Tucker Carlson of Fox News Hurls a Nauseating Trivialization of Rape and Sexual Violence

With the highest rated program on the network, Tucker Carlson has become the undisputed face of Fox News. And it’s a decidedly repugnant face that routinely embraces racism, relentlessly unleashes deranged conspiracy theories, endangers people’s lives with COVID vaccine lies and disinformation, and adoringly cozies up to fascist dictators.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, STFU

Not content to rest on his wretched laurels, Carlson coughed up a new and more noxious commentary on his nightly hate-fest. The subject was Donald Trump’s deadly insurrection at the Capitol on January 6th. But Carlson found an angle that only someone with his inbred psychoses could muster (video below). He began by disparaging Democratic representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez with a nickname intended to belittle her:

“Occasionally ‘Sandy’ Cortez tells us about her ‘lived experience’ on January 6th. during a recent special on CNN, Sandy Cortez – does she ever stop talking about herself by they way? – She explained she wasn’t just afraid of being murdered by Ashli Babbitt, she also was worried about being raped.”

Naturally, Carlson is lying about what worried Ocasio-Cortez. She wasn’t concerned about being assaulted and raped by Ashli Babbitt (the right’s newly minted martyr who was actually a domestic terrorist bent on overthrowing the government). It was the rioters sent by Trump who had invaded the Capitol that worried the congresswoman. Those are the same rioters who Carlson has characterized as as peaceful protesters (just like Trump did), but whose purposeful hostilities resulted in the deaths of at least three police officers and injuries to more than 140 others. Carlson then played a video of Ocasio-Cortez from a CNN interview:

Ocasio-Cortez: There’s a lot of sexualizing of that violence. And I didn’t think that I was just going to be killed. I thought other things were going to happen to me as well.
Dana Bash: So it sounds like what you are telling me right now is that you didn’t only think that you were going to die. You thought you were going to be raped.
Ocasio-Cortez: Yeah. Yeah, I thought I was.

Carlson’s reaction to this entirely rational and gut-wrenching account of a horrifying ordeal was callously insensitive to the painfully realities that women often face. He literally laughed at Ocasio-Cortez’s traumatic experience:

“Sexualizing? Get a therapist, honey. This is crazy. These people were mad because they thought the election wasn’t fair. Now, you may disagree with that, but it wasn’t about you, surprise, surprise! [in a mocking voice] ‘Sexualize the violence, I thought I was gonna be raped by Ashli Babbitt!'”

“Honey?” While violence of the sort that Carlson endorses is never the answer, someday someone is gonna slap that arrogant smirk off of his face. And what’s “crazy” is Carlson’s ceaseless efforts to portray the marauding insurrectionists as merely “mad” about their delusional view that the election was “stolen” from Dear Leader Trump. Not only does Carlson celebrate the rioters as “patriots,” the chyron on screen through much of this segment read “The Left is Treating Dissidents Like Terrorists.” Talk about a reversal of reality.

To anyone who has seen Carlson’s show over the years, his vile misogyny is well known. But for him to express it in this way so brazenly is evidence that he’s only getting bolder and less inhibited in his determination to offend. And Fox News is totally on board with this media malignancy. To date they have never uttered a single objection to outbursts like these. Which makes the network, and its producers and executives, as culpable for Carlson’s heinous rhetoric as Carlson is himself.

On Fox News Tucker Carlson Drops His Sickest White Supremacy Conspiracy Theory Yet

The past few months have seen Tucker Carlson of Fox News deliver an eclectic array of noxious commentaries. The variety and extremism of his tirades seem more like the rantings of the schizophrenic on the street corner yelling at passing cars than the host of a program on an alleged “news” network. Among the heinous harangues are Carlson’s paranoid claims that the NSA is spying on him, his adoring embrace of foreign fascists, his bizarre accusation that the FBI orchestrated Trump’s January 6th insurrection, and his twisted belief that public health experts are hiding the “fact” that vaccines don’t work.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Klan

On Wednesday morning Carlson visited with the “Curvy Couch” potatoes of Fox and Friends to one up himself on the crazy scale. It didn’t take long for him achieve that goal. The topic of the discussion was immigration, which on Fox News means hateful presentations of invading hordes of brown people intent on committing senseless acts of murder and rape for cheap thrills. And for Carlson it also offers another opportunity to peddle the overtly racist “White Replacement Theory” that he picked up from his study of 20th century Nazis. He vented viciously to his Fox friends that…

“What’s happening at the border is not a crisis. A crisis is a flood in Bangladesh. It’s an act of god. This is an intentional act. This is the administration bringing felons, violent criminals, into our country on purpose. Why would you do something like that? Only to destroy it. There’s no other explanation for this. It’s not an act of compassion. It’s an act of hostility against the United States in order to change it forever. I think this is the greatest scandal of my lifetime, what’s happening on the border right now.”

