Eric Trump Wonders Why Lying Cost Fox News Millions, but Truth-Telling Cost Other Media Nothing

Some members of the family of Donald Trump have been a major part of his public life. He has included them in his businesses, his television programs, and even his brief but agonizing occupation of the White House. He has relied on their support to avoid forming relationships with other more qualified people that he couldn’t trust or understand.

Perhaps the least recognized of his spawn (excepting Tiffany) is his son Eric Trump, who frequently reaches out pitifully for unrequited affection. However, on Saturday morning Daddy honored ‘lil Eric with a reposting of a comment on his floundering Twitter scam, Truth Social. The subject of Eric’s post was triggered by his dismay that Fox News had to agree to a nearly billion dollar settlement as a result of their flagrant and malicious lies about Dominion Voting Systems.

What troubled and confused Eric was that Fox News was held to account for deliberately lying, while other media paid no price at all for telling the truth. Eric wrote (and Papa reposted) that…

“Fox News was forced pay $787 Million to settle a lawsuit over ‘disinformation,’ yet there is zero apology or monetary penalty to the @NewYorkTimes, @WashingtonPost, @CNN, @MSNBC or others for the fake Trump-Russia hoax which maliciously slandered @realDonaldTrump (and his family) for over three years. The double standards of justice are glaring.”

Eric seems to believe that the media outlets he mentioned have done something similar to what Fox News did. Although, like his father, he doesn’t bother to provide any evidence for his wild accusations. His outrage stems from the recent report produced by “special” counsel John Durham that failed to uncover any shred of wrongdoing with regard to federal investigations of Donald Trump’s well documented unsavory associations with Russians trying to interfere with the U.S. election.

Eric doesn’t appear to grasp that Fox News had to pay up because Dominion sued them and proved their case with actual evidence of malice on the part of Fox’s executives and hosts. No such evidence was produced by Trump or Durham that would warrant any monetary penalty. In fact, Durham concludes his own report saying that he “does not recommend any wholesale changes in the guidelines and policies that the Department and the FBI now have in place” In other words, he found nothing illegal or even improper.

If Eric really wants to punish the press the way Fox News was punished, perhaps he should have his father sue them like Dominion did.

Oh wait. Donald Trump actually has sued, or threatened to sue, media companies for defaming him and his “Big Lie” that the 2020 election was “rigged and stolen” from him. However, none of those lawsuits have produced any evidence to support Trump’s claims. Many of them have been dismissed as unfounded and frivolous.

That’s why there haven’t been any of the apologies or monetary penalties that Eric hankers for. And it’s why the double standard that he alleges is a figment of his imagination. But don’t expect these realities to dissuade him and his father from continuing to gaslight their cult followers. It’s all they have done for decades and they aren’t about to change now.

Trump (and Fox News) FREAK OUT After Durham Report Turns Out to Be Another GOP Nothingburger

Prior to losing his job as Attorney General due to Donald Trump losing his reelection bid to President Biden, Bill Barr appointed a fellow right-wing shill, John Durham, to conduct a contrived investigation of the investigators who proved that Trump had numerous unsavory associations with Russians trying to interfere with the U.S. election. Unlike Durham’s fakery, Trump’s Russian connections are actually very well documented.

Now, after four years, and millions of wasted taxpayer dollars, Durham has finally issued his conclusions in a 300 page report that is little more than the sort of ultra-conservative opinions posted by the partisan Republican press. It is more clear than ever that Durham’s mission was to manufacture fake scandals in order to discredit the legitimate investigations into Trump’s myriad criminal activities.

In the hours since the Durham report was released, Trump has been desperately trying to shape a wholly false narrative that Durham actually exonerated him. Trump was up until after 2:00am frantically posting 27 hysterical comments on his floundering Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, claiming vindication. Then he was up at 6:00am to post 24 more.

That’s 51 posts, mostly of links to congressional and media Trump-fluffers. Among them were five videos from Fox News (which he said “sucks” earlier the same day), alleging totally unsupported assertions that the Justice Department and the FBI engaged in “domestic terrorism” and “election fraud,” and should be defunded. So much for the GOP backing law enforcement.

