Sean Hannity and Donald Trump Jr Promote Putin Propaganda Over U.S. Intelligence on Fox News

With each new day’s dawn it is becoming harder and harder ignore the mounting evidence that Fox News is acting as the Ministry of Propaganda for Vladimir Putin and Russia. Their top rated host, Tucker Carlson, has openly taken sides with Russia over the interests of the United States. “Why would we pick Ukraine’s side,” he recently asked rhetorically, “and not Russia’s side?”

Fox News, Sean Hannity, Vladimir Putin

Carlson also visited Hungary to lavish praise on its pro-Putin puppet, Viktor Orbán. And that endorsement was quickly parroted by Donald Trump, who has not been shy about his preference for Putin. He even tried sabotage President Biden’s summit with the Russian dictator. Which is something he may have picked up from Sean Hannity, who made virtually the same comments a few days prior.

So naturally Hannity is continuing to malign Biden and America with brazenly unpatriotic polemics. To that end he invited Donald Trump Jr on his program to offer a “fair and balanced” analysis of the Russian threat to Ukraine (and ya gotta love Rep. eric Swalwell’s take):

“I get to read reports saying that intelligence is saying that Russians may be launching a cyber attack on America. I don’t think so. I imagine that’s our people lying to us to try to instigate us getting into another war to distract from the incompetence. Do you think our posture in Ukraine has anything to do with his corrupt son raking in millions over the year, and this is the way to cover it up.”

Oh! Donnie “gets to read reports,” does he? Notice that he isn’t saying that he reads intelligence, which even Daddy Trump is prohibited from getting due to his “erratic behavior.” And the “reports” Donnie reads are undoubtedly contrived by conspiracy crackpots like Alex Jones or any sitting Republican member of Congress.

In his harangue, the sniveling Trump spawn lets leak an inadvertent truth when he says that “I imagine that’s our people lying to us.” Indeed, he is imagining it. He is imagining what he most desires: that there are “Deep State” government moles concocting nefarious schemes that conform to his anti-American nightmares.

However, Donnie’s conspiracy theory couldn’t be more preposterous. He’s alleging that Biden is plotting to start a war with Russia in order to cover up some imaginary incompetence or minor malfeasance by Hunter Biden (for which there has never been any evidence). That would be like setting yourself on fire to get rid of a pimple. Which I wouldn’t put past Donnie. He really thinks that Biden would consider a war with another nuclear superpower to be preferable to a temporary bad news cycle.

This sort of perverse perspective is par for the course for Junior. Earlier this week he posted a video of himself in which he appeared to be totally wasted. The fact that he could post that video, given his slurred and halted speech, and his bizarre head twitching, is a glaring red flag indicating much deeper emotional and/or psychological problems.

However, the neuroses of the Trumps are equally matched by the fanatical fawning of Fox News. Needless to say, Hannity had no problem with Donnie’s diatribe. It’s the sort of dishonest partisanship that has long been the mission of Fox News. And it was on full display Friday when they aired this cringeworthy clip:

Tucker Carlson Rages for 12 Minutes Against Biden Nominating a Black Woman to the Supreme Court

On Wednesday evening Tucker Carlson of Fox News took a short break from his regularly scheduled parade of projectile propaganda. That meant briefly setting aside his slobbering support for the totalitarianism of Vladimir Putin’s Russia, his deadly pro-COVID, anti-vaccine disinformation, and his embrace of Donald Trump’s treasonous January 6th insurrectionists.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Klan

But he had what he certainly regards as a righteous reason to interrupt that stew of hatred and lies. Carlson’s latest tirade was an elaborate extension of the notorious white nationalism that has made him so popular with the avowed racists that he insists deserve to be loved.

The trigger for this pivot into (even more) prejudice was the news that Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer is retiring, and that President Biden intends to keep his campaign promise to nominate a Black woman to the Court. Nothing could be more abhorrent to Carlson and his cadre of conservative Klanists at Fox News and in the Republican Party.

To make sure that no one missed the point, Carlson devoted a full twelve minutes to this subject. It was a rancid regurgitation of the racism that has become the hallmark of his program, as well as the official doctrine of Fox News and GOP. Carlson’s outrage was unrestrained. Also unhinged, unreasonable and untruthful (video below for those with strong stomachs):

“‘I will appoint a Black woman to the Court.’ That was Biden’s promise. Alright. But which Black woman exactly? Biden didn’t tell us. Biden didn’t mention the Supreme Court nominee’s legal qualifications, or judicial philosophy, or ability to perform one of the most important jobs in the country. He didn’t even tell us if she was a nice person. All he said was she’s gonna be Black and she’s gonna be female. Because to him that’s all that matters.”

