Rachel Maddow Unmasks the Virulent Racism of Marjorie Taylor Green and Christian Nationalism

Monday night Rachel Maddow embarked on another one of her captivating history lessons that she compellingly intertwines with current events. This lesson (video below) was about Gerald L.K. Smith, a radical right-wing Republican from the 1950’s who championed a political philosophy that he called “Christian Nationalism.” He advanced this doctrine via his “America First” Party.

Rachel Maddow

Sound familiar? Smith’s brand of theocracy was rooted in the American conservativism that appealed to the Ku Klux Klan and other racist hate groups. It espoused fascism and exalted the same sort of totalitarian tyrants that Donald Trump admires so fervently.

Maddow played audio clips of Smith describing his beliefs as “the destiny of America” which he said “must be kept in the hands of our own people.” And if you’re curious about who he means by “our own people,” he cooperatively elaborated saying that “the inspiring dynamic out of which America grew is Christianity,” and that “there would be no real America…if there had been no Christianity.” Then Smith gets into the toxic core of his credo…

“Subversive forces, exploiting sentimental nitwits, are reading into the Constitution a code of conduct which threatens to mongrelize our race, destroy our racial self respect, and enslave the white man. Fight mongrelization and all attempts being made to force the intermixture of the black and white races…Preserve America as a Christian Nation, being conscious of the fact that there is a highly organized campaign to substitute Jewish tradition for Christian tradition.”

Tucker Carlson couldn’t have said it better himself.

RELATED: Tucker Carlson of Fox News Fears Democrats are ‘Importing New Voters’ to ‘Replace’ Him

Smith’s vile views were an early serving of White nationalism, dripping with Jesus sauce. Maddow noted that the Christian Nationalist rhetoric that Smith articulated in the clip she played was “kind of the mild stuff from him.” It left out…

“…the stuff about the Jews taking over the world, and how Americans need to be Christian Nationalists because only that can stop the worldwide Jewish conspiracy, not to mention all the race mixing. … [Smith] was a virulent, violent racist and anti-Semite, … Which you’d think that would make Christian Nationalism kind of a hard thing for today’s Republicans to try to raise as their new banner.”

You might think that. but then again, you might be QAnon representative, Marjorie Taylor Greene, who recently bragged that…

“Republicans really need to recognize the people they represent, okay? … We need to be the party of nationalism and I’m a Christian, and, I say it proudly: We should be Christian Nationalists.”

Maddow couldn’t help but notice that today’s Republican Party has adopted this deplorable dogma, and that Greene is among the most devoted of its modern adherents. On Tuesday Greene responded to having been featured in Maddow’s segment confessing her commitment to Christian Nationalism. She unleashed a multi-part tweet tantrum that said in part that…

“Rachel Maddow is smearing me with lies about my faith and love for America and trying to connect me to someone I’ve never heard of or know anything about. […] Hopefully, this helps some of you that are brainwashed by liars like Rachel Maddow who by the way has never met me in her entire life and gets paid to lie about me by her hard left employers at MSNBC. What a pitiful way to earn a paycheck.”

First of all, Maddow didn’t lie about Greene. She merely replayed Greene’s own words, a practice that commonly and understandably upsets Republicans. More to the point, since Greene is admitting her ignorance of the past, she should be thanking Maddow for educating her about the historical significance of the repulsive movement she is so proud to be embracing.

RELATED: WATCH: Marjorie Taylor Greene Freaks Out When Asked a Few Questions By CNN’s Jim Acosta

Unfortunately, Greene isn’t the only Republican reprising the abhorrent Christian Nationalism of the last century. In fact, it has infected the entirety of the GOP. And it is also rampant on right-wing media, particularly Fox News, where Tucker Carlson has emerged as the spokesman for the movement’s modern day incarnation. So we can expect to hear a lot more about it from these racist cretins, even as they pretend not to know what they themselves are talking about. Which has long been a feature of Republican messaging for decades.

Pete Buttigieg Delivers Deft Smackdown of a Pinhead Republican’s Lunatic Anti-Biden Harangue

Among the most damaging deviations of Donald Trump’s infestation of the White House has been the spread of his deranged brand of ignorance and asininity. He has infected the majority of the Republican Party with a compulsion to exude hostility and lies aimed scattershot at Democrats, and even insufficiently worshipful Republicans.

Donald Trump, Republican, GOP

On Tuesday an example of this diseased behavior was on display in Congress as GOP representative Troy Nehls (TX-Wanker) unleashed a cascade of crackpottery during his inquisition of Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg. The Secretary was testifying before the House Infrastructure Committee.

