Biden Trashes Fox News Hack for ‘Garbage’ Question About Immigrant Children

President Biden announced on Wednesday that children 5-11 can begin receiving the vaccination for COVID-19. It’s a significant step toward protecting all Americans and restoring some semblance of normalcy as kids return to school.

Fox News, Joe Biden, Fake News

After the announcement, the President took questions from the press. And true to form, Fox News’ White Correspondent, Peter Doocy, managed to swerve so far off course he ended up in a landfill in another county. The exchange began with Biden having a little fun at Doocy’s expense, saying “This ought to be good,” as he called on him. And then they engaged in the following exchange:

Doocy: About the way forward, Mr. President, as you were leaving for your overseas trip there were reports that were surfacing that your administration is planning to pay illegal immigrants who were separated from their families at the border up to $450,000 each, possibly $1 million per family. Do you think that that might incentivize more people to come over illegally?
Biden: If you guys keep sending that garbage out, yeah. But it’s not true.
Doocy: So this is a garbage report?
Biden: Yeah. $450,000 per person, is that what you are saying?
Doocy: That were separated from a family member under the last administration.
Biden: That’s not going to happen.

It’s curious that Doocy would even bring up the subject of how Donald Trump enacted policies that resulted in more than 5,600 children being ripped from their parents with no process in place to keep track of them or to reunite the families. It’s a crime against humanity that was designed purposefully to punish innocent babies.

Biden’s response characterized Doocy’s question perfectly. It is a “garbage” assertion to raise the matter of compensation for the families that were harmed without acknowledging that such compensation would only be paid as the result of litigation or settlement by the victimized parties.

Biden could have been more clear about that in his response, but he was likely more interested in preventing Doocy’s false premise from becoming perceived as factual. The truth is that

“Thousands of migrant parents and children separated from each other at the U.S. border by Trump administration policies may soon be eligible for hundreds of thousands of dollars per person in compensation, according to three sources familiar with ongoing negotiations in a lawsuit brought on behalf of separated families.” […]

“The talks are part of negotiations between the Justice Department and lawyers representing the separated families in a number of tort cases that have claimed the families experienced harm when they were forcibly separated.”

There hasn’t been any dollar amount agreed to. However, if/when there is, it will surely far less than the potential judgment awarded should the matter go to trial. So the Biden administration’s solution will undoubtedly save hundreds of millions of dollars, while still having the decency to provide compensation so that the families can heal.

Biden’s response also noted the ludicrous suggestion that any compensation “might incentivize more people to come over illegally.” Doocy knows that the only people who would be eligible for compensation are those whose families were torn apart by Trump’s sadistic policies. So he seems to think that having your family destroyed would be appealing to migrants who are fleeing the poverty and violence that was traumatizing them in their home countries.

Fox News and Republicans have been at the forefront of encouraging migrants to come to the U.S. They have repeatedly advertised the fallacy of “open borders” with the intention that it draw migrants whom they they could then condemn for coming here.

So while the Biden administration is discouraging people from coming to the U.S., Fox News is making it sound like they will get free entry and cash bonuses for doing so. And all of this so that they can blame Biden because the migrants believed what Fox News told them. If anyone should be paying compensation it’s Fox News.

Chris Wallace of Fox News Praises Jen Psaki, Slams Peter Doocy, and Snubs Trump Shills

Every now and then, someone on Fox News does or says something that demands extra attention. Unfortunately it’s usually something stupid, insulting, dishonest, and/or dangerous. After all, it is America’s most fervently pro-COVID “news” network with a roster of Trump-fluffing propagandists who exist to find fault with Democrats generally and President Biden in particular.

Fox News, Jen Psaki

On Friday evening, though, there was a noticeable crack in the wall of wingnuttery that protects Fox’s viewers from rational thought. Chris Wallace, the long time host of Fox News Sunday, appeared on the network’s America Reports and provided some unexpected commentary on the the White House press community. Wallace told his Fox News colleagues that…

“Peter Doocy is the Sam Donaldson of this White House press corps. And since I was working the press corps when Sam Donaldson was there, that’s a very grudging compliment on my part. And Jen Psaki is one of the best press secretaries ever.”

