Watch Sen. Durbin Scorch the ‘Braying Chorus’ at Fox News for Defaming the Police

Every now and then a political leader expresses thoughts that are so compelling and compassionate that they need no elaboration. And in the wake of the first hearing of the House Select Committee investigating Trump’s January 6th insurrection, Sen. Dick Durbin delivered just such a speech on the floor of the Senate.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham

What follows is a transcript and video of Sen. Durbin’s inspirational condemnation of Fox News cretins Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham:

In an effort to plumb the depths of political meanness and irresponsible, it is just too hard to choose between Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham. First they became our nation’s leading anti-vax quacks making their specious arguments against life-saving COVID-19 vaccines and sowing doubt among their viewers who are literally putting their lives at risk because of lies that these two individuals [and Donald Trump] are spouting.

And now they are creating a braying chorus focused on the police who defended this building on January 6th. Their mockery of the bravery of the Capitol D.C. Police who risked – and some lost – their lives in the January 6th situation in this Capitol building is cowardly and shameful.

It took courage for the police to face the Trump mob. It takes no courage for these Fox talking heads to belittle these officers. It takes no courage to practice their well worn smirks reacting to the bravery in these pleas. It’s hard to imagine reading a press account of what they said yesterday and last night about the hearing that took place, the things that they did.

Ingraham gave the “Best Performance in an Action Role” to Washington Metropolitan Police Officer Michael Fanone, who during the testimony recalled hearing he’d be shot with his own gun. Ingraham said, and I quote, “Well there was certainly a lot of violence that day. But it wasn’t a terrorist attack. It wasn’t 9/11. It wasn’t the worst thing that ever happened to America. It wasn’t an insurrection.”

And then Tucker Carlson responding with a smirk to footage of Fanone telling the hearing he experienced Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Throughout the monologue Carlson piled on to his previous claims about the violence being just quote, “A political protest that got out of hand.”

First the vaccines. Now defaming the police. This is irresponsible from start to finish. I would ask those at Fox network – not exactly my friends and allies in politics – to show common decency and common sense. Common sense when it comes to these vaccines, which we know if more people were vaccinated we wouldn’t be facing this resurgent need for masks and fear of this new variant. And common decency when it comes to the men and women in uniform who risked their lives for this building, this Capitol, this democracy, and this government.

Certainly there’s freedom of speech, but let’s hope that good sense will dominate this discussion over at the Fox network as to whether these two ought to be allowed to continue their rant.

The only problem with Durbin’s eloquent address came at the end when he suggested that Fox News was capable of either common decency or common sense. Neither of those traits have ever been evident on the network devoted to right-wing lies and propaganda, to dividing America, and more recently to Donald Trump and his aspirations of tyranny built on pathological lies and malignant narcissism. Other than that, Durbin was spot on.

Trump Doubles Down on His Deadly, Sociopathic, Pro-COVID Agenda

The stubborn determination of Donald Trump to see thousands more Americans suffer and die from a preventable illness is becoming harder to comprehend with each new comment he makes on the subject. Trump is already going down in history for having presided over the loss of more than 600,000 Americans due to his negligent and incompetent mismanagement of the COVID pandemic. But now he seems to be trying to put his dreadful record even farther out of reach of future genocidal leaders.

Donald Trump, Coronavirus

On Tuesday Trump released another of the alt-tweets that he has been having his spokes-shill, Liz Harrington, post on his behalf since he was banned from Twitter “due to the risk of further incitement of violence.” She is doing that in clear violation of Twitter’s terms of service that prohibit attempts to circumvent a suspension, and her account should be reported and suspended for her repeated breach of Twitter rules. On this occasion, Trump reprised his pro-COVID position insisting that…

“We won’t go back. We won’t mask our children. Joe Biden and his Administration learned nothing from the last year. Brave Americans learned how to safely and responsibly live and fight back. Don’t surrender to COVID. Don’t go back! Why do Democrats distrust the science? Don’t let this happen to our children or our Country.”

