Trump Fixates on Fox News Phonies While Lying that a Gag Order Prohibits Him from Testifying

The third week of Donald Trump’s trial for election interference and campaign finance fraud (sometimes known as the “Hush Money” trial), began with a bang on Monday morning. Judge Juan Merchan slapped Trump with another contempt of court violation (his tenth) for violating the gag order that was previously imposed. The judge also warned Trump that further violations could result in a jail sentence.

Donald Trump, Fox News, Fake

As usual, Trump paused outside of court to whine to the press about what a pathetic victim he is. It was essentially the same remarks that he delivers on every one of these occasions. He is stuck in a tape loop that repeats ad nauseum. It’s hard to imagine why the press even bothers to show up. At this point they should just send interns to record his staged pseudo-campaign comments. Because they are flagrantly exploitative and there is rarely ever anything newsworthy in them.

SEE THIS: UNFIT TO SERVE: Trump and Fox News Whine that Sitting Up Straight All Day is Draining Trump’s Brain

On Monday morning Trump responded briefly to a reporter’s question about whether he will testify in his defense (video below). He has previously said that he would “absolutely” do so, but subsequently backtracked, making ludicrous excuses such as his utterly false assertion that a gag order prohibits him from testifying. Trump and his lawyer were later admonished in court for that lie. But that correction does not seem to have stuck. He responded saying that…

“We have a gag order as to that first question. As you know they’ve taken away my constitutional rights. So I’m not allowed to answer that question. This has never happened in this country before. It’s a ridiculous thing. It’s a ridiculous thing. I did nothing wrong. Absolutely nothing wrong.”

Of course, as he well knows, it is simply untrue that he is not allowed to testify, or that his constitutional rights have been violated. The truth is that he is scared witless of testifying and being ripped to shreds by the prosecuting attorneys. He also knows that if he testifies he will likely perjure himself, because he is incapable of speaking for more than few seconds without lying. Trump continued his testy tirade with what he believes were affirmations of his innocence by a phalanx of Fox News legal hacks, telling reporters to…

“Take a look at Gregg Jarrett this morning. Take a look at Andrew McCarthy, or Jonathan Turley, or Mark Levin. It’s like, they say there’s no case here. And yet the judge has gagged me and I’m not allowed to talk about the gag. It’s total conflict. The judge is totally conflict. He’s totally conflicted. And you ought to take a look at…and I’m not supposed to be talking about it. But I am allowed to say that that the judge is in conflict like nobody’s ever had before. Just take a look at it. He’s taken away my constitutional right to speak.”

It is not coincidental that every one of the legal “geniuses” that Trump named are regulars on Fox News. And it’s not the first time he’s done this either. Where else could he get such uniformly sycophantic adulation that has zero basis in the law? And Trump was prepared with this list of testimonials because he had posted thirty (30!) comments on Sunday on Truth Social by these same legal “experts,” as well as other Trump cult spokespersons like Jim Jordan and Hugh Hewitt. None of whom provided any coherent legal arguments to exonerate their Dear Leader. Trump concluded his remarks by complaining that…

“It’s a fake trial. They have no case. And it’s been absolutely proven now. They have no case whatsoever. This is Alvin Bragg doing it for political reasons for Biden. This is a Biden trial. He’s a crooked President.”

If it were true that “it’s been absolutely proven” that prosecutors “have no case,” Trump would be a lot more confidant now. He wouldn’t be consumed by anxiety and fear. Clearly he’s aware of the legal peril that he’s in. So he lashes out the only way he knows how. With lies and allegations about his political foes, especially President Biden. And despite his frequent and failed prior attempts to peddle this nonsense, he still seems to think that people are going to buy it. That’s what happens when someone is mired in psychotically narcissistic delusions. Poor thing.

WHUT? MAGA Media is Ranting About Biden Eating Salad and the Loch Ness Monster on Trump’s Jury

It must be impossibly difficult for Donald Trump’s disinformation brigades to keep up their non-stop smear campaigns. After all, how often can they regurgitate the same lame and libelous laments about “rigged” elections and trials, and desperately infantile insults aimed at President Biden and other Democrats?

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Joe Biden, Fake News

The answer to that question is apparently that there is no limit to how often the Trump cult can rehash tired tirades that they have already disseminated to death. The inevitable result of that obsessive overuse of perpetual peevishness is that the propaganda purveyors wind up descending ever deeper into the depths of depravity and absurdity.

