How Horrible Was CNN’s Lie-Riddled Trump Town Hall? Let’s See What CNN Has to Say About It

The aftermath of the ill-conceived CNN town hall with Donald Trump affirmed the most pessimistic projections offered beforehand. Trump was himself. That is to say, he was a dishonest, hostile, bloviating bully. Is there any reason that CNN should have expected anything else?

Trump Lies

The town hall was bad idea from the start. A reputable news enterprise would never provide such a forum to a candidate credibly charged with sexual abuse, tax fraud, election interference, and seditious conspiracy. Yet somehow CNN was comfortable with presenting this televised Trump rally, complete with an audience of “Republicans and undeclared voters who plan to vote in the 2024 GOP presidential primary.” You have to wonder precisely what CNN offered Trump to get him to agree to appear on a network that he regards as “fake news” and insists that nobody watches.

SEE THIS: Trump Spills that CNN Made Him ‘a Deal I Couldn’t Refuse’ to Get Him to Do Their Town Hall

Predictably, the program failed on every level. It was neither informative on Trump’s policies, nor revealing of his principles. It merely rehashed everything that everyone already knows about him. The moderator, Kaitlan Collins, made some attempts to fact-check Trump, but not nearly enough. It was so useless that even some of CNN’s anchors and analysts were repulsed. Immediately following the town hall, Jake Tapper gave a scathing summation that concluded that “We don’t have enough time to fact-check every lie he told.” So why air it in the first place?

CNN’s media correspondent, Oliver Darcy, tweeted that “It’s hard to see how America was served by the spectacle of lies that aired on CNN Wednesday evening.” And that was just the beginning. CNN published an article enumerating 8 takeaways from Trump’s CNN town hall.” And each one affirmed Trump’s unfitness for office. The article began by noting that Trump…

“…showed on Wednesday night that he is very much the same person Americans came to know in 2016, throughout his four years in office, and in the aftermath of his 2020 election defeat. […] When he wasn’t calling women names, airing old grievances or attempting to rewrite history, the former president largely dodged questions and follow-up inquiries [and that] Unsurprisingly, the mostly Trump-loyal audience lapped it up.”

Considering that analysis from CNN itself, what was the point of the whole thing? It didn’t advance the public’s knowledge or ability to assess Trump’s candidacy. The 8 takeaways were all examples of Trump’s ignorance and artifice. Let’s explore them little deeper…

  • “Trump makes dismissive comments about [E. Jean] Carroll.”
Trump “denied the accusations and again said he had never met Carroll. [and the audience] laughed at his jokes and other dismissive comments about Carroll.” He also called her a “whack job,” defaming her anew.
  • “Trump says GOP should be willing to blow up debt ceiling.”
Trump “insisted that default would be preferable to a result that doesn’t stop the government ‘spending money like drunken sailors.'” He also laughed off his hypocrisy about opposing using the debt ceiling as a negotiating wedge while he was president.
  • “Trump is vague on federal abortion ban.”
“Trump repeatedly ducked questions about whether he would sign into law a federal abortion ban, as well as after how many weeks into a pregnancy abortion should be made illegal.” He also lied that Democrats support infanticide.
  • “Trump doesn’t say if he would back Ukraine in war with Russia.”
“Trump refused to say whether he wanted Ukraine to prevail in its war with invading Russia.” He also refused to criticize his BFF, Vladimir Putin, for the war crimes of slaughtering civilians.
  • “Trump says he’d pardon January 6 rioters.”
“Trump demonstrated no remorse for his role in the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol [and] said he was ‘inclined to pardon’ many of the pro-Trump rioters who were convicted for their roles in the attack on the Capitol.” He also insulted law enforcement officers who defended the Capitol as “thugs.”
  • “Trump suggests family separation immigration policy could return.”
Trump said “When you say to a family that if you come, we’re going to break you up, they don’t come.” He also declined to take responsibility for destroying families.
  • “Trump repeats election fraud lies.”
“Trump repeated his lies about widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election [and] would not commit to accepting the results of the 2024 presidential election.” He also hyped debunked conspiracy theories about stuffed ballot boxes and fraudulent votes.
  • “Trump uses same name-calling tactics.”
“When Collins pressed Trump about documents he took from the White House, he said: ‘You’re a nasty person.'” He also repeated his infantile “crazy” Nancy Pelosi insult.