So Carlson wants us to believe that he thinks Democrats are intentionally importing violent felons for the sole purpose of destroying America. He doesn’t bother to explain why Democrats would want to do that, or how it would benefit them. It’s just his opinion that they are the equivalent of comic book super villains who have no motive other than laying waste to civilization to prove that they can. That’s the sort of small-brain thesis that a seven year old would be embarrassed to claim.

For the record, Carlson doesn’t have a shred of evidence to support any of his rancid rhetoric. There are no caravans of migrating felons marching northward. But he is parroting the psychotic ramblings of Donald Trump who has repeatedly and baselessly charged that “Other countries are emptying their jails into our country.”

After getting an “Absolutely!” affirmation from co-host Steve Doocy, Carlson went on to reveal what he thinks the end game is for the evil Democrats. “The strategy,” Carlson snarls, “is to change the demographics of the country.” That’s the heart of the “White Replacement Theory” that he has been hawking on his program for months. His belief is that Democrats will gain an electoral advantage through this, saying that “Democrats are bringing them here purely to vote for them.” Carlson seems to think that these imaginary migrant felons get immediate citizenship and voting rights as soon as they cross the border. And of course, they will all register and vote as Democrats.

In case anyone missed the main point Carlson was trying to make, he conveniently spelled it out for us, warning that “we should not be bullied into silence as they take OUR country away.” The emphasis on “OUR” was entirely Carlson’s. It was his not-so-subtle nod to the white-wingers like himself who he believes are the rightful masters of America. And while it’s disgusting enough that Carlson would hold that opinion, it’s downright nauseating that he would shamelessly say it out loud on national television. But then again, this is Fox News.

Fox News Flagrantly Lies About an NSA Probe Into Alleged Surveillance of Tucker Carlson

The continuing saga of Tucker Carlson’s Adventures in Spying and Lying has just dropped its latest episode. In the the previous episode Carlson accused the National Security Agency of “monitoring our electronic communications and is planning to leak them in an attempt to take this show off the air.” Right. Because that’s something that the NSA would devote its scarce time and resources to, rather than the international matters to which its jurisdiction is limited.

Fox News. Tucker Carlson

Carlson’s source for this bombshell revelation was an anonymous “whistleblower” who provided no evidence nor explanation for why the NSA would be interested in Carlson. From the outset the NSA denied that Carlson had ever “been an intelligence target of the Agency and the NSA never had any plans to try to take his program off the air.”

Shortly after Carlson’s initial disclosure of the alleged plot, he declared victory when an NSA review concluded that there was no evidence supporting his claim, but that his name might have been “picked up in third-party communications and his identity was unmasked.” Which is not at all what he originally said. It would not be surprising if foreign operatives mentioned Carlson, considering his popularity with totalitarian dictators. But that is not the same as being a target of an investigation with the purpose of getting his show canceled.

The new wrinkle in this melodrama is that the NSA’s inspector General is reportedly looking into the matter. According to CBS News

“Robert Storch, the agency’s inspector general, said his office has begun ‘examining NSA’s compliance with applicable legal authorities and Agency policies and procedures regarding collection, analysis, reporting, and dissemination activities, including unmasking procedures, and whether any such actions were based upon improper considerations.’

“While Storch did not explicitly name Carlson, the official familiar with the matter confirmed the host’s allegations were the focus of the review.”

This is a foreseeable and appropriate review under the circumstances. There is nothing especially alarming about it. Agencies like this are expected to keep close tabs on their operations and to respond to questions as they arise. However, Fox News has jumped to the most extreme conclusions in a statement praising the agency for things it isn’t doing:

“We are gratified to learn the NSA’s egregious surveillance of Tucker Carlson will now be independently investigated, As we have said, for the NSA to unmask Tucker Carlson or any journalist attempting to secure a newsworthy interview is entirely unacceptable and raises serious questions about their activities as well as their original denial, which was wildly misleading.”

