Trump’s 14 Page Response to Being Subpoenaed By the January 6th Committee is Laughably Pathetic

As the January 6th Committee investigating the insurrection at the Capitol winds to a close, they took a step to complete the record of evidence by issuing a subpoena for the last, and most conspicuously guilty, witness that has yet to testify. That, of course, is Donald Trump, who incited the deadly riots and for three hours did nothing to stop them.

Donald Trump Angry

On Friday morning Trump posted his interminably drawn out fourteen page response (pdf) to the Committee’s subpoena in a long and utterly substanceless screed that was signed by him alone (i.e. no attorneys). It was essentially a ponderous elaboration on his knee-jerk hissy fit on Thursday.

RELATED: Trump Lashes Out Impotently After January 6th Committee Votes to Subpoena Him

The protracted version of Trump’s psychosis was predictably incoherent and devoid of any relevant facts. It just another obvious deflection from the subject of the hearings and as tedious rehashing of his baseless reasons to assume that voter fraud took place. The tirade began with Trump wallowing in his victimhood and lashing out at his perceived persecutors:

“The same group of Radical Left Democrats who utilized their Majority position in Congress to create the fiction of Russia, Russia, Russia, Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax #2, the $48 Million Mueller Report (which ended in No Collusion!), Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine, the atrocious and illegal Spying on my Campaign, and so much more, are the people who created this Committee of highly partisan political Hacks and Thugs whose sole function is to destroy the lives of many hard-working American Patriots, whose records in life have been unblemished until this point of attempted ruination.”

It’s nice of Trump to itemize all of the illegal and unethical activities he has engaged in over the years. Never mind his perpetually hollow denials of any culpability. He went on to whine that…

“This memo is being written to express our anger, disappointment, and complaint that with all of the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on what many consider to be a Charade and Witch Hunt, and despite strong and powerful requests, you have not spent even a short moment on examining the massive Election Fraud that took place during the 2020 Presidential Election, and have targeted only those who were, as concerned American Citizens, protesting the Fraud itself. Those who committed the Fraud, thereby having created the Crime of the Century, go unblemished and untouched, but those who fought the Crime have suffered a fate that was unthinkable just a short time ago. We have a two-tier system of Justice in the United States that cannot be allowed to continue.”

Here Trump is appalled that the Committee is responsibly adhering to the topics that it was established to investigate. He is dismayed that they aren’t veering off into the fantasy world of imagined offenses against Trump. He is outraged that the Committee isn’t humoring him about election fraud that didn’t take place, and for which he and his minions have failed to provide evidence for nearly two years. And he is projecting his own fears unto his cult followers, attempting to make them believe that they are victims.

The ridiculous document goes on to complain that he got “millions more votes in 2020 than I did in 2016.” Someone needs to tell Trump that the objective in an election is to get more votes than your opponent, not more than yourself four years earlier. Similarly irrelevant is his observation that “almost the entire Republican Party feel that the Election was Rigged and Stolen.” That’s merely more evidence that the GOP is pitifully delusional and indoctrinated into the Cult of Trump.

Trump repeats his totally false assertion that he “recommended and authorized thousands of troops to be deployed to ensure that there was peace, safety, and security at the Capitol.” No, actually, he didn’t. But it’s interesting to note that this lie suggests he thought that the Capitol needed protection from his own supporters. PolitiFact’s detailed analysis documented that there is no record of Trump authorizing troops, no evidence that Pelosi denied such an authorization, and that she doesn’t have the authority to do so in the first place.

Trump also lied that the Committee hearings had “very poor television ratings.” To the contrary, the hearings from the very start broke viewing records. With over 18 million viewers, they had a larger audience that the Game two of the NBA Finals.

RELATED: January 6th Hearing Ratings are Burning Up Trump and His Right-Wing Media Liars

In closing, Trump said something that was actually true. He noted that “The people of this Country will not stand for unequal justice under the law.” Indeed, the majority of Americans want to see Trump indicted and prosecuted. And finally, nine of the fourteen pages of his response were devoted to an appendix that was entirely composed of flagrantly false allegations of election fraud – all of which were debunked many times, long ago – and nonsense such as references to Hunter Biden’s laptop.

The Committee’s chairman, Bennie Thompson, summed up the hearings saying that…

“[Trump] tried to take away the voice of the American people in choosing their president and replace the will of the voters with his will to remain in power. […] He is required to answer for his actions. He is required to answer to those police officers who put their lives and bodies on the line to defend our democracy. He is required to answer to those millions of Americans who’s votes he wanted to throw out as part of his scheme to remain in power.”

As for Trump, his lengthy reply failed to state whether he would comply with the subpoena. If the past is any indication, he will try to delay any testimony by challenging the subpoena in court. Failing that, he will try to run out the clock and hope that Republicans gain control of the House and disband the Committee. But even if he were to appear, he would almost certainly refuse to answer questions by pleading the 5th Amendment, as he did more than 400 times when deposed by the New York Attorney General.

