Desperate and Delusional Trump Resurrects the Zombie ‘Big Lie’ of Voter Fraud

STOP THE MADNESS! It seems that Donald Trump is still pining away in his Mar-a-Lago bunker, trying to convince himself – and any fractured soul who will listen – that he really did win the 2020 presidential election, despite the fact every analysis in every state by every political party proves otherwise. He simply can’t handle being America’s Biggest Loser.

Donald Trump, King

Now, three months after Joe Biden was inaugurated, five months after the election, Trump continues to cling pathetically to his warped version of reality. Upon having learned that a group of conspiracy crackpots succeeded in getting the Arizona Senate to allow them to conduct a recount of the Maricopa County votes, Trump weighed in with his usual impotent bombast. In a press release (since he’s been banished from most social media due to his promulgation of pathological lies), Trump wrote that…

“So many people would like to thank the brave and patriotic Republican State Senators from Arizona for the incredible job they are doing in exposing the large scale Voter Fraud which took place in the 2020 Presidential Election. Their tireless efforts have led to a massive recount, ballot examination, and full forensic audit, undertaken by experts retained by the State Senate, with results to be announced within six weeks.”

For the record, Trump’s loss in Arizona is not in dispute. There were two recounts that validated the results. The election board, consisting of four Republicans and one Democrat, certified the results. The “brave and patriotic Republican State Senators” Trump is referring to are actually just a gang of partisan thugs hoping to discredit the American electoral process. That’s a goal that Republicans share with Russian operatives who have been trying to do the same thing.

There is absolutely zero evidence of any voter fraud, large scale or not. And this recount isn’t going to find any using legitimate methods. Unfortunately, they don’t intend to use any legitimate methods. The firm hired by the Arizona GOP Senate is one that has been conspicuously involved in some of the most bizarre conspiracy theories circulating in Trump’s QAnon infested world. Rachel Maddow covered it in depth on Thursday night:

Trump went on to whine that Democrats had “sent 73 lawyers to Arizona in an effort to stop this recount,.” Which of course wasn’t true. But Democrats did file a motion to challenge it. Trump further claimed that the Arizona recount would eventually result in fraud being discovered in Wisconsin, Michigan, Georgia, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania. Once again, he has no shred of evidence to support any of that. However, he was pleased that the recount would be covered live by the brazenly biased purveyor of propaganda, One America News Network (OANN).

Trump’s press release went on to criticize Arizona’s Republican governor, Doug Ducey, and the mostly GOP County Commissioners, who he alleged were all accomplices in the “scam 2020 Election” because, of course they are. And he insisted that “We must never allow this to happen to our Great Country again. [and that] I predict the results will be startling!”

Trump’s prediction is the surest way of knowing that the whole affair is corrupt. He certainly knows who the players are and has been given assurances that they will produce the outcome he wants. None of this, however, will change the outcome of the election. Biden will remain President and Trump remain pathetic. But it is just this sort of dishonesty that ignited the violence at the Capitol on January 6th. And Trump and his cronies seem to be anxious to have more of it.

Trump’s Ignorance and Ego is Displayed in Loopy Lovefest With Hannity on Fox News

Three months after being banished from the White House, Donald Trump has finally emerged from his Mar-a-Lago bunker for his first on-camera interview. Naturally, he canoodled with his long-time love interest, Sean Hannity on Fox News. Hannity was typically starry-eyed as he lavished praise on Trump as “working harder than ever” [on what?] and lobbed childish insults at President Biden.

Donald Trump Sean Hannity

As has been the case with every other interview of Trump on Fox News, there was nothing newsworthy revealed. The questions were embarrassingly ingratiating and Trump’s replies were tedious regurgitations of his signature blend of whining and bragging (video below). “You’re gonna have the biggest tax increase you’ve ever seen,” Trump babbled. “Pro-life, second amendment, so many different things,” he insisted. But apparently he could only think of two. Then he segued to this mangling of history – and reality:

“Look, we got 75 million votes. That’s more than any sitting president in history by far. The word was that if we got 65 to 66 – we got 63 the first time and won. If you got 65 to 66 there was no way you lost. We got more votes – we got twelve million more votes than we got – and it’s never happened to another president.

