Trump’s Press Secretary Stumped When Asked If It’s Safe to Fly – By Peter Doocy of Fox News

Within hours of the news that an American Airlines jet had collided with a military Blackhawk helicopter and crashed, killing everyone aboard both aircraft, Donald Trump had already drawn his conclusions as to the cause. He surmised that the cause of the tragedy was hiring practices that promoted diversity, equity, and Inclusion (DEI). He followed that up by blaming Presidents Obama and Biden.

Never mind that Trump had no evidence whatsoever that his racist conclusions had any merit, or even a remote relationship with reality. He neglected expressions of concern or condolences in order to advance his agenda of noxious bigotry, and to exploit the tragedy to attack his political foes. And of course, that narrative was faithfully supported by his obedient politburo chief, Karoline Leavitt, who has been busy clearing press credentials for devoted MAGA cultists.

On Friday morning, the White House press briefing took a bizarre turn when Peter Doocy of Fox News rose to ask Leavitt a question about the safety of air travel in America. He made an uncharacteristically insightful point about the consequences of Trump’s drumbeating of disparagement toward employees in the aviation sector that he regards as being too dark skinned, feminine, or otherwise representative of the diversity of the nation.

Doocy: If president Trump is telling us that air traffic control towers are staffed with unqualified controllers, DEI hires who never should have been brought on, then it’s not safe to fly commercially, is it?
Leavitt: The president was asked and answered this yesterday, and he believes that it is still indeed safe and Americans should feel safe traveling our skies. With that said, two things can be true at the same time. And we certainly have seen the deterioration of federal hiring standards at the Federal Aviation Administration. And the president wants to increase those standards.

Doocy’s question staggered Leavitt. It makes sense to reason that aviation safety is at risk if the people responsible for it are incompetent and/or unqualified, as Trump insists. And anyone who accepts Trump’s assessment should keep their feet firmly planted on the ground, rather than put their lives in the hands of freeloaders who shouldn’t have been hired. Right?

Well, according to Leavitt, the answer is more complex. She argues that “two things can be true at the same time.” In her view, the pilots, air traffic controllers, and other aviation staff can be inferior clods who, nevertheless, are still perfectly able to insure the safety of American travelers. Except for the times that they cause jetliners to crash into the Potomac. Leavitt elaborated on her duplicity theory saying that…

“When you’re flying with your loved ones, do you pray that your airplane lands safely and gets you to your destination or do you pray that the pilot has a certain skin color? I think we all know the answer.”

The choices Leavitt offers here are absurd in the extreme. Obviously every air passenger wants to land safely. But nobody “prays” that “the pilot has a certain skin color.” Well, except for racist Trump cultists and MAGA disciples who will only approve of white pilots. For instance, Trump flunky Charlie Kirk actually said “I’m sorry. If I see a Black pilot, I’m going to be like, ‘Boy, I hope he’s qualified.'”

Trump’s obsession with casting blame on Blacks, women, Democrats, and others for whom he has a visceral, inbred hatred, is emblematic of his rancid divisiveness. And in the furtherance of his prejudices, he couldn’t care less about whether or not what he’s saying about DEI true. And as PolitiFact affirms, it isn’t. But that won’t stop him. He won’t stop lying because he’s pathologically incapable of it. What’s more, he knows that his cult followers not only accept it, they love it.

The last two names on that list were just added by Trump this week. In his announcement for Bruce, Trump cited as her “qualifications” that she was a political analyst who “understood the power and importance of ‘MAGA’ early on,” and “saw the lies and fraud of the Radical Left.” Which are not exactly the sort of skills sought for a competent and fair person to communicate with the press.

Trump’s announcement for Ortagus was even more outlandish. It read more like a reprimand and a warning for a poorly performing employee. He said that “Early on Morgan fought me for three years, but hopefully has learned her lesson. These things usually don’t work out.” Oh great. So let’s put her in charge of something inconsequential, like Middle East Peace operations.

In neither of Trump’s announcements did he bother to mention that both of these nominees were contributors on Fox News. Either he’s deliberately hiding that information, or he regards it as unfavorable. He does, after all, have an ongoing love/hate relationship with Fox News.

In addition to these announcements on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, Trump responded to to the news that he will sentenced next week for his 34 felony convictions in the New York “Hush Money” case. Trump posted four unbearably long, unreadable, and lie-riddled rants whining about the whole of America’s justice system, and specifically President Biden, and the judges, prosecutors, and victims involved in his felonious crime sprees. They are too interminably long and deranged to make anyone else suffer through, but here are a few annotated excerpts…

Trump: “Every Legal Scholar and Pundit…have unequivocally stated that the Manhattan D.A.’s Witch Hunt is a nonexistent case.”
Note: When Trump refers to “Every Legal Scholar” he means only those who suck up to him.

Trump: “Justice Merchan, who is a radical partisan, just issued another order that is knowingly unlawful, goes against our Constitution and, if allowed to stand, would be the end of the Presidency as we know it.”
Note: Trump being reelected with 34 felonies is “the end of the Presidency as we know it.”

Trump: “I never falsified business records. It is a fake, made up charge by a corrupt judge who is just doing the work of the Biden/Harris Injustice Department, an attack on their political opponent, ME!”
Note: The charges against Trump were not made up by the judge or Biden. They were established by a Grand Jury made up of citizens who examined the voluminous evidence against him. Then a trial jury found him guilty unanimously on all 34 counts.

Trump: “There has never been a President who was so evilly and illegally treated as I.”
Note: There has never been a president who has committed more crimes than Trump. And nothing about his prosecution was evil or illegal.

Rest assured that the Fox News faction in Trump’s administration will continue act as propagandists and apologists for Trump and his nefarious, anti-American agenda. In other words, they will continue to do exactly the same things that they’ve been doing for years on Fox News. Except now taxpayers will be footing the bill.

Leading their agenda for the Trump regime is an effort to purge the White House press corps of any and all reputable journalists and others who are not fully indoctrinated Trump cultists. They are determined to banish reporters who might cause trouble by actually reporting the truth about Trump and his administration’s corruption and malfeasance. And they aren’t shy about their nefarious intentions…

Among those seeking to Trump-itize the White House press corps is long-time Trump flunky, Hugh Hewitt. On a recent episode of his podcast, Hewitt floated this preposterous suggestion that is staunchly aligned with the approach to the press that is favored by the likes of Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un…

“With the exception of Peter Doocy, I would ban everyone from the White House press room who has been there for the past four years because they are obviously of no use to the country. They didn’t tell us the number one thing, which is that he’s not competent. Why in the world would Trump let them in? […] ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, Washington Post, New York Times, those five brands are broken beyond broken after this expose. Is there any way you could trust anything that they say?

REALLY? Hewitt thinks that only the most partisan hack in the press room, Peter Doocy of Fox News, should remain there, and everyone else be cast out? That would make for a pretty dull daily press briefing with only Doocy asking questions of Trump’s predictably dishonest press secretary, Karoline Leavitt.

Although they could fill the empty seats with Trump-approved asses such as Hewitt, Joe Rogan, Steve Bannon, Tucker Carlson, Laura Loomer, Alex Jones, etc. That way they would be assured of fielding only friendly questions, to which they would still provide non-answers that were mostly lies and smears.

What’s more, Hewitt is so appalled by the media that he can’t understand how anyone “could trust anything that they say.” So his solution is to limit the media outlets to the one that was found to have lied so horribly that they were forced to pay a settlement of nearly a billion dollars.

The specific complaint that triggered Hewitt’s rant was his view that the media – except for Doocy – didn’t properly cover what he believes was President Biden’s diminished mental capacity. But even if you give him a pass on that brazenly biased perspective, he’s leaving out something that would be just as relevant. And that’s the obviously diminished mental capacity of Trump. Here’s how the Daily Show presented it by using Fox News attacks on Biden, but showing Trump video instead…

These cretins don’t have any appreciation for the traditional purpose of the Press Room, which is to provide journalists with access to the president and his staff in order to inform the public, not to become a partisan propaganda mill where only those who have sworn allegiance to Trump can participate. But that’s precisely what Hewitt wants. And it’s also what the Trump media team want. The only problem they face is that it isn’t what the American people want. But if they pursue this strategy, they will find out soon enough.

Other job criteria, such as a total lack of relevant experience, and a commitment to dismantling whatever department you’re assigned to manage, are important, but have room for a small measure of flexibility. The result is that Trump’s Cabinet is going to be populated by incompetent know-nothings, who worship Dear Leader, and advance the interests of right-wing extremists and elitists.

An outstanding demonstration of this perverse tilt of the political landscape occurred Thursday on Fox News. Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, visited the MAGA Ministry of Propaganda where she offered a uniquely demented opinion about the state of the media…

“If you talk to reporters off the record they will tell you they are excited that Trump will be back in the Oval Office because they know how much access they had to him and his press secretaries in his first term.”

WHUT? First of all, the likelihood that Leavitt got off the record expressions of “excitement” from reporters gushing over the prospect of Trump’s return is about as realistic as Trump’s hysterical claims that “big, strong. men with tears in their eyes” are constantly flocking to him to express their undying gratitude and devotion.

Furthermore, Leavitt’s assertion that reporters recalled Trump’s previous playacting as president as a time when they had extraordinary access to him and his press office is laughable. In fact, Trump had virtually discontinued the routine daily press briefings that were held by the press secretaries of all other modern day presidents. There times when Trump’s White House didn’t have a press briefing for months on end. And when he addressed reporters it was often impromptu gaggles next to a waiting helicopter, where he hurled lies and insults without actually answering any questions.

What’s more, there are some disturbing reasons why reporters are actually worried about the next Trump term. Throughout his campaign this year he has made overt threats aimed at the media that he regularly refers to in Stalinist terms as “the enemy of the people.” He has proposed replacing credible journalists in the White House Press Room with screwballs, conspiracy crackpots, and fawning sycophants and MAGA trolls, like Joe Rogan and Tucker Carlson.

Even worse, Trump’s nominee to be Director of the FBI, Kash Patel, recently threatened the press, saying that “We’re going to come after the people in the media who lied about American citizens who helped Joe Biden rig presidential elections. We’re going to come after you.”

You really have to wonder who the reporters are that Leavitt says “are excited that Trump will be back in the Oval Office”? The only plausible people who would say that are folks like Steve Bannon, or Megyn Kelly, or maybe the alleged drug-addled sex trafficker, Matt Gaetz, who was recently dumped as Trump’s nominee to be Attorney General, but who is now scheduled to host a primetime show on the piddling, Trump-fluffing, One America News.

So it doesn’t seem like the press corps is really all that excited by Trump’s return. More likely, they are nervous and preparing for a hostile relationship with the White House for the next four years. However, if nothing else, Leavitt is doing precisely the sort of job that Trump wants her to do. And she is proving her bona fides as Trump-worthy disseminator of dishonesty and lies.

Matt Gaetz

Leading the pack of failed nominees was Trump’s first choice for Attorney General, former representative Matt Gaetz. He withdrew himself from consideration after it is was clear that he could not get enough votes from his fellow MAGA Republicans to be confirmed. Even that crowd briefly exhibited a measure of integrity when they were faced with approving someone who was credibly accused of sex trafficking a minor and indulging in illicit drug use. And he isn’t the only one with such a repulsive resume…

After bombing out as a potential AG, Gaetz promised that he was “still gonna be in the fight, but its gonna be from a new perch.” And as it turns out, he is indeed going to be out on a limb next year with the premiere of his new primetime TV program on the Trump-fluffing One America News (OAN) network. CNN made the announcement of Gaetz’s new hosting gig Tuesday morning. OAN confirmed it shortly after saying that…

“One America News Network, (‘OAN’) announced today that powerhouse Matt Gaetz will be joining OAN’s prime-time lineup in January. […] Matt is a remarkable talent and a principled leader. His insider access to America’s top policymakers and unwavering dedication to America-first values will bring unparalleled insight and exclusive content to OAN viewers.”

That’s an especially PR-heavy press release. Gaetz can hardly be described as a “powerhouse,” a “talent,” or a “principled leader,” by anyone who is able to actually define those words. And his alleged “access to America’s top policymakers” is notably suspect since almost all of his former congressional colleagues openly hate his guts.

