Trump’s ‘Mugshot Edition’ NFT Card Scam Sneaks In Terms that Confirm He is a Brazen Grifter

Throughout Donald Trump’s career in business and politics he has established himself as a deceitful, exploitative con man whose only interest is enriching and empowering himself. It’s why he has so often stiffed his vendors and partners, shuttered fraudulent operations (i.e. his university, charitable foundation, casinos, etc.), and declared half a dozen bankruptcies that left his creditors in the lurch while he pocketed the spoils.

Trump Trading Cards

Trump’s latest swindle is the release of the “Mugshot Edition” of his allegedly collectable NFT cards. These are digital images that cost next to nothing to make, and that he has licensed for sale by a third party vendor at $99.00 a piece. He announced this boondoggle on another one his scams, Truth Social, that is losing millions of dollars and has warned investors that it could soon go belly up.

Never mind that Trump’s previous edition of NFTs was a flop that lured suckers into paying inflated prices that quickly declined when it turned out that there were no buyers for his worthless digital trash. The new edition is likely to follow the same path.

Trump is once again charging $99.00 for his faked pseudo-photos. And this time he is adding a couple of bonuses to encourage his flock to shell out. In order to qualify for the bonus a buyer would have spring for the full 47 piece collection, for a total price of $4,653.00. For that lofty sum you could “win” either a dinner with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, or a special edition physical card with an actual swatch from the suit he wore when he surrendered to authorities in Georgia for his mugshot.

There are, however, a couple of problems with the contest. For one thing, the winner of the dinner would have to pay all of the transportation and lodging costs. Which likely means that the winner would be paying Trump to stay in his own hotel. As for the suit swatch, there is no way to affirm that it actually came from his suit, as if anyone really cared.

More troubling is the small print in the “terms and conditions“ attached to the bonuses. For both prizes the terms state that:

For the mugshot card…
“In the event the Bonus Physical Card cannot be fulfilled due to an issue in the manufacturing, production, or delivery on the Bonus Physical Cards, individuals who qualified for the Bonus Physical Card will be awarded a limited edition Trump NFT in lieu thereof, as determined by us in our sole discretion,” the terms and conditions say.

For the dinner…
“In the event President Trump is unable to attend the Bonus Gala Dinner,” or the dinner cannot happen for any other reason, “then we may reschedule the Bonus Gala Dinner or individuals who qualified for the Bonus Gala Dinner will be awarded a limited edition Trump NFT in lieu thereof, as determined by us in our sole discretion,” according to the terms.

In other words, at the “sole discretion” of Trump, and/or his vendor, the prizes could be forfeited and another worthless NFT awarded in their place. All for just $4,653.00. And the saddest part of this is that a fair number of Trump’s glassy-eyed cult followers will still likely salivate over the opportunity to be duped by The Donald.

It’s astonishing how gullible people can be when wooed by a former reality TV game show host whose past is replete with purposeful fraud. But they can take comfort in the knowledge that, in the end, they will get precisely what they paid for. And that Trump will have a good laugh at their expense.

Trump’s Fear and Desperation Kick Into High Gear in Bonkers Rant About the Supreme Court Appeal

The legal tribulations of Donald Trump took a turn for the worse this week as special counsel Jack Smith sought to bypass the appellate circuit courts and have the Supreme Court rule on Trump’s frivolous motion to dismiss the case involving his role in the January 6th insurrection.

Trump’s ludicrous motion argues that he has universal impunity to commit any crime, due to what he calls “presidential immunity.” By his demented reckoning, he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and be legally untouchable. And the thought of anyone challenging his perverse perspective of blanket indemnity enrages him. Consequently, upon hearing about Smith’s request, Trump was predictably apoplectic, a state he achieves at surprisingly frequent intervals. Like whenever he is awake.

In a furious tirade delivered during a speech in Iowa (video below), Trump lashed out at Smith’s perfectly reasonable and legally astute request. And as is often the case, his own words are more damning, and demonstrative of his cognitive decline, than those of his harshest critics. They require little commentary to expose how painfully hollow and bereft of reason his rants are. He began by babbling that…

“Now they’re saying let’s rush it to the Supreme Court. We gotta rush it, rush it, rush it. They could have started three years ago. Everything – nothing changed. They could have started three years ago, but they didn’t. They started just recently with this crap. They started just recently. They could have brought this lawsuit three years ago, right after I left. It’s been three years. But they didn’t do that. And now they’re saying ‘We have to go immediately before the Supreme Court.’ This thing would have all been over with two years ago. But they waited and waited and waited.

