Watch Sean Hannity Desperately Struggle – and Fail – to Get Trump to Say Putin is Evil

Donald Trump is so beholden to Vladimir Putin that for years he has been utterly incapable of expressing even the most moderate criticism of the Russian tyrant. Even worse, Trump not only refuses to condemn Putin, he slavishly praises him. It doesn’t matter what atrocities Putin is responsible for. Trump remains unflinchingly adoring.

Donald Trump Sean Hannity

On Thursday Trump held another of his lazy, pajama-clad, phone-in fluffing sessions on Fox News. He called in to Sean Hannity’s show, from his Mar-a-Lago bedroom, to get his ego juiced and to disgorge more of his deviant distortions of reality. In the following exchange Hannity doggedly labored to get Trump to simply concede that Putin might be capable of doing something even negligibly naughty, like launching a genocidal assault on the peaceful neighboring country of Ukraine:

Hannity: I’ve known you well over 25 years, and you got criticized for saying that Vladimir Putin smart. We’ve had many conversations and you’ve often told it to me, Sun Tsu, The Art of War, ‘Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Is that how you viewed Vladimir. people like Vladimir Putin, President Xi, and Kim Jung Un, and the Iranian mullahs, as enemies that you needed to keep close?
Trump: I got along with these people. I got along with them well, That doesn’t mean they are good people. That doesn’t mean anything other than the fact that I understood them, and perhaps they understood me. Maybe they understood me even better. That’s okay, because they knew there would be a big penalty. […]
Hannity: I want to understand your thinking, though. And the thinking is: We got along, but you knew that they were looking out for their interests at all times. And you understood that they were capable of evil things.
Trump: Putin is for Russia, and you see what happened. And that is all because they didn’t respect our leader. Look, there was nobody – and Putin will tell you this, if he was telling the truth, and I am sure he has told it to all of his inner sanctum – nobody was tougher on Russia than me.

First of all, there is little possibility that Trump has ever read, or heard of, Sun Tzu. And he certainly doesn’t practice keeping his enemies close. To the contrary, Trump banishes anyone who disagrees with him about even the most trivial things. That’s why during his single term occupying the White House he had so many attorneys general, chiefs of staff, press secretaries, etc., who he later castigated as incompetents that were never fit to serve (see his recent flogging of Bill Barr as an example). Which makes one wonder why he hired all of them in the first place.

The most important thing that Trump wants people to take away from this “interview” is that he got along swimmingly with numerous brutal dictators who despise America. And even after Hannity’s repeated attempts to gently put the words directly into Trump’s mouth, he was conspicuously incapable of just agreeing with Hannity that Putin could possibly do anything evil. In fact, Trump actually blamed President Biden for Putin’s invasion of Ukraine because, according to Trump, Putin doesn’t respect him. Although Trump is certain that he has Putin’s respect, despite (or because of) the fact that he has no idea what what to about about Ukraine.

Trump tops off this babbling by regurgitating his ludicrous claim that “nobody was tougher on Russia” than he was. Apparently what Trump considers “tough” is revoking Russian sanctions, advocating for reinstatement to the G7, publicly declaring that he trusts Putin more than U.S. intelligence agencies, bashing Putin’s foes NATO and the EU, and gushing over what a genius he was for invading Ukraine.

Obviously, Trump’s idea of being tough on Putin amounts to kissing his … let’s say ring. Because that’s all that Trump has done for years. And you know it’s true love, and/or total subservience, when even his pal Hannity couldn’t get Trump to extract his lips from Putin’s posterior.

Trump’s WH Press Secretary, Stephanie Grisham, Reveals He Envied Putin’s Ability to Kill Critics

The well documented evidence of Donald Trump’s seething sociopathy just got bolstered by one of his closest advisors. Trump’s former press secretary, Stephanie Grisham, worked for him starting with his 2016 campaign, and was promoted throughout his occupancy of the White House, eventually to communications director. She was a close and trusted confidant with intimate access to all of Trump’s activities.

Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin

However, since Trump’s electoral loss in 2020, Grisham has reappraised her service to the twice-impeached megalomaniac. Her deliverance from the Cult of Trump began when she witnessed his real-time response to the January 6th insurrection, which was unbridled glee. Last year she published a tell-all book about her experiences in the cult.

Grisham remains a staunch critic of Trump, and says she is now “terrified” by the prospect of him running for president again. She isn’t alone. She appeared on ABC’s “The View” Wednesday with some additional reasons to be afraid of Trump’s continuing aspirations for power. She spoke specifically of Trump’s infatuation with brutal tyrants in general, and Vladimir Putin in particular:

“He really admired Putin. And I saw that first hand. I saw him say to Putin, ‘Hey, I’m gonna be tough on you in front of the cameras, you understand? And once the cameras are gone we’ll have a real conversation.'”

Grisham elaborated saying that Trump “was afraid of” Putin, and also that “he admired him greatly:”

“I think that he wanted to be able to kill whoever spoke out against him. […] He loved the dictators. He loved the people who could kill anyone, including the press.

Grisham isn’t the only one to reveal Trump’s craving to assassinate journalists. Trump said so himself during a summit with Putin. After expressing his desire to “get rid of” those pesky reporters, Trump engaged in this exchange with with his BFF:

Trump: Fake … fake news. Great term, isn’t it? You don’t have that problem in Russia. We have it. You don’t have it.
Putin: Yes, yes. We also have. It’s the same.

Trump was obviously envious of what he thought was Putin’s freedom from having to deal with a free press. But Putin’s correction needs a little context. The only reason reason he doesn’t have the same problem with reporters in Russia is because he has any who are critical of him killed. Which is what Trump is so clearly jealous of. He wants unflinching devotion from everyone. And that includes the American people. He once articulated his wish that Americans would worship him like North Koreans worship Kim Jong Un.

It’s astonishing that, with all the documentation of Trump’s diseased mentality and malignant narcissism, that anyone could still support him. But that’s the nature of a cult. And his followers are fully indoctrinated. Which makes them imminently dangerous. They are also outnumbered by decent and sane citizens. We just need to be certain that they remain engaged and turn out to vote. The alternative is unthinkable.

When a Fox News Shill Finally Admits He’s Wrong, but Still Blames it on the the Black VP

Leave it to Fox News to find a way to absolve itself of all guilt for monumental mistakes that they actually admit to having made. That’s what Tucker Carlson managed to do on the Thursday night episode of his notoriously wrong program when he conceded that he misjudged the magnitude of the catastrophe in Ukraine.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News Commies

Carlson has been wrong about virtually everything he’s said about Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, a nation whose citizens are being slaughtered or forced to become refugees. From the start Carlson has embraced Vladimir Putin and even argued against sanctions or any effort to depose him.

However, now the news from Ukraine has gotten even more grim. More than a million Ukrainians have fled the country, and Putin’s forces are attacking a nuclear power plant. In light of this, Carlson is trying to walk back his prior support for Russia (video below) by pretending to take the matter more seriously. He has finally conceded that Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has produced a catastrophe that is “spinning out of control” and …

“That, we must be honest, is shocking to us. We’ve been taken by surprise by the whole thing. We’re not the only ones who were. But we’re willing to admit it. The only think more embarrassing in being wrong in your estimates is pretending that you weren’t.”

Carlson’s contention that he “must be honest” would be a first for him. But at least he appears to be taking some responsibility for his grossly flawed analyses in the recent past. Although there is something that is even more embarrassing than pretending you weren’t wrong. That’s pretending that somebody else was responsible for your being wrong. Which is what Carlson did…

“So why didn’t we see this coming, this total loss of control? Well, because we assumed that if things were dire, serious people would be involved in fixing them. But we looked up and we saw Kamala Harris involved and that reassured us.

“Harris had just come back from Europe where she’d been conducting diplomacy with our allies, and that appeared to be proof that this could not really be a big deal. If the situation in Ukraine had been legitimately serious, if the future of Europe and the world hung in the balance, as now so obviously it does, of course the Biden administration would not have sent Kamala Harris to fix it. Cause that’s not her job.”

So it wasn’t Carlson’s fault at all that he was wrong. It was just because he relied on his own ludicrous appraisal of Harris as being an irrelevant fixture in the White House. Harris, of course, is the Vice-President of the United States, a former U.S. senator, and former California Attorney General. And she and Biden were right all along in predicting that Putin would invade. But Carlson, wearing his smug sarcasm face, sought to belittle the VP’s duties. In his warped perspective…

“Kamala Harris’ job is to trot down to the blue room periodically to greet delegations of Tik Tok influencers, or cut PSAs for dental health care awareness month, which is in February, so we assumed she’d be working on that right now. But averting war with Russia? Saving the civilize world? Come on. That’s absolutely no Kamala Harris’ job.”

It is absolutely not Tucker Carlson’s job to define what Kamala Harris’ job is. That is President Biden’s job. And many presidents have given important assignments to their vice-presidents. Trump, you may recall, made Mike Pence his White House Commander of the Space Force. As for Carlson, his job is to spread ignorance, lies, propaganda, and racism on behalf a former reality TV game show host (Donald Trump) and a foreign born, ultra-rightist media magnate (Rupert Murdoch). But by his own admission, Carlson made assumptions that led to his admittedly erroneous analysis of the Ukraine situation…

“That was our assumption. But, as noted, we were wrong. Why were we wrong? Well, we spend a lot of time watching Kamala Harris. You probably don’t. Unless you are a junior producer at MSNBC, you’re probably not that familiar with Kamala Harris. We should say, by the way, that we didn’t underestimate Vladimir Putin, we overestimated Joe Biden.”

Now, in addition to Carlson blaming his own cognitive failures on the Black woman VP, he is implying that his viewers are too stupid to know anything about her. Well, as he said earlier, he “must be honest,” and this time he is. At least with respect to his assessment of the intelligence of his audience.

It’s fitting that Carlson closed by taking another swipe at Biden and planting another wet kiss on his hero, Vladimir. The blatantly unpatriotic stance taken by Carlson, and his confederates at Fox News, is the most consistent feature of Fox and the Republican Party for whom it is the PR machine.

It’s just too bad that such toxic anti-Americanism continues to be disseminated by greedy television distributors. They recently saw the light and ditched the RT (Russia Today) channel because of its ties to, and support for Russia. They would do well now to cancel the primary source of Russian propaganda in America, Fox News.

Fox News Senior Putin Apologist, Tucker Carlson, Pleads to Keep the Russian Dictator in Power

As the situation in Ukraine grows more dire every day, Fox News grows more diarrheal, excreting vast quantities of waste matter that only matters to the deluded deplorables who are glued to the network’s lies and propaganda. And leading the discharge is Fox’s top rated Tucker Carlson, who has distinguished himself of late as Russia’s favorite American turncoat.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Tucker Carlson

In recent weeks Carlson has itemized his reasons for why nobody should hate Vladimir Putin, even as Putin leads Russia’s murderous rampage in Ukraine. Carlson is articulating precisely the same opinion that Donald Trump has of Putin. And they both have the same infatuation with Donald Trump.

Carlson briefly tried to moderate his Putin lust. But it was such an awkward feat of hypocrisy that he couldn’t sustain it for more than a day or two. So now Carlson is back to drooling adoringly and defending Putin. On his Wednesday night program he delivered a dialogue opposing the sanctions that the U.S. and most of the free world are imposing on Russia. And if that weren’t bad enough, Carlson also made a plaintive plea on behalf of Putin keeping his job as Russia’s top totalitarian tyrant.

Carlson began by asserting that he would withhold judgment on whether the course of action taken by the NATO alliance was a wise course. Which was followed by him unleashing the judgment he just finished saying he would withhold. He sarcastically whined that reflecting on moral implications, or thinking about your own country is a crime, and even treasonous. Then Carlson dived into one of favorite pastimes, asking asinine rhetorical questions:

“What’s the point of all of this? Putin is bad. No one in America is gonna argue with that [except Carlson, Trump and other right-wingers already have]. But will destroying the entire Russian economy make Putin less bad? Will it make Russian troops withdraw from Ukraine? And if it will, how exactly will that work, and how long will it take?

Or is the plan even bigger than that? If they did, we can force Vladimir Putin from office entirely. Okay. Will that work? And if it does work, what happens to Russia after Vladimir Putin leaves? Would the next Russian president be an improvement over Putin?”

So Carlson, with his BA in history and no experience in diplomacy, is against the stiff sanctions that the rest of the world’s most knowledgeable foreign policy experts think are necessary and effective. That’s so considerate of him to be worried about his Russian oligarch pals, rather than the people of Ukraine who are being slaughtered and forced to leave their homeland as refugees.

Even worse, Carlson is arguing that Putin should be allowed to remain in power because his successor could be worse. Do you suppose that Carlson would have used the same argument for keeping Hitler in power? Apparently he believes that all of the world’s monstrous leaders should be left to commit whatever crimes against humanity they like.

