House Squeaker Kevin McCarthy Thanks Donald Trump for Being ‘All In’ on Making Him Speaker

Fifteen votes. That’s how many attempts it took Kevin McCarthy to attain his longtime goal of becoming the Speaker of the House of Representatives. It is the eighth most ballots cast in American history, and the most since before the Civil War.

Kevin McCarthy, House Speaker (Squeaker)

McCarthy’s victory came only after he bargained away a great deal of the power that a Speaker traditionally has held. The beneficiaries of that desperate deal-making were the fringiest of the Republican Party’s right wing, who will now try to hold the House – and the nation – hostage to their uber-conservative commands.

RELATED: Marjorie Taylor Greene: The GOP Will Govern Like the Mafia’s 5 Families in ‘The Godfather’

With that, McCarthy will be a weaker Speaker than any in modern times. One who only managed to squeak through with less than a majority of member votes due to the peculiarities of the process wherein those voting “present” aren’t counted. That lowers the threshold for a majority to only those who voted for someone by name.

Following the fifteenth vote, McCarthy spoke to reporters in the Capitol that was the scene of a violent insurrection two years ago to the day. He didn’t bother to mention that. However, he did give thanks to the person most responsible for those anti-America riots, the twice-impeached, former reality TV game show host, Donald Trump. McCarthy gushed…

“I do want to especially thank [former] president Trump. I don’t think anyone should doubt his influence. He was with me from the beginning. Somebody wrote the doubt of whether he was there, and he was all in. He would call me and he would call others. And he really was – I was just talking to him tonight – helping get those final votes. What he’s really saying really for the party and the country is we have to come together.”

McCarthy is demonstrating his best qualification for leadership of the Republican Party: Shameless sycophancy. It’s reminiscent of his trip to Mar-a-Lago shortly after the January 6th insurrection to bow to Trump and kiss his… let’s say ring. That was only a few days after he had made a speech on the House floor condemning Trump’s responsibility for inciting the assault.

UPDATE: Trump humbly took all the credit for McCarthy’s eventual victory.

However, McCarthy is either lying or delusional. The truth is that Trump ignored the Speaker’s race for the first couple of days as McCarthy was floundering. He eventually posted a rather mild comment on his pitifully failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, begging Republicans to vote for McCarthy, not because he’s deserving, but in order to “WATCH CRAZY NANCY PELOSI FLY BACK HOME!” Which, of course, wouldn’t happen because she remains a respected member of Congress.

As for whether “anyone should doubt Trump’s influence,” the votes immediately following Trump’s appeal had zero effect on the GOP House members who have been voting against McCarthy. He didn’t sway a single vote. And the last six holdouts still didn’t vote for McCarthy, instead just voting “present.” This is more evidence that Trump’s influence as a Republican leader and wannabe kingmaker has devolved into his being an impotent figurehead to whom no one is listening.

RELATED: Fellow Losers: Trump’s Belated Support Proves Impotent as McCarthy Still Loses Votes for Speaker

For his part, Trump bragged that the “The Republican Party really came together last night. It was, in so many ways, a beautiful thing to see. HISTORIC!” And he’s right, if by “coming together” he meant doing the least possible to squeak out a win, and by “historic” he meant historically awful and humiliating.

Trump also posted that the prolonged and incompetently managed ordeal may have seemed crazy (it was), but that it really “made it all much bigger and more important.” Kind of like the way slipping on a banana peel makes walking down the street bigger and more important. And if that weren’t enough, the Beast of Mar-All-Ego posted eight (8!) nearly identical articles about McCarthy thanking him.

It isn’t surprising that McCarthy went out of his way to fluff Trump. That’s what political parasites and bootlickers are best at. Likewise, it’s completely in character for Trump to boast about victories that never took place, or for which he had no role. This speaker vote debacle should put to rest whether Trump has any lingering influence. And if you want further evidence…

Fellow Losers: Trump’s Belated Support Proves Impotent as McCarthy Still Loses Votes for Speaker

The Republican Party appears to be hell bent on confirming all of the worst speculation that the American people had about how a GOP majority would govern if they were given the opportunity. The very first and most basic task of a new session in the House of Representatives is to elect the Speaker. But Republicans are predictably failing that test miserably.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump

On Tuesday, after three attempts, Kevin McCarthy fell short of the majority of votes needed to become Speaker of the House. Then on Wednesday he lost again on the fourth, fifth, and sixth votes. However, there was one difference that some members of the Republican Party may have thought would help McCarthy get over the finish line.

Prior to the votes on Tuesday, Donald Trump had said nothing about the Speaker’s race. In fact, he spent his day disgorging outrage over his having lost the the 2020 presidential election, and repeating his tedious and fallacious allegations of election fraud.