To no one’s surprise, Carlson is lying. Biden has often spoken of the qualifications required to be a Supreme Court Justice. He has likewise expressed his opinions about judicial philosophy. Carlson’s attention span is limited to only what will fit his miniscule and pre-determined mindset. But he wasn’t through making an asinine bigot of himself. He felt it necessary to prove his ability to muddy any discourse with patently idiotic rhetoric:

“Where is Biden’s Pacific Islander nominee? Why isn’t there an American Indian on the court? Or a gender queer? Or someone from the chronic fatigue syndrome community. Or a justice with cognitive disabilities? Why isn’t there an Afghan refugee under consideration? You can laugh, but suddenly these are entirely fair questions.”

Indeed, we can laugh. But we’re laughing at Carlson (as usual), not with him. However, his ludicrous assertions that every possible demographic minority be represented on a nine person panel isn’t really funny. It is offensive. Particularly to the Black Americans who have been underrepresented and/or excluded from such institutions for decades. And Carlson seems to think that efforts to provide equity are illegitimate if they don’t include people like him (i.e. those with cognitive disabilities).

Carlson went on to mock Biden’s intention to have a judiciary that “looks like America.” And he took the time to malign the qualifications of each of the potential nominees being considered. He concluded, in his blatant bigotry, that not a single one of these accomplished Black women were suited to sit on the Court. But he did have another infantile suggestion:

“So you have to wonder at this point, since we’re going by skin color and gender, why Joe Biden is ignoring the obvious choice. Why doesn’t Joe Biden strike a real blow for equity and nominate Bridget Floyd? That was George Floyd’s sister. She is not a judge or a lawyer or whatever, but in this case, who cares? Clearly, that’s not the point anymore – this law stuff.”

No offense to Ms. Floyd, but she isn’t a serious contender for this post. Nevertheless, that’s the level of seriousness with which Carlson takes these matters. He purposefully turns the discussion into a farce, because that’s where his brand of obnoxious idiocy works best. He could never engage in a substantive debate because his intellectual skills are too riddled with rancor and loathing. And that’s just what he was hired to peddle to the prejudiced pissants who watch Fox News by the prejudiced posers who run it.

UPDATE: For Carlson’s benefit, here is what President Biden said in his official announcement regarding the appointment of a nominee to fill the seat of Justice Breyer:

“The person I will nominate will be someone with extraordinary qualifications, character, experience, and integrity, and that person will be the first Black woman ever nominated to the United States Supreme Court.”

Fox News Howls Hypocritically Over Biden Correctly Calling Peter Doocy a ‘Stupid Son of a B*tch’

Every now and then a politician speaks from the heart and articulates a message that is honest and expresses what many already know to be true. And on Monday President Biden provided an exquisite example of just such a moment.

Fox News, Joe Biden, Fake News

At a White House event on the Biden administration’s efforts to combat inflation, Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy shouted out a question that was typical of his tendency to turn questions into statements that advance the ultra-rightist narratives of Fox News. He should know better considering how often he is humiliated by that tendency. On this occasion, Doocy’s insolent inquiry led to this brief exchange:

Doocy: Do you think inflation is a political liability in the midterms?
Biden (Sarcastically, to himself): That’s a great asset – more inflation. What a stupid son of a bitch.

Biden’s private observation – which was not directed at Doocy, who didn’t hear it – was an understandable reaction to a pointless question. It served no purpose other than to politicize an economic situation that is adversely affecting the American people, and that Biden is trying to resolve without assistance from the GOP.

Obviously high inflation would impact the midterm elections, if it is still present ten months from now. Perhaps Doocy should be reminded of James Carville’s famous political maxim that “It’s the economy, stupid.” Carville could have directed that straight at Doocy, but for the risk of hurting his feelings.

For the record, Biden called and apologized to Doocy shortly after. He didn’t have to, but it is what a conscientious adult would do. And Doocy accepted the apology. However, his confederates at Fox News were far less forgiving. In fact, they were fixated on what they tried to portray as a scandalous breach of presidential decorum. Which is evidence of their blinding hypocrisy and feigned ignorance of the atrocious behavior of their notoriously profane Dear Leader, Donald Trump.

