Fox News Weighs in with a Typically Tunnel-Blind Take on the Firing of CNN Boss Chris Licht

The head of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, dropped a highly anticipated bomb on the media world Wednesday morning with the announcement that the troubled CNN boss, Chris Licht, had been terminated effective immediately. Zaslav informed his staff and the company via an internal memo that was mostly complimentary toward Licht, but conceded the obvious that “It didn’t work out.”

Fox News, Bullshit Factory

Licht appeared to make the wrong moves at every juncture of his brief tenure. He began by promising to make CNN “more Republican friendly,” as if that were an appropriate journalistic goal. He sought to “balance” the truth with blatant lies and conspiracy theories. He clearly envied the ratings of Fox News and delusionally believed that he could emulate them. But why would any Fox viewer tune into CNN, the network they were indoctrinated to hate, when they still have Fox?

Licht’s changes only served to prove how poorly he understood the news business. He canceled the popular program, Reliable Sources, one of the only regularly scheduled media analysis programs on television news. And he fired its host, Brian Stelter. Then he moved Don Lemon to a morning show with Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins. Shortly thereafter he fired Lemon.

Perhaps the most brain-dead move by Licht was to tap Donald Trump for a town hall, moderated by Collins, that allowed Trump to lie almost uninterrupted for an hour and a half. Licht packed the audience with Trump supporters, and prohibited any displays of disapproval. It was so badly planned and executed that even CNN insiders were openly appalled.

Following the Trump debacle, Licht promoted Collins, a former correspondent for Tucker Carlson’s Daily Caller, to a primetime spot. And through all of this Licht also managed to alienate CNN personnel in front of, and behind, the camera. An extensive article documenting his failures was published with his cooperation by The Atlantic.

Several of Licht’s hand-picked lieutenants were also pink-slipped. But don’t expect much to change at CNN with Licht’s departure. Zaslav is still the corporate head, and right-wingers like John Malone are packed on the company’s board of directors. However, now that Licht is officially gone, his transient reign is being scrutinized by his former colleagues across the mediaverse. And not to be left out, Fox News weighed in with a gleeful obituary that was astonishing for its utter absence of self-awareness. Fox’s media hack, Joe Concha, celebrated the suffering of their competitor saying that…

“It was an internal coup led by on-air talent at the network, even its own media team, that ultimately brought him down. And why? Because many could not accept that Licht was attempting to move the network from being seen by conservatives and many independents as an activist news network, a resistance news network aimed at disparaging, through provocative and personal opinion, those right or right of center and thereby destroying the decent credibility it once had. And remember, he had inherited a network that lost 75% of its audience when you’re comparing early 2021 with the spring of 2022 when he came in. And new leadership there gave him marching orders saying basically, move this network back to the center.”

So Concha believes that Licht was fired because others at CNN “could not accept” his determination to turn CNN into “Fox Lite.” While there were surely those who opposed that boneheaded editorial detour, Licht’s fall from grace was more the result of his failure to advance CNN’s place in the cable news race. CNN’s already declining ratings just got worse as Licht implemented his plans.

Concha correctly noted that CNN’s ratings were awful. However, what he missed was that nearly every criticism he lobbed at CNN could have been aimed at Fox News itself. Concha specifically referred to what he thought CNN needed: “Less provocative reporting. More solid reporting. More Republicans on the air.” That’s coming from the media analyst at Fox News where they have virtually nothing but provocative “reporting” and Republicans on the air. He went on to note what he called “the audacity of hosting Donald Trump.” Which, by the way, Fox News is doing a week from Monday.

Concha also missed that Fox News has suffered a ratings collapse similar to that of CNN’s. It has lost fully 50% of its audience since they fired Tucker Carlson. And that’s on top of a 34% drop going back in 2021.

Consequently, if Concha’s analysis were to be taken seriously, Fox News should fire their brass, Suzanne Scott and/or Lachlan Murdoch. But don’t hold your breath waiting for that. While Concha thinks that CNN was failing because they had not moved “back to the center,” he’s perfectly happy to see Fox News stuck at the far right. Never mind that Fox News is languishing at lows it hasn’t seen in years. It’s losing to MSNBC. And its prospects for the future don’t look any better. But sure, focus on CNN’s problems instead of acknowledging how horrible things are at Fox, Joe.

Trump Viciously Attacks Fox News, the Network He Says is ‘Dead, Totally Fake, Unwatchable’

Being the subject of multiple civil and criminal investigations can lead to some bizarre behavior. And when those investigations turn to indictments, that behavior becomes even more frenzied and downright deviant. It can lead to frantic outbursts that serve only to reveal one’s festering fears and result in further incriminating statements.

Case in point: Donald Trump, who is exhibiting extreme anxiety as he anticipates the imminent issuance of criminal indictments by Grand Juries in Washington, D.C., Florida, and Georgia. The special counsel, Jack Smith, just met with what’s left of Trump’s legal team in order to beg the Justice Department to refrain from charging Trump. But if Trump’s reaction after the meeting is any indication, that didn’t go very well for him.

Another example of Trump’s gnawing nervousness is his desperate decision to accept an invitation to be interviewed on Fox News by Bret Baier. It will air on June 19, and will be a pre-taped conversation, presumably to edit out any potentially defamatory comments and embarrassingly idiotic Trumpisms. What makes this peculiar is that Trump has spent much of the last few years mercilessly thrashing Fox News for being less than unwaveringly supportive and adoring. Nevertheless, Trump has agreed to grace Fox with his presence. But only because he needs all the unflinching fluffing he find. So he’s condescended to sit down with Bret Baier for a free, hour long infomercial for his 2024 campaign. Apparently his nauseating tongue bath with Sean Hannity a few weeks ago – wherein Hannity made sure that every question he asked had the answer embedded in it so that Trump wouldn’t have to strain himself coming up with a plausible excuse or a believable lie – wasn’t sufficient.

However, if anyone thinks that Baier is going to be any less obsequious than Hannity, you can disabuse yourself of that fallacy right now. Baier’s biases were discovered in the defamation lawsuit against Fox News by Dominion Voting Systems. Internal communications revealed Baier was worried about losing viewers after Trump lost the 2020 election. In one message he “noted the audience’s anger and suggested rescinding the [Arizona] call, even awarding the state to Trump.” In another he complained that “It’s hurting us. The sooner we pull it — even if it gives us major egg. And we put it back in his column. The better we are. In my opinion.”

But don’t kid yourself that Baier is genuinely interested in being fair to Trump. Just as Trump needs Fox News, Fox News needs Trump. Baier knows that Trump lost and has been lying about alleged election fraud. In a subsequent message, Baier admitted that “There is NO evidence of Fraud. None. [and] We have to prevent this stuff … We need to fact check.” So, do you think that Baier will ask Trump about that? Don’t hold your breath.

And there’s more where that came from. Many other Fox News regulars were found to be dismissive of Trump’s “Big Lie.” Including Tucker Carlson, who said that “I hate [Trump] passionately [and he is] a demonic force.” and Rupert Murdoch, who said that it’s “Really crazy stuff. […] We don’t want to antagonize Trump further.” Let’s see if Baier bothers to mentions any of that, along with the standard GOP propaganda that will surely dominate this farce.

Crybaby Trump is Panicking Over the Likelihood that He is About to Be Criminally Indicted

The “stable genius” of Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump, is once again demonstrating the stability that has become the hallmark of his abhorrent personality, or lack thereof. When he isn’t throwing temper tantrums for perceived insults, he is whining about not being sufficiently praised for things he never did. And he is, after all, the most fabulous whiner, in his own words.

Donald Trump Circling the Drain

On Monday morning Trump took to his floundering Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, to lash out at the Department of Justice and other legal entities for having the audacity to hold him accountable for committing a multitude of crimes. How dare they try to administer justice against America’s foremost political cult leader who has never done anything wrong? He simply will not stand for it, and woe be to anyone who attempts it.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Trump’s lawyers met with the DOJ to beg that he not be indicted. But judging by Trump’s postings, that didn’t go very well. In a series of frenzied outbursts Trump revealed both his fate and fear. He began by raging that…

“Reports are the Marxist Special Prosecutor, DOJ, & FBI, want to Indict me on the BOXES HOAX, despite all of the wrongdoing that they have done for SEVEN YEARS, including SPYING ON MY CAMPAIGN. Biden Crimes go unpunished, including that he had Boxes in Chinatown, in his garage by the ‘Corvette,’ & 1,850 Boxes in Delaware that he won’t allow anyone to see. That is real OBSTRUCTION! They seek retribution for Republicans looking into Biden’s CRIMES! I HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG. ELECTION INTERFERENCE!”

Needless to say, there is virtually nothing in that rant that approaches reality. Obviously, special counsel Jack Smith is not a Marxist. Nor are the investigators at the DOJ and the FBI. They never spied on Trump’s campaign. Biden has never been shown to have committed any crimes. And the only one who blatantly obstructed justice is Trump.

Nevertheless, Trump went on to yammer incoherently about the prospect of his being indicted while Biden is not…

“HOW CAN DOJ POSSIBLY CHARGE ME, WHO DID NOTHING WRONG, WHEN NO OTHER PRESIDENT’S WERE CHARGED, WHEN JOE BIDEN WON’T BE CHARGED FOR ANYTHING, INCLUDING THE FACT THAT HE HAS 1,850 BOXES, MUCH OF IT CLASSIFIED, AND SOME DATING BACK TO HIS SENATE DAY WHEN EVEN DEMOCRAT SENATORS ARE SHOCKED. ALSO, PRESIDENT CLINTON HAD DOCUMENTS, AND WON IN COURT. CROOKED HILLARY DELETED 33,000 EMAILS, MANY CLASSIFIED, AND WASN’T EVEN CLOSE TO BEING CHARGED! ONLY TRUMP – THE GREATEST WITCH HUNT OF ALL TIME!”

Trump is pathetically reaching back to his moldy oldies about the Clintons and regurgitating his vacuous sloganeering about “witch hunts” and “election interference.” However, the most preposterous part of his spiel is his claim that Biden “HAS 1,850 BOXES, MUCH OF IT CLASSIFIED.” Trump has been saying this for months, despite it being demonstrably false.

For the record, Trump is freaking out about 1,850 boxes of senatorial and vice-presidential materials that Biden donated to the University of Delaware in 2012. So to begin with, these are not things that are in Biden’s possession now, nor have they been for the past decade. What’s more, as reported by CNN, the documents in those boxes “did not appear to have classified markings.”. And the recent search was conducted “with the consent and cooperation of the president’s legal team.”

So, unlike Trump’s brazen lies and defiance of subpoenas demanding the return of the classified materials that he stole, there was no obstruction of justice on Biden’s part. Yet it is Trump who is inflaming hostilities and inciting violence in order to prod his cult disciples into fighting this battle for him and to install him as America’s first dictator.

Trump is using the prospect of warranted indictments as an inducement to start a civil war. It won’t work. but it could still produce some painful consequences for the nation if he is permitted to get away with it. So the sooner he is indicted, convicted, and incarcerated, the better.

UPDATE I: Trump has followed up his tirade with more hysteria. He’s whining that “The Marxists and Fascists in the DOJ & FBI are going after me.” The idiot of Mar-All-Ego apparently doesn’t know that Marxists and fascists are at opposite ends of the political spectrum and are generally enemies of one another. He’s just using these words as insults because he knows that his followers are as stupid as he is. And he posted another comment that complained about the probes of his crimes that ended with the word “FIGHT!” So he’s still inciting violence.

Anticipating Failure? Fox News is Already Gaslighting About Imaginary Election Fraud in 2024

The 2024 election cycle has barely begun. There has not yet been a single primary. Many expected candidates haven’t officially announced their plans. No debates have been scheduled. In fact, it hasn’t even been established if there will be debates or who will participate.

However, the Republican National Committee has been preparing the field for an utterly useless debate season. For instance, RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel has decreed that GOP presidential candidates will be prohibited from participating in the RNC’s debates if they agree to any debates sponsored by the non-partisan Commission on Presidential Debates. She is also demanding that all candidates sign a pledge to support the eventual GOP nominee. And she actually believes that Donald Trump would honor such a pledge, which he has broken in the past.

In light of this emerging melodrama, Fox News is leapfrogging the debates, primaries, and general election campaigning, and starting early to invalidate whatever the results of the 2024 election might be. Fox has apparently determined that there is no reason to wait until they’ve already lost next November before starting to whine about election fraud and stirring up future violent insurrections?

To that end, Fox News Senior Trump-fluffer, Maria Bartiromo, invited Newt Gingrich on her Sunday morning propaganda program to gaslight their viewers and set the stage for another effort to undermine democracy. Which led to the following exchange…

Bartiromo: Are the Republicans doing enough to ensure a free and fair election in 2024?
Gingrich: Well, I think it’s almost impossible, under current law, to ensure an accurate election. And I think the only Republican strategy in the long run is to pick issues and win by margins so big that they can’t steal them. If you have a very close election Democrats have a passion for stealing them.”

First of all, the assertion by Gingrich that current law makes it “almost impossible” to have an accurate election is based on nothing more than his reality-challenged imagination. He never bothers to cite which laws he’s referring to. And he is ignoring recent history wherein the allegations of election fraud in 2020 by Trump and his confederates (including Gingrich himself) were universally debunked in more than sixty court cases. They were never able to produce a shred of evidence that any voting irregularities occurred.

Gingrich also engages in textbook projection, wherein he accuses his foes of that for which he and his GOP cohorts are guilty. It is the Republican Party that has exhibited a “passion” for “stealing” close elections by filing frivolous lawsuits to invalidate legitimate votes and voters. And more often than not, it is the GOP that has been caught attempting to commit election fraud.

That said, Gingrich should be encouraged to promote a strategy for Republicans of picking issues with which they can win by big margins. Because he’s been so good at it before. Republicans continue to be convinced that harsh anti-abortion laws, racist immigration policies, pandering to corporations and the wealthy, befouling the planet, and manufactured outrages against buzzwords like CRT, DEI, and “wokism” are the key to their electoral triumphs going forward. Those would all be great subjects for the debates with Democrats next year If Trump doesn’t chicken out.

For his part, Trump has already questioned why he should be bothered with debating his nomination opponents. He is presenting himself as the inevitable victor whose “approval” is required before any debates can be scheduled. “I see that everybody is talking about the Republican Debates, but nobody got my approval,” Trump raged on his floundering Twitter ripoff, Truth Social.

Trump continued saying that, “When you’re leading by seemingly insurmountable numbers, and you have hostile Networks with angry, TRUMP & MAGA hating anchors asking the ‘questions,’ why subject yourself to being libeled and abused?” Which is just his way saying that he’s scared of debating and would rather continue libeling and abusing his foes from the safety of his website and his Mar-a-Lago bunker. Then, with the help of Fox News and flunkies like Gingrich, he can cry about the election being “rigged and stolen” from him again.

ACCORDING TO TRUMP: His Cult Followers are Deadheads Who Flock to See Him Repeat the Same Crap

From the day that Donald Trump descended from the “heaven’s” of his 5th Avenue tower on a golden escalator, his appeal to the dimwit demographic was apparent. His popularity relies on the same tactics employed to mesmerize the glassy-eyed disciples of a religious cult leader.

Trump has fully embraced the mantle of a messiah who demands unflinching loyalty and reverence as the only source of truth. It’s why he maligns the media as “the enemy of the people,” and condemns anyone who is insufficiently worshipful in the harshest terms. And it’s why he portrays himself as infallible, all-powerful, and the lone Earthly source of salvation.

However, Trump sees himself as more than merely the world’s savior. He is also its most beloved pop culture character. He frequently refers to himself devoutly in the third person as “your favorite president, me.” Never mind that he is buried at the bottom of most polls ranking presidential favorability. In a recent survey by Axios/Harris, his Trump Crime Organization was rated the “most hated brand in America.”

On Friday Trump affirmed his adulatory impression of his holiness in an interview. Addressing why so many people attend his cult rallies despite his tedious repetition of the same things at every one, Trump described the lure of his lackeys as being akin to the obsessive compulsions of over-zealous fans…

“You have people that follow the rock bands and they listen to the same songs over and over and over, You have people that go to the Mona Lisa. They love the Mona Lisa and they’ll see it hundreds and hundreds of times, and it gets better every time.” […]

“You’re talking about the border, you’re talking about the military, you’re talking about low taxes, you’re talking about certain things. I can’t just make new things up because I wanna make a speech. I can tell them in different ways and I do sometimes do that, a lot of times. But they just want to hear it again and again.”

Of course. Trump is just like the Mona Lisa. You can hardly tell them apart. And his fans are the same as “Deadheads” (which works on so many levels). Trump believes that his relentless harping on problems that he utterly failed to resolve improves with every telling. But for most Americans his assertion that his lie-riddled rants “get better every time,” is more reminiscent of Beetlejuice, who bragged that “I’ve seen the Exorcist about 167 times, and it keeps getting funnier, every single time I see it”

Trump was also being too modest when he said that “I can’t just make new things up.” Sure he can. He does it all the time. But for some reason, Trump left out the matter that he most often whines about: The 2020 election that he decisively lost to President Biden. His presentations are little more than bitch sessions about how he is the world’s most tormented victim. If his followers fall for that, it really just tells you something about them. And if weren’t for the potential harm that he could cause, it would “keep getting funnier, every single time I see it.”

After Tucker Carlson Fiasco, McCarthy Will Give January 6th Video to More MAGA Propagandists

From the very start of his tenure, Republican House Squeaker, Kevin McCarthy, demonstrated just how brazenly partisan and dishonest his speakership would be. After a historic 15 attempts to secure enough votes to become Speaker, McCarthy was indebted to ultra-rightist underlings like Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene to hold onto the post.

GOP Insurrection

Among the first actions by the new Speaker were the removal of Democrats Adam Schiff, Ilhan Omar, and Eric Swalwell, from their respective committees. Then he formed a bogus committee on “Responsiveness and Accountability Oversight,” whose stated purpose was to “make life Hell” for Democrats. And of course, he oversaw the creation of the House’s first “Anti-Woke” Caucus.

However, nothing was more representative of McCarthy’s radical political prejudices than when he handed over 41,000 hours of video from the January 6th insurrection, that was incited by Donald Trump, to the pro-insurrection, Putin loving poseur, Tucker Carlson. McCarthy claimed that he was making these videos public, but Carlson was the only person who was given access to them. After which, Carlson predictably produced a preposterous program that portrayed the violent MAGA rioters as peaceful tourists visiting the Capitol.

Carlson’s ludicrous narrative was widely mocked and condemned. In fact, he ended up airing only a few carefully edited, and particularly boring, minutes of the 41,000 hours of video over two nights that revealed nothing of significance. Which shouldn’t surprise anyone who has seen Carlson’s other “reporting” on January 6th, wherein he glorifies the rioters and accuses the FBI of orchestrating the whole thing.

McCarthy had promised to eventually release the videos to the public at large, including other media outlets. But three months later, McCarthy is apparently making the videos available to some more well known conspiracy crackpots. According to his boss, Marjorie Taylor Greene (admittedly not the most reliable source)…

“I’m excited to share the good news that just as I promised the J6 tapes are being released!

“@SpeakerMcCarthy has given @jsolomonReports, @Julie_kelly2, and a third outlet unfettered access to the J6 tapes, and their reporting on it starts tomorrow.

“This is the transparency the American people deserve and I look forward to their reporting!”

First of all, doling out the videos to selected conservative hacks is not “releasing” them. Nor is it “transparency” by any rational definition of the word. And what they will produce can hardly be called “reporting.” It is conspiring with confederates to manufacture more malicious propaganda.

What’s more, the people named by Greene are notorious fabricators of political fiction. John Solomon is a disgraced former Fox News contributor whose work is relentlessly slanted toward the ultra-right. Julie Kelly writes for the Trump-fluffing “American Greatness,” website, and is a prominent purveyor of conspiracy theories and slobbering Trump commentaries. The third party to whom McCarthy is giving the videos was apparently too embarrassing to even identify. Perhaps it is Rudy Giuliani or Don Trump Jr.

McCarthy’s refusal to grant access to these videos is a blatantly unethical, and possibly illegal, suppression of public materials and a breach of the First Amendment’s protection of a free press. He has already been sued by a coalition of media enterprises seeking access to the videos. They include CNN, Advance Publications, The Associated Press, CBS News, E.W. Scripps, Gannett, Politico, ProPublica and The New York Times.

Finally, there is a disturbing irony and hypocrisy in McCarthy’s aversion to sharing information. He recently threatened the FBI Director with contempt of Congress for not turning over a document that he wants in order to smear President Biden.

More of Trump’s posts on his floundering Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, are attacks on DeSantis than on any other subject. His Fear of DeSantis transcends his feigned interests in immigration, Russia’s war crimes against Ukraine, the debt ceiling default, and even his imminent legal peril that has already produced 34 felony indictments, with more to come.

On Thursday Trump was campaigning in Iowa where he unleashed yet another assault on “Ron DeSanctimonious,” as Trump calls him. This time it was a catty callout of DeSantis and his tedious rhetoric that certifies a diagnosis of acute “woke mind virus.” That affliction prompted Trump to disavow any association with “wokeism,” a disease that produces severe discombobulation, stupefaction, and dumbfoundery. Trump said that…

“I don’t like the term ‘woke.’ Because I hear the term ‘woke woke woke.’ It’s just a term they use. Half the people can’t define it. They don’t know what it is.”

As absurd as it sounds… Trump is right. Most people (including Trump) can’t define “woke.” And they surely don’t know that it originated in the Black community as a call to be conscious of oppression and discrimination, and to work to overcome the inequities of society. To the Trump/GOP cult it simply means anything that they don’t happen to approve of at a particular moment in time. But Congress will surely get to the bottom of it with their spanking new Anti-Woke Caucus that they claim will stop the “greatest domestic threat to America today.”

However, Trump’s aversion to the term now represents a stark reversal of his prior position. He has frequently used the term when it suited him to do so. Only a week ago his campaign boasted that “When he is re-elected, Pres. Trump will END this woke insanity and restore honest, patriotic education to our classrooms. First, he will FIRE Biden’s woke educrats.” And his adoption of the word goes back nearly two years, when he declared triumphantly that “Everything woke turns to sh*t.” Hmmm… Does that include Fox News?

What makes this “woke-phobia” all the more preposterous is that the war against woke isn’t even an effective political strategy. A recent poll by USA Today/Ipsos found that a majority of Americans have a positive impression of the term. According to the poll…

“Fifty-six percent of those surveyed say the term means ‘to be informed, educated on, and aware of social injustices.’ That includes not only three-fourths of Democrats but also more than a third of Republicans.”

So DeSantis is barking up the wrong trepidation. And Trump isn’t helping himself by playing both sides of the contrived “woke-roversy.” The whole subject is a farce that serves only to distract from the real problems that face Republicans. Namely that their leading candidate is a twice-impeached, serial sexual abuser, who has civil and criminal cases pending for crimes ranging from financial scams to election fraud to inciting an insurrection to espionage. And America is “woke” to that.

McCarthy Threatens FBI Director with Contempt for Not Aiding His Petty Persecution of Biden

The Republican controlled House of Representatives has rapidly proven that it has no real interest in governing and is utterly unfit to do so. Since assuming the barest of majorities, its concerted efforts to smear Democrats have fallen flat as they held hearings that produced little more than rancid allegations with no basis in reality.

Nevertheless, the Republican crusaders continue to pursue their political theatrics with casts of dubious characters as witnesses and fantastical stories as testimony. James Comer, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, leads the GOP’s Bogus Scandal Caucus with ludicrous hearings aimed solely at maligning President Biden and other Democrats.

On Tuesday House Squeaker Kevin McCarthy visited with his propaganda cohorts on Fox News to complain that FBI Director, Chris Wray, has declined to turn over a document that Comer seeks as part of his Biden persecution. McCarthy falsely insisted that he has jurisdiction over the FBI and demanded that they obey his dictate…

“I personally called Director Wray and told him he needs to send that document. Today is the deadline. So let me not tell just you, let me tell Director Christopher Wray right here, right now. If he misses the deadline today, I am prepared to move contempt charges against him.”

McCarthy threatened Wray and the FBI with contempt of Congress if they don’t comply with his petulant demand, saying that “they are not above the law.” Which is particularly ironic considering that McCarthy himself failed to comply with a congressional subpoena last year that was issued by the Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection that Donald Trump incited.

To no one’s surprise, the FBI told Comer and McCarthy that they would not be providing the document in question. Consequently, Comer announced that his Committee “will now be taking steps to hold FBI Director Wray in contempt of Congress.” And you can bet that Wray is shaking in his boots. His boss, Attorney General Merrick Garland, is not likely to proceed with any legal action against Wray. And that’s not because of politics, but because there is no legal justification for it. For the record, the FBI rejected Comer’s original request weeks ago saying that…

“It is critical to the integrity of the entire criminal justice process and to the fulfillment of our law enforcement duties that FBI avoid revealing information — including unverified or incomplete information — that could harm investigations, prejudice prosecutions or judicial proceedings, unfairly violate privacy or reputational interests, or create misimpressions in the public.”

Wray also previously advised the Committee of “the importance of us protecting sources and methods and ongoing investigations.” And an FBI spokesperson told the Committee that “there are strict Justice Department guidelines about when that information can be provided outside of the FBI.” He further educated the GOP inquisitors that the document they seek (an FD-1023 form) is “used by FBI agents to record unverified reporting from a confidential human source.” He elaborated saying that…

“An FD-1023 form documents information as told to a line FBI agent. Recording the information does not validate the information, establish its credibility, or weigh it against other information known or developed by the FBI. The mere existence of such a document would establish little beyond the fact that a confidential human source provided information and the FBI recorded it. Indeed, the FBI regularly receives information from sources with significant potential biases, motivations, and knowledge, including drug traffickers, members of organized crime, or even terrorists.”

In other words, the GOP’s desired document might just be the dishonest ravings of a partisan player with a political axe to grind. It would be irresponsible to disseminate that information as it could defame others and irreparably damage reputations. Which is precisely why Republicans want it. It is their mission to defame and damage their political foes.

Wray knows that McCarthy and Comer cannot be trusted with unverified reports. They would just exploit them for political purposes. And their whining about not getting the information is brazenly hypocritical. During the course of their congressional hearings they have refused to provide information that would validate their accusations. They won’t even give that information to Democrats on the Committee, in violation of committee rules. Their sole objective is to attack Democrats in order to advance their own electoral prospects in the future. They have even said so explicitly…

Trump Proposes a Flagrantly Unconstitutional Executive Order to Revoke Birthright Citizenship

No one is ever going to mistake Donald Trump with anything resembling a constitutional scholar. He has likely never read it, and wouldn’t understand it if he did. Every attempt he has made to cite it is nearly comical, if it weren’t for the deadly serious consequences of his flaming ignorance.

Even worse, to the extent that Trump pretends to grasp the meaning of the Constitution, he holds zero respect for it or the legal authority it has held for more than two centuries. He has complained about the First Amendment protection of freedom of the press by repeatedly maligning the media in Stalinist terms as “the enemy of the people.” He attempted a violent coup in order to cling to power. He even literally called for the termination of the Constitution…

On Tuesday morning Trump took another swipe at America’s constitutional foundations. On his floundering Twitter scam, Truth Social, he posted a video in which he promised to issue an executive order that he thinks would override constitutional law, if he were to be reelected…

“As part of my plan to secure the border on Day One of my new term in office, I will sign an executive order making clear to federal agencies that under the correct interpretation of the law, going forward the future children of illegal aliens will not receive automatic U.S. citizenship.”

There’s just one (at least) problem with that promise. It is a blatant violation of the Constitution’s 14th Amendment that says that “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”

No president, including aspiring authoritarians like Trump, can issue executive orders that violate the Constitution. Not that anyone really needs to worry about Trump keeping promises. After all, with regard to immigration, he previously promised that during his first term he would build a border wall and make Mexico pay for it.

Trump’s video was filled with ludicrous remarks, such as his assertion that Biden “launched an illegal foreign invasion of our country;” that refugees “come from mental institutions [and] jails;” that “many scholars [say] this current policy is based on a historical myth;” and that his policy will “end the unfair practice known as birth tourism [and] chain migration.” [NOTE: Melania Trump allegedly lied in order to reside in the U.S. and later brought in her family via chain migration]

None of that is even tangentially related to reality. And you’ll notice that Trump doesn’t bother to name any of the alleged “scholars” who hold that the actual language of the Constitution is a myth. However, Trump’s hysterical rant leaves out another part of the Constitution that holds a significant relevance. The 14th Amendment also says that…

No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.” [emphasis added]

So according to the Constitution, Donald Trump, as well as numerous Republicans in Congress, should not be permitted to serve due to their having engaged in an insurrection. But despite that prohibition, Trump remains singularly determined to impose his tyrannical dominance over the nation. He has even called for the 2020 election to be declared “irreparably compromised,” paving the way for him to be crowned the new King of America. That’s how sickly un-American he and his glassy-eyed cult disciples are.

Despite Trump’s lead among the MAGA cult that dominates the Republican Party, he is feverishly obsessed with the threat that DeSantis poses to his quest for the nomination. Meanwhile, DeSantis is parading around on right-wing media, hoping to prove that he is more Trumpy than Trump. On virtually every issue DeSantis is running to Trump’s right. He’ll deport more immigrants than Trump. He’ll ban more books than Trump. He hates LGBTQ+ people more than Trump. He’ll suppress more votes than Trump.

Most of all, DeSantis pledges to wage a more hostile, censorious, and totalitarian war against “woke” (whatever that means) than Trump. Even if that means the political genocide of his ideological foes. On Monday morning DeSantis was on Fox News responding why he thinks this is the right time for his campaign…

“Everyone knows that if I’m the nominee that I will beat Biden. I will serve two terms. And I will be able to destroy leftism in this country, and leave ‘woke’ ideology on the dustbin of history.”

First of all, if virtually every recent poll is any indication, DeSantis has little hope of beating President Biden, much less serving two terms. But more disturbing is his promise to “destroy leftism.” Bearing in mind that what Republicans mean when they say anything about the “left” in American politics is every member of, and voter for, the Democratic Party. Republicans thinks that Joe Manchin is a leftist. Having a “D” after your name is a scarlet letter denoting a devotion to Marxism, according to the tunnel-blind cretins of the GOP.

Consequently, DeSantis is advocating the elimination of at least half of the American people. And he thinks that that will be an effective campaign strategy. While it might have some appeal to the glassy-eyed cultists who vote in GOP primaries, it would be disastrous in the general election.

DeSantis is just trying to prove his bona fides as an aspiring autocrat in the mold of Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Un, and Donald Trump. He believes that diverse opinions and free thought must be stamped out in favor of a philosophy of single minded thought control, and punishment – even destruction – for any offenders. His election to any office is a threat to freedom. And it is a course of action he has already implemented in Florida. He must not be permitted to spread it nationwide.