According to New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, Trump told aides “that he’s not opposed to the idea of testifying before the committee, as long as it’s on his terms.” By which he specified that the testimony be aired live. That’s been done with many other witnesses, so the Committee would surely agree to it for Trump. And since it would likely result in Trump embarrassing and/or incriminating himself even further, all that would be missing is the popcorn.

Trump Lashes Out Impotently After January 6th Committee Votes to Subpoena Him

The January 6th Committee investigating the violent insurrection in Washington, D.C. that Donald Trump incited, held what is likely their last hearing before publishing their findings. Much of the hearing consisted of summations tying together the evidence that Trump knew about the violence taking place at the Capitol and not only approved of it, but deliberately inflamed it.

Donald Trump, Snowflakes

After doing nothing but watching the deadly riots on television at the White House for three hours, Trump eventually released a statement telling the rioters that he understood their anger and that he loved them. Further testimony found that he wanted to join them in their coup attempt, and that he knew that many of them came armed and prepared for battle.

The success of the bipartisan hearings in the the House drove Trump to attack them frequently, and even to threaten to sue them.

RELATED: After Goofy Lawsuit Against CNN, Trump Threatens More Suits, Including the January 6th Committee

The most noteworthy news coming out of this hearing was that the committee voted to subpoena Trump to testify. There have already been hundreds of witnesses, most of them Republicans and veterans of the Trump administration. And the case against Trump is regarded by legal experts as overwhelming and airtight.

The last piece of the probe’s puzzle would be Trump’s perspective. Not that it’s necessary at this point given the volume of testimony and documentary evidence already compiled. But if nothing else, it would give Trump an opportunity to make his own case. So naturally Trump blew up and posted an incoherent response on his fatally floundering social media scam, Truth social. Trump whined

“Why didn’t the Unselect Committee ask me to testify months ago? Why did they wait until the very end, the final moments of their last meeting? Because the Committee is a total “BUST” that has only served to further divide our Country which, by the way, is doing very badly – A laughing stock all over the World?”

Trump is exhibiting his notorious ignorance of legal matters in this comment. The principle targets of any investigation are always interviewed at the end so that their version of events can be compared to those of other witnesses. What’s more, Trump was actually invited to testify voluntarily, and told that he was welcome to come before the Committee at any time and at his convenience. He repeatedly declined and castigated the Committee with childish insults, including his pathetic nickname, the “Unselect” committee.

Trump is unlikely to comply with this subpoena without engaging in a drawn out and futile legal battle to quash it. That’s his modus operandi to pursue perpetual delays. To date his efforts to avoid subpoenas in other cases have all failed. So when he was ultimately forced to comply, as with the New York Attorney General, he showed up and pleaded the Fifth Amendment more than 400 hundred times.

RELATED: Snowflake Trump Pleads the Fifth Amendment, So Let’s Break Down His Desperately Deranged Reasons

Clearly Trump doesn’t believe that “the Committee is a total ‘BUST’.” If he did he would jump at the chance to appear with his allegedly irrefutable evidence of election fraud, and embarrass the Committee with his brilliantly constructed defense.

To the contrary, Cadet Bone Spurs is demonstrating again that he is a pitiful coward who is too scared to take a stand on his own behalf. Unlike his nemesis, Hillary Clinton, who testified before a Republican congressional committee for eleven hours, answering every question, and not complaining once about being persecuted, or calling her interrogators infantile names.

Trump’s comment closed with the accusation that the Committee is trying to “divide our Country” and has made it “A laughing stock all over the world.” As usual, he is projecting. Because that’s exactly what Trump himself has done. And now that he is being offered yet another chance to state his case, he will surely continue to refuse in favor of inducing more division and laughter at his own expense.

RELATED: Crybaby Trump Slams the January 6th Committee For Nixing His Witnesses – Who Refused to Testify

UPDATE: Trump posted a couple of additional similarly feeble comments. One asked “Why didn’t Crazy Nancy Pelosi call out the ‘troops’ before January 6th, which I strongly recommended that she do.” Of course, there is no evidence that he ever made such a recommendation, and Pelosi doesn’t have jurisdiction over that anyway.

The other comment said that the “Committee knowingly failed to examine the massive voter fraud which took place during the 2020 Presidential Election.” However, there isn’t a shred of evidence of any voter fraud. And if Trump were really interested in presenting some, he could do it in front of millions of Americans watching him testify before the Committee, which he’s too scared to do because he knows he’s got nothing to say.

UPDATE II: Trump also posted that “I will be putting out my response to the Unselect Committee of political Hacks & Thugs tomorrow morning at 8:00. Thank you!” That should be fun.

After Goofy Lawsuit Against CNN, Trump Threatens More Suits, Including the January 6th Committee

The pathologically litigious former reality TV game show host, Donald Trump, has revealed his latest legal lunacy. In a typically amateurish 28 page filing, Trump announced that he is suing CNN, claiming defamation and seeking punitive damages of $475 million.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump, CNN

That’s right. Trump is suing the network that he has defamed hundreds of times as “fake” and “the enemy of the people” for defamation. His new complaint comes less than a month after another lawsuit against Hillary Clinton, and nearly fifty other people who the suit describes as “her cohorts,” was laughed out of court. The judge ruled that Trump was just “seeking to flaunt a two-hundred-page political manifesto outlining his grievances against those that have opposed him.”

