Fox News Hypocrite Embraces Cancel Culture When Florida Restaurant Bans Biden Voters

A couple of years ago Fox News popularized a thoroughly manufactured variant of political correctness that was labeled “cancel culture.” It referred vaguely to the criticism of any person or policy embraced by Fox News or their right-wing Republican confederates. And like the proponents of cancel culture, no hypocrisy was too great to prevent flinging it at who or whatever was the outrage of the moment.

Fox News, Fake News

On Wednesday morning’s episode of Outnumbered on Fox News, the panel introduced a segment about the DeBary Diner in Florida. The restaurant had gained local notoriety for posting a sign in the window that told anyone who had voted for Joe Biden to “take your business elsewhere.” This was received enthusiastically by the Fox News crew. The sign read in full…

“If you voted for and continue to support and stand behind the worthless, inept and corrupt administration currently inhabiting the White House that is complicit in the death of our servicemen and women in Afghanistan, please take your business elsewhere.”

Gee, they seem nice. Never mind that they are blaming Biden for a bombing carried out by terrorists, while Biden had actually presided over an unprecedented airlift of more than 120,000 people – Americans and Afghan allies – to safety out of Afghanistan.

Although the sign is actually the sort of hospitality one might expect in state that is currently the nation’s hot zone for the coronavirus, and whose governor couldn’t be more pro-COVID if he tried (and he is trying). It’s a state where asking patrons to wear face masks to protect themselves and others from a deadly virus is tantamount to communism, but banning them based on who they voted for gets a big thumbs up

When co-host Pete Hegseth was asked to comment on the subject he babbled an entirely predictable endorsement of the restaurant’s anti-Biden policy. He said that…

“Yeah, it’s a free country for now, and she’s expressing a sentiment and speaking for a lot of people. And ultimately a statement like that is a guttural scream that ‘I love my country. I love the troops that defend it. And I don’t respect those who don’t stand by that.’ So customers can make a choice and I actually think this will lead to a lot more business for her than those that turn turn away,

Right. It’s a free country , except if you voted for the “wrong” person. Then you can be denied service. And that’s acceptable to Hegseth, even though denying service to people without masks is abominable. But what’s even worse is that Hegseth is contradicting remarks made on Fox News back in July of 2018, when a restaurant declined to serve Donald Trump’s press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders. The person contradicting Hegseth was … that’s right… Pete Hegseth:

“What does it say about the left that they stand in solidarity with a business that kicks out a paying customer just because of their political position?”

So to summarize, according to Hegseth, it’s utterly contemptible for a restaurant to refuse service to a single Republican based on her specific political ideology and actions. However, it’s perfectly fine, in fact laudatory, to ban everyone who voted for a Democratic president regardless of what their positions are on any specific matter. Good to know.

For the record, Republicans are the most frequent abusers of cancel culture. For instance, a frenzy of censures were imposed on disobedient Republicans who were deemed to have betrayed Dear Leader Trump. They include Sen. Bill Cassidy, Sen. Richard Burr, Sen. Ben Sasse, Sen. Pat Toomey, Rep. Liz Cheney, Rep. Peter Meijer, Rep. Fred Upton, Rep. Tom Rice, and Gov, Doug Ducey, so far.

Trump himself could be crowned the King of Cancel Culture. He has called for boycotts of mostly American companies that ticked him off on numerous occasions. Here’s a batch of ten that include Harley-Davidson, CNN, Apple, Fox News, and AT&T. And here’s a batch of nine more including Major League Baseball, Coca-Cola, Delta Airlines, Citigroup, Cisco, and Merck.

Clearly the GOP has not been vaccinated for hypocrisy. And the shameless example provide by Fox’s Hegseth tells the tale of a network that simply doesn’t care about consistency or intellectual integrity. The only thing that matters on Fox News is whether they can use some wild allegation to attack their political foes.

Their viewers don’t seem to care either, or they are just too dimwitted to notice. Which is by design at Fox News, where they deliberately keep their audience in a cognitive stupor by administering a constant flow of fear and falsehoods.

