Fox News CEO Murdoch Admits that the Network Opposes Biden – For Ratings

When Fox News launched twenty-six years ago, its mission was to advance the interests of conservatives and Republicans, and to serve as a partisan counterweight to credible news enterprises and honest journalists. While that was no secret, it’s founders – right-wing newspaper magnate Rupert Murdoch and GOP media consultant Roger Ailes – pretended to be “fair and balanced,” a slogan that falsely implied that other news operations were not (and which Fox ditched four years ago).

Fox News, Joe Biden

This week Rupert’s son, Lachlan Murdoch, who is now the network’s CEO, spoke at a Morgan Stanley investor conference where he said the quiet parts out loud. Apparently, in the Era of Trump and QAnon, it is no longer necessary to veil their biases in cheesy slogans. Murdoch said that…

“‘The main beneficiary of the Trump administration from a ratings point of view was MSNBC … and that’s because they were the loyal opposition,’ Murdoch said of the rival cable network. ‘That’s what our job is now with the Biden administration, and you’ll see our ratings really improve from here.'” […]

“‘Seventy-five million people voted for a Republican president, sometimes in spite of his personality at times,’ Murdoch said. ‘That’s what we represent. We’re going to stick to the center-right. That’s where our audience is.'”

Murdoch was obviously making excuses for the fact that, since the election last November, Fox News has slipped to third place in the cable news wars, behind MSNBC and CNN. Rachel Maddow is now the number one program in all of cable, not just cable news:

However, Murdoch’s explanation is peculiar in that he is also admitting that Fox News is “the loyal opposition” to the the administration of President Joe Biden. That’s wholly inappropriate from a journalistic ethics standpoint. Plus, it implies that they were affirmatively supporting Donald Trump for the past four years. Of course, anyone with a functioning cerebrum knew this, but it was rarely stated explicitly in public by Fox News executives.

What’s more, Murdoch is also saying that the reasons for his network’s blatant bias is for ratings. That’s also improper in the news business, where truth is the standard to which honest journalists aspire. Truth, of course, was the first casualty of Fox’s mangling of the reporter’s craft.

And as if that weren’t bad enough, Murdoch went on to concede the repugnant nature of Trump’s personality, or lack thereof. Yet he is still supporting him because of the voters he hopes to keep as viewers. Murdoch outright slams Trump’s noxious demeanor and, in the same sentence, declares that that’s what Fox News represents, and will continue doing so.

The position that Murdoch is taking is not acceptable for any enterprise that purports to be in the news business. And while he seemingly spoke for MSNBC, NBC didn’t appreciate that presumptuousness:

“A spokesperson for NBCUniversal News Group, which includes NBC News and MSNBC, said in response that ‘our role, and the role of any legitimate news organization — whether it includes an ‘opinion section’ or not — is to hold power to account, regardless of party.'”

And therein lies the difference between Fox News and its competitors. While other news networks may have opinions, they are based on facts and applied uniformly. At Fox News their overt negativity is always aimed the Democrats and the liberals whom they regard as enemies (as conveniently illustrated by Tucker Carlson) this week. Fox’s extreme political prejudice has even irritated other members of the Murdoch family. Lachlan’s big brother James complained about the “toxic” politics practiced by Fox News:

“Those outlets that propagate lies to their audience have unleashed insidious and uncontrollable forces that will be with us for years. […] Spreading disinformation – whether about the election, public health or climate change – has real world consequences.”

That pretty much says it all. And it comes from a source that is embedded well inside the Fox bubble. Unfortunately, James has nothing to do with the network any more, other than being a shareholder. But when Daddy Murdoch is “off the air” that may change. And then, so may Fox.