That is about as direct a criticism of Doocy as will ever appear on Fox News. Wallace’s description of his “compliment” as “very grudging” is an acknowledgement that it isn’t really intended to be complimentary at all. And there is ample evidence of Doocy’s blatant bias and shameless incompetence.

However, the part of Wallace’s remarks that will reverberate around the rightosphere is his unqualified praise for Jen Psaki as “one of the best press secretaries ever.” It was, of course, a well deserved tribute to an intelligent, informative professional, who does her job with insight, compassion, and even humor. But it surely won’t go down well with Donald Trump’s cult followers who, along with Trump are already wary of Fox News, which they delusionally regard as part of the radical anti-Trump cabal.

There is, however, more to Wallace’s put down than meets the eye. By singling out Psaki for acclaim, he is giving the back of his hand to Trump’s press office cronies, some of whom are his comrades at Fox News. To begin with, for some reason, former Trump press secretary Sean Spicer retweeted Wallace’s remarks. Spicer, who is now a hosting a program on Newsmax, distinguished himself by lying on his very first day as press secretary. And his lies were to placate Trump’s ego by falsely asserting that his inauguration crowds were the biggest ever (they weren’t even close).

Spicer was followed to the podium by Sarah Sanders, who is now a Republican candidate for governor of Arkansas. Then came Stephanie Grisham, who now says she is terrified of [Trump] running for president in 2024.” She was succeeded by Kayleigh McEnany, who is now co-hosting Outnumbered on Fox News. And McEnany isn’t the only former GOP press secretary affiliated with Fox. Dana Perino is now a co-host of The Five. And the late Tony Snow preceded Wallace on Fox News Sunday.

So by recognizing Psaki’s excellence, Wallace is simultaneously snubbing her GOP counterparts who have gone on to populate Fox’s schedule and pursue careers in Republican politics and press. For this Wallace will be maligned as a traitor, and a “libtard,” and a leftist plant who should be fired (i.e. “canceled”). But he deserves some respect for having the courage to tell the truth about Psaki, a distinguished public servant, and for doing it on Fox’s air.

Jen Psaki Reminds Fox News that Trump Corrupted the DOJ and Incited an Insurrection

The daily White House press briefing is intended to provide a platform for the administration to outline its agenda and for the press to pose questions to the administration. Ordinarily the press would compose questions that would elicit information of interest to their readers and viewers, the American people.

Jen Psaki, Donald Trump

Unfortunately, that is almost never the case with ultra-partisan right-wing outfits like Fox News. Their correspondents routinely craft inquiries whose only purpose is to malign the President or advance their pre-chewed conservative doctrine. And there is no better example of this media malfeasance than Fox’s Peter Doocy. Every time he is called upon by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, Doocy scrapes the barrel bottom of pseudo-journalism and opens himself up to well deserved ridicule.

On Monday Doocy sought to trap Psaki by asserting that President Biden had broken a promise not to interfere with how the Justice Department operates. Earlier this week Biden was asked about whether the House Select Committee on January 6th should enforce its subpoenas against witnesses who refuse to cooperate. Biden replied that he hopes “that the committee goes after them and holds them accountable.” When asked whether he believed the Justice Department should prosecute them, Biden told reporters, “I do, yes.”

That was a somewhat imprecise phrasing of the administration’s position. A Justice Department spokesperson quickly clarified that the DOJ “will make its own independent decisions in all prosecutions based solely on the facts and the law.” But unlike Donald Trump, at no time did Biden direct the DOJ to take any particular action. He was merely expressing his “hope” that the law be upheld.