“I don’t know if you know Sean, usually in a second term a president gets less votes. I got twelve million more. It’s the biggest that’s ever happened in history. From 63 to 75. Never happened before.”

Trump’s fascination with the election results is rooted in his desperate need to elevate his pitifully losing legacy. There is no truth – or coherence – to Trump’s assertion that “there was no way you lost” if you got 65 million votes. He obviously doesn’t grasp that the population of the country, and hence the potential vote count, is constantly increasing.

But even worse is his claim that no president has ever gotten more votes for a second term, or that his totals were “the biggest that’s ever happened in history.” For the record, every two-term president but one got more votes for their second term for the past half century:

Candidate 1st Term 2nd Term Difference
Nixon 31,783,783 47,168,710 15,384,387
Reagan 43,903,230 54,455,472 10,552,242
Clinton 44,909,806 47,401,185 2,491,379
Bush 50,456,002 62,040,610 11,584,608
Trump 62,984,828 74,216,154 11,231,326

Trump was not only lying about being the sole recipient of more votes for his second term, he also inflated the number of additional votes from about eight million to twelve million. And, of course, he completely erased the fact that Biden bested him by seven million votes (81,268,924). Biden’s enduring popularity is literally driving the right crazy.

Meanwhile, Trump continues to believe that he’s beloved by massive majorities of imaginary Americans. He thinks that he and his “Make America Great Again” agenda is essential for victories in 2022 and 2024, despite the losses of the White House and the Senate in 2020. What he still hasn’t absorbed is the reality that he lost the popular vote twice, never reached 50% approval in four years, was impeached twice, and remains the least popular president in history. But other than that, he’s real winner.

GOOD NEWS: Republicans Bet Future on the Century’s Biggest Loser, Donald Trump

The Republican National Committee has just announced that Donald Trump will be a featured a speaker at their party retreat on Saturday. The retreat, by the way, will be held at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, so it will not only be propping up his ego before an audience of drooling sycophants, it will be filling his pockets with cash.

Donald Trump Circling the Drain

The fact that Republicans are still so anxious to enrich Trump is a testament to the power of his con artistry. This comes after he angrily instructed his cult followers not to donate to the GOP, but to him instead. And then he ripped those donors off by deceiving them about what (and how much) they were donating.

But that isn’t the worst of it. By embracing Trump as the banner carrier of the Republican Party, they are hitching their wagon to this century’s biggest loser. Following two terms of Bush, then two terms of Obama, Trump promptly flamed out after only one term. And it was a spectacularly disastrous term that saw more than half a million Americans die due to Trump’s negligent and incompetent mishandling of the COVID pandemic.

Trump was also the first president in history to be impeached twice. He is the first president in decades to leave office with fewer people employed than when he started. He exploded the national debt by cutting taxes for corporations and the wealthy. He advanced the nuclear aspirations of both Iran and North Korea. He withdrew the U.S. from the international Paris Climate Change Accords. And he incited deadly riots in Washington, D.C. by insurrectionist mobs.

Nevertheless, as reported by Fox News, Republicans are still addicted to Trump’s brand of divisiveness, dishonesty, and his bullheaded attachment to willful ignorance:

“In his keynote address to GOP donors at his Mar-a-lago resort, the former president is expected to lay into President Biden on issues like cancel culture, proposed gun restrictions and especially for the record-breaking surge of migrants crossing the southern border.”

So The Trump-loving GOP has three top priorities for their future electoral agenda. The first will be “cancel culture,” a Fox News buzzword that holds little meaning to most Americans. Secondly will be opposition to sensible gun safety reforms that most Americans – including many Republicans – support. And third will be immigration, an issue that is near the bottom of the American people’s concerns, despite the efforts of the GOP and Fox News to fear monger and spread racist “white replacement” conspiracy theories. Fox’s report continued with quotes from Trump’s draft speech:

“I stand before you this evening filled with confidence that in 2022, we are going to take back the House and we are going to reclaim the Senate–and then in 2024, a Republican candidate is going to win the White House,” Trump says in the prepared remarks provided to Fox News. Trump is expected to accuse Biden of putting “America Last,” sowing cancel culture wars and not delivering on his promise to unite the country.”

