Trump’s Irrelevance is Increasing, as are His Pitifully Delusional Attempts to Pretend it’s Not

Donald Trump has resumed his scheduling of the MAGA cult rallies that bring together America’s Most Gullible. He’s already held four of them this year. But the attendance and enthusiasm that he once enjoyed has visibly declined as his repetitive shtick gets tedious and unbearable, even for his glassy-eyed disciples.

Donald Trump Pacifier Fox

There are reports that the crowds at Trump’s ego-fluffing affairs are shrinking, with many of his fickle flock leaving while he’s still on stage raving about his alleged genius or ranting about being a poor, wretched victim. He posted four tweets (via his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill) whining that the “Fake News” was misreporting the “massive crowd” at his latest rally in Georgia. For example…

We had a massive crowd last night in Georgia, but as usual, the Fake News Media absolutely refuses to show it. People are estimating 25,000 to 35,000 people.”

And…

Massive crowd last night in Georgia even despite the cold weather, the enthusiasm was unbelievable. David Perdue, running against horrendous Governor Brian Kemp, who let the Election be Rigged and Stolen, is seeing a very big surge.”

However, Newsweek collected reports from correspondents on the ground who told a very different story:

“[T]here’s probably no more than 5,000 people here [and that] People keep leaving during Trump’s speech. It’s cold and windy and there’s not much enthusiasm.”

In addition to that delusional misrepresentation of reality, Trump’s assertions about Republican gubernatorial candidate David Perdue, who Trump endorsed in fit of vengeance after the incumbent governor, Brian Kemp, refused to go along with Trump’s “Big Lie” that the 2020 election was “rigged,” are wildly off kilter. Trump tweeted that…

“David Perdue, who is a wonderful man, and incredible family, and really got screwed by Kemp, is the only candidate in this race who can beat Stacey ‘the hoax’ Abrams this November. And you know the reason for that is because Trump voters — MAGA — Trump voters will not go out and vote for Kemp. They’re not going to vote. And let’s say it’s gonna be a close election. I happen to think that Georgia is a very red state. I think it’s red as hell”

Trump is effectively encouraging a voter boycott by Trumpian Republicans if his anointed candidate loses in the GOP primary. “Okay, fine,” say Georgia’s Democrats. Trump has already exposed himself to legal liabilities for trying to intimidate Georgia’s elected officials into “finding” (i.e. fabricating) enough votes for him to overturn the election in the state. And that’s only one of the civil and criminal cases that are pending against him.

RELATED: LISTEN: Trump Threatens Georgia Officials For Not Helping Him Subvert the Election

Unfortunately for Trump, Perdue, who lost his Senate seat last year to Democrat Jon Ossoff, isn’t turning out to be the savior that Trump was hoping for. In the latest poll of the race between Perdue and Kemp, Perdue is trailing by double digits.

So Trump’s influence in electoral endorsements is decidedly weakening. And his appeal to the cult members who populate his rallies is declining. That leaves only his social media presence that has been curtailed by his having been banned from most of the major platforms (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube). And the effort to launch his own Twitter clone is such a failure that even he doesn’t use it. And yet he is still trying desperately to present an image of success amidst his impotent flops. It’s almost too pathetic to watch. Almost.

UPDATE: An April 9 rally in North Carolina also failed to draw much attendance. Even Trump’s cult followers are bored with his repetitive shtick.

Fox News Spurns Ukrainians Coming to the US Because ‘They’re Doing Great for a Group of War Refugees’

From the onset of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Fox News has staked out a deplorable, inhumane, and anti-American position in favor of Vladimir Putin’s genocidal assault on a peaceful neighbor. It’s been so blatant that Russia’s foreign minister went out of his way to praise the network saying that “only Fox News is trying to present some alternative point of view.”

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News Sad

Praise for Putin is not, however, an “alternative view” on Fox News. It is the official editorial doctrine of the network and its most watched programs. Tucker Carlson has argued fiercely in support of Russia over Ukraine, and more specifically – and despicably – in favor of Putin continuing his reign of brutal tyranny.