RELATED: Trump’s Loopy Lawsuit Against Hillary Clinton and ‘Her Cohorts’ Reads Like Sleazy Pulp Fiction

Trump’s filing begins with a paragraph that is wholly saturated with political, rather than legal, arguments. He starts off saying that “The Plaintiff, President Donald J. Trump, has been a long-time critic of the Defendant, Cable News Network, Inc. (“CNN”)” So what? What does that have to do with any rational assertion of defamation? He continued…

“The Plaintiff, President Donald J. Trump, has been a long-time critic of the Defendant, Cable News Network, Inc. (“CNN”) — not because CNN does a bad job of reporting the news, but because CNN seeks to create the news (“fake news,” as the Plaintiff has characterized it in public statements). Beyond simply highlighting any negative information about the Plaintiff and ignoring all positive information about him, CNN has sought to use its massive influence— purportedly as a ‘trusted’ news source—to defame the Plaintiff in the minds of its viewers and readers for the purpose of defeating him politically. […]

“CNN has tried to taint the Plaintiff with a series of ever-more scandalous, false, and defamatory labels of ‘racist,’ ‘Russian lackey,’ ‘insurrectionist,’ and ultimately ‘Hitler.’”

First of all, Trump’s description of CNN as having “massive influence” is a contradiction of his repeated insults over the years calling CNN a failing news enterprise with terrible ratings that nobody watches.

More to the point, the crux of Trump’s complaint is that CNN’s use of labels describing him as a “racist,” “Russian lackey,” “insurrectionist,” and comparable to Hitler are defamatory. Apparently his lawyers have not advised him that the truth is a solid defense against allegations of defamation. And there is abundant evidence that CNN’s labels are accurate. It should be interesting to see the court proceedings as that evidence is presented.

Trump’s announcement of this lawsuit was made on his floundering social media scam, Truth Social. In his tedious and infantile fashion, Trump whined that…

“A lawsuit was filed today against CNN, the once prestigious news channel that has devolved into a purveyor of disinformation, defamation, and Fake News, at a level which the American Public, and indeed the World, will not even believe is possible.” […]

“In the coming weeks and months we will also be filing lawsuits against a large number of other Fake News Media Companies for their lies, defamation, and wrongdoing, including as it pertains to ‘The Big Lie,’ that they used so often in reference to their disinformation attack on Presidential Election of 2020.”

Trump didn’t bother to identify any of the other media companies that he is threatening to sue. But Trump’s animosity toward the press will surely provide him with a long list of what he regards as offending enterprises. We can assume that it won’t include Fox News, which has been documented to have disseminated more lies, disinformation, and propaganda than any other “news” organization. If Trump’s suit against CNN were successful, Fox News better look out. Then he continued…

Likewise, we may bring appropriate action against the Unselect Committee of January 6th because, notwithstanding overwhelming evidence, they REFUSED to investigate the massive Presidential Election Fraud which took place, but only investigate and harass the people and Patriots who complained and asked questions about it. The rigging and stealing of our Presidential Election was perhaps The Crime Of The Century, and look at what is happening to our Country now!”

So Trump thinks he can sue Congress because it isn’t investigating the people he wants them to investigate. Never mind that there isn’t a shred of evidence to support any of his allegations that there was any “rigging and stealing of our Presidential Election.” But he still wasn’t finished…

“The Unselect Committee has refused to acknowledge, as was done by the Biden Inspector General at the Department of Defense, and others, that days ahead of January 6th, I recommended and authorized thousands of troops to be deployed to ensure that there was peace, safety, and security at the Capitol and throughout the Country. That offer of the national guard was rejected by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and Mayor Bowser of Washington, D.C. – The law requires their request, they failed to make one, and in turn failed the country.

This charge that Speaker Pelosi was responsible for the January 6th insurrection has been debunked repeatedly. PolitiFact’s detailed analysis documented that there is no record of Trump authorizing 20,000 National Guard troops, no evidence that Pelosi denied such an authorization, and that she doesn’t have the authority to do so in the first place.

It’s also curious that Trump’s bogus complaint is essentially that Pelosi didn’t sufficiently protect the Capitol from his violent supporters. He’s admitting that he knew his cult followers posed a risk significant enough to require thousands of National Guard troops to suppress.

Trump’s filling also contains this morsel: “CNN has been given the dreaded ‘Pants on Fire!’ designation by PolitiFact for its stories comparing Trump to Hitler.” He’s referring to segment wherein a guest on CNN said that Trump “may be responsible for many more million deaths” than Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Mao Zedong.”

Setting aside the fact that this was a position taken by a guest and not CNN, Trump should be careful about citing the “Pants on Fire” designations by PolitiFact. For the record, he has 116 of them. Overall, his statements reviewed by PolitiFact include 83% that are “Half True, Mostly False, False,” or “Pants on Fire.” Only 14% were rated “Mostly True” or “True.” That’s not exactly something to brag about.