In other words, the same old vacant political rhetoric that is slathered in lies and utterly devoid of any factual basis. Trump also takes a swipe at Biden as not “hav[ing] the energy, the capacity, or the stamina” for the job. Never mind that a Fox News poll found that that voters considered Trump as the “mentally unsound” candidate.

The GOP had an opportunity to get out from under that orange mop-topped anchor, but have decided to stick with the devil they know. Democrats may want to send their Republican counterparts a “thank you” card for making Trump the face of their party for the foreseeable future. It really is the best thing that can happen for Democratic hopes to secure their congressional majorities and hold on to the White House in 2024.

UPDATE: As expected, Trump delivered an ego-drenched oratory focused almost entirely on his delusional “Big Lie” insistence that the 2020 election was “stolen” from him. In the process he trashed leading Republicans like Sen. Mitch McConnell (as a “dumb son of a bitch”) and former VP Mike Pence (as a “disappointment”). And this self-serving insult fest was at a GOP pep rally intended to motivate party regulars prior to the upcoming election season. Nice work, Donnie.

POLL: Half of Republicans are Psycho Trump Cultists Who Believe Capitol Riots Were ‘Peaceful’

On January 6, 2021, hundreds of hostile right-wing extremists invaded the United States Congress in an attempt to violently obstruct the constitutionally mandated certification of the 2020 presidential election. They were sent by their faux messiah, Donald Trump, who insisted that the election was “stolen” in a fearmongering and reckless rant, saying that “If you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.”

Donald Trump Rally, Sieg Heil

Three months later a poll conducted by Reuters/Ipsos has documented what common sense had already confirmed: That the glassy-eyed disciples of the Cult of Trump are a bastion of delusional cretins who are willingly deceived and certifiably insane:

“Since the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, former President Donald Trump and his Republican allies have pushed false and misleading accounts to downplay the event that left five dead and scores of others wounded. His supporters appear to have listened. […]”

“[A]bout half of Republicans believe the siege was largely a non-violent protest or was the handiwork of left-wing activists ‘trying to make Trump look bad,’ a new Reuters/Ipsos poll has found. Six in 10 Republicans also believe the false claim put out by Trump that November’s presidential election ‘was stolen’ from him due to widespread voter fraud.”

Seriously? Half of Republicans, who presumably saw the videos of hundreds of StormTrumpers assaulting the seat of American democracy, climbing walls, busting down doors, breaking windows, vandalizing property, chanting death threats, and physically attacking (and killing) police officers, now believe the violent insurrection was “mostly peaceful”? What kind of brain damage is present for that conclusion to even be considered in passing?

There’s a reason that so much mass hysteria could be evident in this group of Trumpian criminals. They were lied to by both Trump and a deliberately dishonest propaganda disseminator posing as a “news” network: Fox News. Virtually every mention of the attack on Fox News excused Trump and included allusions to the mythical Antifa as the “real” perpetrators of the violence. Never mind that there was no evidence of that whatsoever and, of course, there was abundant video of what actually happened. There was, however, evidence of Trump’s collusion and planning of the Capitol melee.

For his part, Trump repeatedly incited this aberrant behavior by his cult followers, telling them just prior to the attack that “The Radical Left will destroy our Country if we let them.” During the assault Trump confessed his affection for the mob saying that “We love you.” And more recently, Trump visited with Laura Ingraham of Fox News for a bit of flagrant gaslighting wherein he claimed that “Right from the start it was zero threat [and all] hugging and kissing”

See? it was a Love-In! And except for the dead, and more than a hundred injured police officers, and the destruction of property, and the defiling of a democratic institution, it was celebratory occasion that Trump’s Klan will long recall with pride.