Fox News, Trump, and the GOP Are Openly Threatening the Constitution and Democracy

From its inception twenty-five years ago, Fox News was a malignancy on the media. The motto that launched the network – “fair and balanced” – was intended to imply that the rest of the media was neither. It was more than an advertising slogan that criticized its competitors. It was borrowed from cult doctrine that taught disciples to trust only them and no one else.

Fox News, Constitution

Donald Trump embraced the same indoctrination tactics as he drummed into his followers heads that “the media is the enemy of the people.” He literally instructed them in Orwellian terms that they couldn’t believe their own eyes and ears, saying that “what you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what’s happening.”

Consequently, the results of a new study by the Pew Research Center shouldn’t surprise anyone. It found that…

“In just five years, the percentage of Republicans with at least some trust in national news organizations has been cut in half – dropping from 70% in 2016 to 35% this year. This decline is fueling the continued widening of the partisan gap in trust of the media.”

On the other hand, an overwhelming majority (78%) of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents said they have “a lot” or “some” trust in the national news media. The difference between Democrats and Republicans is a whopping 43%. So while Democrats rely on credible outlets with verifiable sources and documentation, Republicans are slaves to Fox News, Breitbart, OAN, and other professional propagandists. And the echo chamber linking those propaganda merchants and Trump completes the right-wing media circuitry.

On Tuesday the Republican Party went even further off kilter by making threats against telecom companies should they comply with legal requests by Congress for information. The House Select Committee on the January 6th insurrection asked the companies to preserve data in the event that the Committee might later request it as part of their investigation. That set off the House GOP leader, Kevin McCarthy who warned that…

“If these companies comply with the Democrat order to turn over private information, they are in violation of federal law and subject to losing their ability to operate in the United States, If they pursue this path a Republican majority will not forget.”

McCarthy was unable to cite what law the companies would have violated by complying with a request from Congress. But that’s only because there is no such law. To the contrary, it would be unlawful obstruction of justice if they did not comply, as pointed out by Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA). In addition, GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene joined McCarthy’s mob-style threat and made one of her own. “These telecommunication companies,” she warned, “if they go along with this, they will be shut down. That’s a promise.”

Green made her threat on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News program. And Carlson was quick to agree. He told her that “That sounds like a threat, and we fervently hope it is. […] You should shut them down. I mean you should take those companies down.”

Carlson, McCarthy, and Greene were appropriately criticized and ridiculed on social media for their ignorant, and ultimately impotent, threats. However, something has been missing from those critiques. What no one seems to have noticed is that these were actually attacks on the Constitution and its protection of freedom of the press. Two of the biggest telecom companies are AT&T and Comcast. AT&T is the parent corporation of CNN. And Comcast owns NBCUniversal.

So the threats by McCarthy and Greene to “shut down” these press operations are blatant violations of the First Amendment that states that “Congress shall make no law … prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press.” And the collusion with Fox News and Donald Trump turns this into a cabal of anti-constitutional conspirators who seemed determined to sabotage democracy and the principles upon which this nation was founded. They are not fit to serve in either government or media. And the American people should should shut them down before they cause even more harm.

Fox News Reporter Scolds GOP for It’s Knee-Jerk Attack on Biden After Afghanistan Terrorism

From the moment that President Biden affirmed his commitment to finally end the twenty year long war in Afghanistan, Republicans and their Ministry of Propaganda (aka Fox News) have been launching utterly baseless attacks on Biden, Democrats, and the military that is struggling to save the lives of Americans in Afghanistan and their Afghan allies.

Joe Biden, Donald Trump Baby, Fake News

The robotic response by GOP partisans is to be expected. Their penchant for putting party before country is inbred into their political psyche. And they are devoted to tearing down America’s leadership in the White House and the Pentagon whenever a Democrat is charge. It is the same predictable hostility to the best interests of the nation that Donald Trump displays, despite the fact that he is largely responsible for the situation the country finds itself in today.

That said, there was a hell-freezes-over moment on Fox News Thursday morning when they were reporting on a terrorist bombing near the Afghanistan airport. Correspondent Jennifer Griffin was apparently fed up with the flood of self-serving Republican criticisms flooding the airwaves that cast Biden as being at fault for the terrorist assault. And she let them know it:

“The Pentagon and the White House knew that it was a dangerous mission. But right now it’s not a time for congressman and people on the Hill saying ‘woulda, coulda, shoulda.’ It’s now time to look at the reality.