FOR INSTANCE: Fox News Floats Conspiracy Theory that Biden is Plotting to Assault Trump to Avoid Debating Him

On Tuesday morning the MAGA media was called to arms to defend Dear Leader Trump and to malign Biden. Unfortunately for them, they had nothing of substance – or even sanity – with which to pursue their missions. So they puffed up their chests and went into a battle of wits entirely unarmed.

First we have Eric Bolling of Newsmax. He is the former Fox News host who was fired for sexual misconduct and rescued by the lower tier wingnut network. Bolling delivered a monologue based on his perverse perception of Biden having a perfectly normal meal at the White House Correspondents Dinner last weekend. What Bolling saw, however, wasn’t remotely related to reality…

“Here is the President of the United States, the man with the nuclear codes at his fingertips, grappling with a bowl of lettuce. He can barely feed himself. […] The man who is going to push back on Russia, China, North Korea? Are you kidding me? He can’t even take a bite of his own salad. This man’s not suited for the job for four more minutes, let alone four more years.”

It’s remarkable that Bolling can claim that Biden wasn’t able to “take a bite of his own salad” while simultaneously playing a video of Biden taking taking a bite of his own salad. It was right there in the split screen next to him. It appears that Bolling was upset that Biden didn’t shovel the salad into his mouth the way that Trump devours a bucket of KFC. In MAGA Land behaving in a civilized manner is evidence of senility. But ravenous gorging is proof of manhood.

Not to be outdone in the deranged department, Jesse Watters of Fox News did a commentary on Trump having been charged and fined for contempt of court following his violation of the gag order that the judge had to impose on him because he wouldn’t stop attacking court personnel, witnesses, and jurors…

“They are threatening to throw the Republican nominee for president in jail for talking. For talking during an election. Now I am not a lawyer. Just play one on TV, but according to the gag you could have the Loch Ness monster as a juror and Trump can’t say the Loch Ness is real. That’s a thousand dollars. Boom, right there. It’s not fair. It’s unconstitutional. And it goes against everything that this country stands for.”

LOCH HIM UP! First of all, Trump is not being threatened with jail for talking. He is being penalized for violating a court order to refrain from intimidating people. He can talk all he wants. In fact, he rarely stops. But he cannot engage in threats or harassment.

Watters seems to be dead set on retaining his role as the stupidest person on Fox News. Which judging from these remarks, he has nothing to worry about. He also doesn’t need to remind people that he isn’t a lawyer. Especially when he drags the poor, unsuspecting Loch Ness monster into a discussion about the jurors on the Trump trial.

Watters seems to think it’s okay for a defendant to malign jurors based on the scales of their skin. And he thinks that attacking jurors of monster-origin is what this country stands for. Does anyone have the slightest idea WTF he’s talking about?

The rants by Bolling and Watters are asininity on the scale of MAGA’s prior attacks on Biden for eating ice cream cones, or the false allegations that he is plotting to confiscate household appliances, or that the eclipse was a Democratic plot to sneak migrants into America. It seems that they just keep getting more and more preposterous every day. And that aint easy. So give them credit. It’s something that they really have to work at.

Hunter Biden Threatens Fox News with Lawsuit Alleging Defamation and Revenge Porn

CNN has obtained a copy of a cease and desist letter from Hunter Biden’s attorneys to Fox News, demanding that they retract false stories that they have been disseminating for more than a year, despite the fact that there is no evidence to support them. Not that lacking evidence has ever stopped Fox News from lying to smear their political opponents before.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Bullshit Factory

The specific stories addressed in Biden’s letter refer to unfounded allegations that President Biden and his son accepted bribes from Ukrainian officials. The source of those allegations was a Russian operative, Alexander Smirnov, who was recently arrested for having lied to the FBI about these allegations and other disinformation he was spreading on behalf of his Russian handlers. And Fox News was well aware of the deceit because the White House had previously told them so…

SEE THIS: White House Seeks Retraction from Fox News of Biden Smears By GOP and Russian Indicted for Lying

On Monday, CNN’s Dana Bash revealed what Biden’s letter to Fox News said…

“Lawyers for Hunter Biden are telling Fox News to correct the record on bribery allegations made by a discredited FBI informant or face a defamation lawsuit. CNN obtained a cease and desist letter sent to Fox last week. In it Biden’s legal team points to Fox hosts like Maria Bartiromo continuing to push claims that Hunter Biden and his father took bribes from Alexander Smirnov. Even after Smirnov was indicted for lying to the FBI.