Fortunately, the Reuters poll also found that 59% of all Americans hold trump responsible. And eight in 10 Democrats and six in 10 independents “reject the false claims that the Capitol siege was ‘mostly peaceful’ or it was staged by left-wing protestors.” Nevertheless, the psychotically delusional beliefs of the GOP and the Trumpsters is a worrisome trend. And we must remain vigilant to prevent future episodes of violence and rightist mob offensives. No doubt Trump and Fox News are already plotting them.

King of Cancel Culture Trump Clings to ‘Big Lie’ in Nasty Easter Message

Despite having been unceremoniously evicted from the White House five months ago, Donald Trump continues to beg for relevancy from the confines of his Mar-a-Lago bunker. Never mind that he is the subject of numerous criminal and civil lawsuits. Or that he was just exposed for having defrauded his own supporters (again).

Donald Trump Walking the Plank

His plaintive yelps coming in the form of angry, inarticulate press releases since he has been banished from Twitter and other social media. The latest outburst from Trumplandia is a blasphemous Easter bulletin announcing his displeasure with what he calls “the Radical Left Democrats” and their “WOKE CANCEL CULTURE,” whatever that means. Trump’s communique to his glassy-eyed cult disciples is a call to arms for Republicans to do precisely the same thing for which he is condemning Democrats:

“For years the Radical Left Democrats have played dirty by boycotting products when anything from that company is done or stated in any way that offends them. Now they are going big time with WOKE CANCEL CULTURE and our sacred elections.”

The irony of Trump whining about Democrats engaging in boycotts is hysterical. Trump has called for boycotts of too many American companies to count. He is, in fact, the King of Cancel Culture, boycotting dozens of companies “when anything from that company is done or stated in any way that offends” him personally. That includes his loyal Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News, along with Harley-Davidson, CNN, Apple, Macy’s, Univision, Mexico, HBO, Rolling Stone, and AT&T. Now he’s adding some more names to his enemies list:

“It is finally time for Republicans and Conservatives to fight back—we have more people than they do—by far! Boycott Major League Baseball, Coca-Cola, Delta Airlines, JPMorgan Chase, ViacomCBS, Citigroup, Cisco, UPS, and Merck. Don’t go back to their products until they relent. We can play the game better than them. They didn’t even get approval of State Legislatures, which is mandated under the U.S. Constitution.”

First of all, if Trump had more people than the Democrats, he wouldn’t be hiding out in Palm Beach firing off hostile missives in celebration of Easter, the day commemorating the resurrection of his alleged lord and savior. Secondly, there is nothing in the Constitution that mandates the approval of state legislatures (or election officials, which is what the former Idiot-in-Chief meant) to conduct business as they see fit in accordance with the law. As usual, Trump is just making stuff up.

It’s also notable that Trump’s amended enemies list is way too short to encompass all the companies that have expressed opposition to the GOP election tampering campaign. The Washington Post reports that…

“Nearly 200 companies on Friday joined in a strong statement against proposals that threaten to restrict voting access in dozens of states, in a further sign of corporate willingness to speak out on social justice issues.”

Along with the companies Trump called out above, others include Dow, Estee Lauder, Hewlett-Packard, Levi’s, Lyft, Uber, Morningstar, Paypal, Salesforce, Under Armour, Univision, and nearly 200 more. Will Trump insist that his flock boycott all of them? Undeterred by reality, Trump went on to rant that…

“They rigged and stole our 2020 Presidential Election, which we won by a landslide, and then, on top of that, boycott and scare companies into submission. Never submit, never give up! The Radical Left will destroy our Country if we let them. We will not become a Socialist Nation. Happy Easter!”

So Trump is still peddling the “Big Lie” that the election was “stolen” from him. And he’s still framing it in the way that incited a deadly insurrection on Capitol Hill, with pleas to “never submit” because “they” will “destroy our Country.”

To be clear, the voter suppression legislation in Georgia, Texas and 40+ other states has nothing to do with election integrity. Not a single proponent of those bills can cite any voting irregularities beyond minor infractions, and most of those were by Republicans.