For instance, Tucker Carlson was incensed by Biden’s whispered commentary, saying that…

“Today, Joe Biden, mistaking himself for an emperor, informed reporters that ‘we don’t want to hear any shouted questions about Ukraine [which Biden didn’t say], so Fox’s Peter Doocy, trying to be polite, tried to ask him a question about inflation.”

Carlson then played the video of Biden and went on to insult him saying “What a nasty old man,” and childishly maligned his mental acuity asserting that he “doesn’t remember saying it.”

It’s notable that Carlson called MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough “stupid” on the air just last week. He has not apologized. What’s more, when Fox News addressed this incident, they flagrantly misrepresented what happened saying “POTTY MOUTH: Raging Biden curses out Fox News’ Peter Doocy as he takes his bitterness towards the press to a new level.”

The video clearly shows that Biden was hardly “raging.” And there is no record of his having any bitterness toward the press. That was Trump, who repeatedly called the media “the enemy of the people.” As for who’s the “potty mouth”

Republicans, however, seem to have selective amnesia on this subject. Trump lawyer and Newsmax contributor, Jenna Ellis, asked via tweet, “Can you imagine if Trump said this to a reporter?” Sadly, we don’t have to imagine. Also, GOP insurrectionist Rep. Jim Banks, whose son works for Tucker Carlson, had the audacity to tweet this:

Seriously? Are Ellis and Banks really so brain damaged that they’ve forgotten all the times that Trump attacked and maligned the free press? Especially Black women. Here’s a reminder for them:

As it turns out, recognizing Doocy’s stupidity isn’t a partisan affair. A few years ago Republican Sen. John McCain said it to his face:

https://twitter.com/KaivanShroff/status/1425548700579938313

Fox News and the Trumpian Republican Party will undoubtedly keep fixating on this triviality. That’s because they can’t make a credible argument against Biden’s leadership and his agenda for the nation that most Americans support. So unfortunately we’ll have to expect more of these preposterous hysterics as we get closer to the midterm elections, and as the law gets closer to nailing Trump. It’s really all they have left.

UPDATE: GOP Rep. Ronny Jackson, Trump’s former White House “doctor,” told Brian Kilmeade of Fox News that “I’ve seen this multiple times with people the President’s age who are starting to have cognitive issues […] He’s not fit to be our head of state.” And Jackson is too dense and dishonest to see that his analysis didn’t apply at all to Biden, who was neither “short-tempered” nor “striking out” at anyone. But Trump fits his analysis to a tee.

WASTED? Trump Jr’s Halting and Slurred Speech in Bizarre Video Attacking Biden is Painful to Watch

The new year has turned out to be an especially difficult time for Donald Trump’s crime family. They have been suffering through a series of personal and legal setbacks. First, his favorite propaganda outlet lost it’s biggest distributor when DirecTV announced that they would cease to carry the One America News Network. But that was just the start.

Donald Trump Jr

Trump’s legal woes were even more catastrophic. In an 8-1 ruling the Supreme Court rejected his efforts to suppress his White House records. The New York Attorney General took action to force him to testify in the real estate and tax fraud case. A Georgia district attorney requested a special grand jury to probe his efforts to intimidate state officials to overturn their election results. A bunch of his StormTrumpers (aka Oath Keepers) were indicted for seditious conspiracy for their roles in the January 6th insurrection in Washington, D.C. And most recently, his daughter Ivanka has been asked to come before the House Select Committee investigating the insurrection.

With those burdens weighing on Daddy Trump, his sputtering spawn, Don Jr, took to Facebook to vent incoherently about President Biden. Unfortunately for him, the video he posted portrayed him in the most unflattering light imaginable. It was a pathetic mash of irrational ramblings that raised questions as to his sobriety and/or sanity. His speech was unnaturally halting, and he slurred his words like a besotted wretch. One has to wonder not just what caused this sickly behavior, but also what could have possessed him to post it (full video below, if you can stomach it):

“Can’t put Joe Biden in the same room with someone. He might let one rip. Guys, Joe Biden is what stands between us and a nuclear capable China? Joe Biden is the guy they’re gonna call at three in the morning if there’s a serious crisis with Russia?”

So Trump led off with a fart joke? Which was followed by a vague rhetorical question that sought to malign Biden’s ability to respond to a crisis. That’s pretty bold coming from someone who couldn’t complete a comprehensible sentence. Never mind that Biden has demonstrated both sound judgment and strength as tensions between Russian and Ukraine have escalated. Which is in sharp contrast to the reckless and irresponsible reactions posited by Republicans and Fox News pundits.

