Fox News Attempts (and Hysterically Fails) to Contrive a Fake Biden Scandal

Ever since the presidential election last November, Fox News has been at its wits end (admittedly not a long walk) trying to tarnish Joe Biden. They have attacked his marriage, slandered his dogs, accused him of plotting to “take down America,” and crowned him as the King of “Cancel Culture” (a role that more accurately describes Donald Trump). In the meantime, the GOP has hitched it’s wobbly wagon to America’s Biggest Loser.

Joe Biden, Donald Trump Baby, Fake News

However, despite the evidence of the untimely demise of Dr. Seuss and Mr. Potato Head (they have their priorities), Fox News has been utterly incapable of concocting any tales of impropriety that can stick to the wily Biden. Their impotent schemes just keep serving up more humiliation for Fox than for their would-be target. And an outstanding example of Fox’s failure to launch came Saturday evening in the form of a tweet by Trump’s former Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications, Dan Scavino:

Oh My! The necessity for immediate ethics investigations is rarely advocated by anyone associated with Trump. And for good reason. Trump presided over an administration that was an ethics black hole. But Scavino’s outrage was so intense that he had speak up. His tweet linked to a Fox News article that revealed the sordid circumstances surrounding a Biden website mishap:

“The White House said Thursday that a link to a page on the Biden campaign website in the WhiteHouse.gov fact sheet for the president’s $2 trillion-plus spending plan was put there in error. The link was included on the words ‘more likely’ deep in the body of the 25-page document. The line where it was included said, ‘People of color and low-income people are more likely to live in areas most vulnerable to flooding and other climate change-related weather events.’ The link was eventually taken down.”

Good Lord! The horror of this malfeasance truly needs to be explored in more detail. Fox News reported that a Republican congresswoman, Victoria Spartz, uncovered the travesty. She posted her own tweet excoriating the Biden White House and announcing her letter of disapproval dispatched to the Office of the Special Counsel:

You’ll notice that Biden’s White House Director of Digital Strategy, Rob Flaherty, responded promptly with an acknowledgement of the error and its correction. That’s something that the Trump White House never would have considered, no matter how depraved the offense.

This whole affair, however, requires a closer look. The video provided by Spartz shows that the errant link to a Biden campaign donation page was buried deeply on the White House website’s page that detailed his American Jobs Plan.” It would take a committed reader to peruse the page all the way down to the naughty link (which has, indeed, been removed).

But that’s not the end of this tawdry tale. Had anyone clicked on the link that Scavino and Spartz were so offended by, they would have been taken to a page on the old Biden campaign website that had information about his climate agenda. While that was not a donation page itself, it did have links to a page where donations could have been made. There was just one one problem. When arriving at that page there was a message that said…

“You have attempted to make a contribution to a fundraising page that has no active recipients: either the page’s owner has removed all committees or organizations from the page, or we have concluded processing contributions for these committees or organizations.”

So to recap, 1) Scavino was appalled by a Fox News story about… 2) …an irate GOP representative who… 3) …complained about an allegedly improper link that… 4) …lead to nowhere. Somebody call the Dead Link Police! Why isn’t the FBI all over this criminal conspiracy?

As an addendum to this melodrama, the Fox News article that started it all also segued into an attack on Biden’s jobs/infrastructure initiative. They wrote that…

“Biden’s spending plan, formally titled the American Jobs Plan, is being sold as an infrastructure proposal and has broad support from most Democrats in Congress, though there are some that appear reluctant to back it as one massive bill. Republicans uniformly oppose the plan and say most of it is not actually spending on infrastructure but instead designed to bolster assorted liberal priorities.”

For the record, the Biden plan (like his COVID relief/stimulus plan before it) is broadly popular among the American people, including Republicans, despite being “uniformly opposed” by the knee-jerk obstructionist GOP members of Congress.

FFS: Trump-Fluffing Video ‘Brags’ that He Doesn’t Take No for an Answer

The cretinous sycophants that surround Donald Trump have never been mistaken for Mensa members. They are a uniformly dimwitted Confederacy of Dunces, with an emphasis on “Confederate.” Their loyalty to an egomaniacal, pathological liar is the hallmark of the Trump era. And their cultish devotion to Dear Leader supersedes whatever passes for reason in their cartoon brains.

Donald Trump

One thing that can be said for the flock of Trump-fluffers is that have a profound capacity for persistence in the face of humiliation. No matter how embarrassing his behavior – or their own – they stand up to the ridicule with a seemingly endless supply of shamelessness. Which is convenient considering how often and how massively they lean toward the asinine.

For example, on Thursday Dan Scavino, Trump’s former White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications (a fancy title for a tweet wrangler), posted a video on Twitter intended to sing the praises of his beloved ex-boss (video below). It’s a pathetic paean to an imaginary superhero and the object of a bizarre infatuation. Unfortunately, the intended adoration got swept aside due the availability of an interpretation that was far more accurate than the one Scavino had in mind.

The video began with the words “There’s a certain kind of person who doesn’t take no for an answer.” And that’s right where most people would stop. That’s because there’s a perverse truth in those words that surely wasn’t what Scavino meant, but was impossible to dismiss once having heard it.

Indeed Trump does not take no for answer. Just ask any of the women who have accused him of sexual harassment and assault. Trump himself admitted that he doesn’t quit his unwanted advances in the infamous Access Hollywood recording where he proudly boasted about grabbing woman by their private parts.

But that’s not all. Trump also refused to take no for an answer when he clearly lost the presidential election. He insisted that victory was “stolen” from him. His Big Lie eventually resulted in the deadly Capitol riots on January 6th.

Trump also refused to take no for an answer when told that Mexico wouldn’t pay for his border wall, or when he insisted on keeping his tax returns secret, or when he wanted to lock up Hillary Clinton, or when he tried to repeal Obamacare, or when he sought to avoid being impeached – twice.

Trump’s tendency to refuse negative answers is not the character asset Scavino thinks it is. To the contrary, it is a flaw that marks Trump as an intractable narcissist whose psychoses make him an imminent danger if in any position of power. America, and the world, is better off for his having been ousted from the White House. And like or it not, Trump is going to be hearing the word “no” with much greater frequency going forward as his political and legal fortunes spiral ever downward.

FYI: Scavino deleted his tweet. Ya think he got shamed into it? I found this on YouTube.

Trump Picks His Former Caddy to Replace Hope Hicks as White House Communications Director

Donald Trump’s lack of any political experience or intelligence has manifested itself in a multitude of ways. Most troubling are those wherein he implements policies that are overtly idiotic and harmful. But he also demonstrates his inability to govern by his appointments to critical White House and cabinet positions. These include his daughter Ivanka, her husband Jared, Ben Carson, Rick Perry, Scott Pruitt, etc.

Dan Scavino

Now CNN is reporting that Trump has found a replacement for his departing White House Communications Director Hope Hicks. And he has managed to select another person who completely lacks the requisite skills and experience to do the job. According to CNN Trump has answered the question of Hicks’ successor:

“The answer, at least in some capacity, will be Dan Scavino, the social media director who this week moved into the minuscule office a pace or two from Trump’s desk that Hicks spent the last week packing up. Described by aides as Trump’s “mini me,” who can channel his moods and voice as few others can, Scavino is the last remaining staffer from the launch of Trump’s presidential campaign still posted by the President’s side.”

Scavino is presently Trump’s Director of Social Media, a post where he was responsible for the President’s Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts. In other words, his most trusted and important confidant. But he doesn’t have any experience with managing the press or developing the strategic media operations of a large enterprise.

This promotion may cheer Scavino up after the announcement yesterday that his wife has filed for divorce. But his personal problems will not likely be separated from his official duties. As Director of Social Media, Scavino was the identified as the person responsible for an anti-Semitic tweet that put Hillary Clinton inside a Jewish Star of David and called her corrupt. On another occasion he was reprimanded for violating the Hatch Act, which prohibits electioneering by White House staffers.

But Scavino isn’t even very good at the job he has now. Being in charge of Trump’s Twitter account he shouldn’t be posting tweets that are flagrantly false (or considering who he works for, maybe he should). Such as the time he posted a video that he said was of the Miami International Airport during Hurricane Irma (it wasn’t). Or the posting that was supposed to be of a collapsing building in the Caribbean (it was in Tibet). Former Fox News host Megyn Kelly cited Scavino as a reason she received death threats during the campaign. And even though Scavino often advances conspiracy theories from sites like Alex Jones’ InfoWorld, he is still the person most retweeted by the President.

This is just the latest incompetent to get a big promotion from Trump. Earlier this week the President nominated his personal White House physician, Ronny Jackson, to be the Secretary of the Veterans Administration. Putting people like Jackson and Scavino in charge of agencies like the VA or the White House communications Office is like making a PC tech the CEO of IBM. Even a good PC tech cannot possibly do that job. But that’s what we’ve come to in the Era of Trump. He doesn’t actually know anyone with the requisite credentials to conduct the complex work of government. So he installs his friends and family from whom he can expect blind loyalty. And the nation is going to suffer as a result.