“The reality is that they got 100,000 Afghan evacuees out since August 14th. They are still trying to rescue Americans who are trapped outside of the airport. There are active measures in place and what I have seen behind the scenes here at the Pentagon and with military sources in Afghanistan is nothing short of heroic.”

https://youtu.be/L2PAJNZxjwU

That’s an uncharacteristically accurate summation of current events in Afghanistan. And accuracy is not something that Fox News generally aims for. But Biden’s management of the evacuation, while not perfect, has succeeded in accomplishing the largest airlift in history in a remarkably short time span. And it is continuing even under these trying circumstances.

The risks were not unknown prior to Thursday’s bombing. In fact, the U.S. State Department had been issuing warnings to Americans for days. The most recent alert was put out just the day before warning that…

“Due to threats outside the Kabul airport, US citizens should avoid traveling to the airport and avoid airport gates unless you receive instructions to do so. Those at the Abbey Gate, East Gate, or North Gate now should leave immediately.”

This attention to conditions on the ground very likely saved lives. Meanwhile, Cadet Bone Spurs (aka Donald Trump) was busy dictating his alt-tweets to his spokes-shill, Liz Harrington (whose proxy Trump tweeting is violating Twitter’s rules against circumventing a ban). Trump’s message on this grim occasion was that “If [Democrats] could fight wars like they cheat in elections, we would win in one day.”

So Trump is exploiting a tragedy in order to continue propagating his “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “stolen” from him. But what Trump surely doesn’t know is that his infantile whining is an epic self own. Trump thinks that Biden and the Democrats are to be faulted for failing to “win” the war in Afghanistan after being in office for only seven months. Trump had four years to do it and failed to either claim victory (“in one day”) or to complete a withdrawal.

Trump also gave Democrats a backhanded compliment with his admission that they outsmarted him by beating him in the 2020 election. Although outsmarting Trump isn’t a particularly high bar to get over. And now he has even lost at least one Fox News reporter who recognizes that taking advantage of tragedy is not only bad optics, it’s a display of gross indecency and inhumanity. Which is pretty much what we expect from Trump and his Republican Party.

HUH? GOP Chair Touts DeSantis Plan to Let People Get COVID as ‘Smart Leadership’

If you’re having trouble figuring out what the Republican agenda for America is, don’t worry. It’s not you. Other than tax cuts for the rich and deregulation, the Republican Party has not had an affirmative agenda for years. Their focus has been devoted almost solely to opposing the progressive policies of the Democratic Party and obstructing the popular initiatives that Democrats have proposed.

Republican Virus

As the “Party of No,” Republicans have proven that they couldn’t care less about what the people want. The latest legislative goals of the Democrats (including the $1 trillion infrastructure bill and $3.5 trillion budget bill) are broadly favored by significant majorities of the American people. But Republicans refuse to serve the interests of their own constituents, preferring to mislead them into believing flagrant falsehoods and crackpot conspiracy theories.

The same perverse political philosophy is being pursued by the GOP with respect to managing the COVID pandemic. They have adopted Donald Trump’s position of declining any constructive action because it might benefit President Biden or upset their cult followers. And to that end, the chairwoman of the Republican Party, Ronna Romney McDaniel, expressed her approval for Florida’s governor Ron DeSantis and his strategy for addressing the pandemic surge that has made Florida the world’s top COVID hot zone. McDaniel tweeted that…

“This is smart leadership. Instead of pushing for mandates, Republican governors are getting people the treatments and resources they need.”

McDaniel’s tweet linked to an article on Fox News that described how DeSantis “mobilized a ‘rapid response unit’ this week to administer monoclonal antibody treatments to state residents infected with COVID-19.” So what McDaniel thinks is “smart leadership” is to make an attempt to provide treatment for people who have contracted the deadly virus, rather than to prevent them from getting sick to begin with. After all, DeSantis has been fiercely fighting any efforts to deal with coronavirus transmission via tried and true methods such as masks and vaccines. Now he, and McDaniel, think it would be better just to treat them after they get sick.

