Trump-Endorsed (?) Rep Eric Swalwell Says ‘This is Gonna Be a Wave Election Alright…A BLUE One!’

Tuesday’s primaries produced a mixed bag of results for both Democrats and Republicans. Some of Trump’s endorsed candidates succeeded in winning predictably Republican contests. But the headline victory went to the voters in Kansas who preserved the state constitution’s protection of privacy and the rights of access to abortion.

Blue Wave

Despite the variances in the election results, Donald Trump demonstrated his dishonesty, willful ignorance, and political tunnel blindness, by asserting that the night was a total victory for him and MAGA. “Ran the Entire Board,” he posted on his miserably failing social media scam, TRUTH Social.

RELATED: Trump’s Twitter Ripoff (TRUTH Social) Has Lost 36% of its Value Since He Began Posting On It

That, of course, was a flagrant lie. In fact, two of the GOP representatives that Trump worked hardest to defeat – Jaime Herrera Beutler and Don Newhouse who both voted for his impeachment – won their primaries in Washington. And a third – Peter Meijer – lost by a hair to a Trump cultist who will almost certainly lose to his Democratic opponent in November in this newly blue Michigan district.

Given the overall results of these primaries, the political forecast for Democrats has greatly improved. And that did not go unnoticed by Rep. Eric Swalwell of California. Swalwell might have been endorsed by Trump when he posted a couple of days ago that a surname-less “ERIC has my Complete and Total Endorsement!” Following the reports of Tuesday’s primary results, Swalwell confidently tweeted that, “This is gonna be a wave election alright…a BLUE one!” And he retweeted a recent poll to back up his certainty:

This poll is a significant improvement over the one taken just a month ago that had the GOP ahead 48 to 46. And it isn’t hard to understand why the landscape changed so drastically. With the ultra-rightist Supreme Court delivering rulings that overturned Roe vs Wade, weakened voting rights, and permitted more widespread access to guns, the American people have been given some strong incentives to ditch Republicans at every level of government.

However, there are also positive incentives for voting Democratic. Despite a razor thin margin in Congress, President Biden and the Democrats have delivered a big basket of bills that are overwhelmingly popular. They include legislation on infrastructure, the American Rescue Plan, gun safety, semiconductor chip manufacturing, climate change, and veteran’s healthcare.

Along with those legislative achievements, the Biden administration also presided over the creation of nine million jobs, lowering unemployment to 3.6%, ending a 20 year war in Afghanistan, and more recently, terminating Al Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri. These accomplishments are starting to be recognized by voters across the country and the political divide, despite efforts by Fox News News and other right-wing media to suppress them.

RELATED: For Those Wondering What Biden and Democrats in Congress Have Been Doing the Past 16 Months…

Democrats will need to overcome the historical tendency of the party in power losing control of Congress in the first midterm election. But there are definitely signs that that trend may be averted this year. However, it won’t happen without voters staying engaged and motivated to give their all to electing Democrats. And Republicans will surely be plotting more malicious means of stealing the election.

So while the future looks bright, it is our patriotic duty to keep the sun shining. And all indications point to the likelihood that, if we stay vigilant and committed, we will succeed in producing a massive blue wave in November.

Voters are More Likely to Support Democrats When Told They are Running Against Trump, MAGA

As the midterm election approaches, President Biden and the Democratic Party continue face challenges in their quest to retain majorities in the House and the Senate. While the economy is strong, wages are growing, and job creation is booming, many people are struggling with inflation and higher gas prices, neither of which is controlled by any president.

Donald Trump Walking the Plank

The importance of maintaining – and even expanding – the Democratic caucus in Congress is critical to a wide array of issues including gun regulation reform, reproductive choice, fair taxation, health care, and the environment. What’s more, congressional probes into the criminal activities of Trump and his cronies would be summarily halted if Republicans were to seize power. And GOP leaders have already promised to initiate persecutorial probes of Biden and other Democrats.

Consequently, the need to persuade voters to back Democrats and cast ballots in the midterm election could not be more crucial to advancing the interests of the American people, and to democracy itself. The question is how best to achieve that goal.

RELATED: BIDEN: Americans Have a Choice Between Two Very Different Sets of Values: Ultra-MAGA or Sanity

A new poll by Priorities USA, a Democratic SuperPAC, is shining some light onto a path forward for Democrats. They surveyed “persuadable” voters in swing states and found that…

“Democrats would lose narrowly to Republicans among targeted voters when people were simply asked if they wanted a Democrat or a Republican in office. On that generic ballot question, Republicans got 44% of the surveyed – which include battleground state persuadable voters and those who are at least somewhat unmotivated to vote this fall – while Democrats got 41% support. That small difference could be pivotal in Senate and gubernatorial races in those states.”

However, “when Trump and his Make America Great Again [MAGA] agenda are brought into the picture, it brightens for Democrats, the polling found” that when…

“Asked if they’d prefer a Democrat who supports Biden or a Republican who supports Trump, those polled preferred the Democrat to the Republican, 41% to 31%. On that question, the hypothetical Democrat got 11% of GOP voters who picked the Republican in the generic ballot question and 32% of third-party voters who initially went with the GOP contender.”

This is affirmation of America’s aversion to the twice-impeached reality TV game show host and failed real estate huckster. His repugnant personality, inflated ego, callous insensitivity, incessant lying, overt bigotry, and unrepentant criminal tendencies, have clearly had an effect on the population at large. And Democrats would be well advised to make note of those “qualities” in their campaigns between now and November.

For his [part, Trump continues to exhibit symptoms of his malignant narcissism in posts to his failing social media website. On Wednesday he delusionally ranted that “It is being stated by almost all that Joe Biden is the worst President in history.” Naturally, Trump offered no support for that wildly fictional claim, because there isn’t any. The truth is that, according to a survey of presidential historians, Trump is the 4th worst president in history. And according to several other rankings, Trump came in either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd worst.

RELATED: Trump’s Irrelevance is Increasing, as are His Pitifully Delusional Attempts to Pretend it’s Not

All of this drives home the point that Trump is a dead weight around the neck of the GOP. And that should be featured prominently in ads supporting Democratic candidates. However, giving Trump the whacking that he so richly deserves should not be done to the exclusion of positive portrayals of Democrats and the Democratic agenda.

Voters still need to have an affirmative reason to go to the polls. And if Democrats can balance the Trump bashing with affirmations of Democratic accomplishments, they might just avoid the typical losses that occur for the party in power during the midterms.

For Those Wondering What Biden and Democrats in Congress Have Been Doing the Past 16 Months…

As the 2020 midterm election approaches, the Democratic Party is facing headwinds that threaten to leave the Party in the minority for the remainder of President Biden’s term. Biden himself is suffering inexplicably low approval ratings in most recent polls.

Fox News, Joe Biden

Sure, there are notable difficulties that are impacting the mood of the American people. Economic issues such as inflation and gas prices weigh on the minds of voters. But those are not matters that the President – any president – has control over. In fact, inflation and gas prices are high around the world. Which is proof that Biden, who isn’t president of any of those other countries, isn’t to blame. Not that that will stop Fox News from blaming him anyway.

RELATED: Biden: Fox News is ‘One of the Most Destructive Forces in the U.S.’ – But it Can Be Cured

Speaking of the world, the war in Ukraine casts a pall on U.S. foreign affairs. Tensions flair as refugees seek safety from the unprovoked assault by Russia. Add to this the high anxiety of the political divisions exacerbated by the knee-jerk partisanship and obstructionism of the Republican Party and the purposeful hostility manufactured by Donald Trump and his cult disciples. But again, those troubles aren’t Biden’s fault either.

So why is Biden polling so badly? And why are congressional Democrats at risk of losing seats in Congress? By all accounts the only explanation is that it’s a messaging problem. Despite the negatives addressed above, there are an abundance of positives that could be highlighted to raise the prospects for Democrats, including record economic growth growth, job creation, and progress on climate change, healthcare, and combatting COVID. Unfortunately, that message isn’t getting out very effectively. And, of course, Fox News and other right-wing media are deliberately suppressing it.

RELATED: Fox News Buries Biden’s Accomplishments in a Pitifully Pathetic Piece of Pure Propaganda

Which brings us to MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan. On his weekend program Hasan helpfully provided a concise compilation of reasons that the American people should be more appreciative of the work that Biden and Democrats are doing on their behalf. It went something like this (video below)

“In just 60 seconds, I listed the dozens of common-sense, hugely-popular Democratic bills that House Republicans have voted against: from baby formula money to free hearing aids to background checks to $1400 checks to many more.

“Over the past sixteen months since Joe Biden entered the White House and Democrats took control of both chambers of Congress, Republicans in the House of Representatives have opposed dozens and dozens of common sense, and often very popular, Democratic Party bills. Let me mention just some of them…”

  • Infant Formula Supplemental Appropriations Act.
  • Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act.
  • Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act.
  • Targeting Resources to Communities in Need Act.
  • Relief for Restaurants and Other Hard Hit Small Business Act.
  • Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act.
  • The Affordable Insulin Now Act.
  • Honoring Our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act.
  • America Competes Act.
  • Build Back Better Act.
  • Women’s Health Protection Act.
  • John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
  • Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act.
  • Bipartisan Background Checks Act.
  • American Rescue Plan Act.
  • Equality Act.

“The vast majority of House Republicans in their nihilism and denialism voted against each and every one of those hugely popular bills. So maybe, just maybe House Democrats, and not me on cable, should be pointing all this out.”

Biden has recently made more of an effort to articulate the accomplishments of his administration. But there doesn’t seem to be any coordinated effort on the part of Democrats to accentuate the positive. And the media isn’t helping by focusing almost exclusively on the downside. They, of course, are not obligated to cheerlead for Democrats. But they do have an obligation to be fair. And fairness demands some recognition of the good works that Democrats have and are engaging in.

The House committee investigating the January 6th insurrection will begin holding public hearings soon. That’s an important development to expose the sedition and corruption of the GOP and Fox News, where lying about the Capitol riots continues unabated. But there must be a positive case for voting Democratic as well. And hopefully the politicians and pundits will devote more time and effort to that endeavor, for the sake of the edification of voters, and for democracy itself.

BIDEN: Americans Have a Choice Between Two Very Different Sets of Values: Ultra-MAGA or Sanity

For the past few months President Biden’s approval ratings have been mired in the low 40s. It is a situation that has frustrated him and his fellow Democrats as the midterm elections approach. If his polling doesn’t improve it could portend severe losses and the nightmare prospect of Republicans assuming control of both houses of Congress.

Click here to Tweet this article

Joe Biden, Donald Trump

On Tuesday Biden addressed the issue that is paramount on the minds of most voters: the economy. He held a press conference where he spoke about the burdens faced by the American people due to inflation and other economic pressures (video below). His speech clearly laid out the differences between his agenda and that of the Republican Party. And one segment of the speech encapsulated the message that could turn around the prospects of Democrats if it were effectively communicated. Biden said that…

“Americans have a choice right now between two paths, reflecting two very different sets of values.

“My plan attacks inflation and grows the economy by lowering costs for working families, giving workers well-deserved raises, reducing the deficit by historic levels, and making big corporations and the very wealthiest Americans pay their fair share.

“The other path is the ultra-MAGA plan put forward by congressional Republicans to raise taxes on working families; lower the incomes of American workers; threaten the sacred programs Americans count on like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid; and give break after break to big corporations and billionaires — just like they did the last time they held power when their top priority was a reckless $2 trillion tax cut going — the majority of that going to the very wealthiest Americans, which ballooned the deficit, and not a penny of it was paid for.”

That’s it. Democrats are for “lowering costs for working families,” and “making big corporations and the very wealthiest Americans pay their fair share.” Republicans are for “the ultra-MAGA plan” that would lower incomes, threaten Social Security, and give breaks to the wealthy and big business.

If Democrats can drive home those points to the people, they will win handily in November. And Biden also noted that “Republicans have offered plenty of blame but not a single solution.” In fact, the GOP is not merely lacking solutions, they actively oppose them. They prefer to let the American people suffer so that they can use their hardship as a political weapon against Biden and the Democrats.

As an example of the two paths that Biden spoke of, a reporter asked the President about remarks made by Sen. Rick Scott of Florida. Scott said that…

“The most effective thing Joe Biden can do to solve the inflation crisis he created is resign. He’s the problem. […] Joe Biden is unwell. He’s unfit for office. He’s incoherent, incapacitated, and confused.”

And those are the sort of infantile insults that are the core of the GOP’s political strategy. Scott is also the chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. It’s his job to design the policy agenda for the party. And the plan that he announced recently would raise taxes on working families and sunset Social Security and Medicare.

In other words, Republicans are, as usual, promising to give every advantage to the rich, while giving only unfulfillable promises of trickling down to everyone else. It has never worked in the past, and it won’t work now. Democrats need to get that message out quickly and repeatedly for the next six months if they hope to prevail in November. And it wouldn’t hurt either if Congress and the Department of Justice moved more expeditiously on indicting Donald Trump.

REALLY? Tucker Carlson Accuses Kevin McCarthy of Being ‘a Puppet of the Democratic Party’

Kevin McCarthy appears to be determined to undermine his chances of ever becoming Speaker of the House. This week it was reported that he had conversations with fellow Republicans after the January 6th insurrection wherein he revealed that he had considered urging Donald Trump to resign. It was reported that he told Rep. Liz Cheney that “I’ve had it with this guy. What he did is unacceptable. Nobody can defend that, and nobody should defend it.”

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Tucker Carlson

When asked about these reports by the press, McCarthy flatly insisted that no such conversations ever took place. Then, of course, the recordings of him saying precisely what was reported were released.

RELATED: Fox News Ignores Bombshell Recordings of McCarthy Urging Trump to Resign and Lying About It

After McCarthy was caught in this bald-faced lie he struggled to salvage what remained of his reputation, which wasn’t particularly good to be begin with. He managed to get Trump’s seal of approval largely on the strength of his rock-solid sucking up. However, that was before a second batch of recordings was released.

In the new recordings McCarthy is heard lambasting his insurrection supporting GOP colleagues, including Matt Gaetz, Mo Brooks, Lauren Boebert, Louie Gohmert, and Barry Moore. He correctly noted that Gaetz was “putting people in jeopardy,” and acknowledged that Trump’s insurrectionists “came prepared with rope, with everything else.”

Even worse for McCarthy, he is now having some trouble with the Republican Ministry Propaganda, Fox News. On Tuesday night Tucker Carlson chastised McCarthy savagely for his political heresy (video below). Carlson ranted that…

“Kevin McCarthy of California told his close friend Liz Cheney that he hoped the social media companies would censor more conservative Republicans in Congress. Donald Trump, the sitting president, had already been silenced by those companies, but McCarthy wanted wanted the tech oligarchs to do more to force disobedient lawmakers off the Internet. Quote, ‘Can’t they take their Twitter accounts away too?'”

McCarthy’s question about taking away Twitter accounts was triggered by the report of Alabama Rep. Barry Moore tweeting a racist comment about the police shooting of violent insurrectionist Ashli Babbitt as she tried to storm the Capitol. Moore portrayed that as “a black police officer that shot the white female veteran.” But this wasn’t about punishing “disobedient lawmakers.” It was about McCarthy’s justifiable concern that these sort of extremist tirades by the most radical members of his caucus could damage the GOP’s electoral prospects come November and, hence, his speakership aspirations.

Furthermore, it’s rather comical to hear Carlson whine about “tech oligarchs” after Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, which Carlson celebrated with unbridled glee. Do you think he knows what “oligarch” means? Perhaps he could ask his boss, Rupert Murdoch.

RELATED: Trump Declares that ‘I Am Not Going Back On Twitter’ After the Elon Musk Takeover

But Carlson hadn’t finished his harangue. He went on to make some truly delusional characterizations of the rabidly conservative and staunchly Republican McCarthy as a flaming liberal who is aligned with the Democratic Party. Carlson fumed that…

“Those are the tape recorded words of congressman Kevin McCarthy. A man who in private, turns out, sounds like an MSNBC contributor. And yet, unless conservatives get their act together right away, Kevin McCarthy, or one of his highly liberal allies like Elise Stefanik, is very likely to be speaker of the House in January. That would mean we will have a Republican congress led by a puppet of the Democratic Party.”

WTF? If Carlson thinks that McCarthy and Stefanik are “highly liberal” his family should seriously consider having him committed. It would be interesting to hear what Carlson thinks are examples of McCarthy being a Democratic puppet, considering that he has opposed everything that Democrats have proposed with knee-jerk consistency. And Carlson’s assertion that Liz Cheney is a close friend of McCarthy ignores the fact that he supported her removal from the GOP leadership and replacement by the shameless Trump-fluffer, Stefanik.