Fox News Projection: Tucker Carlson Rants Incoherently About ‘Fearful’ Liberals

Concluding a week wherein Fox News was obsessively consumed with their contrived “cancel culture” outrages over Mr. Potato Head and Dr. Seuss, their star primetime bloviator, Tucker Carlson, unleashed a sweaty assault on the liberals he despises. Unsurprisingly, it revealed more about himself than his targets.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson

The theme of Carlson’s psycho-sermon (video below) was that “Modern liberalism is not a coherent worldview […] It’s a deeply unhappy, high-strung personality type.” Anyone who has watched more than a few minutes of Carlson’s program recognizes that this is pure projection. It is also an accurate description of modern rightists as represented by Donald Trump, the Republican Party, and most of the talent(less) on Fox News. Carlson led off his rant by inventing a reality wherein…

“Liberals are a fearful group. The list of things American liberals are afraid of can fill an entire shelf of volumes. It would make an amusing reference set: The Encyclopedia of Liberal Neuroses Unabridged. Absolutely everything upsets liberals, agitates them, and inflames their allergies. Nature itself is a terrifying experience for liberals because they can’t control it.”

Really? If fear and anger are what’s triggering Carlson, he’s missing the real world by a light year or two. It isn’t liberals who have been whining about toys and children’s books for a solid week. It isn’t liberals who censured their own party members for thinking independently. It isn’t liberals who attended CPAC (the Conservative Political Action Cult), and cheered a hysterically angry and frightened Trump harangue. It’s obviously Carlson and his confederates who are upset, agitated, and inflamed, by anything and everything that even mildly criticizes their precious wingnut dogma. But Carlson really skidded off the tracks when he declared that…

“A lot of liberals were certain that March 4, was the day the right-wing revolution would finally begin. March 4, they believed, with something called ‘QAnon Inauguration Day.’ What is QAnon Inauguration Day? We have no idea, and we don’t know anyone who does.”

To be clear, Carlson is admitting that he’s an ignorant dickwad who has no comprehension of current events. That’s a distinct liability for someone on what purports to be a “news” network. He then goes on to describe how the crackpot QAnon conspiracy theory that he never heard of was actually very well known and even warned about by Republicans in Congress. Yet somehow, Carlson – and everyone he knows – never heard of it.

Carlson also belittles the efforts of law enforcement and the National Guard, who prevented additional violence by the StormTrumpers in the days following the January 6th Trump Insurrection. He likens the National Guard to martinets of third-world tyrannical regimes. Is that his way of thanking them for their service?

Carlson suggests that providing security in the face of credible threats, validated by the FBI and Capitol Police, means that the concept of ruling by the consent of the governed is obsolete and anti-democratic. He believes that members of Congress should remain vulnerable to attacks by radical white nationalists or they aren’t really representing their constituents.

That’s really the bottom line for Carlson. He’s fearful and angry that he won’t be able to use force and threats to advance his racist ideology. And somehow Fox News continues to allow him to air this crap.

Texas Governor Whines to Fox News, Blames Biden, After Recklessly Revoking COVID Rules

Much of the country is heaving a sigh of relief as President Biden’s program for increasing the availability of vaccines and the administration of vaccinations has resulted in fewer infections, hospitalizations, and deaths. But that real world sentiment isn’t seeping into the fallacy-sealed craniums of Donald Trump’s glassy-eyed cultists.

Fox News, Covid

On Thursday morning the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, visited Fox News for a typically lie-riddled rant wherein he sought to justify his risky abandonment of all COVID related regulations in the state. Local health officials, as well as the CDC, immediately condemned Abbott’s edict as “premature” and “reckless.” Experts overwhelmingly agree that maintaining the practices of social distancing and mask wearing is necessary to overcome the coronavirus and return to a state of normality. So naturally, Abbott dismisses the experts and the science in favor of awkwardly shifting blame to Biden. He told Fox News that…

“The Biden administration was releasing illegal immigrants into our communities who had COVID. The Biden administration was spreading COVID in South Texas yesterday because of the lack of constraint, of testing and quarantining people who come across the border illegally. The Biden administration was exposing Texans to COVID. That is “Neanderthal” approach to dealing with the COVID situation.”