So Trump has decided, once again, to completely ignore the science that is alerting us to increasing risks. He says that he doesn’t want to “go back,” but the new guidance regarding masks is based on forward looking data that the pandemic is surging due to the new Delta variant, which is infecting a much younger population, including children. In fact, it is Trump who is going backwards to the days when he dismissed the coronavirus as a hoax or the flu, which he knew at the time was a lie. That position led to unimaginable grief and hardship.

What’s more, Trump’s assertion that “Joe Biden and his Administration learned nothing from the last year,” is about as far removed from reality as it can get. Biden is responsibly following the experts at the CDC. By continuing to dismiss the science, it is Trump who has learned nothing. But then, when has he ever learned anything?

Trump refers to “Brave Americans” who have “learned how to safely and responsibly live and fight back.” He must not be referring to the hundreds of thousands who are dead. Perhaps he means the approximately 100 million who have yet to get vaccinated, and who are mostly Trump supporters and Fox News viewers? They are the primary reason that the Delta variant is spreading so rapidly and necessitating the new masking guidance.

It is Trump who is going back. It is Trump who who is surrendering to COVID. It is Trump who not only distrusts, but demeans science. And it is Trump who is spreading the ignorance that will let the horrors of the past year happen all over again.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Last week Fox’s Peter Doocy asked press secretary Jen Psaki if Biden should ask Trump to join him in promoting the vaccine. Psaki replied that Trump didn’t need an “embroidered invitation.” He could have done his own PSA at any time in the past six months but chose not to.

Which makes it all the more grotesquely irresponsible that, even in this new statement by Trump, he still doesn’t bother to encourage anyone to get vaccinated. But that’s only because he simply doesn’t give a damn about anyone but himself.

Fox News Remedial Reporter Peter Doocy Tries – and Fails – to Set Up Jen Psaki

On Monday morning, Peter Doocy, the nepotism hire serving as Fox News White House correspondent, sputtered out another of his pitifully impotent attempts at a gotcha question for Jedi Press Secretary Jen Psaki. This is becoming a daily episodic farce that is way too predictable to last another season.

Jen Psaki, Fox News, Peter Doocy

You might think that after humiliating himself repeatedly, Doocy would take some time off to ponder what career path he might actually be suited for. It surely isn’t journalism. In just the past few weeks Doocy has presented his behind for spanking too many times to list, but here are a few standouts:

The latest moment of shame came when Doocy asked a short, but fatuous question concerning the troubling increase in COVID pandemic activity that all the data shows is hitting predominantly Republicans and/or Fox News viewers. The exchange with Psaki went something like this…

Doocy: On COVID, Dr. Fauci says we’re going in the wrong direction. Whose fault is that?
Psaki: Well, I would say first what he was referring to is the fact that because there are still a large population of people in this country who were unvaccinated, and we have the most transmissible variants that we’ve seen since the beginning of the pandemic, that more people are getting sick with COVID. Those numbers are not moving in the right direction. I think that’s accurate and you can see it by data.

The strikingly thin premise of Doocy’s question was aimed at prodding Psaki to assign blame for the viral spike. That is hardly an appropriate line of inquiry. The only purpose of such a question would be to goad Psaki into pointing fingers at Trump or Fox News or Facebook or any of the other sources of deliberate disinformation.

Following that, Doocy, or his confederates back at Fox’s studio, could complain bitterly that Psaki was taking partisan pot shots and pushing responsibility to others. Then, of course, the Fox Newsers would blame the Biden administration for COVID spreading in some contorted illogic devised just for the occasion.

Unfortunately for Doocy and Fox, Psaki, as usual, didn’t take the bait. Instead she provided a beginners lesson for Doocy on how viruses work and what makes them so dangerous. Not that he’ll be able to comprehend or retain such knowledge. But she has give it a try. Doocy will surely return the next day with yet another imagined zinger that will turn out to be another dud. And this show will continue until Fox News decides to have some mercy and cancel it.