Reminiscent of his “Russia, Russia, Russia,” rant, Trump is now yammering “rush it, rush it, rush it.” That was followed by his tedious complaint that his perceived persecutors waited too long to charge him. However, Smith was appointed more than a year ago, and the Justice Department probe began well before that. But there’s an even bigger problem with Trump’s complaint that “they could have brought this lawsuit three years ago.” Three years ago he had not yet committed some the crimes he is being charged with.

Notice also that Trump is repeating himself incessantly. And not just the “rush it” rhetoric. In the brief segment above he refers four times to the “three years” that he complains went by. Psychologists might diagnose this as Palilalia, a condition that is frequently present in people suffering from neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s disease.

But Trump was just getting started. He continued his caterwauling…

“And then they saw I was running. And they waited and then they saw I was hot. And they filed lawsuits. These are very dishonest people. That’s called election interference. These are very – and now they’re fighting like hell because they want to try and get a guilty plea from the Supreme Court of the United States, which I can’t imagine cause you have presidential immunity.”

Trump’s assertion that a criminal prosecution is “election interference” makes no sense whatsoever. If accepted as a plausible defense it would permit a would-be murderer to announce his candidacy before committing his crime, and then be excused from prosecution until after his campaign and term in office.

Trump is also exhibiting his pitifully ignorant grasp of the law. The Supreme Court does not issue judgements of guilt or innocence. And they certainly don’t issue guilty pleas. They only ascertain whether the lower courts and/or the law were in compliance with the Constitution.

Finally, Trump reiterates his claim of presidential immunity, which he is anxious to have the courts affirm. So then why is he objecting to this question being elevated to the Supreme Court where his arguments can be heard and decided more expeditiously? On the one hand he whines that “They waited and waited and waited.” Now he’s simultaneously complaining that they are rushing it.

Perhaps it’s because he knows that his argument is preposterous and won’t be affirmed by a profoundly conservative court with three of his own appointees. Or maybe he’s just as riddled with dementia as many of his critics – including those who know him well – have been saying for years. Or maybe some of both.

In any case, he is proving that he is wholly unfit to serve as president, or in any other public office. And the fact that he is still the leading candidate for the Republican Party’s nomination for president tells you all you need to know about them as well.

When Republicans initially requested that Hunter Biden testify before a House committee investigating him and his father, President Joe Biden, he quickly agreed to doing so in a public hearing in order to clear his name and get all the facts out. He wasn’t afraid of facing the difficult questions that he knew would be forthcoming.

So what are the Republicans afraid of? It didn’t take long after Hunter agreed to cooperate that the Republicans shifted the goalposts and demanded that Hunter appear behind closed doors where his testimony could be distorted by dishonest Republican partisans prior to releasing selected excerpts to the media. It was a tactic that they had already demonstrated they were prepared to use. So they let it be known that they would only agree to hearings in secret sessions.

Hunter’s reluctance to testify under circumstances that would allow the GOP to lie and spread disinformation and propaganda has now been borne out by Fox News with their reporting on the GOP’s conditions for Hunter’s testimony. Hunter made a statement outlining his reasons for wanting the hearing to be public that included his justified concerns that a private hearing would be exploited by Republicans for nefarious political purposes.

“I’m here today to make sure the House committee’s illegitimate investigations of my family do not proceed on distortions, manipulated evidence, and lies.”

So how did Fox News report Hunter’s statement? Well, they began with a headline that blasted “Hunter Biden faces backlash after defying subpoena with press conference ‘stunt’: ‘Hold him in contempt!'” That led to the opening paragraphs that said…

“Hunter Biden is facing intense backlash after holding a Capitol Hill press conference on Wednesday in which he refused to sit for a deposition before Congress, and declared his father, President Biden, was never ‘financially involved’ in his business dealings. Calls to hold Hunter in contempt of Congress began almost immediately following the end of the press conference.”