There are numerous problems with that plan. First of all, Those who contract the virus will still be carriers who can infect others and exacerbate the pandemic’s spread. They will also be subject to the possible long-COVID health problems that could produce permanent disabilities.

What’s more, the monoclonal antibody therapy is less effective at mitigating the pandemic than vaccines and masks, and not effective at all after severe symptoms develop. Additionally, it is far more expensive to administer. It costs about $1,500 per dose, compared to $20.00 for the vaccine and $2.00 for a good K95 mask. Plus it requires hospitalization and medical staff to insert and monitor the IV delivery that it requires. All that to avoid getting a ten second poke in the arm.

Last week Florida reported 151,415 coronavirus cases, 15,441 hospitalizations, and 1,070 deaths. If the state were to treat all those infected with monoclonal antibodies, it would cost over $227 million dollars. However, vaccinating them would have cost only about $3 million. Plus, it would have the added benefit of preventing transmission, long-term illnesses, and possible deaths.

Republicans believe that people should have the freedom to decide whether to wear a mask or get vaccinated. Fine. But communities at large should have the freedom to decide whether those ignorant, irresponsible, and selfish louts should be permitted to mix with and endanger them in public places. The vaccine resistors complain that they aren’t comfortable getting a shot when they don’t know what’s in it or the long term effects. But they don’t know any of that about monoclonal antibodies either, yet they’re happy to get sick and shoot that up their veins.

This is what McDaniel regards as “smart leadership”? To the contrary, this is what Republicans regard as exploitable politics. All they care about is stirring up fear and inciting anger with which to attack their political foes. And if thousands more Americans die because of it, that’s just the cost of retaining power for a party that is totally devoid of ideas – or morals.

Fox News Poll: The Democrats’ $3.5 Trillion Budget Bill is Favored By a Whopping 18 Points

President Biden’s legislative agenda had a significant victory this week when the Senate passed a trillion dollar infrastructure bill with 19 Republicans joining every Democrat in a rare show of bipartisanship. Throughout the debate Donald Trump unsuccessfully begged Republicans to reject the popular package. All he succeeded in doing was affirming his political impotence.

Joe Biden, GOP, Titanic

The next item on the Senate calendar is a companion to the infrastructure bill in the form of a budget reconciliation bill that will likely have to pass with only Democratic votes. However, if Republicans were smart (a long shot at best) they would get behind this bill. And the proof that they would benefit came on Thursday in a Fox News poll.

The poll asked the following question: “Do you favor or oppose the U.S. Senate’s $3.5 trillion infrastructure package? The response was that a significant majority of the American people support the bill 56% to 38% – a decisive 18 point advantage. Reminder: This is a Fox News poll!

With that level of support, how can Republicans oppose it? Here’s how: They are wholly committed to pursuing a brazenly partisan strategy of dragging down Biden’s approval by dragging down the wellbeing of the nation. Even if it means working against the clear interests of the American people.

They may believe that they have some political cover because Republican support for the bill is a measly 24%, while 88% of Democrats support it. But Republicans are a distinct minority of the population at large and thus, a poor demographic upon which to rest their electoral hopes. And the poll was full of additional bad news for the GOP. For instance…

  • Do you approve of the job Joe Biden is doing as president? Yes: 53 – No: 46
  • Do you approve of the way Joe Biden is handling the coronavirus pandemic? Yes: 54 – No: 42
  • Do you favor the U.S. Senate’s $1 trillion infrastructure package? Yes: 62 – No: 30
  • Do you favor proof of a coronavirus vaccine for indoor activities? Yes: 50 – No: 46
  • Have you gotten vaccinated against coronavirus? Yes: 69 – No: 29 (Biden voters: 86 – Trump voters: 54)
  • Do you think schools should be allowed to require teachers and students to either wear a mask or provide proof of a coronavirus vaccine? Yes: 54 – No: 31

With numbers like that the Republican Party is making a huge mistake with their lock-step opposition to the budget bill, as well as a host of other issues on which the people differ with them. They don’t seem to care. They appear to be more concerned about pissing off Trump than the American voters. If so, there will be a political price to pay for that. They stuck with him through two impeachments. They stuck with him through the “Big Lie” and the January 6th insurrection at the Capitol. They even stuck with him though his coup attempts.