The Pandemic of the Unvaccinated? No! It’s the Pandemic of the Fox News Infected

The past few weeks has seen a disturbing resurgence of the coronavirus. After appearing to have come under control due to the Biden administration’s success in making the vaccines widely available, the number of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths, are once again on the rise. And the cause of that is plainly attributable to the holdouts who are either reluctant or opposed to getting vaccinated.

Fox News, Covid

The data is clear that the increased viral activity is a preventable phenomenon that the CDC Director, Rochelle Walensky, has tagged as the pandemic of the unvaccinated.” Drilling deeper into the data reveals that the new COVID-19 hot zones are predominantly located in red states or Republican dominated areas.

However, even that doesn’t tell the whole story. The vaccine-averse are digging in even as the Delta variant, the most contagious yet, has become dominant. According to research conducted by an Axios/Ipsos tracking poll, Fox News viewers are significantly trailing viewers of other media in getting vaccinated:

“According to the combined sample, 62% of adults who use Fox News as their main news source have received at least one dose of the vaccine. That’s not nothing, but it’s still relatively low.” […]

“The people who get their news from CNN or MSNBC, for example, had a vaccination rate of 83% in the same polling. Likewise, 79% of adults who rely on network news have had at least one dose of a vaccine. About three-quarters (74%) who get their news from public television or radio were at least partially vaccinated.”

So the percentage of Fox News viewers that have been vaccinated is 21 points lower than viewers of CNN or MSNBC, and 17 points lower than those who get their news from the broadcast networks. While that is a troubling set of statistics, it isn’t especially surprising. After all, Fox News has been telling their audience for months that COVID is either a hoax or a flu. Even worse, Fox has warned that the vaccines have dangerous, even deadly side effects, or that they contain microchips or are otherwise key to a clandestine plot to control the population.

Fox fear monger Tucker Carlson recently warned his viewers that vaccines don’t work and “they” aren’t telling you. Just this week Fox’s Sean Hannity appeared to briefly concede that the vaccine was beneficial and should be taken. But the following day he reversed himself and told his audience not take his advice anyway because he’s not a doctor. As for Donald Trump, he gave his disciples at his latest cult rally a decidedly mixed message:

“How about the vaccine? I came up with the vaccine. They said it would take three to five years. Gonna save the world. I recommend you take it, but I also believe in your freedoms 100%.”

First of all, Trump asserting that “I came up with the vaccine.” may be one of the most thoroughly demented things he’s said since his proposal to inject Clorox as a virus treatment. More to the point, though, Trump isn’t going to persuade his flock to get the shot if he immediately qualifies his rather weak recommendation with a suggestion that their “freedoms” rest on not getting it.

The result of this leads to the conclusion that a “pandemic of the unvaccinated” is not the best description of our current state of affairs. This is more accurately described as a “pandemic of the Fox News infected.” Whether or not someone watches Fox News may be the best indicator of their vaccination status, or their likelihood of getting vaccinated in the future. Consequently, for the safety of everyone else, it might be best to avoid any contact with Fox News viewers. They are the ones most likely to be infected and transmitting the virus. Stay safe America.

UPDATE: It’s getting much worse. The red/blue vaccination divide was about two points in April. Now it’s six times greater:

Corona in Arizona: Trump Shill Promotes His Latest Super Spreader Rally as Virus Surges

Donald Trump will be delivering another of his cult rally rants on Saturday in Phoenix, Arizona. It’s actually just the same speech he has been giving all along – he won the 2020 election, Democrats are communists, Trump is the Messiah, etc. How anyone can listen to him more than once or twice is a mystery. His repetitive tirades are tedious in the extreme. Only a true disciple could tolerate it.