Doocy demonstrated his inquisitory impotence by falsely asserting in a blatantly leading question that Biden broke a promise regarding the administration of the Justice Department. Psaki asked him how Biden had broken any promise. But all that Doocy could come up with was a rewording of the same assertion that Psaki had already answered. That went on for another couple of rounds before leading up to this exchange:

Doocy: What’s changed since last year when [Biden] said ‘I will not do what former president Trump does and use the Justice Department as my vehicle to insist that something happen?’
Psaki: Since you’ve given me the opportunity here, former president Trump used his department to incite an insurrection. He put political pressure on senior DOJ officials to propagate lies about the election to the point where they threatened to resign en mass. I think there is hardly a comparison there.
Doocy: President Biden said, ‘the Justice Department and my administration will be totally independent of me,’ and he said he would not enter into any decisions about what cases the agency will bring and not…
Psaki: And he has not, and he will not .And criminal prosecutions are the sole purview of the Department of Justice. That is the President’s position. That is what he nominated the Attorney General to operate under.

It was helpful of Doocy to remind everyone that Trump had “used the Justice Department as [his] vehicle” to pursue his personal interests and acts of vengeance. Indeed, Trump had repeatedly corrupted the independence of the Justice Department by ordering it to act as if they were his private attorneys. He was even doing it after he was no longer president.

Psaki correctly pointed out to Doocy that “Trump used his department to incite an insurrection” and to “put political pressure on senior DOJ officials.” Trump tried to get the DOJ to buy into his “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged” and “stolen” from him. But that still didn’t deter Doocy from reiterating his failed argument that Biden had somehow interfered with DOJ decisions. He didn’t. And Psaki affirmed that he wouldn’t.

In the end, the only thing that Doocy accomplished was to provide Psaki with an opportunity to explain in further detail the White House’s dedication to the independence of the Department of Justice. While simultaneously refreshing the public memory about Trump’s misconduct in office and his gross inability to comprehend the proper role of the presidency. So perhaps we don’t give Doocy enough credit for helping Psaki to set the record straight. Thanks Pete.

Fox News Hack Peter Doocy Gets A Remedial Lesson in Immigration from Jen Psaki

Fox News might want to have their White House correspondent, Peter Doocy, examined by a mental health expert. He keeps displaying signs of masochism or other self-destructive behaviors whenever he is around President Biden’s press secretary, Jen Psaki.

Jen Psaki, Fox News, Peter Doocy

On Monday Doocy took his seat in the press briefing room and waited to be called upon to ask a question. When his opportunity came he proudly inquired as to certain procedures that are followed for testing refugees and migrants for the coronavirus. Unfortunately, he didn’t seem to understand even the most basic differences between the handling of migrants as opposed to citizens. So Psaki had to school him like a child:

Doocy: If somebody walks into the country right across the river, does somebody ask them to see their vaccination card?
Psaki: Let me explain to you again, Peter, how our process works. As individuals come across the border they are assessed for whether they have any symptoms. If they have symptoms the intention is for them to be quarantined. That is our process. They are not intending to stay here for a lengthy period of time. [Doocy interrupts to draw parallels with people flying into the U.S.]

Psaki: I don’t think it’s the same thing. It’s not the same thing. These are individuals as we’ve noted and as has been discussed. We are expelling individuals based on Title 42, specifically because of COVID, because we want to prevent a scenario where large numbers of people are gathering and posing a threat to the community and also to the migrants themselves. Those are the policies we put in place in large part because, again, the CDC continues to recommend Title 42 be in place given we’re facing a global pandemic.

For some reason, Doocy seems to think that undocumented migrants should be processed the same as people arriving on international flights with passports. Is he really unaware that some refugees might be traveling without papers or visas or even vaccination cards? They need to be processed differently due to their unique circumstances. But Doocy’s question implies that the circumstances are the same and so the procedures should be as well.