Obviously that doctrine is pure idiocy. If there is a genocidal madman running a nation and attacking other nations, he needs to be constrained and, if necessary, removed from power. You worry about his successor, who under the circumstance is likely to be more moderate or suffer the same fate, after you excise the immediate problem. Unless, that is, you are Tucker Carlson and you have a fuehrer fetish. Which is, by the way, what draws him to Trump.

HUH? Fox News Phony Tucker Carlson Repudiates Tucker Carlson for Rooting for Putin

Spotting lies and hypocrisy on Fox News has never been an especially difficult task. It’s actually been a regular feature of their programming from its earliest days. And nowhere is that more apparent than on the primetime airing of the “Human Manure Spreader,” Tucker Carlson. In fact, it happens with such frequency that the network argued in court (successfully) that no reasonable person would take Carlson seriously.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson

The only problem with the “reasonable person” standard is that there are so many unreasonable persons watching – and appearing on – Fox News. And this was evident on Monday night’s episode when Carlson advanced his abhorrent asininity in a twenty minute tirade that sought to erase the record of his treasonous support for Russia over Ukraine, the United States, and our international allies.

Just last week Carlson delivered a drooling televised love letter to Putin with all of the reasons he admired the brutal dictator, and why nobody should hate him. It’s a doctrine that mirrors identically that of Putin lover Donald Trump, who Carlson is also hopelessly infatuated with.

Carlson began his harangue (video below) ranting that…

“On Twitter, you see Democrats pretending that their political opponents are responsible for the invasion and somehow support it. […] In this country, virtually everyone understands that the invasion of Ukraine is bad. It’s bad for us and for the world. And Vladimir Putin is bad too. So, effectively in America, those are settled facts. We can stop debating them.”

That is a 180 degree turnaround from everything that Carlson has been babbling about for the past week. And for him to say now that “Putin is bad” suggests a measure of hypocrisy that obliterates the scale. He has literally declared that he is backing Russia in this war:

“Why do I care about what’s going on in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia? And why shouldn’t I root for Russia, because I am.”

Carlson went on to complain about Democrats justifiably criticizing Republicans who support Russia and/or Putin, saying “Isn’t war the moment for unity?” That was in the very same harangue wherein he lambasted Democrats and blamed Biden for Russia invading Ukraine. So much for unity.

Carlson also took Rep. Eric Swalwell to task for saying that…

“We have Republicans who are rooting for Russia and that makes it very hard for President Biden to get the whole country to go along when Donald Trump, Mike Pompeo and Tucker Carlson are rooting for Russians and that’s being replayed on Russia TV to rally Russians for this cause.”

Mr. Swalwell had his own succinct reply to Carlson questioning why he would say such a thing…

(full transcript here on Fox News website)

Carlson’s histrionics continued with nonsense like his claim that Democrats “were telling us that sanctions and arming the Ukrainian military would prevent a Russian invasion.” Wrong. They were hoping that such measures would prevent an invasion, but were prepared to go farther if they didn’t.

Carlson also claimed that “No one defended the riot on January 6th. We certainly didn’t.” Of course, that is blatantly untrue. Many Republicans, including (especially) Trump, defended the insurrection and praised the rioters as patriots. And Carlson himself produced a crocumentary asserting that the the whole thing was a “false flag” operation staged by the FBI, and that the rioters were victims.

So now that the country – and the world – is expressing their disgust with Russia’s unprovoked attack on Ukraine, Carlson is trying to sanitize his solidarity with the monstrous Putin regime. This might work with the dimwits who willfully believe his lies, but the majority of the American people have memories that go back farther than a week.

And then there’s this…

Trump’s Ego and Fear is Totally Out of Control in Monday Morning Rage-Tweeting

Throughout his occupation of the White House, Donald Trump demonstrated his servile obedience to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. Not only did he never utter a word of criticism, he slavishly praised Putin at every opportunity. That craven toadyism continued, and even escalated, since returning to civilian life.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump, Padded Cell

However, Trump may have exceeded the boundaries of tolerance within which he has managed to get away with undermining American interests and subverting democracy. His noxious fawning over Putin during the hellacious assault on Ukraine has caused some of his most devoted disciples to back away. And in the face of that retreat, Trump is trying to overcompensate for his fear by pumping up his already gargantuan ego.

In a pair of desperate but impotent tweets on Monday morning, Trump lavished himself with ludicrous accolades. That’s nothing new for the malignant narcissist of Mar-a-Lago. But the quantity and the dishonesty he is capable of is still pretty impressive in a nauseating way. In his brief tweet tantrums Trump bragged that…

“I hope everyone is able to remember that it was me, as President of the United States, that got delinquent NATO members to start paying their dues.”

“There would be no NATO if I didn’t act strongly and swiftly.”

It was me that got Ukraine the very effective anti-tank busters (Javelins).’

If my energy policy had remained in place…the world would have had no problems whatsoever.”

“If the Election wasn’t Rigged, America would right now continue to have record-low gas prices, as it was under my Administration.”

There is so much wrong in that that it deserves some further attention.

First of all, Trump is trying to take credit for saving NATO. Never mind that he has repeatedly attacked NATO, calling it “obsolete” and sought to withdraw from it. He was serving Putin’s purpose by attempting to weaken the alliance. And he’s flagrantly lying about having raised hundreds of billions of dollars by getting member nations to pay their dues. There are no “dues” to belong to NATO. Just voluntary defense budget goals. And Trump didn’t even have any impact on that.

The Javelin missiles he’s referring to are the ones that he actually used to try to blackmail Ukraine into fabricating dirt about then-candidate Joe Biden. That’s why Trump was impeached the first time. And the funding for those weapons was actually allocated by Congress during the Obama administration. It was Trump who obstructed their delivery.

Trump’s energy policy did not produce energy independence. That was achieved prior to his election, and it was lost in 2020, during his term. The low gas prices he touted were the result of a deadly pandemic (that was exacerbated by his incompetence) during which the demand – and therefore the price – of gas dropped. And the notion that the U.S. has oil resources could exceed Saudi Arabia and Russia combined is pure insanity. As is his ridiculous assertion that “the world would have had no problems whatsoever” were he he still in charge. The world has not forgotten that during his term in office there were nothing but problems.

However, Trump is right that the war in Ukraine should never have happened. But notice that Trump doesn’t – and hasn’t ever – criticized Vladimir Putin for having started the war. In fact, Trump blames it on the “rigged” election, which to him is the cause of everything from the extinction of the dinosaurs to tooth decay.

Trump is displaying the classic symptoms of malignant narcissist. He is psychologically incapable of acknowledging any personal faults. So he will blame whatever is going badly on someone/anyone else, and invent things to congratulate himself for. We can expect this sort of deranged behavior to continue, and to become even more severe, as his world falls apart around him.

Hopefully, we can mitigate the harm that he and his cult followers are capable of creating. The next couple of years will be challenging for America and for the sane and responsible Americans.

Trump Doubles Down on His Treasonous Putin Puffery While Continuing to Insult Biden and America

Donald Trump simply refuses to let a single day go by without contaminating every public debate with his diseased and delusional misperceptions of the world. And Saturday was no different as he spoke at the ultra-rightist Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). His address to the CPAC crowd was predictably riddled with lies and exaltations of himself.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin

Among Trump’s preposterous observations was a reprise of his theory for why Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine. According to Trump it was because of the “rigged” 2020 presidential election. Because what atrocity isn’t the result of that throbbing thorn in his tiny paw? He also tried to sell the absurdity that Putin wouldn’t have invaded Ukraine if he was still president. Although there’s some kernel of truth to that. Putin wouldn’t have needed to invade Ukraine because Trump was giving him all the things he wanted the invasion to produce: weaken NATO and the EU, expand Russia’s sphere of influence, sow discord among Western allies, and throw American democracy into disarray.

True to form, Trump elaborated on his recent comments celebrating the intellect of his hero, Vladimir, whom he regaled as “smart,” “savvy,” and a “genius.” He told his glassy-eyed cult followers that…

“Yesterday reporters asked me if I thought President Putin was smart. I said ‘Of course he’s smart.’ To which I was greeted with ‘Oh, that’s such a terrible thing to say.’ The NATO nations, and indeed the world, as he looks over what’s happening strategically, with no repercussions or threats whatsoever, they’re not so smart. They’re looking the opposite of smart.

If you take over Ukraine we’re going to sanction you, they say. Sanction? Well, that’s a pretty weak statement. Putin is saying ‘Oh, they’re gonna sanction me. They’ve sanctioned me for the last twenty-five years. You mean I can take over a whole country and they’re gonna sanction me? You mean they’re not gonna blow us to pieces, at least psychologically?’ The problem is not that Putin is smart, which of course he’s smart. But the real problem is that our leaders are dumb. Dumb!”