It seems obvious that Fox and the Trumpian GOP would like to see a war break out that would draw the U.S. into the battle. They are virtually goading Vladimir Putin into invading Ukraine by sending him the message that America under Biden is too weak to respond. It is a decidedly anti-American position that is dangerous, as well as insulting to our armed forces. But Fox News has been openly taking Putin’s side all along. And so has Donald Trump, who tweeted Monday morning that…

“What’s happening with Russia and Ukraine would never have happened under the Trump Administration. Not even a possibility!”

Of course not. Trump was Putin’s puppet. Why would Putin do anything to upset his mastery over the U.S. leader that was in his pocket? Trump likes to puff up his chest and claim to be a pillar of strength. The truth is, as his own communications director said, he was just putting on a show for Putin and would never challenge him.

To the contrary, Trump explicitly favored Putin, while deliberately sabotaging Biden. And now his progeny is delivering similar assaults on Biden for Putin’s pleasure. But Junior’s besotted demeanor doesn’t help him get his traitorous message out.

Jimmy Kimmel Rewinds Trump to Remind the Fox News ‘Bobbleheads’ How Humiliating He Was

This week President Biden met with reporters for a Q & A that set a record as the longest presidential press conference ever. He took questions from a broad array of media, including the most unfriendly and flagrantly biased members of the press corps, Fox News and Newsmax, whom he handily dispatched with grace and humor.

Fox News, Sean Hannity, Jimmy Kimmel

However, Biden’s endurance, command of the issues, and respectful demeanor didn’t deter knee jerk criticism from the Trump-fluffing Fox “News” hacks who made up their minds to hate Biden’s performance before the event began. The post-conference coverage on Fox News was predictably and uniformly negative, albeit lacking in any substantive critique.

Leading the parade of professional party poopers at Fox were Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham. They engaged in a mutual denigration society segment that cemented their reputations as TV vermin with this reality-challenged analysis of the Biden presser:

Ingraham: (Laughing) It was a nightmare. Oh my God! It was about the worst that I can remember from a president, frankly.
Hannity: I honestly as an American – and I don’t say this with any joy – I felt embarrassed. I felt it’s humiliating.

“The worst”? “Humiliating”? Have these two clowns ever seen a Donald Trump press conference? Have they already forgotten the embarrassing display that Trump put on every time he faced the media that he maligned in Stalinist terms as “the enemy of the people”?

Fortunately, Jimmy Kimmel was there to remind them with video documentation of Trump’s infantile, hostile, and cringeworthy behavior. Kimmel introduced the evidence saying that…

“The bobbleheads over at Fox News had a lot of fun with Biden’s press conference yesterday. Here’s the comedy team of Hannity and Ingraham with their in-depth and unbiased analysis of when Biden met the press.”

Talk about humiliating! Trump couldn’t open his mouth without making an asinine display of ignorance and seething animus toward anyone and anything that he regarded as less than unflinchingly adoring. And Trump had his own misrepresentation of what Biden said at the presser. He lied that Biden had “admitted” that there was election fraud in 2020. Of course, Biden never said anything of the sort. But in Trump’s world there are no facts allowed. Which makes this segment with attorney Ethan Bearman, that aired Thursday night, such a rare occurrence by a truthteller on Fox:

Ingraham and Hannity really shouldn’t attempt to mock others. they are terrible at it, and they are too big as targets themselves to risk it. Last year Hannity threatened Kimmel to stop talking about him and his show. And look how that went went.

Desperate or Delusional? Trump Lies that Biden Admitted There Was Election Fraud in 2020

The fact that Donald Trump is a textbook example of a pathological liar isn’t going to make any headlines. His innate, self-serving aversion to the truth has been well documented. And despite the frequency of his deliberate diversions from reality, he persists in prevaricating with an utter lack of the shame that even a marginally decent person would muster.

Joe Biden, Donald Trump

On Thursday morning Trump provided yet another example of his unabashed bullshittery. In a message posted by his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill, Trump reveled in what he thought (or pretended to think) was a concession by President Biden to his “Big Lie” that the 2020 election was “rigged” and “stolen” from him:

“President Biden admitted yesterday, in his own very different way, that the 2020 election may very well have been a fraud, which I know it was. I’m sure his representatives, who work so hard to make it look legit, are not happy.”