RELATED: Trump Ignores McCarthy Speaker’s Vote to Persist in Obsessing Over His 2020 Election Fraud Lies

On Wednesday morning, however, Trump finally addressed the Speaker’s election and pleaded with his fellow Republicans to vote for McCarthy. But true to form, his endorsement was a madcap mess of all-caps blather that didn’t cite a single reason why McCarthy should be Speaker. Trump wrote that…

“Some really good conversations took place last night, and it’s now time for all of our GREAT Republican House Members to VOTE FOR KEVIN, CLOSE THE DEAL, TAKE THE VICTORY, & WATCH CRAZY NANCY PELOSI FLY BACK HOME TO A VERY BROKEN CALIFORNIA,THE ONLY SPEAKER IN U.S. HISTORY TO HAVE LOST THE ‘HOUSE’ TWICE! REPUBLICANS, DO NOT TURN A GREAT TRIUMPH INTO A GIANT & EMBARRASSING DEFEAT. IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE, YOU DESERVE IT. Kevin McCarthy will do a good job, and maybe even a GREAT JOB – JUST WATCH!”

Apparently those “really good conversations” had zero effect on the GOP House members who have been voting against McCarthy. He didn’t sway a single vote. This is more evidence that Trump’s influence as a Republican leader and wannabe kingmaker has devolved into his being an impotent figurehead who no one is listening to.

What’s more, Trump’s endorsement is, as usual, a feast of lies and petty partisanship. To begin with, a McCarthy victory wouldn’t result in Nancy Pelosi being sent “BACK HOME TO A VERY BROKEN CALIFORNIA.” She remains a revered and historically significant member of Congress. And she is serving a state with a strong economy (the fifth largest in the world if it were a country), a budget surplus, and a popular governor, Gavin Newsom, who just won reelection in a landslide.

Also, Trump’s history is typically mangled. Pelosi was not “THE ONLY SPEAKER IN U.S. HISTORY TO HAVE LOST THE ‘HOUSE’ TWICE.” Sam Rayburn did so in the 1940’s and 1950’s. What Trump neglects to mention is that Pelosi also gained the House and the Speaker’s post twice. And she never lost a vote for Speaker by her caucus, which McCarthy has now done six times.

Trump is also warning Republicans against turning a “GREAT TRIUMPH INTO A GIANT & EMBARRASSING DEFEAT.” But the current GOP majority is one of the smallest ever. And that was after Republicans had promised a massive “red wave” in the November 2022 election. In other words, contrary to being a triumph, it was an epic embarrassment for the GOP, who even lost a seat in the Senate. And that was mostly due to Trump himself.

RELATED: Trump’s Truthless Temper Tantrum Over the Midterm Election Results is Just So Trumpy

The chaos unfolding in the House at the hands of the new Republican majority is pretty much what everyone expected. They are a party that brags about how much they hate government. Then, when they have some measure of authority, they screw things up just to prove their point.

As for Trump, the reputed leader of the GOP, and prospective nominee for president in 2024, he is proving just how inconsequential he really is by not being able to move a single vote for his candidate for Speaker. Just as he was unable to produce votes back in November. The question is: When will the rest of Republican Party recognize that Trump is dead weight and let him drift off? If they were smart they would help to advance his prosecution for the many crimes he has committed and be rid of him. That’s a big “if.”

Trump Ignores McCarthy Speaker’s Vote to Persist in Obsessing Over His 2020 Election Fraud Lies

The Trump Republican Party is beginning the new year just as one would have expected: With the division, animosity, and chaotic incompetence that has been the hallmark of Donald Trump’s brief and abhorrent political career.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump, Kevin McCarthy

The election of the House Speaker is ordinarily a routine procedure that places the majority party’s leader in the Speaker’s chair. That isn’t happening this year because the GOP’s so-called “Freedom” Caucus is opposed to promoting Kevin McCarthy to that position without his agreement to essentially bow to their supremacy. That’s how McCarthy got the vote of Marjorie Taylor Greene, but he doesn’t have enough goodies to dispense in order to bribe the rest of his fellow Republican foes.

RELATED: Marjorie Taylor Greene: The GOP Will Govern Like the Mafia’s 5 Families in ‘The Godfather’

While McCarthy is fighting for his political life, his lord and savior, Donald Trump, is allowing him to sink into obscurity and the shame of failure. Never mind that Trump had previously endorsed McCarthy for speaker. He told Breitbart “News” that “Kevin has worked very hard. I think he deserves the shot.” And that “Hopefully he’s going to be very strong and going to be very good and he’s going to do what everybody wants.” Really? Everybody? Trump went on to make a direct appeal to his GOP pawns, saying that…

“I’m friendly with a lot of those people who are against Kevin. I think almost every one of them are very much inclined toward Trump, and me toward them. But I have to tell them, and I have told them, you’re playing a very dangerous game. […] It could be a doomsday scenario.”

This is another example just how impotent Trump has become as the reputed Republican leader and supposed kingmaker. He can’t even get his most ardent followers in Congress to back his candidate for this critical position. But then again, he isn’t really trying. In fact, Trump hasn’t even mentioned the Speaker’s vote at all in the days and hours prior to it.