The story went on to quote exclusively Republicans who were upset that Hunter wanted to testify in an open and transparent setting, something that Republicans fear. Not a single Democrat was quoted. So naturally, from the Fox perspective, there was only a “backlash” as a result of his “stunt.”

Fox said that Hunter “refused” to come before Congress, conveniently leaving out the fact that he agreed to do so if it were in public. Then they said that his refusal resulted in calls to hold him in contempt. They might want to ask GOP Rep. Jim Jordan about that. He was also subpoenaed to testify before a House committee, but he just ignored it, and continues to do so to this day.

Had Fox News bothered to quote a Democrat in the story it might have been Rep. Jim McGovern, who said on the House floor that..

“Hunter Biden was here today and he wants to testify in public. But Republicans said no, because they want to do it behind closed doors so they can go on Fox News and cherry-pick facts and figures and distort the truth.”

The way that Fox News reported these events validates Hunter’s decision to decline to testify in secret. He knows what Republicans have in store for him. And he knows that Fox News will be there to advance the GOP’s lies.

What makes this even more bizarre is that recently Fox News actually let a bit truth leak out related to this. Their White House correspondent, Peter Doocy, went on the air and reported that…

“The House Oversight Committee has been at this for years, and they have so far not been able to provide any concrete evidence that Joe Biden personally profited from his son Hunter’s overseas business.”

Undeterred by the reporting of their own White House correspondent, the propagandists who populate the network continue to distort reality in order to disparage the President and his family. That is their mission, in concert with the Republicans in Congress. And no amount of truth can get in their way.

On Tuesday morning the Republicans held a hearing to debate the Impeachment inquiry proposal. It was predictably devoid of any substance that would justify either an inquiry or an impeachment. However, it was chock full of asinine arguments by Republicans trying desperately to defend their dimwitted determination to destroy Biden. And leading the pack was GOP Rep. Guy Reschenthaler, who sought to rationalize the alleged “transparency” of a process that Republicans have been insisting be conducted behind closed doors. He GOP-splained that…

“They’ve continued to update. Not just Chairman Comer, but Chairman Jordan, Chairman Smith. They’ve been on TV…You can’t turn on a news program without seeing one of those three updating the American people on this. So to say that we’ve come up lacking in transparency is laughable.”

That’s right! It was all above board because recidivist liars like James Comer, Jim Jordan, and Jason Smith, are frequent guests on Fox News and Steve Bannon’s War Room. They actually believe that that sort of perpetual media presence is how congressional business is supposed to be conducted. They have adopted the Trump perspective of Reality TV being de facto reality.

In fact, what Reschenthaler is describing is precisely why the Republican plans are preposterous and intolerable. They are hoping to hold the hearings in private, and then only reveal on right-wing television programs what they claim took place. They will, of course, deliver grossly biased distortions of reality in their TV appearances. And they will mischaracterize whatever “evidence” they choose to present. This is the same process they previously proposed for deposing Hunter Biden…

This isn’t conjecture. Republicans have already demonstrated that they will brazenly lie about testimony given in private. That tendency was noted by Democratic Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon, who responded to Reschenthaler’s nonsense saying that…

“Mr. Reschenthaler is absolutely right. The three chairs of the committees conducting this sham impeachment inquiry have been all over the news. On Fox, on Newsmax, every night, mischaracterizing what they’ve found. Mischaracterizing what witnesses have said.

“And that’s why it’s important that, if this is to go forward, the American people will be able to judge for themselves. There’s a pattern and practice at this point of the Republican majority hiding what’s going on, only cherry-picking the evidence that they want to move forward. Disregarding when it’s contradicted, even by their own witnesses.”

If Republicans go forward with their phony impeachment inquiry it will likely backfire on them, just as all of their prior attempted smears have done. They think that the American people are stupid. But who can blame them when the only people they have any personal contact with are the ones who watch Fox News? The rest of the nation will be heard loud and clear next November when Republicans are driven from office.

Newsmax Tells Slack-Jawed GOP Chair that He and His Biden Probe ‘Looked Like a Joke’ on CNN

It should be noted that the GOP already has three committees engaged in informal impeachment inquiries. However, they have collectively produced nothing but humiliation for Republicans as their attempts to malign Biden inevitably backfired due to their brazen dishonesty. One of the committees currently harassing Biden is the Oversight Committee, chaired by GOP fabulist James Comer. In a recent interview on CNN Comer was made a laughingstock by Jake Tapper for his absurd assertions that Hunter Biden was indicted in order to protect him and cover up something or other…

Following that fiasco, Comer scampered off to Newsmax where he expected to get a much more friendly reception. And in point of fact, he did. However, Comer is such a nimrod that he botched the softballs lobbed at him. The Newsmax host, Rob Finnerty, brought up Tapper’s interview and gave Comer an opportunity to clean it up…

Finnerty: “He’s making your investigation sound like a joke, and he’s trying to make you look like a joke. And then half of America sees that and they think your investigation is a joke. How do you work around that?
Comer: Well, that’s the first time I went on CNN in three months. We thought we would give it a try. You know, Jake Tapper is an intelligent guy, but he’s playing to a low IQ audience. CNN is hemorrhaging viewers every day. And Jake’s doing what he’s told by his bosses at CNN, who are doing what they’re told by their bosses at the Democrat National Committee. CNN is a wholly owned unprofitable subsidiary of the Democrat National Committee.

So Comer’s first response is to note that he has been too afraid of being interviewed on CNN for the past three months. Then he praises Tapper, but insults the IQ of his audience. Never mind that the IQ of the Newsmax audience has be be considerably lower considering they have fully adopted the crackpot conspiracy theories of QAnon and still support Donald Trump, the twice-impeached, pathological liar, who is facing 91 felony charges, and has been adjudicated as a financial fraudster and rapist.

Furthermore, while CNN’s audience has declined, so has almost every other cable news network in the era of cord-cutting and streaming. And Newsmax trails Fox News, MSNBC, and CNN, by significant margins. That may have something to do with the fact that it is a “wholly owned unprofitable subsidiary” of the Trump Cult, aka the Republican National Committee.

Perhaps the most striking thing about Comer’s response to being made to look like a joke, is that in his entire reply he never disagreed with it. He admitted his fear of CNN, his low opinion of their audience, and his ignorance of the cable news business. But he didn’t bother to dispute the contention that he and his probe of Biden looked like a joke. Because… how could he? What with all the laughter.

GOP Speaker Johnson Visits Fox News to Shamelessly Lie About Proposed Biden Impeachment Inquiry

Instead, the GOP has produced a cavalcade of chaos while being singularly devoted to rank partisanship aimed solely at assaulting their political foes. That obsession has manifested itself innumerable hearings focused on impeaching President Biden on the basis of wholly fabricated falsehoods about him and his family. And the Republican “leadership” has been surprisingly candid about their nefarious intent…

Just last month GOP House speaker, Mike Johnson, was reluctant to initiate a formal impeachment inquiry because “Biden’s polling numbers have been so weak, there is less of a political imperative to impeach him.” But his position has shifted in the few weeks that followed. Presumably because the Ultra-MAGA wing of his party has threatened to give him the boot, as they did to former speaker Kevin McCarthy, if he doesn’t fall in line. Consequently, Johnson rushed over to a diner in Shreveport, Louisiana, where Raymond Arroyo of Fox News was waiting to hear his confession:

Arroyo: This inquiry is underway. They’re voting this week to have an inquiry. Some of the folks in this diner say there shouldn’t be an inquiry of Joe Biden. There should be an impeachment proceeding. You would say what?
Johnson: Well, I would say we’re the rule of law team and we have to be very deliberate and careful about that. I’ve said several times, and it’s true, that next to the declaration of war, I think that impeachment is the heaviest power that Congress has. The House specifically under the Constitution. So we have to be very methodical and careful and follow the facts where they lead. The impeachment inquiry is the next necessary step because the White House is now stonewalling our investigation.

Arroyo prefaced his leading question with the observation that the prescreened audience of Trump cultists are already hankering for an impeachment without the annoying burden of having to gather evidence or to have any proof wrongdoing. And Johnson’s reply was typically riddled with cheesy talking points about the “rule of law” and adherence to the Constitution, neither of which he or the GOP have any respect for.

While Johnson pretends to be concerned about being “deliberate and careful,” the truth is that he knows very well that there isn’t the slightest justification for an impeachment probe. He has said so himself. As noted above, his mission is purely political. If Johnson really cared about the rule of law, as he claims, he would be impaneling a committee to investigate Donald Trump’s provably unlawful conduct, along with that of his family who have received billions from foreign oligarchs. But don’t hold your breath waiting for that to transpire.

It’s notable that outside of the Trump-fluffing opinion mongers at Fox News – who dominate the network – there have been some unexpected acts of actual journalism. For instance, last week Fox’s White House correspondent, Peter Doocy, reported that…

So Johnson and his Propaganda Ministry at Fox News are contradicting the reporting of the network’s own alleged journalists. That’s because they couldn’t care less about facts, truth, or reality. They are fixated on phony scandals and disinformation that they can exploit to help Republicans and defame Democrats. And they aren’t shy about lying in order to achieve their evil ends.

Upcoming Republican Primary Debates May Have Only Two Candidates – But Still No Cowardly Trump

The race for the Republican Party’s nomination for President in 2024 has been a laughably lame affair that appears to be modeled after a third rate reality TV show. It’s “Apprentice – White House” without the boorish board room finale where the playacting potentate pretends to fire one of the contemptible contestants.

From the start of election season the Republican National Committee (RNC) assumed dictatorial control of the production of these debates with a series of decrees that sought to establish their supreme authority over the process and the candidates. For instance, they prohibited all candidates from participating in any debate not sanctioned by the RNC. They also demanded that all candidates sign a pledge to support whoever the eventual GOP nominee was. As if Trump would keep such a promise.

Apparently the RNC is softening their stance. They are now saying that they will waive their demands to boycott non-RNC sponsored debates. Perhaps that’s because the debates they have produced so far have been fiascos that featured infantile tantrums while avoiding any matter of interest to voters. They have also resulted in sequentially lower ratings for each broadcast. Consequently, CNN has just announced that they will sponsor two debates prior to the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary.

CNN’s announcement said that “The events will provide Republican voters an opportunity to hear the governing philosophies of the leading candidates.” But that seems like a lofty goal that they are unlikely to achieve. After all, the previous debates were hardly forums for learning about the candidates “governing philosophies.” And that isn’t likely to improve considering the conditions they have set for participation…

“To qualify for participation in the Iowa debate, candidates must receive at least 10% in three separate national and/or [Iowa/New Hampshire] state polls.”

By that criteria, the only candidates, other than Donald Trump, who currently qualify for the Iowa debate are Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley. And the only non-Trump candidates who currently qualify for the New Hampshire debate are Nikki Haley and Chris Christie. There is still time for others to meet the criteria prior to the debates, but there are no guarantees that they will succeed.

Should the debates wind up being the head-to-head matchups noted above, they might actually be more interesting. And the absence of the “obnoxious blowhard,” Vivek Ramaswamy, would be a welcome relief.

For his part, Trump has declined to participate in any of the four debates already held. And given his increasingly severe psychological slippage, that’s probably a wise decision on the part of his handlers. These days Trump spends most of his time posting either hostile attacks on his perceived enemies, or cultish adoration of himself on his failing Truth Social scam. And his conspicuous cowardice, along with his mental maladies, keep him from sharing the debate stage with his primary challengers, which would only embarrass him and his party further.

So even as the roster of Republicans is reduced with each week that goes by, Trump can be expected to cower in his Mar-a-Lago bunker launching spitballs at his foes, who will deftly avoid any criticism of Dear Leader. And the RNC will continue to prop him up as their inevitable nominee, despite his unmistakable cognitive decline and authoritarian aspirations. This is the state of the Trump Era Republican Party.

Instead, the GOP has been laser-focused on partisan political stunts and brazenly dishonest attacks on President Biden and other Democrats. They have held dozens of hearings intended to expose alleged Biden improprieties, but in every case their own witnesses testified that Biden was beyond reproach. It got so humiliating for Republicans that James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, now refuses to hold any more public hearings.

Nevertheless, the GOP is continuing their crusade against Biden and is pursuing a formal impeachment inquiry, despite not having a shred of evidence of any wrongdoing. And it isn’t just Democrats and liberals saying that. On Friday morning Peter Doocy, the notoriously biased Fox News White House correspondent, appeared on the network to report on the GOP’s plan to vote on an impeachment inquiry next week. However, Doocy detoured to some unexpected honesty from him regarding the matter…

“The House Oversight Committee has been at this for years, and they have so far not been able to provide any concrete evidence that Joe Biden personally profited from his son Hunter’s overseas business. But they are gonna try again with this impeachment inquiry that’s set to start next week.”

That’s right. Doocy is affirmatively refuting the Republicans who have been making innumerable appearances on Fox News insisting that they have irrefutable evidence of Biden’s guilt. Never mind that each time they present it, it is quickly and easily debunked as nonsense and lies. And the chief liar for the GOP is their new Speaker, Mike Johnson…

It’s remarkable that Fox News allows Republicans on the air to openly lie about matters that are conclusively contradicted by their own reporters. And it’s interesting to note that in this case it isn’t even the first time. Peter Doocy’s father, Fox and Friends co-host Steve Doocy, has also disputed the GOP’s arguments against Biden…

This, however, is standard operating procedure for Fox News. They have never cared much for facts. And they aren’t shy about shaming their own “journalists” in order to advance their MAGA propaganda agenda. Consequently, there are many examples of Fox’s right-wing hosts and guests disseminating falsehoods that contradict news reporting that aired sometimes minutes before. Because on Fox News, spreading partisan fiction always trumps the truth.

Lara Trump Flips Charges – that Donald Trump is Running for President to Avoid Prison – to Biden

It has become increasingly clear that the primary campaign strategy of Donald Trump as he seeks to reoccupy the White House is a variation on the elementary school debate response, “I know you are, but what am I?” It shouldn’t surprise anyone that the Trump camp would revert to such a childish tactic considering that it aligns so well with the stunted emotional development of Trump and his MAGA cult followers.

By falsely accusing President Biden of crimes that Trump himself has actually been committing, the Trump “brain trust” thinks they can flip the script and redirect valid criticisms of Trump to his opponent. Either that or just muddy the waters so that the criticism of Trump isn’t taken seriously. It’s projection on a grand scale that only affirms the maliciousness and dishonesty of Trump. He recently tried to invoke the same ploy to deflect accurate descriptions of Trump as an aspiring dictator…

On Thursday morning Lara Trump was the messenger of this maneuver on Newsmax, the network that currently employs her as contributor and fill-in host. She was asked about recent remarks by Biden, who when asked about the potential of his facing a rematch with Trump said that “If Trump wasn’t running, I’m not sure I’d be running.” In response to a follow up question about whether any other Democrats could beat Trump, Biden added, “I’m not the only one, But I will defeat him.”

That led daughter-in-law Lara to contrive a crackpot theory that Biden is only running to avoid future investigations conducted by a weaponized Trump Justice Department. It’s a theory that she stole from Democratic legal experts who have plausibly surmised that it is Trump who is hoping to avoid prison by winning a second term. Lara said that…

“Very interesting to hear Joe Biden say that I guess the only reason he’s decided to run is because of Donald Trump. Well, is that because he thinks that Donald Trump might investigate his family even further? You know, you look at this situation with Hunter Biden. I think a lot of people might, might draw some correlation there and say, well, maybe the only reason that Joe Biden is trying to hang on to power is because his family depends on him trying to continue the cover up that we know has happened for the Biden crime family. It’s very interesting. This is nothing new. This is part of of the politics that we see here in the United States of America. But people know very well that Donald Trump is not a dictator, of course.”

First of all, Biden never said that the “only” reason he’s running is avoid being investigated by Trump. He merely said that he wasn’t “sure” if would run. He has long held the position that he is best suited to defeat Trump, and that if Trump were not running, he could sit it out.

More to the point, Lara’s contention that Biden is afraid of any legal scrutiny is wholly manufactured in her head. Unlike Trump, Biden has never tried to evade any legal inquiries or subpoenas. Plus, there are no pending indictments or charges that he would need to worry about. Nor have Republicans been able to come up with any shred of evidence of any wrongdoing on Biden’s part, despite years of trying. Trump, on the other hand, is facing 91 felony counts in four indictments. So it’s Trump, not Biden, who has some realistic fears of future prosecution and incarceration.

What’s more, Lara’s phony projection is a de facto admission that her father-in-law poses a real threat to Biden. She is conceding the possibility that Trump would abuse his power as president to persecute Biden and his other political enemies.

It’s also notable that Lara closed these comments by declaring that “Donald Trump is not a dictator.” You know you’re not winning an argument If you have to conclude it with a public denial like that. Even so, her denial is contrary to the rhetoric that Trump has been spewing. His hostile references to “retribution,” locking up his critics, building concentration camps, and his adoration of foreign tyrants, are proof, in his own words, of his nefarious intentions.

Trump Cloddishly Dodges Hannity’s Softball Questions About Whether He Would Be a Dictator

Like clockwork, whenever Trump is suffering from some sort of emotional breakdown, he scurries off to cuddle in the comforting embrace of his adoring sycophants at Fox News. So no one will be surprised that, as his legal perils mount, Trump sat down for yet another fluffing session with his BFF Sean Hannity.

Facing 91 felony counts that include financial fraud, sexual abuse, and efforts to undermine democracy, is clearly weighing on Trump. The rage-posting that he engages in on his failing Truth Social website are becoming more unhinged by the hour. The rhetoric he disgorges at his cult rallies descends into a frothy and unbridled fury. And his malicious attacks on his perceived enemies grows ever more distant from reality.

A particularly disturbing portion of Trump’s “interview” with Hannity came when Hannity asked a question that ought to have been easy for him to answer without submerging himself in controversy and shame. Hannity wound up a nerf ball pitch to counter recent and accurate criticisms of Trump as an aspiring authoritarian. Trump’s response was pure Trump…

Hannity: They want to call you a dictator. You used the words “I am your retribution.” Now, before that you said if you’ve been wronged, and you used other words as well. But I want to be very, very clear on this. To be clear, do you in any way have any plans whatsoever, if reelected president, to abuse power, to break the law, to use the government to go after people?
Trump: You mean like they’re using right now. So, in the history of our country, what’s happened to us, again, has never happened before. Over nonsense. Over nothing. Made-up charges. I often say Al Capone – he was one of the greatest of all time, if you like criminals. He was a mob boss the likes of which — “Scarface,” they called him – and he got indicted once. I got indicted four times. […]

Hannity: The media has been focused on this and attacking you. Under no circumstances, you are promising America tonight, you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody?
Trump: Except for day one. I want to close the border and I want to drill, drill, drill. […] He says, “you’re not going to be a dictator are you?” I said “no, no, no.” Other than day one. We’re closing the border and we’re drilling, drilling, drilling. After that, I’m not a dictator.

Hannity’s flagrantly leading question could not have been squishier. It was intended to give Trump an opportunity to smack it out of the park with a firm denial of any tyrannical cravings. But Trump was typically too dense to take the glaring hint, despite getting two shots at it. Instead, Trump ignored the question entirely. After whining about his multiple indictments, he actually conceded that he would act as a dictator on his very first day in office. And what dictator has ever surrendered that power once assumed?

Trump and Hannity both neglect to mention that Trump has explicitly stated that, if returned to the White House, he would use the Justice Department to persecute his political foes; that he would use the military to suppress any dissent directed at him; that he would ban immigration on the basis of religion; that he would incarcerate his opponents in concentration camps; and that he would even “terminate” the Constitution. Other than that…

Trump followed up his “temporary” tyrant boast by promising that he would thereafter be a model of democratic liberty. Never mind that he already proved his abhorrence of American principles by inciting his attempted coup on January 6th. No sane person would believe his promises now. And he has only reaffirmed his despotic desires ever since. What follows are just a few recent examples of Trump’s authoritarian dreams…

Wannabe Dictator Trump Promises to Prosecute the ‘Country Threatening Treason’ of the Media

And if all of that isn’t frightening enough, take heed that a top Trump advisor, Kash Patel, who is likely to have a position in any future Trump administration, recently told MAGA propagandist Steve Bannon that the Trump Team is “dead serious” that “We will find the conspirators in govt and the media. Yes, we are going to come after the people in the media.” So their tyrannical ambitions are not idle threats, they are promises.