Of course, Biden never “admitted” anything of the sort. In his psychotic state, Trump is either making this up or imagining it. Or perhaps a little of both. What Trump is deceitfully referring to are remarks Biden made in his press conference the day before. What Biden actually said was…

“I’m confident that we can take the case to the American people that the people they should be voting for – who are going to oversee whether your elections, in fact, are legit or not – should not be those who are being put up by the Republicans to determine that they’re going to be able to change the outcome of the election.”

And later in an exchange with Allison Harris of News Nation…

Harris: Speaking of voting rights legislation, if this isn’t passed, do you still believe the upcoming election will be fairly conducted and its results will be legitimate?
Biden: Well, it all depends on whether or not we’re able to make the case to the American people that some of this is being set up to try to alter the outcome of the election. [,..] Remember how we thought not that many people were going to show up to vote in the middle of a pandemic? We had the highest voter turnout in the history of the United States of America.

In both statements Biden was clearly referring to upcoming elections in 2022 and 2024. He was not – as Trump said – talking about the 2020 election at all, which has been hailed by Trump’s own Department of Homeland Security as the “most secure in American history.” All fifty states certified the election results, including those led by Republicans. And Trump lost some sixty court cases that alleged election fraud because he couldn’t produce a shred of evidence.

Biden has good cause to be concerned about future elections considering the efforts by Republicans to pass state legislation that suppresses the votes of likely Democratic constituencies. And the GOP candidates for posts that oversee elections in many states are pro-authoritarian extremists campaigning on promises to take elections out of the hands of voters, and place them into partisan legislatures.

These are things that worry Biden (and many Americans), and is what he was talking about in his press conference. But he was not in any way agreeing with Trump’s flagrant falsehoods about election fraud in 2020. To the contrary, Biden was encouraged by the record voter turnout in 2020, despite significant obstacles. His press secretary, Jen Psaki, affirmed that on Twitter, and in an interview Thursday morning on – of all places – Fox News:

“The point he was raising was both that in 2020, even amongst challenging circumstances, efforts to suppress the vote, and in the midst of a pandemic, there was record turnout – Democrats and Republicans – record turnout to go to the polls. And the point he was making was that the former president asked a number of states – seven or more in fact – to overturn the outcome of the election.”

Meanwhile, at his latest cult rally in Arizona, Trump literally advocated that Republicans should cheat in upcoming elections:

“We have more people than they do, but they know politics and they know cheating. I sometimes say, ‘Well, would the Republicans ever do what they did?’ […] I say if it’s good for them, why aren’t the Republicans doing the same kind of thing with the ballots?”

First of all, they most certainly do not have more people than Democrats. Republicans are a distinct minority of the electorate. They do, however, have more cheaters. So if that’s what he meant, we’d have to give it to him.

More to the point, Trump is urging his cult followers to commit illegal acts because he falsely believes that Democrats are doing so. That wouldn’t be a valid justification to break the law even if it were true. But if Trump knew or cared anything about the law, he wouldn’t currently be the subject of numerous criminal investigations.

Biden Gracefully Dispatches Fox News Hack Peter Doocy Who Asks Another Ridiculous Question

On the occasion of President Biden’s one year anniversary in the White House, he held a press conference to answer the many questions that the media has about the important issues of the day. Unfortunately, some members of the press corps don’t take this as seriously as it deserves.

Fox News, Peter Doocy

The press conference lasted a couple of hours as Biden sought to give everyone an opportunity to have their questions answered. However, some of the right-wing rabble grew impatient because they were so anxious to hear from Peter Doocy of Fox News. So they took to Twitter to complain that Biden was dodging him before the event was even over:

https://twitter.com/WeThePeople021/status/1483924783125483524

Shortly after these whiners lashed at Biden for being afraid of letting Doocy ask a question, you’ll never guess what happened. Biden called on Doocy, who proceeded to ask a question that would justify never being called on again. Biden greeted Doocy saying that “You always ask me the nicest questions. None of them make sense to me.” Followed by this exchange…

Doocy: Why are you trying so hard in your first year to pull the country so far to the left?
Biden: Well, I’m not. I don’t know what you consider to be too far to the left. In fact, I’m talking about making sure we had the money for COVID. Making sure we had the money to put together the bipartisan infrastructure. Making sure we were able to provide for those things that, in fact, would significantly reduce the burden on working class people, but make them have to continue to work hard. I don’t know how that pulls to the left. You may recall that you guys were trying to convince me that I am Bernie Sanders. I’m not. I like him. But I’m not Bernie Sanders. I’m not a socialist. I’m a mainstream Democrat and I have been. And mainstream Democrats have overwhelmingly noticed that 48 of the 50 supported me in the Senate on virtually everything I’ve asked.

So that was what the right-wingers were waiting for with such rapt anticipation? That was what they wrongly believed was the sort of question that Biden would avoid? And what do they have to say now that Biden not only called on Doocy, but politely replied to his preposterous inquiry?

What’s more, Biden also called on James Rosen of Newsmax, whose question was even worse:

Rosen: Why do you suppose such large segments of the American electorate have come to harbor such profound concerns about your cognitive fitness?
Biden: I have no idea.

Biden gave that question precisely the amount of time and consideration it deserved. What exactly did Rosen expect Biden to say? Did he think Biden might go into an extended discourse on his mental acuity? Perhaps Biden should have noted that members of a Yale conference concluded that Donald Trump is “too mentally ill to serve.” Or Biden could have reported that the American people overwhelmingly regard Trump as unfit for the duties of his office. Or maybe Biden should have mentioned the Fox News poll that found that a majority of voters said that Trump doesn’t have the mental soundness to serve.

If these questions by Doocy and Rosen are examples of the mental fitness of reporters from Fox News and Newsmax, the Biden White House would be entirely justified in declining their credentials for future press conferences. But then we would miss the humiliation they subject themselves to.

Lara Trump’s Fox News Fantastical Fact-Free Revisionist History: Trump vs Biden: The First Year

It’s that time of year again. The time when the media loves to contrive mostly irrelevant milestones in order to shape easily digested narratives that invariably oversimplify complex political and social matters. And as we approach the one year anniversary of President Joe Biden’s inauguration, the spinners are coming out to create their partisan perspectives of what occurred in the recent past.

Fox News, Lara Trump

Prominent among the propagandist class is, of course, Fox News. On this occasion Fox’s Sean Hannity invited Fox News contributor Lara Trump, to deliver her perverse version of events (video below), and to compare Biden’s record to that of her father-in-law, Donald Trump. That’s not biased at all, is it? It’s the sort of “fair and balanced” analysis that Fox News is known for.

Ms. Trump began her stroll down memory-hole lane with a wildly distorted retelling of Trump’s work ethic while in the White House:

“I’m old enough to remember when we had a president who worked all day everyday for the American people, and by the way, took no salary. Of course I’m talking about President Donald Trump who in four years in office made $4.00. That’s right, because he had to take $1.00 a year. And I struggle to figure out any job where you could just not show up for a quarter of the days and keep your job.”

Good point! And indeed, Trump did not keep his job. Also, somebody might want to remind Lara about “Executive Time,” a euphemism coined to describe Trump’s notorious laziness. Leaked records from Trump’s White House reveal that he spent 60% of his time watching TV, phoning Fox News hosts, and tweeting undeserved exaltations of himself or bitter attacks on his foes. And that was when he wasn’t sermonizing at his cult rallies or golfing. Speaking of which, Lara noted that…

“I remember when the press and the Democrats would go crazy if Donald Trump got anywhere near a golf course. He clearly wasn’t golfing a quarter of his presidency.”

Actually, it was almost exactly a quarter of his presidency that Trump spent on the links. The documented truth is that Trump played golf at least 298 times (an average of once every five days) at a cost of $144 million taxpayer dollars. And most of those dollars went straight into Trump’s pocket as it paid for accommodations at his hotels and golf resorts for family, staff, members of Congress, Secret Service, political organizations, and even foreign operatives with business before the U.S. government. It shows what a trifling and dishonest dodge his bragging about taking a one dollar a year salary is.

Ms. Trump went on to praise Daddy-in-law for a string of imaginary accomplishments, including “the biggest tax cut in American history” (that overwhelming benefitted corporations and the wealthy; “remov[ing] so many regulations on businesses” (that made them more profitable at the expense of safety and the environment); “And he had also gotten rid of ISIS” (which will come as surprise to ISIS that is still very active).

In closing, Lara criticized Biden for taking “vacations” to his home in Delaware:

“I think it’s time to stop vacationing Joe Biden. I think it’s time, instead of walking your dog masked up on the beach in Delaware – by the way we still don’t know what happened to the first dog – It’s time to roll your sleeves up, get to work in the White House, cause vacationing clearly is not working.”