Not to be outdone, Carlson’s fellow hate monger, Laura Ingraham, presided over a profoundly insensitive segment on Friday night’s episode of her White Nationalist Hour. In a discussion about the refugee crisis stemming from the war in Ukraine, Ingraham interviewed Todd Bensman of the far-right, racist, and notoriously anti-immigrant Center for Immigration Studies. Ingraham began her loathsome discourse with a wholly disingenuous appeal for compassion (video below):

“The Biden administration announced yesterday that we would welcome 100,000 Ukrainian refugees. Obviously, our hearts break for the people in Ukraine. It is absolutely horrific what has happened to them. But is bringing them all the way to the United States in their best interest? And what about the U.S. taxpayers?”

It is, indeed “horrific” what has happened to the Ukrainian people, which is the direct result of the foreign policy advocated by Fox News. Ingraham went on to preface her first question with the assertion that it is “a fable that these Ukrainian war refugees desperately need American sanctuary.” Benson replied that…

“There’s really no reason whatsoever for Ukrainians to be coming to our border or for us to be bringing in huge swells, numbers of Ukrainians here. They’re doing great for a group of war refugees.”

WTF? The three million plus refugees pouring into Poland and other nations are suffering unimaginable hardships, despite the goodhearted intentions of the countries welcoming them. They are living in tents, if they’re lucky, and are struggling to obtain food, medicine, and other necessities. How is that by any stretch of a diseased imagination “doing great”? Bensman went on to say that…

“It’s utterly unnecessary to do this. I understand the plight, I think we all understand, that these are definitely a victimized nationality. But remember, we also have a lot of Ukrainians smuggling or flying into Mexico and coming up to our southern border. That’s the one I worry about the most, because our southern border is utterly collapsing right now.”

So in addition to trivializing the misery of the Ukrainian refugees, Bensman managed to twist this discussion into one of Fox’s favorite right-wing propaganda topics, America’s southern border. He seems to be arguing that we still need a border wall to keep out the Ukrainians. However, he’s actually making a good case for more compassion for the Latin American refugees who are also fleeing hostilities and poverty in their home countries.

Something that both Ingraham and Bensman have neglected to consider are the reasons that the U.S. is offering to help Ukrainians. Those reasons are clearly stated in the White House Fact Sheet on the subject, if they had bothered to read it:

“While we expect many Ukrainians will choose to remain in Europe close to family and their homes in Ukraine, today, the United States is announcing plans to welcome up to 100,000 Ukrainians and others fleeing Russia’s aggression through the full range of legal pathways, including the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. In particular, we are working to expand and develop new programs with a focus on welcoming Ukrainians who have family members in the United States.”

So this policy seeks to take some of the burden off of Ukraine’s neighbors who are already doing so much to help. But in addition to that, it is uniting refugees with family members in the U.S. Not that that is something that Fox News or Republicans give a damn about considering their record of ripping families from south of the border apart. It’s all just a continuation of the right’s platform of hate and division. And it’s no less than what we expect of them.

Fox News Totally Ignores Story About Ginni Thomas Texting QAnon Nuttery to Mark Meadows

The Fruitcake Faction of Donald Trump’s Republican Party (which is most of it these days) continues to venture ever further over the edge of sanity. On Thursday the Washington Post and CBS News released a series of text messages exchanged between Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, and Trump’s then-Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows. The content of these messages is profoundly disturbing and evidence of severe mental rot.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, QAnon Logo

Ginni Thomas has long been an ultra-conservative activist. But these text messages make it clear that she has crawled much farther out on the QAnon limb than previously thought. This is critically important because her husband is a sitting justice on the Supreme Court and in a position to rule on election related matters.

Despite the obvious risk of undue political influence and bias, Fox News has not mentioned any of it in their reporting on Friday. They did manage to report on a hysterically bogus lawsuit filed by Trump against Hillary Clinton and some forty-plus others. And they are still beating the Hunter Biden story that is wholly bereft of any factual basis. And they have plenty of time to malign President Biden while he is overseas in support of Ukraine against Trump’s BFF Vladimir Putin. But covering the wife of a Supreme Court Justice who is up to her eyebrows in seditionist coup plotting is too much to ask of Fox News.

So for the record, what follows are the some of text messages that Thomas and Meadows wrote one another:

Thomas: Help This Great President stand firm, Mark!!!…You are the leader, with him, who is standing for America’s constitutional governance at the precipice. The majority knows Biden and the Left is attempting the greatest Heist of our History.

Meadows: This is a fight of good versus evil. Evil always looks like the victor until the King of Kings triumphs. Do not grow weary in well doing. The fight continues. I have staked my career on it. Well at least my time in DC on it.”

Thomas: Thank you!! Needed that! This plus a conversation with my best friend just now… I will try to keep holding on. America is worth it!