Trump Attorney Announces Laughable Lawsuit Against CNN for Accurately Calling Trump a Liar

Donald Trump is nothing if not predictable. Whenever he encounters bad news he responds reflexively by going on the attack. Often that manifests in his declaring an intention to file a lawsuit against those he deems to have offended him. For the most part, his antics fail to achieve anything except to waste the time of the court and/or to humiliate himself.

Donald Trump, CNN

With the profoundly effective investigation of the January 6th insurrection being conducted by the House Select Committee, Trump is at it again. The Committee is masterfully presenting evidence of the multitude of crimes that Trump has committed. So in a transparent attempt to deflect attention from his legal peril, he is flinging ludicrous threats of lawsuits around that have no plausible chance of success.

RELATED: REPORT: Trump is ‘Fixated’ on the January 6th Hearings and Obsessed with How He is Coming Across

Lindsey Halligan, one of a string of Trump’s incompetent attorneys, appeared this week on recently convicted Steve Bannon’s ‘War Room’ podcast to announce a threat to sue CNN. The complaint is typically preposterous and offers more opportunity for comedy than for anything of any legal importance. Halligan told Bannon that…

“CNN branded president Trump as a liar and referred to his questions regarding voter fraud as the ‘Big Lie,’ which is actually linked to Adolph Hitler. So it’s pretty simple. If you’re going to call someone a liar, back it up with research, well founded facts. Otherwise, don’t report it. Don’t distort the truth. […] CNN responded to our letter today, advising us that they will not retract any of the statements. So they will be getting served with a lawsuit very shortly, I believe.”

This lawsuit could be the hottest streaming entertainment of the season. If Trump hopes to make the case that CNN defamed him by calling him a liar, he’s going to have to produce evidence that CNN’s reporting is false. That’s going to be be a tough sell considering that Trump has been documented to have told more than 30,000 lies during occupancy of the White House.

Specifically with regard to the “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged” and “stolen” from him, Trump will need to contradict all of his own White House aides who advised him that there was no significant voter fraud. They include his FBI director, Chris Wray, his DHS chief of cybersecurity, Chris Krebs, and his Attorney General, Bill Barr, who called such claims “bullshit.”

RELATED: AG Bill Barr on Trump’s Big Lie: We Realized From the Beginning it Was Just Bull****

Consequently, CNN will have little trouble affirming the accuracy of their reporting. What’s more, through the process of discovery, they can force Trump to provide further proof that he was repeatedly warned that his election fraud allegations were totally bogus. Which will result in this lawsuit suffering the same fate that his prior legal stunts did. For instance…

Trump’s latest legal threat, like those that preceded it, is drawn from the same pool of ignorance that Trump has always wallowed in. It is just another attempt to create a distraction, to abuse the justice system, and to drain donations from his glassy-eyed cult followers. Which, in the big scheme of things, is really all he cares about.

Fox News Hack’s Deranged Defense of Trump’s Insurrection and Coup Plot Backfires Bigly

For more than a year and an half, Fox News has been propping up Donald Trump and his “Big Lie” that the 2020 election was “rigged” and “stolen” from him. All of their Trump-fluffing hosts, contributors, and guests, have participated in the deceit that has driven the nation apart and led to the deadly insurrection on January 6th, 2021.

Donald Trump, Fox News, Lies

Among the most pernicious of Trump’s accessories to sedition is weekend host, Mark Levin. He’s allegedly a lawyer once served as chief of staff to Edwin Meese, Ronald Reagan’s disgraced Attorney General. On the latest episode of his lie-cast, Levin lashed out at the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection. The premise of this harangue centered on his contention that there was no insurrection at all. Never mind all the video of hundreds of StormTrumpers assaulting Congress as they tried to carry out their constitutional duties to certify the election. But distorting legal arguments is nothing new for Levin.

RELATED: Fox News Legal ‘Expert’ Thinks that ‘Trial of Your Peers’ Means a Jury of All Trump Toadies

Levin’s argument rested on his twisted definition of the word “insurrection.” He clearly doesn’t know what he’s talking about or, more likely, is deliberately mangling the language to disinform his dimwitted viewers (video below). He began…

“If Donald Trump were seriously interested in an insurrection, he would have issued a video, and his video wouldn’t have said what it said. His video would have been a call to arms, right? To leading an insurrection.

He would have called everybody who could hear his voice to come to the Capitol armed, armed, to take over the Capitol building. He would have called out the United States military, whether they would respond or not, to come to the Capitol building, encircle it, arrest the Vice President, and arrest other officials, members of Congress. That’s an insurrection. He would have declared martial law. That’s an insurrection. He didn’t do any of those things. As a matter fact, He didn’t do any of the things people told him he might want to do in order to, quote/unquote, ‘hold onto the presidency.'”

First of all, Trump actually did issue a “call to arms,” when he told his cult followers that they had to “fight like hell,” or they “wouldn’t have a country anymore.” He then told his Deplorable Army – who, according to the aide to his own chief of staff, he knew were armed – to march to the Capitol, even promising that he would be marching with them. And while he didn’t order the arrest of Mike Pence, he did agree that he deserved to be hanged.