“Biden’s team also accused Fox of profiting off of a fictionalized show streaming on Fox Nation called “The Trial of Hunter Biden,” and of violating revenge porn laws because that show unlawfully published, and continues to publish, intimate pictures of Hunter Biden depicting him in the nude.”

This potential lawsuit would add to the legal troubles that Fox News has been facing. They have already settled a defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems for $787 million. That suit revealed the myriad lies that Fox News hosts and guests told about Donald Trump’s “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged and stolen” from him. The revelations that emerged included emails that showed that Fox knew they were lies while they were telling them. Fox News is also facing a similar defamation lawsuit by the voting software firm, Smartmatic, for $2.7 billion.

MORE HERE: The Fox News 3/4 Billion Dollar Dominion Defamation Settlement is Also a Judgment Against Trump

It’s interesting that Biden’s letter named specific Fox hosts as perpetrators of the defamation. In particular, Maria Bartiromo has been a frequent distributor of dishonest “reporting.” Media Matters has documented that her show pushed the indicted FBI informant’s story more than 200 times.”

Hunter Biden has a strong case against Fox News and the network would be wise to issue the retractions and settle with him. Otherwise, Biden’s legal team would begin the discovery process, wherein they could subpoena internal communications that would undoubtedly embarrass the network, its hosts, and executives. But expecting Fox News to do the right thing is always a suckers bet. So as they say…stay tuned.

UPDATE 4/30: Fox News has responded to Biden’s letter defending what they say is “constitutionally protected coverage,” and refusing to remove and retract their reports. However, the First Amendment does not shield them from defamation, known falsehoods, or purposefully “fictionalized” stories that contain stolen, private images. But Fox News is apparently worried because The Daily Beast is reporting that they did scrub the “mock trial” that ran on Fox Nation.

UPDATE 7/1: Hunter Biden has filed a lawsuit against Fox News for distributing “revenge porn.”

Sean Hannity of Fox News is Already Making Excuses for Why Trump Will Lose Debates to Biden

The 2024 presidential election continues unfold amidst the spectacle of one of the candidates being tried on multiple felony charges of election interference and campaign finance fraud. And Donald Trump’s legal problems will surely be among the topics of discussion at any of the candidate debates, should they actually take place.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump, Joe Biden

There is some question as to whether the debates will occur, primarily because the Republican Party has refused to agree to the sponsorship by the bipartisan Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) that has been been conducting them since 1987.

SEE THIS: Cowardly Republican Party to Require Their Presidential Candidates to Boycott 2024 Debates

The Republican National Committee (RNC) issued their rejection of the CPD because it wouldn’t submit to their demands, consisting wholly of complaints that crybaby Trump made in 2020 due to his cognitive inadequacies and inability to engage in a substantive dialogue.

Now, in advance of the proposed debates by the CPD, Trump’s MAGA media minions are already making excuses for why Trump is going to lose those debates to President Biden, despite their insistence that he is mentally deficient and, according to Trump, “can’t put two sentences together.” On his Fox News program Friday night, Sean Hannity whined that…

“If he does debate, we will see jacked up Joe 2.0. Whatever Red bull that he drank, or caffeine pills that he took, or whatever he might have taken, I promise you they’ll give it to him again

Hannity was referring to his prior allegations that Biden was “medicated” during his State of the Union address. Hannity, and every other Trump-fluffer, were unable to accept the fact that Biden had just delivered an eloquent and passionate speech, so they resorted to a smear campaign based on nothing but their infantile imaginations. And Trump joined in as well, shouting in all caps that “THE DRUGS ARE WEARING OFF!”

SEE ALSO: Trump’s Live-Bleating of Biden’s State of the Union Address Was Predictably Petty and Pathetic

It’s apparent that Hannity is convinced that Trump is the mentally deficient candidate who will humiliate himself in a debate with Biden, who will show up much better prepared and composed. Trump will demonstrate his notorious ignorance of the issues, along with his petulant temper and vulgarity.