Not mentioned in the article was a particularly disturbing response by Trump with regard the classified documents that he stole and hoarded at Mar-a-Lago. He offered ludicrous misrepresentations of the Presidential Records Act to justify his security breach. Responding to Collins’ inquiry as to whether he had shown the documents to anyone, Trump replied, “Not really.” Which is a long ways from “No.” He elaborated that he “had the right” to show them to anyone he wanted to. This is a near confession to criminal espionage.

RELATED: On Fox News Trump Confesses that He Stole Classified Documents, Despite Hannity’s Coaching

A good indicator of how awful the town hall was is who celebrated the event afterwards. Media Matters collected the rave reviews from elated right-wingers. And on his floundering Twitter scam, Truth Social, Trump himself expressed his delight with the appearance, along with 18 posts from his ecstatic supporters who all considered it a triumph. Congratulations, CNN.

However, it wasn’t only CNN who thought that this noxious affair was a disgraceful embarrassment to journalism. The Hollywood Reported compiled reactions from a broad array of media analysts who concurred that the network “failed journalism and our country.” And there are more critiques here via Media Matters. Even President Biden weighed in saying pointedly that “It’s simple, folks. Do you want four more years of that?”

UPDATE: CNN’s ratings for the town hall were unimpressive. They drew about 3 million viewers, which would be an average night for Fox News primetime, and not uncommon or a special news event on CNN. But those viewers are unlikely to stick around. If they came for Trump they are predisposed to hate CNN, and will be further put off by Collins’ questioning of him.

Trump is Gonna Freak Out: His Name Was Uttered Only Once By Biden in His WHCD Speech

One of the most remarkable things about the post-Trump era is that, despite his humiliating electoral loss, his dead weight impact on the Republican Party, and his unprecedented legal entanglements, investigations, and indictments, Donald Trump refuses to go away.

Donald Trump, Joe Biden

The continuing presence of the Mar-All-Ego narcissist persists in haunting the American political scene, even though he has been resolutely rejected, even by Republicans.

RELATED: Americans are Unsatisfied with Politics in General, But Specifically Despise Trump and the GOP

No other former president has imposed himself on the nation like this following their term, especially if they suffered a decisive defeat for reelection. But Trump defies the norms in so many ways. Most significantly, he simply cannot stand it when he is not the center of attention. As a result, he will exploit any available measures to thrust himself into the spotlight to steal whatever focus he can from more important matters. And when he’s unsuccessful at that, it generally manifests as petty jealously and outrage.

Consequently, we can expect to see Trump’s anger erupt over his near exclusion from the remarks made at the White House Correspondents Dinner in Washington, D.C. Sunday night. President Biden gave an entertaining presentation that was at times profound and hysterical. But to Trump’s dismay, Biden only referenced the twice impeached, indicted, former reality TV game show host, one time. And even that was a throw away line about their common ages.

Referring to reports in the New York Times, the President noted a headline saying that “Biden’s advanced age is a big issue. Trump’s, however, is not.” That was just one of the jokes Biden made about his age. The only other reference to Trump didn’t mention his name at all. Alluding to Trump’s Stormy Daniels payoff, Biden said that comedian keynoter, Roy Wood, Jr. “offered me 10 bucks if I’d keep it under 10 minutes. That’s a switch, a President being offered hush money.”

That’s it. Nothing more about Trump was said in Biden’s address. However, while almost entirely ignoring Trump, Biden did get some digs in at Trump’s Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News. In addition to noting that Tucker Carlson – who was unceremoniously fired by Fox – is “finished,” Biden made these salient points (video below)

  • It’s great the cable news networks are here tonight. MSNBC owned by NBC Universal. Fox News owned by Dominion Voting Systems.
  • With that $787 million settlement, they [Fox] are here because they couldn’t say no to a free meal.
  • I’d call Fox honest, fair, and truthful, but then I could be sued for defamation.
  • [And on a more serious note] A poison is running through our democracy and parts of the extreme press. The truth buried by lies, and lies living on as truth. Lies told for profit and power. Lies of conspiracy and malice repeated over and over again, designed to generate a cycle of anger, hate, and even violence.

SEE THIS: The Fox News 3/4 Billion Dollar Dominion Defamation Settlement is Also a Judgment Against Trump

As of this writing, Trump hasn’t said anything about his absence from the festivities. He may still be nursing his despair or fueling his fury. But he is undoubtedly vexed. It’s possible he might just express it by lashing out at something unrelated to change the subject. He has already posted 48 comments on his floundering Twitter ripoff, Truth Social this morning. Most of them about his most feared opponent, Ron DeSantis. So he is apparently trying to flood the zone with bullshit as he weeps over being left out.

