SURPRISE! Those Who Trust Fox News, Newsmax, and OAN Believe the Most COVID Misinformation

From the first days of the COVID pandemic in America, Fox News has sought to downplay its severity. They disparaged mitigation efforts such as wearing masks and social distancing. They promoted quack cures such as bleach injections and horse dewormner. And they discouraged people from protecting themselves and others by getting vaccinated. They have, in effect, turned the viral crisis into the Fox News Pandemic.

Fox News, Fake News

A new study by the Kaiser Family Foundation has revealed further confirmation of the devastating damage that Fox News and other right-wing media have wrought on the American people:

The study asked respondents whether they believed a set of known falsehoods about the coronavirus. They included that…

  • The government is exaggerating the number of COVID-19 deaths
  • Pregnant women should not get the COVID-19 vaccine
  • Deaths due to the COVID-19 vaccine are being intentionally hidden by the government
  • The COVID-19 vaccines have been shown to cause infertility
  • Ivermectin is a safe and effective treatment for COVID-19
  • You can get COVID-19 from the vaccine
  • The COVID-19 vaccines contain a microchip
  • The COVID-19 vaccines can change your DNA.

Not surprisingly, three times as many Republicans (46%) believe four or more of the false statements than Democrats (14%). And the groups most likely to believe the most misinformation are viewers of Fox News (36%), One America News (37%), and Newsmax (46%).

What’s more, the study found that Democrats trust COVID information from a broad variety of news sources including local TV (66%), network news (72%), CNN (65%), MSNBC (56%), and NPR (51%). Republicans, on the other hand, have trust that is almost entirely limited to Fox News (49%). And consumers of conservative news sources generally are far more likely to believe the most misinformation. While viewers who don’t believe any of the false statements is about 40% for CNN, MSNBC, network news, and NPR, that drops to 20% for OAN, 14% for Newsmax, and only 12% of Fox News viewers believe none of the blatant falsehoods.

The findings in the Kaiser study are closely aligned with related studies that show that those who rely on Fox News for information are significantly more at risk for contracting COVID than those who do not. It’s why almost 40% of Republican adults remain unvaccinated, compared with about 10% of Democratic adults.

Trusting Fox News, therefore, is literally dangerous to your health, as well as that of your family, your community, and your nation. And that’s true with respect to COVID, as well as the lies Fox tells about climate change, education, election fraud, the economy, healthcare, and any other issue that impacts the lives of the American people. The only thing that Fox News is interested in is advancing its agenda of greed and evangelical conservatism. No matter how many people are harmed.

COVID Gets Even Redder, While Trump Worries More About Windmills (Not) Killing Birds

An exhaustive analysis of COVID-19 data by David Leonhardt of the New York Times has found that the efforts of right-wing media like Fox News to deceive their audience about the coronavirus have been remarkably effective. The result confirms previous studies that show that those who rely on Fox News for information are significantly more at risk for contracting COVID than those who do not.

Donald Trump, Coronavirus

The article in the Times is validation that trusting Fox News is dangerous to your health, as well as that of your family, your community, and your nation. Leonhardt goes into detail in the article, but he summarized some of his findings in a handy Twitter thread beginning here (with some key points following):

“The true explanation is straightforward: The vaccines are remarkably effective at preventing severe COVID, and almost 40 percent of Republican adults remain unvaccinated, compared with about 10 percent of Democratic adults, per @KHNews polls.”

“As a result, COVID deaths have been concentrated in counties outside of major metropolitan areas. Many of these are in red states, while others are in red parts of blue or purple states.”

“This situation is a tragedy, in which irrational fears about vaccine side effects have overwhelmed rational fears about a deadly virus.”

“It stems from disinformation — promoted by right-wing media, like Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News, the Sinclair Broadcast Group and online sources.”

“[C]onservative Americans will probably continue to suffer an outsized amount of unnecessary illness and death.”

This is indeed a tragic situation. And the problem is not limited to conservatives and Fox News viewers. Their stubborn refusal to accept the science has the potential of allowing the virus to mutant into new variants that are vaccine resistant. So they are putting everyone else at risk to satisfy their partisan blindness and selfishness. What’s more, they are preventing businesses and schools from fully opening up so that we can return to some semblance of normalcy.

In the meantime, Donald Trump has not even mentioned this matter, even though it is affecting his supporters more than anyone else. But he did have the time to tweet (via his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill) that energy generating windmill turbines are “Destroying our oceans, landscapes, and birds!” He forgot to mention his ludicrous belief that they also cause cancer.

Trump’s tweet linked to a three week old article in the New York Times about the Biden administration’s plans “to build 30,000 megawatts of offshore wind in the United States by 2030.” The article said nothing about birds. That was another of Trump’s tropes that has no basis in reality, but which he frequently repeats to keep his cult disciples in a perpetual state of fear. For the record, according to the Sierra Club

“Estimates of up to a million or more birds a year are killed by turbines in the US, but that is far exceeded by collisions with communications towers (6.5 million); power lines, (25 million); windows (up to 1 billion); and cats (1.3 to 4.0 billion); and those lost due to habitat loss, pollution and climate change (American Bird Conservancy, Nature). Even if there were twenty times more wind turbines, enough to supply the US with electricity, the number of birds killed, assuming no improvement in wind turbine design, would be about 10 million–still far less than most other causes of bird deaths.”

So apparently Trump is more worried about his false notion that windmills are killing an excessive amount of birds, than he is about COVID actually killing people – particularly Republicans, the people who he purports to represent and who worship him. It’s a grotesque mangling of priorities that rests on a foundation of lies.

And if that weren’t bad enough, Trump and his GOP confederates are so utterly incapable of responding to the recent good news for Democrats and America (infrastructure bill, jobs report, climate conference, COVID decline), that they are resorting to attacking (the fictional) Big Bird of Sesame Street for having the audacity to educate children about vaccines. There goes his pretense about caring for birds.

Liz Cheney Calls Tucker Carlson’s ‘False Flag’ Lies ‘Un-American’ and ‘Dangerous’ – On Fox News!

Last week the Fox News Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson, outdid himself by presenting an elaborate propaganda video about Donald Trump’s January 6th insurrection in Washington, D.C. Carlson’s crocumentary, “Patriot Purge” (or as CNN’s Jim Acosta retitled it, “Proud Boy Porn”,) was riddled with flagrant falsehoods and nauseating exaltations of the seditious Capitol rioters as heroes.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, STFU

Carlson sought to absolve Trump’s violent crusaders, and even worse, to justify them, by alleging that the whole thing was a “false flag” operation orchestrated by the FBI, something he has been yammering about for months. And his Fox News produced propaganda pic was universally rejected as garbage.

On Sunday Carlson took another hit from a staunchly conservative member of Congress, Liz Cheney. She was interviewed by Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday where she expressed her opinion of Carlson’s wankery:

Wallace: There is talk now that January 6th was a “false flag” operation. that it was a case of liberals and the “deep state” setting up conservatives and Trump supporters. Is there any truth to that?
Cheney: None at all. You know, it’s the same kind of thing that you hear from people who say that 9/11 was an inside job, for example. It is un-American to be spreading those kinds of lies, and they are lies. And we have an obligation that goes beyond partisanship, an obligation that we share – Democrats and Republicans together – to make sure that we understand every single piece of the facts about what happened that day and to make sure the people who did it are held accountable. And to call it a false flag operation and spread those kind lies is dangerous.

Cheney has been a reliable voice of reason from within a Republican Party dominated by Trump cult followers and brazenly dishonest purveyors of partisan bullpucky. She is a member of the House Select Committee investigating January 6th, and she rejects Trump’s “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged” and “stolen” from him.

Cheney didn’t mince words in her appraisal of Carlson. She openly and aptly denounced him as “un-American” and “dangerous.” That said, it is still a bit jarring to hear her righteous condemnation of Carlson, and to hear it on the same network that sponsors his deceitful disinformation. Cheney couldn’t have chosen a better platform to reveal Carlson’s scumbaggery. Carlson, however, is an easily triggered crybaby who frequently lashes out at his critics. So it will be interesting to see if he attacks Fox News or Chris Wallace for hosting this interview.

On the same program, White House Senior Advisor, Cedric Richmond, was asked by Fox’s Bill Hemmer about a blatantly partisan question that Fox’s Peter Doocy asked President Biden. Doocy’s question callously suggested that migrant families might be incentivized to come to the U.S. and have their children taken away in order to get compensated financially. Richmond replied that…

“The question was from a Fox reporter asking about whether compensation for being separated and losing a child would be an incentive to come to America. And what he was saying, that was an absurd question from the beginning. No one is coming somewhere to lose their child, to be separated from their loved one. And the question is so insensitive, disrespectful that that’s what he was commenting to. And I would ask the question of you, whether you support that?”

So Fox News got called out on Fox News twice in the same day. That isn’t going to make much difference in the great scheme of things. Fox will continue to be the primary media mouthpiece for ultra-rightist politicians and policies. But it’s encouraging to see these rare crumbs of truth slip through their conservative filter from time to time.

TYRANNY! Fox News Boss Rupert Murdoch Forced His 90th Birthday Party Guests to Be Vaccinated

Several weeks ago President Biden announced his Path out of the Pandemic: COVID-19 Action Plan to save lives and return the country to some semblance of normalcy. The plan proposed to encourage vaccinations within large companies by requiring that their employees either be vaccinated or tested weekly. It was received with broad-based approval by significant majorities of the American people, according to a poll by Fox News no less.

Rupert Murdoch, COVID

Despite the overwhelming popularity of Biden’s plan, Fox News continued its anti-vax propaganda crusade with their top primetime hosts disseminating flagrant falsehoods and dangerous disinformation. They peddled quack cures while claiming that the vaccines don’t work.

In the weeks since Biden’s plan was introduced, and disregarding the results of their own poll, Fox News has escalated their rhetoric in opposition to the Biden administration’s sensible measures to mitigate the harm of the COVID pandemic. They characterized them as communist decrees and instruments of tyranny. Never mind that Fox News imposed an even stricter mandate than the one in Biden’s plan.

However, for some reason, until recently, Fox News yakkers never bothered to mention the “draconian” mandate under which they themselves are forced to toil. Nor did they disclose that they are all vaccinated. And that failure to be honest with their viewers was just compounded by Fox’s CEO, Rupert Murdoch. According to Politico

“While some of the biggest talent at Fox News have skeptical views of Covid-19 vaccines, News Corp. honcho RUPERT MURDOCH is not messing around. At his 90th birthday party last week at Tavern on the Green, guests not only had to show proof of vaccination, they had to get a rapid nose swab test in order to enter.”

So not only did Murdoch’s elite guests have to present their vaccine “passport,” a concept that the squawking heads at Fox News routinely describe as totalitarian oppression, they also had to submit to a physically intrusive COVID test. And, of course, Murdoch’s coercive party mandate will never be reported on Fox News.

That’s because the network cares less about human lives than it does about its ultra-rightist agenda. And it’s why studies show that Fox News viewers are more likely to be unvaccinated, and thus, more likely to become infected. Which is why we might as well call this the Fox News Pandemic.

CRTeed Off: Tucker Carlson Admits that He Doesn’t Know WTF He’s Talking About

Tucker Carlson may be the most dangerous, racist, neo-fascist, demagogue on American television. His nightly tirades on Fox News are riddled with flagrant falsehoods, hateful histrionics, and crackpot conspiracy theories. Which explains how he became the face of Fox News and the primary architect of its editorial policy.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Bullshit Factory

Carlson’s rancid rhetoric has recently focused on his preposterous and evidence-free assertion that Donald Trump’s insurrection on January 6th was a “false flag” operation. He has also been promoting the grossly racist “white replacement theory.” And he relentlessly spreads deadly disinformation about the COVID pandemic.

However, on Wednesday evening Carlson made a surprising confession when discussing the Republican Party’s latest manufactured controversy, critical race theory (CRT). Carlson admitted that…

“I’ve never figured out what critical race theory is, to be totally honest, after a year of talking about it. They’re teaching that some races are morally superior to others, that some are inherently sinful and some are inherently saintly, and that’s immoral to teach that ’cause it’s wrong. That would be my view, and I think most voters’ view.”

So Carlson finally tells his viewers the truth about his ignorance of a subject that he’s been seething about hysterically for more than a year. Yet in the same breath he pretends to “know” that CRT teaches moral superiority. Which is not remotely related to the actual study of CRT. For the record, CRT is a field of study of that is defined as an “attempt to understand how victims of systemic racism are affected by cultural perceptions of race.” Carlson went on to say that…

“Schools are teaching your children that some races are inherently superior to other races. That’s the definition of racism, that some children are born with the stain of sin, inherently. That’s Nazi stuff.”

It’s cute that Carlson brings up “Nazi stuff,” a subject with which he is intimately familiar as it represents the core of his personal philosophy. Although he may not be the best person to complain about teaching that “some races are inherently superior to other races” when he so frequently exalts his European heritage over that of the “dirty” invaders he fears are being imported to replace him. And as a professed “Christian,” Carlson better reread his bible to bone up on that business about being “born with the stain of [original] sin.”

This would be a good time to remind everyone that Carlson was defended in a defamation case by his own Fox News lawyers, who successfully argued that “given Mr. Carlson’s reputation, any reasonable viewer ‘arrive[s] with an appropriate amount of skepticism’ about the statements he makes.” Unfortunately, there aren’t any reasonable viewers in Carlson’s audience to be skeptical of his wretched reputation. Just a bunch of Deplorables who believe everything repulsive he says.

Biden Trashes Fox News Hack for ‘Garbage’ Question About Immigrant Children

President Biden announced on Wednesday that children 5-11 can begin receiving the vaccination for COVID-19. It’s a significant step toward protecting all Americans and restoring some semblance of normalcy as kids return to school.

Fox News, Joe Biden, Fake News

After the announcement, the President took questions from the press. And true to form, Fox News’ White Correspondent, Peter Doocy, managed to swerve so far off course he ended up in a landfill in another county. The exchange began with Biden having a little fun at Doocy’s expense, saying “This ought to be good,” as he called on him. And then they engaged in the following exchange:

Doocy: About the way forward, Mr. President, as you were leaving for your overseas trip there were reports that were surfacing that your administration is planning to pay illegal immigrants who were separated from their families at the border up to $450,000 each, possibly $1 million per family. Do you think that that might incentivize more people to come over illegally?
Biden: If you guys keep sending that garbage out, yeah. But it’s not true.
Doocy: So this is a garbage report?
Biden: Yeah. $450,000 per person, is that what you are saying?
Doocy: That were separated from a family member under the last administration.
Biden: That’s not going to happen.

It’s curious that Doocy would even bring up the subject of how Donald Trump enacted policies that resulted in more than 5,600 children being ripped from their parents with no process in place to keep track of them or to reunite the families. It’s a crime against humanity that was designed purposefully to punish innocent babies.

Biden’s response characterized Doocy’s question perfectly. It is a “garbage” assertion to raise the matter of compensation for the families that were harmed without acknowledging that such compensation would only be paid as the result of litigation or settlement by the victimized parties.

Biden could have been more clear about that in his response, but he was likely more interested in preventing Doocy’s false premise from becoming perceived as factual. The truth is that

“Thousands of migrant parents and children separated from each other at the U.S. border by Trump administration policies may soon be eligible for hundreds of thousands of dollars per person in compensation, according to three sources familiar with ongoing negotiations in a lawsuit brought on behalf of separated families.” […]

“The talks are part of negotiations between the Justice Department and lawyers representing the separated families in a number of tort cases that have claimed the families experienced harm when they were forcibly separated.”

There hasn’t been any dollar amount agreed to. However, if/when there is, it will surely far less than the potential judgment awarded should the matter go to trial. So the Biden administration’s solution will undoubtedly save hundreds of millions of dollars, while still having the decency to provide compensation so that the families can heal.

Biden’s response also noted the ludicrous suggestion that any compensation “might incentivize more people to come over illegally.” Doocy knows that the only people who would be eligible for compensation are those whose families were torn apart by Trump’s sadistic policies. So he seems to think that having your family destroyed would be appealing to migrants who are fleeing the poverty and violence that was traumatizing them in their home countries.

Fox News and Republicans have been at the forefront of encouraging migrants to come to the U.S. They have repeatedly advertised the fallacy of “open borders” with the intention that it draw migrants whom they they could then condemn for coming here.

So while the Biden administration is discouraging people from coming to the U.S., Fox News is making it sound like they will get free entry and cash bonuses for doing so. And all of this so that they can blame Biden because the migrants believed what Fox News told them. If anyone should be paying compensation it’s Fox News.

Newsmax and OAN Added to Smartmatic’s Billion Dollar Lawsuit for Pushing Trump’s ‘Big Lie’

The fallout from Donald Trump’s relentless crusade to spin his humiliating loss to Joe Biden as a “rigged” election continues to deliver consequences to those aiding and abetting its dissemination. It has already resulted in a multibillion dollar defamation lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems against Fox News, Trump attorneys Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, as well as Mike Lindell, the infamous MyPillow Guy.

Donald Trump, Fox News, Fake

Dominion’s lawsuit wasn’t the only one seeking to hold Trump’s “Big Lie” spreaders accountable for their reckless slander. Earlier this year Smartmatic, a voting software company, filed a similar lawsuit against Fox News, along with their accomplices Lou Dobbs, Maria Bartiromo, and Jeanine Pirro. Their filing is a thrilling must read that outlines the depravity Fox & Company. And now Smartmatic has invited more guests to their legal party. CNN is reporting that Smartmatic “is now adding Newsmax and One America News Network to the list of defendants.” Their filing charges that…

“Despite claims to provide viewers with honest, unbiased reporting, these outlets victimized Smartmatic by spreading false information about the company following last year’s election, all in their efforts to increase viewership and revenue.” [and that…]

“The lawsuit charged that Newsmax ‘published dozens of reports indicating that Smartmatic participated in a criminal conspiracy to rig and steal the 2020 U.S. election and that its technology and software were used to switch votes from former President Trump to now President Biden.'” [and that…]

“The first time it happened could be a mistake. The second, third, fourth and fiftieth times it happened were intentional choices,” the lawyers wrote. “OANN had every opportunity to do the right thing after the 2020 election for President and Vice President of the United States. It could have reported the truth. Instead, OANN chose to do the wrong thing every time. It reported a lie.”

There has been some blowback suffered by the “Big Lie” propagandists. Fox News has had to alter their programming to avoid further legal liability. And also here. Trump’s lead libelist, Rudy Giuliani, has been banned from Fox News. Nevertheless, Trump is still trying to bully Fox into reporting his election falsehoods. Meanwhile, Trump is slobbering all over OAN for sucking up to him:

“You guys are amazing,” he drooled. “So many people are watching what you’re doing. The election fraud of 2020 is the single biggest thing they want to watch, and other networks don’t put it on because they’re afraid to put it on.”

However, even OAN has exhibited some nervousness about stepping out too far onto Trump’s limp limb. In February they ran a hysterical disclaimer prior to airing a crockumentary by Lindell that promised to provide “Absolute Proof” of voter fraud (It didn’t).

It will be interesting to see how they behave now that Smartmatic has named them in their lawsuit. But we can easily predict how Trump will behave. He has always been – and is now – incapable of rising above his infantile and hostile tendencies. So, unfortunately, it will be more of the same going forward. And hopefully the future will see Trump himself added to the list of defendants.

UPDATE 1/20/2022: MyPillow guy, Mike Lindell is now also being sued by Smartmatic for defamation.

UPDATE 4/17/2024: Smartmatic settled with OAN in a confidential agreement that ended the litigation.

Tucker Carlson Throws a Paranoid Fit Over the WaPo Exposé on the January 6th Insurrection

Fox News Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson, has been slipping deeper into a psychotic swamp of conspiracy crackpottery in recent weeks. He has affirmed his total indoctrination into the cult of Donald Trump by subscribing to the lies that the 2020 presidential election was “stolen,” that immigrants are plotting to take over America, and that the COVID pandemic was a hoax.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson

Most recently Carlson has gotten on board with Trump’s disinformation about the January 6th insurrection in Washington, D.C. He even produced a crock documentary advancing the ludicrous theory that the storming of the Capitol was a “false flag”operation orchestrated by the “Deep State.” Carlson released a trailer for his “Patriot Purge” propaganda this week (or as CNN’s Jim Acosta calls it, “Proud Boy Porn”) that is rife with blatant lies and purposefully incendiary rhetoric intended to incite further violence.

However, on Monday Carlson demonstrated that he is also suffering from an acute case of narcissistic paranoia. He appeared on Fox and Friends to promote his crockumentary with fellow Fox wingnut, Brian Kilmeade. Carlson began with an inadvertently truthful statement that “The intentional creation of a dishonest explanation for that day began within hours.” Indeed, that’s precisely what Carlson and the rest of his Fox News comrades did. Then, getting to the meat of his lunacy, he declared that “There was no evidence it was an organized insurrection, an attempt to overcome the U.S. government.”

Never mind that the organized assault on the government was all televised live. And forget that on January 6th Trump was still president in charge of the Justice Department and the FBI that Carlson says is guilty of infiltrating the ranks of his own rioting supporters. And for additional confirmation that it was the result of a carefully planned coup attempt, the Washington Post published an in depth investigation into what happened on January 6th, and the clandestine activities of Trump and his co-conspirators that led up to it.

In response to the Washington Post article, Carlson expressed his utterly delusional belief that it was a reaction to the trailer for his video fictionalization of the Capitol riots. In this abridged transcript of his exchange with Kilemeade (full video below) he asserted that…

Carlson: Several months ago, we sent a group of reporters out to really forensically dig into this. What happened? What are the facts of that day? […] The Washington Post put 75 reporters – 75 reporters – on a rebuttal piece to our documentary, which they hadn’t seen.” […]

Kilmeade: Tucker, as you point out too, the FBI will infiltrate groups whether it’s the mob or Al Qaeda and they’ll try to be one of them and unwind the plot before it takes place. Do you think maybe, perhaps, and maybe you don’t want to give away your series, you find indications that the FBI was actually pushing for this invasion?
Carlson: There were people working for the FBI in the crowd that day. We said that months ago on our nighttime show, hysteria ensued, it turns out to be true. […] The Washington Post spent 75 reporters time rebutting a trailer tells you they don’t want you to know what actually happened. They’re hysterical

Carlson did accuse the FBI of “orchestrating” the violence against Congress months ago. It was just as crazy and unfounded then, as it is now. But he goes even further down the rabid hole with his bizarre claim that the Washington Post’s article was a rebuttal to his pro-domestic terrorism video. The truth is that The Post was working on their story for months before Carlson even contemplated his project. How Carlson can suggest with his confused and constipated smirk that The Post had him in mind when researching and writing their elaborate exposé is laughable. It’s evidence of how profoundly disturbed, self-obsessed, and racked with irrational fear of persecution Carlson is. Does that remind you of anyone?

Speaking of Donald Trump, he had his own reaction to The Post’s article, which they would only publish a portion of, saying that it was…

“…a lengthy written response that included a series of unrelated, inflammatory claims that The Post is not publishing in full. […] He disputed The Post’s investigation as ‘fake news’ and falsely cast people who entered the Capitol on Jan. 6 as ‘agitators not associated with President Trump.’ The statement repeated Trump’s false claim that the 2020 election was rigged.”

So Trump couldn’t control his Liar’s Tourette’s Syndrome and The Post justifiably condensed it. But Trump did manage to express his tediously familiar, anti-constitutional view that “there is no greater threat to America than leftist journalists and the Fake News.” Because he can’t open his mouth without that canard coming out. And he confirmed that he and Carlson are both suffering from the same sort of neuroses. Apparently it’s going around in Trump World.

Fox News Whacko Warning to America: ‘You’re Gonna End Up with Mom and Pop at Gitmo’

As the political landscape in America becomes ever more mired in the hatred and division of Donald Trump’s demagoguery, Fox News is creeping ever farther out onto the limb of ludicrous lies and malicious mania. This week for instance, Fox’s Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson, is debuting his crocumentary that glorifies the January 6th insurrection as an act of patriotism.

Fox News, Titanic

On Monday morning Fox News took another step into the bizarro world beyond. Host Harris Faulkner interviewed Arizona’s Republican Attorney General and Senate candidate, Mark Brnovich. The subject was the completely manufactured controversy over school curriculum and the hostilities of right-wing agitators at school board meetings.

Brnovich sought to present some well coordinated disinformation about efforts by the Department of Justice to respond to the threats of violence aimed at school board members and teachers made by many of the wingnut attendees of these meetings. Attorney General Merrick Garland specifically directed his initiative to those who were overtly intimidating and violating the law. But the Fox News narrative twisted it into something else entirely, falsely alleging that it infringed on free speech. Which led to this exchange between Faulkner and Brnovich:

Brnovich: Joe Biden and Merrick Garland essentially want to weaponize, or continue to weaponize the Department of Justice. And just because parents are exercising their constitutional rights to speak out against critical race theory, or even vaccine mandates, does not make them domestic terrorists. And if we allow the Biden administration to continue this, god forbid, you’re gonna end up with mom and pop at Gitmo. Think about how outrageous that is.
Faulkner: That is outrageous. Could that really happen?
Brnovich: We are living in a time where we all need to make sure that we are protecting our constitutional rights on every single level. From the local school board level, to state, and especially on the federal level.
Faulkner: That’s interesting, because you say one leads to the other. That sounds like a slippery slope, which is how you got there.

“Mom and pop at Gitmo?” Really? Brnovich appears to be suffering from an acute case of delusional paranoia. This is a remark that is solely intended to stir irrational fears in the minds of Fox’s already terrified viewers. Garland was not calling parents who were expressing their views “domestic terrorists.” He was addressing only those who actually engaged in acts of violence and intimidation. Brnovich knows that. And so does Faulkner, whose servile response was to agree with Brnovich and ask incredulously if incarcerating innocent parents at Guantanamo Bay could really happen. They know this is pure bullpucky because Garland said in plain terms that he was addressing…

“…a disturbing spike in harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence against school administrators, board members, teachers, and staff who participate in the vital work of running our nation’s public schools. […] The obligation of the Justice Department is to protect the American people against violence and threats of violence and that particularly includes public officials.”

These are the depths to which Fox News is sinking. They have no coherent case to make for their ultra-conservative agenda, so they are winging it with preposterous allegations of shipping parents off to island prisons. What’s more, they can’t rely on Trump anymore since he’s out of office and exiled from social media. Plus, he spends more time attacking Fox News than promoting it, as he did last week. These are (hopefully) the last dying breaths of a propaganda machine that is wallowing in desperation.

Lying Liar Trump Brags About His ‘Successful’ Political Endorsements on Fox News

The evidence of Donald Trump’s malignant narcissism has been well documented over the past five years. No matter what else is going on in the world, Trump manages to see it only in terms of how it relates to him. Trump Lies

Trump’s derangement has not subsided at all in the year since he was evicted from the White House. If anything, it’s gotten more severe. And he exhibited another symptom of it Fox News Saturday night during an interview with Fox’s Senior Trump-Fluffer, Jeanne Pirro. During a discussion about his place in the political landscape, Trump had the following exchange with Pirro:

Trump: If I endorse somebody they win. I think I’m 148 and 2. That’s a pretty good number.
Pirro: You endorsed Youngkin?
Trump: I did Endorse Youngkin. And I hope it’s not gonna be three.

It’s always a mystery as to where Trump gets the information he regurgitates. Well, perhaps “mystery” isn’t the right word. More often than not he simply makes it up as he goes along. So, unsurprisingly, Trump is flagrantly lying about his endorsement scorecard.

The truth is that he has had a decidedly unimpressive record of endorsing winning candidates. He is likely including every Republican primary endorsement in his phony stats. Those would be irrelevant because only Republicans would be voting, and we know that he has a cult-like influence over them. Furthermore, he has a habit of making endorsements only in races where Republicans are already favored to win. Even so, it’s not a record that he can brag about. According to Ballotpedia:

In 2020…
Trump’s Senate endorsement tally was 18 and 5
In the House it was 116 to 33
For governor it was 4 to 1 (The 4 wins were in ND, MT, WV, MO)

In 2018…
Trump’s Senate endorsement tally was 10 and 10
In the House it was 29 to 20
For governor it was 10 to 9

So just for those two election cycles Trump’s record was 187 to 78. That’s a long ways from 148 to 2. And it is weighted in his favor by his selection of races in red districts and states where the Republican was already heavily favored to win. And it should not be forgotten that his single term in office saw Democrats take the majority in the House and the Senate, and win the presidency by a decisive margin.

That is not a record that any rational politician would boast about. But the operative word there is “rational.” Trump is anything but that. He is a rare form of pathological liar who after a lifetime has never developed any skill at it. But what’s worse is that are people who fall for his obvious bullpucky. They may be a small minority, but they are still an embarrassment to our species.
