Trump Announces His Next Business Failure, a Social Media Venture Called ‘TRUTH Social’

In early January of 2021, Donald Trump was suspended permanently from Twitter. This took place just two days after the deadly January 6th insurrection in Washington, D.C. The explanation given by Twitter was that “we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.” He was subsequently banished from YouTube and Facebook as well.

Donald Trump Circling the Drain

Ever since then Trump has threatened to start his own social media enterprise to compete with the ones that he delusionally complains are run by radical leftists. In fact, he has already tried and failed. But now he is finally delivering – again – on that petulant, whining threat. In a post by his spokes shill, Liz Harrington (whose proxy tweeting for Trump violates Twitter’s rules on circumventing a ban), Trump has announced that “Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) will soon be launching a social network, named ‘TRUTH social'” (see below). The post went on to state that…

“Trump Media & Technology Group’s mission is to create a rival to the liberal media consortium and fight back against the ‘Big Tech’ companies of Silicon Valley, which have used their unilateral power to silence opposing voices in America.”

So the pathological liar, who has been documented telling more than 30,000 lies during his single term in the White House, is calling his new social media venture “Truth”? Trump is also propagator of the “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged” and “stolen” from him. That’s a falsehood that incited the violent riots on January 6th and the storming of the Capitol by Trump’s cult followers. And Trump’s grotesque lies about the COVID pandemic led directly to hundreds of thousands of deaths and millions of people suffering. So, of course…TRUTH! Or as it’s known in the original Russian, PRAVDA!

For nearly a year Trump has been dreaming of this sort of ego-fueling platform to whine on uninterrupted. He says that his alt-Twitter will “fight back” against those who are “silenc[ing] opposing voices.” Like Gab, Parlar, Gettr, and the MyPillow guy’s FRANKSpeech, with which he will now be competing? Not to mention Fox News, Newsmax, Sinclair, and OAN. The announcement closed with this paragraph that reads like bad satire:

President Donald J. Trump, the Chairman of TMTG, stated ‘I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon. I created TRUTH Social and TMTG to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech. We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. This is unacceptable. I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon. TMTG was founded with a mission to give a voice to all. I’m excited to soon begin sharing my thoughts on TRUTH Social and to fight back against Big Tech. Everyone asks me why doesn’t someone stand up to Big Tech? Well, we will be soon!

There is already evidence that this is all just another Trump con game. Nevertheless, Trump spawn, Don Jr, was on Fox News tonight with Sean Hannity to hype his latest grift. He complained that on all the lefty search engines “all you see is the CNN, the MSNBC, yadda, yadda, yadda. The leftist narrative all way down. You can never get to the other side of the story.” Yes, he was saying that on Fox News, the highest rated cable “news” network.

However, the most pressing question about this boondoggle is whether it will it be as “successful” as Trump’s other swindles. For instance, his four bankrupt casinos, his fraudulent university, his steaks, his vodka, his airline, his D.C. hotel, his scam charitable foundation that was shut down because it was stealing funds, and so much more.

And let’s not forget his failed, lie-filled presidency that featured two impeachments, numerous felonious associates, international humiliation, record national debt and unemployment, approval ratings that never reached 50 percent, losing the popular vote by significant margins twice, inciting a violent insurrection, and deliberately mismanaging a pandemic that resulted in more than 700,000 dead Americans. Other than that… We can’t wait.

Trump is FREAKING OUT Over Arizona Fraudit Results that Prove Biden Won

The sham audit that Arizona Republicans have been hyping for several weeks is coming to an ignominious end. The Cyber Ninjas have released the results of their phony “forensic review,” and will now skulk back into the shadows from whence they came. Meanwhile, Joe Biden will ignore it all and just continue being President.

Donald Trump

On the other hand, Donald Trump and his contemptible confederates are not ignoring it all. Instead, they are focusing on preposterous accounts of utter nonsense so they can keep pumping out their “Big Lie” BS to his dimwitted disciples. The highly disreputable Cyber Ninjas were ultimately unable to manufacture any voting irregularities. In fact, their end count actually showed a wider margin of victory for Biden, with more votes for him and fewer for Trump.