Levin also implied that the reason Trump “didn’t do any of those things” that would keep him in power was because that wasn’t his intention. To the contrary, Trump did try to orchestrate a coup, but the people he needed for it to succeed refused to go along with it. So far Levin’s argument is a total bust. But he was just getting started. He continued with a question that was surprisingly fitting, although not for any reason he might have been thinking:

“What am I talking about? He didn’t send out the military to get voting machines, as some have suggested. He didn’t send out the Department of Homeland Security to get drop boxes, as some have suggested. He didn’t fire the Attorney General or the acting Attorney General, as some have suggested. He didn’t appoint a special counsel, as some have suggested. He didn’t do any of it.”

Here is where Levin’s loopy lecture went completely off the rails. Virtually everything he said was a lie. Also, he is not describing an insurrection here. He is describing a coup. Of course, Trump is guilty of attempting both. In this case, however, Trump actually did seek to “send out the military to get voting machines.” He did try to have federal agencies “get drop boxes.” He did plan to “fire the Attorney General or the acting Attorney General,” and replace him with a corrupt crony. He did want his crackpot lawyer, Sydney Powell, to be “appoint[ed] special counsel” He did all of that.

What’s more, Levin left out entirely that Trump also pressured state election officials in Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, etc., to “find votes” for him. And he sought to replace legitimate electors with Trump supporters. And for more than three hours Trump failed to take any action to halt the insurrection that was in progress on Capitol Hill. Instead, he was watching it on Fox News and cheering them on.

RELATED: Tucker Carlson Mocks (and Lies About) the January 6th Committee Hearing that Featured Fox News

Trump’s treachery is well documented. And Levin’s tirade did nothing but affirm his anti-democratic criminality. In fact, the points raised by Levin make a strong case for indicting Trump and his crime syndicate. Even the newspapers owned by Fox News magnate, Rupert Murdoch, are saying that Trump is “unworthy” to serve as president again.

Fox News itself has yet to be so explicit in their criticism. But anchor Bret Baier did comment on how the House Committee’s work is playing out, saying that “Laying out all these 187 minutes makes him look horrific.” However, Baier is a little late. Most Americans had noticed the horror of Donald Trump a long time ago.

WOAH! Rupert Murdoch’s Right-Wing New York Post Scorches Trump as ‘Unworthy’ to Be President

This has been a bad week for Donald Trump. It began with the Pulitzer Board rejecting his preposterous and impotent demand to rescind awards given to the Washington Post and the New York Times for their reporting on his unsavory connections to Russia. And it ended with the conviction of Steve Bannon, his former campaign boss and White House advisor, on two counts of contempt of Congress.

Donald Trump, Fox News, Hate Again

In between, the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection that Trump incited exposed his flagrant and purposeful negligence during the Capitol Hill riots. The Committee presented testimony and damning video documenting how Trump (who is fixated on the hearings) spent 187 minutes deliberately choosing to do nothing while members of Congress were under attack and law enforcement officers were violently assaulted. Well, he wasn’t exactly doing nothing. He was gleefully watching his StormTrumpers assault the seat of American democracy on Fox News.

RELATED: Tucker Carlson Mocks (and Lies About) the January 6th Committee Hearing that Featured Fox News

On Friday another development took place that is sure to rattle the former reality TV game show host. The New York Post, which is owned by Fox News magnate, Rupert Murdoch, published an editorial titled “Trump’s silence on Jan. 6 is damning.” The article was profoundly critical of Trump and his future electoral prospects. It said in part that…

“As his followers stormed the Capitol, calling on his vice president to be hanged, President Donald Trump sat in his private dining room, watching TV, doing nothing. For three hours, seven minutes.”

And that…

Trump “was the only person who could stop what was happening. He was the only one the crowd was listening to. It was incitement by silence.”

And that…

“To his eternal shame, as appalled aides implored him to publicly call on his followers to go home, he instead further fanned the flames.”

And that…

“His only focus was to find any means — damn the consequences — to block the peaceful transfer of power.”

And finally that…

“It’s up to the Justice Department to decide if this is a crime. But as a matter of principle, as a matter of character, Trump has proven himself unworthy to be this country’s chief executive again.”

Wow! That’s pretty harsh condemnation of the man they’ve been propping up for years. To be clear, this was not merely an op-ed by a guest author with anti-Trump views. This was the official opinion written by the Post’s Editorial Board. And if Trump has lost the New York Post, can Fox News be far behind?

Of course, the Post isn’t altering their hardcore, ultra-rightist political bias. Neither would Fox News be, if/when they adopt this criticism of Trump. It would just be their attempt to cover their asinine worship of Trump for the past seven years as his multitude of crimes become more obvious, his putrid reputation becomes increasingly harder to defend, and his popularity plummets.