Consequently, months before the debates are scheduled to occur, Hannity is laying the groundwork to account for Trump’s expected embarrassing exhibition. Unfortunately for Hannity and Trump, that isn’t going to work for either one of them. Trump will undoubtedly shame himself with a predictably pitiful performance, and Hannity will shamelessly ignore reality by praising Trump’s failure. Meanwhile, Democrats will be hoarding the popcorn.

Fox News Floats Conspiracy Theory that Biden is Plotting to Assault Trump to Avoid Debating Him

The demented drivel that emanates from Fox News on any given day is relentlessly ridiculous. They find fault with President Biden and Democrats on everything from the atrocity of eating an ice cream cone to the flagrantly false fear mongering about confiscation of household appliances.

Click here to Tweet this article

Joe Biden, Donald Trump

On Friday morning, Fox’s “Outnumbered” outdid themselves with some of the most preposterous displays of performative outrage they have ever cooked up. And that’s saying something, considering that Fox News is the network that recently said that Trump would benefit from going to jail for contempt of court; that the recent eclipse was a Democratic plot to sneak migrants into America; and that Trump’s brain was being drained by having to attend his criminal trial in New York.

SEE THIS: UNFIT TO SERVE: Trump and Fox News Whine that Sitting Up Straight All Day is Draining Trump’s Brain

The subject on Friday’s episode of “Outnumbered” was whether and when there would be debates between Biden and Trump. Predictably, the co-hosts of the program engaged in baseless and childish insults. But they went even further over the cliff’s edge with utterly bizarre accusations about Biden plotting to steal the election and “sabotage” Trump prior to the debate.

Kara Frederick: What they’re gonna do, in my opinion, is they’re gonna delay, delay, delay, until most of those mail-in votes have been cast. You know, past July when most of the electorate has already voted. […] There’s not enough uppers in the world at this point to get that man sentient.
Emily Compagno: It will probably be a Nancy Kerrigan situation too, where right as Trump is walking out they like snip the mic. ‘Oh no! We tried. We showed up. It was a flat tire. I’m sure it will be something…sabotage.

To refresh everyone’s memory, Nancy Kerrigan was a championship figure skater who was assaulted prior to her routine by an associate of another contestant. So Campagno is not-so-subtly implying that the Biden team is planning to do something similar. Only a MAGA nutcase would imagine that sort of thing, because it’s what they want to do to Biden.

As for Frederick, let’s set aside her infantile swipe at Biden, accusing him of taking drugs to stay awake. Once again, that’s textbook projection following the reports of Trump repeatedly falling asleep during his criminal trial.

More significant is Frederick’s charge that the Biden campaign wants to delay any debates until after “most of those mail-in votes have been cast.” Which she says would be in July. Seriously? Not single mail-in or early vote anywhere in the country will have been cast at that time. The party nominating conventions won’t even have been completed. How ignorant and/or dishonest do you have to be to say that “most of the electorate has already voted” by then?

Speaking of ignorant and dishonest, Trump himself weighed in again on mail-in and early voting. Outside the courtroom on Friday, Trump made another of his factless rants about how such measures are racked with fraud…

“In the old days it was election day. Now it’s election…some of these things 48 days. 48 days of cheating. Which we hate. We gotta bring the elections back to paper ballots. Which, by the way is very sophisticated. They make very sophisticated paper. You can’t cheat. It’s very simple. It would cost about 9% of what the machines cost and what elections cost. And it would be safe. But paper ballots, voter ID – you need voter ID – and same day voting.”

So not only is Trump imagining some miraculous, “very sophisticated paper,” with which “You can’t cheat,” he’s reiterating his opposition to voting machines and early voting. Which is interesting in that his daughter-in-lawlessness, Lara Trump, who he recently installed as the chair of the Republican Party, has been furiously imploring Republicans to “embrace early voting [because] The days of waiting until Election Day to vote are over.” That obviously doesn’t square with what Daddy Trump is ferociously fretting about. Maybe he’s just scared about Biden coming to kneecap him. Although, according to Trump – and the conservatives on the Supreme Court – Biden couldn’t be prosecuted for that.

SHOCKING! Fox News Interviews MAGA Cult Disciples in a Diner and Finds That They Support Trump

The first criminal trial of a former American president has officially begun. And Donald Trump was at his place at the defendant’s table as his friend and co-conspirator, National Enquirer publisher David Pecker, testified that the two of them and others engaged in manufacturing fake news to prop him up and malign his foes.