Donald Trump Rally, Sieg Heil

However, there is a profound difference in the scheduling of this particular rally, at this time, in this place. Not that Trump cares, but there happens to be a deadly pandemic in progress. And it is currently spiking significantly in Arizona. According to the Arizona Department of Health, the number of cases on July 23 (1,528) has more than quadrupled since July 17 (364), a week ago. The number of deaths has doubled so far, but fatalities always lag infections.

In this environment Trump is gathering his flock of mostly unvaccinated sheeple to a stadium where they will congregate indoors for hours without masks while the most infectious version of the coronavirus to date is running rampant. This is a COVID friendly affair that will likely produce hundreds of new cases, hospitalizations, and fatalities.

Nevertheless, Trump has been promoting the rally with the help of his spokeswoman, Liz Harrington. Harrington regularly tweets Trump’s “statements” that have taken the the place of his Twitter babbling since he was banned “due to the risk of further incitement of violence.” And he needs all the help he can get since his cult rallies are now only carried by cheesy, wingnut, wannabe networks like Newsmax and OAN:

It should not go without notice that Harrington’s postings are blatant violations of Twitter’s terms of service that prohibit attempts to circumvent a suspension. (more on that here). She has posted Trump’s pseudo-tweets at least 60 times in just the past three weeks. Harrington’s account should be reported and suspended for her repeated breach of Twitter rules.

In addition to the public health hazard that this pandemic party represents, the location was surely chosen in part because it is where crackpot conspiracy driven Republicans are conducting a fraudulent audit (aka fraudit) in order to “prove” that Trump scored a historic – albeit delusional – victory.

That effort, though, is going so badly that the Cyber Ninjas performing the fraudit just blocked the Arizona Senate’s GOP audit liaison from entering the site because he disclosed that there have been no discrepancies or irregularities found. That, of course, would contradict the lies that the Ninjas plan to tell whenever they finally complete their sham audit. But then, what’s another flurry of falsehoods after the tsunami of lies that have already blown through?

Sean Hannity of Fox News Admits that ‘I Am Simply Not Qualified’ to Give Expert Advice

In recent weeks the Delta variant of COVID-19 has spread rapidly through communities of unvaccinated Americans. That means, of course, that mostly red state and Republican areas are suffering the worst of the viral spike. Consequently, there has been some significant movement among some conservative politicians and pundits who were previously loathe to make any positive comments about vaccines or the benefits of getting vaccinated.

Fox News, Sean Hannity, Coronavirus

Among those who were praised in the press was Sean Hannity of Fox News. Earlier this week Hannity told his vaccine-hesitant viewers to “Please take COVID seriously. I can’t say it enough. Enough people have died.” It wasn’t actually a call to get vaccinated. It was more like a legal disclaimer to do research and make your own decision. Which is a position that would make Captain Obvious blush as being way too apparent to anyone with a pulse.

Setting aside the undeserved credit Hannity received, he affirmed his stance against the benefits of getting vaccinated in a segment on Thursday night. Hannity delivered an extended refutation of the media reports that he previously might have said something marginally intelligent and responsible about vaccines. He certainly couldn’t let that stand. So he devoted a couple of minutes to denying that he ever did something so ludicrous as to advocate on behalf of preventing people from suffering long and painful illness and death.

The fact that Hannity felt it necessary to make absolutely sure that no one thought he would ever stoop to recommending a life-saving vaccine tells you just how committed he is to perpetuating the pandemic, and how afraid he is of alienating his anti-vax audience. He said that…

“I never told anyone to get a vaccine. I’ve been very clear. I am simply not qualified. I’m not a medical doctor. I know nothing about your medical history or your current medical condition. I think it’s inappropriate for me to do so.”

How thoughtful of Hannity to clear that up. We wouldn’t want anyone to mistakenly believe that he cared about the public welfare. But even more helpful was his admission that “I am simply not qualified.” That’s objectively true. However, it’s an admission that doesn’t apply to just his medical credentials, or lack thereof. Hannity also has no qualifications for any of the subjects he pontificates on nightly. He’s a college dropout who rose through the ranks of radio shock jocks to land a spot on Fox “News.” He isn’t an expert on economics, or the military, or health insurance, or climate science, or government ideology, or education, or immigration, or labor, or last but not least, journalism.