RELATED: Crybaby Trump Whines Impotently About Passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill

Rather than address any relevant or rational issue, Nehls babbled bombastically about President Biden’s mental state in a flurry of wild allegations that never approached any semblance of reality. The result was a bizarre exchange wherein he solidified his aspiration to succeed Louis Gohmert as the GOP’s dumbest member of Congress. Aiming his invective at Biden, Nehls yammered…

Nehls: He shakes hands with ghosts and imaginary people. He falls off bicycles. Even at the White House Easter celebration, the Easter Bunny had to guide him back into his safe place. Cue cards that say ‘end of speech,” which he actually states, that is, if he stays awake. So my question for you is, have you spoken with any other cabinet member about implementing the 25th Amendment on President Biden?
Buttigieg: First of all, I’m glad to have a President who can ride a bicycle. And I will look beyond the insulting nature of that question and make clear …
Nehls (interrupting): Have you spoken to any cabinet members about implementing the 25th Amendment on President Biden?
Buttigieg: Of course not.
Nehls: Have you emailed any member of the executive branch about the President’s health…
Buttigieg: The President of the United States is as vigorous a colleague or boss as I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
Chairman DeFazio: The gentleman’s time has expire.
Nehls: Could you yield me one minute sir?
Chairman DeFazio: Absolutely not. If you had yielded the Secretary some time to actually answer the ridiculous question, you might have actually gotten something.

Buttigieg’s reply to Nehls was a clever, albeit overly gracious, way of reminding everyone of Trump’s mental and physical disabilities. However, literally every item on Nehls churlish checklist was, as someone once said, fake news. They were all drawn from the phony attacks by Fox News shills and MAGA-nauts that have been circulating among the cult crowd for months. Just as an example, the charge that Biden read stage directions from the TelePrompTer was not only false, it was rife with hypocrisy…

Nehls’ inquiry as to whether Buttigieg had ever considered invoking the 25th Amendment is particularly offensive. He knows that no such consideration was ever made or warranted. Biden has managed his presidential duties with intelligence, competence, and compassion. He never once suggested that people should inject themselves with bleach, or that hurricanes should be nuked, or that stealth fighters are actually invisible, or that windmills cause cancer. And, oh yeah, he never tried to overthrow the government.

RELATED: For Those Wondering What Biden and Democrats in Congress Have Been Doing the Past 16 Months…

During the same hearing, Buttigieg also shot down GOP insurrectionist Scott Perry, who has defied a subpoena, and who asked Trump for a pardon after pushing crackpot conspiracy theories about the election. Buttigieg corrected Perry’s deliberate lies about the cost of electric vehicles. Perry cherry-picked a $55,000 example. Buttigieg set him straight. And as shown in this article, many EVs are less than $35,000.

Fox News Legal ‘Expert’ Thinks that ‘Trial of Your Peers’ Means a Jury of All Trump Toadies

The Trump-fluffers at Fox News are clearly starting to worry about the fate of their Dear Leader Donald Trump. They are beginning to shift their propaganda from malicious mockery of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection incited by Trump, to outright contempt for the American justice system.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Constitution

There is no clearer sign that Fox News is worried about Trump’s legal peril than their frantic criticism of the courts that will hear his cases. They appear to be accepting the likelihood that Trump will be indicted and that he will have to face a judge and jury to account for his multitude of crimes that run the gamut from financial fraud to sedition.

RELATED: Trump’s Reelection Campaign is Stealing Millions of his Donors’ Dollars for His Legal Bills

Mark Levin is a weekend Fox News host who was once an attorney. He served as chief of staff to disgraced Reagan Attorney General, Edwin Meese. His Fox program is a weekly hour of lies and hate in the service of Trumpism. And this weeks episode was a perfect example of just how low this shameless sycophant will go. In a segment devoted to absolving Trump of any wrongdoing, Levin unleashed a bizarre mangling of legal analysis, saying that…

“If you have a trial and the jury is made up of individuals out of a pool of overwhelmingly partisan Democrats who voted for the opposition – who either voted for Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden – and you have a former president or his surrogates facing that jury, how in the hell are they gonna get a fair trial?

“This whole thing is rigged. It’s a disgrace. From this Committee, to the U.S. Attorney, to the Attorney General of the United States, to the so-called Justice process in Washington, D.C. Why don’t they hold it, if they’re gonna hold it anywhere else, in Utah, or Idaho, or some place like that? No, that would never happen.”

It’s hard to imagine that this cretin ever practiced law. He has no idea what the concept of a “jury of your peers” means. Apparently Levin believes that a defendant should be allowed to select his jurors based on their affinity for the defendant. That’s why the only place he thinks Trump could get a fair trial is in a place like Idaho. That’s not how it works. A jury of peers, in this context, means members of the community where the crime took place. It doesn’t mean a group of those who voted for you.