Psaki’s patience with inane questions like these is commendable. But when they come from the same person so frequently and predictably, you would think there would be a limit. Some of Doocy’s prior exchanges include the time he tried to conflate processes involving American employees with those involving immigrants. Or the time he failed to grasp that a pandemic is a moving target that requires constant reassessment. Or the time he tried to combine completely unrelated pandemic issues into one issue that he can exploit. And those are just the questions related to COVID.

It’s troubling that these questions have to be tolerated in a briefing room full of actual journalists who have substantive questions. The time wasted on Doocy is depriving the American people of answers to questions that will actually impact their lives. But this is one of the costs of having a free press wherein the Doocys of the world get their fifteen minutes of dumbassery.

Has Jen Psaki Finally Had Enough of Fox News Hack Peter Doocy’s Gotcha Questions?

President Biden’s initiative to increase the rate of vaccinations in America is being received by the majority of people in the country with significant support and optimism. A recent poll asking whether voters in five swing states would favor corporations requiring employees to get vaccinated or get tested weekly found that upwards of 60% were in favor of it.

Jen Psaki, Fox News, Peter Doocy

That broad-based support, however, has not deterred Fox News and Republican partisans from launching exceedingly hostile attacks on both Biden and his plan. Here’s a taste of the rancid rhetoric that Fox is regurgitating:

That last friendly fellow who was insinuating that government employees be murdered was Josh Mandel, the current Republican candidate for Senate in Ohio.

Meanwhile, at Friday’s White House press briefing, Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy assumed his role as Chief of Inane Inquisitions. Seeking to trip up Press Secretary Jen Psaki (for which he has a perfect record of failure), Doocy entered into the following exchange:

Doocy: Why is it that you’re trying to require anybody with a job or anybody who goes to school to get the COVID-19 vaccine, but you are not requiring that of migrants that continue walking across southern border into the country?
Psaki: Look, our objective is to get as many people vaccinated across the country as humanly possible. And so the President’s announcement yesterday was an effort to empower businesses, to give businesses the tolls to protect their workforces. That’s exactly what we did. But certainly we want everybody to get vaccinated, and the more people to get vaccinated, whether they are migrants or whether they are workers, protects more people in the United States.
Doocy: But it’s a requirement for people at a business with more than a hundred people, but it’s not a requirement for migrants at the Southern border. Why?
Psaki: That’s correct.

Psaki’s final response was less a reply to Doocy’s question than it was a dismissal of his foolishness as a waste of time. There are stark and obvious differences between the government’s role in making the workplaces of 100 million people safer, and the role of immigration agencies managing a few thousand temporary detainees. Biden’s focus on the former is clearly a higher priority.

That said, the welfare of the detainees has not been disregarded. All of the immigrants coming across the Southern border are tested for the coronavirus and offered a vaccination. And just like American workers, they are not forced to take it. Even so, 70% of the immigrants agree to be vaccinated. That’s a significantly higher percentage of vaccine acceptance than for Fox News viewers, which is only about 62%. That compares to 83% for viewers of CNN or MSNBC. The numbers are even worse for Trump voters (50%) versus Biden voters (91%).

Doocy’s question harbors a couple of typical Fox News hypocrisies. First of all, it’s premise is that it’s wrong to mandate vaccines. But it then it suggests that, despite being wrong, such mandates should be applied to even more people, in this case immigrants. Secondly, if Fox News were aware that vaccines actually are being offered to immigrants, the network’s xenophobes would be outraged that those resources were going to foreigners rather than American citizens. America First, and all that.

So once again Doocy has demonstrated his ignorance of the issues he raises. Either that or he is so determined to manufacture controversy that he doesn’t care how ignorant he appears. And once again Psaki has spanked him for his pathetic insolence. You would think he would get tired of this after so long. Apparently Psaki is.

After Terrorist Attack, Peter Doocy of Fox News Asks Biden if He ‘Bears Any Responsibility’

As the U.S. involvement in the war in Afghanistan winds down, the risks that were anticipated are unfolding in tragic ways. On Thursday a terrorist suicide bomber killed scores of people assembled at the gates of the airport in Kabul. Twelve of them were American soldiers. It was the deadliest day for the U.S. military in Afghanistan in years.

Fox News, Peter Doocy

President Biden addressed the American people from the White House to pay tribute to the deceased heroes, to assure the terrorists that they will pay a steep price, and to comfort a grieving nation.

Biden then took questions from the press. Many of the questions were relevant and produced useful information. However, one question was brazenly slanted and intended only to assign blame at a time when the nation was more focused securing those in danger and apprehending the perpetrators. That question was asked by Peter Doocy of Fox News, of course:

Doocy: Mr. President, there had not been a U.S. service member killed in combat in Afghanistan since February of 2020. You set a deadline. You pulled troops out. You sent troops back in. And now twelve Marines are dead. You said the buck stops with you. Do you bear any responsibility for the way things have unfolded in the past two weeks?
Biden: I bear responsibility for fundamentally all that’s happened of late. But here’s the deal: You know – I wish you one day say these things – you know as well as I do that the former president made a deal with the Taliban that we would get all American forces out of Afghanistan by May 1. In return the commitment was made – that was the year before – in return he was given the commitment that the Taliban would continue to attack others, but would not attack any American forces. Remember that?

To his credit, Biden showed the integrity to accept full responsibility for the somber duties he performs as Commander in Chief. Doocy’s attempt to make this all about some facile form of guilt was intended to malign the President. It didn’t work.

To the contrary, Biden flipped the question back on Doocy, asking him to recall that it was Donald Trump who made the deal with the Taliban to remove all American forces by May 1st – four months sooner – in exchange for lifting all sanctions and freeing 5,000 of their imprisoned fighters. That’s a deal that Trump’s own National Security Advisor called a surrender agreement.”

Trump never had a plan to end the war or evacuate Americans and Afghan allies. That’s a failing that was pointed out on Wednesday in response to yet another ill-advised question by Doocy. And as tensions mount, Fox News seems to be having trouble fulfilling their mission to undermine Democrats in government service. They even had a reporter chastise Republicans for leaping in front of the terrorist bombing story for their own selfish political advantage.

Doocy’s efforts to politicize and trivialize the painful loss of life in Afghanistan is typical for Fox News. No story has any significance to them unless it can be exploited to hurt Democrats. Which is why Doocy and his handlers composed their question as a club with which to beat up on Biden. The only problem is that they are just so bad at it that it rarely, if ever, works.

Trump’s Plan for Afghanistan Was to Abandon Our Troops and Allies, Psaki Reveals His Lies

One of the problems that Joe Biden inherited from his predecessors when he became President was the two decades long war in Afghanistan. And he made it clear that he was determined to make certain that it wasn’t handed down to another president.

Jen Psaki, Donald Trump

Biden’s goal was strewn with obstacles placed in his path by Donald Trump, whose abysmal deal with the Taliban has been lambasted by his own National Security Advisor as a surrender agreement,” that lifted all sanctions on the Taliban and freed 5,000 of their imprisoned fighters, including their leader.

Not one to be deterred by reality, Trump is still hammering away at Biden with blatantly dishonest representations of the situation now unfolding in Afghanistan. He released a statement on Tuesday via his spokes-shill, Liz Harrington (whose proxy Trump tweeting is violating Twitter’s rules against circumventing a ban), that sound more like a madman on a street corner yelling at passing cars than a diplomat:

“Biden surrendered Afghanistan to terrorists and left thousands of Americans for dead by pulling out the Military before our citizens. Now we are learning that out of the 26,000 people who have been evacuated, only 4,000 are Americans. You can be sure the Taliban, who are now in complete control, didn’t allow the best and brightest to board these evacuation flights. Instead, we can only imagine how many thousands of terrorists have been airlifted out of Afghanistan and into neighborhoods around the world. What a terrible failure. NO VETTING. How many terrorists will Joe Biden bring to America? We don’t know!”

There’s a lot to unpack in that hysterical harangue. Starting at the top, Biden did not surrender to terrorists. That was Trump. And Biden has not left a single American for dead, much less thousands. Trump appears to have ingested some powerful hallucinogens.

Moving on, Trump is surprised that 26,000 of the evacuees were Afghans. He apparently doesn’t know that there are far more Afghans in Afghanistan than Americans. He also doesn’t seem to know that thousands of them served our troops loyally and bravely and deserve to be rescued from a dire fate at the hands of the Taliban. Trump is actually repeating the very same racist lines that he previously used on Mexican refugees, implying that they are all criminals being “sent” to America by wily foreign governments.

What’s more, Trump is outright lying (surprise) about whether these Afghans are vetted before being evacuated. This question was raised at the White House daily press briefing by Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy. Which gave press secretary Jen Psaki yet another opportunity to publicly humiliate him. Doocy asked a loaded question suggesting that there are suspected terrorists among the evacuees. Psaki replied saying that…

“We have a stringent vetting process, which includes background checks before any individual comes to the United States. So I can’t speak to one individual, but I can tell you and confirm for you that we take the vetting of any individual who comes to the United States and comes out incredibly seriously and it’s an extensive process.

“I would say that this is now on track, Peter, to be the largest airlift in US history. And that is bringing American citizens out. It is bringing our Afghan partners out. It is bringing allies out. So, no, I would not say that is anything but a success.”

Doocy, masochist that he is, persisted with another question suggesting that because Biden is hoping to stick to the August 31 date for the withdrawal to be completed, that the Taliban had “the same kind of influence over military planning as the Commander in Chief?” And once again, Psaki had to set him straight:

“Well, first of all Peter, the Taliban’s deadline was May 1st, struck in a deal with the prior administration. The President’s timeline was August 31st. That’s the timeline he set, and a period of time he needed in order to operationalize our departure from Afghanistan.”

Anyone who had even a glancing knowledge of these matters knew that the Taliban and Trump had agreed to a May 1st exit date. So it’s just a demonstration of his ignorance that Doocy didn’t know that the August 31 date was Biden’s decision, not the Taliban’s. And Biden is reserving the option to extend that date if conditions on the ground require it. The Taliban has no role in that decision making process.

It’s clear from Trump’s remarks that his plan was to leave behind both Americans and Afghans. He had not initiated any operations to evacuate anyone prior to his evacuation from the White House, even though there were only three months between his exit and May 1st. That may have been his purposeful attempt to hamstring Biden, or it may have just been his incompetence and negligence.

Either way, Trump has no right to complain about how things are turning out. Just the fact that the Biden team has evacuated 70,000 people since August 14 is a testament to what competent leadership can achieve. And he did it while also dealing with a surging pandemic (also Trump’s fault) and a busy legislative agenda that included bills to provide relief payments to the American people, a historic investment in infrastructure, and an effort to preserve voting rights.

WHUT? Trump Refuses to Promote Vaccines Because it Might Help Biden or Upset His Cult

The years that America endured having Donald Trump occupying the White House made one thing crystal clear. Trump is suffering from Malignant Narcissistic Personality Disorder. He is emotionally incapable of caring about anyone or anything other than himself. That has been affirmed via his daily obsession with drawing attention to himself, and his incessant whining about not getting his way.

Donald Trump, Coronavirus

Trump’s promulgation of the “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “stolen” from him, and the violence that resulted during the January 6th insurrection, is further proof of his callous disregard for the welfare of others. Even worse, Trump demonstrated his devotion to only his own interests by his negligent mismanagement of the COVID pandemic and the deaths of more than 600,000 Americans. He knew early on how severe it was, but chose to downplay it in order to avoid having it reflect badly on him.

We are now facing a fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic. Virtually every health expert has attributed this surge to the resistance of many to get vaccinated. And the data reveals that most of the resistors are Trump supporting, Republican, Fox News viewers. These are people who are less likely to be influenced by medical authorities or experts in the media. Although they could be persuaded by their Dear Leader Trump were he to speak up.

Unfortunately, a new account of Trump’s current attitude about vaccines provides additional evidence of his rancid state of mind. According to the Daily Beast

“It’s been more than six months since Donald Trump left office and, despite pleas from multiple friends and advisers, the former president has kept refusing to mount anything resembling a real effort to get his supporters vaccinated.

“As COVID-19 continues to rip through the United States, Trump has done little more than make sporadic gestures toward the vaccine, including when he said he’d ‘recommend’ people get the shot during a Fox News interview, while underscoring at the same time that he respected people’s ‘freedoms’ to not get vaccinated.”

Trump’s wavering on the issue of getting vaccinated has insured that his supporters would continue to decline the most effective method of staying healthy and progressing down the path to normalcy for the whole of society. But the Daily Beast’s sources say that Trump…

“…doesn’t want to push too hard on the subject, so as to not ‘piss off his base,'” […and that…] “he doesn’t feel he needs to do any ‘favors’ for Biden.”

And that is just about as disgusting a commentary on Trump’s perverse perspective as you’re going to find. He would literally prefer to see people get sick and die, than to offend his cult disciples or put the nation on a path to wellness because Biden might get some credit for that.

This matter was raised during a White House press briefing in July when Peter Doocy of Fox News asked press secretary Jen Psaki if Biden would consider doing a pro-vaccine event with Trump. She pointed out that the White House welcomed any positive engagement on the issue. She also noted that Trump had six months to put out his own messaging, but failed to do so.

As for Fox News, they have also had opportunities to encourage their audience get vaccinated. And despite evidence of the potentially positive impact they could have, they also declined to act responsibly. This is a pattern of behavior that is consistent among right-wingers who are focused more on maintaining power than on people. And it’s sad that everyone else has to suffer due to their pig-headed selfishness.

PSAKI BOMB: A Doocy Dud on the Booming Biden Economy Gets Demolished

Another day, another humiliating smackdown for Fox News White House cor-despondent, Peter Doocy. If one didn’t know better, it would almost seem like Doocy was a plant in the White House briefing room, providing slow pitches for press secretary Jen Psaki to hit out of the park. Which she does with grace and saintly patience.

Psaki Lightening

During Friday’s daily press briefing the lead topic was the outstanding jobs report released early that morning. The U.S. economy added a higher than expect 943,000 jobs in July, while the unemployment rate dipped to 5.4% — the lowest since the pandemic hit more than a year ago.

So naturally, Doocy had to figure out a way to frame his question in the negative. He didn’t do very well. For one thing, his Fox News handlers will not be pleased that he acknowledged that the economy under President Biden is “so great.” According to Donald Trump we should be in a depression by now. But Doocy did manage to spin this good news as something to complain about:

Doocy: If the economy is so great, you guys are celebrating jobs being created at a historic…
Psaki: Wouldn’t you say over 900,000 jobs created is pretty good?
Doocy: So this is my question. Why then is the President still pushing for big relief packages, pandemic-era relief packages like the eviction moratorium?
Psaki: Well, first I would say, one of the biggest pieces of the legislation he’s pushing for as we know is the infrastructure package, and also the Build Back Better agenda. Most of the components in those packages are long-term investments. They’re overdue. They’re meant to modernize our infrastructure, put people back to work over the long-term, and make us competitive over the long-term. It is still a reality, even with a good jobs number this month, and even with four million jobs created over six months, that there are still people out of work. There are still people who don’t have enough money to make ends meet.

This answer would seem so obvious to most people that the question would never even be asked. Just because things are improving, it doesn’t erase the hardships that people have been struggling with for the past year. Particularly those threatened with eviction, wherein the missed rent payments date back several months. Landing a job this week doesn’t pay those back rents or remove the threat of eviction.

The fact that Doocy needs to have this explained to him is a sad testament to his ignorance and unfitness for the job he’s pretending to do. But it’s also typical of his tenure in the White House press corps where he’s also needed help understanding the evolving state of a viral pandemic, or grasping the complexities of inflation. He has virtually made his career by admitting publicly that almost every important field of study is over his head.

Jim Jordan, and Fox News, Attack Obama’s Birthday Party, Get Blown to Bits by Jen Psaki

The Republican Party continues to suffer a deficit of exploitable scandals to pin on President Joe Biden. His approval rating is holding steady and his legislative agenda is progressing with surprisingly bipartisan support. As a result the GOP, and their Ministry of Propaganda (aka Fox News) are forced to manufacture hit pieces in order to keep the peasants sufficiently pissed off.

Obama Fox News

To that end, Ohio’s QAnon Republican, Jim Jordan, posted a tweet aimed at embarrassing former President Barack Obama. Referencing his upcoming birthday party, Jordan said that “This is a dangerous super-spreader event. How can someone be so reckless? They’re killing people.” These are, Jordan claimed “The things Democrats would say if this was President Trump’s birthday party.”

The only problem with that is literally everything. To begin with, the link that Jordan provided in his attempted hate-tweet contradicted his criticisms. And you didn’t even have to click on it. Right below Jordan’s ranting it said that “The party will be held outdoors, all guests are asked to be vaccinated and there will be a COVID-coordinator.” If you did click on it, there were further details that revealed that “Martha’s Vineyard does not qualify as an area of ‘substantially-high’ risk, which was the target of the CDC recommendations.”

So Obama’s party will not be a reckless, super-spreader event that would be killing anyone. It will be an appropriately managed affair that is in accordance with CDC guidelines, and that takes into consideration the well being of the guests. If this was Trump’s birthday party, the only thing that Democrats would be saying is how astonished they are by his uncharacteristically responsible behavior.

Of course, Trump would never conduct himself with such concern and competence. In fact, he just announced another Super-Spreader Cult Rally later this month in Alabama, where masks, vaccinations, social distancing, etc., will be purposely ignored. Alabama presently has among the lowest rates of vaccination and among highest increase in new cases. So expect it get even worse there, and in the surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, Fox News White House correspondent, Peter Doocy, broached the same subject at the White House daily press briefing. It’s almost as if these people have plotted out there talking points for the day in advance. However,, as usual, Doocy was gently humiliated by press secretary Jen Psaki, when he asked what he surely thought would be a devastating “gotcha” question:

Doocy: Is President Obama setting a wrong example about how serious COVID-19 is by hosting a big birthday party with hundreds of people this week?
Psaki: Well, I would certainly refer you to the team who is working for my former boss to give you more specifics of what the protocols are in place. But I would note first that former President Obama has been a huge advocate of individuals getting vaccinated. What CDC has provided guidance on is for indoor settings in high or substantial high zones of COVID cases. This event, according to all the public reporting, is outdoors and in a moderate zone. But in addition there is testing requirements and other steps they are taking which I am sure they can outline for you in more detail.

Not satisfied, Doocy asked the exact same question two more times, while Psaki struggled to give him the same answer in different ways hoping that it would get through to him.

These pathetic attempts to turn a birthday celebration into a horror story only demonstrate how desperate Fox News and the Republicans are for anything to beat up on Democrats with. But it also reveals how ignorant they are about the state of the COVID pandemic and the proper procedures to conduct business during it, while maintaining the health and safety of everyone concerned.

If Fox News cared about the welfare of the American people they wouldn’t have spent the last year lying to them about the pandemic. Which they are still doing now. And the same goes for Republicans like Jordan whose only interests are preserving power and pleasing Dear Leader Trump by patronizing his delusional and narcissistic worldview.

UPDATE: In an effort to be exceedingly cautious and responsible, Obama Scales back his birthday bash amid COVID.
