Judge Cites Tucker Carlson as Validation of ‘Actual Malice’ in Defamation Suit Against Fox News

Ever since Donald Trump decisively lost the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden, he and his confederacy of lunkheads have been asserting the “Big Lie” that millions of votes were switched, manufactured, deleted, or otherwise tampered with in order to deny Trump the victory that only resides in his diseased brain. He had over a year and more than sixty court cases to produce the proof of the conspiracy he alleged, but failed entirely to do so.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson

Trump’s partners in this charade included much of the right-wing mediaverse, most prominently Fox News. And as a result, Fox News was named in a pair of multi-billion dollar defamation lawsuits, one by Dominion Voting Systems, and one by Smartmatic. that they accused of “stealing” the election from Trump.

This week a judge hearing the Smartmatic case declined to grant a motion by Fox News to dismiss it. It was a serious blow to Fox that leaves the propaganda outlet in deep legal jeopardy. But part of the judge’s reasoning for allowing the case to proceed must be profoundly embarrassing to Fox. According to the Washington Post

“The ruling repeatedly says Fox hosts, [Rudy] Giuliani and [Sydney] Powell made claims ‘without any evidence’ and ‘without any basis.’ It also says that claims made by Giuliani, Fox host Maria Bartiromo and now-former Fox Business host Lou Dobbs could meet the legal standard of claims being ‘so inherently improbable that only a reckless person would have put [them] in circulation.‘ […]

“In the course of laying out the legal requirements for Smartmatic to prove its case, the judge noted that the company must prove Fox met the standard of acting with ‘actual malice’ — i.e. not merely promoting false claims, but doing so with malice. And on that count, the judge says the best evidence that it did is Carlson.

That’s right! Tucker Carlson is Smartmatics’s best witness to certify that Fox News behaved with “actual malice” to defame the company. The judge’s ruling elaborated, saying that…

“Ironically, the statements of Tucker Carlson, perhaps the most popular Fox News host, militate most strongly in favor of a possible finding that there is a substantial basis that Fox News acted with actual malice.”

RELATED: Hillary Clinton also warned Fox News that They’re getting awfully close to actual malice in their attacks.”

The judge also wrote that because “Powell never provided the evidence requested by Carlson, and President Trump’s campaign advised Carlson that it knew of no such evidence [that] Fox News knew, or should have known” that the allegations were false.

What the judge was referring to was a commentary that Carlson delivered last November on his program wherein he described an interaction he had with former Trump lawyer Sydney Powell. He outlined her preposterous and utterly baseless allegations of voting machine tampering that, the disclosure of which, she said would be “biblical.” And despite her lack of any evidence, Carlson pointedly declared that he didn’t dismiss any of it. Because why would a shameless sham monger like Carlson care about evidence?

Nevertheless, he did ask her to present whatever evidence she had. She not only refused to do so, she got angry at him and told him to stop contacting her. But his having asked is what serves as the basis for the lawsuit meeting the “actual malice” standard. So Carlson isn’t validating the claim of defamation because he was caught lying, as one might expect. His validation is in the fact that he actually demonstrated that the election lies told on Fox News were deliberate and malicious.

In other words, Carlson is being cited in court as the truthteller on Fox who exposed his colleagues as defamers. How karmically perfect, albeit bizarre, is that?

Trump’s WH Press Secretary, Stephanie Grisham, Reveals He Envied Putin’s Ability to Kill Critics

The well documented evidence of Donald Trump’s seething sociopathy just got bolstered by one of his closest advisors. Trump’s former press secretary, Stephanie Grisham, worked for him starting with his 2016 campaign, and was promoted throughout his occupancy of the White House, eventually to communications director. She was a close and trusted confidant with intimate access to all of Trump’s activities.

Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin

However, since Trump’s electoral loss in 2020, Grisham has reappraised her service to the twice-impeached megalomaniac. Her deliverance from the Cult of Trump began when she witnessed his real-time response to the January 6th insurrection, which was unbridled glee. Last year she published a tell-all book about her experiences in the cult.