Donald Trump Baby Fox News

The relationship between Trump and the Enquirer is no longer operative, so far as we know. But not to worry. Fox News has assumed that post and is flagrantly lying on Trump’s behalf to boost his flagging electoral prospects. Of course, Fox News has been doing that for years, but now, as the 2024 election cycle gains steam, they are ramping up their efforts. And much of their focus is squarely on the legal tribulation of Trump.

SEE THIS: Trump Desperately Clings to Fox News Legal Hacks Who Ignore the Law to Fluff Trump

On Wednesday morning Lawrence Jones, co-host of “Fox and Friends,” visited a diner in Michigan to get a taste of what ordinary citizens are thinking about the race between Trump and President Biden. But to no one’s surprise, the taste of Jones’ talks was not so sweet (video below). It was, in fact, wildly biased. He began with this charming woman…

Jones: We were talking about the former president being under prosecution right now. What do you make of it? Do you think that it’s fair?
Diner: No, I don’t think it’s fair. I think it’s ridiculous. They’re just trying to keep him busy so he can’t run. […] We need Trump back or else we’re going to lose our country!

Do you think that Jones failed to notice that this woman was swaddled in a giant Trump flag? And do you think that that impacted his decision to interview her? Clearly her response to the question was easily predictable considering her fashion statement. But Jones didn’t care about that. He was looking to move on to his next subject. A man wearing a MAGA t-shirt…

Jones: Let’s talk with some more folks here. Sir, how are you doing? I see you’ve got your MAGA shirt on. There’s all these cases, but we’re starting in New York. What do you feel about it? Do you think that it’s fair?
Diner: Not at all. They’re going after him just to keep him off the trail.

Notice that both of these “random” diners expressed exactly the same opinion that unnamed nefarious covert scoundrels controlling the courts are plotting to prevent Trump from campaigning. They apparently haven’t noticed that Trump hasn’t bothered to campaign on the days when court wasn’t in session, including on the very day that they were being interviewed. He is a decidedly lazy candidate who prefers holing up in his Mar-a-Lago bunker to sullying himself with the unclean masses on the campaign trail.

Jones talked to a third diner who, like virtually everyone Jones ever interviews, was pro-Trump. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence. He prefaced the question by saying that Manhattan is 80% Democratic, implying that it would be impossible to have a fair trial. Never mind that Trump has said that he has great support in New York and predicts that he will win there. The diner complained that all of the media is conspiring against Trump. And he’s saying that to the co-host of a program on Fox News, the highest rated cable news channel.

These Fox News “man-on-the-street” segments are phonier than Trump’s facial hues and hair. And by selecting subjects who are literally decked out in Trump gear, Fox News is demonstrating that they couldn’t care less about disguising their biases. They are as much a part of the cult as the rubes that they interview. As the official MAGA Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News is purposefully putting their political prejudices on display. Because they want to make sure that their viewers, who are not the sharpest tools in the shed, don’t miss the message.

UNFIT TO SERVE: Trump and Fox News Whine that Sitting Up Straight All Day is Draining Trump’s Brain

The 2024 presidential election has been fraught with concern about the age of the candidates and whether that would impact their ability to endure the unique burdens of the job. President Biden has demonstrated his competence by presiding over one of the most productive administrations is modern times.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump, Wah

Donald Trump, on the other hand, cannot point to a single achievement during his occupation of the White House other than tragically mismanaging the COVID pandemic, cutting taxes for the wealthy, losing more jobs than any other president since Hoover, Adding eight trillion dollars to the deficit, and appointing justices who rolled back reproductive rights for women. And since he left office he’s been singularly focused on his “Big Lie” that the 2020 election was “rigged and stolen” from him, and avoiding prison for his 88 pending felony charges.

SEE THIS: Trump Says All Presidents Must Have ‘Total Immunity’ from Crimes – Except for President Biden

The question of competence arose again this week while Trump has been in court for his first criminal trial. And among those who doubt Trump’s ability to perform is, surprisingly, one of the most prominent Trump-fluffers on Fox News, Jesse Watters. During his primetime program Watters offered what he presumably thought was a defense of Trump’s ordeal in court, saying that Democrats are conspiring against him by forcing him to attend the trial like any other defendant…

“They’re draining his brain and his body. Now, I don’t like to sit. They say sitting is the new smoking. You’re going to take a man who is usually golfing or in action, and you’re going to sit him in a chair in freezing temperatures and just let people rip you and you can’t say anything? Four days a week, eight hours a day — that takes a toll.”

First of all, It isn’t Biden or Democrats who are responsible for Trump suffering the indignity of “sitting” in court. It is first and foremost Trump’s responsibility for violating the law. And there is no evidence that Democrats were involved in the law catching up with him. His indictments were issued by a panel of citizens on a grand jury.

More to the point, if Watters thinks that sitting quietly in a courtroom for a few hours a day will “drain Trump’s brain and body,” what would sitting through weeks of negotiations with Congress or foreign leaders do to him? Watters is inadvertently, but effectively, arguing that Trump is unfit to serve as president.

What’s more, Watters is trying to invent a version of a vigorous, athletic Trump that doesn’t exist in reality. But at the same time he’s asserting that Trump is a frail flower that can’t tolerate a chilly courtroom. Watters also portrays Trump as being too fragile to withstand the testimony of some of his own former friends and associates. According to Watters, Trump will wither in this scenario because the sitting and the temperature and the exposition of the truth “takes a toll” on the tenderness of Trump. That’s not exactly a profile of the presidential strength required of anyone aspiring to the post.

Earlier the same day on his other Fox News show, “The Five,” Watters painted a similarly weak picture of Trump saying that…

“Trump needs exercise. He’s usually golfing and you’re going to put a man who’s almost 80 sitting in a room like this on his butt for all that time? It’s not healthy. He needs sunlight. He needs activity. It’s really cruel and unusual punishment.”

Watters is actually arguing that it is “cruel and unusual punishment” for criminal defendants like Trump to have to attend their trials rather than play golf in the sunshine. What an atrocity! And he asserts that Trump’s health will suffer if he can’t do that every day. Never mind that Trump’s “exercise” consists of riding around in a golf cart for a couple hours, before lining up at the Mar-a-Lago buffet for some fried chicken and diet soda.

For his part, Trump is echoing Watters’ opinions. He frequently holds impromptu press avails when court isn’t in session (which the press really needs to stop doing). And on Tuesday Trump complained to reporters that…

“I’m here in a courtroom, sitting here. Sitting up as straight as I can all day long. It’s a very unfair situation.”

It’s so unfair to make Trump sit up straight at his criminal trial when, according to reports, all he wants to do is nap, or when he can stay awake, to scowl menacingly at others in the courtroom. Why can’t people just leave Trump alone so he can hold his cult rallies and hobnob with rich folks who are looking for favors from the government?

Apparently it’s just too much ask ask someone who wants to be president to pay attention in the courtroom where he’s being tried on serious felonies. Yet Trump and Fox News and the MAGA minions think that such a person is competent to serve as president. Perhaps all of their brains have already been drained.

Fox News is Lusting After Trump Going to Jail as a Way to Kick-Start His Comatose Campaign

The first criminal trial for Donald Trump – or any American president – is now set to commence on Monday morning. This is naturally whipping Trump’s brain into a frothy puree of dyspeptic pulp as he predictably unleashes a frenzied assault on his perceived enemies in the courtroom, the media, and pretty much anywhere he turns.

Donald Trump, Prison

Trump’s anxiety is driven by his fear that he will finally be held accountable for his myriad crimes. He knows what he’s done, and he knows that the evidence will prove it. So he resorts to malicious attacks that only affirm his impotence and cowardice. And to one’s surprise, his Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News, is standing by to provide shelter in the storm…

SEE THIS: Trump Desperately Clings to Fox News Legal Hacks Who Ignore the Law to Fluff Trump

The prospects of Trump being convicted have been examined by knowledgeable lawyers and legal academics. But there is another path that could lead to Trump’s incarceration. He is virtually daring the judge in his election interference (aka hush money) case to find him in contempt of the court’s gag order prohibiting him from maligning court personnel, prosecutors, witnesses, and jurors.

If Trump really wants to go to jail, he has an ally in Fox News. On Friday there were a couple of notable commentaries that not only address that possibility, but actually promote it.