There’s so much wrong with this statement that it requires a deeper examination. First of all, this is not an investigation of “the NSA’s egregious surveillance of Tucker Carlson.” The NSA has not found any evidence of “egregious” activity or any “surveillance” of Carlson at all. Secondly, contrary to Fox’s assertion, there is no evidence that Carlson was unmasked. In fact, the first and only disclosure of his name came from Carlson himself when he first reported his false version of the story on his program.

Finally, it is downright hysterical that Fox News would refer to Carlson as a “journalist.” This is the same guy that Fox’s lawyers argued in court – successfully – could not be guilty of defamation because no reasonable person would believe anything he says. And since there has been no proof provided regarding the purpose of any tangential appearance of Carlson’s name in an NSA report, there is no way to assume that it involved a “newsworthy interview.”

The statement by Fox News was almost entirely comprised of flagrant falsehoods. So it’s ironic that Fox is accusing the NSA of being “wildly misleading”? The truth is that Fox News is doing just what they were created to do: Tell lies about anything and everything in order to advance their ultra-rightist agenda. And this sensationalized reaction to the NSA’s routine review process just affirms that Fox News isn’t really news at all.

CNN’s Jim Acosta Fractures Fox News Fascist Fanboy and Trump-Fluffer, Tucker Carlson

This past week Fox News Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson, made a pilgrimage to Hungary to curtsy obediently before its self-proclaimed dictator, Viktor Orban. Carlson displayed his sickly adoration as he performed PR duties for Orban’s oppressive regime. It was a shameful exercise in subservience to a notorious totalitarian strongman.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Dictator

On Saturday, CNN’s Jim Acosta reported on Carlson’s trek to the totalitarian dystopia with some poignant clips of Carlson’s commentaries while he was there. Acosta and his guests. Ruth Ben-Ghiat and Oliver Darcy, had some cogent insights, but it was Carlson’s own words that tell the story of his noxious anti-democratic and even anti-American obsessions. The entire video clip of the segment is posted below, but what follows are Carlson’s chilling remarks and pro fascist views.

Acosta introduced the first clip saying that “The Soviet Union used to use gullible foreigners to spread their propaganda, but this seems different. Tucker knows exactly what he’s doing.” And Carlson said that…

“if you care about western civilization and democracy and family, and the ferocious assault on all three of those things by the leaders of our global institutions, you should know what is happening here right now. In the face of great international pressure – they called him all kinds of names, the EU called what he was doing illegal – but he did it anyway. He built a wall. We said to a Hungarian minister who was standing there, ‘It’s hard to believe that that’s your policy. When you come here illegally you’re just escorted out politely?’ And he said quote, ‘We’re a serious country.’ How embarrassing to be an American in a conversation like that.”

Darcy pointed out how outraged Carlson and the rest of right-wing America would be if Michelle Obama, for instance, had gone abroad and told an authoritarian dictator that she was embarrassed to be an American. But Carlson has no problem exhibiting his shame. Nor does he mind portraying Hungary as “democratic,” despite the fact that Orban has effectively assumed total control for life. Acosta then introduces another clip of Carlson praising the state controlled media of Hungary…

“Let’s say you lived in a big American city and you decided to loudly and publicly attack Joe Biden’s policies. His policies on immigration or COVID or transgender athletes. If you kept talking like that you would likely be silenced by Joe Biden’s allies in Silicon Valley. If you kept it up you might very well have to hire armed body guards. That’s common in the U.S. Ask around. But it’s unknown in Hungary. Opposition leaders here don’t worry that they will be hurt for their opinions.”

WTF? Carlson is actually attacking Joe Biden’s policies in these clips. And his confederates on Fox News do so every hour of every day. Not only have they not been silenced, they are the number one rated cable news network. As for the need for Hungarian critics to hire body guards, Carlson is partly correct. There aren’t any government critics who need to do that. But only because there aren’t any government critics allowed. As Ben-Ghiat noted, over 500 media media outlets “donated” their assets to a foundation run by Orban’s allies. There could never be a Fox News taking shots at the government the way they do in the U.S. Carlson is deliberately covering that up. But then he goes off on this fantasy rant…

“‘Oh, but he’s a fascist,’ scream people who are happy to imprison non-violent political protesters in Washington. ‘Oh, there’s no press freedom,’ say people who support the overwhelming censorship in the American media. ‘He’s bad!’ They haven’t accused him rigging elections yet. Maybe that’s too much even for them.”