RELATED: Trump Fluffs Kevin McCarthy for His Impotent Oratory Opposing Biden’s Build Back Better Bill

Instead, Trump has been posting bizarre comments and ludicrous videos on his floundering Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, about his foremost obsession, the 2020 presidential election that he lost, and his deranged and baseless insistence that there was election fraud. Everything he posted were old and already debunked conspiracy theories.

Sadly, Trump’s morning rant was also focused on defamatory allegations against innocent persons whose lives have been disrupted by his lies. Ruby Freeman, a Georgia poll worker, was mentioned by name as Trump raged “Wow! Has anyone seen the Ruby Freeman ‘contradictions’ of her sworn testimony?” Of course, no one has seen them because they don’t exist. But that didn’t deter Trump from disgorging his outrage in a manner that only affirms his schizoid deterioration, saying that…

“What will the Great State of Georgia do with the Ruby Freeman MESS? Why not just tell the TRUTH, get rid of the turmoil and guilt, and take our Country back from the evils and treachery of the Radical Left monsters who want to see America die? MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Seriously? The “evils and treachery of the Radical Left monsters who want to see America die?” Does Trump think he’s a character in “The Game of Thrones”? Is he so far removed from reality that he believes this hyperbolized hogwash? Trump is taking his delusions straight down into the trenches of the worst of QAnon idiocy.

Unfortunately, there are still a few blockheaded cult followers who are willing to ride that train right off the tracks and into the Sea of Psychotica. And Trump clearly thinks that this crackpot crusade is more important than who leads his party in the House of Representatives. Or perhaps he just knows that no one is listening to him anymore and is hunkering down in the bunker of his narcissistic neurosis. Either way, he’s a portrait of a pathetic loser who thinks he’s a messiah.

RELATED: The Party of Trump and QAnon: Republicans Worship an Impotent Loser

UPDATE: McCarthy failed to get enough votes to become Speaker on three attempts, after which the House adjourned. However, Trump finally made some remarks about Republicans in Congress. But he wasn’t particularly helpful. He posted that…

“There is so much unnecessary turmoil in the Republican Party, in large part do to people like the Old Broken Crow, Mitch McConnell, his ‘wife’, Coco Chow, who is a sellout to China, and their RINO allies, who make it difficult for everyone else by constantly capitulating to Hopeless Joe Biden and the Democrats. The 1.7 Trillion Dollar Green New Deal ‘booster’ that McConnell and the RINOS handed to the Dems last week was a real downer and embarrassment to Republicans!”

First of all, Trump still didn’t stand up for McCarthy or ask people to vote for him. Secondly, he insulted Mitch McConnell and flung a racist slur at his “wife” (which was curiously in quotes as if he doesn’t really believe they’re married). Third, he took some incoherent swipes at President Biden, who can hardly be called “Hopeless” if he keeps beating Trump and the GOP. And lastly, Trump is too far gone to recognize that he is the biggest “embarrassment to Republicans.” This really couldn’t be more fun, or a better way to start the new year.

Fox News and Texas Gov. Abbott are Enticing Migrants to Come to America For ‘A Better Life’

The Republican Party, and their Ministry of Disinformation (aka Fox News) have long exploited the issue of immigration as a foreboding crisis that threatened to destroy America with an influx of drugs, gang members, terrorists, and scary ethnic replacements of its shrinking white majority. They characterized migrants as invaders, despite the the Statue of Liberty’s compassionate entreaty to the world’s “huddling masses yearning to breathe free.”

Fox News Sad

Fox News, in particular, dusted off their fearsome tales of “caravans” of marauding migrants in the weeks prior to every election. They embraced the xenophobic hatred of Donald Trump and other GOP bigots, who always favored the divisiveness of the issue over any solution for it. In fact, their constant declarations that, because of Biden, America’s borders were open, has surely motivated more refugees to immigrate.

RELATED: Stupid Fox News Question: Should Liberal Martha’s Vineyard Celebs Open Their Homes to Migrants?

On Thursday’s episode “Outnumbered” on Fox News, the five panelists collectively defended the inhumane tactics of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who had just dropped off a busload of refugee families in the the freezing District of Columbia on Christmas Eve. Co-host Cheryl Casone led the Abbott Appreciation Society with an unexpectedly sympathetic approach…

“These migrants, first off, they chose to go to Washington, D.C. They signed waivers in multiple languages. They wanted to go. And all of a sudden the left screaming over the weekend, [mock crying] ‘They dumped migrants in the middle of the cold on Christmas Eve.’ They knew exactly where they were going. They were going to hopefully a better life in sanctuary cities.”

First of all, Casone is almost verbatim reciting Abbott’s justification for his barbaric political stunt. His spokesperson told the press that…

“‘These migrants willingly chose to go to Washington, D.C., having signed a voluntary consent waiver available in multiple languages upon boarding that they agreed on the destination.”