Let’s begin with Pam Bondi, the former Republican attorney general of Florida, and currently with the ultra-MAGA America First Policy Institute. She was a guest on Sean Hannity’s program where they had the following exchange…

Bondi: Do I want to see him in jail? Absolutely not. I wouldn’t put it past this judge though. And [former] president Trump should be allowed to be out on the campaign trail every single day. This trial shouldn’t even be going until after the election.
Hannity: Well, let me ask you…If they try to put the former president in jail a hundred and some odd days before an election, you really believe that’s gonna happen? What do you think the country’s reaction to that is?
Bondi: I think he’ll win by an even a bigger landslide than he’s going to win by already.

First of all, the trial will be in session four days a week. Which leaves three days a week for Trump to be out on the campaign trail. This week he didn’t go out campaigning at all on those three days, which isn’t the court’s fault. Trump is just inherently lazy. And it shows as he has sequestered himself in his Mar-a-Lago bunker, or his golf resorts, while President Biden has been crisscrossing the nation to meet voters and discuss the issues that matter to them.

More to the point, if Bondi really believes that incarcerating Trump would result in “an even a bigger landslide,” then why wouldn’t she want to see him jail? She’s essentially making the argument that putting Trump behind bars would be a smart strategic play, but then disowns her own theory. Many Americans, however, would love to see that theory tested. So he should either go for it, or shut up.

MORE ON BONDI AND TRUMP: Donald Trump Caught Outright Lying About ‘Donation’ To Florida Attorney General

Later Friday night, Jesse Watters raised the same issue on his program. And he was even more explicit in his advocacy of jailing Trump…

“I would make them put me in jail. I would have a tweet about maybe something perhaps I said on ‘The Five’ or ‘Jesse Watters Primetime,’ and I would force them to throw me in jail.”

Okay, fine. Let’s all hope that Trump is listening and takes Watters’ advice. Because they are convinced that the American people would embrace a candidate who is so hostile and emotionally unstable that he would provoke a judge to punish him for disruptive and infantile behavior. That’s just what the MAGA cult wants in a national leader.

Time will tell if Trump decides to take the path to prison. He is certainly capable of it. He believes he is infallible and untouchable. He’s half right. And whether by intention, or just the fact that he can’t keep his big mouth shut, he could wind up crossing the line and getting sent to the slammer.

But hey, that’s no problem for Trump because it would only make him a martyr and more popular in the eyes of his cult followers. Right? Both he and Fox News are certain of it. And America is waiting and hoping that Trump tests out his theory. The sooner the better. Or is it just another lie and attempt to look tough?

There is now a predictable ritual that occurs every time that Donald Trump makes an appearance in court. Immediately following the hearing Trump ambles out to a nearby rabble of reporters gathered to record his post-trial rants (and the press really needs to stop doing that). With the jury now selected we can expect to see these staged sniveling sessions on a near daily basis for the next few weeks.

Never mind that there is never anything newsworthy to report from these disgorgements of grievances. It’s just Trump repeating the same complaints he does whenever a camera is pointed at him. He’s either crying about being a helpless victim or falsely accusing everyone from the judge to the prosecutors to the witnesses to the jury, of being biased against him in what he insists is a “rigged” trial that he should never have had to endure.

On Thursday Trump brought some props to his circus act. He awkwardly rifled through a stack of printouts someone provided for him of articles from sycophantic right-wing media. He was presenting them as “proof” that the charges against him were unfounded. But they were pretty weak evidence. He read off a few of his sources, and they were all Fox News legal analysts…

“Jonathan Turley. Gregg Jarrett. Andrew McCarthy. Every one of them saying, they call it a zombie case, meaning it is no case. And they say it’s unconstitutional. They don’t think the case is…These are all stories that have taken place over the last few days.”

Well then, that settles it. Dismiss the case and let Trump return to the comfort of his Mar-a-Lago bunker. He later claimed that these article represented all of the opinions about his case, saying that “I haven’t seen one that says it’s a good trial.”

Apparently Trump has a very narrow field of vision. He obviously hasn’t seen the opinions of respected legal experts like Lawrence Tribe, Andrew Weissmann, Joyce Vance, Neal Katyal, Michael Luttig, Barbara McQuade, Glenn Kirschner, Jill Wine-Banks, and even his own former attorney, Ty Cobb. All of whom regard the case against Trump as strong and likely to lead to a conviction.

As affirmation that what Trump is doing is a joke, his courtside spectacle was addressed by Jimmy Kimmel in his monologue Thursday night, who noted that…

“The MAGA media, they’re doing everything they can to push this idea that this won’t be a fair trial. That way, when he loses, they can say the jury was rigged.”

Then Kimmel played a series of clips of people on Fox News and Newsmax insisting that Trump can’t a get fair trial because Manhattan is chock full of Trump haters. Which is interesting, because Trump is also saying this….

It’s also interesting that these Trump-fluffers in the wingnut press are baselessly alleging that liberals are lying to get on the jury, but they never mention the possibility of Trump cultists doing so. Even though some MAGA crackpots are explicitly encouraging it.

Clearly the only threat to a fair trial is being posed by Trump and his MAGA minions. Along with those who are trying to taint the jury, there people like Sean Hannity and Jesse Watters who are trying to intimidate prospective jurors by revealing identifying information about them on the air.

Hopefully their tactics won’t work, and the trial will proceed to a fair conclusion. And hopefully, in the interim, the media will refrain from airing Trump’s sideshow antics during the intermissions.

Fox News Totally Flubs (i.e. Lies) About How Jury Biases Would Impact Trump’s Hush Money Trial

On Monday jury selection began for the first ever criminal trial of a former American president. It’s only the beginning of Donald Trump’s legal tribulations as there are three more criminal trials gearing up that could make him the first ever former president felon. The so-called “Hush Money” case – which could more accurately be called the “Election Interference” case – is just the first one out of the gate.

Fox News, Constitution

Trump has been spending these days whining pitifully that he is a poor beleaguered victim of a corrupt judicial system that he says is determined to destroy him. Never mind that he is the cause of his troubles due to his relentless criminal activities and behavior that exhibits a consciousness of guilt. He even issues public confessions admitting that he has done what he’s accused of, but claiming that he’s allowed to under an imaginary doctrine of “presidential Immunity.”

Jury selection in high profile cases like these are always complicated as attorneys on both sides seek to assemble a panel that will not be biased against against their client (the defendant or the state). In this particular case that is even trickier because Trump’s supporters are fully indoctrinated cult members who can be expected to deceive the court in order get on the jury and save their Dear Leader from clutches of justice.

To that end, Fox News is contributing to the problem by disparaging the court and encouraging misbehavior by prospective Trump jurors. Fox News contributor Clay Travis actually suborned perjury by advising potential jurors to “do whatever you can to get seated” on the jury.

But that’s just for starters. Fox News also interviewed law professor and Trump toady, John Yoo, who gave an utterly bizarre analysis of the jury selection process, saying that…

“I think it’s pretty extraordinary in the very first jury pool, before you interview anybody, half of the jury pool already says that they’re so biased against President Trump that they can’t serve on the jury…That’s only going to feed into, I think, Donald Trump’s claim that the public integrity of court’s and the prosecutors is to be questioned as biased and unfair against them.”

First of all, it is a flagrant lie that half of the jury was dismissed because they were biased against Trump. The truth is that prospective jurors completed a questionnaire that asked several questions to ascertain whether they had “any” strong opinions about, or association with Trump.

One question specifically asked, “Is there any reason, whether it be a bias or something else, that would prevent you from being fair and impartial if you are selected as a juror for this case?” Judge Merchan also asked for a show of hands of those who believed that they could not be fair and impartial. Those who raised their hands or otherwise indicated an inability to be impartial were dismissed.

Note that none of these inquiries indicated whether a bias was in favor of or against Trump. Just whether any bias existed either way. So, contrary to Woo’s analysis, it is just as likely that supporters of Trump were dismissed for bias as opponents.

But Yoo’s analysis was also flawed logically, in that he asserted that dismissing those who were biased against Trump would disadvantage him. What? Quite obviously the opposite is true. If only people who were biased against Trump were dismissed, leaving him with a jury comprised of his supporters, that would be an enormous advantage for him.

Despite the efforts of the court to ensure a fair trial, Trump and Fox News keep whining that Trump can’t get an impartial jury of his peers in New York. They seem to think that “peers” means political allies. Trump’s team is fixated on smearing the judicial system, this court, and the jurors. And Trump’s press secretary made that clear in an appearance on Newsmax Tuesday morning…

Let’s face it. The Trump team is already convinced that they are going to lose. so they are pulling out all the stops to demean the courts and dismiss the findings of the jury. But they are so frightened by their fate that they have lost all ability to make coherent arguments. So sad.