It doesn’t appear to have done them any good. But it’s a safe bet that the GOP will continue to stick with Trump because they simply haven’t got the courage to do the right thing. They are more afraid of Trump and his cult disciples than the American people. But come next November they will learn that they should have been more afraid of voters. Well, that’s if they still have the ability to learn.

Sean Hannity of Fox News Admits that ‘I Am Simply Not Qualified’ to Give Expert Advice

In recent weeks the Delta variant of COVID-19 has spread rapidly through communities of unvaccinated Americans. That means, of course, that mostly red state and Republican areas are suffering the worst of the viral spike. Consequently, there has been some significant movement among some conservative politicians and pundits who were previously loathe to make any positive comments about vaccines or the benefits of getting vaccinated.

Fox News, Sean Hannity, Coronavirus

Among those who were praised in the press was Sean Hannity of Fox News. Earlier this week Hannity told his vaccine-hesitant viewers to “Please take COVID seriously. I can’t say it enough. Enough people have died.” It wasn’t actually a call to get vaccinated. It was more like a legal disclaimer to do research and make your own decision. Which is a position that would make Captain Obvious blush as being way too apparent to anyone with a pulse.

Setting aside the undeserved credit Hannity received, he affirmed his stance against the benefits of getting vaccinated in a segment on Thursday night. Hannity delivered an extended refutation of the media reports that he previously might have said something marginally intelligent and responsible about vaccines. He certainly couldn’t let that stand. So he devoted a couple of minutes to denying that he ever did something so ludicrous as to advocate on behalf of preventing people from suffering long and painful illness and death.

The fact that Hannity felt it necessary to make absolutely sure that no one thought he would ever stoop to recommending a life-saving vaccine tells you just how committed he is to perpetuating the pandemic, and how afraid he is of alienating his anti-vax audience. He said that…

“I never told anyone to get a vaccine. I’ve been very clear. I am simply not qualified. I’m not a medical doctor. I know nothing about your medical history or your current medical condition. I think it’s inappropriate for me to do so.”

How thoughtful of Hannity to clear that up. We wouldn’t want anyone to mistakenly believe that he cared about the public welfare. But even more helpful was his admission that “I am simply not qualified.” That’s objectively true. However, it’s an admission that doesn’t apply to just his medical credentials, or lack thereof. Hannity also has no qualifications for any of the subjects he pontificates on nightly. He’s a college dropout who rose through the ranks of radio shock jocks to land a spot on Fox “News.” He isn’t an expert on economics, or the military, or health insurance, or climate science, or government ideology, or education, or immigration, or labor, or last but not least, journalism.

Nevertheless, Hannity gives extraordinarily half-baked (if that) advice on all of those matters. and all of his ill advice comes with blatantly biased, ultra-rightist slants. More often than not his advice consists merely of infantile insults aimed at Democrats, liberals, and other ideological foes.

Regarding his pandemic punditry, Hannity claims to be pro-science. However, he has spent much of the last year insisting that the coronavirus was either a hoax, a glorified flu, or a Democratic plot to hurt Donald Trump – who also lied about the virus being a hoax, a glorified flu, or a Democratic plot. For his trouble, Hannity succeeded in contributing to the pandemic’s death toll. A study last year found that higher rates of coronavirus fatalities could be directly linked to watching Sean Hannity.

What’s more, Hannity’s COVID coverage surely had an impact on his Republican audience. A recent Washington Post/ABC News poll found that “Ninety-three percent of Democrats say they either have been vaccinated or definitely or probably will do so; that plummets to 49% of Republicans.”

So while about half of the Republicans who are likely Fox News viewers remain opposed to getting vaccinated, and thus, susceptible to getting infected, Hannity felt compelled to assure everyone that he isn’t advocating vaccinations for anyone. And that’s based on his being unqualified to have an opinion, which is, in point of fact, an opinion.

But if he’s going to bother bringing up the issue on his program, he surely knows that he could book an actual expert and let that person advocate for getting the shot. However, that would require Hannity caring about people, rather than just image and ratings and Trump love.