What Carlson is referring to as political prisoners are the insurrectionists who attacked Congress on January 6th. He regards them as non-violent, despite their having broken through doors and windows, injured more than 100 police officers, and chanted their intentions to kill Nancy Pelosi and hang Mike Pence.

Furthermore, you have to wonder what Carlson is talking about when he says that there is “overwhelming censorship in the American media.” If that were true, he wouldn’t be able to say it on a highly viewed television network. Additionally, Carlson mocks those who point out that Hungary does not have a free press. He might want to refer to the study by Reporters Without Borders as reported by Voice of America

“A press watchdog group, Reporters Without Borders, named 37 world leaders Monday as media ‘predators’ who ‘crack down massively’ on press freedom, including for the first time a Western European leader, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. […] The watchdog group said oligarchs close to Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party controls more than 80% of the media in the country, while private media is discriminated against and characterized as publishing ‘fake news.'”

Acosta closed by saying of Carlson’s Hungarian PR junket that “It’s very concerning. And I wonder where he’s going next. Maybe to Moscow to do an infomercial for Vladimir Putin. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.” Which pretty much says it all. Except that Tucker Carlson is an unpatriotic, anti-American, traitor to his country and no decent network would keep him on the air. Which explains why he’s on Fox News.

Newt Gingrich Visits Fox News to Peddle the Overtly Racist ‘White Replacement Theory’

Fox News has officially become the White Nationalist Network of America. Their efforts on behalf of blatantly racist philosophies and organizations makes it impossible to deny their close association and aligned goals. No better example exists than the fact that this week Fox’s top rated program host, Tucker Carlson, is in Hungary embracing their abhorrently bigoted and tyrannical Prime Minister, Viktor Orban.

Newt Gingrich, Donald Trump

Back at home, Fox News Senior Trump-fluffer Maria Bartiromo, invited Newt Gingrich to pontificate on his noxious notions of anti-immigrant hatred and xenophobia. Gingrich took the opportunity to wholly embrace the staunchly racist “white replacement theory” that Carlson is so fond of promoting. The theory proposes that Democrats are “importing” Mexicans to “replace” what conservatives regard as “traditional” Americans. Never mind that all Americans are immigrants unless they are descended from the Indigenous population that was here prior to the European invasion.

But from Gingrich’s supremacist perspective, it’s the refugees from Central America who are the invaders. He was asked by Bartiromo about a Wall Street Journal op-ed alleging that President Biden was neglecting illegal immigration. He replied by maligning the refugees, saying that…

“They don’t come all the way across Mexico for the purpose of visiting for two days. They want to be in America. And I think what’s hard for most of us to accept, is that the anti-American left would love to drown traditional classic Americans with as many people as they can who know nothing of American history, nothing of American tradition, nothing of the rule of law.

“I think that – if you go and you look at the radical left, this is their ideal model is to get rid of the rest of us because we believe in George Washington or we believe in the Constitution, and you see this behavior over and over again.”

There’s a lot of loathing stuffed into that commentary. Let’s begin with Gingrich trivializing the reasons for immigrants coming to America. They are fleeing poverty and violence in their own countries. This has nothing to with with vacations or relocating to sunnier climes.

Gingrich’s rant refers to “the anti-American” and “radical left” in order to deflect from the reality that it is ultra-rightists like him who are sullying the proud tradition of American diversity that was built on immigration. Gingrich also uses phrases like “drown traditional classic Americans” to deliberately invoke violence and foment fear.

When Gingrich complains about people who “know nothing of American history, nothing of American tradition, nothing of the rule of law,” he doesn’t realize that he’s talking mostly about “the uneducated” who Donald Trump professes to love, because without them he’d have no one to attend his cult rallies or shower him with blind adulation. After all, no one is more dismissive of American laws than Trump himself.