Among Trump’s frenzied outbursts in response to the Durham Nothingburger were these classic commentaries that are emblematic of his derangement…

“WOW! After extensive research, Special Counsel John Durham concludes the FBI never should have launched the Trump-Russia Probe! In other words, the American Public was scammed, just as it is being scammed right now by those who don’t want to see GREATNESS for AMERICA! “

“The Durham Report spells out in great detail the Democrat Hoax that was perpetrated upon me and the American people. This is 2020 Presidential Election Fraud, just like ‘stuffing’ the ballot boxes, only more so. This totally illegal act had a huge impact on the Election. With an honest Media, we are looking at the Crime of the Century!”

“JACK SMITH AND THE SPECIAL PERSECUTORS OFFICE ARE PLAYING THE SAME GAMES WITH ELECTION INTERFERENCE AND FAKE PROSECUTIONS AS JAMES COMEY, ONLY FAR MORE OBVIOUS. THE DOJ MUST END THIS CHARADE RIGHT NOW, AND THAT GOES TO THEIR USE OF D.A.’s & A.G’s IN ATLANTA & NEW YORK. MAGA!!!”

“THEY ARE SCUM, LIKE COCKROACHES ALL OVER WASHINGTON, D.C. Congratulations to John Durham on a Report that is being praised for its quality, importance, and professionalism, by friend and foe alike!”

Trump’s feeble attempt to connect the Durham report to the special counsel probe by Jack Smith, and the ongoing investigations of his criminal activities by prosecutors in Atlanta and New York, is particularly comical. Those investigations – that are examining Trump’s financial fraud, his election interference, the January 6th insurrection, and his theft and hoarding of classified documents – are getting closer to producing indictments than Durham ever dreamed. And they are driving him crazy(er).

FOR THE RECORD: Donald Trump and his Republican Party cult claimed for years that Durham would expose the “Crime of the Century” and finally prove that the investigations of Trump were a “hoax.” They insisted that Durham would secure convictions of everyone from Hillary Clinton, to Barack Obama, to James Comey, and the rest of the evil Democratic cabal that they imagined were conspiring against Dear Leader Trump.

The crux of the conclusions by Durham state simply that “the [Justice] Department and the FBI failed to uphold their mission of strict fidelity to the law.” But Durham also noted that his own report, “does not recommend any wholesale changes in the guidelines and policies that the Department and the FBI now have in place to ensure proper conduct and accountability in how counterintelligence activities are carried out.” So what exactly was the point?

The only two cases that Durham brought to trial were low-level politicos, and resulted in acquittals for both. Contrast that with the probe by special counsel Robert Mueller that took only 22 months and resulted in 34 indictments and eight convictions, including some MAGA big shots like Paul Manafort, Roger Stone, Michael Flynn, Rick Gates, and Michael Cohen, along with numerous Russian confederates.

What’s more, in 2019, the Senate Intelligence Committee, which at the time had a Republican chairman, produced a bipartisan report that came to very different conclusion than Durham, saying that…

“The Trump campaign’s interactions with Russian intelligence services during the 2016 presidential election posed a “grave” counterintelligence threat […] it detailed how associates of Donald Trump had regular contact with Russians and expected to benefit from the Kremlin’s help.”

Of course, nothing in Trump’s tantrums bear any resemblance to reality. Durham couldn’t even support his own conclusions with facts that would warrant indictments or corrective actions. No one but Trump’s sycophantic cultists praise the report for its quality. But that won’t stop Trump, Fox News, and other propaganda peddlers from pushing their factless views and outright lies.

Crybaby Trump Whines that ‘the FBI Must Apologize for All of its Illegal and Sinister Actions’

The Republican Party and its once and future wannabe king, Donald Trump, likes to pretend that they are the “law and order” party, and dedicated to the pursuit of justice and those who enforce it. The Legal Hall Shame members from Trump World include Trump himself, plus his political and business crime partners such as Steve Bannon, Paul Manafort, Rudy Giuliani, Michael Flynn, Roger Stone, Allen Weisselberg, and Michael Cohen, just for starters.