It is no coincidence that this surge of suppressive legislating came immediately following an election that saw Democrats win the presidency and a majority in the Senate. That election was certified by all 50 states, including those with Republican leadership, some of whom are sponsors of these bogus bills.

So the motivation for this isn’t securing elections. It’s manipulating them to quash Democratic voters and, indeed, democracy. And if Trump gets his way there will be more seditious uprisings, more pain and suffering, and more disseminations of purposefully inflammatory rhetoric aimed at inciting riots on behalf of the traitorous cretin that American just cast out.

GRIFTER EXPOSED: Trump Campaign Scam Defrauds Hundreds of His Supporters

No one who has paid attention to the career of Donald Trump will be surprised to learn that he is a shameless, recidivist con artist, callously deceiving and stealing from the very people on whose behalf he purports to be fighting. That’s been true throughout his presidency and for decades prior.

Trump Baby on Cash Pile

Now the New York Times has published an extensive exposé on the corrupt and underhanded practices of Trump’s crooked campaign donation operation. The article goes into great depth documenting the deliberate deception that Trump and his Republican confederates engaged in to fleece his glassy-eyed cult disciples.

The article begins with a heartbreaking example of Trump’s cold-blooded greed:

“Stacy Blatt was in hospice care last September listening to Rush Limbaugh’s dire warnings about how badly Donald J. Trump’s campaign needed money when he went online and chipped in everything he could: $500.

“It was a big sum for a 63-year-old battling cancer and living in Kansas City on less than $1,000 per month. But that single contribution — federal records show it was his first ever — quickly multiplied. Another $500 was withdrawn the next day, then $500 the next week and every week through mid-October, without his knowledge — until Mr. Blatt’s bank account had been depleted and frozen.”

However…

“…what the Blatts believed was duplicity was actually an intentional scheme to boost revenues by the Trump campaign and the for-profit company that processed its online donations, WinRed. Facing a cash crunch and getting badly outspent by the Democrats, the campaign had begun last September to set up recurring donations by default for online donors, for every week until the election.”

The form for making contributions to Trump’s campaign featured a pre-checked box that donors would have to find and uncheck in order to opt out of recurring donations. And even if they saw it, they would have to read through a confusing, fine-print disclaimer to understand the terms.

Consequently, hundreds (thousands?) of donors were purposefully misled. The campaign would eventually be forced to “issue more than 530,000 refunds worth $64.3 million to online donors.” But even considering the inconvenience of refunding so many donors, Trump’s scam enabled him to benefit from what were effectively “interest-free loans from unwitting supporters.” He was even able to “use tens of millions of dollars he raised after the election […] to help cover the refunds he owed.”

The for-profit organization that collected Trump’s donations, WinRed, operates differently from other campaign donation sites such as the Democratic-aligned firm, ActBlue, which is non-profit. According to the Times, WinRed “makes its money by taking 30 cents of every donation, plus 3.8 percent of the amount given. […] WinRed even made money off donations that were refunded by keeping the fees it charged on each transaction.”

This sort of thievery is entirely on brand for Trump. It is, in fact, the hallmark of his unethical business life. It’s certain to remind people of his fraudulent Trump University, his phony, egocentric charity, his blatant lies about raising funds for veterans, and his bankrupt casinos.

And that doesn’t even begin to address the rampant and brazen treachery of his brief political life. Those lies include Trump’s deranged insistence that he won the 2020 presidential election, which he continues to this day. It was that Big Lie that led to Trump inciting the deadly Capitol riots and insurrection that he recently claimed was all “hugs and kisses” and “posed zero threat.” And worst of all, was Trump’s deliberate dishonesty, negligence, and incompetence, with regard to the COVID pandemic that resulted in the deaths of more than half a million Americans. And for all of that and more, there needs to be a moral and legal reckoning for Trump and all of his enablers.

Disgusting Fox News Hacks Compare Waiting in Line for Hours to Vote to … What?