However, there are some questions evolving from that statement. Were there actually any waivers? No one has seen them. Were they really voluntary, having been allegedly signed “upon boarding” the buses? Were the refugees told that their destination was given no notice that they were coming or any opportunity to prepare? Were they informed that Washington, D.C. was suffering historically cold weather that had already claimed dozens of lives throughout the the region that the storm impacted?

What’s more, both Casone and Abbott are portraying this heinous human trafficking operation as beneficial to the migrants. They regard it as free transportation to what they say will be “hopefully a better life.”

Really? So now Abbott and Fox News are suddenly concerned about making these refugee families happy? And if so, aren’t they encouraging more migrants to come to America? After all, the governor of Texas will welcome them into the country with a free ride to a place where they will receive food, clothing, jobs, and shelter.

One might ask: Why Abbott would want to persuade more refugees to make the arduous journey north to the U.S.? There are at least two plausible reasons. First of all, the more migrants come across the border, the more Abbott can complain about it and blame it on President Biden and the Democrats. And secondly, Texas and other states actually need to enlarge the labor pool in order to stimulate the economy. They especially need cheap labor since there is currently a glut of job vacancies that gives American workers an advantage with regard to wages and benefits. And the GOP’s corporate donors certainly won’t tolerate that.

RELATED: Jen Psaki Shreds Texas Gov. Abbott’s Publicity Stunts that are Hurting Texas and America

Fox News, for its part, can profit from Abbott’s tactics by producing more frightful stories about invading caravans. So it’s a win-win for both Fox News and Abbott. Too bad it’s so harmful to the nation, and to the poor souls that they are taking advantage of and subjecting to torturous conditions. But then, when did Fox News or Republicans ever care about any of that?

Marjorie Taylor Greene: The GOP Will Govern Like the Mafia’s 5 Families in ‘The Godfather’

December, being the month of giving, behooves us all to express our gratitude for the gifts that crackpot Republicans provide due to their inbred asininity. While this sort of generosity is a year-round endeavor for them, there seems to be an uptick during the year end holiday season.

Click here to Tweet this article

Marjorie Taylor Greene, Gun

So let us give thanks today to Marjorie Taylor Greene. On Tuesday morning she visited with her coup-plotting cohort, Steve Bannon, to discuss the changing control of Congress next year. It’s an issue that she has given a great deal of thought to. For the most part her thoughts have been of totalitarian domination. It’s a theme that the GOP has been fixated on, and one that Greene has personanlly taken to heart.

RELATED: Fascista Marjorie Taylor Greene: If I was Speaker of the House I Would Reign with an Iron Fist

During Greene’s banter with Bannon, she revealed the inside dope on the Republican Party’s plans now that they have a razor thin majority in the House of Representatives. Previously they proposed an initiative that consisted mainly of talking points that were stale when they were first proposed nearly thirty years ago by Newt Gingrich. Even Tucker Carlson of Fox News found it to be a hollow farce.

They also promised a flurry of revenge probes, staging phony investigations of everything from Hunter Biden’s stolen laptop, to the evil machinations of Dr. Fauci. But Greene had something even more profound in mind…

“We’ve been doing – and it’s really interesting – people are arguing, people are clashing, people are also starting to agree, and there’s a meeting that’s happening every week, and we meet in Kevin McCarthy’s office, and it’s called the “Five Families.” And the Five Families – you know my reference – are parts of our conference. All the different parts. And we are coming together and having discussions on how we are going to govern in the majority. And it’s literally my favorite meeting.”

So Greene is analogizing the Republican Party to the Mafia and the fragile coordination between various hostile factions of it. How appropriate that she associates the GOP with a crumbling crime syndicate. Bannon couldn’t help but notice that Greene’s analogy also spelled trouble for Republicans, saying that “I hope that those meetings turn out better than the Five Families meetings in ‘The Godfather.’ They went to war.”

The sour note in this soap opera is that Greene’s fantasy puts Kevin McCarthy in Marlon Brando’s role of Don Corleone. That stretches the willingness to believe a bit too far. However, Greene is at least being consistent with her affinity for violence and gun play. She recently told the crowd at a QAnon affair that the January 6th insurrection wasn’t an insurrection at all, and that “if Steve Bannon and I had organized that, we would have won. Not to mention that it would have been armed.”

So Greene thinks that the problem with the Trump-incited riots in Washington, D.C., aimed at undermining democracy, was that there weren’t enough guns. And that is why she is the new face of the Trumpian Republican Party.

Greene is already exerting her control over McCarthy, who needs her vote to become Speaker. He knows that the narrow margin of the GOP majority, and his unpopularity among his own caucus, means he has to kowtow to screwballs like Greene. And he isn’t the only one who knows this. Democrats are watching with a mix of glee and horror…

Despondent Fox News Host is ‘Pissed’ About Election Losses and Blames Everyone But Trump

Leave it to Fox News to thoroughly fail to learn the obvious lessons of one of the most pitifully catastrophic election cycles the Republican Party has ever suffered. The anguish on the faces of their hosts, and exclusively right-wing guests, tells a story of a willfully blind confederacy of crackpots.

