Trump’s Thanksgiving Tweets Tell America to Stuff It and Praise a Felonious Turkey He Pardoned

If there is one thing that Donald Trump is known for, it’s posting epically incoherent commentaries on social media that are simultaneously hysterical and frightening. And this Thanksgiving isn’t any different. The Whiner-in-Chief couldn’t refrain from dispensing his trademark brand of anti-American negativity when supposedly wishing the nation a happy holiday, along with self-serving inferences about how we are failing and going in the wrong direction.

Donald Trump Chicken

Past examples of Trump’s Thanksgiving tirades include the year when he was asked what he was most thankful for and he replied himself. And then there was the year that he insulted the troops for Thanksgiving (and also thanked himself). Last year Trump was too consumed with fury over his “Big Lie” about the election to celebrate Thanksgiving. This year Fox News joined the War on Thanksgiving by criticizing President Biden for wanting to spend the holiday with his family.

Despite that record of unrelenting holiday derp, Trump may have outdone himself this year. On Wednesday he posted a tweet (via his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill) that sinks fathoms below even his pathetically low standards. He babbled that…

“The Unselect Committee issued a subpoena to Bernie Kerik, an American Patriot and great former Police Commissioner of New York City, for its Jan. 6th Witch Hunt, but didn’t realize what they were demanding is a massive trove of evidence of Voter Fraud. According to Bernie’s lawyer, these documents show significant indicators of fraud in the 2020 Presidential Election Scam, but have remained hidden from the public. It is exactly what the Unselect Committee should be interested in—if this was a real investigation.

“Bernie wants to comply with the subpoena with a public hearing, and asked me to waive attorney-client privilege so Bernie can testify and provide documents, which I grant him. The Unselect Committee will not like what they asked for!”

There’s a lot to unpack in that terse discharge. Let’s begin with Trump unveiling another of his infantile nicknames that he imagines are brilliant putdowns. He calls the bipartisan Congressional Select Committee investigating his culpability for the January 6th insurrection “Unselect.” That’s the sort of wit for which he will go down in history with hapless comic trolls who never made it out of the third grade.

The subject of Trump’s Twantrum is Bernie Kerik, a Rudy Giuliani henchman who spent three years in prison after pleading guilty to eight felony charges, and was later pardoned by Trump. That’s the sort sort of cretin that Trump regards as a “patriot.”

Trump is in a tizzy because Kerik was subpoenaed by the Committee, but consoled by his delusion that Kerik has “a massive trove of evidence of Voter Fraud” that he thinks will be revealed should he testify. Of course, this Committee isn’t investigating Trump’s election “Big Lie” fantasies and is unlikely to waste time with Kerik’s alleged evidence. And Trump’s assertion that Kerik has been hoarding proof of fraud that has been “hidden from the public” for nearly a year is laughably absurd. If they actually had such evidence, why have they been keeping secret for so long?

Nevertheless, Trump is exuding confidence that this is such a dramatic turning point that he is granting Kerik a waiver of attorney-client privileges. That’s awfully generous of him. Never mind that Kerik is not an attorney and never represented Trump, so there is no such applicable privilege to waive. For the record, the Committee subpoenaed Kerik because he…

“…reportedly participated in a meeting on January 5, 2021, at the Willard Hotel in Washington D.C., in which Rudolph Giuliani, Stephen Bannon, John Eastman, and others discussed options for overturning the results of the November 2020 election such as, among other things, pressuring Vice President Pence not to certify the electoral college results.”

Kerik is disputing those allegations. Which is peculiar because he previously admitted that “his firm billed the Trump campaign more than $55,000 for rooms for the legal team [and] was later reimbursed, records show.”

So this all just more desperate noise from Trump and his minions as they try to muddy the waters with deflections and lies. If Kerik follows through on his promise to testify before the Committee, we will see if Trump’s prediction that the Committee “will not like what they asked for” comes to pass. But if history is any guide it will be Trump who doesn’t like the results.

Trump Throws Antifa Tantrum Over January 6th Insurrection on Sean Hannity’s Fox News Fluff Fest

Nearly ten months ago Donald Trump dispatched his psycho StormTrumpers to the Capitol in a doomed but deadly attempt to stage a violent coup. The January 6th insurrection revealed the chilling lengths that the Cult of Trump would go to in order to seize power for a tyrannical madman.