Desperate Republicans in Georgia, having recently lost two Senate seats and the presidency to Democrats, just passed a blatantly discriminatory law whose unambiguous purpose is to suppress votes. The law will impact predominantly people of color, the poor, workers, and students.

Fox News Friends

This is a backdoor admission that the GOP can’t appeal to the concerns of voters with their policies, so they resort to obstructing citizens from exercising their Constitutional right to vote. And naturally, Fox News is supporting this abhorrent electoral tactic. On Thursday morning the “Curvy Couch” potatoes of Fox and Friends addressed the subject, focusing on a bizarre provision in the law that prohibits anyone from offering food or water to voters waiting in line to cast their ballots.

For the record, it is Republicans who created the mess that has resulted in voters having wait for many hours to vote. The GOP made it more difficult to vote by mail. They closed precincts, but only in districts that tended to vote Democratic. The precincts that remained open were provided fewer staffers and voting machines. The results were predictable delays intended to discourage people from voting at all. This new legislation is intended to make matters even worse.

In light of that, Fox News saw fit to mock the problem that obviously isn’t affecting any of them or their privileged class. It’s an exercise in brazen callousness and elitism:

Ainsley Earhardt: The water argument is what cracks me up. Because what line have you stood in – If you go to Yankee Stadium and stand in line to get a ticket, do they serve you water? Do you care?
Brian Kilmeade: Just hot towels. That all you get.
Steve Doocy: I have been voting for over forty years and I have never thought to myself, “Okay, I have to go vote today. Will they have snacks?”

Whereupon everybody shares a hearty laugh at the hardships of people that they can’t possibly relate to. The comparison to waiting in line for Yankees tickets is painfully ludicrous. Let’s set aside the fact that you buy those tickets on line. More to the point, attending a baseball game isn’t a constitutionally protected activity, the results of which will impact the lives of you, your family and your community for decades.

Doocy’s observation that he has never had to think about “snacks” when going to vote only reinforces how out of touch he is with the problems of people not in his upper crust socioeconomic class. Obviously he hasn’t had to worry about that. In his neighborhood they have plenty of polling places, and he can take whatever time he needs to go cast his vote.

The fact that these three hacks find this dilemma so hysterical is downright nauseating. They should be forced to vote in precincts that have the disadvantages that low income citizens have to deal with. They aren’t pampered TV personalities complaining about not having snacks for an hour or two. They are often elderly voters stuck in an outdoor line in November for six, eight, ten hours, or more.

Finally, returning to the comparison to getting Yankees tickets, these cretins forget that waiting for sporting events is actually a cultural activity that famously includes elaborate snacks and refreshments provided in tailgate parties. That’s still legal. But giving food or water to oppressed citizens who only want to participate in their democracy is now against the law in Georgia.

DUH! GOP Tweet Admits that ‘The Republican Party Isn’t Going Anywhere’

The Republican Party is unarguably mired in a historically deep trench of disinformation, division, and cultist devotion to a deranged former reality TV game show host. They are at each others throats, voting to censure those deemed to be insufficiently loyal to Dear Leader, Donald Trump, as he conspires to skim donations from the Party to his own coffers.

Donald Trump, Republican, GOP

In the midst of this intra-party uncivil war, the party honchos are struggling to hold things together despite their pitiful incompetence. Remember, this is the party that chose to keep the leaders who presided over losing the House, the Senate, and the presidency. So it shouldn’t surprise anyone when the Party’s official Twitter account unloads this pathetic cry for help:

The video in that tweet features a brief exchange from President Biden’s press conference that Fox news found so appalling and boring. the GOP was so shaken by that, they felt compelled to respond. It provided nothing particularly newsworthy, other than a snarky quip by Biden about the GOP’s tenuous status as a political entity:

Reporter: Do you believe you’ll be running against former president Trump [in 2024]?”
Biden: Oh come on. I don’t even think about … I have no idea. I have no idea there will be a Republican Party. Do you?”

The GOP’s official response to that was the inadvertently honest observation that “The Republican Party isn’t going anywhere.”