Investigations that are ongoing into Trump’s shady practices include probes into Mar-a-Lago classified documents, the January 6th insurrection, the Georgia election interference, and the New York Attorney General’s lawsuit against the Trump Organization. In all, “Trump has been credibly accused of committing at least 48 criminal offenses while he was serving as President of the United States or campaigning for that office.”

On the weakness of that record, Trump is now demanding that the FBI apologize for imaginary offenses related to their search of his Mar-a-Lago bunker. That search yielded hundreds of highly sensitive national security documents that Trump unlawfully took from the white House and stored at his Palm Beach resort hotel/home. Despite the overwhelming evidence that Trump’s possession of those materials was illegal and dangerous, and that he flagrantly lied about having them, he continues to complain that he is being persecuted. On his floundering social media scam, Truth social, Trump dropped a post sobbing that…

“The FBI must apologize for all of its illegal and sinister actions – and it continues with the Mar-a-Lago Raid and Box Hoax!”

As usual, Trump can’t identify a single illegal or sinister action that hasn’t already been debunked. Nevertheless, he characterizes his being held legally accountable as – what else – a “hoax.” And what makes this tantrum all the worse is that it includes a link to an article by the Epoch Times, an ultra-rightist source that is run by the China-based Falun Gong cult. Not surprisingly, the Epoch Times regularly promotes the crackpot conspiracy theories of QAnon.

The article Trump links to is about the recently failed investigation by John Durham, the special counsel Trump had his Attorney Genuflect Bill Barr install to spread disinformation about Trump’s embrace of Russia’s election interference in 2016. Durham’s probe recently resulted in its second acquittal, and despite spending three years and millions of dollars, was unable to contrive any unlawful conduct by President Biden, Hillary Clinton, President Obama, or any of its other innocent targets.

The article, like Trump and his minions, adopted the bizarre right-wing media narrative that Durham’s failure was actually a success. It alleged that the investigation “uncovered the full story of the Russian collusion hoax” (it didn’t), and that “Many people should be going to jail for this, including Obama” (they shouldn’t). And it comically concluded that these Democratic ne’er do wells “got away with it from a legal standpoint. But the truth will never set them free.”

WHUT? The truth is generally considered to be the pathway to freedom. But to these goofballs it doesn’t matter if what you say is true. They are flipping the rules to assert that only lies will set you free. Which is understandable from their perspective since they tell so many of them. It’s really all they’ve got.

HUH? Fox News and Trump AG Bill Barr Defend Durham Debacles as Successfully Exposing Russiagate

After more than three years and tens of millions of dollars, special counsel John Durham has finally flamed out, suffering another humiliating loss in court with the acquittal of Igor Danchenko. The investigation was from its outset a contrived political ploy aimed at absolving Donald Trump of his conspicuous guilt for colluding with Russia during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Donald Trump and his Republican Party cult claimed for two years that Durham would finally prove that the investigations of Trump and his unsavory associations with Russia were a “hoax.” They insisted that Durham would secure convictions of everyone from Hillary Clinton to James Comey to Robert Mueller, and more.

Now that Durham has failed to secure a single conviction in court, Trump and his panderers for Putin are attempting to spin the Durham probe as a Bizarro World success. They claim that Durham never really wanted to convict anyone, and that his real goal was to tarnish the reputation of the FBI and the courts as corrupt, “Deep State,” anti-Trump provocateurs. Trump’s former Attorney Genuflect, Bill Barr went on Fox News to declare victory saying that, although he was “disappointed” …

“The real public interest here was served by exposing the full extent of the corruption that was involved in the ‘Russiagate, and the abuse by the FBI in that whole episode.”

That’s a peculiar perspective that contrasts entirely with reality. By acquitting Danchenko the jury was explicitly rejecting Durham’s arguments that the FBI engaged in any corruption or abuse. However, Barr was not alone in his delusional assessment. Trump weighed with a posting on his floundering social media scam, Truth Social. He whined that it was…

“A very sad result for our Justice System, but so much has been exposed—far more than anyone thought possible.”