Grisham remains a staunch critic of Trump, and says she is now “terrified” by the prospect of him running for president again. She isn’t alone. She appeared on ABC’s “The View” Wednesday with some additional reasons to be afraid of Trump’s continuing aspirations for power. She spoke specifically of Trump’s infatuation with brutal tyrants in general, and Vladimir Putin in particular:

“He really admired Putin. And I saw that first hand. I saw him say to Putin, ‘Hey, I’m gonna be tough on you in front of the cameras, you understand? And once the cameras are gone we’ll have a real conversation.'”

Grisham elaborated saying that Trump “was afraid of” Putin, and also that “he admired him greatly:”

“I think that he wanted to be able to kill whoever spoke out against him. […] He loved the dictators. He loved the people who could kill anyone, including the press.

Grisham isn’t the only one to reveal Trump’s craving to assassinate journalists. Trump said so himself during a summit with Putin. After expressing his desire to “get rid of” those pesky reporters, Trump engaged in this exchange with with his BFF:

Trump: Fake … fake news. Great term, isn’t it? You don’t have that problem in Russia. We have it. You don’t have it.
Putin: Yes, yes. We also have. It’s the same.

Trump was obviously envious of what he thought was Putin’s freedom from having to deal with a free press. But Putin’s correction needs a little context. The only reason reason he doesn’t have the same problem with reporters in Russia is because he has any who are critical of him killed. Which is what Trump is so clearly jealous of. He wants unflinching devotion from everyone. And that includes the American people. He once articulated his wish that Americans would worship him like North Koreans worship Kim Jong Un.

It’s astonishing that, with all the documentation of Trump’s diseased mentality and malignant narcissism, that anyone could still support him. But that’s the nature of a cult. And his followers are fully indoctrinated. Which makes them imminently dangerous. They are also outnumbered by decent and sane citizens. We just need to be certain that they remain engaged and turn out to vote. The alternative is unthinkable.

Biden Brilliantly Debunks the Lies By Trump and Fox News About Energy Production in America

The old maxim that the “the first casualty of war is truth” has been wretchedly demonstrated by anti-American right-wingers since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Donald Trump has proved that he is both a liar and an idiot on this (or any) subject. And Fox News continues to politicize the slaughter of innocents for their own partisan purposes.

Click here to Tweet this article

Joe Biden, Donald Trump Baby, Fake News

Meanwhile, President Biden is fulfilling his role as an American leader who cherishes the principles of democracy and liberty worldwide. His support for Ukraine has been forthright and unwavering. Unfortunately, he is burdened with having to educate Republican cretins who embrace Vladimir Putin and distort reality to advance their political self-interests.

In an address to the American people on Tuesday morning, Biden announced that the U.S. would cease to purchase Russian oil. That’s a move that has had bipartisan support in Congress. But he still had to debunk the lies that the right has been telling about oil production in the U.S. Which he did succinctly and, unlike the right, factually (video below):

“It’s simply not true that my administration or policies are holding back domestic energy production. That’s simply not true. Even amid the pandemic, companies in the United States pumped more oil during my first year in office than they did during my predecessor’s first year. We’re approaching record levels of oil and gas production in the United States, and we’re on track to set a record of oil production next year.

“In the United States, 90 percent of onshore oil production takes place on land that isn’t owned by the federal government. And of the remaining 10 percent that occurs on federal land, the oil and gas industry has millions of acres leased. They have 9,000 permits to drill now. They could be drilling right now, yesterday, last week, last year. They have 9,000 to drill onshore that are already approved. Let me be clear. They are not using them for production now. That’s their decision, These are the facts.”

These are facts that are already known to the GOP. They just don’t care about the truth because honesty hampers their political goals. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki made these same points on Monday in a detailed, multi-part tweet. She also schooled Fox News hack Peter Doocy, who appeared utterly incapable of grasping the lesson:

Fox News, of course, is committed to lying about this. Following Biden’s remarks Fox’s David Asman complained that Biden “was making the same misstatement that Jen Psaki did, saying that we have the highest oil production ever, [and that] we are not producing as much oil as we could.” Except that neither Biden nor Psaki said that. What they said is that is that oil production is at a very high level, comparable to the past, and that the only we reason we aren’t producing more is that the oil companies are sitting on unused leases. Perhaps because they want to limit supply in order to boost prices.

Not to be left out, Trump had his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill post an all-caps, ego drenched tweet saying “BREAKING NEWS: HIGHEST GAS PRICES IN HISTORY! DO YOU MISS ME YET?”