It isn’t a coincidence that Levin, in his criticism of the justice system, is parroting the language that Trump uses. He asserts, without evidence, that it is “rigged” and a “disgrace.” You could easily mistake his complaints for any random Trump rant about the 2020 presidential election that he lost. And despite Levin’s whining about this trumped up travesty of justice, you know that he would be outraged if a Democrat insisted that a trial be moved to a precinct of lefties in a staunchly blue state.

Levin followed up that perversion of legal principles with an interview of the Chair of the House Republican Conference, Elise Stefanik. Her grasp of the law was no better than Levin’s In the suck-up interview, Stefanik recklessly accused President Biden and his family of being criminals, despite not having a shred of evidence to back up that charge:

“You have the entire Joe Biden family profiting personally off of Joe Biden’s position when he was a sitting vice-president. That is unacceptable in America and imagine if the Republicans ever did that? Democrats would be investigating every aspect of that. And yet in this case they look the other way on all these shameful, shameless, and illegal controversies of Hunter Biden.”

Once again, neither Stefanik, nor any other Republican shill, can produce any proof of any crime by the Bidens. They just relentlessly repeat the allegation in the hope that it sticks and tarnishes their reputations. And the gall of her invitation to “imagine if the Republicans ever did that,” is mind-boggling, considering all of the documented financial improprieties of Trump, Don Jr, Eric, and Ivanka. They were actually prohibited by law from running any charities in New York after being found to have robbed their phony foundation to line their own pockets.

Stefanik went on to disparage the January 6th Committee, which she called (of course) a “witch hunt.” And she complained that Republicans had no ability to appoint members to the Committee, which is a blatant lie. They chose not to appoint any members so that they could later pretend that the Committee was partisan.

RELATED: Crybaby Trump Slams the January 6th Committee For Nixing His Witnesses – Who Refused to Testify

There is an unmistakable stench of defeat in how Fox News and the Republican Party are reconfiguring their strategy to account for the likelihood of Trump indictments. They know that he’s guilty and they are scrambling to find a way to spin it. But the only thing that they are succeeding in doing is to make Trump look more guilty, and themselves more ignorant and desperate.

Big Baby Lauren Boebert’s Pathetic Insult of Eric Swalwell Would Make a Kindergartener Cringe

You have to appreciate it when Republican blowhards conveniently provide the best evidence of their astonishing idiocy. And no one is more accommodating in this regard than Colorado’s QAnon representative, Lauren Boebert.

Click here to Tweet this article

Lauren Boebert

On Saturday Boebert appeared on Mike Huckabee’s program on the Trinity Broadcasting Network. During her slushball interview, Boebert thought she had devised a clever way of insulting Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell. Boebert was obviously proud of herself when she said that…

“Unfortunately, [Swalwell] only acts tough on Twitter so I’ve actually tried to have conversations with Eric “Smells Not So Well” and it doesn’t really work out. He bee-lines away from me. And so maybe I’m intimidating. I’m not sure. But he actually compared me to the horrible mass shooter in Highland Park. He put a picture of me with a firearm, and said ‘Let’s start drawing straight lines.’”

REALLY? Boebert thinks it’s funny to distort the name of a congressman in a way that maligns his grooming. That’s the sort of insult that children learned to stop making before they graduated to elementary school. But Boebert thinks that she landed a harsh burn. And Huckabee, as well as his allegedly “Christian” audience laughed heartily.

For his part, Swalwell didn’t waste much time or thought on Boebert’s asinine outburst. He merely retweeted it with a meme from the movie “He’s Just Not That Into You,” clarifying that he isn’t intimidated by Boebert (an utterly ridiculous suggestion). He just doesn’t like her. Which most members of Congress can relate to.

Ordinarily this would be an event of such minor significance it would be ignored by the media and the public. However, in this case it is emblematic of a disastrous transformation of the Republican Party into an entity that embraces, and even exalts, this kind of gross stupidity. It is a reflection of the same sort of childishness that Donald Trump exhibits with his puerile nicknames (i.e. Adam “Schitt,” “Sleepy” Joe, Sen. Jeff “Flakey,” Al “Frankenstein”)

The Republican Party is fully engaged in a crusade to dumb down the nation. They want an electorate like the one that Trump described when he said that he “>loves the poorly educated.” Because who else would vote for them. And Boebert has picked up that baton and is running with it. It might have been a pretty funny premise for satirical movie, but when the characters have responsibility for trillions of dollars and massive armories, the humor quickly dries up.

Trump’s Petty and Petulant Republican Party Plots Revenge Agenda if it Regains Power in 2022

If you were wondering what the Republican Party intends to do should they manage to obtain majorities in Congress later this year, they have helpfully provided voters with their roadmap for America’s future. It consists primarily of the wet dreams of their Dear Leader, Donald Trump, and his dystopian aspirations for autocracy and vengeance.

Donald Trump, GOP

Throughout the first half of the Biden administration Republicans have demonstrated that their only goal is to blindly oppose President Biden and the Democrats in Congress with knee-jerk solidarity. Never mind that Democrats have been offering broadly popular legislative solutions to the problems that Americans are most concerned about. So far the GOP has voted in lock-step against Democratic (and even some bipartisan) bills to mitigate inflation, halt price gouging by oil companies, increase the availability of baby formula, lower the price of insulin and other prescription drugs, restore privacy and reproductive choice rights, reduce child poverty, and protect citizens from gun violence.

RELATED: For Those Wondering What Biden and Democrats in Congress Have Been Doing the Past 16 Months…

The Democratic record for the past year and a half has been one of principled service to the interests of the American people. For that they have been pilloried by Republicans who believe that their political interests, and those of wannabe dictator Donald Trump, come first. And just to make certain that the radical, self-serving GOP program isn’t misunderstood, they are announcing it publicly in explicit terms. As reported by CNN

“Trump’s fiercest acolytes have started to publicly push for hearings and probes into his baseless claims of fraud in the 2020 election — even as the select committee reveals an avalanche of testimony about how those lies incited a violent mob to attack the Capitol.” […]

“Aside from possible election-related inquiries, some of the GOP’s potential investigative targets include the origins of the novel coronavirus, particularly the laboratory leak theory that has gained steam in Republican circles; the bureaucratic decision-making behind Covid-related school closures and vaccine mandates; any business dealings involving President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter; the chaotic pullout from Afghanistan; and the border policies being overseen by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. […] there’s also been growing calls on the right for the GOP to use its firepower to rewrite the narrative on January 6.”

Seriously? The Republican Party is laser focused on Wuhan conspiracy theories and Hunter Biden? They think that’s a winning strategy for the midterms? Of course that can’t be all the GOP is planning. They will also be campaigning hard against Critical Race Theory, LGBTQ+ rights, and fair voting practices. And don’t be surprised if Hillary Clinton somehow makes it into their scammy schemes.

For his part, Trump is fully on board with this line of attack. He will be making his first return to Washington, D.C., later this month to deliver “a major policy speech” to the “America First Agenda Summit,” where it is reported that he will “lay out a vision for what his policy agenda could be in a second term if he runs for president again in 2024.” Does Trump know that 49% of Republicans don’t want him to run in 2024?

We can safely assume that the “vision” articulated in Trump’s address – like every other address he makes – will consist predominantly of whining and lying about having lost the 2020 presidential election, complaining about “fake” news, and casting childish insults at his perceived political foes, including insufficiently worshipful Republicans. It would be nice to see Trump greeted by thousands of protesters when he shows his orange face in the Capitol that he tried to plunder by violent insurrection.

RELATED: Voters are More Likely to Support Democrats When Told They are Running Against Trump, MAGA

With this campaign contrived to foment fear and arouse anger in the Deplorable demographic, it’s hard to imagine how Democrats can’t prevail in November and beyond. But with the devotion of the GOP’s cult base, and the complicity of the right-wing propaganda apparatus (i.e. Fox News) nothing can be taken for granted. Democrats need to stay vigilant and engaged, and work as hard as ever to get out their message and their voters. The future of democracy literally rests upon it.

Tucker Carlson of Fox News Blames Mass Shootings on – Women? (Also Drugs, Porn, Video Games)

The horrific incidents of mass shootings have reached epidemic proportions in the United States. Even patriotic events such as 4th of July parades in sleepy upscale suburbs are not immune. But despite the lives lost and families shattered by this senseless violence, the Republican Party, and their enablers on Fox News, still refuse to take action against the tools of the terrorist’s trade – guns.

Click here to Tweet this article

Tucker Carlson, Fox News

How can this problem be solved when Republican representatives in Congress can’t even acknowledge that guns are the primary cause of the body count in these massacres? Instead, they struggle to change the subject or avoid it entirely. Donald Trump hasn’t even mentioned the July 4th shooting. But he did obsess about himself and his legal tribulations.

RELATED: Trump Drops an Utterly Unhinged Harangue to Celebrate Himself on the 4th of July

While the recent gun reform bill that just passed makes some incremental progress, it left out critical measures such as banning military-style weapons, implementing universal background checks, manufacturer liability, and age limit restrictions on purchases. And even in that compromised form the vast majority of GOP senators voted against it.

It is not a coincidence that the cowardice of the ultra-conservative Republican Party is reflective of the propaganda disseminated by right-wing media, particularly Fox News. Their editorial stance on the issue has been consistently pro-gun. And with each new mass shooting they reiterate that position and seek to shift the blame to other alleged causes, despite the absence of evidence to support their deflection.

Chief among the NRA-theists is Fox’s Senior Misogynist, Tucker Carlson. On Tuesday night he delivered a monologue that went to great lengths to absolve guns of any liability for the death toll (video below). Instead, he blamed drugs, schools, porn, video games, and – women!?! That’s right, the notorious woman-hating, ball-tanner, is now asserting that mass shootings are the fault of the “mostly women” authorities in the lives of the shooters…

“Look at Robert ‘Bobby’ Crimo. Would you sell a gun to that guy? Does he seem like a nutcase? Of course he does. So why didn’t anyone raise an alarm? Well, maybe because he didn’t stand out. Maybe because there are a lot of young men in America who suddenly look and act a lot like this guy. That’s not an attack; it’s just true. Like Crimo they inhabit a solitary fantasy world of social media, porn, and video games. They’re high on government endorsed weed. Smoke some more it’s good for you.

First of all, Carlson is making the argument that mass shooters can be recognized by the way they look. And even though gun fetishists like Carlson generally object to any restrictions on purchasing firearms, he now thinks that looks would be an acceptable criteria. After all, would you sell a gun to this guy (See Carlson’s photo above)?

But Carlson was just getting started. He went on to describe shooters as waifs for whom it is “guaranteed” “their lives will not be better than their parents’,” and that they have been deliberately drugged by evil school counselors. Which makes you wonder what kinds of schools little Tucker attended. And judging by the following remarks, you also have to wonder about the women in his life.

“They are numbed by the endless psychotropic drugs that are handed out at every school in the country by crackpots posing as counselors. […] And yet the authorities in their lives – mostly women – never stop lecturing them about their so-called privilege. ‘You’re male, you’re privileged.'”

Carlson concluded by reiterating that “A lot of young men in America are going nuts. Are you surprised?” This is a common, femophobic fixation for Carlson who has disgorged elaborate harangues asserting that there is some sort of clandestine government plot to deplete the testosterone of American males. He even produced an entire crocumentary on the subject – “The End of Men.” – that played out more like a soft-core gay porn paean to the supremacy of patriarchy.

SEE: Macho Poser Tucker Carlson’s Journey from ‘Dancing With the Stars’ to ‘The End of Men’

Carlson is not alone on Fox News as a propagator of these preposterous hypotheses. Laura Ingraham also sought to deflect from guns by asking her viewers to look into the eyes of “some of the mass killers who have reportedly been regular pot users.” After which, she has the gall to accuse the media of “fear mongering on fake issues.”

Every reputable expert on gun violence has debunked the conspiracy kooks who point their bony fingers at drugs, porn, and video games as the causes of mass shootings. Every other developed country on the planet has all of those influences, but not anything close to the frequency and fatality of the gun violence that occurs in the U.S.

The efforts to cast blame on those behaviors is just the Republican’s way of protecting their benefactors in the NRA and the gun industry. It is also their method of keeping their dimwitted constituents scared and submissive. But Carlson’s addition of women to the list of culprits is both perverse and dangerous. And it says much more about his own insecurities and impotence than it does about the women he fears and hates. After all, he is the same deviant sicko who laments the declining sex appeal of cartoon M&Ms…

Republicans Are in Denial, Trump Feeds the Sickness, and the GOP Blames That on – Joe Biden?

There is growing consensus that the Republican Party has devolved into a cult that worships at the bone-spurred feet of the twice-impeached, former reality TV game show host, and failed pseudo-businessman, Donald Trump. Even longtime GOP stalwarts are conceding that Trump is guilty of numerous crimes related to the January 6th insurrection that he incited.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Joe Biden, Fake News

Joining the company of Trump critics this weekend was Republican senator – and the 2012 GOP nominee for president – Mitt Romney. He published an op-ed in “The Atlantic” entitled America Is in Denial,” that addressed, among other things, the toxic division that is polluting the American political environment. Romney’s key point was that the nation is too possessed by partisanship to solve any of its problems. He complained that…

“The left thinks the right is at fault for ignoring climate change and the attacks on our political system. The right thinks the left is the problem for ignoring illegal immigration and the national debt.”

There is, however, a glaring flaw in Romney’s logic. The left is telling the truth when they note that the the right ignores climate change and attacks the political system. In fact, many on the right believe that climate change is a hoax, and Trump leads those who demean our institutions and the Constitution.

Meanwhile, the right is lying when they assert the the left ignores immigration and the national debt. In fact, more immigrants are being apprehended now than at any time during the Trump administration. And Biden has reduced the deficit by more than a trillion dollars. And those are just a couple of the accomplishments that Romney and the GOP strive so vigorously to suppress.

RELATED: For Those Wondering What Biden and Democrats in Congress Have Been Doing the Past 16 Months…

Romney went on to demonstrate a bit of the non-partisan cordiality that has made him a pariah among his own Republican colleagues. He said that…

“President Joe Biden is a genuinely good man, but he has yet been unable to break through our national malady of denial, deceit, and distrust. A return of Donald Trump would feed the sickness, probably rendering it incurable. Congress is particularly disappointing: Our elected officials put a finger in the wind more frequently than they show backbone against it.”

Indeed, Trump is an infectious agent who spreads deceit and distrust. And Republicans in Congress have proven that they are mostly useless due to their cowardice and/or complicity with Trump’s anti-American crusade to MAGA (Make America Go Authoritarian).

More to the point, Romney is absurd in the extreme when he asserts that the these problems are President Biden’s fault. It is preposterous to blame Biden for the fact that Republicans have adopted a knee-jerk opposition to anything that emanates from Biden, his administration, or his party. The GOP is wholly responsible for their own pigheadedness.

It is the stubborn obstructionism of the GOP that is the cause of America’s “national malady.” Without that burden the nation could have already passed legislation improving the economy and mitigating inflation. They could have avoided the reversal in constitutional liberties imposed by the radical rightists on the Supreme Court. They could have implemented gun reforms that would save lives. They could have codified voting rights and measures to insure fair elections.

It is not Biden’s fault that Republicans would rather suck up to Trump than to do the people’s business and pursue the people’s interests. And Republicans have an ally in their sabotage of the public good. That, of course, is the right-wing media, led by Fox News, where hate mongering and the brainwashing of their audience is the primary editorial mission.

RELATED: Frightened Fox News Audience Tunes Out January 6th Hearings Even When They Air on Fox

Romney closed by saying “I hope for a president who can rise above the din to unite us behind the truth.” Which is exactly what Biden has been doing. The only reason it hasn’t caught on with other Republicans and red state dwellers is because phonies like Romney – and his Fox News enablers – insist on denying reality, embracing partisanship, and purposefully propagating lies.

When people like Romney can tell the truth – that American is not in denial, Republicans are – we might actually begin to see some real progress. In the meantime, we need to elect more Democrats to counteract the serious sickness that Romney nibbled at the edges of in his self-serving editorial.

GOP Senator Tells Fox News that Support for Gun Reform in Polls is Because People are Stupid

This year there have been an appalling number of horrific mass shootings that have weighed heavily on the hearts of the nation and brought untold grief and loss to the communities in which they occurred. These tragedies are even more gut wrenching when children are the victims, as they were in Uvalde, Texas.

Fox News, Guns Logo

Yet somehow America’s representatives in Washington can’t manage to take affirmative action to address this epidemic of senseless bloodshed. And the fault lies squarely on Republicans who are beholden to the NRA-theists, and unwilling to even compromise on reforms that they agree on in principle.

RELATED: POLL: 44% of ‘Law and Order’ Republicans are Totally Cool with All the Mass Shootings in America

This resistance to advancing common sense solutions is ingrained in the GOP despite the overwhelming support for reforms in the populace at large. And that dichotomy was painfully illustrated in an interview on Fox News Sunday wherein Sen. Mike Lee of Utah degenerated into a babbling bowl of jelly as he struggled to justify his betrayal to his constituents. Fox’s Shannon Bream asked Lee about recent Fox News polling that “shows that there is a lot of strength behind some of these proposals at this time.” Bream then displayed a graphic of the poll’s findings…

Then Bream gave Lee an opportunity to respond, pointing out that “There is a lot of momentum, at least among the public sphere,” and asking “Are you out of step with your constituents?” Lee awkwardly dodged the question with a reply that was even worse than merely being out of step. He said that…

“First of all, what’s important is that we look out for the rights of constituents. Constituents are asked poll questions, they are not asked questions about specific language within legislative text. It’s the job of the lawmaker to look out for the interest and the rights of the law-abiding citizens they represent. And so with each of those provisions — I understand how they can get high popularity readings when they don’t define them. For example, you talk about banning assault weapons. There is no universal definition of what an assault rifle is. […] So that text does matter here, because it is that text that will determine whether we are intruding unduly on the rights of the American law-abiding citizen.”

To summarize Lee’s response, he believes the legislator’s job is to disregard what the public wants because they are too stupid to answer simple, straightforward questions in a poll. He even provides an example of how idiotic he thinks people are by asserting that they can’t form a coherent opinion about “assault weapons” because they don’t know what they are. Really?

Lee’s tortured doubletalk is just an attempt to evade the fact that he and his Republican confederates are purposefully betraying their constituents. The American people know what assault weapons are. They also know that legislation is written in legalese, but that that doesn’t make their opinions on these issues invalid. And they know that Lee is an arrogant horse’s ass who thinks he’s smarter than the dimwitted deplorables that he purports to represent.

For the record, the Fox News poll covered several aspects of the gun reform debate. And nearly every question revealed that significant majorities of the American people want substantive reforms. Here are a few of the poll’s findings…

  • “In general, a 56% majority believes that having tougher gun laws would reduce mass shootings in the United States, while 39% do not.”
  • “On specific gun proposals, voters are most supportive of requiring background checks on all gun buyers (88%) and improving enforcement of existing gun laws (84%).”
  • “Another 8 in 10 favor raising the legal age to buy assault weapons to 21 (82%), passing ‘red flag’ laws that allow police to take guns from people shown to be a danger (81%), background checks on buying ammunition (80%), mental health checks (78%), and raising the legal age to buy any gun to 21 (78%).”
  • “Seven in 10 favor banning high-capacity ammunition clips (70%), while slightly less (63%) support banning assault weapons.”
  • “The only proposals tested that lack majority support are allowing teachers to carry guns at schools (48%) and encouraging more citizens to carry a weapon (45%).”

With poll results like this – and from Fox News yet – the smug superiority of Republicans like Lee, who think that they know better than the people, is all the more repugnant. And it’s all the more obvious that their allegiance is to the gun industry lobbyists and the ammosexual perverts, rather than their own constituents.

Until that bond is broken, the United States will continue to suffer the most mass shootings of any nation on the planet. And the most effective way to break that bond is to vote out every Republican at every level of government. Hopefully voters will recognize that that is the only way they are ever likely to get true representation on this issue, as well as so many others, including healthcare, the environment, fair taxation, reproductive choice, civil liberties, and even the right to vote at all.

Trump’s GOP is Morphing Hunter Biden Into an Evil Cartoon Villain to Deflect From January 6th

As the House Select Committee hearings on the January 6th insurrection continue its devastating exposition of Donald Trump and his treasonous role in orchestrating a violent coup, Trump and his Republican confederates are becoming ever more frantic about sweeping their assault on democracy under the rug.

Donald Trump, GOP

Fox News, who refused to even air the first hearing live in primetime, has devoted as little time as possible to covering the extensive incriminating evidence that is being revealed. Trump himself is suffering severe and psychotic meltdowns as he watches the Committee’s blistering presentation of his overt criminality. And the American people are paying attention as millions tune in to each session.

Consequently, the Trumpian Defense League has had to work overtime to distract the nation from the damning realities that are gushing out with each new panel of witnesses, all of whom – contrary to Trump’s frenzied rants – are former Trump associates and staffers, not partisan Democrats or Trump opponents. And topping the list of the Trump absolutionists is Rep. James Comer, ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Comer stands to become chairman of the Oversight Committee if Republicans seize the majority in November. And he is openly revealing his agenda for the country under GOP leadership. During an interview on the ultra-rightist propaganda network, One America News (OAN), Comer said…

“I promise you this, and I don’t make many promises, we will have Hunter Biden hearings in the House Oversight Committee. We believe Hunter Biden is a national security threat. We believe Hunter Biden’s bad shady business dealings are influencing some decisions that Joe Biden are (sic) making. So, in other words, we think that Joe Biden is compromised because of Hunter Biden’s shady business dealings.”

So Hunter Biden, who is not now – and has never been – a government official in any capacity, is somehow a “national security threat”? Comer, like all Republican shills, doesn’t explain how that could be possible. He also has zero evidence of any allegedly “shady business dealings.” Therefore, his allegations of “influencing” President Biden are just being pulled straight out of his asinine imagination.

On the basis of that flimsy fiction, Comer is promising to waste the time Congress with blatantly partisan hearings that are strictly motivated by politics and revenge on behalf of Trump. And that’s the GOP platform for the American people in 2023 should the GOP assume majority power.

Adding to the demonization of Hunter Biden is a harangue excreted by Donald Trump Jr on Newsmax.

“Our press won’t even ask ‘Do you think like us being on the verge of World War III, do you think our decision making could be being influenced by the fact that there’s plenty more out there that we don’t even know about.’ I mean, there doesn’t seem to be an enemy country of the United States that doesn’t somehow have a Hunter Biden laptop.”

WHUT? Let’s just set aside Donnie’s six year old speaking ability and his schizoid fantasies of World War III. His unsupported assertions of Hunter Biden’s influence over his father make no sense whatsoever. What decisions does he think have been altered due to anything that has been found on the suspect laptop? Donnie doesn’t say.

Furthermore, is the Trumpy spawn really peddling the notion that it’s no longer just one laptop that was abandoned at a computer repair shop in Delaware? Now there are actually dozens of reproducing laptops scattered around the world that once belonged to Hunter, and are now in the possession of America’s enemies? And all of them have some sort of compromising data on them?

If this is the depths that Trump and the GOP are sinking to in order to deflect from the January 6th hearings, then you know that they are desperately afraid of the information that is being accumulated and made available to the public. They know what they have done, and what could soon be revealed. And they know that it’s so bad that imaginary caravans of Mexican immigrants are no longer sufficient diversions. They have had to go nuclear with what Newsmax’s chyron calls “New Revelations Come From Hunter’s Evil Laptop.”

See? No longer merely an inanimate object, the laptop itself is possessed by demons. And Hunter is the messenger of Satan. It makes you wonder what the congressional hearings that Comer is threatening would be like. Would they have an exorcist testifying? Or would they just leave that sort of fear mongering to Tucker Carlson?

Fox News Senior Political Analyst Says January 6th Hearings Could Help GOP By Thumping Trump

The House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection incited by Donald Trump has so far conducted two sessions that have already produced devastating evidence of criminal malfeasance by the twice-impeached, former reality TV game show host. And while Fox News refused to air the first session live, They did succumb to pressure and covered the second session.

Donald Trump

The revelations of Trump’s anti-American sedition disclosed so far include that many of his closest White House and campaign staffers tried in vain to coax him off the ledge of crazy election fraud claims that he knew were not true. His Attorney General, Bill Barr, called such claims “bullshit.” And both documents and testimony exposed Trump’s financial corruption wherein he repeatedly lied to his gullible cult followers in order to fleece them for donations that he said were intended for an “Election Defense Fund” that never actually existed.

Unsurprisingly, most of the post-hearing commentary on Fox News was stridently hostile toward the Committee, its members, and its mission. Their primetime roster of Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, and Laura Ingraham, all either disparaged or belittled the proceedings. However, there were a couple of uncharacteristically honest moments that managed to slither out from the avalanche of Trump-fluffing propaganda. One of those moments came when Fox’s Senior Political Analyst, Brit Hume, told anchor Bret Baier that…

“What strikes me about this, Bret, is that if they succeed ? either by damaging him or staining him such that he is either unable for legal or political reasons to run again ? they might end up finding out that they’ve done the Republican Party a great service. Because I think a great many Republicans think they can’t win with Trump at the head of the ticket again.

“They’re afraid of his supporters and don’t want to come out against him directly. But they’d like him to go away. If the effect of this committee is to make his possible candidacy go away, I think a great many Republicans would privately be very glad.”

That’s a rare admission by someone on Fox News that Trump is actually an albatross around the red neck of a Republican Party that both hates and fears him. Hume is also conceding that Trump could be guilty of crimes that would forestall his becoming a candidate in 2024. And he is confirming that a significant faction of the GOP believe that Trump would lose – again – were he to be the Party’s nominee.

There is a reasonable argument to be made that Hume is right that dumping Trump would would be a boon to the GOP in 2024. However, that is not by any any stretch of the imagination a foregone conclusion. First of of all, it presumes that a different nominee would be less schizoid that Trump. And judging by their bench (Ron DeSantis, Tom Cotton, Ted Cruz, etc.), that’s a highly speculative presumption. Secondly, whatever non-Trump candidate would replace him would suffer from the fact that Trump’s disciples might tend to stay home if their messiah isn’t on the ballot.

Furthermore, the hearings now in progress have the potential to do serious damage to more than just Trump. The entire Republican Party has been shown to be complicit in his illicit behavior. And a great deal of that is being played out on television via these hearings, which have garnered huge ratings with an audience exceeding 20 million.

In addition to Hume’s remarks, the Fox news audience was also treated to the opinion of Democratic consultant and Fox News contributor, Marie Harf, who said that…

“The testimony this morning paints a picture of a president who is hearing from all his top advisers – not all, many of his top advisers, the ‘normal team,’ as Bill Stepien called them – that his claims were outrageous. They were B.S. They were not based in any fact. And yet he went out to his supporters and told them they were true, encouraged them, lit this match. Encouraged people to believe these BS allegations. He asked them for money to help in his legal cases. He gave them a false sense of hope, and that culminated, as I think the Committee will get to, in what we saw on January 6th.

“So let’s take a step back from the process, from the inside baseball, who’s on the Committee and who isn’t. We saw a portrait of a president today who was increasingly at odds with reality. And that’s according to his own advisers, including people like Bill Barr.”

It will take a lot more of this type of truthful commentary to deprogram the brainwashed Fox News viewers. But the fact that these views are getting aired on Fox is validation of the Democrats decision to hold these hearings and to hold Trump and his cronies to account for their crimes. And they have only just begun.