GOOD NEWS: Trump Warns That With Mail-In Voting There Will Be No More Republicans

America’s Biggest Loser, Donald Trump, continues to whine about his personal misfortunes. He is the most pitiful, weakest excuse for a “leader” the Republican Party has ever produced. How anyone can regard this sniveling crybaby as having strength is a mystery.

Donald Trump, Vote By Mail

Not only is Trump the first president in history to be impeached twice, his single term in office resulted in Democrats winning the House, the Senate, and the presidency. He is the first president in decades to leave office with fewer people employed than when he started. He exploded the national debt by cutting taxes for corporations and the wealthy. He advanced the nuclear aspirations of both Iran and North Korea. He incited deadly riots in Washington, D.C., by insurrectionist mobs. And he presided over the loss of more than 600,000 American lives due to his negligent and incompetent mismanagement of the COVID pandemic. And now Trump has a warning for his Republican confederates:

“Republicans must take seriously the effort by Democrats to completely change America through the Reconciliation Process. Democrats are now suggesting that budget reconciliation can be used to pass Mail-In Ballot legislation as well as trying to include Amnesty in their infrastructure package.” […]

“Any effort to dictate national Mail-In Voting will be a disaster for our Country and for conservatism. There will never be a Republican elected to high office again. I urge every Republican to fight this and deny Democrats a quorum if that is what it takes to make sure that the Democrats can’t use reconciliation. Republicans must push back for the sake of our Country and, far less importantly, the sake of the Republican Party!”

Trump’s warning reeks of the impotence of a failed wannabe tyrant who is waddling down dark alleyways fantasizing about returning to his imaginary throne. But even worse, it’s a warning that most Americans would view with delight. The prospect that “There will never be a Republican elected to high office again,” is more of a reward than a threat.

The MIT Election Data and Science Lab conducted a study on recent elections and the impact of mail-in voting. They found that “The percentage of voters casting ballots by mail grew to 46 percent, more than doubling the fraction from 2016.” So mail-in voting is not only popular, but it’s popularity is growing exponentially.

What’s more, citizens who voted by mail in 2020 indicated that they are anxious to continue doing so. A staggering 88% of Democrats said that they are “very” or “somewhat” likely to vote by mail again. And 68% of Republicans said the same thing.

So Trump is pleading for the GOP to fight the most popular form of voting that contributed to the highest voter turnout in 120 years. That should go over well with voters of all stripes. The truth that every American can plainly see is that Trump and the GOP are scared witless of higher voter turnout. They have always aimed at placing obstacles to voting because they know that the more people who vote, the more Democrats win.

The last thing that Republicans want is anything that actually resembles democracy. That explains why a recent poll revealed that the tiny but noisy Cult of Trump believes that the January 6th insurrectionists were “patriots” who were “defending freedom.” However, if they think that they can parlay that insanity into future electoral victories by suppressing the vote, they are likely to be sorely disappointed.

As for Trump, he is terrified and reduced to begging Republicans to help him build a virtual wall to stop the American people from voting. He’s so terrified that he’s expressing his fears of a voting populace out loud. And it isn’t the first time. In April he said pretty much the same thing on Fox News:

The Crackpot Cult of Trump Believes the January 6th Rioters Were ‘Defending Freedom’

Six months ago hundreds of treasonous subversives incited by Donald Trump stormed the United States Congress in an attempt to undermine democracy and prevent the peaceful transfer of power according to the will of the American people. It was an event so despicable that it produced harsh condemnations, even from Republicans including Sen. Mitch McConnell and Rep. Kevin McCarthy (although both have have since backtracked).

Donald Trump, QAnon, Dictator

That moment of bipartisan disgust and concern for the future of democracy was an encouraging sign that there was hope for unity where the fate of the nation hung in the balance. However, that moment was short lived. A new poll by CBS News has some disturbing findings and trends:

“A majority of Americans still specifically call what happened that day an ‘insurrection’ and an attempted overthrow of the government. This is where most Democrats and independents land. But roughly one-third of the country call it patriotism, or defending freedom”

While there is some comfort knowing that a majority of Americans recognize the horror of what took place January 6th, the number of those who see it as something positive is disconcerting. The most troubling finding in this poll is how Trump voters view the assault on America’s seat of government…

So a majority (55%) of Trump voters describe the riots on Capitol Hill as “Defending Freedom.” Likewise, a majority (51%) of Trump voters describe that event as “Patriotism.” Only 20% of them described it as “Insurrection.” Also worrisome is that 51% of Republicans strongly disapproved of the January 6th insurrection back in January, but now only 39% hold that position. That’s a 12 point swing toward insanity.