Finally, Gingrich fires the coup de grâce with his frightening assertion that Democrats are plotting to “get rid of the rest of us.” It’s a statement that is filled with ignorance and intended to incite hostilities by those who are stupid enough to believe any of this malarkey. But that’s the purpose of segments like this on Fox News. They are unabashedly devoted to inciting hatred and division in order to maintain power for white supremacists like Gingrich and Trump.

Fox News Fascinista, Tucker Carlson, Cozies Up to Hungary’s Authoritarian PM Orban

The saga of Fox News senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson, continues to sink lower into the muck with every new day. Apparently it isn’t enough that he has promulgated paranoid delusions that the National Security Agency (NSA) is spying on him? Or he has spread baseless accusations that the FBI orchestrated the January 6th insurrection? Or he has claimed that health authorities know that vaccines don’t work and they aren’t telling you? Or he has of “spewed the overtly racist white replacement theory.”

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Bullshit Factory

This week Carlson is broadcasting his program from Hungary, a country that has been on a rapid path to totalitarianism. Carlson is there to speak at an ultra-rightist conference that advocates a xenophobic agenda and trains young conservatives who will be dispatched throughout the European Union. According to the Daily Beast

“Tucker Carlson will deliver a speech, appropriately titled ‘The World According to Tucker Carlson,’ this coming Saturday at MCC Feszt, a far-right conference in Budapest that is backed by Hungary’s authoritarian prime minister, Viktor Orban.” […]

“Earlier this year, The New York Times reported that Orban granted $1.7 billion—or about one percent of Hungary’s GDP—to Mathias Corvinus Collegium, or MCC, with the aim of training a new generation of conservative elite across Europe.” […]

“According to Open Secrets investigative researcher Anna Massoglia, Hungary paid a D.C. lobbying firm $265,000 in 2019, in part to arrange an interview on Carlson’s Fox News show.”

So Carlson was lobbied at great expense to cozy up to Hungary’s nascent dictator, Orban, and to become a featured speaker at an event that Orban paid for with his government’s funds. That is less surprising when you know that Carlson shares much of the same philosophies with Orban. Media Maters reported how Orban has implemented the same anti-immigrant policies that Carlson regularly promotes on his Fox News program. And the targets of Orban’s hostility and lies are often the same as those that Carlson and Fox News go after:

“Instead of helping the native population to have more children, the Hungarian government, they say, should import a replacement population from the Third World. That’s the George Soros solution. But Hungary’s prime minister, Viktor Orbán, has a different idea. Instead of abandoning Hungary’s young people to the hard-edge libertarianism of Soros and the Clinton Foundation, Orbán has decided to affirmatively help Hungarian families grow.”

What’s more, according to Human Rights Watch, Hungary’s parliament gave Orban rights that allow him to rule “with unlimited power for an indefinite time.” He has the power now to strike down and/or implement laws by decree. And democratic elections have been suspended. And if that isn’t bad enough, Orban was recently discovered to have been using spyware on the media in his country. A man after Trump’s diseased heart.

Under these circumstances, Carlson’s trip to Hungary says a lot about where he stands with regard to the constitutional principles and liberties of the United States. He is fully on board with the sort of tyrannical aspirations of Donald Trump, who idolizes strongman dictators like Orban, Putin, Xi, and Kim.

More evidence of Trump’s efforts to stage a violent coup are uncovered on a seemingly daily basis. He recently claimed for himself the exclusive right to destroy America.” And his crackpot cult followers believe that Trump’s January 6th insurrectionists were “defending freedom.” So naturally Carlson would venture to Hungary to support a like-minded fascist wannabe, and bring those ideas to America, and his Fox News viewers. It’s just the next step toward the white nationalist dystopia he dreams about.

Here’s Proof that Fox News Could Save Thousands of Lives If They Wanted To – They Don’t

The year long determination of Fox News to convince their viewers that COVID-19 isn’t anything to worry about has resulted in the coronavirus officially becoming the Pandemic of Fox News. They are, of course, parroting the purposeful lies of Donald Trump who repeatedly told his cult followers that it was either a hoax, a Democratic plot against him, or a piffling malady that is no more serious than the common flu. And he’s still doing it.

Fox News, Cov-Aid

Never mind that Trump has known from the start how deadly it is. His deliberate dishonesty fueled the aversion of his disciples to the vaccines that he simultaneously tried to take credit for. And Fox News backed him up all the way.