Abbott’s brazen dishonesty puts him on par with the former Liar-in-Chief, Donald Trump. The Border Patrol is processing asylum requests according to the law, and the law hasn’t changed in the past six weeks. So nothing about that can be attributed to the Biden administration. What’s more, it’s interesting to note that Abbott is asserting that Texans are now facing greater exposure to the coronavirus, but he’s still eliminating the safeguards that would protect his constituents.

However, Abbott’s lies are even worse when taking into account the most recent COVID data in the state as it relates to immigration. Local officials reported that…

“Since the City [of Brownsville] started testing the migrants on January 25, there has been 6.3% of positive cases. The Cameron County positivity rate is 13.8%.”

So immigrants are testing positive at a lower rate than native Texans. The positivity rate statewide is 12.7%. And new cases rose 27% in the past week. These statistics show not only that Abbott is purposefully lying, but they also show the foolishness of his policy to remove the restrictions and allow the virus free rein to infect – and kill – more people in a state that is already near the bottom with regard to COVID cases and fatalities.

One can never underestimate the callousness and cruelty of power-mad Republicans like Abbott. After all, he has already gotten his vaccination, and he lives in a highly secure mansion where he doesn’t have to mingle with the riff raff he rules over, and who he is forcing to live in a more dangerous world. Just like his colleague “Cancun” Ted Cruz. That’s business as usual for the GOP (Greedy One Percent).

Where’s Trump? And Why Isn’t He Ordering His QAnon Troops to Stand Down on March 4?

It has been less than two months since Donald Trump’s Insurrectionist Brigades attacked Congress and the very heart of American democracy. Five people died, and many dozens more were injured. Trump’s incendiary rhetoric in the months and hours prior to the attack clearly show that his role was instrumental in inciting the violent mob.

Trump Charlotsville

Now there is another threat that looms over Washington, D.C. The same criminals who conducted the traitorous riots on January 6th are threatening more violence for March 4th. CNN reports that…

“US officials on Wednesday alerted lawmakers to a potential threat against the US Capitol on March 4, for which security has been enhanced as a precaution, less than two months after the Capitol complex was stormed and lawmakers’ lives were threatened by rioters.

“Information provided by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security warned of increased chatter among extremists, including members of the Three Percenters extremist group, discussing possible plots against the Capitol on March 4, a date that conspiracy theorists have focused on, according to sources familiar with the matter.”

This news raises more questions about where Trump stands in this war against America. We know that he did nothing to stop his seditious supporters on January 6th. And he’s being equally negligent now. Jake Tapper of CNN raised this question, asking Republican congressman Michael McCaul whether Trump has a responsibility to intervene:

Tapper: It seems to me that, whether we’re talking about the attack on January 6th or this possible attack tomorrow, President Trump – these people, these attackers worship him. They love him. They think that they’re doing this in his name. Do you think Donald Trump should be saying more forcefully, clearly. ‘I’m not gonna be inaugurated tomorrow. Joe Biden was elected fair and square.’ That could potentially quell a lot of these violent threats.
McCaul: President Trump has the responsibility to tell them to stand down. This threat is credible. It’s real. It’s a right-wing militia group that believes that because the original inauguration date was March 4th until the 20th Amendment passed, they think that this is the true inauguration day and that President Trump should be inaugurated tomorrow. And that is the threat we face right now.

Exactly! And yet, Trump is nowhere to be found. He could have a significant influence on the glassy-eyed disciples of his perverse cult. They are awaiting his orders. He could prevent more violence and harm. But he’s holed up in his Mar-a-Lago bunker and, not unlike his gross and deliberate inaction on January 6th, he’s probably enjoying the prospect of a horde of StormTrumpers breaking down doors, smashing windows, and shedding blood.

All Trump needs to do is stand before a camera and insist that his goons stay home and refrain from any violent activity. But Trump isn’t making that simple gesture. Why do you suppose that is?