Laura Ingraham, Fox News, Goofy

On Tuesday the final Senate election for the 2022 midterms resulted in another victory for Democrats as Sen. Raphael Warnock defeated Donald Trump’s hand-picked GOP nominee, Herschel Walker. The race was called by Fox News during Laura Ingraham’s program, and she didn’t bother to conceal her searing dismay. In a fit of fury she ranted that…

“We felt this coming. To me, it never felt like the Senate Republicans wanted this guy in office. He was a Trump pick. They didn’t like that. They probably liked Herschel as a person, but there wasn’t the intensity on the part of the Republicans as there was on the part of Democrats. I felt it, you felt it, but we don’t change anything. We have the same people in place in leadership. The same people in place, apparently, at the RNC. Perhaps that’s not changing. We just keep doing the same thing over and over again. I’m pissed tonight, frankly. I’m mad.”

WHUT? For weeks Ingraham and everyone else at Fox News predicted that Walker would easily beat Warnock. They hosted his surrogates (Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, etc.) every other day. They maligned Warnock and Democrats as losers. They held multiple “town halls” giving Walker millions of dollars worth of free airtime. Tucker Carlson even had the audacity to whine about that…

RELATED: HUH? Senior Fox News Misinformer, Tucker Carlson, Declares that ‘Misinformation Can Be True’

While Ingraham mentioned obliquely that Walker was “a Trump pick,” she deftly avoided assigning any blame to Trump for having pushed such a pathetically unqualified stooge to challenge Warnock, an inspiring and articulate incumbent. She never acknowledged that Walker’s only assets as a candidate were his fawning adoration of Trump, and his race, because Republicans believed that Black Georgians were shallow enough to vote for a retired football player, even though he couldn’t complete a coherent sentence.

RELATED: Herschel Walker Challenges Joy Reid to a Debate – But is Silent After She Accepts

According to Ingraham, the fault lies with the GOP establishment who have presided over at least three losing election cycles. She’s actually right about that. If Republicans were smart (a far-fetched assumption), they would oust the entire GOP operation. However, they still wouldn’t advance their future electoral prospects unless they recognize that the Republican Party has been subservient to their Dear Leader Trump. He is the root of their problems. But they are to chickenshit to admit it, or doing anything about it.

Ingraham’s guests were just as deluded. Federalist editor, Molly Hemingway, noted that Walker’s loss was “really offensive for Republican voters [who] just see kind of failure across the board.” Former Trump White House counselor, Kellyanne Conway praised Walker as “one of the most improved candidates.” Seriously?

Elsewhere on Fox News, Sean Hannity babbled “I think Republicans have been unwilling, for whatever reason – reluctant, resistant – to voting early and voting by mail.” Gee, could the reason have anything to do with Trump’s relentless bashing of mail and early voting as corrupt and riddled with fraud? And Marjorie Taylor Greene insisted that “This is Mitch McConnell’s fault. This is Lindsey Graham’s fault. I’m not blaming Herschel Walker. I’m blaming the campaign team.”

Meanwhile, Trump himself weighed in shortly after the race was called with his customary incisive and thought-provoking commentary. On his floundering Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, Trump calmly observed in all caps that “OUR COUNTRY IS IN BIG TROUBLE. WHAT A MESS!” That’s coming from the guy who is most responsible for the losses of nearly every major, contested race this cycle for Senate and governor. Yet he still gets a pass from Fox News.

UH-OH: Marjorie Taylor Greene Fears ‘Corporate Communism’ of Advertisers Leaving Musk’s Twitter

There appears to be a congenital defect in conservatives in general, and in the Donald Trump brand of wingnut Republicans in particular. They seem to have an inability to express a thought that doesn’t exhibit profound ignorance. And they do it without the slightest hint of shame.

Click here to Tweet this article

Marjorie Taylor Greene, Gun

On Sunday morning Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA-QAnon) displayed some of the notable symptoms of this defect in a tweet that aimed to malign both liberals and the world’s biggest corporations, because she believes that they have so much in common. But what’s truly troubling is that her steaming stupidity is taking over the Republican Party as it prepares to assume the majority in the House of Representatives.

RELATED: Fascista Marjorie Taylor Greene: If I was Speaker of the House I Would Reign with an Iron Fist

Instead of landing a blow on her targets, Greene succeeded only in embarrassing herself, as usual. In her crackpot commentary she sought to defend Elon Musk as he endeavors to destroy the $44 billion toy he bought by permitting rampant hate speech and disinformation. She is very upset that, as a result, many companies that advertised on Twitter are temporarily declining to do so. So in that vein she unleashed the following lunacy…

“This is Corporate Communism. Corporations using their economic power to force their political agendas. They need to go back to the ‘Customer is King’ mentality, not corporations are king. @elonmusk opening Twitter for everyone’s speech doesn’t promote one side.”