First of all, Trump’s account of how he came to fawn over Putin is pure fiction. He wasn’t asked anything about this by reporters. He offered up his Putin praise unprompted at a Republican fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago. And yes, it is a terrible thing to say while the object of his affection was committing war crimes against innocent Ukrainians.

Furthermore, Trump’s assertion that there were “no repercussions or threats” from NATO allies is a deliberate distortion of reality. NATO and President Biden made it clear that Putin would suffer swift and severe consequences if he went through with his invasion plans. Despite Trump’s ignorant belittling of the impact of sanctions, most experts agree that they will critically hamper Russia’s economy and its ability to sustain an occupation of Ukraine.

Note also that Trump’s implied solution is a military response to “blow [the Russians] to pieces.” That’s the sort reckless reaction that could escalate the crisis into the next world war. and it’s typical of his faux bravado. However, during an interview with Fox News Digital at CPAC, Trump displayed his impotence when asked if he had a message to Putin. The ordinarily blustering, pseudo-strongman replied weakly that “I have no message. I just think it’s a shame that this is going on.” It’s a shame? Well, that should make Putin squirm.

Finally, Trump doubles down on his adoration of Putin’s brilliance. But this time Trump embellishes it by insulting America’s leaders as “dumb.” And again, this comes during a time of conflict wherein Trump’s views can only be seen as emboldening the enemy. No doubt his remarks will be played repeatedly on Russian television. Just like the remarks by Fox News Putin lover, Tucker Carlson.

The propaganda value of a former president of the United States favoring Putin over the current president is incalculable. Which makes it unarguably treasonous on Trump’s part. Thankfully, we have a current president who knows precisely how to smack down a paper tiger like Trump. When asked what he though of Trump’s praise of Putin’s alleged genius, President Biden replied…

“I put as much stock in Trump saying that Putin’s a genius as I do when he called himself a stable genius.”

Hillary Clinton Hammers the Trump-Fluffing, Democracy-Hating, Radicalized Republican Party

The Republican Party in the era of Donald Trump has become a grotesque and dangerous political aberration. In its current rancid state it would be unrecognizable to members who recall even the relatively recent past when still hardcore conservatives like Bush and Reagan were its leaders.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Hillary Clinton

The Trumpists have transformed the GOP into a cult of personality wherein total obeisance to Dear Leader is mandated, and any deviation from total devotion is viewed as unforgivable disloyalty and sacrilege.

The manifestation of this amoral ministry is evident in the Party’s adoption of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin as a hallowed figure who is sanctified by Trump and favored by the Republican base over the popularly elected President Biden. Even the brutal invasion of Ukraine couldn’t pry a critical word about Putin from Trump. And Trump’s Propaganda Politburo (aka Fox News) was singing from the same hymnal. Especially Putin lover Tucker Carlson.

This decaying of a once mainstream party has not gone unnoticed. And the latest observer to raise a red flag is former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. In an op-ed in The Atlantic, Clinton wrote about “A State of Emergency for Democracy.” The article made the point that “Trump has always had a personal attachment to Putin.” But Clinton went further to highlight how the rot has traveled down from the fish’s head (Trump) to its body (the GOP). What follows are a few choice excerpts:

“Russian president Vladimir Putin pines for the old Russian empire and takes Ukraine’s independence as a personal affront. But the invasion of Ukraine is not a limited regional dispute between neighbors. […] Ukraine is one flash point in a larger global struggle between democracy and autocracy — one that stretches from the steppes of Eastern Europe to the waters of the Indo-Pacific to the halls of the U.S. Capitol.”

“Much has been said about the assault on American democracy by a radicalized Republican Party […] Republican leaders are abandoning core tenets of American democracy.”

“It was dismaying but not surprising that Trump praised Putin’s move to recognize and occupy separatist enclaves in Ukraine as ‘genius’ and ‘savvy.’ That’s what we have come to expect from Trump. But even Republican leaders who still take a Reaganesque view of America’s role in the world and talk a good game about deterring Russia and competing with China are undercutting those goals by aiding and abetting Trump’s attacks on America’s democratic institutions.”

“Those Republican leaders promising tough sanctions on Putin’s economy and inner circle seem helpless to tamp down the pro-Russian sentiment in their party ignited by Trump, fanned on a daily basis by Tucker Carlson on Fox News.”

Clinton was remarkably prescient about the dangers of a Trump presidency and his unsavory association with Russia and Putin. In August of 2016 she posted an article on her website that asked “5 questions every voter should ask about Donald Trump’s bizarre relationship with Russia.” Voters still need to ask those questions. However, it isn’t just voters who should be questioning Trump and his Republican confederates. The media, the Democrats, and even conscientious Republicans (the few that might be left) should be concerned about the direction the GOP has taken.

Clinton’s op-ed is a comprehensive analysis of the disintegration of the Republican Party. It’s no wonder that Trump and his cult followers are so adamant about destroying her. They recently embarked on a campaign falsely accusing her of spying on Trump. And Trump himself has suggested that Clinton should be executed for the imaginary crimes he’s accusing her of. That’s the demented leader of today’s Republican Party. And the rest of his glassy-eyed flock is faithfully following his lead.

Fox News’ Stupid Son of a Doocy Asks Biden: Did You Underestimate ‘Worthy Adversary’ Putin?

President Joe Biden held a press conference on Thursday to inform the American people about what the administration is doing in response to Russia’s “unprovoked and unjustified” invasion of Ukraine (full video below). He revealed that the United States and it allies would immediately impose a set of severe economic sanctions to punish Putin’s brutal aggression. “Putin chose this war,” Biden said. “And now he and his country will bear the consequences.”

Fox News, Peter Doocy

Ordinarily, at times like these, the nation comes together to present a united front against such militaristic assaults on innocent and peaceful allies. However, Donald Trump’s Republican Party is already staking out a position that has been blatantly pro-Putin, as Trump has been doing himself.

So leave it to Fox News to contrive a question for Biden that frames the conflict in a decidedly warped perspective. When Biden called on Fox’s Peter Doocy, he asked the President the following question:

“Did you underestimate Putin and would you still describe him the way that you did in the summer, as a ‘worthy adversary’?”

With questions like this, can anyone fault Biden for having muttered under his breath last month that Doocy was a stupid son of a bitch? Someone needs to tell Doocy that his own question contradicts his biased premise. If Putin was described as “a worthy adversary,” then, by definition, he wasn’t underestimated. And that was the essence of Biden’s reply:

“I made it clear he was an adversary and I said that he was worthy. I didn’t underestimate him. … You heard the speech he made, almost an hour’s worth of speech as to why he was going into Ukraine. He has much larger ambitions than Ukraine. He wants to, in fact, reestablish the former Soviet Union. That is what this is about. And I think his ambitions are completely contrary to the place where the rest of the world has arrived.”

This is typical of how Doocy – and pretty much all of Fox’s openly partisan correspondents and pundits – approach questioning of Biden. There is no intention to obtain useful information or to bring understanding to their viewers. Their sole purpose is to create a negative narrative, and then to plant it into the minds of the willfully ignorant Fox audience.

That’s bad enough when it just involves conventional politics and policies. But when they use it to distort the circumstances surrounding a wartime crisis, it is irresponsible and destructive. And it can exacerbate the harm and hardships of both the American people and the victims of Putin’s aggression in Ukraine.

Unfortunately, the only thing that Fox News cares about is maligning Biden and the Democrats. And if it hurts the country and its interests, that’s just too bad. At Fox News, party and partisanship always come before country or the people.

Trump Phones Into Fox News to Offer His Idiotic, Egomaniacal Take on Putin’s Invasion of Ukraine

Russia’s most aggressively ambitious tyrant in 70 years, Vladimir Putin, has launched the attack on Ukraine that many people, including President Biden, were expecting. It is certain to result in needless hardship and human loss. And it comes at time when America’s right-wing Republican Trump cult has been shamelessly praising Putin and bitterly maligning Biden.

Donald Trump himself has been engaged in non-stop America-bashing. So it should come as no surprise that, in this moment of crisis, he would emerge from his Mar-a-Lago bunker to disgorge his utterly repugnant and worthless perspective on the tragedy that has befallen Ukraine. And that emergence would be facilitated, of course, by his anti-American Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News.