Nevertheless, Hannity gives extraordinarily half-baked (if that) advice on all of those matters. and all of his ill advice comes with blatantly biased, ultra-rightist slants. More often than not his advice consists merely of infantile insults aimed at Democrats, liberals, and other ideological foes.

Regarding his pandemic punditry, Hannity claims to be pro-science. However, he has spent much of the last year insisting that the coronavirus was either a hoax, a glorified flu, or a Democratic plot to hurt Donald Trump – who also lied about the virus being a hoax, a glorified flu, or a Democratic plot. For his trouble, Hannity succeeded in contributing to the pandemic’s death toll. A study last year found that higher rates of coronavirus fatalities could be directly linked to watching Sean Hannity.

What’s more, Hannity’s COVID coverage surely had an impact on his Republican audience. A recent Washington Post/ABC News poll found that “Ninety-three percent of Democrats say they either have been vaccinated or definitely or probably will do so; that plummets to 49% of Republicans.”

So while about half of the Republicans who are likely Fox News viewers remain opposed to getting vaccinated, and thus, susceptible to getting infected, Hannity felt compelled to assure everyone that he isn’t advocating vaccinations for anyone. And that’s based on his being unqualified to have an opinion, which is, in point of fact, an opinion.

But if he’s going to bother bringing up the issue on his program, he surely knows that he could book an actual expert and let that person advocate for getting the shot. However, that would require Hannity caring about people, rather than just image and ratings and Trump love.

Fox News Hack’s ‘Gotcha’ Question Proves He Doesn’t Know What ‘Super-Spreader’ Means

Is anyone keeping track of how many consecutive days Fox News White House correspondent, Peter Doocy, has asked a stupid question at the daily press briefing, only get humiliated by Press Secretary Jen Psaki? Doocy is nothing if not determined to make a name for himself in this competition and, to his credit, he has commanding lead.

Jen Psaki, Fox News, Peter Doocy

At Tuesday’s press briefing Doocy sought to revisit an issue that he has been clinging to for several days. It concerns the Texas Democrats who left the state to prevent Republicans from passing a draconian voter suppression bill. While in Washington, D.C. a few of them tested positive for the coronavirus (which sicko Donnie Jr thought was hilarious). Doocy, along with other Fox News shills, have been trying desperately to turn that into a scandal, despite the fact that these “breakthrough” are known to occur, and for people who are vaccinated the symptoms will likely be minimal. The facts not withstanding, Doocy entered into this exchange with Psaki (video below):

Doocy: More than 10% of the traveling party with these Texas Democrats now claim to have a breakthrough case. Is there any concern that this trip that was intended to advocate for voting rights is now a super-spreader event in Washington?
Psaki: Well, I would say that’s not a characterization we’re making from here. We certainly understand there will be breakthrough cases. Even vaccines that are incredibly effective are not foolproof. They’re not 100% effective. We’ve seen that. Here’s the good news, though. We know that these vaccines, that these individuals have been vaccinated. It means it protects from death. It protects from serious illness. It protects, for the most part, from hospitalization, so that is a good sign.

It’s pretty sad that Psaki has to give Doocy answers as if he were a child. But she wants him to understand, so it’s necessary to politely condescend. After all, in his question he demonstrates that he doesn’t even understand the words he’s using. You can hardly call a half dozen viral infections among a fully vaccinated group of people a “super-spreader” event. Does anyone recall Doocy referring to Donald Trump’s cult rallies, with thousands of unvaccinated, maskless attendees, during the peak of the pandemic, super-spreader events? Those mass encounters resulted in significant spikes in infections and hospitalizations in the locales where they took place.