Trump Floats the Stupidest Lie About Biden and Intel Documents: ‘Maybe He Was the Leaker’

Recent reports of the leaking of intelligence documents online have caused serious concerns over the security of classified information. And as with nearly every matter of concern in politics, Donald Trump can be counted on to make things, not just worse, but bizarre.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump WTF

The concerns over classified documents were elevated to unprecedented levels when it was revealed that Trump had stolen hundreds of such documents and hoarded them at his Palm Beach hotel/home. Even after multiple demands, and a subpoena, Trump refused to return the documents and lied about having them.

RELATGED: On Fox News Trump Confesses that He Stole Classified Documents, Despite Hannity’s Coaching

The latest leaking scandal is completely unrelated to Trump’s document hoarding at Mar-a-Lago, but that doesn’t stop him from from drawing a preposterous parallel. On his pitifully failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, Trump posted a comment that included an entirely baseless allegation directed at President Biden…

“The worst leaks of ‘Intelligence’ in U.S. history. Our Country has never been so embarrassed, and yet they come after ‘Trump’ on their old and tired Boxes Hoax. The Special “Prosecutor” should investigate Biden, maybe he was the leaker? Nothing would surprise me about this group!”

There is a massive quantity of malarkey in that brief outburst. First of all, there have been plenty of worse intelligence leaks in U.S. history. But given his notorious ignorance, we can’t expect Trump to have any knowledge of history. In Trump’s diseased mind, whatever he is obsessing over at the moment are always atrocities at “levels that have never been seen before.”

What’s more, Trump seems to think that law enforcement isn’t capable of simultaneously investigating this new leak and his own criminal theft and obstruction of justice – what he dismissively calls the “Boxes Hoax”. And it’s cute that the only words for which he uses quotes are “intelligence” and “Trump,” as if he’s using those words sarcastically.

However, the most ridiculous part of his comment was where he accuses President Biden of being the leaker. There is, of course, no hint of that having any connection to reality. It is merely a wild, and typically infantile, swing by Trump in a futile attempt to smear the President and deflect attention from his own crimes.

Furthermore, Trump’s accusation doesn’t even make sense. He begins by saying that “Our country has never been so embarrassed.” So why would Biden leak information that could only result in embarrassment to the nation generally, and to him personally? Trump doesn’t bother to explain his “logic,” or lack thereof.

For the record, authorities have already identified a suspect in the latest leaking episode. He is a 21-year-old member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard. And since the documents contain information that could harm the war effort in Ukraine, it’s more likely that the leaker was aligned politically with Trump and the pro-Putin faction of the Republican Party.

Coincidentally (or perhaps not), Trump’s charge comes the day after the Justice Department revealed that Trump is being investigated for possibly showing classified materials to random visitors to Mar-a-Lago…

“Multiple witnesses were asked whether former President Donald Trump showed them a map containing classified information that he took from the White House when he left office, as part of a U.S. Justice Department investigation.”

The potential that Trump proudly showed off the classified documents that he stole has always been suspected by intelligence experts. He never does anything that can’t produce an immediate benefit for his finances or his image. And as this latest comment proves, Trump never misses an opportunity to viciously and baselessly malign his enemies. But it also proves that he is spectacularly stupid in the way that he does that.

Fox News Wonders What Horror Biden Is Up To By Communicating With Young People On Social Media

The Biden administration is reported to be considering expanding its outreach to younger Americans by holding briefings for popular social media personalities, known as “influencers.” These briefings would be separate from those held in the White House Briefing Room for conventional media.

Fox News, Joe Biden

Naturally, any new idea floated by President Biden or the Democratic Party is immediately pounced on by Fox News as something nefarious with an ulterior motive that Fox portrays as sinister. In this case, Fox News is very concerned that Biden is trying to communicate effectively with young people, Something that Fox News is particularly bad at.

RELATED: Fox News Says Biden is ‘Compromised’ Because He Revoked Trump’s Non-Existent Ban on TikTok

To counter this malicious method of messaging, Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum invited the Republican governor if Iowa, Kim Reynolds, to discuss the rumors. MacCallum is regarded by Fox to be one of their alleged “news” reporters. That has never been true, and she demonstrates why in this exchange with the Governor…

MacCallum: I think a lot of viewers, a lot of people, a lot of adults, don’t really understand the influence of TicTok. These folks on TikTok have huge followings. They tell people what they should eat, what they should buy, what they should wear, and more powerfully I think in the midterms, who they should vote for and what issues should be important to them regardless of any fact check going on what they’re saying. So how seriously do you take this is if the Biden team decides to really implement, use these people in 2024?
Reynolds: I think the hypocrisy that continues out of the Biden administration, and with Democrats across this country, is just ridiculous.