Thomas: Watermarked ballots in over 12 states have been part of a huge Trump & military white hat sting operation in 12 key battleground states.

Thomas: Biden crime family & ballot fraud co-conspirators (elected officials, bureaucrats, social media censorship mongers, fake stream media reporters, etc) are being arrested & detained for ballot fraud right now & over coming days, & will be living in barges off GITMO to face military tribunals for sedition.

Thomas: Do not concede. It takes time for the army who is gathering for his back.

Thomas: Mark, I wanted to text you and tell you for days you are in my prayers!! Help This Great President stand firm” and invoking “the greatest Heist of our History. Listen to Rush. Mark Steyn, Bongino, Cleta.

Meadows: I will stand firm. We will fight until there is no fight left. Our country is too precious to give up on. Thanks for all you do.

Thomas: House and Senate guys are pathetic too… only 4 GOP House members seen out in street rallies with grassroots… Gohmert, Jordan, Gosar, and Roy.

Thomas: Sounds like Sidney [Powell] and her team are getting inundated with evidence of fraud. Make a plan. Release the Kraken and save us from the left taking America down.

Thomas: We are living through what feels like the end of America. […] Amazing times. The end of Liberty.

None of that is considered to be newsworthy by Fox “News.” They just don’t think their dimwitted audience of Trump cultists need to know that the wife of a Supreme Court justice was discussing overthrowing American democracy with Trump’s Chief of Staff. But that shouldn’t surprise anyone. That’s just how they keep their viewers mired in ignorance and eager to sign on to whatever idiocy Trump is disgorging.

Trump’s Loopy Lawsuit Against Hillary Clinton and ‘Her Cohorts’ Reads Like Sleazy Pulp Fiction

What could be more predictable than Donald Trump attempting to divert attention away from whatever new self-created calamity is causing him grief? Just as news has broken about his legal tribulations, and the investigation into his role in the January 6th insurrection gets closer to issuing criminal referrals, Trump announces another of his spectacularly asinine media stunts.

Click here to Tweet this article

Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump

On Thursday Trump’s legal team revealed that they have filed a lawsuit against Hillary Clinton, and nearly fifty other people who the suit describes as “her cohorts,” in a conspiracy aimed at “destroying his life.” The list of defendants is itself a comedic exercise in extremist overreaching and includes Clinton, along with numerous Democratic operatives and FBI officials. It’s 108 pages of pure paranoid bullpucky that any reputable lawyer – or fiction author – would be embarrassed to be associated with.

RELATED: Hillary Clinton: They’re Getting Awfully Close to Actual Malice

The filing contained the obligatory inanities and misspellings that are commonly littered throughout any Trump legal document. But most prominent in this chronicle of conspiracy crackpottery are the innumerable lies and disinformation. It began with a flourish of fallacious fabrications soaked in utterly implausible melodrama:

In the run-up to the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton and her cohorts orchestrated an unthinkable plot – one that shocks the conscience and is an affront to this nation’s democracy. Acting in concert, the Defendants maliciously conspired to weave a false narrative that their Republican opponent, Donald J Trump, was colluding with a hostile foreign sovereignty. The actions taken in furtherance of their scheme—falsifying evidence, deceiving law enforcement, and exploiting access to highly-sensitive data sources – are so outrageous, subversive and incendiary that even the events of Watergate pale in comparison. […]

“Defendants, blinded by political ambition, orchestrated a malicious conspiracy to disseminate patently false and injurious information about Donald J. Trump and his campaign, all in the hopes of destroying his life, his political career and rigging the 2016 Presidential Election in favor of Hillary Clinton.”

From there the filing went on to throw in every deceitful and baseless allegation Trump has peddled for more than six years. For instance…

“Special Counsel Mueller went on to exonerate Donald J. Trump and his campaign with his finding that there was no evidence of collusion with Russia.”
To the contrary, Robert Mueller explicitly stated that Trump was not exonerated and he enumerated at least ten instances of obstruction of justice.

And…

“The full extent of the Defendants’ wrongdoing has been steadily and gradually exposed by Special Counsel John Durham.”
Actually, Durham never alleged the wrongdoing that Trump implies. To date he has only addressed some tracking of publicly available Internet activity. What’s more, Durham’s reporting clearly states that the period of time that such Internet activity was being monitored was during President Obama’s term, not Trump’s.