The only reason that Doocy is raising this non-issue now is that he’s hoping to use it to deflect from the larger issue about voting rights that the Democrats from Texas are making. He explicitly sought to divert attention from that with his follow up question to Psaki. But Psaki would not be distracted:

Doocy: Now that COVID-19, after contact with those Democrats, has reached the White House, what is your message to these Texas Democrats?
Psaki: Our message continues to be, thanks for standing up for voting rights, and the rights for Americans to have their voices heard at the voting booth, and we appreciate their efforts in that regard.

Meanwhile, Trump himself continues to support the voter suppression bills in Texas and elsewhere. He released a statement Tuesday morning linking to an op-ed asserting that “Republicans Are Making It easier to Vote and Harder to Cheat.” But you really have to wonder who would believe that a pathological cheater like Trump cares about making it harder to cheat. This is a guy who has publicly cheated on his three wives, his charities, his golf score, his “university” students, his veterans fund, his election and reelection campaigns, his taxes, and most recently his own donors. So he’s real paragon of virtue who’s commitment to honesty can be trusted. Right?

Fox News Shill Asks Jen Psaki an Idiotic Question that Trump Already Answered Idiotically

Another day, another humiliation for the Fox News White House correspondent, and nepotism poster boy, Peter Doocy. He appears to have been given the daily assignment of lobbing vacuous questions at Press Secretary Jen Psaki that she hit out of the park. It’s a dirty job, but someone at Fox has to do it. And they apparently found just the right patsy.

Fox News, Jen Psaki

On Monday Doocy thought he had a real stumper when he was called on Psaki to wind up his pitiful pitch. Studying his notes carefully, he let loose this zinger (video below):

Doocy: On vaccine hesitancy, as COVID-19 cases rise, if this is becoming a pandemic of the unvaccinated and you guys are having a hard time getting a certain part of the population to go get the shot, would President Biden ever call former President Trump and say ‘I need your help. Let’s cut a PSA and tell people to go do it?’

Let’s go to slo-mo for a closer look at what Doocy just threw down. He is plainly conceding that COVID cases are rising due to the resistance of glassy-eyed, fact-averse, Trump cultists to getting vaccinated. That’s the only reason he could have for regarding Trump’s participation in a vaccine outreach program to be beneficial. However, Doocy isn’t acknowledging the fact that Trump’s absence from this discussion for so many months already tells us where he stands. Psaki’s response to the question addresses that:

Psaki: First I would say that what we’ve seen in our data is that the most trusted voices are local officials, doctors, medical experts, civic leaders, clergy from time to time, and that is really where we have invested our funding and our resources.

We’ve seen almost every former president play a role in putting out a PSA making sure people understood in the country that the vaccine is safe and effective. We don’t believe that requires an embroidered invitation to be part of. But certainly any role of anyone who has a platform where they can provide information to the public that the vaccine is safe, it is effective, we don’t see this as a political issue. We certainly welcome that engagement.

Psaki’s answer recognizes that Trump isn’t necessarily the best pitchman for the vaccine. Even his own disciples aren’t likely to take his word for anything. They already know that he got the shot back in January, but that hasn’t moved them. Perhaps because he did it privately and spent the next few months dismissing it. Meanwhile, his peeps are waiting on trusted sources in their community to convince them that they would benefit from the vaccine.

What’s more, Psaki pointedly notes that Trump could have done a PSA at any time in the past six months but chose not to. Not only does he not need an “embroidered invitation” from Biden, getting one would probably have a negative effect. Trump wouldn’t want to have anything to do with the guy who crushed him in the 2020 presidential election. He didn’t even bother to attend Biden’s inauguration.

Trump also snubbed a prior vaccine promoting PSA that included every other living president. So why would he accept an invitation now? Given his narcissistic reluctance to not being the center of attention, if he cared at all about the welfare of the American people he could still have shot his own PSA starring himself, which would have gotten plenty of play on the right-wing media outlets where those who care about what he says are watching. However, Trump hasn’t even done that. What he did on Monday was to release this pitifully egomaniacal statement:

“Joe Biden kept talking about how good of a job he’s doing on the distribution of the Vaccine that was developed by Operation Warp Speed or, quite simply, the Trump Administration. He’s not doing well at all. He’s way behind schedule, and people are refusing to take the Vaccine because they don’t trust his Administration, they don’t trust the Election results, & they certainly don’t trust the Fake News, which is refusing to tell the Truth.”