Landing at OAN has to be something of a disappointment for Gaetz. He was obviously rejected by Fox News and Newsmax, both of which he has previously lobbied for a job. Consequently, this should raise the profile of OAN as the network that employs sex traffickers who committed statutory rape and bragged about using illegal drugs. And that profile boost will only be enhanced if the House Ethics Committee’s probe into the allegations against Gaetz are ever officially released or leaked.

OAN’s reputation as a Trump propaganda disseminator has been affirmed by their settlement of a defamation lawsuit brought by election workers and Smartmatic Voting Systems following the network’s deliberately dishonest 2020 election coverage.

Furthermore, there has been an incestuous relationship between the network and Trump World. For instance, Natalie Harp, a current starstruck Trump flunky, is a former OAN host who was known for writing fawning letters to Trump, saying such adoring thinks as “You are all that matters to me.” And Christina Bobb is a former OAN correspondent and an attorney who worked Trump. She was the member of Trump’s legal team who signed off on the confirmation to the FBI that Trump had returned all of the classified documents that he had stolen and stored at Mar-a-Lago. Which, of course, was not true.

For his part, Gaetz is bursting with pride for his new job. Or at least that’s what he says. But it’s hard to believe that he’s all that excited about being hired by D-List network with a miniscule audience after he resigned his seat in congress and was trashed as the AG nominee by his BFF Trump.

With the emergence of Donald Trump and the cult that has arisen around him, Fox News has managed to do what many may have thought impossible. They got even worse. Their devotional embrace of Trump has exceeded the adulation of history’s most notorious cult leaders. Fox News has helped Trump to prove that he was right when he said that he could “shoot someone on 5th Avenue” without losing any support. And as a result of Fox’s reverential propaganda, Trump’s clan regards him as their only source of truth.

This week Fox News has outdone itself. On Thursday their Fox Nation streaming network aired an awards ceremony wherein Trump was declared the “Patriot of the Year.” To be clear, that’s a choice that is honoring a convicted felon, adjudicated rapist, draft dodger, who incited a coup, and said he would terminate the Constitution, as the most patriotic person in America. You have to wonder who the runner-ups were. Steve Bannon? Vladimir Putin? Hannibal Lector?

This award could be in appreciation of Trump’s nominees to his still forming administration. At least 14 of them (so far) are Fox News hosts, contributors, or frequent guests. Among these unqualified, morally bankrupt appointments is his embattled nominee for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth.

As if that weren’t enough, Fox News also invited Melania Trump on to chat with the “Curvy Couch” potatoes of Fox and Friends (Hegseth’s old haunt). That segment actually turned out to be their version of a right-wing Home Shopping Network where viewers could purchase grossly overpriced trinkets designed by Melania herself. Who wouldn’t want a $90.00 Christmas tree ornament by the woman who once said “Who gives a f**k about Christmas stuff?”

This combination of Trump getting a made up award by his Fox News disciples, and giving valuable airtime to Melania to cash in on the rubes who watch Fox, is just the beginning of the media supplication to Dear Leader Trump and his attempt to transform the United States into an authoritarian dystopia. And if you think it’s bad now, just wait. Or better yet, don’t wait – RESIST! If there is one thing that Trump has shown us throughout his public life, it’s that he is incompetent and defeatable. LFG!

Trump has been naming the nominees for his White House staff at breakneck speed, without even the least negligible research or background checks to prevent the appointment of corrupt, unqualified, or incompetent candidates for jobs where lives are literally at stake. His primary prerequisites for service appear to be unwavering fealty to Trump and an apprenticeship at Fox News.

After the withdrawal of Matt Gaetz, Trump’s first choice for Attorney General, the nomination of Pete Hegseth to be Secretary of Defense is in danger of falling apart. Hegseth has been accused of innumerable incidents of public intoxication, financial mismanagement of veterans charities, and sexual harassment and assault.

Due to the rapidly accelerating stream of allegations against Hegseth, he has resorted to bringing out the big guns in his defense – His Mother! She ventured into the friendly environs of Fox News to mount a counteroffensive to the reports of his intemperance. She told a sympathetic Steve Doocy that…

“We really believe that he is not that man he was seven years ago. I’m not that mother, and I hope people will hear that story today and the truth of that story. So the other thing I want to say is I am here to tell the truth. To tell the truth to the American people and tell the truth to the senators on the hill, especially female senators. I really hope that you will not listen to the media and that you will listen to Pete. It was a difficult time. […]

“I want to say something about the media. Part of today is to discredit the media and how they operate. When they contact you, I let a few phone calls go. But then they call you and say – then threaten you. That’s the first thing they do. They say unless you make a statement, we will publish it as is. And I think that’s a despicable way to treat anyone.”

By saying that her son is “not that man he was seven years ago,” she is essentially affirming that the reports about him are true, but it’s okay because he has, according to her, changed. However, that’s not what some of his coworkers at Fox News say, who told reporters that they have seen him drunk at work recently. She goes on to say that she hopes people will not listen to the media reports (except this one on Fox) that are supported by numerous witnesses and associates. She just wants people to listen to Hegseth himself. Because he has no bias?

What’s more, she admits that she is there on Fox News “to discredit the media.” Then she complains that she was “threatened” by a reporter who told her that “unless you make a statement, we will publish it as is.” But that’s not a threat. It’s a standard and proper journalistic courtesy. It’s an invitation to provide a rebuttal prior to publication.

For his part, Hegseth did an interview with shameless Trump-fluffer, Megyn Kelly. And in that discussion he dismissed the reports of his bad behavior as invalid because they are “All anonymous, all innuendo, all rumor, nothing sourced.” Although, one the main sources was Hegseth’s mother, who wrote an email to him saying, “I have no respect for any man that belittles, lies, cheats, sleeps around and uses women for his own power and ego. You are that man (and have been for years).” So what exactly is he saying about her as a source?

Hegseth’s mom says that she reconsidered her original email and sent him an apology shortly after. But for some reason neither she, nor he, has bothered to give that one to the press to prove it. I wonder why. Which seems odd for someone saying that she wants to tell the truth. Unless, of course, it doesn’t exist.

Note… None of this addresses the fact that, regardless of what Hegseth’s mother says, or his reported problems with alcohol and sexual assault, he remains utterly unqualified to run the Pentagon. His prior experience yakking on Fox News, and mismanaging a couple of small charities is not preparation to run an enterprise with a budget of $850 billion and over three million people.

Now that Mommy Hegseth has come to the rescue of her sleazy son, we have to ask, where the heck was Lloyd Austin’s mother? In these harrowing times, can we really afford to have a Defense Secretary whose mom hasn’t shielded him from the nefarious forces of the political opposition and the press? And now that they are facing the prospect of Trump and Hegseth and his mother, Vladimir Putin and his mother must be shaking in their boots.

Fox News Buries Reports of Trump’s Unsavory, Unqualified Defense Secretary Pick, Pete Hegseth

One thing that can be said about Donald Trump is that he has a deep affinity for people who share his noxious personality and absence of ethical values. He consistently surrounds himself with other wealthy narcissists who are devoted to serving their own interests and greed at the expense of everyone else.

Fox News, Pete Hegseth, Cleared

For an example of this Trumpiness in his toadies, one needs to look no further than his current nominee for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth. The abhorrent nature of Trump is readily apparent in Hegseth’s conceited certainty that he has the experience and skills to run the Pentagon. What he does have is unwavering fealty to Trump and a Fox News resume.

Hegseth’s history as the weekend host of Fox and Friends has not only won him the attention of Trump, it has resulted in the stories of his decadent past behavior being blacked out on Fox “News.” CNN’s Brian Stelter reviewed Fox’s programming and discovered that they have utterly ignored some bombshell revelations about Hegseth…

“What’s a media outlet supposed to do when its longtime host is picked to run the Pentagon, and then a series of eyebrow-raising news stories trigger doubts about his appointment? If you’re Fox News, evidently, you just pretend the stories don’t exist. […] On Fox, Hegseth’s former colleagues aren’t raising alarms about the allegations or defending him – they’re just not talking about the issue at all.”

This is typical of Fox News, a network whose mission from its inception has been to advance right-wing politicians and policies. Among the revelations that have recently been reported about Hegseth by actual journalists are…

  • Emails by Hegseth’s mother who wrote to him “On behalf of all the women (and I know it’s many) you have abused in some way, I say … get some help and take an honest look at yourself. I have no respect for any man that belittles, lies, cheats, sleeps around and uses women for his own power and ego. You are that man (and have been for years) and as your mother, it pains me and embarrasses me to say that, but it is the sad, sad truth.”
  • And that “A woman told police that she was sexually assaulted in 2017 by Pete Hegseth after he took her phone, blocked the door to a California hotel room and refused to let her leave, according to a detailed investigative report”
  • And a whistle-blower report that Hegseth “was forced out of previous leadership positions for financial mismanagement, sexist behavior, and being repeatedly intoxicated on the job.” The report detailed multiple accounts of Hegseth being so drunk he had to be carried back to his hotel room. It also revealed incidents like the one where he “had to be restrained while drunk from joining the dancers on the stage of a Louisiana strip club, where he had brought his team.”

Jane Mayer, the author of the New Yorker story about the whistleblower, was interviewed on CNN Monday, where she outlined much of the atrocious behavior by Hegseth. In addition to his alcohol-fueled debauchery, she calls into question whether someone who could not manage a small charity (actually two of them) with a handful of staffers would be able to run the Pentagon with a budget of $850 billion and more than three million people.

What this tells is that Hegseth is absolutely unqualified to be Secretary of Defense, or to be considered for any position in government. But it also tells us that he should not have been employed by Fox News either, and that they should not consider rehiring him if his nomination is rejected by the Senate, as it must be.

Hegseth is incompetent and is an unrepentant abuser of women and liquor who, like Trump, is on his third marriage, after his cheating and lying and abuse resulted in the first two failing. Although it is just that sort of deplorable behavior that explains why Trump likes him so much. They are two of a kind.

UPDATE: NBC News is now reporting that “as many as 6 Senate Republicans are currently not comfortable supporting [Hegseth’s] bid.” If only half that many say “NO” Hegseth cannot be confirmed.

The shape of Trump’s Cabinet has become deplorably clear in the past few days. His nominees so far reflect his inherent corruption, ignorance, aspirations of autocracy, and the shallowness of a former reality TV game show host. Most of his picks are closely associated with his Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News.

Trump has not yet named his choice to be his press secretary. But rest assured that it will be a brazenly dishonest purveyor of self-serving falsehoods. In the meantime, we should appreciate the press secretary currently serving President Biden, Karine Jean-Pierre.

At Wednesday’s daily White House press briefing, the noxious odor of Fox News wafted into the room as a reporter from their business network, Edward Lawrence, was called upon to ask a question. True to form, it was a preposterous question that had nothing to do with any matter of concern to the American people. Instead, he sought to manufacture a melodrama out of the morning meeting that Biden had with Trump…

Lawrence: We saw a unified front related to a transition in the Oval Office meeting. But a lot was said on the campaign trail like ‘Trump is a dangerous threat to our country and our democracy. Was there an apology today?
Jean-Pierre: I’m sorry? Apology from whom? I’ve answered this a couple of times with respect to democracy in the past week. The President is always going to feel obligated to be honest with the American people. What he says still stands. And it’s not just him. You heard this from former [Trump] staffers.

Biden had nothing to apologize for. He told the truth about Trump. And as Jean-Pierre went on to note, is was Trump’s own close associates who were the ones that raised the question of his threat to democracy. It was his White House Chief of Staff, Gen. John Kelly, his Defense Secretary, Gen. James Mattis, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark Milley, and others who said that Trump was a fascist who praised Hitler. Trump himself made statements that were overtly threatening to democracy, such as branding his critics as “the enemy within.”

Lawrence’s question also neglected to mention that Trump used the very same language aimed at Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris, who he said, without a shred of evidence, were threats to democracy. But Lawrence didn’t bother to ask whether Trump apologized. Unrattled by Lawrence’s purposeful provocation, Jean-Pierre gave a calm and coherent response…

Jean-Pierre: What we also want to be very clear about is listening to the will of the American people. There was an election. It is important to respect our institution. It is important to respect the free and fair election. And that’s what this President is doing.

America needs to prepare itself for what’s to come in the White House Press Briefing room. Axios is reporting that Trump is expected to “shake it up.”

“Trump’s first administration tried to ban outlets it saw as unfavorable from off-camera press briefings. That included the New York Times, Politico, CNN and BBC.” […]

“Any efforts to expand access to daily press briefings to pro-Trump outlets, such as Steve Bannon’s War Room, would need to come at the expense of existing outlets.”

So get ready for briefings that feature folks like Bannon, Alex Jones, and Laura Loomer. The “mainstream” media reporters from the New York Times and CBS and NPR will all be banished as “fake news.” And Trump’s press secretary is likely to be someone like his former attorney Alina Habba or his daughter Tiffany. Which means the rest of the media had better grow a spine and be prepared to protect the very notion of a free press.

Fox News Edits Trump Video in the Same Way that They Accused CBS, Which Trump Said Was Illegal

The bar for hypocrisy by Donald Trump and his MAGA media apologists has been set so low that a cockroach couldn’t limbo underneath it. But that doesn’t stop them from trying. Case in point… Fox News has been revealed to have engaged in behavior that they previously castigated CBS for, even though CBS did not do what Fox alleged, but Fox did.

Fox News, Fake News

A couple of weeks ago, Vice-President Kamala Harris was interviewed on CBS’ 60 Minutes. This interview has been an annual tradition for presidential candidates of both parties for fifty years. This year, however, Trump chickened out, which was probably a rare wise decision on his part given the increasing frequency of his abhorrent commentaries and humiliating mental glitches that has caused him to cancel multiple media events.

Following the Harris interview, Trump lashed out at CBS with a preposterous accusation that the network had improperly edited the discussion in order to make her look better. Trump raged that the interview was “A giant Fake News Scam by CBS & 60 Minutes…which is totally illegal.” He called for CBS – and all the other broadcast news networks – to have their licenses revoked (FYI: broadcast TV networks are not licensed by the federal government). But even that wasn’t enough to satisfy him. He also demanded that Harris drop out of the race.

As it turns out, there is a network that improperly edited a campaign event for a presidential candidate. And no one will be surprised to learn that it was Fox News and the candidate was Donald Trump.

Trump staged a totally phony photo-op at a barbershop in the Bronx. The shop, and all of those present in it, were pre-screened Trump supporters. And now the segment that Fox News produced there has been exposed for its blatant deceit. As reported by CNN…

“Trump was seen taking questions and making small talk with Black and Hispanic barbershop customers and workers [but] Fox edited out many of Trump’s rambling comments and false claims. Participants had to repeatedly follow up when Trump meandered away from the original point of their questions.

CNN reported that the editing by Fox News deliberately excised some of Trump’s most noxious comments. They included his repeating the nonsense about Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, eating cats and dogs, his incoherent rambling in response to a question about taxes, and his gushing praise for Hungarian dictator, Viktor Orbán.

A Fox News spokeswoman admitted that the barbershop segments “were pre-taped and edited…for time and clarity.” Which, according to CNN’s analysis of the raw footage, is false. There was a clear attempt to alter the impression made by Trump at the fake campaign stop. However, Fox’s excuse is exactly what CBS said about its editing of the 60 Minutes segment, which Trump insisted was illegal. So it’s apparently okay for Fox News to do it, but a criminal offense if CBS does.

An attorney for CBS replied to the threat made by Trump to sue the network, saying that…

“‘It begs logic to argue that 60 Minutes hid the first part of the Vice President’s answer to the question,’ [CBS SVP Gayle C.] Sproul wrote. ‘It did not. The public is aware of that part of her answer because 60 Minutes itself publicly distributed it by providing it to Face the Nation for promotional purposes and posting it on X and other 60 Minutes-branded social media for the same reason.'”

This isn’t the first time that Fox News has manufactured such a brazenly biased charade and passed it off as “news.” They recently aired a program that they promoted as a citizens town hall with Trump. However, the audience was stacked with MAGA devotees whose questions were marinated in a glutinous purée of adoration for Dear Leader.

The fact that Fox News is so committed to shilling for Trump and other MAGA Republican politicians and policies is not exactly a new discovery. But the fact that they are so bad at it after so many years of practice is pretty pathetic. And as their partisan goals get farther from reach – such as Trump’s candidacy – we can expect them to crawl even farther out on the limb of dishonesty and journalistic misconduct.