In the 108 pages of this filing Trump referenced “Russia” 159 times. His obsession with absolving himself of any alleged “collusion” is obvious. But it is also ludicrous. A bipartisan report from the GOP-led Senate Intelligence Committee found that…

“The Trump campaign’s interactions with Russian intelligence services during the 2016 presidential election posed a “grave” counterintelligence threat […] it detailed how associates of Donald Trump had regular contact with Russians and expected to benefit from the Kremlin’s help.”

Trump’s lawsuit also makes false claims that the defendants were “hacking servers at Trump Tower, Trump’s private apartment, and, most alarmingly, the White House.” However, there is no evidence of that in the filing or reality. Although we do know that Trump asked Russia to hack Clinton’s emails, because he made that request on national television. Trump also mentioned Wikileaks in the lawsuit. Which is curious considering that the data Wikileaks made available to the Trump campaign was confirmed to have been provided by Russian hackers.

Any credible person analyzing this lawsuit cannot help but come away with the impression that it is nothing more than a deliberate distraction based on demonstrable lies. If it were made into a soap opera, it would be laughably unwatchable. The writers would be suing to have their names removed from the credits.

This lawsuit reeks of the sort of ineptitude that is the hallmark of Trump’s legal team. But if it proceeds, which is doubtful, it will offer some of the best entertainment deriving from the discovery process and Trump’s depositions. So here’s hoping that Trump is stupid enough to go forward with it.

UPDATE 9/9/2022: Trump’s ludicrous lawsuit got laughed out of court

“Trump ‘is not attempting to seek redress for any legal harm,’ [Judge] Middlebrooks said. ‘He is seeking to flaunt a two-hundred-page political manifesto outlining his grievances against those that have opposed him, and this Court is not the appropriate forum.'”

Fox News Floats Ludicrous New Criteria For Confirming Biden’s Supreme Court Nominees

It shouldn’t surprise anyone to learn that Fox News has been resolutely opposed to President Biden’s nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson who, when confirmed, will be the first Black woman to ever sit on the Supreme Court. From the outset of the nomination Fox News has maliciously maligned Jackson in a campaign of character assassination that was rife with the same racism and misogyny with which they attack Vice-President Kamala Harris, another strong, intelligent, accomplished Black woman.

Laura Ingraham, Fox News, Goofy

On Wednesday night Fox’s Senior White Nationalist, Laura Ingraham, delivered a typically crackpot commentary explaining why she thinks Republicans have a a “sacred duty” to vote against Jackson. Her argument included the invention of a brand new criteria for confirming Supreme Court justices that she crafted specifically for Biden:

“Rushing to approve a Supreme Court nominee of a President with, what, an approval rating that always seems to be hitting new lows – that my friends, is a violation of the basic sacred duty that each and every senator, himself or herself, has agreed to. That means every word of the oath that they took to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution – that is an oath that is just as sacred as the oath that the nominee has to swear to as well.”

WHUT? So now the approval polling of a president making a nomination to the Supreme Court must be taken into consideration before voting to confirm? Obviously Ingraham has only latched onto that because Biden’s polling has been negatively impacted by a deadly pandemic and a genocidal war, neither of which he caused or has much much control over. But regardless of the reasons for his low ratings, they have never been used before in the consideration of a Supreme Court appointment.

RELATED: Tucker Carlson of Fox News Says Biden Chose Ketanji Brown Jackson to ‘Destroy’ the Supreme Court

Ingraham is awkwardly trying to construct a justification for Republican senators to vote against Jackson. Other than the bigotry and naked partisanship they already employ. But she hasn’t really thought this through.

The approval rating for Donald Trump at the time he nominated three justices to the Court was even lower than Biden’s now. Biden is currently at 45% according to the latest Fox News poll. However, according to Gallup, when Trump nominated Amy Coney Barrett his approval rating was 43%. For Neil Gorsuch it was 41%. And for Brett Kavanaugh Trump was languishing at only 40%.

What’s more, the approval rating for Jackson herself is higher than for all of Trump’s nominees. According to a Fox News poll

“A 56% majority would vote to confirm [Jackson], the highest of any nominee since the question was first asked on a Fox News poll in 2005. […]

“Justice Amy Coney Barrett received an approval rating of 50 percent during her confirmation hearings in 2020, while 45 percent approved of Justice Neil Gorsuch in 2017, and only 40 percent said they would vote to confirm Justice Brett Kavanaugh in 2018.”

RELATED: Tucker Carlson Rages for 12 Minutes Against Biden Nominating a Black Woman to the Supreme Court

The Senate hearings for Jackson have revealed two things most prominently: 1) She is eminently qualified and possessing of extraordinary judicial intellect and temperament, and 2) The Republican members of the Judiciary Committee (particularly Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, and Lindsey Graham) are asinine blowhards seeking only to venerate themselves and score airtime on Fox News.

That motive remains operational still. Thursday morning Steve Marshall, the Republican Attorney General of Alabama, appeared before the Committee as a witness against Jackson. He engaged in in this pathetic exchange with Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse:

Whitehouse: Is Joseph R. Biden of Delaware the duly elected and lawfully serving President of the United States of America?
Marshall: “He is the president of our country.”
Whitehouse: Is he the duly elected and lawfully serving president of the United States?”
Marshall: “He is the president of our country.”
Whitehouse: Are you answering that omitting the language “duly elected and lawfully serving” purposefully?
Marshall: “I’m answering the question. He is the president.”
Whitehouse: You have no view if he is duly elected or lawfully serving?
Marshall: “I’m telling you he’s the president of the United States.”

For the record, Marshall is among the Trump coup plotters responsible for the January 6th insurrection in Washington, D.C. According to the Alabama Political Reporter

“Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall won’t say where he was on the days leading up to and following the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Marshall leads the Republican Attorneys General Association’s dark-money nonprofit Rule of Law Defense Fund, which paid for robocalls detailing when and where citizens should meet. […]

“Marshall on Dec. 9, 2020, announced Alabama would join a Texas lawsuit asking the United States Supreme Court to overturn election results in four states, which the Supreme Court rejected.”

So these cretins still can’t let go of Trump’s “Big Lie” that the 2020 election was “rigged.” That tells you everything you need to know about the right-wing, Trump-fluffing, GOP, their efforts to sink the Jackson nomination, and pretty much everything else on their future agenda.

Kamala Harris Callously Mocked By Fox News for Caring About Children’s Access to Remote Learning

The American right is notorious for its insensitivity to the real problems that ordinary people deal with every day. Republicans repeatedly ignore – and even ridicule – any effort by Democrats to provide assistance to those who are struggling to get by under difficult circumstances. However, that same grit and determination is never demanded of the wealthy and privileged.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Kamala Harris

Republicans believe that everyone should pull themselves up by their bootstraps, even they have no boots. And to illustrate that heartlessness right-wingers in the GOP and Fox News went on a petty rage-a-thon over something that Vice-President Kamala Harris said that, of course, they deliberately misrepresented.

Harris spoke at an event in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, to promote the Biden administration’s investment in high-speed internet for rural communities. But rather than address the critical need for access to such services for school and commerce (full video below), the GOP and Fox News chose to malign Harris with childish and wholly unwarranted criticism:

Apparently the only thing that the Republican National Committee found noteworthy in Harris’ remarks was that she highlighted a segment of them for emphasis. There was nothing particularly unusual about that, despite their craven attempts to falsely characterize her as inarticulate. For the record, here is what Harris said in context:

“The governor and I were doing a tour of the library here and talking about the the significance of the passage of time, right? The significance of the passage of time. So when you think about it, there is great significance to the passage of time in terms of what we need to do to lay these wires, what we need to do to create these jobs.

“And there is such great significance to the passage of time when we think about a day in the life of our children, and what that means to the future of our nation depending on whether or not they have the resources they need to achieve their God-given talent.”

Naturally, the attack on Harris was regurgitated throughout the wingnut media. Fox News featured it several times with insulting commentaries by Sean Hannity, Brit Hume, Newt Gingrich, and the “Curvy Couch” potatoes of Fox and Friends, where Steve Doocy thought it would be funny to turn into a drinking game. That’s how the Fox “News” crew discusses the difficulties of children in rural communities who don’t have enough bandwidth to engage in remote learning.

In addition to the racist and misogynistic undertones of this assault, Harris’ critics remain blissfully ignorant of the oratorical catastrophes of their Dear Leader, Donald Trump. He has the vocabulary of five year old, at best. He is ill-informed, profane, and relentlessly self-exalting. For example, here he is during his 2016 campaign repeating five times that he “knows” better than anybody how to fix the system that admits he was a part of for decades:

I know it better than anybody that probably ever lived. And I will tell you this, I know the system far better than anybody else and I know the system is broken. And I’m the one, because I know it so well because I was on both sides of it, I was on the other side all my life and I’ve always made large contributions. And frankly, I know the system better than anybody else and I’m the only one up here that’s going to be able to fix that system because that system is wrong.”

Well, he had four years to fix it. How did that go? Here’s another example that deals with children and schooling during a pandemic wherein he repeats himself incessantly while making no sense whatsoever:

“My view is schools should reopen. This thing is going away. It will go away like things go away. And my view is that schools should be open. If you look at children, children are almost – and I would almost say definitely – but almost immune from this disease.”

I would almost say definitely that he is almost cognitively dysfunctional. Well, minus the “almost.” And it is Fox News and the GOP, the party of Trump, Sarah Palin, Dan Quayle, Louis Gohmert, etc., who now have the audacity to claim that Harris is stupid? I can almost keep myself from laughing out loud.

Sean Hannity Regurgitates Swill From Russian Shill for His Nightly Biden Bashing on Fox News

The American Bureau of the Russian Ministry of Disinformation (aka Fox News) is continuing to disseminate the Kremlin’s narrative about Russia’s genocidal war against Ukraine and their anti-American propaganda attacking President Joe Biden. Vladimir Putin couldn’t be any more satisfied with the programming on Fox News if he were directing himself. Which, so far as anyone can tell by watching it, he is.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Sean Hannity, Vladimir Putin

On Friday night Sean Hannity fulfilled his role in pushing Russian propaganda in a segment that was literally written for him by a spokesperson for the Kremlin. Hannity read verbatim from a statement that was released by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov. Peskov was responding to recent comments by Biden accurately accusing Putin of being a “war criminal” and a “murderous dictator.” Apparently Hannity disagreed with Biden – and most of the free world – and sought to defend his soulmate Vladimir, saying that…

“When describing Biden, a Kremlin spokesperson said, quote, ‘Given such irritability from Mr. Biden, his fatigue and sometimes forgetfulness, fatigue that leads to aggressive statements, we will not make harsh assessments, so as not to cause more aggression.’

Now, like I’ve been saying, Biden’s weakness on the world stage, it is emboldening bad actors all across the globe as Biden and Democrats abandoned the peace through strength strategy that was successful under President Trump and even President Reagan.”

It’s true that Hannity has been saying that Biden is weak throughout his presidency. That’s bad enough under ordinary circumstances, but it’s downright treasonous during wartime. Hannity is giving aid and comfort to our enemy who is currently slaughtering civilians in Ukraine, our democratic ally. Talk about “emboldening bad actors.” Hannity is describing himself, his colleagues at Fox News, and the Republican Party, doing just that.

Hannity’s embrace of Kremlin propaganda (again) comes just one day after Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov singled out Fox New for praise, saying that “only Fox News is trying to present some alternative point of view.” By which he means a point of view that is approving of Putin’s inhumane massacre of innocents. And Hannity continues to earn that praise with servile commentaries like this one, wherein he sympathetically recites the words of his masters in Moscow, while callously ignoring the human tragedies that are taking place even as he speaks.

Only on Fox News: Russian Foreign Minister Praises the Network’s Pro-Putin Propaganda

For anyone who wasn’t previously convinced that Fox News is serving as the U.S. bureau of the Kremlin’s Ministry of Disinformation, we now have concrete evidence that Russia has adopted the far-right network and exploits its anchors and guests to advance their propaganda mission.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News Commies

Fox’s roster of right-wing ranters have abandoned any pretense to patriotism as they shill unabashedly for Russia. Their Senior Putin Apologist Tucker Carlson, stands out for his fealty to Vladimir Putin and his cheerleading for a Russian victory in its genocidal war on Ukraine.

That devotion to an editorial ideology that favors America’s enemies has now earned Fox News the admiration of Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov. In an interview on the Kremlin sponsored RT cable channel, Lavrov lavished praise on Fox News as a singular voice for Russia’s interests (starts at 3:35):

“We understood long ago that there is no such thing as an independent Western media. You could take the United States, only Fox News is trying to present some alternative point of view. But when you see, you watch other channels, and when you watch, read social networks and Internet platforms, when the acting president was blocked. as you know. And this censorship continues in very big way.”

Lavrov’s tribute to Fox’s fawning over Russia was driven by the constant drumbeat of pro-Putin programming that dominates Fox’s schedule. When Lavrov says that “only Fox News is trying to present some alternative point of view,” what he means is that only Fox News will toe the official Kremlin line that Russia is the beleaguered party in the conflict with Ukraine, and that only Fox News will lie to advance that so-called “alternative point of view.” Apparently Lavrov has bought into the “alternative facts” theme made famous by former Trump White House Director of Newspeak, Kellyanne Conway.

What’s more, for Lavrov to complain about censorship in the U.S. is utterly bizarre. First of all, he doesn’t bother to document any censorship by the U.S. government whatsoever. The decisions of private companies to moderate their own websites is actually an affirmation of freedom in a democratic society. The government is not permitted to force those companies to act according to some official mandate.

In Lavrov’s country, however, the government just passed a law that prohibits news organizations from reporting factually about the war Russia is waging against Ukraine. Media companies are being forced out of Russia, and journalists are being arrested and threatened. And what the heck does he mean by “the acting president was blocked”? Does Lavrov think that Trump still holds some official position in the U.S. government?

Lavrov went on to criticize CNN, saying that…

“If you take CNN, they they prefer to avoid analytical materials, and they more and more concentrate on some reports, which would be made of slogans. Russia is an aggressor. Russia is murdering civilians.”

Of course, the allegations of Russia being an aggressor and murdering civilians are not slogans. They are what free people refer to as facts. And Lavrov’s complaints about CNN avoiding “analytical material” makes about as much sense as Donald Trump complaining about U.S. cable companies that have ceased to carry openly pro-Russian propaganda outlets like One America News (OAN) and RT, the channel that Lavrov was interviewed on.

The harmony between the commentaries by Russia and Trump shouldn’t surprise anyone. Because they have long shared the same political objectives of suppressing free thought, destroying liberal democracies and supporting authoritarian dictatorships. No wonder Lavrov is so fond of both Trump and Fox News.

Ted Cruz Tries to Smear Biden’s Leadership on Ukraine, Gets Demolished By Top Aide to Zelenskyy

There are very few predictions about Washington politicians that are more reliable than those that forecast Ted Cruz saying something extraordinarily stupid. His endlessly recurring humiliations include his cowardly flight to Cancun in order to avoid the deep freeze in his home state of Texas, and his submission for punishment to his Fox News master Tucker Carlson, for daring to correctly refer to the January 6th insurrection as an act of terrorism.

Ted Cruz, Cancun

As the genocidal assault on Ukraine by Russia enters its third week, Cruz is behaving consist with his legendary idiocy. In remarks made at a press conference Thursday morning, Cruz dutifully delivered on the Republican doctrine of elevating the reputation of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin at the expense of President Joe Biden and the national interests of the United States and its allies. Cruz complained petulantly, and utterly without basis, that…

“What is missing is presidential leadership. President Biden believes Putin’s victory is inevitable. And that is reflected in every briefing we get. And it’s reflected in the strategy the administration is implementing. I’m reminded in the Cold War when President Reagan was asked ‘What’s your strategy in the Cold War?’ And he said, ‘It’s very simple. We win, they lose.’ That clarity directed our economic policy, our military policy, our diplomatic policy. We need that clarity.”

There is, of course, nothing in any of Biden’s statements about the Russian invasion of Ukraine that even tangentially suggests that he regards Putin’s victory as inevitable. It’s not in his briefings or his strategy. That dishonest contrivance exists only in Cruz’s deliberately distorted disinformation. And Cruz’s descent into the mindless simplicity of Reaganism is typical of the right’s inability to comprehend anything more complex than an Applebee’s kid’s menu maze.

Cruz made these anti-American, pro-Putin remarks after Biden had announced an enhanced package of military aid for Ukraine. The announcement was made by Biden in a White House address that was covered live by the media on Wednesday. So Cruz undoubtedly knew that his attack on Biden was a lie. According to CNN

“President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced an additional $800 million in security assistance to Ukraine as he sought to answer his Ukrainian counterpart’s impassioned call for help and leadership delivered to Congress earlier in the day. ‘The world is united in our support for Ukraine and our determination to make (Russian President Vladimir) Putin pay a very heavy price,’ Biden said before signing a presidential memorandum at the White House to deliver the military assistance.”

Clearly this is not the action of a President who has abandoned leadership or is resigned to defeat. And Biden’s public declaration that “I think [Putin] is a war criminal,” is further evidence of his commitment to, not only victory for Ukraine, but severe consequences for Putin. But if any additional proof of Biden’s leadership is necessary, how about taking the word of Andriy Yermak, the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine:

Thank you to the American people, American states and personally to President Biden. […] Really, President Biden is the President of the United States who is better know our country. and who has done more than all Presidents of United States. And we hope, and President Zelenskyy yesterday in Congress said, that we believe that President Biden Biden will be really leader of the peace of Ukraine. And his leadership helps my people, my country, really stop this war and Ukraine to win.”

So Yermak explicitly acknowledges the leadership of President Biden and thanks him profusely. And it is not immaterial that he praised Biden for having “done more than all Presidents of United States.” That is an unambiguous slap at Donald Trump, who tried to extort Zelenskyy by withholding military aid from Ukraine in an attempt to coerce him into fabricating dirt on then-candidate Biden. Which is what Trump was impeached for the first time.

Nevertheless, Cruz felt compelled to malign Biden and is still nauseatingly infatuated with Trump. He is the epitome of the modern Republican Party that is so focused on destroying Biden and the Democratic Party that they will forge allegiances to America’s enemies, even in a time of war.

TRUMP: Me Me Me Me Me, Lies about NATO, Me Me Me, Biden Sucks, Me Me

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered a historic speech (video below) to the United States Congress on Wednesday to make a personal plea for aid to beat back Vladimir Putin and Russia’s brutal, genocidal invasion. It was a compelling, impassioned address in support of his nation’s battle for democracy and liberty. He was received by Congress with respect and admiration for his courage and devotion to freedom.

Donald Trump

However, at the same time that Zelenskyy was speaking, Donald Trump was tweeting (via his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill). And his message to the nation – or more accurately, to his cult followers – could not have been more different. Rather than acknowledging the unprecedented event that was taking place in our nation’s Capitol, Trump chose to regurgitate some old, debunked lies that were laser focused entirely on himself, as if he could ever do otherwise. In his typical, run-on incoherence, he babbled that…

“People forget so quickly, with the help of the Fake News, that it was me that got the 20 out of 28 delinquent NATO countries to start paying the money that they owed in order to rebuild a floundering NATO. Nobody knew things would happen so rapidly, but NATO was poor and now it is rich, and all of the Fake News commentators that said Trump was tearing down NATO should be ashamed of themselves for telling lies. Not only was the United States being taken advantage of by the EU on trade, but it was forced to pay the costs of the many delinquent NATO countries. Bush and Obama did nothing but make speeches and talk—I acted, and acted strongly. I said to them, ‘if you don’t pay up, no protection.’ They all paid up, and paid up quickly. It’s a story that’s never reported, but that’s only because we have a corrupt press in our Country!”

This meandering mess merits a fact-based breakdown. Let’s begin with Trump’s complaint that the “fake” news has made people forget that he “got the 20 out of 28 delinquent NATO countries to start paying.” First of all, he didn’t do that. NATO members began “increas[ing] their defense spending in 2015 and 2016, before Trump took office.” That was during Obama’s term. And the assertion that NATO was “floundering” is wholly fictional.

Trump went on to whine about “Fake News commentators that said Trump was tearing down NATO.” Which is demonstrably true. He even referred to the alliance as “obsolete,” and planned to withdraw from it.

Trump’s claim that the U.S. “was forced to pay the costs of the many delinquent NATO countries,” has no basis in reality. What’s more, there are no “dues” to belong to NATO, so member nations cannot be “delinquent,” and Trump never made them “pay up.” NATO members simply agree to a goal of spending 2% of of their annual GDP on their own defense budgets.

Finally, Trump actually admits that he extorted NATO by threatening to renege on the commitment of mutual defense stipulated in the treaty. “If you don’t pay up,” Trump warned, “no protection.” That’s reminiscent of Trump’s extortion attempt against Zelenskyy, when he withheld military aid already allocated by Congress if Zelenskyy didn’t help him manufacture dirt on then-candidate Biden.

This entire statement reflects the mind of someone severely disturbed. It affirms prior diagnoses of Trump as a malignant narcissist. He turns every discussion into one that is centered on exalting himself. And if he can also disparage his foes, so much the better. For him to yammer like this on the same day that Zelenskyy acquitted himself with such dignity, truly distinguishes the differences between a hero and America’s preeminent zero. Yet he is still the beloved Dear Leader of today’s repugnant Republican Party.