As a result, the cable news network that one watches is one of the best indicators of whether or not the viewer has been vaccinated. The percentage of Fox News viewers who have received the vaccine is 21 points lower than viewers of CNN or MSNBC. Fox’s top program hosts are staunch opponents of vaccinations that they regard as attempts by the government to control the population (by keeping them alive?).

Tucker Carlson tops the list with his frequent anti-vaccine messaging, such as his paranoia drenched claim that vaccines don’t work and “they” aren’t telling you. Likewise, Sean Hannity has sowed vaccine doubts by pretending to support the science, even while insisting that no one should listen to him. Which is actually pretty good advice.

However, if Fox News was interested in the welfare of the American people, they could have a profound impact on mitigating the suffering and fatalities of the pandemic. That impact was demonstrated recently when Tractor Supply posted a sign next to a horse dewormer they sell. The sign reads…

“A number of products we carry, including select dewormers and injectables, contain the anti-parasite active ingredient Ivermectin. Despite media report that Ivermectin could potentially be used to treat people with COVID-19, these products are not safe or approved for human use, and could cause severe personal injury or death.”

Both Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham have promoted the use of Ivermectin based on studies that have been discredit and retracted. Carlson “repeatedly downplayed the effectiveness of COVID vaccines while touting Ivermectin on shows in June and July.” And Ingraham hosted a dubious “expert” whose advocacy of the dewormer only served to further mislead Fox’s viewers and put their health and lives at risk.

So Trump’s MAGA devotees refuse to take recommended vaccines based on the fear mongering and admitted ignorance of Fox News pundits. They say that they’re afraid of what the vaccines might contain (microchips? Fetuses?) and what potential harm they might cause. None of which has been validated. But they will rush out to their local farm supply store to buy and consume a horse dewormer that is known to be toxic to humans?

If nothing else, this proves that Fox News has a frighteningly powerful impact on their viewers and influences what they believe and do. How many other alleged “news” purveyors could get their audience to reject medicine and swallow poison instead? Now imagine if Fox News would tell them to get vaccinated. Imagine if they reported the extraordinarily high efficacy and safety of the vaccines and how reliably they reduced the incidence of severe illness, hospitalization, and death.

The result of Fox News – and Trump for that matter – enthusiastically promoting the benefits of being vaccinated could save tens of thousands of lives. It could prevent further viral variants from developing that have to potential to defeat the protection that the current vaccines provide. And that would save even more lives among the millions who have already been vaccinated.

But in order for that to happen, Fox News would have to care about the welfare of the American people. They have to put people’s health above their own political and financial interests. In other words, don’t hold your breath. Fox News – and Trump – cannot be relied upon to do the responsible and ethical thing when they can exploit people’s suffering to advance their agenda of partisanship and greed. That’s been their mission from their inception, and it isn’t going to change now.

UH-OH: Tucker Carlson’s Biggest Advertiser – MyPillow – Pulls All of its Ads From Fox News

It must be awfully difficult to be Tucker Carlson, The Fox News Senior White Nationalist and Conspiracy Crackpot. It must be painful for him, having his brow perpetually furrowed into an expression of eternal victimhood that facilitates his constant whining.

Fox News. Tucker Carlson

After all, Carlson has had to endure repeated – albeit imaginary – offenses by a government intent on persecuting him. The list of his derangements and hate mongering would get someone who isn’t a wealthy trust fund baby and frozen food heir committed and placed under 24 hour psychiatric observation.

For instance, there is his paranoid delusion that the National Security Agency (NSA) is spying on him? Or his baseless accusation that the FBI orchestrated the January 6th insurrection? Or his claim that health authorities know that vaccines don’t work and they aren’t telling you? Or his overtly racist promulgation of “white replacement theory.” Or his attack on Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair, Gen. Mark Milley, as “stupid” and “a pig.” Or his whining that Rep. Eric Swalwell won’t return his calls? Or how he disgustingly smeared a January 6th Capitol Police hero?

On top of all of that, now Carlson has to contend with the devastating loss of his biggest advertiser. According to Variety

“In a statement late Thursday, Fox News confirmed a report by The Wall Street Journal that Mike Lindell, CEO of MyPillow, had asked for his company’s ads to be taken out of their schedule after the network decided not to run a proposed ad promoting baseless claims of fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

“‘It’s unfortunate Mr. Lindell has chosen to pause his commercial time on Fox News given the level of success he’s experienced in building his brand through advertising on the number one cable news network,’ Fox News said in a statement.”