Well, DUH! It’s been painfully obvious to most of the sentient world for the last five years (many more to be precise) that the GOP is going nowhere. They have been hijacked by an intellectually vacant television celebrity who pretended to be a billionaire, but who’s only real asset was his skill at running con games. And their agenda utterly ignores the needs of the American people, focusing instead on more guns and less voting.

Now the GOP (Groveling Old Parasites) are bowing down to Trump and making pilgrimages to Mar-a-Lago to kiss his ring. They are scared witless of angering him for fear that he might aim one his illiterate insults at them, or sic his cult followers on them during a GOP primary. It’s a display of cowardice unseen before in American politics.

Meanwhile, Biden’s throwaway line about the the GOP’s future has tied the party up in knots. But they utterly missed the more substantive remarks Biden made immediately afterward. And that’s the part that truly devastates the core raison d’etre of the Republican Party. He began by observing the hypocrisy of the GOP. “My Republican friends,” Biden noticed, “were worried about … the act that we just passed which puts money in people’s pockets.” He was referring to the popular American Rescue Plan that not a single Republican voted for. Biden continued…

“Did you hear them complain when they passed close to a $2 trillion Trump tax cut — 83 percent going to the top 1 percent? Did you hear them talk about that all? I love the fact that they’ve found this whole idea of concern about the federal budget. It’s kind of amazing.

“When the federal budget is saving people’s lives, they don’t think it’s such a good idea. When the federal budget is feathering the nest of the wealthiest Americans — 90 of the Fortune 500 companies making billions of dollars not paying a cent in taxes; reducing taxes to the point that people who are making — you know, if you’re a husband and wife, a schoolteacher and a cop, you’re paying at a higher rate than the average person making a billion dollars a year is — something is wrong. Their newfound concern.”

So the GOP ignored Biden’s eloquent criticism of the their elitist disregard for the welfare of the American people, and his attack on their flaming hypocrisy. But they latched onto his light-hearted recognition that the future is unknowable. Particularly for a party that has sold its soul to a carnival barking grifter. And that’s the sort of attention to detail that the GOP thinks will secure them victories in 2022 and 2024. Which is great news for the Democratic party.

Dominion Voting Systems Files $1.6 Billion Defamation Lawsuit Against Fox News

The bill is coming due for Fox News for having recklessly, repeatedly, and maliciously spread flagrant falsehoods to support Donald Trump’s Big Lie over election fraud. Dominion Voting Systems has just announced that they are suing Fox for defamation to the tune of $1.6 billion.

Fox News Sad

The Associated Press is reporting that Dominion’s case argues that “the cable news giant falsely claimed in an effort to boost faltering ratings that the voting company had rigged the 2020 election.” The story goes on to note that…

“The lawsuit is part of a growing body of legal action filed by the voting company and other targets of misleading, false and bizarre claims spread by President Donald Trump and his allies in the aftermath of Trump’s election loss to Joe Biden. Those claims helped spur on rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 in a violent siege that left five people dead, including a police officer. The siege led to Trump’s historic second impeachment.”

This lawsuit against Fox News follows on to Dominion’s previously announced suits against Trump attorneys Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell (who is adopting the Tucker Carlson Defense), as well as Mike Lindell, the infamous MyPillow Guy. And Fox News has also been sued by Smartmatic, a voting software services company that alleges similar defamation in Fox’s election reporting.

Fox News is going to have a hard time defending itself from these lawsuits. There is an abundance of evidence that supports the claims, and most of it consists of video from Fox News itself. Their program hosts and guests relentlessly made baseless charges against Dominion on the air. Media Matters has documented some of the more egregious episodes:

  • Dominion Was Used to Rig the Election for President Joe Biden and the Company Has Done This Before
  • Dominion Is of Venezuelan Origin, Created at the Request of Hugo Chavez to Alter Election Results in Furtherance of an International Conspiracy
  • Dominion’s Scheme Was Run by a Deputy of George Soros
  • Kickbacks Were Paid to State Officials — Including Those in Georgia – to Utilize Dominion Machines
  • Smartmatic Owns Dominion and Its Software Is Embedded in Dominion Machines
  • Dominion Machines Are Unreliable and Cannot Be Truly Audited

