Trump Plants the Kiss of Death on Youngkin’s Campaign: ‘We Get Along Very Well Together’

The upcoming election for the governor of Virginia is expected to be an extremely close race. Democrat Terry McAuliffe had been the favorite for most of the year. But the polls have tightened considerably in the weeks leading up to election day. And one of the most peculiar aspects of this race is the hands-off relationship between the Republican candidate, Glenn Youngkin, and Donald Trump.

Donald Trump

Trump, of course, endorsed Youngkin. But Youngkin has been reluctant to acknowledge that endorsement. He has even refused to participate in any joint campaign appearances with Trump. And for good reason. Trump is not a popular figure in Virginia. The association would likely harm Youngkin’s chances of winning. So despite having run on policies that mirror those of Trump’s, Youngkin has steadfastly distanced himself from the disgraced ex-president.

Unfortunately for Youngkin, Trump isn’t the least bit reluctant to shower his unwanted praise on Youngkin. In addition to his “complete and total” endorsement, Trump is holding a tele-rally for the candidate that Youngkin has announced he won’t attend. Undeterred, Trump posted a tweet (via his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill) that lauded Youngkin and the close affinity they have for one another. And, yes, that was Youngkin you heard groaning as he smacked his forehead. Trump wrote that…

“The Fake News media, together with some of the perverts doing ads ad nauseam on primarily Fox (Fox shouldn’t take those ads!), are trying to create an impression that Glenn Youngkin and I are at odds and don’t like each other. Importantly, this is not true, we get along very well together and strongly believe in many of the same policies. Especially when it comes to the important subject of education.”

Trump’s childish whining about “perverts doing ads” refers to a recent ad campaign by The Lincoln Project that highlighted the fact that Youngkin was snubbing Trump. He previously took Fox news to task for having the gall of running the “horrible” ad. In Trump’s warped mind Fox should be forbidden to accept any advertising that isn’t unflinchingly adoring of Trump.

Trump also complained that the media was trying to come between the two sweetheart pols. Actually, it is only Youngkin who is seeking to avoid his BFF. Trump is drawing ever closer with his declaration that their policies are “strongly” aligned. But Trump wasn’t through. He continued…

“The reason the Fake News and perverts are working over time is to try and convince people that we do not like each other, and therefore, my great and unprecedented Make America Great Again base will not show up to vote. Also, I am not a believer in the integrity of Virginia’s elections, lots of bad things went on, and are going on. The way you beat it is to flood the system and get out and vote.”

You have to admire how Trump is able to contradict himself in mid-paragraph. First he complains about the media trying to convince his cult followers not to vote. But then in the very next sentence he essentially tells them why they shouldn’t. This isn’t new with Trump. He frequently warns his devotees that elections are rigged, which implies that it won’t do any good to bother to vote. But then he thinks he’s covering for himself by telling them vote anyway, even in an allegedly rigged election. You can forgive them if they seem to be somewhat confused.

Trump concludes with his customary baseless and infantile insults, saying that “McAuliffe is a low-life politician who lies, cheats, and steals.” That’s textbook projection as it describes Trump to a tee.

Trump is walking a fine in this tweet. He wants to take the credit if Youngkin wins. But he wants to deflect the blame if he loses. With this tactic Trump can claim that a loss was the result of either the rigged election or Youngkin’s failure to fully embrace him. And Trump is obsessively concerned with his endorsement scorecard. He was just on Fox News lying about having lost only two races for candidates that he endorsed. The actual number of losses is 78, just in the last two election cycles. But then, what else would you expect from the most well documented pathological liar in history?

Fox News Whacko Warning to America: ‘You’re Gonna End Up with Mom and Pop at Gitmo’

As the political landscape in America becomes ever more mired in the hatred and division of Donald Trump’s demagoguery, Fox News is creeping ever farther out onto the limb of ludicrous lies and malicious mania. This week for instance, Fox’s Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson, is debuting his crocumentary that glorifies the January 6th insurrection as an act of patriotism.

Fox News, Titanic

On Monday morning Fox News took another step into the bizarro world beyond. Host Harris Faulkner interviewed Arizona’s Republican Attorney General and Senate candidate, Mark Brnovich. The subject was the completely manufactured controversy over school curriculum and the hostilities of right-wing agitators at school board meetings.

Brnovich sought to present some well coordinated disinformation about efforts by the Department of Justice to respond to the threats of violence aimed at school board members and teachers made by many of the wingnut attendees of these meetings. Attorney General Merrick Garland specifically directed his initiative to those who were overtly intimidating and violating the law. But the Fox News narrative twisted it into something else entirely, falsely alleging that it infringed on free speech. Which led to this exchange between Faulkner and Brnovich:

Brnovich: Joe Biden and Merrick Garland essentially want to weaponize, or continue to weaponize the Department of Justice. And just because parents are exercising their constitutional rights to speak out against critical race theory, or even vaccine mandates, does not make them domestic terrorists. And if we allow the Biden administration to continue this, god forbid, you’re gonna end up with mom and pop at Gitmo. Think about how outrageous that is.
Faulkner: That is outrageous. Could that really happen?
Brnovich: We are living in a time where we all need to make sure that we are protecting our constitutional rights on every single level. From the local school board level, to state, and especially on the federal level.
Faulkner: That’s interesting, because you say one leads to the other. That sounds like a slippery slope, which is how you got there.

“Mom and pop at Gitmo?” Really? Brnovich appears to be suffering from an acute case of delusional paranoia. This is a remark that is solely intended to stir irrational fears in the minds of Fox’s already terrified viewers. Garland was not calling parents who were expressing their views “domestic terrorists.” He was addressing only those who actually engaged in acts of violence and intimidation. Brnovich knows that. And so does Faulkner, whose servile response was to agree with Brnovich and ask incredulously if incarcerating innocent parents at Guantanamo Bay could really happen. They know this is pure bullpucky because Garland said in plain terms that he was addressing…

“…a disturbing spike in harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence against school administrators, board members, teachers, and staff who participate in the vital work of running our nation’s public schools. […] The obligation of the Justice Department is to protect the American people against violence and threats of violence and that particularly includes public officials.”

These are the depths to which Fox News is sinking. They have no coherent case to make for their ultra-conservative agenda, so they are winging it with preposterous allegations of shipping parents off to island prisons. What’s more, they can’t rely on Trump anymore since he’s out of office and exiled from social media. Plus, he spends more time attacking Fox News than promoting it, as he did last week. These are (hopefully) the last dying breaths of a propaganda machine that is wallowing in desperation.