Fox News has already begun paving the way for a Trump replacement, even if their audience isn’t quite ready for it. They have been busy elevating Florida’s budding authoritarian governor, Ron DeSantis, as his Herr Apparent. So there seems to be a consensus, that includes Fox News, that the January 6th Committee’s work is having an impact on both the Trump-fluffing media and the public. Hopefully it’s having an impact on Attorney General Merrick Garland as well.

UPDATE: Murdoch’s Wall Street Journal published a similarly critical article of Trump titled “The President Who Stood Still on Jan. 6.” The Journal wrote that…

“Mr. Trump took an oath to defend the Constitution, and he had a duty as Commander in Chief to protect the Capitol from a mob attacking it in his name. He refused. He didn’t call the military to send help. He didn’t call Mr. Pence to check on the safety of his loyal VP. Instead he fed the mob’s anger and let the riot play out.”

UPDATE II: Liz Cheney drops the truth about Murdoch’s newspapers calling Trump unfit and unworthy to be president again. And she does it on Fox News:

GUILTY Steve Bannon Only Has One Disappointment? And It’s Apparently that He’s a Flaming Moron

Justice was served Friday morning when Donald Trump’s former campaign boss and White House advisor, “Sloppy” Steve Bannon was found guilty on two counts of contempt of Congress. It was a pretty open-and-shut case considering that Bannon didn’t even offer a defense for his having refused to comply with lawful subpoenas.

Click here to Tweet this article

Following the verdict, Bannon gave a statement outside of the courthouse, which has been his practice for the past few days that the trial has been in progress. And true to form, Bannon merely unleashed his incoherent rage in bursts of insults and nonsense. After disingenuously “thanking” the jury that convicted him for “whatever they did,” Bannon babbled…

“I only have one disappointment. And that is the gutless members of that show trial committee, the J6 committee, didn’t have the guts to come down here and testify in open court.”

REALLY? Who wants to tell Bannon that the members of the House Select Committee investigating the insurrection that Trump incited, had no obligation to appear before that court? They had no relevant testimony to contribute. They weren’t even asked to show up. The crime that Bannon was charged with was his failure to comply with a lawful subpoena. The evidence of that was obvious and undisputed. Bannon even bragged about it.

Bannon is actually lucky that Committee members weren’t witnesses at his trial. It would only have made things worse for him as they could have supplied more testimony and documentation of his obvious guilt. And yet, he somehow believes that their absence is his sole disappointment? Yeah, right.

Furthermore, Bannon’s hysterical post-verdict venting was a display of Olympic-grade hypocrisy. It was, after all, Bannon who “didn’t have the guts” to “testify in open court” at his own trial. Nor did he have the guts to testify before the January 6th Committee in support of his almighty messiah Trump. Why is that all of Trump’s most devoted disciples have been too scared to take the oath and tell the truth about him? Which Trump has whined about, despite being the reason for it.

It was Trump who pretended that he could grant executive privilege to potential witnesses so that they would not have to testify. But why would anyone want to prevent testimony from those who they allegedly believed would exonerate them? Even so, Trump eventually released Bannon from that imaginary constraint by waiving the privilege that he didn’t have to begin with. And Bannon still refused to comply with the subpoenas. The only “gutless” party in this matter is Bannon.

However, Bannon has good reason to be afraid. His partner in crime, Trump’s former White House trade advisor, Peter Navarro, has already confessed to allegations associated with Trump’s seditious coup conspiracy, and explicitly named Bannon as a co-conspirator. And although Trump issued him a pardon, Bannon could still be liable for tangential crimes related to his border wall scam that ripped off Trump supporters.

Bannon is now directly challenging Rudy Giuliani for the title of Dumbest Trump-Fluffing Blowhard. And if Giuliani doesn’t make any more appearances fondling himself in Borat movies, Bannon may actually take the lead.

Tucker Carlson Mocks (and Lies About) the January 6th Committee Hearing that Featured Fox News

On Thursday the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection that Donald Trump incited held its eighth session. It was the second session that was broadcast in primetime. The primary focus of this hearing was to provide details about the 187 minutes that the former reality TV game show host did nothing while Congress was under attack by his StormTrumpers.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, QAnon

To be accurate, Trump didn’t actually do nothing. He was earnestly engaged in what is perhaps his favorite pastime, watching television. Specifically, he was watching Fox News for hours and cheering on his army of violent seditionists. He certainly wasn’t performing his duties as president. And the Committee masterfully documented Trump’s blatant and lethal negligence. As Rep. Kinzinger noted

“Whatever your politics, whatever you think about the outcome of the election, we as Americans must all agree on this: Donald Trump’s conduct on January 6th was a supreme violation of his oath of office and a complete dereliction of his duty to our nation.[…] President Trump did not ‘fail’ to act during the 187 minutes between leaving the Ellipse and telling the mob to go home. He ‘chose’ not to act.”

That’s about as righteous a condemnation of Trump’s criminal misconduct as has been articulated since the hearings began. But Trump wasn’t the only subject of condemnation. Fox News was featured in much of the Committee’s presentation. Which is ironic considering that Fox News almost entirely ignored the hearings. Just as they did for the first primetime session, Fox refused to air it live. They are consumed with the fear that their dimwitted viewers might be exposed to some truthful information about their Dear Leader’s malfeasance.

RELATED: Fox News Commits to Keeping Their Viewers Ignorant By Refusing to Air the January 6th Hearings

Consequently, Fox banished the hearings to their low-rated business network, where it couldn’t do much harm to their ultra-MAGA narratives. However, there was a brief mention of the hearings by Fox’s Senior Propagandist, Tucker Carlson. Taking a break from delivering another of his deadly anti-vaccine rants, Carlson babbled that…

“If you’ve ever been in a TV control room, there’s a huge bank of monitors that shows everything that’s on TV. And one of our producers just said that on every other channel they’re playing some kind of January 6th hearing. January 6th? As if that’s the biggest thing going on in America right now.

Now why are they doing this? No one wants to watch it. You know what happened on January 6th. Some guy in Viking horns wandered around on mushrooms and made weird noises, and that was kind of it. It was an ‘insurrection,’ where none the insurrectionists had guns. But it makes the people covering it feel like they lived through Vietnam. More lifestyle liberal narcissism. That’s really the key to everything.”

Not surprisingly, Carlson’s critique was littered with lies. First of all, he’s pretending that his producer had to inform him that the January 6th hearing was in progress. He obviously knew that and was prepared with his pre-packaged and cartoonish put-downs. Secondly, Carlson also knows that the hearings are a major news story because prior broadcasts have garnered huge ratings and their impact has registered in polling.

RELATED: The January 6th Hearings are Driving Public Opinion – And Trump’s Latest Delusional Meltdown

So Carlson’s assertion that “No one wants to watch it,” is pure bullpucky. As is his belittling of the rioters as harmless characters who “wandered around on mushrooms and made weird noises.” Carlson left out that they broke windows, battered down doors, terrorized members of Congress and their staff, and injured more than 140 law enforcement officers, including five who died.

Carlson also lied about the insurrectionists not having guns. Numerous reports document that the rioters were armed at the Capitol and had more weapons stashed nearby. Trump even admitted that he was aware that they were armed and didn’t care because “they aren’t here to hurt me.”

Sean Hannity also briefly covered the hearing, just long enough to call it “a one-sided political smear,” and to blame Democrats for the riots. But if the hearings are one-sided, it’s because almost all of the witnesses giving their accounts under oath are Republicans who worked for Trump. What’s more, Hannity had no evidence to support his contention that Democrats were to blame for the riots that were populated solely by Trump supporters.

It’s too bad that Fox News declined to let their audience see any of the hearings. Because they were referenced several times. Most notably when Committee Vice-Chair Liz Cheney said that…

“We know from employees this TV was tuned to Fox News all afternoon. Here you can see Fox News on the TV showing coverage of the joint session that was airing that day at 1:25. Other witnesses confirm that president Trump was in the dining room with the TV on for more than two and a half hours.”

So although Trump could watch Fox News while the insurrection was in progress, Fox’s viewers couldn’t be told that fact. Not that they would have watched if it were shown. While the ratings for MSNBC, CNN, and the broadcast networks all spiked sharply during the hearings, When Fox aired them during the day they actually lost viewers. Their audience simply can’t handle the truth. It’s a condition that Fox has nurtured in them over many years of cult indoctrination.

Fox News Legal ‘Expert’ Thinks that ‘Trial of Your Peers’ Means a Jury of All Trump Toadies

The Trump-fluffers at Fox News are clearly starting to worry about the fate of their Dear Leader Donald Trump. They are beginning to shift their propaganda from malicious mockery of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection incited by Trump, to outright contempt for the American justice system.

Fox News, Constitution

There is no clearer sign that Fox News is worried about Trump’s legal peril than their frantic criticism of the courts that will hear his cases. They appear to be accepting the likelihood that Trump will be indicted and that he will have to face a judge and jury to account for his multitude of crimes that run the gamut from financial fraud to sedition.

RELATED: Trump’s Reelection Campaign is Stealing Millions of his Donors’ Dollars for His Legal Bills

Mark Levin is a weekend Fox News host who was once an attorney. He served as chief of staff to disgraced Reagan Attorney General, Edwin Meese. His Fox program is a weekly hour of lies and hate in the service of Trumpism. And this weeks episode was a perfect example of just how low this shameless sycophant will go. In a segment devoted to absolving Trump of any wrongdoing, Levin unleashed a bizarre mangling of legal analysis, saying that…

“If you have a trial and the jury is made up of individuals out of a pool of overwhelmingly partisan Democrats who voted for the opposition – who either voted for Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden – and you have a former president or his surrogates facing that jury, how in the hell are they gonna get a fair trial?

“This whole thing is rigged. It’s a disgrace. From this Committee, to the U.S. Attorney, to the Attorney General of the United States, to the so-called Justice process in Washington, D.C. Why don’t they hold it, if they’re gonna hold it anywhere else, in Utah, or Idaho, or some place like that? No, that would never happen.”

It’s hard to imagine that this cretin ever practiced law. He has no idea what the concept of a “jury of your peers” means. Apparently Levin believes that a defendant should be allowed to select his jurors based on their affinity for the defendant. That’s why the only place he thinks Trump could get a fair trial is in a place like Idaho. That’s not how it works. A jury of peers, in this context, means members of the community where the crime took place. It doesn’t mean a group of those who voted for you.

It isn’t a coincidence that Levin, in his criticism of the justice system, is parroting the language that Trump uses. He asserts, without evidence, that it is “rigged” and a “disgrace.” You could easily mistake his complaints for any random Trump rant about the 2020 presidential election that he lost. And despite Levin’s whining about this trumped up travesty of justice, you know that he would be outraged if a Democrat insisted that a trial be moved to a precinct of lefties in a staunchly blue state.

Levin followed up that perversion of legal principles with an interview of the Chair of the House Republican Conference, Elise Stefanik. Her grasp of the law was no better than Levin’s In the suck-up interview, Stefanik recklessly accused President Biden and his family of being criminals, despite not having a shred of evidence to back up that charge:

“You have the entire Joe Biden family profiting personally off of Joe Biden’s position when he was a sitting vice-president. That is unacceptable in America and imagine if the Republicans ever did that? Democrats would be investigating every aspect of that. And yet in this case they look the other way on all these shameful, shameless, and illegal controversies of Hunter Biden.”

Once again, neither Stefanik, nor any other Republican shill, can produce any proof of any crime by the Bidens. They just relentlessly repeat the allegation in the hope that it sticks and tarnishes their reputations. And the gall of her invitation to “imagine if the Republicans ever did that,” is mind-boggling, considering all of the documented financial improprieties of Trump, Don Jr, Eric, and Ivanka. They were actually prohibited by law from running any charities in New York after being found to have robbed their phony foundation to line their own pockets.

Stefanik went on to disparage the January 6th Committee, which she called (of course) a “witch hunt.” And she complained that Republicans had no ability to appoint members to the Committee, which is a blatant lie. They chose not to appoint any members so that they could later pretend that the Committee was partisan.

There is an unmistakable stench of defeat in how Fox News and the Republican Party are reconfiguring their strategy to account for the likelihood of Trump indictments. They know that he’s guilty and they are scrambling to find a way to spin it. But the only thing that they are succeeding in doing is to make Trump look more guilty, and themselves more ignorant and desperate.

REPORT: Trump is ‘Fixated’ on the January 6th Hearings and Obsessed with How He is Coming Across

The House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection has produced an abundance of documents and testimony incriminating Donald Trump and many of his seditious co-conspirators. And most of what they have discovered was provided by Republicans who worked for Trump in the White House and his campaigns. No wonder Trump is scared witless about what his former staffers are saying.

Donald Trump, Snowflakes

Throughout the past several weeks that the hearings have been conducted, Trump, and the MAGA media that fawns over him, have dismissed the proceedings as a pointless waste of time that is full of lies and that no one is watching. You might ask how they know about the alleged lying if they aren’t watching.

The truth is that the American people are paying close attention to the hearings. The ratings have been through the roof, with CNN and MSNBC frequently beating Fox News, where the hearings are often ignored. And the resulting change in public opinion is also showing up in recent polling that shows majorities believing that Trump is guilty of inciting the riots on Capitol Hill, and other crimes.

RELATED: Cassidy Hutchinson Testimony for the January 6th Committee Breaks TV Viewing Records

Among the viewers who pretend not to be interested is Trump himself. Never mind that he has been relentlessly whining about what the hearings are revealing. As proof of his emotional retardation, he has labeled the congressional panel the “Unselect Committee” and posts goofy nicknames for its members. It won’t be long before he’s calling them “poopyheads.” But it is clear that he is paying attention. As reported by CNN (video below)

“Former President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly downplayed the significance of the hearings by the House select committee investigating January 6, 2021, has regularly asked those around him in recent days when the televised hearings are going to end — underscoring his private fixation on the damning revelations revealed by some of the committee’s witnesses.

“The six public hearings held thus far have been more effective than many in Trump’s orbit anticipated, including when a former White House aide testified publicly about his behavior the day of the Capitol insurrection.”

According to CNN, sources close to Trump say that he, “has been unable to look away from the hearings,” and has lashed out in profanity-laced tirades because “no one is on the dais defending him.” However, the absence of his defenders is due to GOP minority leader Kevin McCarthy’s pigheaded stubbornness. He refused to appoint any non-compromised Republicans to the panel.

What’s more, Trump’s allies have all refused to show up and testify under oath, even when compelled by subpoenas. That is likely because they are afraid of incriminating themselves and/or their Dear Leader. And of course, Trump could defend himself before the Committee if he weren’t such a coward and so obviously guilty.

The sad truth for Trump is that there is no defense for his treasonous acts. And more evidence is being uncovered daily that should lead to indictments and prosecution. Trump knows this and is sweating it out and badgering his friends privately, while making a fool of himself publicly with his tedious yammering about nonexistent election fraud. It’s a pathetic display that is only bound to get worse going forward.