What this tells us is that today’s schizoid Republican Party has had some success in convincing their glassy-eyed followers that violent StormTrumpers who attacked police officers, vandalized property, and threatened to murder Vice-President Mike Pence and Speaker Nancy Pelosi, were actually guardians of virtue protecting the nation from some undefined, invisible foe bent on stealing Trump’s delusions of victory.

This also tells us that there is a lot of work to do if America is ever going to be restored as a model of democracy. How we will battle the kind of insanity that causes people to see unending videos of destruction and violence, but come away thinking it was, as Dear Leader Trump says, hugging and kissing, is a question that won’t be easy to answer. But if this poll is accurate, then it’s what we need to face, and we need to find to the solution sooner rather than later. Good luck to us all. We’re gonna need it.

DISGUSTING: Donald Trump Jr Thinks Democrats Getting COVID is God Being Funny

The Trump family has never been particularly respectful of religion or people of faith, other than to exploit them for political support or to enrich themselves. Their likeness to crooked preachers and pseudo-divine swindlers was evident in their transparent insincerity. They only ever brought up religion when they were in pursuit of some personal benefit.

Donald Trump Jr

Donald Trump was notorious for his blasphemous comments claiming to be The Chosen One and for his gross ignorance of the faith he pretended to practice. And apparently the rotten apple hasn’t fallen far from the Tree of Anti-Knowledge.

On Saturday, Donald Trump Jr sought to politicize and capitalize on the the distressing news that three Democratic representatives from Texas had tested positive for the coronavirus. A moral person would never use the misfortune of others to salve their own inherent inferiority. But the Trump spawn did just that in the most despicable way imaginable. This wasn’t an ordinary political insult. He is using humor to malign people who have been infected with a potentially fatal virus. He tweeted “Who says God doesn’t have a sense of humor?”

Really? Is there no bottom to this family’s abhorrent conduct? Mini-Trump’s callous tweet linked to an article on Fox News. That’s the same Fox News that his father has been battering for not backing up his dangerous and preposterous lies about the election being “stolen” from him; that has dismissed COVID-19 as hoax; that has attacked people for wearing masks; that has spread fake fear of vaccines; that has peddled conspiracy theories that vaccines don’t work, but “they” aren’t telling you.

The article on Fox News stated that “Three of the 60 Texas House Democrats tested positive for the virus while staying in Washington, D.C.” So while Trump and Fox sought to make the worst of this news, and to imply hypocrisy on the part of the Democrats, the truth is more complex.

All of the Texas Democrats were vaccinated, so traveling together without masks on a private chartered plane was in compliance with CDC guidelines. The three people who tested positive represent just 5% of the 60 who traveled together from Texas. Those numbers are in line with the estimate that the vaccine is about 95% effective in preventing infection. What’s more, those infected are suffering no symptoms, and avoiding severe illness, hospitalization, and death, is also a known benefit of having been vaccinated.

So what is the Trump puppy’s point? Is he just proud to be laughing at the misfortune of others, a common characteristic of compassionless Republicans? Is he endorsing the use of masks, which still provide protection even for those who are vaccinated, particularly during a surge caused by a new variant? Is he finally condemning the reckless behavior of his father who hosted many super-spreader cult rallies at the peak of the pandemic, and made both the White House and Mar-a-Lago coronavirus hot zones?

Additionally, Does Trump know that Texas is currently one of the worst hit states by increased COVID infections and hospitalizations? Does he think that’s funny too? He must think that the 600,000 dead Americans is downright hysterical.

It is unfortunate that a few Democrats have fallen victim to the coronavirus. And while they were complying with the guidance of health experts, it could be argued that they should have been more cautious. But this incident shouldn’t distract anyone from the reason that they are in Washington in the first place. Republicans in Texas are trying to pass a draconian bill that would suppress voting and give broad, totalitarian power to partisan state officials to overturn the will of the people.