Trump’s post linked to an article on the Fox News website by notorious Trump-fluffing legal hack, Gregg Jarrett, who made the same bogus argument that Barr made. He said that the trial “was never really about Danchenko at all. [and that it was actually] a damning indictment of the FBI’s gross misconduct.” But neither Trump nor Jarrett provided a scintilla of support for their preposterous claims.

Joining these legal deceivers was another former Trump attorney, Joseph DiGenova. He told Newsmax that Durham had “decided he was going to embarrass the FBI,” and that “He wanted to dirty up the FBI.” If that’s true, than Durham should have his license to practice law revoked. That is a wholly unethical exploitation of the court. And Durham, who in his role as an attorney and special counsel is an officer of the court, is oath-bound to comply with legal protocol.

These arguments defending Durham’s failures seem to be uncannily similar. It’s almost as if they were coordinated. And there are more where they come from. Sen. Marsha Blackburn said that “the latest loss by Durham shows that the justice system is biased against MAGA and Hillary was behind the whole thing.” And Margot Cleveland, Senior Legal Correspondent for the Federalist wrote that “Russia Hoaxers, not Durham, Should be Embarrassed.”

But piling on synchronized narratives doesn’t mean that they make any more sense. A more rational assessment was made by constitutional law professor Lawrence Tribe of Harvard, who observed that Durham is just the latest casualty of associating with Trump:

Obviously Addled Trump Utterly Misconstrues Report that the FBI Paid a Russian Informant

September has been a bad month, so far, for the twice-impeached, former reality TV game show host, Donald Trump. The fallout from his having stolen, hoarded, and lied about having highly sensitive national security materials stashed at his Mar-a-Lago bunker continues to pose significant legal peril for him and his anti-American crime syndicate.

In addition to being the subject of criminal and civil investigations from New York, to Georgia, to Washington, D.C., to the federal Department of Justice, his pitiful Twitter ripoff, Truth Social is floundering. His lawsuit against Hillary Clinton was laughed out of court. His buddy and co-conspirator Mike Lindell had his phone confiscated at a Hardee’s. And even Fox News has been shying away from their role as knee-jerk Trump defenders.

Consequently, Trump is sinking ever further into an abyss of incoherence and desperation. On Thursday Trump posted comments on his alt-Twitter that parroted some recent contrivances in the ultra-rightist press. These stories are badly distorted versions of the news that special counsel John Durham’s investigation is wrapping up with almost nothing to show. It took 29 months and $40 million dollars to produce goose eggs, rather than the mother lode of incriminating evidence they hoped for against Hillary Clinton or whoever they are obsessing over. As reported by CNN…

“In all, Durham has prosecuted just three people: [Igor] Danchenko, the acquitted Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann, and a low-level FBI lawyer named Kevin Clinesmith, who avoided jail by pleading guilty in 2020 to doctoring an email in 2017.”

For the record, the Mueller probe took only 22 months and resulted in 34 indictments and eight convictions of close associates of Trump including Paul Manafort, Rick Gates, Michael Flynn, and Roger Stone.

Trump’s comments took a decidedly deranged turn by latching unto the only case still pending from Durham’s inquisition. Trump wrote that…

“FBI working with Russia to get Trump. If this were reversed, it would be the biggest story in 50 years. The Fake News Media does everything possible not to cover it – but the people know!”

And that…

“The biggest story of them all. They worked with the Russians, not “Trump.” It was all made up by the FBI and their SleazeBag friends. Then we’re supposed to trust them?”

So Trump is now whining that the “FBI [was] working with Russia to get Trump.” And he wonders what would happen “if this were reversed.” But Trump apparently doesn’t know what “reversed” means. If this were reversed it would be “Trump is working with Russia to get the FBI.” Which, ironically, is true. Everything Trump is doing and saying is anti-FBI, who he has called “disgraceful,” “dishonest,” and “completely corrupt.” That’s an assessment that Russia not only agrees with, but has worked tirelessly to promulgate.

The allegation by Trump and his lickspittle media mouthpieces is that a source for the infamous “Steele Dossier” was briefly paid by the FBI as an informant. From that morsel of unsupported info, the Trump faction concludes that the FBI was working “with” Russia to take down Trump.

What they fail to grasp is that the FBI often pays informants for information about crime suspects. That doesn’t mean they are working with the crime bosses. In fact, it means just the opposite. They are working with people who turned against the bosses. If the FBI pays a mob informant they are working against the mob, not with it.

The informant in this case is an example of that. Danchenko was not a Russian ally. He was a dissident who left Russia to live in the U.S., and he was ratting out his former associates in the Kremlin. By disparaging Danchenko it’s Trump who is, in effect, working with Russia. Again. So…same as it ever was.

LOL: Fox News Complains that Liberal Media Accurately Reports the News – Liberal Media Replies

If there is one thing that Fox News really hates, it’s actual journalists who dare to report the news accurately. That’s conceptionally foreign to Fox News. An honest presentation of facts about current events exposes how Fox lies so doggedly in pursuit of their ultra-rightist mission.

A good example of Fox’s mangling of reality is how they reported the acquittal of Michael Sussmann, a former Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer who was prosecuted – make that persecuted – by special counsel and Bill Barr flunky, John Durham. The not guilty verdict was a major black eye for Durham and his efforts to discredit the legitimate investigations into Donald Trump’s myriad criminal activities and unsavory connections to Russia. After wasting three years and millions of dollars, Durham’s fake scandal factory has succeeded only in humiliating itself.

On Thursday Fox News reacted to the acquittal by compiling a montage of video clips from what they call the “liberal” media, but which in their view is actually all media except for Fox News. They headlined their montage “MSNBC, CNN, ABC and more pan ‘asinine’ Durham probe after Sussmann verdict: ‘A flop’” Which is uncharacteristically accurate.

However, Fox’s intention was to malign the media as being aligned against Durham, and therefore conservatives, simply because there was rational agreement in the reporting of the trial’s outcome. Their story began by saying that “Left-leaning media personalities, reporters and guests of MSNBC, CNN, CBS, ABC and The Washington Post gloated” following the verdict. Ironically, the montage only served to publicize the intelligent analyses of the allegedly liberal press:

Nice work, Fox. Although Fox didn’t bother to rebut a single comment by any of the pundits and legal experts in the video. Perhaps that’s because there is no rebuttal to essentially factual commentaries. The only thing that Fox can do is try to create a false narrative by lying to their audience, and even turning failure into victory. Which is precisely what they did.

For contrast, Media Matters compiled a montage of their own. It contained some of the wholly counterfactual outrage that was unleashed by a variety of Fox News hacks. They struggled to find reasons to dismiss the verdict and to disparage the judge, the jury, and the entirety of the justice system. Because tearing down American institutions is what Fox News was designed to do:

Bill Barr Tells Fox News that Durham’s Failure to Railroad Clinton Lawyer Was a Victory

Fox News is well known as a brazenly partisan and dishonest purveyor of propaganda that exists only to serve the political interests of the Republican Party and that panders to Donald Trump and his cult disciples. It was never intended to be a legitimate “news” enterprise, and in that respect it has lived up to its mission.

Among the skills that Fox News has honed over the years is one that facilitates turning bad news into some ludicrous reimagining of reality that better fits their preordained narratives. And on Wednesday there was a textbook example of their mastery of that method of mangling the news during an episode of Jesse Watters’ program. Watters invited Trump’s former Attorney Genuflect, Bill Barr, on for a segment of misinformation regarding the acquittal of Michael Sussmann, a Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer who was hounded by Barr’s special counsel, John Durham.

Durham’s mandate was to invent legal distractions in an effort to vindicate Trump by fabricating phony charges of misconduct related to his unsavory connections to Russia. Durham never had a shred of evidence to justify his probe, which the jury recognized and quickly found Sussmann not guilty.

The typically softball interview of Barr allowed him paint a preposterous picture of the outcome of the trial. In the retelling of the story by Watters and Barr, Durham was actually victorious:

Watters: Do you feel in any way responsible for how this Durham situation is unfolding, and are you disappointed in John Durham?
Barr: No, I’m very proud of John Durham and I do take responsibility for his appointment. And I think he and his team did an exceptionally able job both seeking out very important facts and presenting a compelling case to the jury. And while he did not succeed in getting a conviction from the D.C. jury, I think he accomplished something far more important. Which is he brought out the truth in two important areas.

First, I think he crystalized the central role played by the Hillary campaign in launching as a dirty trick the whole Russia-gate collusion narrative, and fanning the flames of it. And second, I think he exposed really dreadful behavior by supervisors in the senior ranks of the FBI who knowingly used this information to start an investigation of Trump, and then duped their own agents by lying to them, and refusing to tell them what the real source of that information was.

It’s nice that Barr takes responsibility for the debacle that he so terribly mismanaged. However, his assessment of the results is purely delusional. If losing the most important case that the special counsel has brought to trial is representative of “an exceptionally able job,” you really have to wonder what Barr’s notion of failure is.

What Barr is arguing is that it isn’t important that his prosecutor’s case was entirely dismissed by the jury. What’s important in Barr’s view is that, in the process, a bunch of lies were propagated that he believes will have a negative effect on Clinton specifically, and Democrats generally. He’s outright admitting that the entire Durham probe was just a scam to harm his political foes.

However, what Barr identified as accomplishments that are greater than conviction were figments of his imagination. Durham utterly failed to “crystalize” Clinton’s role in launching dirty tricks. At best he revealed something that everyone already knows: that political campaigns – all of them – engage in opposition research. And there is no way that Clinton’s reputation was hurt by this show trial, because the right-wingers who paid any attention to it already regard Clinton as Satan in a pant suit.

Finally, Durham failed in his prime directive to deflect from Trump’s myriad criminal activities. If anything, he reminded people that Trump is still the subject of numerous investigations that are likely to lead to indictments. And he triggered an outraged Trump, who felt compelled to vent on his failing social media website, TRUTH Social.

In the end, the only thing that Barr and Fox News accomplished was to affirm that their motives are entirely partisan and have nothing to do with the law. It’s a deception that may tittilate Fox News viewers, but will have zero impact on the population at large. Just as Barr’s and Durham’s fictions had zero impact on the Sussmann jury.

Crybaby Trump FREAKS OUT Over the Durham Nothingburger Resulting in Acquittal of Clinton Lawyer

Special Clown-sel John Durham was appointed by Trump flunky, Attorney General Bill Barr, to manufacture fake scandals in order to discredit the legitimate investigations into Trump’s myriad criminal activities. Durham never had a shred of evidence that would justify his probe, but that didn’t stop him from spending three years and millions of dollars in the effort to make up melodramatic fictions about alleged spying by Clinton and the Obama White House.

Now the case that has excited the Trumpian right for months has ended with an acquittal. Durham had indicted Michael Sussmann, an attorney who worked for Hillary Clinton’s campaign, for allegedly lying to the FBI. The case had little to do with the alleged spying that had set the Trump Cult’s hearts aflutter. But even this overreach on Durham’s part concluded with a verdict that unequivocally found Sussmann innocent. You know that wasn’t gonna sit well with Trump.

So naturally Trump busted his substantial gut whining that “our Country is going to HELL.” Which is something he says so frequently that it’s become passé. Trump’s perpetual victimhood and whining is the central feature of his psychosis. After all, he even admitted that he is “the most fabulous whiner.” And his reaction to Sussmann’s acquittal, that he posted on his failing social media site, TRUTH social, said that…

“Our Legal System is CORRUPT, our Judges (and Justices!) are highly partisan, compromised or just plain scared, our Borders are OPEN, our Elections are Rigged, Inflation is RAMPANT, gas prices and food costs are ‘through the roof,’ our Military ‘Leadership’ is Woke, our Country is going to HELL, and Michael Sussmann is not guilty. How’s everything else doing? Enjoy your day!!!

WOW! Trump is bashing a legal system for which he appointed 234 judges, plus three Supreme Court Justices. But somehow they are all “compromised” and “partisan.” He is also maligning the citizen jurors who were approved by Durham and his prosecutors, and who unanimously found Sussmann not guilty.

Of course, Trump’s tirade also contained the hit parade of his psychotic obsessions: open borders, rigged elections, and whatever else he’s currently fixated on in his hysterical aversion to whatever the heck “woke” means. He disgorges these grievances like projectile vomiting of undigested conspiracy theories. And he will continue to spew for as long as his glassy-eyed disciples devour what he pukes. Hopefully that won’t be too much longer. But already it’s clear that some of Trump’s toadies are unwilling to let this go…

Hillary Clinton and all of her scumbag associates should be rotting in jail and this should have happened years ago.

Media Freaks Out Over Fake News that Hillary Clinton Approved Trump/Russia Campaign Stories

Nothing thrills the press like the stench of a budding scandal involving a prominent public figure. And for thirty years Hillary Clinton has been at the top of the media’s hit list, despite never having confirmed a single episode of wrongdoing. And after being out of government service for six years, she remains a prime target of the press.

The latest hysterical outrage was triggered by reports of testimony by former Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook in a case brought to trial by John Durham, the special counsel appointed by Donald Trump’s Attorney General Bill Barr. Durham’s mandate was to vindicate Trump by fabricating phony charges of misconduct related to his unsavory connections to Russia and Vladimir Putin.

The news reports covering Mook’s testimony were mostly wild distortions of the actual facts. Even CNN played into it with a story headlined “Hillary Clinton personally approved plan to share Trump-Russia allegation with the press in 2016, campaign manager says.” However, that is not what Mook’s testimony said at all. After repeating the falsehood in the headline, a more accurate description was given in the article’s opening paragraphs:

“Robby Mook said he attended a meeting with other senior campaign officials where they learned about strange cyberactivity that suggested a relationship between the Trump Organization and Alfa Bank, which is based in Moscow. The group decided to share the information with a reporter, and Mook subsequently ran that decision by Clinton herself. ‘We discussed it with Hillary,’ Mook said, later adding that ‘she agreed with the decision.'”

So what Mook actually said was that the decision was already made and acted upon, and was brought to Clinton after the fact, where she agreed with what had already been done. The stories that say that she “approved the plan” suggest that she was informed in advance and gave it a greenlight. In reality, Clinton merely expressed her agreement, perhaps after her staff had already executed the plan.

What’s worse is that many stories are circulating through the conservative media asserting that Clinton not only gave the plan a go-ahead, but that she contrived it herself and “knew” that it was false. That could not be farther from the truth. The unexplained cyberactivity connecting Trump to the Russian bank was first observed by independent tech investigators. Reports of those observations were later brought to the attention of the Clinton campaign who had every reason to regard them as credible. Mook testified that the campaign passed the information on to the press with the intention that they would investigate and either confirm or refute it.

All of these deliberate distortions of both the cyberactivity, and the Clinton campaign’s role in publicizing it, are part of the right-wing Durham crusade to distract the public from the documented connections between Trump and Russia. They add to prior distortions by Durham and company that Trump used to falsely claim that his campaign had been spied on.

For the record, there were numerous documented contacts between the Trump camp and Russian operatives during and after the 2016 presidential election. And Trump himself publicly asked Russia to interfere in the election by hacking into Clinton’s emails. Many of these activities were catalogued in the book Russian Roulette: The Inside Story of Putin’s War on America and the Election of Donald Trump, by Michael Isikoff and David Corn.

Trump’s doting affinity for Putin is well known. He has spent the past six years fawning over Putin and advancing the interests of Russia. And that extends to the present as Trump takes Putin’s side in the War in Ukraine. Meanwhile, the press is unfairly hammering Clinton who got Trump’s unpatriotic behaviors right all along.

Trump’s Loopy Lawsuit Against Hillary Clinton and ‘Her Cohorts’ Reads Like Sleazy Pulp Fiction

What could be more predictable than Donald Trump attempting to divert attention away from whatever new self-created calamity is causing him grief? Just as news has broken about his legal tribulations, and the investigation into his role in the January 6th insurrection gets closer to issuing criminal referrals, Trump announces another of his spectacularly asinine media stunts.

On Thursday Trump’s legal team revealed that they have filed a lawsuit against Hillary Clinton, and nearly fifty other people who the suit describes as “her cohorts,” in a conspiracy aimed at “destroying his life.” The list of defendants is itself a comedic exercise in extremist overreaching and includes Clinton, along with numerous Democratic operatives and FBI officials. It’s 108 pages of pure paranoid bullpucky that any reputable lawyer – or fiction author – would be embarrassed to be associated with.

The filing contained the obligatory inanities and misspellings that are commonly littered throughout any Trump legal document. But most prominent in this chronicle of conspiracy crackpottery are the innumerable lies and disinformation. It began with a flourish of fallacious fabrications soaked in utterly implausible melodrama:

In the run-up to the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton and her cohorts orchestrated an unthinkable plot – one that shocks the conscience and is an affront to this nation’s democracy. Acting in concert, the Defendants maliciously conspired to weave a false narrative that their Republican opponent, Donald J Trump, was colluding with a hostile foreign sovereignty. The actions taken in furtherance of their scheme—falsifying evidence, deceiving law enforcement, and exploiting access to highly-sensitive data sources – are so outrageous, subversive and incendiary that even the events of Watergate pale in comparison. […]

“Defendants, blinded by political ambition, orchestrated a malicious conspiracy to disseminate patently false and injurious information about Donald J. Trump and his campaign, all in the hopes of destroying his life, his political career and rigging the 2016 Presidential Election in favor of Hillary Clinton.”

From there the filing went on to throw in every deceitful and baseless allegation Trump has peddled for more than six years. For instance…

“Special Counsel Mueller went on to exonerate Donald J. Trump and his campaign with his finding that there was no evidence of collusion with Russia.”
To the contrary, Robert Mueller explicitly stated that Trump was not exonerated and he enumerated at least ten instances of obstruction of justice.

And…

“The full extent of the Defendants’ wrongdoing has been steadily and gradually exposed by Special Counsel John Durham.”
Actually, Durham never alleged the wrongdoing that Trump implies. To date he has only addressed some tracking of publicly available Internet activity. What’s more, Durham’s reporting clearly states that the period of time that such Internet activity was being monitored was during President Obama’s term, not Trump’s.

In the 108 pages of this filing Trump referenced “Russia” 159 times. His obsession with absolving himself of any alleged “collusion” is obvious. But it is also ludicrous. A bipartisan report from the GOP-led Senate Intelligence Committee found that…

“The Trump campaign’s interactions with Russian intelligence services during the 2016 presidential election posed a “grave” counterintelligence threat […] it detailed how associates of Donald Trump had regular contact with Russians and expected to benefit from the Kremlin’s help.”

Trump’s lawsuit also makes false claims that the defendants were “hacking servers at Trump Tower, Trump’s private apartment, and, most alarmingly, the White House.” However, there is no evidence of that in the filing or reality. Although we do know that Trump asked Russia to hack Clinton’s emails, because he made that request on national television. Trump also mentioned Wikileaks in the lawsuit. Which is curious considering that the data Wikileaks made available to the Trump campaign was confirmed to have been provided by Russian hackers.

Any credible person analyzing this lawsuit cannot help but come away with the impression that it is nothing more than a deliberate distraction based on demonstrable lies. If it were made into a soap opera, it would be laughably unwatchable. The writers would be suing to have their names removed from the credits.

This lawsuit reeks of the sort of ineptitude that is the hallmark of Trump’s legal team. But if it proceeds, which is doubtful, it will offer some of the best entertainment deriving from the discovery process and Trump’s depositions. So here’s hoping that Trump is stupid enough to go forward with it.

UPDATE 9/9/2022: Trump’s ludicrous lawsuit got laughed out of court…

“Trump ‘is not attempting to seek redress for any legal harm,’ [Judge] Middlebrooks said. ‘He is seeking to flaunt a two-hundred-page political manifesto outlining his grievances against those that have opposed him, and this Court is not the appropriate forum.'”