As usual, Trump is purposefully misleading. For the record, “The average cost of a gallon of regular fuel is now $4.173, according to AAA. That’s the highest ever recorded, not accounting for inflation, surpassing the $4.114 high-water mark set in the summer of 2008. (That would be about $5.37 in today’s dollars.)”

What’s more, the vast majority of the American people (83%) support Biden’s sanctions on Russia, including most Republicans (80%). And more than two-thirds (69%) would still support the sanctions if they result in higher energy prices. That also includes almost 6 in 10 Republicans.

[UPDATE: Trump released another tweet babbling that “most of Europe won’t go along with the United States in boycotting Russian oil and gas.” He goes on to complain about the “Fake News” and Europe taking advantage of us. But he’s only proving that he doesn’t understand the pressures on Europe, that is more dependent on foreign oil. Trump also doesn’t understand the leadership that Biden is demonstrating by being an example for the rest of the world, who may join the Russian oil boycott as a result. He is just whining and, as usual, has no solutions.]

In Biden’s remarks he also noted that “the United States produces more oil domestically than all the European countries combined.” And he admonished the oil companies to refrain from exploiting the current crisis to gouge consumers. Then he closed with this bit of insightful advice for the future:

“Loosening environmental regulations and pulling back clean energy investment will not lower energy prices for families. But transforming our economy to run on electric vehicles powered by clean energy with tax credits to help American families winterize their homes and use less energy, that will help. And if we can, if we do what we can, it’ll mean that no one has to worry about the price of the gas pump in the future.

“That will mean tyrants like Putin won’t be able to use fossil fuels as weapons against other nations. And it will make America a world leader in manufacturing and exporting clean energy technology in the future to countries all around the world.”

Bill Barr’s Utterly Ridiculous, Anti-American Reason for Why He Would Still Vote for Trump

Donald Trump’s Former Attorney Genuflect, Bill Barr, is currently making the media rounds to peddle his new book about his disservice to America as the chief Trump-fluffer of the Justice Department. So far it’s been a vain spectacle aimed at rehabilitating his hopelessly stained reputation as a partisan hack.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump, Bill Barr

Barr’s efforts to further muddy the historical record include some rather preposterous assertions such as claiming that “The media chose to weave a narrative that I was a toady to the president.” That wasn’t so much weaving a narrative as it was factual reporting.

However, Barr also had some more accurate comments about his former boss. For instance, he described Trump as having “obnoxious personal characteristics.” And he told a story about how administration insiders joked that all you had to do to distract Trump when he was wigging out “was mention Russiagate” and Trump would “take it and run for quite a while. … He’d rant and he wouldn’t remember what he was angry about.”

When the subject of the January 6th insurrection came up, Barr waffled saying that he believes Trump is morally responsible, but isn’t legally culpable. Nevertheless, despite conceding that Trump was lying about the 2020 election, and that his actions at least contributed to the deadly riots on Capitol Hill, Barr remains loyal to Trump and supportive of his future political aspirations:

Barr: Because I believe the greatest threat to the country is the progressive agenda being pushed by Democratic Party, it’s inconceivable to me I wouldn’t vote for the Republican nominee.
Guthrie: Even if he lied about the election and threatened democracy as you write in your book, it’s better than a Democrat?
Barr: It’s hard to project what the facts are gonna turn out to be three years hence. But as of now, it’s hard for me to conceive that I wouldn’t vote for the Republican nominee.

So Barr thinks that Democrats are are “the greatest threat to the country”? Greater than violent mobs attacking the United States Congress? Greater than undermining democracy itself? Greater than Russia interfering in elections? Greater than Republicans suppressing the votes of Americans? Greater than a president who subjugates himself to foreign dictators? And for that matter, greater than an economic collapse, a deadly pandemic, or environmental destruction?

Does Barr really think that the Democratic agenda of fair taxation, more jobs and higher wagers, greater access to healthcare, expanding education, and preserving the environment, are the greatest threats to America? Well, yes, he does!

In response to Barr’s PR parade, Trump posted a rambling, incoherent, three page harangue on Twitter. And when he wasn’t flagrantly lying about nonexistent election fraud (or as Barr called it, “bullshit”), he was castigating Barr as “lazy and cowardly, he just never quite understood what was going on.” Trump also claimed that “I realized early on that he never had what it takes.” But he left him in place anyway? It’s interesting how so many of Trump’s appointees turned out to be, in Trump’s opinion, incompetent idiots from the very start.

That post was just one of eleven desperation tweets about Barr posted by Trump’s Twitter ban defying spokes-shill on Sunday. The sheer quantity reveals that this is something that is consuming Trump’s pitifully constrained cognitive capacity. But it’s not the first time that Trump has gone off on Barr. If there is one thing that Trump is consistent about, it’s lashing out petulantly at any of his former lackeys who failed to remain unflinchingly worshipful. In Trump’s cult it is simply verboten to express anything less than total adoration, now and forever.

Dumb@ss Trump Tweets Articles He Thinks Exonerate Him, But That Actually Affirm His Guilt

Proving the point that it is impossible to underestimate the intelligence of Donald Trump, the former reality TV game show host, and twice-impeached occupier of the White House, had his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill post a couple of tweets that illustrate how painfully stupid he is.

Donald Trump Circling the Drain

While the rest of the world is focused on the human tragedy of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine by Trump’s BFF Vladimir Putin – a murderous war criminal with whom Trump is still hopelessly infatuated – Trump is, as usual, fixated on himself and his own personal legal problems. He has hardly said a word about Ukraine, probably because he has no friggin’ idea what to do about it. So instead, he persists in ranting repeatedly about the nonexistent voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election and the civil and criminal investigations into his countless crimes.

On Sunday morning Trump released statements with links to articles that he apparently thinks absolve him of liability for the financial corruption of his failing real estate enterprise. But he totally misunderstood what he read, or more likely, had read to him. Both articles dealt with the recent resignation of two prosecutors from the office of the New York County District Attorney. And both contain extensive affirmation of Trump’s guilt. To be sure, the resignations were a disappointment to people who want to see Trump held to account for his wrongdoing. But Trump’s take on the matter is pitifully mistaken.

In the first tweet Trump linked to a Daily Mail article about the DA’s reluctance to file an indictment. But what Trump ignored in the article is that the prosecutors who resigned did so to “disassociate” from the decision because “it was on the wrong side of history.” Furthermore, the article notes that, despite the resignations, “The investigation is ongoing.” So it is hardly a vindication.

In the second tweet Trump gloms on to a question in the New York Times article asking “Which laws had Mr. Trump broken?” He answers it himself saying “The crime of … making his lenders ‘more’ money.” Then he calls the probe “Sick!” However, his crime has nothing to do with whether the banks he defrauded made any profit. It has to do with the fact that he committed fraud in order to secure the loans. The prosecutor described it as “a righteous case that ought to be brought.” Trump’s tweet quoted from the article…

“For months, the prosecutors had envisioned charging Mr. Trump — and possibly Mr. Weisselberg and the Trump Organization — with the crime of ‘scheming to defraud’ for falsely inflating his assets on the statements of financial condition that had been used to obtain bank loans.

“But by the end of the year, the prosecutors had switched gears, in part because Mr. Trump’s lenders had not lost money on the loans but had in fact profited from them. The new strategy was to charge Mr. Trump with conspiracy and falsifying business records — specifically his financial statements — a simpler case that essentially amounted to painting Mr. Trump as a liar rather than a thief.”

Apparently Trump thinks that being charged with lying rather than stealing is some kind of exoneration. But he’s even got that wrong. Let’s look at what the article is saying. The DA’s charge changed from “‘scheming to defraud’ for falsely inflating his assets,” to “conspiracy and falsifying business records.” That’s a distinction without a difference. Or very little difference. And both are serious felonies for both lying and stealing.

So Trump is celebrating these articles that unambiguously affirm that he’s guilty of fraud and/or conspiracy to commit fraud. This is further evidence of his staggering stupidity. Yet he is so shamelessly boasting about this imaginary absolution that he’s forgotten that he is still under investigation by this DA in Manhattan, as well as the New York Attorney General, the U.S. Attorney in D.C., and the District Attorney of Fulton County, Georgia. That’s a pretty sorry statement about both his legal and mental condition.

Jon Stewart Wants to Know How Fox News Can Put a Sh**head Like Tucker Carlson on TV Every Night

Times are getting harder for the depraved purveyors of propaganda at Fox News. For months they have been literally rooting for the U.S. economy to take a dive. And the escalating catastrophe in Ukraine is exposing the fervent anti-American and brazenly pro-Putin attitudes of Fox’s most pompous pundits.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Bullshit Factory

Unfortunately for Fox News, the economy hasn’t cooperated with their doomsday dreams. President Biden continues to preside over the strongest economic recovery in decades. And even diehard disinformation disseminators like Tucker Carlson have had to chill their Russian cheering as Putin’s war crimes become ever more evident. And with the worst of the COVID crisis appearing to wane, the pandemic deniers at Fox are running out of apocalypse stories to shove down the throats of their viewers.

That, however, hasn’t deterred Fox from ramping up their efforts to sow discord, fear, and heinous lies intended to rile up the ranks of the deplorables. It’s just made their efforts more preposterous. Among those who have noticed this descent into the depths of depravity is comedian Jon Stewart. In an episode of the “Sway” podcast for the New York Times, Stewart posed some serious questions for Fox News founder Rupert Murdoch. And it’s especially fitting that a comedian like Stewart is expressing himself at a time when a former comedian in Ukraine – President Volodymyr Zelenskyy – is demonstrating uncommon courage.

Jon Stewart began by pointedly asking why Murdoch was “trying to destroy the fabric of this country.” Then, noting the brick wall obstructionism of the Republican Party, Stewart observed that “for years it’s been pretty clear that they would much rather do a deal with Putin than Pelosi.” But Stewart was just getting started. He went on to question Murdoch’s motivation for foisting noxious provocateurs like Tucker Carlson on the public:

“I don’t know if it’s ideological or he just thinks, this is where the money is. But how somebody can in good conscience put a shithead like that on television every night to say those types of things? That’s where the responsibility lies in my mind.”

Stewart’s questions actually answer themselves with “all of the above.” For Murdoch it is very definitely ideological. He has been an ultra-right extremist for the whole of his adult life. And he has pushed his views on the most naïve in the TV flock via his media empire on at least three continents. Simultaneously, he has packaged his rancid conservatism to an undiscerning audience whose ignorance he both creates and exploits financially.

Finally, Murdoch, it is clear, has no conscience. So promoting a despicable cretin like Carlson doesn’t bother him a bit. Even though Carlson, as Stewart points out, is an admitted liar. Here he is admitting it…

“I lie if I’m really cornered or something. I lie. I really try not to. I try never to lie on TV. I just don’t — I don’t like lying. I certainly do it, you know, out of weakness or whatever.”

Carlson “tries” not to lie on TV? He obviously isn’t trying very hard, because he does every night. Repeatedly. In fact, Carlson so notorious for his dishonesty that Fox News used it as a defense against defamation. They actually argued in court – successfully – that “given Mr. Carlson’s reputation, any reasonable viewer ‘arrive[s] with an appropriate amount of skepticism’ about the statements he makes.”

In other words, Carlson is a known liar whose commentaries can be dismissed out of hand as the ravings of an unhinged “shithead,” as Stewart so poignantly put it. And yet, Carlson’s viewers still cling to his every lie. so what does that make them?

When a Fox News Shill Finally Admits He’s Wrong, but Still Blames it on the the Black VP

Leave it to Fox News to find a way to absolve itself of all guilt for monumental mistakes that they actually admit to having made. That’s what Tucker Carlson managed to do on the Thursday night episode of his notoriously wrong program when he conceded that he misjudged the magnitude of the catastrophe in Ukraine.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News Commies

Carlson has been wrong about virtually everything he’s said about Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, a nation whose citizens are being slaughtered or forced to become refugees. From the start Carlson has embraced Vladimir Putin and even argued against sanctions or any effort to depose him.

However, now the news from Ukraine has gotten even more grim. More than a million Ukrainians have fled the country, and Putin’s forces are attacking a nuclear power plant. In light of this, Carlson is trying to walk back his prior support for Russia (video below) by pretending to take the matter more seriously. He has finally conceded that Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has produced a catastrophe that is “spinning out of control” and …

“That, we must be honest, is shocking to us. We’ve been taken by surprise by the whole thing. We’re not the only ones who were. But we’re willing to admit it. The only think more embarrassing in being wrong in your estimates is pretending that you weren’t.”

Carlson’s contention that he “must be honest” would be a first for him. But at least he appears to be taking some responsibility for his grossly flawed analyses in the recent past. Although there is something that is even more embarrassing than pretending you weren’t wrong. That’s pretending that somebody else was responsible for your being wrong. Which is what Carlson did…

“So why didn’t we see this coming, this total loss of control? Well, because we assumed that if things were dire, serious people would be involved in fixing them. But we looked up and we saw Kamala Harris involved and that reassured us.

“Harris had just come back from Europe where she’d been conducting diplomacy with our allies, and that appeared to be proof that this could not really be a big deal. If the situation in Ukraine had been legitimately serious, if the future of Europe and the world hung in the balance, as now so obviously it does, of course the Biden administration would not have sent Kamala Harris to fix it. Cause that’s not her job.”

So it wasn’t Carlson’s fault at all that he was wrong. It was just because he relied on his own ludicrous appraisal of Harris as being an irrelevant fixture in the White House. Harris, of course, is the Vice-President of the United States, a former U.S. senator, and former California Attorney General. And she and Biden were right all along in predicting that Putin would invade. But Carlson, wearing his smug sarcasm face, sought to belittle the VP’s duties. In his warped perspective…

“Kamala Harris’ job is to trot down to the blue room periodically to greet delegations of Tik Tok influencers, or cut PSAs for dental health care awareness month, which is in February, so we assumed she’d be working on that right now. But averting war with Russia? Saving the civilize world? Come on. That’s absolutely no Kamala Harris’ job.”

It is absolutely not Tucker Carlson’s job to define what Kamala Harris’ job is. That is President Biden’s job. And many presidents have given important assignments to their vice-presidents. Trump, you may recall, made Mike Pence his White House Commander of the Space Force. As for Carlson, his job is to spread ignorance, lies, propaganda, and racism on behalf a former reality TV game show host (Donald Trump) and a foreign born, ultra-rightist media magnate (Rupert Murdoch). But by his own admission, Carlson made assumptions that led to his admittedly erroneous analysis of the Ukraine situation…

“That was our assumption. But, as noted, we were wrong. Why were we wrong? Well, we spend a lot of time watching Kamala Harris. You probably don’t. Unless you are a junior producer at MSNBC, you’re probably not that familiar with Kamala Harris. We should say, by the way, that we didn’t underestimate Vladimir Putin, we overestimated Joe Biden.”

Now, in addition to Carlson blaming his own cognitive failures on the Black woman VP, he is implying that his viewers are too stupid to know anything about her. Well, as he said earlier, he “must be honest,” and this time he is. At least with respect to his assessment of the intelligence of his audience.

It’s fitting that Carlson closed by taking another swipe at Biden and planting another wet kiss on his hero, Vladimir. The blatantly unpatriotic stance taken by Carlson, and his confederates at Fox News, is the most consistent feature of Fox and the Republican Party for whom it is the PR machine.

It’s just too bad that such toxic anti-Americanism continues to be disseminated by greedy television distributors. They recently saw the light and ditched the RT (Russia Today) channel because of its ties to, and support for Russia. They would do well now to cancel the primary source of Russian propaganda in America, Fox News.

Fox News Senior Putin Apologist, Tucker Carlson, Pleads to Keep the Russian Dictator in Power

As the situation in Ukraine grows more dire every day, Fox News grows more diarrheal, excreting vast quantities of waste matter that only matters to the deluded deplorables who are glued to the network’s lies and propaganda. And leading the discharge is Fox’s top rated Tucker Carlson, who has distinguished himself of late as Russia’s favorite American turncoat.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Tucker Carlson

In recent weeks Carlson has itemized his reasons for why nobody should hate Vladimir Putin, even as Putin leads Russia’s murderous rampage in Ukraine. Carlson is articulating precisely the same opinion that Donald Trump has of Putin. And they both have the same infatuation with Donald Trump.

Carlson briefly tried to moderate his Putin lust. But it was such an awkward feat of hypocrisy that he couldn’t sustain it for more than a day or two. So now Carlson is back to drooling adoringly and defending Putin. On his Wednesday night program he delivered a dialogue opposing the sanctions that the U.S. and most of the free world are imposing on Russia. And if that weren’t bad enough, Carlson also made a plaintive plea on behalf of Putin keeping his job as Russia’s top totalitarian tyrant.

Carlson began by asserting that he would withhold judgment on whether the course of action taken by the NATO alliance was a wise course. Which was followed by him unleashing the judgment he just finished saying he would withhold. He sarcastically whined that reflecting on moral implications, or thinking about your own country is a crime, and even treasonous. Then Carlson dived into one of favorite pastimes, asking asinine rhetorical questions:

“What’s the point of all of this? Putin is bad. No one in America is gonna argue with that [except Carlson, Trump and other right-wingers already have]. But will destroying the entire Russian economy make Putin less bad? Will it make Russian troops withdraw from Ukraine? And if it will, how exactly will that work, and how long will it take?

Or is the plan even bigger than that? If they did, we can force Vladimir Putin from office entirely. Okay. Will that work? And if it does work, what happens to Russia after Vladimir Putin leaves? Would the next Russian president be an improvement over Putin?”

So Carlson, with his BA in history and no experience in diplomacy, is against the stiff sanctions that the rest of the world’s most knowledgeable foreign policy experts think are necessary and effective. That’s so considerate of him to be worried about his Russian oligarch pals, rather than the people of Ukraine who are being slaughtered and forced to leave their homeland as refugees.

Even worse, Carlson is arguing that Putin should be allowed to remain in power because his successor could be worse. Do you suppose that Carlson would have used the same argument for keeping Hitler in power? Apparently he believes that all of the world’s monstrous leaders should be left to commit whatever crimes against humanity they like.

Obviously that doctrine is pure idiocy. If there is a genocidal madman running a nation and attacking other nations, he needs to be constrained and, if necessary, removed from power. You worry about his successor, who under the circumstance is likely to be more moderate or suffer the same fate, after you excise the immediate problem. Unless, that is, you are Tucker Carlson and you have a fuehrer fetish. Which is, by the way, what draws him to Trump.

In Flaming Fox News Fiasco Trump Proves He Has No Friggin’ Idea What To Do About Ukraine

On the morning after President Biden delivered the first State of the Union address in years that was intelligent, coherent, compassionate, and free of maniacal rage, Donald Trump staged another of his pajama-clad call-ins to Fox News from his Mar-a-Lago bedroom. This time his (my)pillow talk was with the Senior Fox News Trump-Fluffer, Maria Bartiromo on the Fox Business Network.

Donald Trump, Fox News

The Interview was filled with Trump’s typical spasms of self-exaltation and infantile insults directed at anyone who hasn’t been sufficiently worshipful. And considering the prominence of Russia’s horrendous invasion of Ukraine in the news, Bartiromo sought to give Trump an opportunity to express his “insights.” Although she never bothered to acknowledge his prior tributes to his hero, Vladimir Putin, she did ask about the conflict and the consequences for the NATO alliance.

Trump’s first thought on the subject was to lie that “There wouldn’t have been a NATO if I hadn’t been president.” Which is peculiar considering that he frequently disparaged it as “obsolete” and sought to withdraw from it. His efforts to weaken NATO were actually the fuel for Putin’s imperialistic aggression against Ukraine. But he then went even farther down the rabid hole in this exchange (video below):

Bartiromo: President Zelenskyy is being hailed as the modern Winston Churchill. I know you’ve met him. What does Zelenskyy need to do right now – and you say we’ve gone wrong on Ukraine – what is the most important move that this administration needs to be making to stop this fighting in Ukraine?
Trump: Well, I like President Zelenskyy for another reason, cause he was very honest.

Whereupon, Trump, totally ignoring the question, embarked on an extended rant, lying about Zelenskyy absolving him of any wrongdoing during the infamous “perfect” phone call. The call where Trump tried to extort Zelenskyy into fabricating dirt on then-candidate Joe Biden. The call that was the basis for Trump being impeached the first time.

The truth, contrary to Trump’s contention, is that Zelenskyy never said that Trump did nothing wrong. But he had to be careful not to upset Trump at the risk of losing U.S. military aid. You can’t ask a hostage if he’s under pressure and expect a candid answer. However, Zelenskyy did tell an interviewer at the time that he didn’t “want us to look like beggars.” Then went he on to say that “If you’re our strategic partner, then you can’t go blocking anything for us.”

Trump, however, did block military aid to Ukraine at a critical time. That’s something else that Bartiromo neglected to mention. Eventually, Bartiromo tried to steer the wildly off track Trump back to the question:

Bartiromo: But what about Joe Biden? What does Joe Biden need to do now to stop the fighting in Ukraine? You said that they’ve gone wrong. How? What should he do?
Trump: They’ve got to get them the weapons that he needs and he’s got to open up the oil.

Really? Trump’s insightful analysis of Ukraine’s dilemma as Russian forces are advancing is that Biden needs to do what he is already doing with regard to arming the Ukrainians? Thanks, Donnie. And as for his advice to “open the oil,” what does that even mean? Does he want the Russian Nord Stream 2 pipeline brought back online? And how would that “stop the fighting,” which is what Bartiromo had asked?

It is simply mind boggling how anyone can take Trump seriously as a leader in governing, or diplomacy, or even in managing a Wendy’s in Boca Raton. If he can go on Fox News and make this big an ass of himself, imagine how he would fare if he were interviewed by an actual journalist. And yet his cult following continues to revere him as their messiah.

HUH? Fox News Phony Tucker Carlson Repudiates Tucker Carlson for Rooting for Putin

Spotting lies and hypocrisy on Fox News has never been an especially difficult task. It’s actually been a regular feature of their programming from its earliest days. And nowhere is that more apparent than on the primetime airing of the “Human Manure Spreader,” Tucker Carlson. In fact, it happens with such frequency that the network argued in court (successfully) that no reasonable person would take Carlson seriously.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson

The only problem with the “reasonable person” standard is that there are so many unreasonable persons watching – and appearing on – Fox News. And this was evident on Monday night’s episode when Carlson advanced his abhorrent asininity in a twenty minute tirade that sought to erase the record of his treasonous support for Russia over Ukraine, the United States, and our international allies.

Just last week Carlson delivered a drooling televised love letter to Putin with all of the reasons he admired the brutal dictator, and why nobody should hate him. It’s a doctrine that mirrors identically that of Putin lover Donald Trump, who Carlson is also hopelessly infatuated with.

Carlson began his harangue (video below) ranting that…

“On Twitter, you see Democrats pretending that their political opponents are responsible for the invasion and somehow support it. […] In this country, virtually everyone understands that the invasion of Ukraine is bad. It’s bad for us and for the world. And Vladimir Putin is bad too. So, effectively in America, those are settled facts. We can stop debating them.”

That is a 180 degree turnaround from everything that Carlson has been babbling about for the past week. And for him to say now that “Putin is bad” suggests a measure of hypocrisy that obliterates the scale. He has literally declared that he is backing Russia in this war:

“Why do I care about what’s going on in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia? And why shouldn’t I root for Russia, because I am.”

Carlson went on to complain about Democrats justifiably criticizing Republicans who support Russia and/or Putin, saying “Isn’t war the moment for unity?” That was in the very same harangue wherein he lambasted Democrats and blamed Biden for Russia invading Ukraine. So much for unity.

Carlson also took Rep. Eric Swalwell to task for saying that…

“We have Republicans who are rooting for Russia and that makes it very hard for President Biden to get the whole country to go along when Donald Trump, Mike Pompeo and Tucker Carlson are rooting for Russians and that’s being replayed on Russia TV to rally Russians for this cause.”

Mr. Swalwell had his own succinct reply to Carlson questioning why he would say such a thing…

(full transcript here on Fox News website)

Carlson’s histrionics continued with nonsense like his claim that Democrats “were telling us that sanctions and arming the Ukrainian military would prevent a Russian invasion.” Wrong. They were hoping that such measures would prevent an invasion, but were prepared to go farther if they didn’t.

Carlson also claimed that “No one defended the riot on January 6th. We certainly didn’t.” Of course, that is blatantly untrue. Many Republicans, including (especially) Trump, defended the insurrection and praised the rioters as patriots. And Carlson himself produced a crocumentary asserting that the the whole thing was a “false flag” operation staged by the FBI, and that the rioters were victims.

So now that the country – and the world – is expressing their disgust with Russia’s unprovoked attack on Ukraine, Carlson is trying to sanitize his solidarity with the monstrous Putin regime. This might work with the dimwits who willfully believe his lies, but the majority of the American people have memories that go back farther than a week.

And then there’s this…