Lindell, who has problems of his own, is furious at Fox News for refusing to run a commercial for his upcoming “cyber symposium,” a livestreaming event in August that he says will prove that Donald Trump won the 2020 election, and restore him to his throne. Of course, that’s a fantasy that Lindell and other Trump cultists have been harboring for months, despite having zero evidence and a string of 60+ cases being laughed out of court.

Lindell is joining Trump on the anti-Fox bandwagon. Trump became disenchanted with his Ministry of Propaganda when the network failed to be sufficiently worshipful, in his egomaniacal view. And on what appears to be his own “channel” (Lindell TV), he bellows that “I’m pulling all my ads from Fox indefinitely and immediately … Shame on Fox News.”

Carlson’s problems with advertisers began last year after some of his overtly racist ranting that is the hallmark of Carlson’s show, and of Fox News more broadly. At the time several major advertisers ditched him, including T-Mobile, SmileDirectClub, Disney and Papa John’s.

That left Carlson with only some lower-tier advertisers that aren’t as discriminating. They include reverse mortgage lenders, dubious vitamin supplements, personal injury lawyers, and gold coin peddlers. Where this gets sticky for Carlson is that Forbes reported at the time that…

“According to iSpot, Tucker Carlson Tonight’s biggest advertiser is My Pillow, which spent more than $40 million on spots during 2019 and 2020. That is about ten times as high as the show’s next biggest advertiser and more than the next four sponsors’ combined spending.”

With Lindell’s announcement that he’s pulling all of his Fox News advertising, Carlson’s show will become a charitable project for Fox News. It was already probably losing money, but now there is no way that it could be profitable.

While it is still Fox’s highest rated primetime program, it is not immune to cancellation. Bill O’Reilly was dropped after having to shell out millions of dollars to multiple women who accused him of sexual harassment and assault. Lou Dobbs got the axe after the voting software company that Dobbs slandered filed a billion dollar lawsuit against him and Fox News.

Both O’Reilly and Dobbs were already suffering from an exodus of advertisers who couldn’t tolerate their bigotry. And now Carlson finds himself in exactly the same spot. Will Fox News do the right thing and end Carlson’s Nightly Disinformation Hour? Well, Fox isn’t known for being honorable or respectful of journalistic principles. So this could go either way. Stay tuned (but not to Fox News).

Watch Sen. Durbin Scorch the ‘Braying Chorus’ at Fox News for Defaming the Police

Every now and then a political leader expresses thoughts that are so compelling and compassionate that they need no elaboration. And in the wake of the first hearing of the House Select Committee investigating Trump’s January 6th insurrection, Sen. Dick Durbin delivered just such a speech on the floor of the Senate.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham

What follows is a transcript and video of Sen. Durbin’s inspirational condemnation of Fox News cretins Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham:

In an effort to plumb the depths of political meanness and irresponsible, it is just too hard to choose between Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham. First they became our nation’s leading anti-vax quacks making their specious arguments against life-saving COVID-19 vaccines and sowing doubt among their viewers who are literally putting their lives at risk because of lies that these two individuals [and Donald Trump] are spouting.

And now they are creating a braying chorus focused on the police who defended this building on January 6th. Their mockery of the bravery of the Capitol D.C. Police who risked – and some lost – their lives in the January 6th situation in this Capitol building is cowardly and shameful.

It took courage for the police to face the Trump mob. It takes no courage for these Fox talking heads to belittle these officers. It takes no courage to practice their well worn smirks reacting to the bravery in these pleas. It’s hard to imagine reading a press account of what they said yesterday and last night about the hearing that took place, the things that they did.

Ingraham gave the “Best Performance in an Action Role” to Washington Metropolitan Police Officer Michael Fanone, who during the testimony recalled hearing he’d be shot with his own gun. Ingraham said, and I quote, “Well there was certainly a lot of violence that day. But it wasn’t a terrorist attack. It wasn’t 9/11. It wasn’t the worst thing that ever happened to America. It wasn’t an insurrection.”