This video has a summary of some of just a few of the Fox News references to Dominion Voting Systems:

In addition to this lawsuit, Dominion’s lawyers say that they are continuing to explore legal options that could include naming Fox News hosts such as Sean Hannity, Lou Dobbs, Jeanine Pirro, Maria Bartiromo, and more. [NOTE: Dominion has added Newsmax and One America News Network (OAN) as defendants] The list of defendants could even extend to include Trump. Which would only be fair. There must be consequences for knowingly disseminating slanderous lies. And that is what Fox News does every day. This lawsuit should just be the first of many more to come.

UPDATE I: Trump tried to peddle his Big Lie about election fraud again on Laura Ingraham’s show Thursday night. But Ingraham cut him off. Ya think that had anything to do with this lawsuit?

UPDATE II: In April of 2023 Fox News settled this lawsuit for a whopping 3/4 of a billion dollars.

Trump Lawyer Moves to Dismiss Defamation Lawsuit Because Only Fools Would Believe Her

Let’s take a trip down memory lane all the way back to January of this year, when Dominion Voting Systems announced that it was suing Sidney Powell for $1.3 billion dollars. Powell was one of the attorneys (along with Rudy Giuliani) that Donald Trump recruited to litigate his “Big Lie” that the presidential election had been “stolen” from him.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, QAnon

Powell had made countless appearances in the press to peddle her allegations of corruption and rampant election fraud. She was among those who claimed that Dominion planted malicious software in their devices in order to switch hundreds of thousands of votes from Trump to Biden. This theory also stipulates provably false nonsense about the company’s software being developed in Venezuela with the help of the late Hugo Chavez, and votes being tabulated in Germany and Spain. None of that was true.

Now Powell has responded to the Dominion lawsuit with a motion to dismiss. However, the case she makes on her own behalf is hardly persuasive. In fact, She’s painting herself as a lying kook who can’t be trusted.

Powell’s motion to dismiss makes the remarkable claim about her own public statements that “No reasonable person would conclude that the statements were truly statements of fact.” She argued that “the language of the political arena … is often vituperative, abusive, and inexact.” Powell further argued that because the plaintiffs said her statements were “wild accusations” and “outlandish claims” that they were therefore not actionable.

Huh? That is precisely what makes them actionable. If they weren’t wild and outlandish what would be the cause to sue? Powell concludes her motion saying that…

“Such characterizations of the allegedly defamatory statements further support Defendant’s position that reasonable people would not accept such statements as fact, but view them only as claims that await testing by courts through the adversary process.”

In short, Powell’s entire defense rests on her assertion that only fools would believe her bullpucky and therefore she can’t be held liable for spreading it. She may be right in the former, but woefully wrong in the latter. The problem with arguing that “no reasonable person” would believe you is that it doesn’t exempt the likelihood that those devoid of reason will totally buy in. And there is an abundance of such people, particularly associated with Trump and his QAnon Cult.

Additionally, Powell is contradicting herself by saying that her statements are “claims that await testing by courts.” If so, then she is asserting that they are true and can’t be exempted as political rhetoric. But if it isn’t true, she is confessing that she is using the courts to pursue an action in bad faith, which could get her disbarred.

It’s notable that this is the same argument that Fox News used to escape liability for defamatory comments by Tucker Carlson. Fox’s lawyer’s successfully argued that, given his reputation, no reasonable person would take him seriously. It’s hard to argue with that. But you have to be pretty desperate and disreputable to adopt the Tucker Carlson Defense.

The damage done by purposefully misleading those millions of dimwits is extensive and quantifiable. Powell is practically making Dominion’s case by admitting that her statements were false. Her motion fails to absolve her of responsibility. Instead, she places the responsibility on those who heard her admittedly factless remarks. That’s like blaming the consumers of Snake Oil for not realizing that the Snake Oil salesman was a con artist. In the end, the Snake Oil salesman is going to jail.