This state of affairs has sent Trump into a ferocious frenzy as he feebly tries to fit the facts into a constructed reality that he, in his narcissistic stupor, can comprehend. And, true to form, his main method for doing that is to flood the zone with wild, nonsensical outbursts that serve no purpose other than to satiate his mammoth ego and to inflame his followers.

To that end Trump had his spokes-shill, Liz Harrington (whose proxy Trump tweeting is violating Twitter’s rules against circumventing a ban) post a statement asserting that the subpoenas of four of his closest associates (Mark Meadows, Dan Scavino, Steve Bannon, and Kash Patel) were merely a diversion from the the Cyber Ninja fraudit report.

One of Trump’s tweets on Thursday forewarned that “everybody will be watching Arizona tomorrow to see what the highly respected auditors and Arizona State Senate found out regarding the so-called Election!” That tweet didn’t age well. On Friday the report validating the original vote count was released with none of the “proof” of corruption that he and his minions had promised.

But it didn’t stop there. Trump, via Harrington, pounded out a manic maelstrom of 55 tweets alleging election fraud, in spite of the results in the official review. He hasn’t had a Twitter tirade like that since before he was banned. It was a bizarre hodge-podge of unsupported claims with no factual basis or verifiable evidence.

For instance, in one tweet Trump delusionally claimed that the “Lamestream Media are feeding large-scale misinformation to the public about the Arizona Audit. The Audit was a big win for democracy and a big win for us.” In another tweet he simply demanded that “Arizona must immediately decertify their 2020 Presidential Election Results.” He recently made the same demand of officials in Georgia.

It only got worse from there. It just doesn’t matter to Trump – or his cult followers – if the evidence matches his assertions. It doesn’t even matter if his blathering has any resemblance to reality. Trump just lets his rhetorical rambling pour out with the confidence that his simple-minded pawns will obediently buy into it. And he hits them with wave after wave of muddled meanderings to keep them off balance and incapable of noticing that none of it has any intelligible meaning. And, sadly, for some small, pathetic portion of the populace, it’s actually working for him.

Twitter Trolls are Lying About Rachel Maddow Spreading COVID Misinformation

Donald Trump and his Republican Party have embraced lying as an indispensable tool in their political tool chest. Their brazen disregard for honesty is demonstrated with nearly every public utterance they make. Trump alone has racked up an appalling record of more than 30,000 lies during his single term as president. All of which is obediently disseminated by their Ministry of Disinformation (aka Fox News).

Rachel Maddow

So naturally, these Olympic-grade truth manglers are anxious to project their reality warping antics onto the Democrats and liberals they so fervently despise. And, unsurprisingly, one of their primary targets would be MSNBC’s star host, Rachel Maddow.

On Sunday morning Maddow’s name was trending on Twitter. However the reason was typically devoid of facts or logic. The conservative Twitter trolls were all a flitter because they thought they had caught Maddow in a gross misrepresentation of coronavirus information. The subject concerned the dangerously inappropriate use of a horse dewormer, Ivermectin, to “cure” COVID. That’s a subject that Maddow has covered in detail. But the latest melodrama all sprung from this tweet by Maddow and the right-wing’s knee-jerk rebuttal:

The tweet by Maddow linked to a story by KFOR, a local Oklahoma television station. So right off the bat, she was not making any statements for which she could be blamed if they were inaccurate. And spoiler alert: They were not inaccurate. The station’s newscast interviewed a rural Oklahoma doctor who gave his account of how the state’s health systems were holding up during the COVID Delta variant surge that has been ravaging mostly Republican led states like Oklahoma. KFOR reported that…

“Dr. [Jason] McElyea said patients are packing his eastern and southeastern Oklahoma hospitals after taking ivermectin doses meant for a full-sized horse, because they believed false claims the horse de-wormer could fight COVID-19.

“‘The ERs are so backed up that gunshot victims were having hard times getting to facilities where they can get definitive care and be treated. […] All of their ambulances are stuck at the hospital waiting for a bed to open so they can take the patient in and they don’t have any.'”

While all of that is easily verifiable, the Twitter trolls latched unto a statement released by a hospital network with which Dr. McElyea was affiliated. The statement said that…

“Although Dr. Jason McElyea is not an employee of NHS Sequoyah, he is affiliated with a medical staffing group that provides coverage for our emergency room. With that said, Dr. McElyea has not worked at our Sallisaw location in over 2 months. NHS Sequoyah has not treated any patients due to complications related to taking ivermectin.”

From that statement the wingnut contingent immediately started blasting Maddow as the great falsifier. They charged that the entire story was sham because the doctor was not an employee of the NHS. They demanded that Twitter punish her with a suspension or a total ban for allegedly disseminating COVID disinformation. Glenn Greenwald was among those clamoring for Maddow’s head. GOP Ohio Senate candidate J.D. Vance ranted that “Alex Jones is a far more reputable source” than Maddow. Trump crony Sebastian Gorka railed “Hey Maddow you lie.”

There’s just one problem. The statement by the NHS was completely irrelevant. Neither KFOR nor Dr. McElyea ever mentioned the NHS or the circumstances at that particular hospital. The doctor did not claim to be speaking as an NHS employee, but instead as an observer of Oklahoma’s health system. And multiple sources affirm what Dr. McElyea said. for instance…

Oklahoma health officials are choosing to keep hospital capacity data under wraps as some of the state’s major health systems announce they have zero ICU beds open.”

According to Oklahoma Hospital Association President Patti Davis, ‘We know that patients are being transferred out of state for beds.'”

The situation in Oklahoma is unquestionably dire, despite the Republican governor’s efforts to hide the facts. The medical professionals in the field know exactly what’s going on, and they aren’t afraid to talk about it. That includes Dr. McElyea.

But reality has never stopped conservative deceivers from muddying the water and misleading their dimwitted followers who will never do their own research. Which is how they get roped into ingesting poisons like Ivermectin in the first place. And as usual, Fox News couldn’t care less if they live or die. And neither does Donald Trump.

UPDATE: Not surprisingly, Fox News joined the Twitter Trolls who falsely claimed that the KFOR story was false. They relied heavily on tweets by Drew Holden, an independent, right-wing “reporter” who ironically chastises Maddow and “the left” for not researching the story, when obviously he didn’t. Fox News didn’t either.

How Stupid is Trump’s Designated Twitter? Check Out Her Bogus ‘Proof’ of Election Fraud

Ever since Donald Trump was banished from Twitter nearly eight months ago “due to the risk of further incitement of violence,” his spokesperson, Liz Harrington, has been proxy tweeting on his behalf. Doing so is a blatant violation of Twitter’s rules against circumventing a ban, and should not be permitted. But Twitter is neglecting its own rules in order to placate a pathetic loser who is intent on inflaming his glassy-eyed disciples like the one who made a bomb threat in Washington, D.C. Thursday morning.

Donald Trump, Twitter

Harrington’s tweets are mostly just cut and paste regurgitations of the hostile, ignorant, and often incoherent lies issued by Trump. She has posted hundreds of them of them in the past few months. But she will occasionally post something that she thinks is important for Trump’s cult followers to know about. And that’s what she did on Thursday when she retweeted a video that claimed to be “proof” of the mythical election fraud that Trump is so obsessed with. Harrington added her own sarcastic commentary mocking the video as evidence of “The most secure election in history.”

This was clearly a triumphant discovery for Harrington. She had found what was, in her feeble mind, confirmation of Democratic shenanigans to steal another election. There was just one problem. Everything about the video smelled of horse manure. Everything from the caption alleging that two women were “stealing” ballots, to the attribution associating it with the police, were totally fabricated.

First of all, there is no time stamp on the video so it could have been made ten years ago. There is no verifiable location. There is no identification of the people, who may actually be authorized to maintain the mail facility.

What’s more, the envelopes are not recognizably ballots. And even if it were, it cannot be determined how they were voted. If anything, they would be more likely to be votes for Gavin Newsom because Democrats are more likely to vote by mail than Republicans. So maybe Harrington actually stumbled on another example of the GOP tampering with an election.

Finally, the user ID (“police-frequency”) is not affiliated with law enforcement, despite the notation that explicitly asserts that. If you go to the original source for the video you’ll find that it is just the social media account of a right wing, Trump supporting Telegram user who posts lots of links to conservative conspiracy theories and Fox News.

If this were just some random Twitter clown posting the typical nonsense that gets disseminated online it would be bad enough. But Harrington is the official spokesperson for a former president who continues to string along his sheep with hints of a future campaign to regain the White House (despite his deranged insistence that he never lost it).

It is irresponsible and potentially dangerous for Harrington to post messages like these as it adds fuel to Trump’s crusade to undermine faith in American democracy. But in addition to the possible civil unrest it could provoke, it is also pitifully stupid. It shows that she couldn’t bother to spend ten minutes to investigate the video and see what a load of bunk it was. Or perhaps she did and didn’t care. That would be routine behavior for Trump and his team of professional, albeit frightfully inept, liars.

Trump Spokes-Shill Liz Harrington’s Twitter Account is ‘Temporarily Restricted’

Seven months ago Twitter belatedly banished the account of Donald Trump as he was promulgating blatant lies about election fraud and whipping up his cult disciples into savage mobs bent on sedition. Twitter imposed the ban on January 8th, two days after Trump’s deadly insurrection on Capitol Hill, saying that “we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”

Donald Trump, Liz Harrington, Twitter

In the seven months since his suspension Trump has actually escalated his reckless rhetoric. Trump continued to make purposefully inflammatory comments online and at his cult rallies (where he sometimes does himself more harm than good). Although he has managed to maintain an online presence despite his exile from Twitter (and YouTube and Facebook), much of it has demonstrated his infamous capacity for failure. For instance, his attempt to launch an online blog was shut down in less than a month.

However, none of that deterred Trump from pursuing his aspirations of messianic tyranny. Aiding and abetting this nightmarish goal was his new spokeswoman, Liz Harrington. As soon as she came aboard she began posting tweets that were nothing more than cut-and-paste Trumpisms that he was tweeting himself prior to his exile from social media. It was a brazen attempt to circumvent the Twitter ban, which is a violation of their terms of service.

In the month of July Harrington was Trump’s Twitter proxy more than 80 times. By allowing this, Twitter was itself helping Trump to continue disseminating his crackpot conspiracy theories that had already fomented a deadly riot and the first assault on the U.S. Congress in America’s history.

Now there appears to be at least a temporary relief from the Trumpist propaganda peddled by Harrington. On Friday morning anyone vising her Twitter account received a message saying…

“Caution: This account is temporarily restricted. You’re seeing this warning because there has been some unusual activity from this account. Do you still want to view it?”

It’s not clear what Twitter is referring to as the “unusual activity.” Neither is it clear how long the restriction will remain in place. It could be revoked within minutes or months. But it is a step in the right direction. And it validates all of the efforts by innumerable Twitter users who reported Harrington for violating Twitter’s rules.

This, however, is not the time to declare victory and withdraw. Since the account is still technically accessible, it is imperative that people continue to report it. Harrington should be suspended permanently for her repeated breaches that have allowed Trump to continue provoking potentially violent behavior. He is a clear and present danger to the nation, and Harrington (and Twitter) must not be permitted to assist him in his treasonous pursuits.

UPDATE: The restriction lasted less than 24 hours, and Harrington is back to posting Trump’s alt-tweets. So apparently Twitter still doesn’t care if their rules are violated by Trump and his confederates in ways that will surely incite further violence.

Hannity and Dershowitz Display Their Utter Ignorance and Disrespect for the Constitution

On Wednesday Donald Trump announced that he intends to file a lawsuit against Facebook, Twitter, Google, and their executives for not allowing him to disseminate dangerously inflammatory lies. It’s a laughably pathetic legal stunt populated by a clown show of disreputable attorneys making preposterous arguments.

Fox News Sean Hannity

Trump’s lawsuit has been recognized by most legal experts as a frivolous abuse of the court system that is aimed more at fleecing his cult followers than prevailing in court. But undeterred by rational legal analysis, Fox News jumped eagerly into supporting Trump’s futile legal antics. On Wednesday evening Sean Hannity invited Alan Dershowitz to comment on the litigation. Dershowitz was a member of Trump’s impeachment defense team, so his prejudices and intellectual deficiencies are apparent. However, he was truly skirting the edges of coherence when he engaged in this exchange with Hannity:

Hannity: Seems like a strong case. But obviously nothing is a slam dunk.
Dershowitz: This is the most important First Amendment case of the 21st century, and it’s important because it pits freedom of speech on the one hand against the First Amendment on the other hand. That may sound paradoxical, but remember, it’s the high tech giants that are banning freedom of speech. They are censoring. But they are claiming the right to do so under the First Amendment. So they’re using the First Amendment as a sword against freedom of speech.

First of all, Hannity’s assertion that Trump has a “strong case” is contrary to reality. Not only does the case fail on legal grounds, it was filed in in the wrong jurisdiction – Florida rather than California – and may be dismissed on that alone. That’s just more proof that this is a charade for profit and that Trump and his lawyers don’t have any real intention of winning.

As for Dershowitz, he is making it hard to believe that he was ever regarded as a constitutional scholar. He began his remarks by portraying the case as “the most important First Amendment case of the 21st century,” when it isn’t actually a First Amendment case at all. For it to be a First Amendment case there would have to be government involvement in suppression of free speech. But Trump’s targets are all private companies. Trump’s lawyers are trying to claim that the social media companies are “government actors,” but that’s an imaginary label with no legal validity.

Where Dershowitz goes off the rails entirely is the nonsense that the “high tech giants” are claiming First Amendment protection to censor Trump. They are not. They have never asserted a First Amendment protection because they aren’t being suppressed by the government. What’s more, they have every right to monitor what appears on their websites. By Dershowitz’s standards, I should be able to force Fox News to give me airtime every night.

Furthermore, they are not “banning freedom of speech.” Trump, as he has said himself, has many opportunities to express himself, some of which he has claimed are superior to the companies he’s suing. “I’m really getting the big word out,” Trump bragged, “because we’re doing releases. And every time I do a release it’s all over the place. It’s more elegant than Twitter.”

Once again, Trump opens his big mouth and undermines his own arguments. In fact, his “releases” are actually undermining the entire premise of his lawsuit. Every time he makes incendiary statements about how the Radical Left Democrats will “further DESTROY our Country,” and that the 2020 presidential election was disgraceful and corrupt and “RIGGED and STOLEN,” he’s affirming the decisions by the social media platforms to remove his violence inciting account. So the more he keeps talking, the better. (Geez, I never thought I’d say that).

And meanwhile…

Crybaby Trump Files Asinine ‘1st Amendment’ Lawsuit Against Twitter, Facebook, and Google

Last week Trump’s spokes shill tweeted that Trump would “make a huge announcement” on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. That day has come and the announcement is living down to the expectations that most people have for the one-term, twice-impeached, former reality TV game show host who is indisputably America’s biggest loser.

Donald Trump, Constitution

From his Bedminster, New Jersey golf resort, Trump delivered a nearly hour long address to reveal his intention to file a lawsuit against “Big Tech” companies, Twitter, Facebook, and Google. Make no mistake, this alleged litigation (there is no evidence yet that it’s been filed) is driven purely by Trump’s voracious ego and thirst for revenge.

After having his accounts on social media suspended for blatant violations of their terms of service, Trump is proposing to exploit the courts to punish the private companies who took responsible actions to stem his inflammatory rhetoric. He already incited a deadly insurrection in Washington, D.C., on January 6th, and he is continuing his bellicose “Big Lie” rants that drove his glassy-eyed disciples to riot and storm the Capitol.

Trump’s tedious dissertation on his pending lawsuit was filled with bizarre and legally preposterous assertions. He starts off describing this suit as the beginning of a much bigger initiative. “We will take this battle,” he promises, “to state legislatures, to Congress, and to the ballot box.” But the whole premise of the action is ludicrous. Trump thinks that Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (which protects free speech) makes social media liable as “government actors” and subject to First Amendment prohibitions against censorship:

“Once they got Section 230 they’re no longer private companies anymore in a lot of views. […] These companies have been coopted, coerced and weaponized by government and by government actors to become the enforcers of illegal, unconstitutional censorship.

Not only is Trump’s interpretation of Section 230 completely off, he is articulating a paranoid, crackpot conspiracy theory that social media companies are in cahoots with the feds to silence him. Like his unhinged raving about election fraud, there is no evidence of these allegations either. But that doesn’t stop him from spouting off incoherently (video below) Some excerpts follow:

“Today, in conjunction with the America First Policy Institute, I’m filing as the lead class representative a major class action lawsuit against the big tech giants, including Facebook, Google, and Twitter, as well as their CEOs Mark Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai, and Jack Dorsey. Three real nice guys. We’re asking the district court for the Southern District of Florida to order an immediate halt to social media companies’ illegal, shameful censorship of the American people. And that’s exactly what they’re doing.

We’re demanding an end to the shadow-banning, a stop to the silencing, a stop to the blacklisting, banishing, and canceling that you know so well. Our case will prove this censorship is unlawful, it’s unconstitutional, and it’s completely un-American. We all know that. We know that very, very well. Our lawsuit also seeks injunctive relief to allow prompt restitution.”

Trump didn’t cite a single legal principle to support his claims. That’s because he can’t. The Constitution’s First Amendment prohibits government censorship. Hence the wording that “Congress shall make no law […] abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press.” Trump actually undermines his case by bragging about all the avenues of speech he has available to him that he insists are successful (they aren’t).

“We’re in a fight, we’re in a fight that we’re going to win. So many people have said to me, ‘Please sir, do something about big tech. Sue them, sir. Sue them.’ And they’ve been saying it to me for a long time. But there has never been a better time to do it. Polling released by Scott Rasmussen, highly respected, shows that nearly two-thirds of Americans believe that big tech companies should be required to abide by the First Amendment guarantee of free speech.”

Trump always has a “sir” story wherein some beleaguered soul begs him to do something that really only benefits Trump. And his reliance on the notoriously disreputable Rasmussen for polling data doesn’t advance his legal interests. Even reputable polls are not legal arguments. Cases are decided by statute and precedent, not popularity.

“Social Media has given extraordinary power to a group of Big Tech Giants that are working with government, the mainstream media, and a large segment of a political party to silence and suppress the views of the American people. And they’ve been very, very successful at that. Not in all cases, but in many cases totally successful.”

This is more conspiracy mongering that now includes a cabal comprised of the government, tech companies, the media, and Democrats. If you ask him, Trump would probably add academia, banking, the judiciary, liberal churches, and the Girl Scouts of America.

Following his prepared, TelePrompTer remarks, Trump took questions from what was obviously an exclusive club of ultra-conservative media. Every question was framed positively for Trump, or prefaced with adoring commentary. That’s just more proof that Trump can’t be taken seriously that he cares about a free press. Which, you recall, he has repeatedly maligned in Stalinist terms as “the enemy of the People.”

It’s impossible to set aside Trump’s flaming hypocrisy in all of this. After all, he’s the first one to “cancel” anyone who dares to contradict him. He is the undisputed King of Cancel Culture. He has called for dozens of boycotts of American companies. He even expressed his regret that he didn’t ban Facebook and Twitter when he mistakenly thought he could have as president. And now his buddy, Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, is pushing a state law that would make it illegal for private companies to monitor their own website comments.

It’s from that perch of police state prohibition that Trump is heralding his campaign for free speech. So not only is Trump on swampy ground legally, he’s up to both of his chins in hypocrisy. This lawsuit, if it is ever actually filed, is going nowhere in hurry, according to most legal experts.

However, let’s hope that this suit isn’t dismissed before the defendants can conduct discovery. There is a wealth of information that can be acquired regarding Trump’s activities prior to, and during the insurrection, his relationships with right-wing media (Fox News, Newsmax, OAN, etc.), and efforts to unlawfully damage the commercial interests of private companies against whom he holds grudges. That should be fun.

UPDATE: It’s All About the Grift! David Corn of Mother Jones spells out the latest con.

“In typical Trumpian fashion, the cases were amateurishly cobbled together, with arguments and contentions that legal experts immediately derided. […] Trump has a long history of both threatening suits that never materialize and filing bogus cases that go nowhere.” […]

“Other than ginning up the Big Lie believers, there is another strong reason for Trump to proceed with this case: money. Lots of money. No sooner had Trump’s lawyers filed when his grift-machine kicked into action. A text message was sent to Trump supporters hitting them up for donations. “President Trump is filing a LAWSUIT against Facebook and Twitter for UNFAIR CENSORSHIP!” it proclaimed.”

Twitter Must Stop Letting Trump Flout Ban By Allowing His Flunkies to Tweet for Him

It has been six months since Donald Trump was banished from Twitter due to his reckless and relentless lies about election fraud. Twitter imposed the ban on January 8th, two days after Trump’s deadly insurrection on Capitol Hill, saying that “we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”

Donald Trump, Twitter

In the six months since his suspension Trump has actually escalated his reckless rhetoric. He continues to make purposefully inflammatory comments online and at his cult rallies (where he sometimes does himself more harm than good). These remarks serve to encourage his glassy-eyed disciples to “stand by” for his prophesized political resurrection.

Trump has managed to maintain an online presence despite his exile from social media sites such as Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook. Although much of it has demonstrated his infamous capacity for failure. For instance, his attempt to launch an online blog was shut down in less than a month. And GETTR, the new alt-Twitter by his former aide, Jason Miller, is off to a less than impressive start.

However, none of that has deterred the Trump camp from pursuing his aspirations of messianic tyranny. And Twitter is helping them to advance that nightmarish goal.

In lieu of tweeting, Trump has been putting out press releases with the same lie-filled histrionics that are identical to what he used to tweet. And those messages are being disseminated to the Twitter-verse by ultra-rightist pseudo media sites like Breitbart and Right Side Broadcasting Network (RSBN).

More troubling are the posts by Trump’s official spokesperson, Liz Harrington. Her Twitter account is rife with reposts of Trump’s press releases. In two days she tweeted his ravings at least ten times. They included promotional notices for Trump’s cult rallies, along with such dishonest and maniacal missives as…

Harrington is posting these incendiary outbursts despite Twitter’s stated policy of prohibiting anyone from attempting to circumvent a suspension. Harrington, RSBN, and others are in flagrant violation of Twitter policies that call for suspension of the violator. Twitter needs to enforce their rules without prejudice or preference. Otherwise the rules are meaningless. And in Trump’s case, potentially dangerous.

On the plus side, Harrington. like most Trump sycophants, isn’t particularly gifted with respect to smarts. One of her tweets linked to an article that she casually skimmed and reposted because it referenced the attendance at Trump’s Sarasota cult rally. What she apparently didn’t notice was that it’s lede also explicitly refuted Trump’s “Big Lie,” saying that “There has been no evidence of widespread voter fraud that would have affected the outcome of the election.”

GETTR? Trump’s New Social Media Platform is Quickly Becoming a Humiliating Flop

Three months ago the projected return of Donald Trump to the Internet was announced by his spokesperson, Jason Miller. That set the stage for the former Narcissist-in-Chief to reprise his role as America’s Biggest Loser. And now, after nearly six months of exile, there are signs that Trump is closer to resuming his petulant trolling, annoying whining, and relentless lying.

Donald Trump, GETTR

Back in March Trump launched what he said was his new “social media platform.” But true to form, it was a dismal failure that he shut down in less than a month. Now Trump’s new alt-Twitter project has been dubbed GETTR, a name that is a cringeworthy nod to his years of sexually abusive behavior (i.e. GETTR by the pussy). He might have just called the site PREDATTR. Or he could have gone another way with TRAITTR to highlight his leadership of the insurrection and other anti-American attacks on democracy. The site itself is a shameless ripoff of Twitter. Politico is reporting that:

“The platform, called GETTR, advertised its mission statement as ‘fighting cancel culture, promoting common sense, defending free speech, challenging social media monopolies, and creating a true marketplace of ideas.'”

Rest assured that Trump and his confederates at GETTR have no intention of providing a “true marketplace of ideas.” In fact, they have always proven to be the real perpetrators of “cancel culture,” incapable of grasping common sense, and the enemies of free speech. What’s more, the marketplace that Trump is entering into is already populated by his addled allies Dan Bongino (Parler), and pillow guy, Mike Lindell (FrankSpeech).

The GETTR app is available now from the Apple and Google stores. It’s been downloaded a whopping one thousand times from each store. For the record, Twitter currently has 69 million users in the U.S. alone. And GETTR is being pitched with a tag line that was obviously written by someone who doesn’t speak English. It says that…

“GETTR is a non-bias social network for people all over the world. GETTR tried the best to provide best software quality to the users, allow anyone to express their opinion freely.”

So what’s the prognosis for GETTR? Who knows? What we do know is that Trump’s prior businesses have suffered at least six bankruptcies. His “university” was shuttered due to fraud and corruption, and was ordered to pay restitution exceeding $25 million. His private jet is in mothballs His hotels and golf courses are bleeding in debt. And he’s being pursued by prosecutors from Washington, New York, Florida, and Georgia.

And one more thing. Checking on GETTR this morning revealed this…

Donald Trump, GETTR, Suspended

UPDATE: The Daily Beast is reporting that GETTR is: “A new social media network led by Donald Trump adviser Jason Miller is backed by a fugitive Chinese billionaire who once invited Steve Bannon to live on his yacht.” Good to know.

Trump Delusionally Brags About His Social Media – That Has Cratered Since He Got Banned

The mental meltdown of Donald Trump is continuing – even accelerating – seven months after Joe Biden beat him by more than seven million votes. In all that time Trump has never conceded defeat. But he has incited a violent insurrection and promoted numerous “fraudits” of election results that were already validated by every state election official, Democratic and Republican.

Donald Trump

Trump’s relentless and inflammatory promulgation of the “Big Lie” is what got him banned by Twitter and Facebook. That exile from social media has had a noticeably negative effect on Trump, both emotionally and materially. But true to form, Trump refuses to accept reality. On Tuesday he released a statement that illustrates just how badly demented he has become. It said that…

“Trump’s message can reach social media audiences comparable in size to those he commanded while still on Twitter and Facebook, a New York Times analysis published Monday found. In fact, the outlet found 11 of the 89 statements Trump has published online since he was banned from mainstream social media sites have attracted ‘as many likes or shares as the median post before the ban, if not more.'”

First of all, Trump is quoting, without attribution, an excerpt from an article in Forbes Magazine that was reporting on an analysis by the New York Times.

However, it’s apparent that Trump doesn’t have the comprehension skills to understand the meaning of the quote he posted. His own excerpt notes that only 11 of his 89 post-banning statements – or 12.4% -had received comparable attention. Which means that 87.6% failed to hit that threshold. And he’s bragging about that? A more complete, in context quote would have included this…

“Before the ban, the social media post with the median engagement generated 272,000 likes and shares. After the ban, that dropped to 36,000 likes and shares. Yet 11 of his 89 statements after the ban attracted as many likes or shares as the median post before the ban, if not more.”

So over all, Trump’s social media engagement declined 86% after his banning. More importantly, online misinformation about election fraud plunged 73% sans Trump. The Times analysis also looked at his 10 most popular posts with election misinformation before and after the social media bans. “Before the ban,” the Times found, “Trump’s posts garnered 22.1 million likes and shares; after the ban, his posts earned 1.3 million likes and shares across Twitter and Facebook.”

What’s more, the article noted that much of the engagement he currently receives is coming from postings of his statements by right-wing media like Breitbart and Fox News, as well as members of his cult following and his family. But those cannot be counted as new sources of engagement because they were doing the same same thing before he was banned.

Trump has posted several statements claiming that he is happy being ousted from the social media world and that he’s better off for it. But he was certainly upset with it when it happened. He called it an “insult” and “abuse” and and cried that “they shouldn’t be allowed to get away” with it. He was so distraught that he lamented that the didn’t shut down Facebook and Twitter when he was still in office. And he predicted that the social media titans would fail without him.

In the meantime, Trump did proclaim that he would return to social media with his own website that would far surpass Facebook and twitter. But his sorry excuse for a “communications platform” shut down after than less than a month due to low traffic and his embarrassment at being mocked for yet another failure.

Trump’s inability to grasp numbers has been exposed previously by his business failures. There aren’t many people who have had four casinos go bankrupt. He repeatedly misreports easily verifiable numbers for events like his poorly attended inauguration. More recently he lied about “thousands and thousands of boats” showing up to pay him tribute, when the video showed that there were at best a couple of dozen. And he also claimed, without any evidence at all, that Massive numbers of dead people ‘voted’” for him in 2020, “far greater than anyone has known or seen before.”

Let’s face it, whatever part of Trump’s brain handles numerical information is acutely defective. And along with his pathological compulsion to lie about everything, the only thing we can rely on from Trump with any confidence is unadulterated bullpucky. And that’s exactly what we’ve been getting.