So Trump went out of his way to baselessly smear Biden, whose response to the pandemic has been effective and who has the broad approval (66%) of the public. Plus, Trump exalted himself with utterly delusional assertions that vaccine hesitancy is related to his “Big Lie” that the election was “stolen” from him. Seriously? Trump thinks that people will risk a slow and painful (and preventable) death from a virus because of his bald-faced, evidence-free lies about an election that he so decisively lost?

What is obviously missing from Trump’s statement is any encouragement to his foolhardy flock to get vaccinated. This would have been an ideal time to make that pitch. But not for a self-absorbed cretin like Trump. And this is the guy who Doocy thinks it would be useful to invite to participate in a pro-vaccine PSA with Biden? Yeah, right! That’ll happen.

Fox News: Unvaccinated People Dying From COVID? So What? That’s Their Choice

The crusade by Fox News to murder their own audience is continuing at full blast. The ignorant and dangerous advice they are disseminating is directly contributing to the recent surge in coronavirus infections, hospitalizations, and fatalities. Virtually all of those being swept up in that surge (99%) are unvaccinated.

Fox News, Covid

By far, the segment of the American population that is unvaccinated, and refusing to get vaccinated, are Republicans and Fox News viewers. That shouldn’t surprise anyone since Fox News hacks like Tucker Carlson have been actively peddling conspiracy theories that vaccines don’t work, but “they” aren’t telling you. Studies show that watching Fox News actually increases coronavirus fatalities.

On Monday morning the Fox and Friends Death Panel upped the ante. Their discussion touched an imaginary government mandate to get vaccinated that doesn’t exist anywhere in the United States. Nevertheless, co-host Brian Kilmeade went ballistic over that delusional encroachment on what he regards as his personal freedom to die and to kill others:

Kilmeade: If you didn’t get a vaccination, that’s your choice. But if you did, like I did, and they did, and maybe you did, then you should not wear a mask. And if you want to go cliff diving this weekend, you don’t have to check with me. It seems a little dangerous. But I’m not gonna judge you. But if you put yourself in danger, if you feel that this is not something for you, don’t do it. But don’t affect my life.
Doocy: 99% of the people who are dying from COVID are unvaccinated.
Kilmeade: That’s their choice!
Doocy: They don’t want to die. So the administration and government is saying we need the mask mandates to protect the unvaccinated.
Kilmeade: That’s not their job. It’s not their job to protect anybody.

https://twitter.com/davidmweissman/status/1417120102424662016

There’s an abundance of idiocy in that brief exchange. It begins with Kilmeade asserting that everyone who has been vaccinated “should not wear a mask.” That is contrary to the guidance by most health experts and the CDC. Particularly in the midst of the rapidly spreading new Delta variant.

More to the point, Kilmeade’s tirade is reckless, heartless, and senseless. There is no rational equivalence between cliffing diving (a voluntary recreational activity), and COVID (a deadly viral pandemic for which nobody volunteers). What’s more, he includes his insistence that people should be allowed to make their own decisions so long as they “don’t affect my life.” Of course, the decision to not get vaccinated does affect the lives of the population at large because it increases the probability of viral transmission and mutation into more hazardous variants.

Finally, Kilmeade concludes with what he apparently thinks is the coup de gras of his irresponsible and idiotic argument. He claims that it isn’t the government’s job to protect people. He might want to check with the United States Constitution whose Preamble explicitly states as its purpose to “insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, [and] promote the general Welfare.”

If Kilmeade doesn’t believe that government has a role in protecting people, he must think that everything from the FDA to the EPA to even the armed forces are a heinous breach of government authority. He appears to be advocating for poisons in your groceries and toxins in your air and water. He is effectively arguing to disband the military and to defund the police.