That’s a bold critique coming from the daughter-in-law of the president who spent the most time away from work in history. For the record, Biden was not on vacation when he went home. He was working remotely and getting a fair amount done. For instance: a major COVID-19 relief package, a bipartisan infrastructure bill, historically low unemployment, solid economic growth, the most federal judge confirmations in forty years, and getting more than 71% of American adults vaccinated.

That’s not to say that there haven’t been setbacks. The Build Back Better bill and the voting rights bills are still stuck in congressional limbo because not a single Republican will put the interests of the America people above their partisan political interests. Consequently, Biden is suffering a painfully low approval rating. However, he’s still doing better than Trump by a considerable margin.

“As Biden prepares to enter his second year in office, his average approval rating during the first year of his presidency (48.9%) is second only to former President Donald Trump, who had the lowest first-year rating of any post-World War II president, at 38.4%, according to Gallup.”

Democrats just need to do a better job of communicating their successes. And if they can do that without lying, the way Lara Trump is doing, they will eventually reap the reward.

Cowardly Republican Party to Require Their Presidential Candidates to Boycott 2024 Debates

With the 2024 presidential election still nearly three years away, the Republican Party is already showing signs that they are afraid of engaging in a free and open discourse with their Democratic opponent. Never mind that they have spent two years maligning President Biden as “sleepy” and mentally unfit, it is the GOP that appears to be concerned about their own candidate’s ability to face off in an open forum.

Donald Trump

The fear exhibited by the Republican Party is well warranted considering that their leading candidate is Donald Trump. For the past year Trump has been obsessively fixated on his having suffered a humiliating loss to Biden in 2020. It’s the only thing he talks about, despite having failed for more than a year – and sixty court cases – to provide a shred of evidence of his claims that the election was “rigged.” It is what fueled his deadly January 6th insurrection. And he is still twisting reality to insist that the “real insurrection” was on Election Day, November 3rd, 2020.

Consequently, the Republican National Committee (RNC) has announced that they intend to prohibit their Party’s candidate in 2024 from participating in the presidential debates that have been hosted for three decades by the bipartisan Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD). The RNC sent a letter to the Commission stating that…

“[T]he RNC will initiate the process of amending the Rules of the Republican Party at our upcoming Winter Meeting to prohibit future Republican nominees from participating in CPD-sponsored debates.”

Make no mistake about it. This is not a quarrel over some rationally disputed format differences. The RNC’s “reforms” are all driven by complaints that crybaby Trump made in 2020 due to his cognitive inadequacies and inability to engage in a substantive dialogue. He proved that during the debates when he couldn’t refrain from interrupting and had to be told by Biden to “Shut up, man.”

The Republican National Committee is obviously scared, so they’re issuing ludicrous ultimatums if they don’t get their way. But the RNC’s proposals are intrusive and one-sided. They would impose on the neutrality of the Commission by impacting the composition of its members, dictating the dates of the debates, intervening in the selection of debate moderators, and enacting punishments for violations of the terms that the RNC is insisting on.

Clearly the RNC is doing this on Trump’s behalf. No other candidate has objected to the CPD’s rules or fairness for thirty years. But the RNC is worried that without these reforms Trump would likely embarrass himself again, and he and the RNC know that. He has demonstrated that he cannot face any encounter that isn’t rigged to his advantage. It’s why he won’t submit to any interviews that aren’t conducted by his pals at Fox News or other similarly servile sycophants. He is mortally afraid of being challenged.

Trump recently canceled a phony “news” conference that he planned to hold on the anniversary of the January 6th insurrection. He also chickened out of his own challenge to debate any takers on his bogus claims about the 2020 election. And now he is directing his Republican Party apparatchiks to protect him from having to engage in an open and fair debate. It’s the coward’s way and, therefore, Trump’s way.

Tucker Carlson Emasculates Ted Cruz and Lies that ‘Not a Lot Happened’ on January 6th

One year ago, Donald Trump sent his glassy-eyed disciples on a mission to undermine American democracy in a violent attempt to cling to power and fulfill his authoritarian aspirations. What resulted was a deadly assault on Congress that put the lives its members – and even Trump’s vice-president – at dire risk of grave injury or worse.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Bullshit Factory

Trump’s January 6th insurrection will be remembered as among the darkest days of American history. Except, of course, by Trump and his treasonous cohorts. In fact, Trump has already responded to the observance of the anniversary of his coup attempt with exactly the sort of grotesquery for which he is so well known.