WOW! That’s quite a shipload of cow manure. To begin with, the phrase “Corporate Communism” makes no sense. There are no corporations in a communist economy, where all means of production are controlled by the state. That’s not an agenda advocated by liberals. She might be thinking of fascism, which is also known as corporatism, where corporations have power over the government. Which is precisely the agenda of the Republican Party.

Greene is also criticizing private corporations for exercising their right to conduct business in a manner that best serves the interests of its customers and shareholders. And for some reason, she thinks that linking to a list of fifty of America’s biggest companies that are repulsed by overt expressions of hate, supports her argument.

If a company chooses not to advertise on a certain platform because it doesn’t want to be associated with the repugnant people and ideas that it promotes, that’s their prerogative. Generally, when a company makes such a decision, it’s because of, not contrary to, what their customers want.

Elon Musk has promised to restore all suspended accounts, except those that violated the law or disseminated spam. That means that accounts that engaged in overt bigotry and dangerous disinformation regarding pandemics and elections, are free to resume their hostile activities. Never mind that the American people have communicated to Twitter’s advertisers that they will not patronize businesses that support such maliciousness. Greene doesn’t believe that companies should have the right to accommodate their customers wishes.

In Green’s world – and in Musks’s – “opening Twitter for everyone’s speech” is simply free speech. But that absolutist standard as referenced in the Constitution only applies to the government. And even there it isn’t absolute. Private companies can set there own standards, and be driven by the values of their customers. But Greene would rather the government force companies and other institutions to advance her values and those of the ultra-right GOP.

RELATED: Rachel Maddow Unmasks the Virulent Racism of Marjorie Taylor Green and Christian Nationalism

Greene went on to condemn Democrats as the party that “mandated unnecessary vaccines [and] drag queen shows in schools.” That’s the sort of asinine speech that she wants to permeate online dialogues. And if anyone disagrees with her they are communists who favor censorship.

However, it is Greene’s positions that hew more to those allegations of censorious state tyranny. Furthermore, she must not have noticed that corporations have “[used] their economic power to force their political agendas” for as long as there have been corporations. Many of them donate to her campaigns. And let’s not forget the Citizens United decision that defined corporations as “persons,” allowing them to advance their political agendas with unlimited amounts of funding. None of that never seemed to bother her.

Now Greene wants to prohibit companies from freely conducting their own business, and to muzzle the American people who want to express their opinions to those companies. But she is too stupid to recognize just how hypocritical she is. And sadly, as Greene goes, so goes the GOP.

Ted Lieu Offers to Read the Insurrection Clause During McCarthy’s Craven Constitution Stunt

The Trump Republican Party is giddy about the commencement of the next session of Congress. They managed to get the slimmest of a majority, which entitles them to elect the next House Speaker. Currently GOP minority leader, Kevin McCarthy, is presumed to be in line for that post. However, his ascension isn’t guaranteed because the Republican dumpster fire caucus is being smothered by their uber-rightist flank.

Donald Trump, Kevin McCarthy

Consequently, McCarthy is taking extraordinary and desperate measures to secure his promotion. Among them is his humiliating condescension to extremists like Marjorie Taylor Greene, Jim Jordan, and Paul Gosar. He is promising an authoritarian style reign wherein he will try to unilaterally – and without cause – remove Democrats from their committee assignments. It’s a stance that only makes him look weaker and more incompetent than ever.

RELATED: Adam Schiff: Weak GOP Leader McCarthy Will Do Whatever Marjorie Taylor Greene Wants Him To Do

This week McCarthy floated another proposition that he believes will earn him the support of his party’s loonies. He announced what he plans to do on the first day of his tenure as Speaker, should he get there. And it has nothing to do with inflation, crime, immigration, abortion, or any of the other unpopular initiatives that Republicans campaigned on. But McCarthy’s proposal was met with immediate blowback by Democratic representative Ted Lieu of California. McCarthy stated his intention to stage a transparently exploitative piece of political theater…

McCarthy: On the very first day of the new Republican-led Congress, we will read every single word of the Constitution aloud from the floor of the House—something that hasn’t been done in years.
Lieu: Dear @GOPLeader: I volunteer to read the Insurrection Clause. Also, shouldn’t you and your party be working on passing bills to help the American people?

Rep. Lieu is now in contention for 2022’s award for “Best Trolling of a GOP Hack.” If McCarthy goes forward with his reading of the Constitution, he’s going to need to decide how to handle the parts that highlight the Republican’s lawlessness and racism. The Insurrection Clause that Lieu referenced seems to apply fittingly to Donald Trump, and many members to the GOP “Freedom” caucus. It says that…

“No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection [emphasis added] or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.”