And then Tucker Carlson responding with a smirk to footage of Fanone telling the hearing he experienced Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Throughout the monologue Carlson piled on to his previous claims about the violence being just quote, “A political protest that got out of hand.”

First the vaccines. Now defaming the police. This is irresponsible from start to finish. I would ask those at Fox network – not exactly my friends and allies in politics – to show common decency and common sense. Common sense when it comes to these vaccines, which we know if more people were vaccinated we wouldn’t be facing this resurgent need for masks and fear of this new variant. And common decency when it comes to the men and women in uniform who risked their lives for this building, this Capitol, this democracy, and this government.

Certainly there’s freedom of speech, but let’s hope that good sense will dominate this discussion over at the Fox network as to whether these two ought to be allowed to continue their rant.

The only problem with Durbin’s eloquent address came at the end when he suggested that Fox News was capable of either common decency or common sense. Neither of those traits have ever been evident on the network devoted to right-wing lies and propaganda, to dividing America, and more recently to Donald Trump and his aspirations of tyranny built on pathological lies and malignant narcissism. Other than that, Durbin was spot on.

The Pandemic of the Unvaccinated? No! It’s the Pandemic of the Fox News Infected

The past few weeks has seen a disturbing resurgence of the coronavirus. After appearing to have come under control due to the Biden administration’s success in making the vaccines widely available, the number of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths, are once again on the rise. And the cause of that is plainly attributable to the holdouts who are either reluctant or opposed to getting vaccinated.

Fox News, Covid

The data is clear that the increased viral activity is a preventable phenomenon that the CDC Director, Rochelle Walensky, has tagged as the pandemic of the unvaccinated.” Drilling deeper into the data reveals that the new COVID-19 hot zones are predominantly located in red states or Republican dominated areas.

However, even that doesn’t tell the whole story. The vaccine-averse are digging in even as the Delta variant, the most contagious yet, has become dominant. According to research conducted by an Axios/Ipsos tracking poll, Fox News viewers are significantly trailing viewers of other media in getting vaccinated:

“According to the combined sample, 62% of adults who use Fox News as their main news source have received at least one dose of the vaccine. That’s not nothing, but it’s still relatively low.” […]

“The people who get their news from CNN or MSNBC, for example, had a vaccination rate of 83% in the same polling. Likewise, 79% of adults who rely on network news have had at least one dose of a vaccine. About three-quarters (74%) who get their news from public television or radio were at least partially vaccinated.”

So the percentage of Fox News viewers that have been vaccinated is 21 points lower than viewers of CNN or MSNBC, and 17 points lower than those who get their news from the broadcast networks. While that is a troubling set of statistics, it isn’t especially surprising. After all, Fox News has been telling their audience for months that COVID is either a hoax or a flu. Even worse, Fox has warned that the vaccines have dangerous, even deadly side effects, or that they contain microchips or are otherwise key to a clandestine plot to control the population.

Fox fear monger Tucker Carlson recently warned his viewers that vaccines don’t work and “they” aren’t telling you. Just this week Fox’s Sean Hannity appeared to briefly concede that the vaccine was beneficial and should be taken. But the following day he reversed himself and told his audience not take his advice anyway because he’s not a doctor. As for Donald Trump, he gave his disciples at his latest cult rally a decidedly mixed message:

“How about the vaccine? I came up with the vaccine. They said it would take three to five years. Gonna save the world. I recommend you take it, but I also believe in your freedoms 100%.”

First of all, Trump asserting that “I came up with the vaccine.” may be one of the most thoroughly demented things he’s said since his proposal to inject Clorox as a virus treatment. More to the point, though, Trump isn’t going to persuade his flock to get the shot if he immediately qualifies his rather weak recommendation with a suggestion that their “freedoms” rest on not getting it.

The result of this leads to the conclusion that a “pandemic of the unvaccinated” is not the best description of our current state of affairs. This is more accurately described as a “pandemic of the Fox News infected.” Whether or not someone watches Fox News may be the best indicator of their vaccination status, or their likelihood of getting vaccinated in the future. Consequently, for the safety of everyone else, it might be best to avoid any contact with Fox News viewers. They are the ones most likely to be infected and transmitting the virus. Stay safe America.

UPDATE: It’s getting much worse. The red/blue vaccination divide was about two points in April. Now it’s six times greater:
