Trump’s ‘Blame America First’ MAGA GOP Aims Their Fire at Biden Rather than Hamas Terrorists

The always volatile affairs of the Middle East have unfortunately become inflamed again with a barrage of brutal missile attacks against Israel by Hamas terrorists in Gaza. The surprise assault has resulted in dozens of casualties of mostly civilians, including children. The free world has united in condemnation of the attack that Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has described as an act of war.

Here at home in the United States the reaction by leaders has been a mostly uniform expression of outrage, along with firm commitments to stand by our Israeli allies. However, there have been some despicably diverging sentiments as to who is responsible for this grotesque and unwarranted hostility. And the source of those sordid sentiments is all too predictable. Beginning with the guy who regards himself as the messiah…

Shortly after the news of the attack broke, Trump posted his thoughts on his pitifully failing social media scam, Truth Social. He wrote that…

“These Hamas attacks are a disgrace and Israel has every right to defend itself with overwhelming force. Sadly, American taxpayer dollars helped fund these attacks, which many reports are saying came from the Biden Administration. We brought so much peace to the Middle East through the Abraham Accords, only to see Biden whittle it away at a far more rapid pace than anyone thought possible. Here we go again.”

It didn’t take long for the chief spokesman of the “Blame America First” faction to point his fat finger at the United States as the promulgators of the terrorism. Although his awkward phrasing makes it unclear if he’s accusing the U.S. of conducting the attacks or merely paying for them. Either way it isn’t true by any stretch of his warped imagination. What’s more, the Abraham Accords that he is flaunting were between the U.S., the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, explicitly excluding the Palestinians in Gaza.

Trump also offers no support for his baseless and bizarre assertion that President Biden “whittled away” anything related to the Accords. To the contrary, he supported and enhanced them. But the mere presence of facts has never deterred Trump from making wildly preposterous claims. After the post above, Trump added the following in another post…

“Joe Biden’s ineptitude, weakness, and incompetence has led to this horrible attack on Israel, and it will only get worse. Just four years ago we had the signing of the historic Abraham Accords, and today we have an attack on Israel. What a difference a President makes!”

Once again, Trump’s tirade bears no resemblance to reality. It is simply his effort to make the U.S. the villains and to agree with and affirm the position of his pal, Vladimir Putin, in Russia.

Meanwhile, Biden released a statement that demonstrates how an intelligent, effective diplomat responds to a crisis such as this, putting the blame on the responsible parties. He wrote in part that…

“The United States unequivocally condemns this appalling assault against Israel by Hamas terrorists from Gaza, and I made clear to Prime Minister Netanyahu that we stand ready to offer all appropriate means of support to the Government and people of Israel. Terrorism is never justified. Israel has a right to defend itself and its people.”

Elsewhere in Washington, Trump’s MAGA minions were parroting his “Blame America First” positions. Republican House majority leader, Steve Scalise said that…

“The Biden Administration must be held accountable for its appeasement of these Hamas terrorists, including handing over billions of dollars to them and their Iranian backers.”

Like Trump, Scalise insists that it is not Hamas that “must be held accountable.” And he is, of course, lying about the U.S. “handing over billions of dollars” to Iran. That is likely a reference to a recent deal to secure the release of Americans from Iran by unfreezing iran’s own funds, held in South Korea, to Qatar, where they would be dispensed only for bona fide humanitarian projects.

Contrast that with the statement by the Democratic House minority leader, Hakeem Jeffries who wrote that…

“I strongly condemn the violent and ghastly attack by the terrorist organization Hamas on the Jewish people and the State of Israel. America stands firmly and unequivocally with Israel. We will strongly support Israel’s right to defend herself from this despicable attack.”

So while Democrats properly blame Hamas for the attack on Israel, Trump and his MAGA Republicans blame America and Biden. At least they are consistent as they also blamed America and Biden for Vladimir Putin’s terrorist attack on Ukraine. However, will they be consistent with regard to how the U.S. should respond to the those attacks?

Many Republicans are opposed to the U.S. funding Ukraine’s defense from Russian aggression. They believe those funds should be spent defending America’s borders, not Ukraine’s. So to be consistent, the GOP should also oppose funds for Israel for the same reasons.

However, if you’re expecting consistency from the GOP you’re going to be sorely disappointed. They value hypocrisy far more than consistency. And they will always jump at the chance to malign America if it serves their political interests to do so. That’s the sort of perversion of patriotism practiced by the MAGA-publicans.

Where is Donald Trump, Tucker Carlson and Putin’s Puppets in the US Regarding the Russian Coup?

Nearly a year and a half ago, Russia invaded its peaceful neighbor, Ukraine, in a wholly unprovoked act of imperialistic aggression. Many of the “experts” at the time predicted that Russia would quickly prevail and Vladimir Putin would expand his tyrannical empire. But that isn’t exactly the way it has turned out. With the help of the United States and other Western allies, Ukraine has steadfastly held off Putin’s armies, although not without significant and painful losses.

However, now Putin is battling not only Ukraine, but a mercenary force that he had recruited to fight on his behalf. The Wagner Group, led by Yevgeny Prigozhin, has turned on his Russian bosses and is marching toward Moscow in what appears to be an attempt to topple the Putin regime.

This is a complicated state of affairs. It’s difficult to know precisely what is going on as both sides are notoriously dishonest. And Prigozhin is a terrorist for hire who is no better than Putin. What we do know is that Prigozhin is undercutting Putin’s narrative about the war against Ukraine, and “has accused Moscow’s leadership of lying to the public about the justifications for invading Ukraine.”

All of this raises questions about the pro-Putin contingent in America. It’s a group that includes shameless shills in the Republican Party and on their Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News. Most prominently the Putin faction features the likes of Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson. Both have fiercely defended Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, and have argued for Ukrainian President Zelenskyy to surrender and give Russia everything that it wants. And both have been conspicuously silent since the coup effort began.

Early on Trump praised Putin as a “genius” for invading Ukraine. Among Trump’s other public adorations of Putin are…

“[The war against Ukraine] would have never started had I been president. There was no chance of this war starting and, frankly, I don’t think Putin wanted to do it. I think he was sort of forced in by the statements being made by Biden.”

“I’m reading somewhere that there’s at least a 40% chance that Putin will use nuclear weapons. How the hell did this happen? And it’s because of the United States.”

Did he manufacture a worldwide pandemic that wrecked my business and kept me indoors for two years? Is he teaching my children to embrace racial discrimination? Is he making fentanyl? Is he trying to snuff out Christianity? Does he eat dogs? These are fair questions. And the answer to all of them is ‘No.'”

Meanwhile, Republicans and Fox News are floating bizarre conspiracy theories that the coup was staged by President Biden to distract from the problems of his son, Hunter. Or that the U.S. is somehow orchestrating the coup to topple Putin. Either way it assumes an astonishing measure of backbone and strategic prowess by Biden, who the GOP regards as too senile to dress himself. Needless, to say, they have no evidence for any of their conspiracy mongering.

Perhaps a better conspiracy theory would be that Putin is staging the coup as a false flag to deflect from his military bungling in Ukraine. Or maybe he’s trying to help Trump by creating a diversion from his recent indictments and upcoming trials for obstructing justice and stealing and hoarding classified documents. Or it’s a plot to cover up his secret romantic interludes with Hillary Clinton at Moscow-a-Lagostan. Sure, it sounds crazy. but it’s no crazier than what the American Putinists are dreaming up.

Wannabe Messiah Trump Claims that Only He Can ‘End the Bloodshed and Bring Peace to the World’

The raging Ego of Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump, is once again presenting himself in the terms of the Western hemisphere’s most divine savior of mankind. Trump has often taken on the mantle of holiness despite his conspicuous lack of spirituality and ignorance of the faith he pretends to follow.

Trump’s messiah complex has emerged previously when literally exalting himself the as “Chosen One” and the “Second Coming” of god. When he wasn’t claiming to be the incarnation of Jesus, Trump has outright asserted that he is “the most honest human being god ever created” Never mind that he is the same person who couldn’t cite a single bible verse as his favorite and has no idea what “Original Sin” means.

On this Sunday morning Trump is, as usual, abstaining from church so that he can post his own revelatory wisdom on his floundering Twitter scam, Truth Social. And the sermon for today is about how Trump is the only person on the planet who can save humanity from World War III. No, really. He posted the following comment for his cult followers:

“Biden continues to bring the world ever closer to nuclear war. I alone am the candidate who can prevent World War 3. I will end the killing and bloodshed and bring peace to Europe and the World!”

Trump is responding to recent reports that President Biden is approving another $375 million dollars in aid to Ukraine, and authorizing F-16 flight training for Ukrainians. It’s affirmation of his commitment to help Ukraine in its battle for democracy for as long it takes.

Trump, on the other hand, is laser focused on helping Vladimir Putin continue to commit war crimes and slaughter Ukrainian civilians. More to the point, if Trump has a plan to end Russia’s war of aggression and avoid World War III, why has he been refusing to tell anyone? Does he want millions to die in a worldwide conflagration that he claims to be able to prevent? Because in a best case scenario from his perspective, he wouldn’t be president until January of 2025, and by then we would all be dead.

More likely, Trump’s “peace” plan is similar to is his infrastructure plan, or his healthcare plan, or his border wall, or any of the other phantom initiatives he claimed were two weeks away. And to the extent that it might exist, probably consists of cutting off aid to Ukraine and letting Putin get everything he wants.

This isn’t the first time that Trump has claimed to have a peace proposal that only he knows about, but would work within 24 hours. And it’s typical of his glorified vision of himself as the world’s sole salvation. But in reality, Trump may be the closest America has come to commencing Armageddon. And nothing affirms that more than his his own words…

This week it was discovered that highly sensitive, classified, United States military documents had been illegally published online. Within a few days the “leaker” was identified as Jack Teixeira, a member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard.

Some of the documents contained information related to the Russian war against Ukraine and could harm the war efforts against the Russian aggressors. So naturally, Fox News and the pro-Putin wing of the Republican Party were all in favor of the intelligence hack and immediately set out to defend the traitor who leaked the documents. Even Donald Trump weighed in with his inane theory that President Biden was the leaker…

Leading the parade of anti-Americans cheering on the illegal breach of national security, was Fox News Senior Putin Propagandist, Tucker Carlson. On his Thursday night episode, Carlson – who has explicitly declared that he’s rooting for Russia in its criminal war against Ukraine – embarked on a wholly fictitious account of what was in the leaked documents. And, of course, his fabricated version made the U.S. out to be the villains…

“Briefing slides had begun to show up, among other places, on Twitter. And the slides show that this is not Ukraine’s war. It’s our war. The United States is a direct combatant in a war against Russia. As we speak, American soldiers are fighting Russian soldiers. So this is not a regional conflict in Eastern Europe. […]

“The second thing we learned from these slides is that despite direct U.S. involvement, Ukraine is, in fact, losing the war. Seven Ukrainians are being killed for every Russian. Ukrainian air defenses have been utterly degraded. Ukraine is losing. The Biden administration is perfectly aware of this. They’re panicked about it. But they have lied about this fact to the public.”

First of all, There are exactly zero American soldiers fighting in Ukraine. Carlson is likely cooking up this lie from reports that there are some military personnel stationed at the U.S. embassy, a customary assignment for all foreign ministries. They are not combatants. But Carlson’s lie could give Putin an excuse to target Americans and American assets in Ukraine and around the world. And notice that his own colleague, Fox News White House correspondent, Jacqui Heinrich, debunked him, reporting that “there is a small military presence at the Embassy.”

Secondly, Carlson’s assertion that Ukraine is losing the war is completely made up. His numbers were pulled straight out of his asinine prejudices against Ukraine and America. Every military analyst – with the exception of those beholden to Putin – agree that Russia has been getting beaten by almost every measure. The only thing that Russia has succeeded in is slaughtering civilians and committing war crimes.

Carlson went on to call for the arrest of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who he baselessly accused of lying to the Senate. He also introduced his own conspiracy theory that the Washington Post and the New York Times colluded with the Biden administration, using “illegal surveillance techniques to identify” the leaker. Actually, it was “billing records of an Internet social media platform and interviews with another user” that helped the FBI identify the suspect.

Interestingly, at his arraignment Teixeira was charged with “unauthorized removal and retention of classified documents.” Which is essentially the same crime that Trump committed when he stole documents from the White House and hoarded them at Mar-a-Lago.

All of Carlson’s raving in this extended and tedious harangue was in defense of Russia and the suspect now in custody who stole classified information and published it online. But worse, it is pure unadulterated propaganda on behalf of Carlson’s masters in the Kremlin. It is emblematic of the anti-American stance taken by Carlson, Fox News, and the GOP. It is aiding and abetting America’s enemies. And it borders on treason.

Why is a Russian Arms Dealer Advising Trump to Flee the U.S. and Take Refuge in Russia?

It is undeniable that Donald Trump is facing some serious legal peril as he embarks on his third candidacy for the presidency. He was just indicted on 34 felony counts of financial fraud by a Manhattan Grand Jury. And there are ongoing investigations of his criminal activities by a Grand Jury in Georgia and a Special Counsel in Washington, D.C.

Naturally, Trump’s response to this well warranted scrutiny has been to lash out viciously at the prosecutors conducting the probes, and at Democrats generally. His attacks are typically devoid of substance and rely entirely on his seething animus and fear.

Joining the hue and cry from Republicans and the Trumpian right is Viktor Bout, a Russian arms dealer who was recently released from custody in the U.S. in an exchange for American basketball player, Brittney Griner, who Russia had arrested on trumped up charges last year.

However, Bout’s concerns for Trump are unrelated to his legal problems. Bout believes that Trump’s life is danger and is advising him to flee the U.S. and take refuge in Russia. According to Raw Story…

“Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, freed from a US jail last year, on Friday urged US ex-president Donald Trump to seek refuge in Russia as his life was ‘in peril'” […]

“Bout, also known as the ‘Merchant of Death,’ [warned Trump that] ‘I believe your life is in peril,’ [and that] The Biden administration will not stop just by dragging you through the court/prison industrial complex,’ he said, referring to Trump’s successor Joe Biden.” […]

“Bout told Trump, whom he has long admired, that he would find a ‘safe haven and from here you can lead the fight for the American people.'”

Under ordinary circumstances, the advice of a Russian arms dealer would not be especially trustworthy. And suggestions that Trump permanently leave the U.S. would be greeted with enthusiastic applause. However, there are surely ulterior motives hidden in this advice. Because Russia is not generally regarded as safe haven for Americans. Just ask Brittney Griner, or Evan Gershkovich, the Wall Street Journal reporter who was just arrested and is currently in a Russian prison.

Rather than being a sanctuary for political dissidents, Russia is known to be a notoriously precarious destination. It’s a place where Vladimir Putin’s political opponents are poisoned and imprisoned. And those are the lucky ones. Others seem to have a bad habit of falling out of windows. It’s definitely not a place from where Trump could lead his MAGA cult followers in a seditious revolution.

On first glance it might seem that Trump would be welcomed by Putin. After all, Trump has been an ardent admirer of the Russian dictator, and pursued an agenda that benefitted him. However, were Trump to seek asylum in Russia it would pose some real risks. As a former U.S. president, he would have knowledge of sensitive information that the Russians would covet (if they could get him to stop yammering about the “rigged and stollen” 2020 election). But once that information is obtained, his usefulness would be kaput, or even problematic for Putin.

In any case, it would be advantageous for Russia to lure Trump into its realm of influence. But it holds no rational advantage for Trump, and certainly not for the U.S. Which is why a nefarious character like Bout would make the suggestion. And framing it as a means of protecting Trump from harm in the U.S. is rather predictable. After all, Fox News has been doing the very same thing…

Should ICC’s War Crimes Arrest Warrant for Putin Include His American PR Flack, Tucker Carlson?

The Associated Press is reporting that “The International Criminal Court said Friday that it has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin for war crimes.” The ICC cites Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine and the tactics he has employed that include targeting civilians, torture, abducting children, and other unambiguous war crimes.

While many observers will regard this as the inevitable consequence of Putin’s terroristic campaign, it should be also be considered just the beginning. Putin had allies and comrades that contributed to his unprovoked hostilities. Among them is Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who has served as Putin’s primary media mouthpiece in the United States.

Carlson has been disseminating Russian propaganda about the attack on Ukraine from its earliest days. And therefore, Carlson and Fox News ought to be considered as accomplices. What follows are some examples of Carlson’s commentaries that affirm his support for Putin and his imperialistic aspirations.

Carlson is finally conceding that Russia deliberately interfered in American politics on Trump’s behalf saying that “Biden has just pushed the EU to stop buying Russian oil. It’s payback for getting Trump elected.” But Carlson is criticizing Biden – not Russia or Trump – for this.

“Why do I care about what’s going on in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia? And why shouldn’t I root for Russia, because I am.”

Only on Fox News: Russian Foreign Minister Praises the Network’s Pro-Putin Propaganda
Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, in an interview on the Kremlin sponsored RT (Russian Television) cable channel, lavished praise on Fox News as a singular voice for Russia’s interests, saying that “only Fox News is trying to present some alternative point of view.” Alternative meaning anti-American.

Trump Claims to Have Magic Words that Will End Ukraine War in 24 Hours, But Won’t Tell Anyone

After several years of Donald Trump making assertions that he routinely fails to back up, most people will rationally dismiss his remarks as the raving lunacy that they are. However, that doesn’t seem to deter him from continuing to disgorge utter nonsense on a regular basis.

Trump has the advantage of having a devoted following of glassy-eyed cultists who will believe whatever he says, no matter how obviously preposterous. That has enabled him to make ridiculous claims to having easy solutions to every problem. They usually include unfilled promises to complete those solutions in two weeks (see his healthcare, infrastructure, and border wall plans).

On Friday Trump did another of his lazy call-in interviews. This one was with the ultra-rightist Right Side Broadcasting Network. In the course of their friendly chat wherein Trump was never challenged on any of his flagrant lies, Trump disclosed that he has hidden powers to wave a wand and resolve any crisis. Even one as complex and intractable as the Russian war against Ukraine. After being asked about his prior claims to being able to negotiate an end to the war – which centered wholly on appeasing Putin – Trump rambled on saying that…

“Well, first of all it should have never started. It would have never started had I been president. There was no chance of this war starting and, frankly, I don’t think Putin wanted to do it. I think he was sort of forced in by the statements being made by Biden.” […]

“With that being said, I think it can be negotiated within 24 hours.It really has to be done from the office of the president. And you have to get both in a room, and there are things you can say to each one of them, which I won’t reveal now, which will guarantee that this war will end immediately.”

Naturally, there is no world calamity that would have occurred if only Trump were President for Life. What’s more, every catastrophe that befalls America is the fault of President Biden. Never mind that Trump had previously praised Putin as a “genius” for his threats against, and invasion of Ukraine.

More to the point, Trump revealed that he has wizardly ways to invoke some clandestine incantation that would magically produce peace in the region “within 24 hours.” He even suggested that he be dispatched to lead negotiations between Putin and Zelenskyy. However, he isn’t going to disclose the magic words he has unless he is returned to the White House.

In other words, Trump is offering a “guarantee” that he could end the horrific war crimes of his pal Putin, and stop the slaughter of thousands of innocent Ukrainian civilians, but he isn’t willing to do that for at least another two years because of his megalomaniacal lust for power. He is, in effect, holding the world hostage to his demand to be crowned King of America.

Trump thinks that that expression of callous and deadly self-interest will get him reelected. Of course, Trump’s guarantee is worth about as much as a diploma from Trump University. And Trump couldn’t be relied on to keep his word, even if he had the occult capability he claims. He couldn’t even cast a spell to get reelected in 2020, or to get his candidates elected in 2022. Although he did blame those losses on his evangelical devotees.

Trump did another call-in interview on Friday wherein he gave right-wing hack Hugh Hewitt an incoherent position on the Ukraine war in which he expresses his desire to see Ukraine and Russia fight. Although he wants to make sure that Russia wins by denying Ukraine any aid. Which pretty well sums up just how ignorant and potentially dangerous Trump is. See if this makes any sense…

Trump: I want to make it so that Ukraine and Russia have to fight, and fight for the last time. We gotta make peace. Tucker Carlson Wants the U.S. to Invade Canada to ‘Liberate’ it So it Doesn’t ‘Become Cuba’

The right-wing Ministry of Propaganda – aka Fox News – has a long history of advocating blatantly anti-American policies and promoting the sort of noxious imperialism that is generally practiced by totalitarian strongholds such as North Korea and Russia. Fox’s hosts and guests don’t make much of an effort to disguise those perverse political positions.

Leading the pack of pro-tyrannical blowhards on Fox News is their Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson. His frequent forays into fanboy adoration of brutal dictators like Vladimir Putin are a staple of his primetime fear, war, and hate mongering.

On Friday Carlson went farther over the cliff of crackpottery in a segment of his streaming Fox Nation show wherein he expressed his opposition to the U.S. support for Ukraine against the Russian invaders and his hero, Putin. He has previously declared unambiguously that he is on Russia’s side against Ukraine, a sovereign, democratic American ally. “Why do I care about what’s going on in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia?” Carlson said, “And why shouldn’t I root for Russia, because I am.” But on Friday Carlson brought the war home to America, babbling that…

“I’m completely in favor of a Bay of Pigs operation to liberate that country. Why should we stand back and let our biggest trading partner … why should we let it become Cuba? Like, why don’t we liberate it? We’re spending all this money to liberate Ukraine from the Russians. Why are we not sending an armed force north to liberate Canada from Trudeau? And I mean it.”

The “Bay of Pigs“ was a covert military action against a hostile, foreign nation that ended in catastrophic failure and nearly triggered a nuclear war. But Carlson is, nevertheless, in favor of a “Bay of Pigs” style assault against our neighbor and ally, Canada. what he is advocating, to put it plainly, is terrorism.

It’s ironic, and repulsive, that Carlson associates his perverse advocacy of the U.S. invading Canada with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Carlson is not only taking Russia’s side as they commit horrific war crimes against civilians, he is advocating that the U.S. emulate Russia in his sick fantasy of attacking Canada.

Carlson never explains what it is about Canada that reminds him of Cuba. Perhaps he is just upset by the fact that it’s a democratic country that has universal healthcare, protects the environment, is proud of its diversity, and respects civil and human rights. Having such a progressive country just across the border likely keeps Carlson awake nights.

Consequently, Carlson seriously proposes a hostile, military takeover of Canada in order to force it to comply with the autocratic principles of the countries that Carlson admires: Russia, North Korea, Hungary, Brazil, etc. He would put American soldiers at risk, and task them with murdering innocent Canadians, to fulfill his dreams of a dystopian dictatorship that would presumably be ruled over by Dear Leader Trump.

The spark that lit Carlson’s fuse was a reference to the Canadian trucker’s convoys in 2022 in protest of COVID restrictions. They were decidedly undemocratic road blockages by a distinct minority, but were capable of causing severe economic hardship by using their trucks as barriers to all traffic. At the time, Carlson came out in support of the truckers, and urged American truckers to follow their lead and drag down the U.S. economy.

That’s just how Tucker rolls. He is an anti-American activist who is willing to sacrifice the welfare of the nation in order to achieve his neo-fascist cravings. And apparently he is also willing to sacrifice other nations for the same end. Where would he stop? Would Mexico and Central America be next? Would he seek to ally with Putin to capture Western Europe? Is world domination his ultimate goal? It’s hard to imagine that he isn’t dreaming of that now. And Fox News is all too happy to advance that abhorrent objective.

Fox News Smears Hakeem Jeffries as an ‘Election Denier’ to Deflect From McCarthy Speaker Fiasco

It is now day three of the Kevin McCarthy House Speaker Spectacular as Republicans have failed repeatedly to secure enough votes to elect a leader. Despite frenzied lobbying, negotiating, and humiliating concessions by McCarthy to the most extreme crackpots in the GOP caucus, they remain stalemated.

Despite his having caved in to the wackos who seek to weaken and control his Speakership, McCarthy hasn’t budged the opposition in his party at all. Even Donald Trump, who ignored the race until after the first three failed votes, had zero impact on the results when he finally sunk to begging for votes with a lukewarm post on his floundering Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, saying that Republicans should vote for McCarthy so they can “WATCH CRAZY NANCY PELOSI FLY BACK HOME.” Which aside from being something that isn’t going to happen, it is hardly a stirring endorsement of McCarthy.

In the midst of this Republican ridiculousness, Fox News has struggled to find a narrative that would frame this in a positive light for the GOP. Consequently, they have shifted their focus to slandering Democrats. Specifically, they are going after the House Democratic leader, Hakeem Jeffries, who has enjoyed the unified support of his party and received more votes than McCarthy on every ballot. But rather than reporting that factual account of events, Fox News went with the following…

“Democrats continue handing votes to Jeffries, who has long history of denying elections.”

That’s a creative spin, to say the least. Anyone with even the barest grasp of current political affairs knows that the Republican Party, and it’s Dear Leader Donald Trump, have been the fiercely delusional disseminators of the “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged and stolen” from Trump. It’s practically the only thing that Trump talks about. But this isn’t an isolated attempt by Fox News to project the “election denier” label on Jeffries. They have previously run stories asserting…

For the record, neither Jeffries, nor any Democrat, have engaged in actual election denying activities. Democrats haven’t refused to concede elections that they lost. They haven’t filed an endless stream of bogus lawsuits to alter the outcomes of any race. And they certainly have never assaulted the Congress or staged a violent coup to overturn an election. No Democrat has been convicted of seditious conspiracy to overthrow the government by insurrection, as members of Trump’s Oath Keepers have.

The remarks that Fox News is claiming constitute election denial by Jeffries are common political commentaries by political partisans. For instance, after the 2016 election, Jeffries said that…

“Russia interfered with our election, attacked our democracy, for the sole purpose of artificially placing someone at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. They were successful.”

That is an unambiguously true statement. It was affirmed by U.S. intelligence agencies, and even the Senate Intelligence Committee – led at the time by Republicans – that found that Russia had an extensive program aimed at disseminating disinformation intended to benefit Trump and to harm Hillary Clinton. What’s more, Vladimir Putin confirmed it with Trump standing right next to him.

So, as usual, Fox News is manufacturing disparaging and dishonest depictions of Democrats. It’s the only thing they can do when their own GOP colleagues are being swallowed up in catastrophes of their own making. And despite how often Fox News does this, they really aren’t getting any better at it.

Trump Sues the Pulitzer Prize Board for Honoring Accurate Stories of His Russian Collusion

Last month Donald Trump announced that he is running for the Republican Party’s nomination for president in 2024. Since then a couple of dozen of his endorsed candidates lost their races, he has been convicted of tax fraud, he lashed out hysterically against the special counsel probing his criminal activities, and he dined with neo-Nazis at Mar-a-Lago.

No one, therefore, should be surprised that Trump’s poll ratings have cratered and he is exhibiting signs of severe depression and desperation. Consequently he is resorting to bizarre antics such as calling for the termination of the Constitution.

Now Trump has filed a lawsuit against the Pulitzer Prize Board that is profoundly frivolous. He is finally fulfilling a promise he made two months ago to file this suit in two weeks. Now he’s boasting about it on his floundering Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, with a link to an article on Fox News. Fox reported that…

“Former President Trump filed a defamation lawsuit on Tuesday against the Pulitzer Prize Board over the 2018 National Reporting prizes given to The New York Times and Washington Post for coverage of ‘now-debunked theory’ of alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.”

Of course, the allegations of Trump’s unsavory connections to Russia were not only never “debunked,” they have been affirmed repeatedly. Fox went on to quote from Trump’s filing saying that…

“The complaint made a series of points indicating why it feels the Pulitzer Prize-winning stories are unworthy of the honor, including Special Counsel Robert Mueller failing to find evidence of collusion.” [and that] At the time of publication, nearly every branch and agency of the federal government had examined this issue and reached the same conclusion: there was no conspiracy or cooperation between President Trump or the Trump Campaign and Russia.”

All of that is patently false. Mueller explicitly stated in his report that Trump was not exonerated. What’s more, he told the House Intelligence Committee that Trump and his campaign “welcomed and encouraged” Russian interference, and that there was sufficient evidence to indict Trump. A Republican-led Senate Intelligence panel found that Russia had an extensive program aimed at disseminating disinformation intended to benefit Trump and to harm Hillary Clinton. Even Vladimir Putin admitted, with Trump standing right next to him, that he wanted Trump to win and had helped him do so. Much of these sordid associations were catalogued in the book Russian Roulette: The Inside Story of Putin’s War on America and the Election of Donald Trump, by Michael Isikoff and David Corn.

The most likely outcome for this lawsuit is a quick dismissal by the court. The judge will surely notice that Trump isn’t even suing the news outlets that published the stories that won the Pulitzers. He’s suing the Pulitzer Board for awarding the prizes. Which they have every right to do. They even had an independent review conducted after receiving a demand from Trump to rescind the awards. That review found that “no passages or headlines, contentions or assertions in any of the winning submissions were discredited by facts that emerged subsequent to the conferral of the prizes.”

Look for Trump to continue to descend into an abyss of anxiety and madness as the prospects for his being held to account legally come closer to fruition. One of the signs of that descent could be revealed soon. Trump also posted a comment Wednesday that said cryptically that “AMERICA NEEDS A SUPERHERO! I will be making a MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT tomorrow. Thank you!” America is anxiously awaiting this announcement with popcorn at the ready.

UPDATE: Trump’s “Major Announcement” turns out to be just another grift. And a hysterically pitiful one: “MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT! My official Donald Trump Digital Trading Card collection is here! These limited edition cards feature amazing ART of my Life & Career! […] GET YOUR CARDS NOW! Only $99 each!” His glassy-eyed cult disciples should snap these up. Who wouldn’t want one of these?