Meanwhile, Trump’s Ministry of Propaganda (aka Fox News) was on its own mission to keep its viewers pitifully ignorant and drenched in disinformation. On this solemn occasion, the narrative on Fox News was that there was no insurrection at all. Fox has adopted Trump’s wholly fictional framing of the horrific affair as “protest” by peaceful patriots. And the first order of business was to slap down any wayward Republicans who diverted from that doctrine.

At the forefront of this media spin cycle was Tucker Carlson, Fox’s Senior White Nationalist. Carlson was aghast at hearing Sen. Ted Cruz describe the insurrection as “a terror attack.” And he let Cruz know it when the disobedient senator submitted himself for discipline. For his part, Cruz bent over with shameless contrition:

Carlson: You call this a terror attack when by no definition was it a terror attack. That was a lie. You told that lie on purpose and I’m wondering why you did.
Cruz: The way I phrased things yesterday, it was sloppy and, frankly, it was dumb.
Carlson: I don’t buy that. Whoa whoa whoa! I don’t buy that. […] Every word – you repeated that phrase. I do not believe that you used that accidentally. I just don’t! […]
Cruz: Tucker, I agree with you. It was a mistake to say that yesterday.
Carlson: I guess I just don’t believe you. And I mean that with respect.

Respect? Carlson repeatedly called Cruz a liar to his face, and Cruz agreed with him. Which shouldn’t surprise anyone who recalls that Cruz still became a Trump suck-up after Trump insulted his wife and accused his father of assassinating John F. Kennedy. This is pretty good evidence that Fox News is not the media arm of the Republican Party. but that the Republican Party is the political arm of Fox News.

As for Carlson’s assertion that the insurrection was by “no definition” a terrorist attack, he might want to check the Justice Department’s definition of terrorism that states that…

“The FBI defines terrorism, domestic or international, as the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a Government or civilian population in furtherance of political or social objectives.”

In other words, precisely what took place on January 6, 2021. However, while that exchange looks pretty awful for both Carlson and Cruz, it wasn’t the worst of Carlson’s blather. Prior to emasculating Cruz, Carlson constructed an alternate reality about the insurrection:

“If you take three steps back as historical events go, if we are being honest now, Jan. 6 barely rates as a footnote. Really not a lot happened that day if you think about it. The presidential election was not overturned, the Capitol was not destroyed, the government was not toppled, no matter what you may have heard. Not a single elected official was injured. […] None of the so-called insurrectionists had guns.”

“Not a lot happened?” Sure, if you regard five deaths, 140 injured police officers, $30 million in damage, and the stain on the constitutional principle of democratic self-governance as “not a lot.”

Carlson’s interpretation of the banality of the insurrection is preposterous and purposefully dishonest. Just because it failed doesn’t mean that it wasn’t profoundly destructive and a threat to the future of a free nation. Would Carlson say that “not a lot happened” if a man survived a heart attack while his house was on fire, just because he lived through it and the fire was eventually extinguished? In that analogy, quite a lot happened and the victim’s life was forever changed.

Perhaps a better analogy would be to ask Carlson how he would feel if a marauding mob invaded the Fox News offices, smashed through doors and windows, assaulted police and security, and vandalized property, while chanting “Hang Rupert Murdoch.”

What’s more, Carlson’s claim that “None of the so-called insurrectionists had guns,” was another flagrant lie. PolitiFact debunked that falsehood last year when Fox’s Maria Bartiromo and Trump were disgorging it:

“Court records and news reports show that many insurrectionists were armed, and several were charged with having firearms on Capitol grounds or stashed nearby while in Washington D.C. In addition, rioters had weapons other than firearms and used them during the attack.”

Finally, Carlson deliberately mangled what President Biden said in his January 6th speech:

“Biden told the country that, in fact, symbolically January 6th was worse than the Civil War. The American Civil War. That would be the war that killed more than a million people. January 6th was worse than that because somebody held a naughty flag.”

Of course, Biden never said that. And Carlson’s noxious trivialization of the congressional invasion as merely “naughty” is typical of his irredeemably deceitful character, or lack thereof. What Biden actually said was:

“Rioters rampaging, waving for the first time inside this Capitol a Confederate flag that symbolized the cause to destroy America, to rip us apart. Even during the Civil War, that never, ever happened. But it happened here in 2021.”

Biden wasn’t saying that the insurrection was worse than the Civil War. He was merely pointing out the Confederate rebels never managed to carry their flag into the seat of the U.S. government. Carlson knows that. He just wants to further drown his dimwitted viewers in lies and to keep them artificially enraged. All the better to send them into the next insurrection that Carlson surely wants see take place.