Worst of all, Kilmeade and his confederates on Fox News are continuing to push for the rights of people to be inundated with lies that could result in their demise, or that of their loved ones. They are ignoring the fact that everyone has an impact on how the pandemic progresses and how much harm and grief it produces.

The only thing that Fox News and company care about is being opposed to whatever common sense health agenda is proposed by the Biden administration. It’s purely a partisan play that places politics above humanity. And it ought to make them criminally liable for the consequences.

DISGUSTING: Donald Trump Jr Thinks Democrats Getting COVID is God Being Funny

The Trump family has never been particularly respectful of religion or people of faith, other than to exploit them for political support or to enrich themselves. Their likeness to crooked preachers and pseudo-divine swindlers was evident in their transparent insincerity. They only ever brought up religion when they were in pursuit of some personal benefit.

Donald Trump Jr

Donald Trump was notorious for his blasphemous comments claiming to be The Chosen One and for his gross ignorance of the faith he pretended to practice. And apparently the rotten apple hasn’t fallen far from the Tree of Anti-Knowledge.

On Saturday, Donald Trump Jr sought to politicize and capitalize on the the distressing news that three Democratic representatives from Texas had tested positive for the coronavirus. A moral person would never use the misfortune of others to salve their own inherent inferiority. But the Trump spawn did just that in the most despicable way imaginable. This wasn’t an ordinary political insult. He is using humor to malign people who have been infected with a potentially fatal virus. He tweeted “Who says God doesn’t have a sense of humor?”

Really? Is there no bottom to this family’s abhorrent conduct? Mini-Trump’s callous tweet linked to an article on Fox News. That’s the same Fox News that his father has been battering for not backing up his dangerous and preposterous lies about the election being “stolen” from him; that has dismissed COVID-19 as hoax; that has attacked people for wearing masks; that has spread fake fear of vaccines; that has peddled conspiracy theories that vaccines don’t work, but “they” aren’t telling you.

The article on Fox News stated that “Three of the 60 Texas House Democrats tested positive for the virus while staying in Washington, D.C.” So while Trump and Fox sought to make the worst of this news, and to imply hypocrisy on the part of the Democrats, the truth is more complex.

All of the Texas Democrats were vaccinated, so traveling together without masks on a private chartered plane was in compliance with CDC guidelines. The three people who tested positive represent just 5% of the 60 who traveled together from Texas. Those numbers are in line with the estimate that the vaccine is about 95% effective in preventing infection. What’s more, those infected are suffering no symptoms, and avoiding severe illness, hospitalization, and death, is also a known benefit of having been vaccinated.

So what is the Trump puppy’s point? Is he just proud to be laughing at the misfortune of others, a common characteristic of compassionless Republicans? Is he endorsing the use of masks, which still provide protection even for those who are vaccinated, particularly during a surge caused by a new variant? Is he finally condemning the reckless behavior of his father who hosted many super-spreader cult rallies at the peak of the pandemic, and made both the White House and Mar-a-Lago coronavirus hot zones?

Additionally, Does Trump know that Texas is currently one of the worst hit states by increased COVID infections and hospitalizations? Does he think that’s funny too? He must think that the 600,000 dead Americans is downright hysterical.

It is unfortunate that a few Democrats have fallen victim to the coronavirus. And while they were complying with the guidance of health experts, it could be argued that they should have been more cautious. But this incident shouldn’t distract anyone from the reason that they are in Washington in the first place. Republicans in Texas are trying to pass a draconian bill that would suppress voting and give broad, totalitarian power to partisan state officials to overturn the will of the people.

These Democrats are heroes for doing what’s necessary, at great personal sacrifice and within the law, to preserve democracy. They deserve America’s thanks, not the grotesquely inappropriate and blasphemous attempt at “humor” by loathsome cretins like Trump.