Let’s set aside Reynolds’ response that totally avoids the question in order to fling the word “hypocrisy” around without any relationship to the subject. MacCallum’s concerns about social media “influencers” sound awfully familiar. Can you think of any other media enterprise that tells people how they should eat, dress, and vote?

If you said “Fox News,” congratulations. You’re not brain dead. Fox News also has a huge following (although mostly seniors), and regularly complains about what they call “woke” companies that you should refrain from patronizing. For instance, you must not eat M&Ms, or drink Bud Light, or wear Nikes, or visit Disneyland. And they spend 90% of their airtime advising their glassy-eyed audience to vote only for certified conservative Republicans.

Fox also tells their viewers what issues are important, or by omission, which are not. Recently Fox News buried the story of the Texas judge who ruled against the FDA approval of the abortion pill. From April 7 through 10, Fox provided all of 27 minutes to the story, while MSNBC and CNN each had seven hours of reporting. Likewise, Fox News minimally reported on Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of undisclosed gifts from a right-wing billionaire.

RELATED: Fox News Blacks Out Story of Clarence Thomas Secretly Taking Luxury Gifts From GOP Billionaire

The reports that the Biden White House is planning on having dedicated briefings for social media influencers are greatly exaggerated. White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre declined to confirm any such plans. But she did note that, informally, it’s “something that we do all the time, from the President on down, is talk to influencers and try to meet the American people where they are to reach them in a different way.” As examples, there were such briefings last year on the war in Ukraine, and on the Inflation Reduction Act.

There are good reasons to implement an outreach program that caters to social media. Studies show that “Nearly 40% of Gen Z prefers TikTok and Instagram over Google Search, according to Google’s own internal data.” And it makes sense to try to reach citizens where they actually are. And for younger citizens who are wary of mainstream media, that’s on platforms like TikTok. But, not surprisingly, that’s too difficult a concept for the fogies on Fox to grasp. So they condemn it. Even though Donald Trump has his own pitifully failing social media platform.

WTF? Flaming Liar Tucker Carlson Yaps that Gavin Newsom’s ‘Words Have No Connection to Reality’

The past few weeks have been among the most devastating for Fox News as damning revelations about the flagrant dishonesty at the ultra-rightist network have been publicly exposed. Private internal communications by Fox News executives and hosts were revealed in the course of the billion dollar defamation lawsuit against Fox by Dominion Voting systems.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Bullshit Factory

Perhaps the most damaging disclosures were those wherein Fox’s top primetime host, Tucker Carlson, was found to be a shameless liar who placed his greed and ratings above his obligation to be truthful. The texts and emails that Dominion acquired showed that Carlson, and many of his Fox colleagues, presented themselves to their glassy-eyed viewers as unflinchingly loyal supporters of Donald Trump, while revealing their “passionate hatred” for him privately.

RELATED: In Dominion v Fox News, Network Cries ‘We Can’t Make People Think We’ve Turned Against Trump’

The evidence that Fox News deliberately defamed Dominion is rock solid. They knew that they were lying on the air all along, but did so anyway out of fear of losing viewers. Sean Hannity even admitted that he “did not believe [Trump’s election fraud lies] for one second,” while insisting to his audience that the alleged fraud was real and rampant.

All of this makes Carlson’s commentary Monday night especially disgusting. In his opening monologue, Carlson spent nearly twenty minutes maligning California Governor Gavin Newsom, who Carlson thinks could be the next Democratic candidate for president in 2024. His rant was riddled with typical right-wing lunacies such as his warped explanation for the Democrats nominating Joe Biden in 2020 because “the anti-White party picked the White guy.” Then he absurdly theorized that in 2024…

“[Y]ou would assume the party, the Democratic Party, would replace Joe Biden with someone who embodies their highest values. You imagine a trans-Black woman with a background in corporate H.R. or a Latinx drag queen with purple hair and lots of face piercings.”

A more plausible assumption would be that Carlson is abusing some pretty powerful hallucinogenic drugs. Either that or he’s eaten some rotten frozen fish sticks. Either of those mind altering experiences would still come up short in explaining what he said next. Following a clip of Newsom criticizing Ron DeSantis who, just days after the mass shooting in Nashville, signed a bill that allows people to carry concealed guns without a permit, Carlson unleashed this crackpottery…

“This is what to happens with everything about you, from your physical features to your very soul, has been altered by cosmetic surgery. Just like Joe Biden, but younger. You’ll say literally anything. Words have no connection to reality. There’s no expectation you’re describing something real. You’re merely using words as a tool to gain power. That’s terrifying. It’s dishonest to its core.”

So Carlson thinks that Newsom has had cosmetic surgery on his soul? Setting aside the idiocy of that, Carlson’s criticisms of Newsom sound strikingly familiar. That’s because they are precisely the criticisms that have been leveled at Carlson for most of his career on television. The Dominion lawsuit has proved that his “Words have no connection to reality.” And as for having “no expectation [Carlson is] describing something real,” just refer to what his own Fox News lawyers said about him in a previous lawsuit in his defense…

“[Carlson] cannot be understood to have been stating facts, but instead that he was delivering an opinion using hyperbole for effect. [and that] given Mr. Carlson’s reputation, any reasonable viewer ‘arrive[s] with an appropriate amount of skepticism’ about the statements he makes.”

SEE ALSO: Fox News Court Ruling: No ‘Reasonable Viewer’ Takes Tucker Carlson Seriously

In other words, Carlson is a notorious liar whose commentaries can be dismissed out of hand as the ravings of an unhinged, warbling whack job. And yet he has the gall to project his glaring character flaws onto others with no coherent connection. Which ironically validates what he said about Newsom, except directing it instead to himself: Carlson is “merely using words as a tool to gain power. That’s terrifying. It’s dishonest to its core.” Indeed!

Does the White House Consider Fox News a News Organization? Let’s Ask the WH Press Secretary

The question as to the legitimacy of Fox News is not one that has been difficult to answer. It was designed from the start to be a right-wing propaganda dispenser by its founders, Rupert Murdoch (an ultra-conservative newspaper baron), and Roger Ailes (a Republican media consultant). That’s not exactly a roster of reputable journalists.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Peter Doocy, Karine Jean-Pierre

Twenty-seven years later, Fox News has exceeded the aspirations of its politically prejudiced founders. In recent weeks the network has been exposed as being brazenly dishonest. Internal communications made public by Dominion Voting Systems in their defamation lawsuit against Fox reveal that its executives and hosts were telling their viewers one thing, while saying the opposite to one another in private.

RELATED: Hannity Admits in Fox News Lawsuit that ‘I Did Not Believe [Trump’s Big Lie] for One Second’

Those depositions affirm that Fox News knew very well that there was no truth to their “reporting” of fraud in the 2020 presidential election. While they were lying to their viewers on the air, they were discussing privately among themselves about the “crazy” and “idiotic” assertions that Donald Trump had actually won. They even openly disparaged Trump as dangerous confessed their personal hatred for him.

The subject of the Dominion vs Fox News lawsuit came up Friday on MSNBC’s “Alex Wagner Tonight.” Wagner prefaced a question addressing the matter during an interview with White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, by noting that “The White House has been fairly outspoken about what’s happening in certain Republican circles – specifically, what’s going on over at Fox News.” Which led to the following exchange…

Wagner: Does the White House consider Fox News a news organization?

Jean-Pierre: I’ll say this. When you look at the depositions that have been out there recently, it even states from FOX leadership that they do not see Tucker Carlson’s show as news or even truthful. That is coming from the FOX News leadership. That is not coming from me. That is coming from them.

I also would quote – I’ll paraphrase here – what the Chief of Capitol Police said. He said essentially when you watch Tucker Carlson as it relates to January 6th, it is misleading, and it is misinformation as with the conclusion of what happened on January 6th, the attacks that happened. As you saw from the President’s statement, nearly 140 officers were injured on that day. It was an attack on our democracy. It was an attack on our constitution. And you cannot whitewash that. Tucker Carlson cannot whitewash that.

Wagner: So, I’m gonna say that sort of sounds like the White House doesn’t think Fox is a news organization, but we gotta leave it there.

Jean-Pierre correctly noted that Fox News itself has defended its hosts (successfully) in defamation lawsuits by arguing that “no reasonable person” would take what they say seriously. Fox News lawyers singled out Tucker Carlson saying that

In other words, Carlson is a known liar whose commentaries can be dismissed out of hand as the ravings of a dishonest blowhard. And the evidence from the Dominion case drives that point home. The problem with this legal argument, however, is that Fox’s viewers are not remotely reasonable. Consequently, there is real and measurable harm done to millions of feeble-minded cultists.

While Jean-Pierre didn’t give a definitive yes or no answer, the gist of her response was plainly evident. Wagner got the message and rephrased it as an affirmative. Jean-Pierre smiled knowingly, and didn’t challenge Wagner’s interpretation. What’s more, the fact that Fox News is not a news organization was an opinion that the Biden administration held from the first days of its term. And they said so explicitly…

“Biden’s aides also promised not to allow outlets to use the briefings to spread baseless conspiracies. ‘We expect reporters covering the White House to operate in good faith and tell their audience the truth, and this White House will do the same. We are moving forward with that mutual understanding,’ […] ‘Organizations or individuals who traffic in conspiracy theories, propaganda and lies to spread disinformation will not be tolerated.”

If the Biden press team, as well as the White House Correspondent’s Association, were to adhere to those principles, they would be required to ban Fox News from all White House media events, including the daily briefings. And the revelations from the Dominion case provide the strongest argument yet to impose that ban.

A pseudo-news operation like Fox should not be credentialed so that it can masquerade as legitimate journalism. At the very least, they should be required to acknowledge their lies, apologize to their audience, their peers, and the nation, and take reparative action (i.e. fire Fox CEO Suzanne Scott, as well as hosts Carlson, Sean Hannity, and other offenders) before their credentials are restored. Short of that they should be shunned and banished to the pod swamps with the likes of Alex Jones and Steve Bannon.

Fox News Attacks Biden for Joining the March to Honor the 58th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday

It must getting awfully difficult for Fox News to manufacture new outrages involving President Biden. Day after day of inventing pseudo-scandals where there isn’t a hint of misconduct or controversary is clearly over-taxing the feeble minded propagandists at Fox News.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Joe Biden, Fake News

Following a weekend that featured Donald Trump speaking before the Conference of Political Ass Clowns (CPAC) also posed a challenge for Fox News in trying to surpass the Olympic-grade gormlessness of Trump and his flunkies, including Don Jr, Kari Lake, Lauren Boebert, Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and the MyPillow guy, Mike Lindell. And they couldn’t possibly come up with anything more asinine than Trump’s own preposterous proposal to award Pulitzer prizes to Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, and other Fox hacks.

RELATED: Trump Pitches Perverse Proposal to Give Pulitzer Prizes to the Loud Boys (Only) of Fox News

Consequently, the stable geniuses at Fox came up with a story line that smacks of racism and disrespect for the troubled history of civil rights in America. Pretending to cover a march in Selma, Alabama commemorating the 58th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, Fox published a story on their website titled, “Biden urged to ‘choose more worthy allies’ after marching with Sharpton in Selma.”

The article ignored entirely the importance of the event being observed, focusing instead on some pitifully weak criticisms that rested on irrelevant assertions of guilt by association. It began…

“President Biden is being urged to “choose more worthy allies” after marching with the Rev. Al Sharpton in Selma Alabama on Sunday. Biden marked the 58th anniversary of Selma’s “Bloody Sunday,” where activists chanted for voting rights as they crossed the historic Edmund Pettus Bridge.” […]

“Biden shared the stage in Selma with Sharpton, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, the Rev. William Barber II, Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Ala, and Martin Luther King III.”

The remainder of the article found some tenuous fault with Biden for “choosing” to participate in a memorial march with Revs. Sharpton and Jackson, who Fox asserted were anti-Semitic based on remarks made forty years ago.

The first problem with Fox’s framing is that they could not find any evidence of antisemitism by either of the Reverends in this century. And those that occurred decades ago were disavowed and apologized for. The second problem with Fox’s contrivance was that Biden didn’t choose the participants in this event. And surely icons of the civil rights movement like Sharpton and Jackson would be expected to participate.

What Biden was responsible for were his remarks at the event. He gave a stirring speech that promoted the advancement of civil rights and voting rights (full text here, and video below). These were topics that Fox News studiously neglected. Biden said in part…

“I come here in commemoration — not for show — Selma is a reckoning. The right to vote — the right to vote and to have your vote counted is the threshold of democracy and liberty. With it, anything is possible. Without it — without that right, nothing is possible. And this fundamental right remains under assault. The conservative Supreme Court has gutted the Voting Rights Act over the years. Since the 2020 election, a wave of states and dozens — dozens of anti-voting laws fueled by the Big Lie, and the election deniers now elected to office.” […]

“In January, I signed the Electoral Count Reform Act to protect the will of the people and the people transferring the — and the peaceful transfer of power. But we know that we must get the votes in Congress to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act. I’ve made it clear I will not let a filibuster obstruct the sacred right to vote and the right of any other right that flow from there.”

It wasn’t just Fox News who failed to honor this anniversary. After all, they literally regard equity as evil. However, the leaders of the Republican Party that Fox speaks for were also noticeably absent. That’s because they have no interest in showing respect for this part of the nation’s history. In fact, they even regard the teaching of it – i.e. Critical Race Theory – as an affront to their perverse notion of patriotism, even though they admit that they don’t know it means. And not surprisingly, this racially offensive fish stinks from the head…

Trump ‘Welcomes’ Nikki Haley Into the 2024 GOP Primary with a Furious Flurry of Feces Flinging

The first primaries for the Republican nomination for president in 2024 are still a year away. Until this week the only declared candidate was Donald Trump. That changed, however, with the announcement by former South Carolina governor, and Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, making her candidacy official.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump

Haley is likely to be joined eventually by a multitude of Trumpian toadies, including Mike Pence, Ron DeSantis, Mike Pompeo, Tim Scott, Greg Abbott, and many others too cowardly to stick their necks out at this early stage of the game. Never mind that Trump has never been weaker and more vulnerable.

RELATED: Trump Issues New Statement on His January 6th Insurrection Lies that Actually Affirms His Guilt

Shortly after Haley made her announcement, Trump pretended to be comfortable with the competition and welcomed her into the political fray. He said told Fox News that “I’m glad she’s running. I want her to follow her heart – even though she made a commitment that she would never run against who she called the greatest president of her lifetime.” He followed that up by saying “The more the merrier.”

Even worse, Trump claimed that he helped the people of South Carolina by removing her as governor and making her his ambassador to the U.N. So he’s bragging that he put someone who thinks was a terrible governor into a top diplomatic post.

But don’t let that facade of confidence fool you. The only reason Trump is outwardly supportive of Haley’s entry is that he knows she has no chance of winning and that she will only divide the anti-Trump vote, making it easier for him to prevail by a plurality.

The truth is that Trump is frightened of virtually everything. And he proved it on Thursday morning by unleashing a barrage of 28 posts in half an hour on his floundering Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, with the largest share – 9 in all – attacking Haley. Trump warned his cult followers that Haley will cut Social Security, that she flip-flopped on running against him, that she is a “born loser,” that she is somehow connected to Hillary Clinton, and that she is pro-war. It would be inaccurate to call Trump’s “welcome” a passive-aggressive attack, because there is nothing about it that is passive.

For her part, Haley took her candidate tour to Fox News on Thursday, where responded to a question about whether Trump was mentally fit to serve. She initially referred to a test that he took four years ago (that he laughably claims to have “aced”) wherein he was asked to identify an elephant and count to ten. But she went on to advocate competency tests for all elected officials, and specifically mentioned President Biden, who she said, without evidence, was asleep at the wheel.

The compulsion on the part of Republicans like Haley to malign Biden’s cognitive capacity makes it difficult for them to explain how he keeps beating Republicans electorally and legislatively, and how he has been so remarkably productive the last two years. If he’s such a mental vegetable, what does that make the GOP?

Republicans in Congress have explicitly committed themselves to asinine projects (like the formation of their “Anti-Woke” Caucus), and bitter partisanship (promising to “Make Life Hell” for Democrats). Meanwhile, Biden keeps producing results for the American people. Which leaves the GOP and Fox News with nothing to do but whine in the most pitiful manner.

New GOP Subcommittee Chair Openly Admits His Only Purpose is to ‘Make Life Hell’ for Democrats

The Republican Party’s new majority in the House of Representatives has only been in place for about a month, but already it has distinguished itself as embarrassingly inept and priggishly partisan. It took them fifteen votes to even select Kevin McCarthy as Squeaker of the House, for which Donald Trump took all the credit.

Joe Biden, Donald Trump, Congress, NBC Poll

In the few weeks of GOP rule, the Party of Trump Flunkies has utterly abandoned the divisive wedge issues that they campaigned on (i. e. inflation, abortion, immigration), and instead focused on Hunter Biden’s stolen laptop, mandatory reciting of of the Pledge of Allegiance, and arresting Twitter executives for bias against Republicans that doesn’t even exist.

On Sunday morning GOP Rep. Ben Cline visited with traitorous felon Steve Bannon, who Donald Trump pardoned after he was found guilty of defrauding donors to his phony border wall fund. During this segment Cline revealed a heretofore unknown subcommittee created by Jim Jordan, the new chair of the House Judiciary Committee. Cline described the new subcommittee to Bannon as one that would serve to harass President Biden and members of his administration who didn’t kowtow to Jordan and his fascist comrades. Cline told Bannon that…

“[Jordan] needs a bulldog at the subcommittee level to make their lives hell, quite frankly. And so he’s tasked me with that responsibility, for when the Department of Justice, or when our intelligence agencies, don’t respond, that’s when they bring me in.

“I’m the chair of this little rump subcommittee called “Responsiveness and Accountability Oversight.” And so they want me to haul these people up to the Hill, read them the riot act and try and convince them that cooperating with the Judiciary Committee is better than the alternative, which is being held in contempt.”

Really? The irony here is as thick as the bull manure that it is buried in. Bannon, who gushed that Cline’s Committee was “brilliant,” has himself been convicted of two counts of contempt of Congress after failing to comply with subpoenas. And the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection issued a criminal referral to the Justice Department for Jordan for refusing to testify. And even Squeaker McCarthy openly ignored congressional subpoenas.

Consequently, it is profoundly audacious for Jordan to impanel a committee whose purpose is to bully people into doing what he refused to do. What’s more, his committee will be pitifully impotent as a mechanism to coerce compliance, because the Biden Justice Department is unlikely to indict the victims of Jordan’s persecution.

What Jordan’s committee will succeed in doing is to waste a lot of time and taxpayer money on blatantly partisan and meritless inquisitions, while simultaneously discrediting the Republicans in Congress and sending their public approval ratings into the gutter. And for that, perhaps we should thank them.

Fox News Hosts GOP Rep and Trump ‘Doctor’ to Complain that President Biden – Looks Too Healthy?

In the days following President Biden’s eloquent and well received State of the Union address, Republicans have had to dig deep to find the sort of preposterous pseudo-scandals that they need to incite their rabid base of Deplorables. Fortunately, they have their Ministry of Propaganda, aka Fox News, to run cover for them.

Fox News, Joe Biden

Recent breaking stories on Fox News have included hard hitting journalism such as their scoop that Biden had an ice cream cone at a campaign stop, and that he dared to say that he’s optimistic about America’s future. Commence the impeachment hearings NOW!

On Friday Fox News aired a very special Hannity episode that featured an interview with Rep. Ronny Jackson of Texas. Prior to his election he was Donald Trump’s White House physician. Which he apparently thinks qualifies him to speak authoritatively about the health of Joe Biden, who he’s never examined and virulently hates. Jackson was especially suspicious about Biden’s observably robust demeanor and general fitness…

“To be honest with you, I think that there’s a medication. I want to know when he gets his physical done what medications is he actually on. Because he looks sometimes like he’s really jacked up something.”

It’s notable that Jackson is admitting that Biden appears to be in profoundly good health. It’s also notable that Jackson is profoundly disturbed by that fact. Consequently, he presumes that Biden must be on drugs, a presumption that Jackson pulled straight out of his assiduously anti-Biden predisposition.

That ingrown animosity would be bad enough, but Jackson was just getting started. He went on to diagnose Biden’s mental acuity based on his fashion accessories…

“And I want to know why he wears sunglasses all the time. Because, you know, one of the physical manifestation of Alzheimer’s and other cognitive diseases out there is that your pupils dilate and you have an issue accommodating to light. And I think there’s something going on here.”

What’s interesting about this clip is that, while Jackson is asserting that Biden “wears sunglasses all the time,” the accompanying video shows exactly the opposite. Biden is not wearing sunglasses in any of it. So Fox News couldn’t even find any b-roll of Biden to support Jackson’s ludicrous claims.

To be sure, Biden has posed for some photographs looking dapper in his Aviators, while cruising in his Corvette. But by far, most of his public appearances are sans sunglasses. Trump, on the other hand, must be the picture of health because he never wears sunglasses, even when looking straight into a solar eclipse.

The ludicrous diagnoses of Biden by Jackson are consistent with his reputation for bizarre medical analysis. As Trump’s White House doctor Jackson produced some laughably far-fetched findings as to Trump’s health. To begin with, he made the visibly absurd contention that Trump is 6’3″ and weighs 236 pounds. And following one of his physicals, Jackson gushed that Trump “has incredible genes” and “might live to be 200 years old,” despite his obesity, junk food diet, and aversion to exercise. And then there was the time that Jackson unleashed this malarkey…

“Rep. Ronny Jackson says that Biden should be removed from office after calling Pete Doocy a “stupid SOB,” since it proves that he is cognitively unfit to be president.”

Trump has praised Jackson, both as a congressman and a doctor. He was especially proud of the cognitive test that “Doc Ronny” gave him that allegedly proved that he was mentally competent. That was the test wherein Trump was able to correctly identify an elephant from a picture, and recall five words (person, woman, man, camera, tv). He couldn’t even think of five words that weren’t immediately around him at the time. But to Jackson, it’s Biden who is mentally and physically failing because he looks too healthy?