While the Russian invasion was still in progress, Trump called in to Fox News chat with devoted Trump-fluffer, Laura Ingraham (video below). And in the seven and a half minutes that she sucked up to him, Trump babbled, deflected, and exalted himself. But never once offered meaningful counsel, condolences to the Ukrainian people, or condemnation of his soul mate, Vladimir Putin and Russia. Ingraham asked a total of three questions, which Trump barely paid any attention to:

Ingraham’s First Question: You’re watching this unfold. You’re reaction to Putin’s threat if any Western nation, or any nation, intervenes with this Russian military action.
Trump: Well, this is something that should have never happened. It would not have happened during my administration. In fact. some people were saying why didn’t this take place over the last four years during our administration. And it didn’t for a very good reason. And I’ll explain that to you some day. But it wouldn’t have taken place. And it wouldn’t have taken place right now. And it’s a very sad thing for the world, for the country, and it’s certainly very sad for a lot of people that are gonna be needlessly killed.

Notice that Trump completely evaded the question. His answer to Ingraham asking for his “reaction to Putin’s threat if any nation intervenes,” was “This would not have happened during my administration,” which he repeated four times like a blathering crackhead. He had no idea how to respond to Putin’s threat, so he wrapped himself in a narcissistic cocoon, fixated on his delusions that everything would have been hunky dory just by his divine presence.

And since Trump declined to explain to Ingraham why Putin wouldn’t have invaded Ukraine if he were still occupying the White House, here is the actual explanation: Putin would not have needed to invade Ukraine because Trump was giving him everything he wanted without any military actions or threats. Putin wanted assurances that Ukraine would not join NATO. He wanted to weaken the European Union. He wanted to undermine democracy in the West, particularly in the United States. He wanted to expand Russia’s territorial influence. And Trump was already allowing him to do all of that. It’s only because Trump was booted out of office and replaced by a President who stood for American values of democracy and liberty that Putin decided he would have to achieve his totalitarian goals via force.

Ingraham’s Second Question: Give us sense though, you know Vladimir Putin. You’ve dealt with him. How would you have avoided this conflict? How would you have prevented these series of events from unfolding?
Trump: Well, look, I do know him, and I know him very well. We’ve had many, many times together. And I got along with him fantastically. Despite the fact that I shut down Nord Stream 2. [Edited to remove a bunch of irrelevant nonsense about Nord Stream 2] So I think that it’s a terrible thing. The way it started, I really don’t believe he wanted to do this initially. I think he wanted to do something and negotiate. And it just got worse and worse. And then he saw the weakness. And you know it really started with the weakness in Afghanistan and the way they pulled out of Afghanistan. I really believe that’s where he started thinking he can do this.

Once again, Trump completely evaded the question. When asked directly how he “would have avoided this conflict,” Trump just boasted that he “got along fantastically” with Putin (so what?), that he shut down the Nord Stream 2 oil pipeline (which he never did), and then he rambled on incoherently about Afghanistan in order to further disparage Biden. He didn’t approach anything resembling a plan to avoid the conflict. It was just more of his robo-talking points that he’s been disgorging for months.

Ingraham’s Third Question: President Trump, I want to ask you this. We understand that President Biden is monitoring this situation at the White House now and is gonna talk to the G7 tomorrow. Tomorrow? And he’s gonna talk to the nation sometime tomorrow as well. You’re reaction to that approach?
Trump: I don’t think he’s monitoring. I think he’s probably sleeping right now. This is a terrible thing. This is something that should have never happened. I really believe that it was Afghanistan. When he looked at that horrible, weak pullout.

This time Trump kind of stayed with the question. But his answer was just to lash out with his typically childish insults about Biden. For the record, Biden was also on the phone, but with his national security team, Ukrainian President Zelensky, and representatives of NATO, the EU, and the United Nations. Meanwhile, Trump, because his attention span is so limited, reverted back to the same diversions he deployed for the previous questions: It would never have happened, and Afghanistan.

To close the interview, Trump mashed together his long held and treasonous preference for Putin over Biden, his manically obsessive “Big Lie” that the 2020 election was rigged, and his mindlessly rote attacks on inflation and immigration…

Trump: Now [Putin] sees the weakness and the incompetence and the stupidity of this administration. And as an American I’m angry about it, and I’m saddened by it. And it all happened because of a rigged election. And that includes inflation. And that includes millions of people pouring in on a monthly basis.

And with that malicious assault on America during a time of crisis, Trump signed off. He was typically antagonistic toward the country he pretends to put first. He provided no encouragement for Americans who are facing the hardships that inevitably accompany war. He was just hostile, unpatriotic, and as always, egocentric and uncaring about anyone or anything but himself. So … same as it ever was with Trump.