These Democrats are heroes for doing what’s necessary, at great personal sacrifice and within the law, to preserve democracy. They deserve America’s thanks, not the grotesquely inappropriate and blasphemous attempt at “humor” by loathsome cretins like Trump.

In Predictable Perversion of Reality, Fox News Accuses Texas Democrats of ‘Insurrection’

The state of Texas is the latest to pursue a strategy of blatant voter suppression in order to reinforce their right-wing stranglehold on power. To that end their Republican dominated legislature is frantically trying to pass laws that will make it harder for communities of color and low-income (i.e. Democrats) to cast votes.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Q Shaman

So naturally, the GOP Ministry of Disinformation (aka Fox News) is doing its part to clamp down on free and fair elections. Fox News Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson, entered into the fray on this issue with his signature faux outrage and perpetually furrowed brow. Not content to deliver his customary hate mongering tirade, Carlson reached deep into his rhetorical repertoire of sarcasm, arrogance, and dishonesty to contrive a bizarre mangling of reality.

Facing the Republican autocrats determined to tilt all future elections in their favor, the Texas House Democrats left the state in order to deny their oppressors a quorum. And in an Olympic-grade feat of projection, Carlson lambasted the Texas Democrats saying that “they committed what amounted to an act of, yes, insurrection.” He elaborated

“Democrats in the state don’t oppose voter fraud. Nor critically do they believe in multi-party politics. So they stopped the entire process cold. Now preventing lawmakers from making laws, shutting down the vote, would not seem like a defense of democracy. In fact, it would appear to be just the opposite. It would appear to be an assault on the very core of democracy, which is the legislature, the people’s house.

“Even diabolical old Vladimir Putin never attempted to do that. But according to Joe Biden, this time it’s necessary. Sometimes you’ve got to end democracy in order to save democracy. That is, if you’re not a racist. ‘Requiring people to prove their identity when they cast a vote,’ said the President, ‘is an unrelenting 21st century Jim Crow assault.’ Really? How so? Biden never explains, but he didn’t need to. His bootlickers on cable television jumped in to do the talking for him.”

Whereupon, Carlson played a few seconds of excerpts from MSNBC and CNN hosts discussing the GOP’s anti-democracy crusade. After which he complained that they didn’t explain why the Texas bill constituted voter suppression. They actually explained it thoroughly, but Carlson’s clips were purposefully chopped so as to remove all of the relevant context. Then, in a another display of projection, he refers to them as “brainless shills,” when that is a far better description of Carlson and his television flock.

Carlson’s twisted take on insurrection is typical of how he abuses language. Fox News has been denying for months that there was any insurrection at all. And now Carlson wants to be taken seriously while suggesting that a peaceful boycott of a legislative session is equivalent to the violent and deadly riots that evidence shows Donald Trump incited in Washington, D.C. on January 6th (and continues to do so). Carlson is equating lawful public servants with criminal seditionists.

Contrary to Carlson’s flagrant fallacies, the Democrats are actually exercising the liberty that democracy guarantees them. If he wants an example of subverting democracy. he can refer to how Mitch McConnell refused to even allow a vote on over 400 bills passed by the House of Representatives. Or he might weigh in on Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s totalitarian threat to arrest the Democrats when they return to the state.

Carlson also felt compelled to malign President Biden, whose speech on voting rights the day before was profoundly moving and informative. Which might explain why Fox News was the only cable news “news” network that refused to air it. Instead of a timely and newsworthy presidential address, Fox chose to cover such crucial stories as Bill Gates’ divorce, a Fox Nation promo, and the “woke” military.

That’s just more proof that Fox is most definitely not a news network. Which makes it the perfect place for a lying propagandist like Tucker Carlson to spew his factless bullpucky for an audience of glassy-eyed cult followers. Where else could he get away with idiocy like his paranoid delusion that the National Security Agency (NSA) is spying on him? Or his baseless accusation that the FBI orchestrated the January 6th insurrection? Or his claim that health authorities know that vaccines don’t work and they aren’t telling you? That’s just how Fox News rolls.

UPDATE: Fox’s Peter Doocy once again found a way to introduce the stupidest perspective possible on this matter:
