Tucker Carlson of Fox News Says Biden Chose Ketanji Brown Jackson to ‘Destroy’ the Supreme Court

Cementing his role as Fox News Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson has delivered a nauseatingly bigoted monologue about President Biden’s nominee for the Supreme Court, Ketanji Brown Jackson. This comes just a few weeks after his frantic rant against the very notion of nominating a Black woman. While most of the nation’s credible legal analysts have acknowledged Judge Jackson’s credentials and experience, Carlson chose to malign and insult both her and the President.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Klan

On Friday’s episode of Carlson’s white-wing program, he engaged in an extended harangue against Biden’s campaign promise to nominate the first Black woman to the high court. In Carlson’s Euro-centric world, it is unthinkable to want to correct more than two hundred years of discrimination. So he lashed out at Biden for trying to “undermine” America’s institutions:

“Let’s say you really didn’t care about the country you lead. Let’s say you wanted to humiliate and degrade it and undermine its ancient institutions. What would you do? Well, you might take the single most important appointed position in the entire government and announce in public that you are filling that position on the basis of appearance. Not on the basis of skill or wisdom or fealty to the founding documents of the United States, but on the basis of the way the person looks.”

So in Carlson’s perverse view, Jackson is a nominee that would humiliate and degrade the Court. And, make no mistake, he’s basing that strictly on the way she looks. For the record, Biden did not nominate Jackson solely on the basis of appearance. He selected her because she is eminently qualified and deserving. And his choice was no more inappropriate than Ronald Reagan’s, when he promised to nominate the first woman.

Carlson doesn’t think it’s possible to find such a woman within the Black community. He thinks that doing so “would send a very clear message that you don’t like the country you run.” That’s rich coming from someone who has demonstrated his own hatred for America and love for Vladimir Putin and other American enemies. But he wasn’t finished with his hateful histrionics:

Now maybe she’s great, that’s not the point. The point is she was picked because of how she looks, so what does that tell you, not about the nominee, but about Joe Biden? It tells you that he is absolutely happy to defile a system built by other people over hundreds of years, that is the best system in the history of the world, and he is happy to destroy it. Doesn’t care at all.

So according to Carlson, Jackson would “defile” and even “destroy” the Supreme Court. But “maybe she’s great”? He went on to say that Jackson “isn’t much of a jurist. She’s not simply ignorant of the law, she is a political activist.” He complained that she could rule on a case upholding affirmative action at Harvard, asking “Do you want to live in that country? Most people don’t.”

Actually, most people do. Carlson cited part of a Fox News poll that found that 57% of voters said it’s “inappropriate” for the President to consider “only” African American women for the Court. What he left out from the same poll is that 63% supported Biden choosing a Black woman. Fox News reported on their poll saying that…

“Majorities are favorable across the board, with Democrats (91%), Black voters (81%), Hispanic voters (71%), voters under age 30 (70%) and women (65%) the most receptive.”

Notice that Fox News left out of their own reporting on their own poll that only 39% of Republicans supported the nomination of a Black woman. Gee, I wonder why Fox left out the part that illustrated how racist Republicans are? Also, on the broader question of affirmative action, a Gallup poll found that 62% of Americans support it, and noted that it was “the highest level of support recorded for such policies over the past 20 years.”

Carlson’s rancid racism was evident throughout this segment. He described his opposition to choosing a Black nominee saying that it was “because that’s Rwanda.” Really? And he had the audacity to say that “I’m not even attacking this woman personally,” moments after he said that she would defile the court and that she “isn’t much of a jurist,” and calling her “ignorant of the law.”

Carlson also complained that Judge Jackson was praised by progressives, because it inferred that she would be biased on the Court. But he never seemed to be bothered that all of the candidates that Donald Trump considered were taken from lists provided by the ultra-rightist Heritage Foundation and/or the Federalist Society. So Carlson is just as much a hypocrite as he is a racist. But then who didn’t know that already?

Fox News’ Stupid Son of a Doocy Asks Biden: Did You Underestimate ‘Worthy Adversary’ Putin?

President Joe Biden held a press conference on Thursday to inform the American people about what the administration is doing in response to Russia’s “unprovoked and unjustified” invasion of Ukraine (full video below). He revealed that the United States and it allies would immediately impose a set of severe economic sanctions to punish Putin’s brutal aggression. “Putin chose this war,” Biden said. “And now he and his country will bear the consequences.”

Fox News, Peter Doocy

Ordinarily, at times like these, the nation comes together to present a united front against such militaristic assaults on innocent and peaceful allies. However, Donald Trump’s Republican Party is already staking out a position that has been blatantly pro-Putin, as Trump has been doing himself.

So leave it to Fox News to contrive a question for Biden that frames the conflict in a decidedly warped perspective. When Biden called on Fox’s Peter Doocy, he asked the President the following question:

“Did you underestimate Putin and would you still describe him the way that you did in the summer, as a ‘worthy adversary’?”

With questions like this, can anyone fault Biden for having muttered under his breath last month that Doocy was a stupid son of a bitch? Someone needs to tell Doocy that his own question contradicts his biased premise. If Putin was described as “a worthy adversary,” then, by definition, he wasn’t underestimated. And that was the essence of Biden’s reply:

“I made it clear he was an adversary and I said that he was worthy. I didn’t underestimate him. … You heard the speech he made, almost an hour’s worth of speech as to why he was going into Ukraine. He has much larger ambitions than Ukraine. He wants to, in fact, reestablish the former Soviet Union. That is what this is about. And I think his ambitions are completely contrary to the place where the rest of the world has arrived.”

This is typical of how Doocy – and pretty much all of Fox’s openly partisan correspondents and pundits – approach questioning of Biden. There is no intention to obtain useful information or to bring understanding to their viewers. Their sole purpose is to create a negative narrative, and then to plant it into the minds of the willfully ignorant Fox audience.

That’s bad enough when it just involves conventional politics and policies. But when they use it to distort the circumstances surrounding a wartime crisis, it is irresponsible and destructive. And it can exacerbate the harm and hardships of both the American people and the victims of Putin’s aggression in Ukraine.

Unfortunately, the only thing that Fox News cares about is maligning Biden and the Democrats. And if it hurts the country and its interests, that’s just too bad. At Fox News, party and partisanship always come before country or the people.

Trump Phones Into Fox News to Offer His Idiotic, Egomaniacal Take on Putin’s Invasion of Ukraine

Russia’s most aggressively ambitious tyrant in 70 years, Vladimir Putin, has launched the attack on Ukraine that many people, including President Biden, were expecting. It is certain to result in needless hardship and human loss. And it comes at time when America’s right-wing Republican Trump cult has been shamelessly praising Putin and bitterly maligning Biden.

Donald Trump TV Set

Donald Trump himself has been engaged in non-stop America-bashing. So it should come as no surprise that, in this moment of crisis, he would emerge from his Mar-a-Lago bunker to disgorge his utterly repugnant and worthless perspective on the tragedy that has befallen Ukraine. And that emergence would be facilitated, of course, by his anti-American Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News.

While the Russian invasion was still in progress, Trump called in to Fox News chat with devoted Trump-fluffer, Laura Ingraham (video below). And in the seven and a half minutes that she sucked up to him, Trump babbled, deflected, and exalted himself. But never once offered meaningful counsel, condolences to the Ukrainian people, or condemnation of his soul mate, Vladimir Putin and Russia. Ingraham asked a total of three questions, which Trump barely paid any attention to:

Ingraham’s First Question: You’re watching this unfold. You’re reaction to Putin’s threat if any Western nation, or any nation, intervenes with this Russian military action.
Trump: Well, this is something that should have never happened. It would not have happened during my administration. In fact. some people were saying why didn’t this take place over the last four years during our administration. And it didn’t for a very good reason. And I’ll explain that to you some day. But it wouldn’t have taken place. And it wouldn’t have taken place right now. And it’s a very sad thing for the world, for the country, and it’s certainly very sad for a lot of people that are gonna be needlessly killed.

Notice that Trump completely evaded the question. His answer to Ingraham asking for his “reaction to Putin’s threat if any nation intervenes,” was “This would not have happened during my administration,” which he repeated four times like a blathering crackhead. He had no idea how to respond to Putin’s threat, so he wrapped himself in a narcissistic cocoon, fixated on his delusions that everything would have been hunky dory just by his divine presence.

And since Trump declined to explain to Ingraham why Putin wouldn’t have invaded Ukraine if he were still occupying the White House, here is the actual explanation: Putin would not have needed to invade Ukraine because Trump was giving him everything he wanted without any military actions or threats. Putin wanted assurances that Ukraine would not join NATO. He wanted to weaken the European Union. He wanted to undermine democracy in the West, particularly in the United States. He wanted to expand Russia’s territorial influence. And Trump was already allowing him to do all of that. It’s only because Trump was booted out of office and replaced by a President who stood for American values of democracy and liberty that Putin decided he would have to achieve his totalitarian goals via force.

Ingraham’s Second Question: Give us sense though, you know Vladimir Putin. You’ve dealt with him. How would you have avoided this conflict? How would you have prevented these series of events from unfolding?
Trump: Well, look, I do know him, and I know him very well. We’ve had many, many times together. And I got along with him fantastically. Despite the fact that I shut down Nord Stream 2. [Edited to remove a bunch of irrelevant nonsense about Nord Stream 2] So I think that it’s a terrible thing. The way it started, I really don’t believe he wanted to do this initially. I think he wanted to do something and negotiate. And it just got worse and worse. And then he saw the weakness. And you know it really started with the weakness in Afghanistan and the way they pulled out of Afghanistan. I really believe that’s where he started thinking he can do this.

Once again, Trump completely evaded the question. When asked directly how he “would have avoided this conflict,” Trump just boasted that he “got along fantastically” with Putin (so what?), that he shut down the Nord Stream 2 oil pipeline (which he never did), and then he rambled on incoherently about Afghanistan in order to further disparage Biden. He didn’t approach anything resembling a plan to avoid the conflict. It was just more of his robo-talking points that he’s been disgorging for months.

Ingraham’s Third Question: President Trump, I want to ask you this. We understand that President Biden is monitoring this situation at the White House now and is gonna talk to the G7 tomorrow. Tomorrow? And he’s gonna talk to the nation sometime tomorrow as well. You’re reaction to that approach?
Trump: I don’t think he’s monitoring. I think he’s probably sleeping right now. This is a terrible thing. This is something that should have never happened. I really believe that it was Afghanistan. When he looked at that horrible, weak pullout.

This time Trump kind of stayed with the question. But his answer was just to lash out with his typically childish insults about Biden. For the record, Biden was also on the phone, but with his national security team, Ukrainian President Zelensky, and representatives of NATO, the EU, and the United Nations. Meanwhile, Trump, because his attention span is so limited, reverted back to the same diversions he deployed for the previous questions: It would never have happened, and Afghanistan.

To close the interview, Trump mashed together his long held and treasonous preference for Putin over Biden, his manically obsessive “Big Lie” that the 2020 election was rigged, and his mindlessly rote attacks on inflation and immigration…

Trump: Now [Putin] sees the weakness and the incompetence and the stupidity of this administration. And as an American I’m angry about it, and I’m saddened by it. And it all happened because of a rigged election. And that includes inflation. And that includes millions of people pouring in on a monthly basis.

And with that malicious assault on America during a time of crisis, Trump signed off. He was typically antagonistic toward the country he pretends to put first. He provided no encouragement for Americans who are facing the hardships that inevitably accompany war. He was just hostile, unpatriotic, and as always, egocentric and uncaring about anyone or anything but himself. So … same as it ever was with Trump.

Traitor Trump Can’t Stop Attacking America, but Won’t Condemn His Hero Putin’s Invasion of Ukraine

For the entire four years that Donald Trump occupied the White House, he never once criticized Vladimir Putin. To the contrary, he lavished Putin praise and justified his atrocities. That servile submission to America’s most foreboding foe was a constant reminder of where Trump misplaced his always self-serving disloyalties.

Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin

Trump’s own national security aide, and renowned expert on Ukraine and Russia, Fiona Hill, did not mince words when describing Trump’s aversion to America. “There’s no Team America for Trump,” Hill said. “Not once did I see him do anything to put America first. Not once. Not for a single second.”

On Tuesday morning Trump unleashed yet another exhibition of his rancid anti-patriotism. In a statement posted by his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill, Trump took some familiar swipes at the U.S. and its response to the invasion of Ukraine by Trump’s pals in Russia, saying that…

“If properly handled, there was absolutely no reason that the situation currently happening in Ukraine should have happened at all. I know Vladimir Putin very well, and he would have never done during the Trump Administration what he is doing now, no way!”

Tuesday morning quarterbacking is always easier than actually coming up with effective policy. Notice that Trump didn’t bother to lay out what he considered “proper handling.” That’s because his policy was always to kowtow to Putin. Trump is right that Putin would never have done what he’s doing now during the Trump administration. He didn’t need to. Trump was doing it for him. Trump was working arduously to undermine NATO, which is what Putin’s goal is today with regard to Ukraine. Trump continued, saying that…

“Russia has become very very rich during the Biden Administration, with oil prices doubling and soon to be tripling and quadrupling. The weak sanctions are insignificant.”

First of all, oil prices have not doubled, much less tripled or quadrupled. As usual, Trump is exaggerating (i.e. lying) to keep his cult followers disinformed. Oil prices have gone up, but then you know who else is getting rich on that? America and U.S. oil companies. And it will benefit the U.S. far more than Russia when the sanctions kick in that prevent Russia from selling its oil, and the U.S. assumes those markets. But we need to remember that oil is an international commodity and its prices are not set by the U.S. or U.S. policy.

Trump went on to repeat his old standard lies about his allegedly having achieved energy independence for America (which was achieved before his term in office), and spat out disingenuous complaints about Putin’s wealth. If Trump actually cared about that, the best way of cutting into Putin’s oil profits would be to transition faster to renewable energy. Which Trump and the GOP oppose.

Finally, Trump posted another statement attacking our ally, Germany, for shutting down the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. That’s something that Trump advocated before he felt the need to flip flop because now it is being done as part of the sanctions package put together by NATO and President Biden.

What makes this criticism of Germany even worse is that Trump sourced his complaint with a link to an article on RT, (Russia Today), a Kremlin-backed disinformation network that is registered as a “foreign agent” in the United States. Which is just further evidence of Trump’s embrace of Russia and its anti-American propaganda. As if any further evidence were needed. And for good measure, Trump phoned in to the Travis and Sexton radio show to humiliate himself by slobbering even more over Putin…

Fiona Hill: There’s No Team America for Trump. Not Once Did I See Him Do Anything to Put America First

Among the best examples of flagrant gaslighting by the Trumpian Republican right is that Donald Trump is patriot who puts America first. That has never been true. From the five phony draft deferments he got to avoid serving in Vietnam, to his sabotaging of President Biden on the eve of his summit with Vladimir Putin, to his frequent praise and concessions to Putin, Trump has demonstrated where his allegiance lies, and it isn’t to America first or otherwise.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump Vladimir Putin

Trump has been a willing and anxious adversary of America for years. That includes his being the first former president ever to refuse to participate in the peaceful transfer of power after he lost to Biden in 2020. To the contrary, in the intervening year Trump has done his best to undermine the nation’s faith in democracy, even attempting to stage a violent coup in order to cling to power.

Now, Fiona Hill, the Trump administration White House national security aide who advised Trump on Russia and Ukraine, is speaking out about the crisis in Ukraine, a subject in which she is extraordinarily well versed. And the critical message that she has stepped forward to make from her unique vantage point is that…

“There’s no Team America for Trump. Not once did I see him do anything to put America first. Not once. Not for a single second.”

As reported by CNN, Hill elaborated saying that…

“Trump treated NATO as what Hill called a ‘protection racket.’ Most notoriously, it showed in Trump’s attempt to squeeze Ukraine’s President for manufactured dirt on Biden to help his 2020 election campaign. He held up American military aid as a political lever as Ukraine faced the long-running Russian military threat that now has the entire world on edge.” […]

“At home, Trump softened Republicans’ once-hawkish approach to Russia. Today, the leading Fox News hosts and other conservative voices — ‘the ultimate stooges,’ as Hill calls them — buttress Russian arguments as armed conflict looms.”

The pro-Russia right-wing politicians and pundits have been propping up Trump’s approach to foreign policy by asserting that he was successful in keeping Putin from invading Ukraine. But what they are missing – or more accurately purposefully suppressing – is the fact that Putin didn’t need to make such threats when his ally Trump was occupying the White House.

The evidence is that the one thing that Putin has been adamant about in the current conflict is his determination to extract a promise that Ukraine will never join NATO. His goal all along has been to weaken NATO and the European Union. But Putin didn’t need to take military action to achieve that goal during the Trump administration because Trump was doing that for him.

Trump even granted another Putin wish by withholding military funds from Ukraine in an attempt to blackmail Ukrainian President Zelensky into digging up dirt on Biden. Trump was impeached, the first time, for that anti-American thuggery.

Now that Biden is President and is restoring the NATO alliance, Putin is resorting to military measures to get his way. The reason that Putin is threatening Ukraine now, but wasn’t when Trump was in office, is because Biden isn’t the sort of servile stooge that Trump was. Fiona Hill could not have been more right. And her words bear repeating: “There’s no Team America for Trump. Not once did I see him do anything to put America first. Not once. Not for a single second.”

Fox News Cuts Off Hillary Clinton So They Can Lie More About Spying on Trump that Never Happened

The editorial propagandists at Fox News are apparently unsatisfied with lying about President Biden’s economic successes, or whose side America should take between Ukraine and Russia, or the anti-vax Canadian trucker convoy. So they are reprising an old favorite political foil that they frequently fall back on when their other horror stories just aren’t cutting it.

Fox News, Hillary Clinton

For much of the day on Thursday, Fox News promoted a speech by Hillary Clinton at a Democratic conference in New York. They repeatedly promised to cover what the former First Lady, U.S. Senator, and Secretary of State would be saying at the event. However, when it came time to actually put Clinton on the air, Fox News played about thirty seconds of her speech before interrupting it to dump a load of bona fide bullpucky that had nothing to do with what she was saying. And by some curious coincidence, they cut her off just as she began to criticize Dear Leader Donald Trump and his Republican Apostles of Asininity:

Clinton: We must reject the ‘Big Lie’ about the 2020 election and the cover up of the insurrection on January 6th…
Martha MacCallum: Alright, Hillary Clinton hitting some familiar themes here as she gets louder at the podium there in New York City, talking about January 6th, says it was a gift to China. Talking about unity and democracy, all of that, of course, at the same time as John Durham continues the investigation into whether or not her campaign was involved in an effort to listen in to president Trump, or listen in to candidate Trump. So all of that will play out in the courtroom as that unfolds in May. But right now a lot of speculation about whether or not Hillary Clinton sees weakness in the current President. Whether or not she sees an opportunity for herself in 2024 perhaps. And is this a moment where she’s starting to put herself back on the public stage.

Notice that MacCallum (who derisively described Clinton as getting louder, even though her voice doesn’t change at all) couldn’t allow Clinton to mention Trump’s “Big Lie” about the 2020 election or the violent insurrection and coup attempt that he incited. That Foxish heresy had to be nipped in the bud. But more importantly, MacCallum blatantly lied about the “Durham Nothingburger,” a court filing containing information that was all previously reported, but that is now being misconstrued to accuse Clinton and her campaign of spying on Trump. MacCallum actually takes the lie about alleged spying farther than most of her colleagues by asserting that Clinton sought “to listen in to president Trump.”

For the record, special counsel John Durham never alleged that there was any surveillance of conversations whatsoever. His filing only addressed some tracking of publicly available Internet activity. It’s something like reporting that two phones had connected, but not having any access to anything that was said by either party. What’s more, Durham’s filing clearly states that the period of time that Internet activity was being monitored was during President Obama’s term, not Trump’s. So everything that MacCallum, and the rest of the right-wing echo chamber, have been raging about is totally bogus, as usual.

Fox’s Jesse Watters went even farther to invent a scandal that has no basis in reality. On his program Thursday he said that Durham’s documents showed that Clinton’s people not only hacked into Trump’s computers, but that they “planted evidence that he colluded with Russia. Yeah. You heard that right.” This is devolving into National Enquirer style “alien babies” idiocy.

RELATED: WTF? Giuliani Says He’s Stashed ‘Evidence’ Against Hillary Clinton in His Bedroom for Years

Finally, MacCallum felt compelled to contribute some ridiculous speculation that Clinton is plotting a return to the campaign trail, adding that her supposed ambition was because she “sees weakness” in Biden. All of that is straight out of MacCallum’s warped imagination as Clinton has not done or said anything that would suggest she was considering running again, or that she was critical of Biden. However, she did have something to say about Fox News:

“They’ve been coming after me again lately, thank you. You might have noticed. It’s funny, the more trouble Trump gets into, the wilder the charges and conspiracy theories about me seem to get. So now his accountants have fired him, and investigations drop closer to him, and right on cue, the noise machine gets turned up, doesn’t it? Fox leads the charge with accusations against me, counting on their audience to fall for it again. And as an aside, they’re getting awfully close to actual malice in their attacks.”

That reference to “actual malice” is the legal standard for establishing defamation, if she were to file a lawsuit. While Clinton is unlikely to sue Fox News, she is putting them on notice that their lies are out of bounds and could place them in legal jeopardy. Sean Hannity heard this and dared her to “bring it on.” He will sorely regret it if he actually gets his wish.

How Stupid is Trump? He’s Bragging that 49% of Republicans Don’t Want Him to Run in 2024 (CNN Poll)

With each new day and damning disclosure, it’s getting more difficult to decipher the dementia exhibited by Donald Trump. As the legal walls close in around him he is becoming noticeably distraught. His outbursts are more outlandish and fraught with fear, incoherent absurdities, and impotent demands.

Donald Trump, Mocking Disability

The past several days have been particularly bad for Trump. He was discovered to have flushed documents down the toilet that the law requires him to preserve. He was thrown under the bus by both Mike Pence and Mitch McConnell. A bogus filing by special counsel John Durham was appropriately ignored by the press. His longtime accounting firm announced that they were ceasing to work for him and that ten years of his financial reports were ‘unreliable.” And even his legal lackey Rudy Giuliani is reported to be fully cooperating with the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection.

This avalanche of atrocious news may explain Trump’s curious behavior. On Tuesday morning his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill, Liz Harrington, posted a tweet enthusiastically announcing: “CNN POLL: 51 Percent of Democrats Do NOT Want Joe Biden as the 2024 Nominee”

Let’s just set aside that Trump usually dismisses CNN as “fake news.” At first glance this CNN poll may seem like something that Trump would be thrilled to pass on to his Tweeple. It suggests soft support for Biden in the next presidential election. However, what Trump left out is that the same poll shows that 49% of Republicans don’t want Trump to be the GOP’s 2024 presidential nominee. With the poll’s 3.3% margin of error, there is effectively no difference between the Democratic and Republican numbers. So what the heck is he bragging about?

Digging further into the poll finds even worse news for Trump. When the Democrats who said they would prefer a candidate other than Biden were asked why, 31% said it was because they didn’t want him to be reelected. When the same question was asked of the Republicans, 39% said it’s because they don’t want him back in the white House. So there are significantly more Republicans opposed to Trump running in 2024, than there are Democrats opposed to Biden.

Most of the rest of the respondents for both parties were divided among other concerns such as electability or age. It isn’t really surprising that Democrats might be open to candidates other than Biden. Democrats are a diverse community with an abundance of attractive political prospects. Unlike the GOP, they are not a party that is mired in blind idolatry and cult worship.

It’s also notable that, rather than linking to CNN as the source for the poll data, Trump’s tweet linked to the notorious Internet conspiracy crackpot, Gateway Pundit. That’s so that he could control what information was disseminated, how biased it would be presented, and how ignorant he would leave his followers.

That’s how Trump came to embrace a poll whose results proved precisely how unpopular he is within his own party. And it isn’t the first time he’s had this kind of mental meltdown. Just last week Trump boasted about a Pew Research survey that showed that 67% of the respondents – including 41% of Republicans – said that he “bears some or a lot of responsibility for the violence and destruction committed by some of his supporters when they broke into the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.”

At this rate, Democrats could just sit back and wait for Trump to keep pointing out what a pitiful failure he is, and how much people can’t stand him. But they must not. Democrats still need to take the lead in educating the public and providing positive messaging for the upcoming campaigns in 2022 and 2024. It will take fierce determination and unyielding commitment to defeat the innate disadvantages built into the Electoral College, and to overcome the obstacles that the GOP has been building to suppress the vote. Democrats definitely have their work cut out for them. But it’s still nice of Trump to help them make their case.

America-Hating Fox News Roots for Trucker Convoy to Sabotage the Booming Biden Economy

For the past two years America has been struggling to stay afloat in a turbulent sea roiled be a deadly pandemic. And despite having been dealt a depressed nation (economically and emotionally) by his – sometimes malicious, sometimes incompetent – predecessor, Donald Trump, President Joe Biden’s efforts to restore the nation’s health and prosperity have been remarkably successful.

Fox News Sad

The grossly underreported “Biden Boom” is well under way, with the country experiencing the strongest two-year performance on growth, jobs, and income in decades. Former Under Secretary of Commerce, Robert Shapiro, recently summarized the unprecedented gains, including…

  • “Over the first three quarters of this year, real GDP increased at a 7.8 percent annual rate.”
  • “From January 20 to December 7, 2021, the S&P 500 Index jumped 21.7 percent.”
  • “From January through October, all wage and salary income paid by private businesses increased 2.4 percent after inflation, compared to gains of 0.3 percent for the comparable period in 2019 and 0.7 percent in 2018.”
  • “5,675,000 Americans who were unemployed when this year began had found new jobs by November.”
  • “The jobless rate fell from 6.3 percent last January to 4.2 percent in November, or by one-third over 11 months.”
  • “Oil prices have fallen by more than 20 percent over the past three weeks.”

Fox News, however, is outraged by this uplifting economic news. So they have embarked on a crusade to sabotage these achievements, and to undermine the welfare of the nation and its weary but hardy people.

The America-bashing gasbags at Fox News have been observing the allegedly anti-vaccine trucker convoys in Canada with near orgasmic glee. They have noticed that the truckers have blocked highways, disrupted commerce, and interfered with public safety services (police, fire and ambulance). And they have concluded from that that this would be just dandy for the United States.

As reported by Media Matters, “Fox hosts are extremely excited about the protests,” and that “The network devoted 10 hours and 8 minutes to the story from the first mention of the convoy we found on January 18 through February 10.” Which contrasts sharply with their coverage of Trump absconding with White House documents – many classified “Top Secret” – for which Fox devoted a single mention on Thursday.

Also neglected on Fox News was the fact that the truckers participating in the convoy do not represent the trucking industry, which has disavowed them. Nor do they represent the Canadian people, the vast majority of whom oppose the mobile protest.

Fox News has a long history of maligning popular protest movements in the U.S. They have disparaged groups such as Black Lives Matters as lawless thugs. But Foxies like Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson are praising the truckers as “inspirational” and “freedom fighters.” And they are openly salivating at the prospect of building a similar AstroTurf movement here at home. Carlson told his dimwitted viewers that…

“So far, that blockade has forced Ford to shut down one of its manufacturing plants and to operate another plant with a skeleton crew. Toyota says it won’t be able to manufacture vehicles in Ontario for the rest of the week. GM has cancelled multiple shifts at its plant in Lansing, Michigan, due to parts shortages.

“So this protest is less than a week old and already it is causing deep pain to alt least on global industry. It’s hard to overstate the historical significance of what we’re watching right here. The Canadian trucker convoy is the single most successful human rights protest in a generation.”

To be clear, Carlson is thrilled that a small, unrepresentative cluster of extremist Canadian anti-vaxxers and neo-Nazis are shutting down U.S. factories and putting Americans out of work. And that is the lock-step perspective across the Fox News schedule. It is decidedly unpatriotic and harmful to Americans who have nothing to do with the policies that the truckers oppose, and who just want to provide for their families in a safe environment.

Fortunately, there are wiser and more compassionate public servants working on behalf the American people. Press Secretary Jen Psaki addressed the Canadian trucker matter on Friday morning, noting that “it has the potential to have a huge impact on workers and the American public.” But she also offered some hope going forward by observing that the truckers have not effectively cut off transportation routes, and that the Biden administration is working with Canadians to insure that commerce on both sides of the border remains uninterrupted:

Trump’s Deranged Response to Mike Pence Sends the Republican Party Skidding Into Disarray

Former Vice-President Mike Pence managed to crawl out from under his rock to make a bit of news on Friday. He gave a speech to the ultra-rightist Federalist Society during which he made his first feeble foray into finding fault with his former boss, Donald Trump.

Donald Trump, Republican, GOP

Taking a break from his typical Trump-fluffing, Pence ventured into the subject of his role during the January 6th insurrection. That role was solely to carry out the constitutionally mandated certification of the Electoral College votes for president by Congress. But in his remarks to the Federalists, he responded to Trump’s ludicrous assertions that he was empowered to overturn the election. Pence made a surprising departure from the Trump Cult Doctrine that the deadly riots were peaceful protests and Trump’s claim that he could halt the proceedings. Pence said that…

“Trump is wrong. I had no right to overturn the election. The presidency belongs to the American people and the American people alone. And frankly, there is no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American president. Under the Constitution I had no right to change the outcome of our election.”

That’s a pretty emphatic repudiation of Trump’s self-serving, nonsensical blathering on the subject. Not that Pence deserves much credit for this unexpected eruption of honesty, considering it took him more than a year to deliver it. Still, calling Trump “wrong” and “un-America” was more than what most Republicans have mustered the courage to do.

Predictably, Trump was perturbed by Pence expressing any opinion that differed from his own. So he lashed out on Twitter (via his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill) to castigate his former number two saying that…

“Just saw Mike Pence’s statement on the fact that he had no right to do anything with respect to the Electoral Vote Count, other than being an automatic conveyor belt for the Old Crow Mitch McConnell to get Biden elected President as quickly as possible. Well, the Vice President’s position is not an automatic conveyor if obvious signs of voter fraud or irregularities exist.”

Trump spat out a twofer there, also snarling about Republican Senate minority leader, Mitch McConnell. It’s puzzling that Trump thinks his infantile characterization of McConnell as an “Old Crow” is some sort of epic burn. First of all, Trump is almost as old as McConnell. And crows are considered to be intelligent and cunning. Trump might have been better off calling him an old turkey. But that’s more descriptive of Trump than McConnell.

More to the point, it’s preposterous that McConnell had any desire to hurry the election of President Biden. McConnell is a rock-ribbed conservative who has been an obstacle to all things Democratic for decades. Undeterred, Trump went on to repeat his ignorant misinterpretation of the law governing the certification process. He still thinks that Pence could have scuttled Biden’s election, and has the delusional impression that he “was right and everyone knows it.” Also, there are no “signs of voter fraud or irregularities,” obvious or otherwise. And everyone but Trump and his sycophants know it.

Ironically, Trump has become the most destructive critic of the Republican Party. He has called for GOP incumbents to be primaried. Particularly those who seek the truth about his role in plotting the insurrection, such as Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. It is likely that the GOP’s censure of them was at Trump’s behest. That’s evident in the language used, calling out Cheney and Kinzinger for “engag[ing] in a Democrat-led persecution of ordinary citizens who engaged in legitimate political discourse.” That’s what the GOP thinks took place on January 6th when the StormTrumpers violently invaded Congress and injured more than 140 police officers.

Yet somehow, the press reports that Democrats are in disarray because two small-state senators out of fifty have broken an otherwise unified party.

So who will Trump’s Republican Party censure next? Mike Pence? Mitt Romney? George Bush? Mitch McConnell? Lindsey Graham? They are a small but significant contingent of the Party’s most prominent names. However, most of the Party is still supporting Trump. And therefore, they also support violent insurrection and Trump’s “Big Lie” that the election was “rigged” and “stolen” from him. But most of all they must support the sentiment with which Trump closed his anti-Pence tweet, saying that “our Country is going to hell!” Which is just Trump, once again, revealing his own agenda America’s future.

WATCH: Fox News’ Anti-American Hopes Get Crushed By Massive Job Growth in January Under Biden

From its inception, the mission of Fox News has been to advance the ultra-rightist agenda of the Republican Party and to malign Democrats and progressive politics at every opportunity. They have pursued that mission by deliberately distorting facts and promulgating lies. And more recently they amended it to include slobbering support for Donald Trump and Trumpism.

Fox News, Joe Biden, Fake News

The dishonesty with which Fox News attacks their ideological foes has always reflected their utter absence of journalistic ethics and personal morality. And it wouldn’t be overstated to characterize their rancid partisanship as unpatriotic.

To that end, Fox News demonstrated their seething animosity toward America Friday morning in their “reporting” on the January jobs numbers from the Department of Labor. Media Matters helpfully compiled some of the commentaries that appeared on Fox prior to the report’s release. For instance…

Brian Kilmeade: In the next hour the January jobs report will be released, and it could be the worst in years.
Peter Doocy: The White House has been bracing for a bad number.
Steve Doocy: It could be a loss of 300,000 jobs. How is the White House gonna put a happy face on that?

The glee in their delivery is palpable. They are virtually rooting for America to fail. They obviously couldn’t care less about the welfare of working people and families. The prime directive for Fox News is to disparage all things Democratic in general, and President Biden in particular. If that means cheering what they anticipate will be bad news for the nation, so be it. They have their priorities. However, for the record

“Job growth rose far more than expected in January despite surging omicron cases that seemingly sent millions of workers to the sidelines, the Labor Department reported Friday. Nonfarm payrolls surged by 467,000 for the month.” […]

“Along with the big upside surprise for January, massive revisions sent previous months considerably higher. December, which initially was reported as a gain of 199,000, went up to 510,000. November surged to 647,000 from the previously reported 249,000.” […]

“The labor force participation rate rose to 62.2%, a 0.3 percentage point gain. That took the rate, which is closely watched by Fed officials, to its highest level since March 2020 and within 1.2 percentage points of where it was pre-pandemic.”

This report brings the number of jobs created during Biden’s first year in office to more than 6.6 million. It is the highest annual rate of job creation in history. Nevertheless, Fox News went further when Harris Faulkner reported the numbers, but twisted them to turn it into something negative and flagrantly false. Biden, she said, was “taking a victory lap on the jobs created in the month of January because we’ve spent months going in the wrong direction.” That must be more of those “alternative facts” (aka lies). In reality, job creation under Biden has been hitting historic highs for months.

This is what Fox News does. Rather than appreciate the good news for the American people, and congratulate them on their successes, Fox needs to rain on their parade and try to convince them that the country is going to hell, regardless of the truth. It’s part and parcel of their strategy to drive down Biden’s polling. So expect them to continue to lie about the economy, about the COVID pandemic and vaccines, about Trump’s illegal attempts to overturn the election, and so much more. They’ve been lying for 25 years, and they aren’t going to stop now.