Fox News Can’t Seem to Find Joe Biden – They Must Be Watching Fox News

Another day – another opportunity for Fox News to pretend that President Joe Biden doesn’t exist. For six weeks now Fox News has avoided virtually every public event held by Biden and his administration. They have not aired a single one of his COVID Response Team’s press conferences. Nor have they covered a single one his press secretary’s daily briefings.

Joe Biden, Donald Trump Baby, Fake News

What’s more, Fox News failed to cover the congressional hearings on the January 6th Capitol riots where Donald Trump’s Insurrectionist Brigades staged a deadly assault on democracy. Fox ignored the testimony of FBI Director Christopher Wray, as well as that of the police and security forces that Trump’s flunkies prevented from responding.

By contrast, Fox would carry live airings of Trump burping after slurping down a Diet Coke. Every time Trump showed his face, Fox would dutifully scamper to the scene to broadcast his blatant propaganda and his flagrant and unchallenged lies. Which makes it all the more appalling that Fox’s Sean Hannity would host the network’s newest disinformer, former Trump press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, to pose the burning question: Where’s Joe?

“My question is ‘Where’s Joe?’ It’s been 41 days. At this point President Trump had multiple press appearances. press conferences. President Obama did as well. Joe Biden needs to step up. We need to hear from him. He needs to engage in the transparency he promised us. He hasn’t thus far.”

Perhaps the reason that McEnany and Hannity can’t find Biden is that they’ve been looking for him on Fox News. The truth is that Biden has been making numerous public appearances throughout the first few weeks of his term. The subjects he addressed include:

  • COVID-19 Vaccination Efforts
  • Passing the COVID relief and stimulus plan
  • Racial Equity
  • Containing the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Reversing the 2018 transgender military ban
  • Boosting american manufacturing
  • Climate Change
  • Strengthening Obamacare
  • Immigration reform
  • Jobs and infrastructure
  • Helping small businesses
  • Commemorating 500,000 American lives lost to COVID-19

This isn’t the first time that Hannity has admitted his dreadfully poor journalistic skills failed him. A couple of weeks ago he whined that he couldn’t find Biden during the massive winter storm that devastated Texas. Never mind that Biden was paying close attention and issued emergency declarations to jump start the federal response. It was Texas Sen. Ted Cruz who went missing, as he jetted off to sunnier climes in Cancun, Mexico. But then it was Hannity who complained about “Biden’s Disastrous First Week” after only one day in office.

In place of reporting on the current President of the United States and what he’s doing on behalf of the American people, Fox News has been obsessed with bizarre allusions to what they call “cancel culture.” Lately this has featured tediously repeated segments alleging that Dr. Seuss books have been “canceled” in what they claim is fascism. Fox is blaming this atrocity on Democrats, despite the fact that it was the estate of Dr. Seuss that independently chose to cease publication of a few books that they deemed to be racially insensitive. And of course, let’s not forget that it was Fox who was “canceling” Dr. Seuss not long ago:

Finally, the most prolific “canceler” has to be Donald Trump, who has canceled Fox News. He’s canceled American companies. And he’s even canceled a flock of “disloyal” Republicans. He is a raging volcano of vengeance, determined to destroy anyone who isn’t completely faithful to the Cult of Trump. And while Fox is having trouble finding Biden, it’s actually Trump who has been hiding in his Mar-a-Lago bunker, afraid to poke his head out except for his adoring disciples at CPAC.

Sean Hannity Trolls a Year Old Comment By Dr. Fauci, Ignores His Own Idiocy

The deadly lies by Donald Trump and his media confederates about the coronavirus pandemic have resulted in the tragic deaths of more than half a million Americans. And yet, they continue to brag that their negligence and incompetence has prevented unnecessary fatalities. It’s a charade that masks a psychopathic disregard for the welfare of human lives.

Fox News Sean Hannity

Topping the list of the Trumpian COVID deniers is Sean Hannity of Fox News. From the very start he has been defending Trump’s reckless downplaying of the severity of the pandemic (to which Trump admitted) and regurgitating his flagrant falsehoods. The degree to which Hannity advanced these lies resulted in a study that confirmed that higher rates of coronavirus deaths could be directly linked to watching Hannity.

On Tuesday Hannity thought he would post another of his attempts to “own the libs” by plucking a year old comment by Infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci, completely out of context. Hannity tweeted that…

Of course, Hannity was demonstrating his notorious dishonesty and compulsion to distort reality. Dr. Fauci’s statement was far more nuanced than Hannity’s deceitful editing implies. What Dr. Fauci actually said in February of 2020, before much was known about the virus, was that…

“Right now there’s no need to change anything you’re doing on a day-by-day basis. The risk is low, but that could change.”

He went on to say that there could be a major outbreak, but that it was just not possible to know at that time.

Hannity, on the other hand, made some comments around the same time last year that totally perverted any resemblance to the facts. He told his viewers that the whole matter was a plot by Democrats to hurt Trump. He assured them that there were zero virus deaths in the United States, and that there was nothing to worry about because Trump was handling everything perfectly.

That was 500,000 deaths (and 28 million cases) ago. And now Hannity has the nerve to criticize Dr. Fauci who quite correctly assessed the situation at a moment in time – being careful to make that clear – and who is informed by the knowledge that scientists understand that things change as new data is acquired.

Hannity, on the other hand, ignores facts in favor of fallacies that advance his self-serving agenda and benefit his political idols. And his perceptions remain stuck in ideological concrete no matter how much new information is introduced, or the harm that his stubborn commitment to outdated information will cause. Just like Trump, he ls literally killing his dimwitted followers.

Kayleigh McEnany Tells Fox News She Was SHOCKED By the Violence – that Trump Incited

On Tuesday morning the newest member of the Fox News family made her debut on the conservative propaganda network. Former Donald Trump Press Secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, sat for an interview with Fox’s Harris Faulkner. The segment was as jam-packed with the lies and worshipful adoration that was typical of her many prior appearances on Fox News and her infrequent, always hostile, White House press briefings.

Kayleigh McEnany, Donald Trump

McEnany’s interview aired while FBI Director Christopher Wray was testifying before the Senate about the January 6th Capitol riots. CNN and MSNBC were airing the hearing. Fox News apparently considered McEnany’s interview more newsworthy. Although the riots were a featured part of the interview:

“I think at the beginning of the day before everyone went to the rally, everyone was expecting peace. […] And then as those events transpired, it was disbelief, shock, somber, sad, horrified by the violence. and it was a very hard, difficult day in the White House, there was no doubt. It was a, I should say, widespread feeling, synonymous feeling, completely. A feeling that everyone felt just completely condemning the actions of that day.”

https://twitter.com/TVNewsHQ/status/1366523851300098050

If McEnany was “shocked” by the tragic events that resulted in five deaths and numerous injuries, she must have been in a self-induced coma. The FBI had issued warnings of anticipated hostilities prior to Trump’s inflammatory cult rally. According to the Washington Post

“A day before rioters stormed Congress, an FBI office in Virginia issued an explicit warning that extremists were preparing to travel to Washington to commit violence and ‘war.'” […]

“[T]he alarming Jan. 5 intelligence document was shared ‘with all our law enforcement partners’ through the joint terrorism task force, which includes the U.S. Capitol Police, the U.S. Park Police, D.C. police, and other federal and local agencies.”

What’s more, McEnany’s assertion that there were “synonamous” [sic] feelings of disbelief and horror doesn’t align with the reality as described at the time by former Trump aides who said that “Trump enjoyed watching the events unfold. He was ‘loving watching the Capitol mob.'” Trump himself, in reluctant remarks made hours after the riots began, told the rioters that “We love you,” and that “You’re very special.” The interview continued with Faulkner asking McEnany whether she thought Trump bore any responsibility. Guess what she said:

“No, no I don’t. […] What those rioters did, you know the left says he’s responsible, he’s incited this – or even other Republicans – What I would say to them, well these rioters, if they were so inspired by what the President was saying – they left the speech early because reportedly they showed up at the Capitol before the end of his speech – and then they did the exact opposite of what he said. He said march peacefully and patriotically, and they did the opposite.”

Of course, McEnany is highlighting a few incidental seconds in Trump’s speech at the rally. She’s leaving out months of Trump’s incendiary rhetoric as well as his exhortation at the rally that “if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.”

McEneny went on to describe some people she met months earlier during the campaign who were nice to her, as if that excused the actions of the Trump Insurrectionists. She insisted that the violence was done by people who “do not represent our movement,” despite Trump’s loving embrace of them. She also lied about the focus in the White House being on maintaining peace, contrary to reports by House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy who, in a desperate and profanity-laced phone call, begged Trump for more security, but was told by Trump that the rioters cared more about the election results than McCarthy did.

For the record, McEnany is contradicting Trump, who now says that he requested 10,000 National Guard troops prior to the rally. That, of course, is also a lie. If he had done so, they would have been there. And let’s not forget that McEnany is just as guilty of propagating the Big Lie about the election being “stolen” as Trump is. She also swore that the coronavirus would never come to the United States. Now she’s following her Trump administration colleague, Larry Kudlow, into the Fox News bubble where they can lie with impunity and get paid big bucks for it. Never mind the harm it does politically, and even physically, as we learned on January 6th.

The one truthful statement that McEnany made in this interview was that Trump “changed the Republican Party forever.” Curiously, she portrayed that in a positive light, despite his having presided over the loss of the House, the Senate, and the presidency, and being the lowest rated president in history. He even failed to impress the crowd at the Conservative Political Action Cult (CPAC), where he drew support for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination from only 55% of the attendees. And if that’s the best he can do in a made-for-Trump crowd, he’s looking at losing again in 2024, if he’s dumb enough to run (which he is).

UPDATE: McEnany has already been promoted to co-host of Fox’s Outnumbered>

OBSESSION: Trump Attacked Pres Biden 48 Times in His CPAC Harangue

Traditionally, former presidents gracefully recede from the limelight of the presidency for at least several months as a new chief executive settles into the position. It’s period during which both the president and the people become accustomed to the change and set a course for the future.

Donald Trump, Joe Biden

But never let it be said that Donald Trump ever did anything traditional, graceful, or in the best interests of the people. His ego is far to bloated for that. So after taking the stage at the Conservative Political Action Cult (CPAC) on Sunday afternoon – more than an hour late – Trump proceeded to exalt himself in the familiar torrent of lies and whining that are typical of his public tirades. And true to form, this speech was a rambling outpouring of grievances and vainglorious victimhood.

Trump babbled incoherently for 90 minutes, whining about how he supposedly won the 2020 election. He was recklessly regurgitating the lies that resulted in the deadly Trump Insurrection on Capitol Hill, lies that were repeatedly debunked long ago. He ranted about immigration, his favorite vehicle of bigotry that so titillates his hateful followers. And he made the bizarre claim that no one ever said “I love you,” to any previous American president. President Obama has a ready response to that…

Trump’s CPAC sermon had one particularly conspicuous thread running through it. His obsession with President Joe Biden was evident throughout. He name-checked Biden forty-eight (48!) times. And each mention was another opportunity to lash out with wholly unsupported invectives and flagrant falsehoods. He led off with this ludicrous assessment of Biden’s term in office that has elapsed for all of one month:

“We all knew that the Biden administration was going to be bad, but none of us even imagined just how bad they would be. […] Joe Biden has had the most disastrous first month of any president in modern history.”

And Trump’s disparaging discourse was all downhill from there. Interestingly, he didn’t reserve his hostility for Biden and the Democrats. While castigating “the fake news media and their toxic cancel culture,” Trump embarked on a cavalcade of the coarsest political and cultural cancelation:

“We cannot have leaders who show more passion for condemning their fellow Americans than they have ever shown for standing up to Democrats, the media and the radicals who want to turn America into a socialist country. Instead of attacking me and more importantly, the voters of our movement, top establishment Republicans in Washington should be spending your energy and opposing Biden, Pelosi, Schumer, and the Democrats.” […]

“The Democrats don’t have grand-standers like Mitt Romney, little Ben Sasse, Richard Burr, Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Pat Toomey; and in the House, Tom Rice, South Carolina, Adam Kinzinger, Dan Newhouse, Anthony Gonzalez. That’s another beauty. Fred Upton, Jamie Herrera Butler, Peter Meyer, John Katko, David Valadeo. And of course the warmonger, a person that loves seeing our troops fighting, Liz Cheney.”

Did he leave anyone out? Oh yeah. There were “The RINOs that we’re surrounded with [who] will destroy the Republican Party and the American worker and will destroy our country itself.” This isn’t the first time that Trump has gone after these GOP traitors.

Fox News hasn’t been spared the whip either. Even though Fox News was the only major news network that offered a live airing of Trump’s CPAC-of-lies.

For the record, despite Fox’s obedient carriage of everything Trump does and says, to date Fox News has not aired a single White House press briefing, which the Biden team has returned to doing daily. Nor have they aired a single press conference by the White House COVID-19 Response Team.

The most startling thing about this stump screech is that anyone could listen to it again. After all, it is nearly identical to every blather-fest that Trump has presided over for the past four years. It’s only been updated to include the Big Lie about the “stolen” election. But his cult disciples seem totally unaware that they are being subjected to a robo-speech on an endless loop. Which is the best evidence that they have indeed been indoctrinated into a glassy-eyed cult of Trump worshipers. Where they go one, they go all.

CPAC: Conservative Political Action Cult Disciples Ask ‘What Are Our Marching Orders?’

As a testament to the efficiency and competency of Donald Trump and his ultra-rightist brigades, the website for the Conservative Political Action cult (CPAC) has been down for hours, and still is at the time of this writing. And this is on the big day when Trump is delivering his first “Post-Presidential Losers Address.” Metaphors abound.

Donald Trump Rally, Sieg Heil

Why anyone is looking forward to Trump’s speech is a complete mystery. Anyone who has been watching him for the past few years knows exactly what he’s going to say. He will touch on the only four speaking elements he knows: Lying, whining, insulting, and bragging.

Prior to the Trump keynote, Matt Schlapp, the head of the American Conservative Union that stages this affair, delivered his own remarks. The interview that followed began with the moderator asking what he said was the question uppermost on the minds of the conference attendees:

Moderator: I went around the lobby this morning asking people what they wanted me to ask you. And person after person said “Ask Matt what are our marching orders.”

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that these glassy-eyed devotees of Trump are pensively pacing the halls of the Hyatt wondering what in hell they should be doing and pleading for some authority figure to provide the guidance they require to function.

Schlapp responded with a quote by Pope Paul II, who said “Be not afraid.” And then said that “they’re trying to make you afraid,” Schlapp warned. “They’re trying to make you afraid that you’ll lose your job if you have a MAGA hat.” He went on to criticize violent demonstrations and assaults on police without mentioning the Trump Insurrection at the Capitol or the cops who were killed and injured there by Trump supporters. And then he closed by saying that…

“We have to start – each one of us – saying that this is the truth. And we are gonna keep saying that. And if all of us do it together, guess what? they can’t can’t shut half of us up. They simply can’t. If red states are joined by people of goodwill who love the country, they will not cancel America.”

In other words, keep on repeating the lies we’ve mapped out like a mantra until it is indelibly engraved on your otherwise useless grey matter. Keep telling yourself that Trump won by a landslide; that the election was stolen; that Trump is an infallible beacon of virtue; that Democrats are sex-trafficking baby eaters. And your desires will be fulfilled on March 4th when Trump is inaugurated as the 19th President of the United States – unless he isn’t and we have to think up some other idiotic conspiracy theory.

The results of the annual CPAC straw poll were also released and they contained some interesting revelations. For instance, when asked “Would you like to see Donald Trump run again for president in 2024?” only 64% of the respondents said “Yes.” Another 15% said “No,” and 17% were unsure. That’s a pretty awful number for a pool of devoted Trumpists, 87% of whom strongly approved of his job as president.

Also surprising was the response to the question “If the Republican primary were held today, who would you vote for?” Only 55% chose Trump. Florida governor Ron DeSantis got 21% (the conference is being held in Florida). No one else got above 4%.

If Trump’s support is this shaky among this crowd, it’s impossible for him and his shills to keep pretending that he’s the presumptive nominee for 2024, much less the future of the crumbling Republican Party. And of course, none of this takes into consideration the prospect that it will be difficult for him to campaign from prison.

Donald Trump Jr’s Shoddy Shots at Cuomo Blow His Dirty Daddy to Bits

The first month of President Joe Biden’s administration has not exactly been living up to the “sleepy” sobriquet that Donald Trump tried to tar him with. Biden has launched an unusually productive 100 day initiative that has already seen him drafting a COVID relief bill; reversing Trump’s Obamacare sabotage; rejoining the Paris Climate Accords and the World Health Organization; and introducing a comprehensive immigration reform bill.

Donald Trump Jr

None of those achievements. however, can be seen by the willfully ignorant shills at Fox News. And, not surprisingly, the Trump Crime Family is equally as blind. In his haste to lash out incoherently (just like daddy), Donald Trump Jr. left an indelible stain of doofus on his Twitter feed. He was aiming at the already imperiled Democratic governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, but fell wide of his mark:

Seriously? First of all, pretty much all of the media has reported on Cuomo’s current tribulations, including the New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, CNN, all the national broadcast networks, and more. Donnie needs to come out of his self-imposed, tunnel-blind, Fox News BS bubble.

Secondly, the difference between Democrats and Republicans is made glaringly obvious by this controversy. Where Republicans would circle the wagons and defend their cretinous cads against credible allegations of sexual harassment – and even redouble their support for their most loathsome louts – Democrats are repulsed by harassers regardless of party. Many are already calling for consequences for Cuomo including resignation or at least being subjected to an independent inquiry (which Cuomo himself has called for).

That openness to scrutiny is another D vs R distinction. Republicans refuse to be scrutinized, instead resorting to viciously disparaging their accusers. Democrats want the truth to come out, although some are understandably reluctant to allow Republicans to goad them into partisan political brawls. Stalwart Democrats from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to Jerold Nadler are speaking out unambiguously about the need for transparency and truth-telling.

More to the point, Junior’s attacks on Cuomo are painfully oblivious to the detestable record of Daddy Trump. On every point Junior posted, his father is an even worse offender. To begin with, Trump the Elder has been credibly accused of sexual harassment, abuse, and even rape, by dozens of women. With regard to COVID-19 fatalities, Trump is single-handily responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths. And how Junior can even raise the issue of pardons after his father granted them for numerous cronies and criminal co-conspirators is stunningly audacious.

If Republicans generally, and Donnie in particular, continue to insist that Cuomo’s political career be terminated, then they need to be consistent and apply the same standard to Trump (and Jim Jordan, Madison Cawthorn, Brett Cavanaugh, to name a few). With dozens of accusers, Trump should never have been allowed to serve in the first place. And his negligent, incompetent, and even deliberately malfeasant mishandling of the COVID pandemic should result in a permanent banishment from civil society, if not eternal damnation. Until Junior has acknowledged those realities he should keep his filthy mouth shut.