Donald Trump Rally, Sieg Heil

In the months that followed, Trump has doggedly pursued his single-minded obsession with undermining democracy and exalting himself as America’s first dictator. Much of that objective involved justifying the brutality of the rioters that he incited. From the start he portrayed the rioters as “patriots” and told them that he “loved” them. Despite voluminous video evidence of violence against people and property, Trump told Laura Ingraham of Fox News that his neo-fascist fanatics posed “zero threat.”

Trump is still peddling those pernicious and self-serving lies. The latest episode occurred Tuesday evening on Sean Hannity’s Fox News Fluff Fest (video below) where Trump did what he does best: Whine! He ranted for the full hour about his delusional claims that he won the “rigged and stolen” presidential election, insisting that the real insurrection occurred on November 3, 2020 (election day), not January 6th. And he complained about Congress having the gall to investigate the worst assault on the U.S. seat of government since the Civil War. He blathered that…

“Our country focuses on so many of these fake investigations and we don’t focus on greatness any longer. Everything is an investigation. You look at what’s going on now when you have an ‘Unselect’ Committee – it’s an ‘Unselect.’ And the way they’re treating people. And yet Antifa, who are bad…BLM…You look at all of the horror shows and the death and destruction they cause. And they don’t go after them. But they go after people that in many cases – not in all cases – but in many, many cases are patriots. And you had some bad people – if you look at what happened at the Capitol – you had some bad people that were not patriots at all. And they came from other places including Antifa and including others, and they led a lot of people astray. They don’t want to cover that. They don’t want to cover the election results.”

First of all, there wouldn’t be so many investigations if Trump and his confederates didn’t commit so many crimes. No president has had more administration and campaign associates indicted and convicted than Trump, who was impeached twice himself. And if he really wants to focus on greatness, he might consider the unprecedented success of the Biden administration that has accomplished more in ten months than Trump did in four years.

Trump also reaffirms his infantile temperament with his “Unselect” nickname, for the bipartisan House Select Committee, that would make an eight year old cringe. He further asserts that the criminals who stormed Congress are being treated poorly because they are being held accountable for their crimes.

What’s more, Trump’s complaint that the election results weren’t covered is really just his desperate yearning for his lies about nonexistent election fraud to be accepted, despite the utter absence of any evidence after nearly a year, more than sixty court cases, and the indefatigable efforts of the MyPillow crackpot, Mike Lindell, and Fox News.

However, where Trump really skids off the rails is with his defense of the rioters as “patriots” and his baseless assertion that the “bad people” were clandestine members of the fictional foils of the far right, Antifa. But while Trump and others of his ilk seek to falsely lay the blame for all civil unrest on Antifa, Trump’s own Department of Homeland Security concluded that it is right-wing extremists who pose the most risk of violence.

Trump’s ludicrous accusations against imaginary leftist agitators also contradicts much of what is claimed by his own supporters. Tucker Carlson, for instance, is convinced that it wasn’t Antifa but the FBI that orchestrated the January 6th insurrection. He even produced a lie-riddled, multipart crocumentary on the subject that he titled “Patriot Purge.” And Trump fanboy Alex Jones posted his own video confession that his orders for the insurrection came directly from Trump.

Given the rampant dishonesty and incoherent ramblings of Trump and his dimwitted disciples, it is impossible to take his latest spleen venting seriously. Not that that was ever considered by rational thinkers. But it is still unsettling to see him persisting with this line of asininity. And it is even more troubling to know that there are mental defectives like Carlson, Jones, and most of the Republican Party who continue to put their faith in Trump’s fever dreams.

Fox News Hack Peter Doocy Wages War on Thanksgiving, Press Sec Jen Psaki Slaps Him Down

This week Americans across the country will be gathering to celebrate the Thanksgiving holidays with their families. It’s a longstanding tradition that brings people together for feasts and fellowship. However, it is not without controversy. And like Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day, and every other traditional holiday, Fox News is convinced that there is a war on it.

Jen Psaki, Fox News, Peter Doocy

This year, however, it is Fox News itself that has declared a War on Thanksgiving. And the first attack was launched in the White House Press Briefing Room by Fox’s own Peter Doocy:

Doocy: The President said today, he said that he was sent here to look out for these middle-class families who are strained right now. So what should they read into his leaving now at this time of great personal financial hardship for so many to go to Nantucket for the week?
Psaki: Well, first I would say, Peter, that I hope you’re spending time with your family. I’m spending time with my family. I hope everybody in here is spending time with their families. This is a time to put politics aside, spend time with your loved ones, and talk about what you’re grateful for. I will also tell you that spending some time with this President and with past presidents, that you are President no matter where you are.

So Doocy thinks that President Biden has to answer for his desire to spend Thanksgiving with his family? He thinks that it is somehow inappropriate for the President to celebrate the holiday the same way every other American does. And he thinks that Biden can’t perform his presidential duties wherever he happens to be. According to Doocy, if Biden congregates with his family he is failing his obligations to the nation.

Press Secretary Jen Psaki replied to Doocy’s asinine inquiry by gently shredding the whole premise of his question. Then she schooled him like child about how the modern presidency is not a job that must be tied down to a particular place. He is also ignoring everything that Biden is currently doing to address the financial hardships that people are going through.

What went unsaid is that if Biden had canceled his family’s holiday plans, Doocy would have asked why the President hates Thanksgiving. It hardly matters what the facts of any circumstance are, Fox News will endeavor to construct a question that attempts to make the President look bad. If Biden walked on water, Fox News would report that he can’t swim. If he cured cancer, Fox News would report that he’s putting doctors out of work.

The knee-jerk negativity of Fox News has no boundaries for ethics or honesty. If Biden got 200 million Americans vaccinated, opened up schools and businesses, reduced unemployment to 4.6%, restored the nation’s international reputation, and passed a historic infrastructure bill that prepared America for the future, created jobs, and mitigated some of the most harmful causes of climate change, Fox News would malign him as a mentally deficient socialist.

Oh wait. Biden did do all of those things, and Fox News does attack him for it. At least Fox is consistent with their factless bashing of all things Democratic and their ultra-rightist propaganda.

WATCH: Alex Jones Says His Orders for the January 6th Insurrection Came from Trump

The House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection just issued five more subpoenas for documents and testimony from Donald Trump’s collaborators in the riots that he incited in Washington, D.C. The list includes two of Trump’s most devoted henchman, political dirty trickster, Roger Stone, and notorious conspiracy crackpot, Alex Jones.

Alex Jones Infowars

The Committee’s announcement of the latest batch of subpoenas noted that their purpose is to seek “information about the rallies and subsequent march to the Capitol that escalated into a violent mob attacking the Capitol and threatening our democracy.” And to that end they spelled out the specific reasons for selecting these individuals to appear.

RELATED: CNN’s Killer Video Mash Up: Tucker Carlson is the New Alex Jones

The subpoena for Alex Jones was especially revealing. It provided a detailed account of his complicity with Trump in his attempted coup. For instance, the subpoena affirmed that Jones stated that…

“…the White House told you on or about January 3, 2021, that after the Ellipse rally ended on January 6th, you were to lead a march to the Capitol, where President Trump would meet the group […] and to gather on the east side of the Capitol to hear President Trump speak.”

This is not a speculative assertion by the Committee. There is video evidence of Jones stating that his actions were being directed by the Trump administration. Jones said that…

“The White House told me three days before, we’re gonna have you lead the march. The Secret Service, before Trump finishes thirty minutes before, will lead you to point, take you out of the front row, and lead you to the place where they want you to start the march. And Trump will tell people ‘Go, and I’m gonna meet you at the Capitol.'”

Of course, the Coward of the Mar-a-Lagoon never showed up at the Capitol as Jones – and Trump himself – had promised. He left his StormTrumpers in the lurch, and hundreds of them are now facing criminal charges for following his orders. The Jones subpoena also stated that…

“…you and others on Infowars repeatedly promoted President Trump’s allegations of election fraud and urged people to come to Washington, D.C., for the January 6 Ellipse rally, and made statements implying that you had knowledge about the plans of President Trump with respect to the rally.”

So according to Jones, Trump was fully involved in the planning of the rally and the violent events that took place afterward. While Jones has been known to lie almost as much as Trump, it is unlikely that he would fabricate a falsehood that implicated his hero in criminal activities. If Jones is ever to be believed, it is about these matters, wherein he asserted that…

“…finally Trump has done the right thing…He is now calling on We the People to take action and show our numbers…This is the most important call to action on domestic soil since Paul Revere and his ride in 1776. The time for games is over. The time for action is now. […] If you allow this multinational consortium to steal this election, you have committed not just us, but yourselves to a living hell.”

It is significant that Jones cited Paul Revere’s ride in his “call to action.” Revere was tasked with alerting the colonists that the time for violent revolution had arrived. Which is exactly what Jones and Trump were trying to do. Jones explicitly said that “[Trump] is calling on Americans to march on D.C. to save our country from a foreign takeover.” That doesn’t sound like a pitch for a peaceful protest, does it?

Trump’s response to the new batch of subpoenas was typically deranged and drenched with hyperbole. In a tweet (posted by his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill), Trump ranted that…

“The Democrats are feasting on January 6th, with no Republicans on the Unselect Committee (Cheney and Kinzinger are not Republicans!) but they are refusing to even discuss the root cause of that protest, which was the insurrection that took place during the November 3rd Presidential Election. We had a Rigged and Stolen Election in our Country, the proof is voluminous and everywhere, but the Democrats refuse to even mention or discuss it. It’s called Cancel Culture, and until that is done, this Country will never heal!”

This is reflective of the dementia-addled Trump stuck in broken record mode. And it is well stocked with steaming bullshittery. First of all, Trump doesn’t get to decide who is Republican. Second, the “root cause of the protest” was the “Big Lie” that he and Fox News and other defilers of democracy have been spewing for months. Third, his tedious claim that a valid election affirmed by all fifty states, and more than sixty court cases, was the real insurrection is both ludicrous and dangerous. And finally, Trump’s claim that “the proof [of election fraud] is voluminous and everywhere,” would make more sense if after a year he could actually provide some.

The House January 6th Committee has a great burden to hold the perpetrators of the insurrection accountable. It is an unprecedented task for the Congress, and is hampered by the fact that Republican members remain devoted to the Cult of Trump. But the Committee is benefitting from the big mouths of the conspirators like Jones and Stone. And, of course, the biggest mouth of all, Donald Trump. Their ignorant and arrogant public confessions may provide the best opportunity for justice to be served.

SAVE THE DATE: MyPillow Pinhead Mike Lindell is Organizing a Protest Against Fox News

This holiday season Americans will be busy visiting with friends and family and planning festivities for Christmas and New Year’s. It is a season full of joy and comradery and hope. But Mike Lindell, the MyPillow mogul who has become Donald Trump’s foremost election fraud flouting flunky, would like you all to keep open some time for another of his screwball circus acts.

Donald Trump, Mike Lindell, MyPillow

Lindell has announced that he is organizing a public protest against Trump’s Ministry of Disinformation, Fox News:

“We are going to do something out in front of Fox News, I think we should have – you know, if people want to go down there, maybe we should give out Frank Speech signs. [Fox News is] a big part of our country being taken from us.”

Based on the record of abject failure of Lindell’s previous media events, this demonstration promises to be an affair to dismember. It will rank up there with his “Absolute Proof” crocumentary, wherein he declared that he would provide irrefutable evidence that Trump won the election. His presentation was a spectacle of hyperventilating harangues and hothead hyperbole. The only thing it was missing was the “proof” part. Although it did earn him a hysterical disclaimer from OAN prior to airing it, and a place in the billion dollar defamation lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems.

Lindell also staged a “cyber symposium” that likewise guaranteed confirmation of election fraud. But this event was so preposterous that even Fox News refused to accept advertising for it. As a result, Lindell pulled all of his ads from Fox. Which must have upset Tucker Carlson where MyPillow was his biggest – and pretty much last – advertiser.

Lindell isn’t the only right-winger who is angry with Fox News. Trump has been bashing them regularly, despite continuing to appear with devoted Trump-fluffers like Jeanine Pirro, Sean Hannity, Maria Bartiromo, Laura Ingraham, and Mark Levin. And with the release of Tucker Carlson’s horrifically anti-American diatribe, “Patriot Purge,” – that defends the violent January 6th StormTrumper riots in Washington, D.C. – many staunchly conservative Republicans, and even Fox News staffers, are distancing themselves from the network. NPR is reporting that…

[Fox anchors] Bret Baier and Chris Wallace, shared their objections with Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott and its president of news, Jay Wallace. Those objections rose to Lachlan Murdoch, the chairman and CEO of the network’s parent company.”

None of the Fox executives responded to NPR’s request for comments. However, two longtime Fox contributors, Steven Hayes and Jonah Goldberg, did respond. They just resigned citing Carlson’s pro-insurrection piece as the last straw. And their resignations touched off a wave of support from other Fox regulars.:

  • Liz Cheney: “Thank you @stephenfhayes and @JonahDispatch for standing up for truth and calling out dangerous lies.”
  • Charlie Sykes: “Good.”
  • Adam Kinzinger: “This…. Leading by example. Nice job”
  • Bill Kristol: “Kudos to @stephenfhayes and @JonahDispatch for standing up to Fox, yelling Stop, at a time when few other conservatives are inclined to do so.”
  • Stuart Stevens: “Until @FoxNews commits itself to journalism, anyone who cares about democracy shouldn’t work there or advertise. Doesn’t really hold up to say ‘I support a channel because not every show is a racist attack on democracy, just the most popular'”

This exodus from Fox News may seem like a positive development that could impact their future editorial mission. But don’t count on it. The honchos at Fox don’t appear the least bit interested in slanting back toward sanity and/or reality. And CNN’s Jim Acosta articulated that in a succinct assessment of the state of Fox News:

UPDATE: The Fox News protest was, predictably, a total bust that drew about dozen Lindell flunkies.

Ted Cruz Gets Fact-Checked While Advancing Trump’s ‘Big Lie’ on Face the Nation

Some Republican Trump-fluffers seem to be impervious to shame. They persist in making preposterous statements that contrast profoundly with reality, even after their lies have been thoroughly debunked. And no one has a greater ability to cast off being publicly disgraced than Sen. Ted Cruz.

Ted Cruz, Donald Trump

Cruz, after all, is best known for abandoning his freezing constituents in Texas to take a vacation in sunny Cancun. More recently he was shot down in a blistering Twitter war with his congressional colleagues.

Undeterred, Cruz was interviewed Sunday on CBS’s Face the Nation by Margaret Brennan (video below). When the subject of Donald Trump inciting the January 6th insurrection in Washington, D.C. came up, Cruz sought to take a superficially rational stand against violence. “If you’re right-wing, left-wing, or have no ideology at all,” Cruz began, “If you commit an act of violence, if you assault a police officer, if you’re violent against anyone, you should be prosecuted and go to jail.”

True to form, Cruz is merely mouthing what he believes is a politically correct stance against violence. And his talking points were utterly disingenuous and marred by insinuating that the violence on that day could have been committed by either right or left wingers. The truth is that, while the halls of congress were still stained with blood, Cruz made a plea to sweep the sedition under the rug and hold nobody accountable saying “We must come together and put this anger and division behind us.”

That is not exactly an appeal for justice to be served to the insurrectionists who stormed Congress and threatened its members, as well as injuring more than 140 police officers. But Cruz was just getting started. He followed up his anti-violence lecture with yet another endorsement of Trump’s “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged.” Which led to the following exchange with Brennan.

Cruz: We right now have a substantial chunk of our country that has real doubts about the integrity of the election. And if we had had a credible electoral commission do an emergency audit, it would have enhanced faith in democracy. But instead Democrats and a lot of the press decided to just engage in incendiary rhetoric rather than acknowledge voter fraud is real, it is a problem, and the allegations of voter fraud needed to be examined on the merits.
Brennan: Senator there is no evidence of fraud that would have drawn the outcome of the election into doubt. You know that.

What Cruz purposefully fails to mention is that the “substantial chunk” of Trump chumps who have delusional “doubts about the integrity of the election,” was created by liars like Cruz himself, with an assist from Fox News. But Cruz went on to pat himself on the back for lobbying for a bipartisan electoral commission to study the wholly fictitious allegations of voter fraud. Maybe he would also like to form a commission to study the flatness of the Earth, because a substantial chunk of Americans believe in that too.

Cruz’s suggestion that an audit would have calmed everyone’s post-election jitters was already proven to be bogus. When the Arizona fraudit by the rabidly partisan Cyber Ninjas was released showing that Biden did indeed win the election, Trump had a hissy fit and his cult followers pretended it didn’t exist.

It was Trump who continued to spew the “incendiary rhetoric” that led to the January 6th insurrection. And contrary to his sudden interest in peace and bipartisan commissions, Cruz voted against the one that was proposed to study the Capitol Hill riots. So much for his claim that anyone who committed violence be prosecuted and jailed. That was just another falsehood on behalf of his Dear Leader.

BOO HOO: Trump Cries ‘Witch Hunt’ Over Probe of His ‘Unprecedented and Incredible Coronavirus Response’

Donald Trump, America’s most fabulous whiner (in his own words) is wallowing in his own victimhood again. It’s a character flaw that has been prominent throughout his public life. In his paranoid, narcissistic fog he truly believes that everyone is out to get him.

Donald Trump, Witch Hunt

In a frantic Saturday afternoon tweet fraught with desperation (and posted by his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill), Trump whined petulantly that…

“The Communist Democrats are engaging in yet another Witch Hunt, this time going after my Administration’s unprecedented and incredible coronavirus response, despite the fact that, sadly, more Americans have died this year from Covid than in all of 2020.”

You can always tell when Trump is triggered by the way he hurls absurd adjectives like “Communist” around as if he actually knows what they mean. But in this case he also correctly acknowledges that his response to the COVID pandemic was “unprecedented” (as in negligent and incompetent beyond anything that preceded it) and “incredible” (as in having no credibility whatsoever)

What’s more, Trump reveals that he has absolutely no idea how pandemics work. The reason that fatalities have persisted through this year is precisely because of his malfeasance. He lied about its severity early on, then refused to advocate mitigating measures such as masks and vaccines. As a result, this is now a pandemic of the unvaccinated, who are predominantly Trump supporters and Fox News viewers. But he was just getting started…

“It is a Witch Hunt that’s been going on for years. Why don’t they investigate Crooked Hillary, when so much has now been proven about her and her campaign’s lies and dealings with Russia to smear me and spy on my campaign? I’m telling Peter Navarro to protect executive privilege and not let these unhinged Democrats discredit our great accomplishments. The Witch Hunts must end!”

Of course. It’s a “Witch Hunt.” And that makes it the perfect opportunity to deflect by bringing up preposterous and previously debunked allegations against Hillary Clinton. Then Trump finally gets around to what set him off. His sycophantic fan boy, Peter Navarro, has received a subpoena. According to Politico

“A congressional committee investigating the Trump administration’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic issued a subpoena for former White House trade adviser Peter Navarro on Thursday for failing to respond to document requests. […] The committee is probing whether former Trump administration officials mishandled the federal response to the pandemic, specifically whether it interfered with its own health agencies’ work and how it attempted to change its messaging to downplay the threats posed by the virus.”

As usual, Trump is stonewalling an investigation that an innocent person would embrace as an opportunity to be exonerated. But Trump knows he’s guilty, so he’s attempting to invoke executive privilege, just as he has with Steve Bannon and his other partners in crime, despite the fact that he is no longer president and has no legal claim to it. The documents that Congress is seeking belong to the American people. So Navarro can look forward to a federal indictment should he choose to defy the subpoena.

As for Trump, his demand that the “Witch Hunt” end is going to go unheeded for a very good reason: It has been uncommonly successful at finding actual witches. His campaign and administration has accounted for far more federal indictments than any other president. And there are more to come. Including for Trump himself, the Warlock in chief.

Were Fox News and Tucker Carlson Directing and Bankrolling the Kyle Rittenhouse Defense?

The acquittal of the teenage vigilante, Kyle Rittenhouse, revealed some painful truths about the American justice system. Apparently a minor crossing state lines with an unlawfully possessed weapon to confront people protesting racial injustice, and killing two of them, is self-defense and perfectly legal. Hmm. Good to know.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Bullshit Factory

Right-wingers across the country are celebrating the pretend cop and medic, Rittenhouse, as a hero, despite his having murdered two unarmed men who were engaging in a lawful protest. Which is peculiar because when Ashli Babbitt was killed by an actual police officer while she was violently storming the Capitol, and threatening the lives of elected representatives and the Vice President, and trying to illegally prevent Congress from carrying out their constitutional duties, the same rightist politicians and pundits assailed it as an assassination.

However, an appearance on CNN by Rittenhouse’s attorney, Mark Richards, revealed something else that should raise serious concerns. Without any public disclosure, Fox News had abandoned any sense of of impartiality (as if they ever had any) by embedding itself with the Rittenhouse team days before the verdict. Even worse was that the reason Richards gave for granting Fox News that unprecedented access was to finance Rittenhouse’s defense. Richards made his remarks in the following exchange with CNN’s Chris Cuomo (video below):

Cuomo: Word that you guys had a film crew embedded with you from Fox News, from Tucker Carlson. I want to know why that decision was made.
Richards: I did not approve of that. I threw them out of the room several times…and I’m not suggesting that Fox or some other network…I don’t think a film crew is appropriate for something like this, but the people who were raising the money to pay for the experts and to pay for the attorneys were trying to raise money and that was part of it. So I think…I don’t want to say evil, but a definite distraction was part of it. And I didn’t approve of it, but I’m not always the boss.
Cuomo: Who were the people who were paying?
Richards: The people who were raising money. It was…this defense was crowd funded.
Cuomo: But who were the people making the calls about who got to have access to the process?
Richards: Kyle’s family and his adviser.

So while Tucker Carlson and the rest of the Fox News roster were lauding Rittenhouse as a paragon of White privileged, Second Amendment deliverance, they were also on the ground in Kenosha documenting their newfound protagonist and ratings magnet. And they were paying him for the privilege. Carlson began promoting his crocumentary within hours of the verdict, complete with Rittenhouse’s first post-acquittal reactions. “They’ve been there for days,” Carlson bragged, “putting together an installment of our Tucker Carlson Originals series on this case.” And he also announced that he would be airing the first Rittenhouse interview on Monday. How much do you suppose he paid for that? Carlson’s “Originals” was also responsible for his pro-insurrection propaganda piece, “Patriot Purge.” Or as CNN’s Jim Acosta called it, Proud Boy Porn.”

The revelations by Richards expose Fox News unethical participation in a propaganda campaign on behalf of an accused murderer while his trial was still in progress. And since the Rittenhouse family was getting paid by Fox, it’s fair to assume that there was agreement on how the case would be presented. What’s more, it raises additional questions about Judge Schroeder’s decision to ban MSNBC, a Fox News competitor, from the courtroom. How convenient was that?

The verdict in this case is going to result in people being “angry and concerned,” as President Biden said in his statement that also called for people “to express their views peacefully.” On the other hand we have Donald Trump telling Laura Ingraham on Fox News that…

“I don’t know Kyle. I watched him testify, which was very unusual that somebody would testify. I thought it was brave. I thought it was great that he testified.”

It’s cute that Trump thinks it is “brave” to testify, something that he refuses to do, or permit any of his accomplices to do. He won’t even allow the release of documents pertaining to his involvement in inciting the January 6th insurrection in Washington, D.C. The only thing we can conclude from that is that Trump is admitting that he’s a coward.

Trump Fluffs Kevin McCarthy for His Impotent Oratory Opposing Biden’s Build Back Better Bill

After many weeks of debate and negotiation, and hysterical harangues by Donald Trump, President Biden’s “Build Back Better” bill has finally passed in the House of Representatives. The vote took place later than expected because Republican minority leader, Kevin McCarthy, sought to delay the vote by rambling on tediously for eight and a half hours.

Donald Trump, Kevin McCarthy

McCarthy’s extended exercise in vapidity had no discernible legislative purpose. He wasn’t going to persuade any supporters of the bill to change their votes. He wasn’t going to wrestle some concession from Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The only reasons he tortured his colleagues with his interminable tirade were to kiss up to Donald Trump, advance his aspirations for speakership, and to force the vote into the wee hours so he could later claim it was passed surreptitiously.

So how did he do? He failed to force a midnight vote because Pelosi easily outsmarted him by simply rescheduling it for the next morning. He failed to secure his post as GOP leader because his long-winded lecture was littered with lies and often absurd trivialities. Which leaves his hopes of winning the appreciation of the Creature from the Mar-a-Lagoon. In that McCarthy succeeded. Trump posted a tweet (via his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill) applauding McCarthy’s late-night sermon:

“Great job by Kevin McCarthy last night, setting a record by going over 8 hours of speaking on the House Floor in order to properly oppose Communism. We must never forget what the Democrats have done, at the highest level of evil. If Mitch McConnell had fought, you would have a different Republican President right now.”

The first thing that needs to be established is that there is no way that Trump listened to more than a few minutes of McCarthy’s rant. Trump isn’t praising what McCarthy said, just that he took more than eight hours to say it. So it’s ironic that Trump is complimenting him for “properly oppos[ing] Communism.” There is nothing that McCarthy’s monologue resembled more closely than the endless elocution of Cuba’s communist commandant Fidel Castro or Russia’s overly talkative tyrant, Vladimir Putin.

Although it was generous of Trump to advise his cult disciples to “never forget what the Democrats have done.” What they’ve done is to pass a bill with dozens of programs that are broadly popular. They include initiatives to address childcare, climate change, health care, the economy, and more. And that’s on top of the previous infrastructure bill that was also a political winner.

Trump was also helpful in providing a reminder that the achievements attained by Democrats came at a time of “the highest level of evil.” Of course Trump didn’t mean to reference himself in that regard, but it was an obvious assumption. He further implicated his senatorial snake in the grass, Mitch McConnell, who he has been fuming about frequently as of late.

You really have to wonder whose side Trump is on these days. He has taken to maligning Republicans almost as much as Democrats. He is recruiting primary opponents for GOP incumbents in Congress and governorships. This unfriendly fire is creating hostility within the Republican Party. Some Republicans, such as Liz Cheney, are firing back with significant force.

Even more problematic for the GOP, the recruits that Trump is signing up are uncommonly unqualified for public service. They are inexperienced, hold extremist fringe positions, and have some unsavory histories. In fact, the only thing they have in common is their unflinching fealty to Trump. Which actually answers the question above about whose side Trump is on. Just as it has been for as long he’s he’s been in public life. Trump is always, and only, on Trump’s side.

Rittenhouse Judge Schroeder Bans MSNBC from Courtroom in Violation of the First Amendment

The trial of teen vigilante Kyle Rittenhouse has produced some bizarre and legally questionable moments. Many of those moments relate directly to the behavior of Judge Bruce Schroeder whose rulings have overwhelming favored the defense and been openly hostile to the prosecution.

Kyle Rittenhouse, Judge Bruce Schroeder

On Thursday this tendency of Schroeder to put his right-wing prejudices on display crossed another line of propriety for a jurist. Responding to a report that a reporter allegedly working for MSNBC News was following a bus that was transporting the jurors, Schroeder interrupted the proceedings to make this alarming declaration:

“I have instructed that no one from MSNBC news will be permitted in this building for the duration of this trial. This is a very serious matter and I don’t know what the ultimate truth of it is, but absolutely it would go without much thinking that someone who is following a jury bus, that is an extremely serious matter will be referred to the proper authorities for further action.”

This is indeed a “very serious matter,” but not for the reasons that Schroeder suggests. There are several problems with how the Judge reacted to this report. First of all, in his statement he admits that he “I don’t know what the ultimate truth of it is.” But he issues his prohibition against MSNBC News anyway. What if the truth is that the reporter was not from MSNBC? What if there was nothing untoward taking place? Then Schroeder punished the network despite it having done nothing to warrant it. That is the definition of government censorship and violates the First Amendment of the Constitution.

What’s more, Schroeder may have gotten the network wrong. Reports variously describe the reporter as having been associated with MSNBC or NBC, two different networks. So it’s pretty sloppy of the Judge to impose such severe penalties when he doesn’t even know who the suspected offender is affiliated with. In addition to that, it is ridiculous to ban MSNBC from the courtroom when reporters from NBC, who were not covered by the order, are still permitted to cover the trial. They can then appear on MSNBC to give their account of the proceedings.

Finally, Schroeder took the extreme measure of banning the entire MSNBC network, rather than just the alleged offender. At best he could have argued that the reporter who was involved should have his courtroom privileges suspended, not for the duration of the trial, but until the facts were ascertained. But Schroeder didn’t take that rational step. Instead he punished everyone at MSNBC, despite the fact that none of them had done anything wrong. It also needs to be remembered that the reporter in question wasn’t found to have done anything wrong either. NBC News released a statement saying that…

“Last night, a freelancer received a traffic citation. While the traffic violation took place near the jury van, the freelancer never contacted or intended to contact the jurors during deliberations, and never photographed or intended to photograph them”

Rittenhouse’s defense attorney has already filed a motion for a mistrial, which Schroeder has yet to rule on. But if anyone is entitled to a mistrial, it’s the prosecution. And Schroeder should be cited for judicial misconduct. He has shown bias throughout this trial. And his disrespect for the Constitution’s guarantee of freedom of the press makes his malfeasance on the bench all the more reprehensible.