If history is any indication, McCarthy won’t be taking Lieu up on his his offer. The last time the Constitution was read from House floor was in 2011, by the newly elected Tea Party Republicans. They deliberately left out the Insurrection Clause. They all also left out the parts describing the “three-fifths compromise” that counted slaves as three-fifths of a person in the calculation of congressional representation. And they skipped over the language that mandated that “runaway” slaves be “delivered up” to their owners. If those are included this time, who will be the unlucky member who has to read them?

Democrats should not allow such revisionist history to be presented this time around. If McCarthy wants to pay tribute to the Founding Fathers and their work, then the entire record should be on display, warts and all. If Republicans don’t like the fact that the original documents oppressed slaves, women, and anyone that didn’t own property, they should be consoled by the amendments that followed, not by censorship.

What they shouldn’t be doing is editing out the parts of the Constitution that they don’t like because it reflects badly on them and what they are pursuing in the present day. But that’s what McCarthy and his confederates are aiming for. He should know that he’s on the wrong track when even his media mouthpieces on Fox News are criticizing his fecklessness and impotency as a leader.

Adam Schiff: Weak GOP Leader McCarthy Will Do Whatever Marjorie Taylor Greene Wants Him To Do

The Democratic Party enjoyed unprecedented success in the 2022 midterm election. During a time when historically the party in power suffers painful losses, Democrats pretty much held their own, despite headwinds such as inflation and President Biden’s low approval polling.

Donald Trump, Kevin McCarthy

Democrats will retain the majority in the Senate, and may even a gain a seat. They flipped several governorships and state legislatures from red to blue. Most of Donald Trump’s endorsed candidates in contested races lost. And while Republicans did win a majority in the House of Representatives, the margin is so narrow that they will be unlikely to produce anything of substance without making concessions to Democrats for support.

That said. the GOP is nevertheless determined to impose their brand of totalitarianism on the nation. They have abandoned any interest in the issues they campaigned on (inflation, crime, immigration, abortion, etc.) in favor of advancing an agenda of petty and puerile revenge against President Biden, his administration, his family, and his party.

Sunday on Fox News, the GOP’s presumptive incoming “leader,” Kevin McCarthy, was pitched softballs by Maria Bartiromo, Fox’s Senior Trump-Fluffer. However, Bartiromo did put some pressure on McCarthy to make good on a prior promises to Kremlinize the House…

Bartiromo: What are you gonna do in terms of these Democrats that you have on such important committees? You’ve talked in the past about removing Ilhan Omar, You’ve talked about removing Adam Schiff, Eric Swalwell. Will you deliver?
McCarthy: Yes I will. I’ll keep that promise. One thing I said from the very beginning, Eric Swalwell cannot get a security clearance in the public sector. Why would we ever give him a security clearance in the secrets to America? So I will not allow him to be on Intel. You have Adam Schiff who had lied to the American public time and again. We will not allow him to be on the Intel committee either. And you look at Congresswoman Omar, her anti-Semitic comments that have gone forward, we’re not going to allow her to be on foreign affairs.

So McCarthy is openly flaunting his fidelity to neo-fascism with the promise to oppress members of the Democratic Party. His stated justifications for doing so are, of course, all utterly preposterous.

With regard to Swalwell, McCarthy is outright lying. There has never been any denial of a security clearance for Swalwell, or any reason why he wouldn’t be granted one. McCarthy is making veiled references to debunked allegations that Swalwell had a “relationship” with a suspected Chinese spy. That was a Fox News fallacy that was proven to be false. But that didn’t stop McCarthy from trying (and failing) to boot him from the Intel Committee in March of last year.

With regard to Schiff, McCarthy is making totally unfounded accusations of lying, but naturally, he can’t provide any example of it. The truth is that McCarthy is just upset with Schiff because Schiff keeps telling the truth about Donald Trump and the Republican Party. Notably, Schiff was the lead manager in the first Trump impeachment, for which he gave an inspiring closing argument.

With regard to Omar, McCarthy is simply exhibiting the bigotry that is the hallmark of the Republican Party. What McCarthy, the GOP, and Fox News have asserted is anti-Semitism is actually just Omar criticizing the Israeli government, which many Israeli and American Jews do without being insulted as anti-Semites.

Schiff was later interviewed on ABC’s “This Week” by Jonathan Karl. He was asked about McCarthy’s yearning to oust him. Which led to this exchange…

Karl: One of things that Kevin McCarthy has said is that he’s gonna strip you of your position on the House Intelligence Committee.
Schiff: “I suspect he will do whatever Marjorie Taylor Greene wants him to do. He’s a very weak leader of this conference, meaning that he will adhere to the wishes of the lowest common denominator, and if that lowest common denominator wants to remove people from committees, that’s what they’ll do. It’s going to be chaos with Republican leadership. And, sadly, that kind of crazy caucus has grown among the Republicans. Many Republicans who won primaries in deeply red districts are coming to Congress, like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar, and it’s a tragedy for the country.”

That just about says it all. McCarthy doesn’t have the brains or the guts to be an effective House Speaker. All he can do is further debase himself by kowtowing to crackpots like Trump and Greene. And there are no depths to which he will not descend in order secure power for himself that he has no idea how to wield. Which is why he likely won’t last very long as Speaker. The problem for Republicans is that they haven’t got anyone who is any better. Even Fox News thinks McCarthy is a hack.

House Republicans Openly Promise to Abuse Power and Impose One-Party, Totalitarian Rule

As the Trump Republican Party prepares to assume control of the House of Representatives with the barest of a majority, they are plotting unrealistically ambitious plans for how they will govern. And almost none of their priorities align in any way with what the American people want, or even with what they campaigned on.

Donald Trump, Republican, GOP

Gone is any discussion of inflation, crime, immigration, or abortion. They have been replaced by a singular focus on phony probes of President Biden, his administration, and his family. Republicans have been fanning out on Fox News and other conservative media outlets promising to impeach the President, the Attorney General, and the Secretary of Homeland Security, just for starters.

Let’s set aside the fact that they have no chance of succeeding with any that. Nor do they have any intention of doing so. It’s a brazenly political parade of stunts aimed damaging Democrats while ignoring the welfare of the nation, and wasting untold millions of dollars.

But it’s also something much worse. It’s an embrace of totalitarianism that seeks to suppress their political foes. Republicans are determined to rule unimpeded by protocol, decency, or the Constitution. For example, Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) was asked on Newsmax if GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy intends to strip Adam Schiff of his committee assignments if he becomes Speaker. He replied…

“Yeah, absolutely. Kevin McCarthy has said that. Along with him will be Eric Swalwell will also be removed from the Intelligence Committee.”

Indeed, McCarthy said that last year. According to NBC News

“McCarthy named Reps. Eric Swalwell of California; Ilhan Omar of Minnesota; and Adam Schiff of California as Democrats he’d remove from their committee assignments.”

Never mind that there is no reason other than ideological disagreement for these punitive actions. This is the sort of fascistic behavior that the GOP has been trending toward for several years. What they didn’t mention was the fact that any such committee removals would require a vote of a majority of the House. The Republicans will have a small majority, but because of that, McCarthy wouldn’t have a vote to spare if he intends to carry out this oppressive threat. And if he manages to get away with it, the blowback will be brutal.

In addition to that, Republicans are up in arms about Attorney General Merrick Garland appointing an independent Special Counsel, Jack Smith, to investigate the crimes of Donald Trump. Garland justified the appointment as a measure to separate the Justice Department from the politics. Needless to say, Trump was mortified, as well as terrified.

RELATED: Trump’s Response to the Appointment of a Special Counsel is Predictably Outraged and Schizoid

Trump-fluffer Marjorie Taylor Greene weighed on in this with a threat of her own. On Steve Bannon’s webcast, she told him that she intends to defund the Special Counsel, saying that…

“I just wanna tell Jack Smith he’s not going to get much of a paycheck. Because I’m gonna do everything I can to make sure there is zero American taxpayer dollars appropriated for Merrick Garland’s special counsel, which is nothing but the Democrat Party’s campaign against president Trump […] We’re not going to do this again. That’s it. We’re gonna stop them and we’re gonna do it through the power of the purse.”

Once again, Greene (who said, in the best tradition of fascists, that she would “rule with an iron fist”) and her Republican confederates don’t have the power to unilaterally defund anything. Even if they passed a bill in the House, it would never get through the Democrat-controlled Senate, or be signed by Biden. What’s more, why on Earth would she want to do that? Would she prefer that the investigation be done by the Justice Department attorneys who report to Garland? This is one of those things that Republicans typically fail to think through. Naturally, Greene got concurrence from both Bannon and Laura Ingraham of Fox News.

McCarthy has been cutting deals with folks like Greene in order to secure their votes for Speaker, which he still doesn’t have. Consequently, he is on board with these crackpot schemes that they can’t actually do. And he has also revealed his own priority for the next session of Congress, insisting that the “GOP will repeal Biden’s 87,000 new IRS agents on day one.”

Of course, there is no such initiative. It is just another Republican lie based on an appropriation of funds to recruit IRS employees to replace those who leave over the next five years. And most of them are not agents, but administrative staff.

RELATED: Fox News Fear Mongers that Biden’s IRS Agents Will ‘Hunt Down and Kill Middle Class Taxpayers’

This is what America has to look forward to after the GOP assumes control of the House. On the one hand, it will be a nightmare as Republicans carp endlessly about fake “scandals” and contrived conspiracy theories. On the other hand, it will only further alienate the American people from the GOP, because they are repulsed by their self-serving political antics.

The GOP is proudly anti-American. They have pledged to sabotage the U.S. (and world) economy by refusing to increase the debt ceiling in order to force cuts in Social Security and Medicare. As a result, it is fairly safe to assume that the GOP majority in the House isn’t going to last longer than the next session of Congress. And the Republican’s march toward irrelevancy will advance the Democrat’s prospects for elections in 2024. And they’ll have Marjorie and Kevin to thank.