This conflict between Carlson and McCarthy is representative of the disarray that is roiling the Republican Party. Members are torn between their worshipful sycophancy to Trump and their long-standing commitment to repugnant right-wing politics. So it’s a lose-lose. If they keep this up – and if Democrats cleverly encourage it – it will not bode for well for their midterm dreams of majorities in Congress. Maybe it’s Carlson who is helping the Democrats.

How Stupid is Trump? He’s Bragging that 49% of Republicans Don’t Want Him to Run in 2024 (CNN Poll)

With each new day and damning disclosure, it’s getting more difficult to decipher the dementia exhibited by Donald Trump. As the legal walls close in around him he is becoming noticeably distraught. His outbursts are more outlandish and fraught with fear, incoherent absurdities, and impotent demands.

Donald Trump, Mocking Disability

The past several days have been particularly bad for Trump. He was discovered to have flushed documents down the toilet that the law requires him to preserve. He was thrown under the bus by both Mike Pence and Mitch McConnell. A bogus filing by special counsel John Durham was appropriately ignored by the press. His longtime accounting firm announced that they were ceasing to work for him and that ten years of his financial reports were ‘unreliable.” And even his legal lackey Rudy Giuliani is reported to be fully cooperating with the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection.

This avalanche of atrocious news may explain Trump’s curious behavior. On Tuesday morning his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill, Liz Harrington, posted a tweet enthusiastically announcing: “CNN POLL: 51 Percent of Democrats Do NOT Want Joe Biden as the 2024 Nominee”

Let’s just set aside that Trump usually dismisses CNN as “fake news.” At first glance this CNN poll may seem like something that Trump would be thrilled to pass on to his Tweeple. It suggests soft support for Biden in the next presidential election. However, what Trump left out is that the same poll shows that 49% of Republicans don’t want Trump to be the GOP’s 2024 presidential nominee. With the poll’s 3.3% margin of error, there is effectively no difference between the Democratic and Republican numbers. So what the heck is he bragging about?

Digging further into the poll finds even worse news for Trump. When the Democrats who said they would prefer a candidate other than Biden were asked why, 31% said it was because they didn’t want him to be reelected. When the same question was asked of the Republicans, 39% said it’s because they don’t want him back in the white House. So there are significantly more Republicans opposed to Trump running in 2024, than there are Democrats opposed to Biden.

Most of the rest of the respondents for both parties were divided among other concerns such as electability or age. It isn’t really surprising that Democrats might be open to candidates other than Biden. Democrats are a diverse community with an abundance of attractive political prospects. Unlike the GOP, they are not a party that is mired in blind idolatry and cult worship.

It’s also notable that, rather than linking to CNN as the source for the poll data, Trump’s tweet linked to the notorious Internet conspiracy crackpot, Gateway Pundit. That’s so that he could control what information was disseminated, how biased it would be presented, and how ignorant he would leave his followers.

That’s how Trump came to embrace a poll whose results proved precisely how unpopular he is within his own party. And it isn’t the first time he’s had this kind of mental meltdown. Just last week Trump boasted about a Pew Research survey that showed that 67% of the respondents – including 41% of Republicans – said that he “bears some or a lot of responsibility for the violence and destruction committed by some of his supporters when they broke into the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.”

At this rate, Democrats could just sit back and wait for Trump to keep pointing out what a pitiful failure he is, and how much people can’t stand him. But they must not. Democrats still need to take the lead in educating the public and providing positive messaging for the upcoming campaigns in 2022 and 2024. It will take fierce determination and unyielding commitment to defeat the innate disadvantages built into the Electoral College, and to overcome the obstacles that the GOP has been building to suppress the vote. Democrats definitely have their work cut out for them. But it’s still nice of Trump to help them make their case.

Jen Psaki’s Scathing, Point By Point Repudiation of Joe Manchin’s Betrayal on the Build Back Better Bill

On Sunday morning Sen. Joe Manchin made a fairly resolute statement of opposition to President Biden’s Build Back Better bill. While it left a tiny opening for some further negotiations, it has been received with a resounding thud by Democrats and the majority of the American people who voted for just this sort of change.

Psaki Lightening

Manchin’s remarks on Fox News (video below) included some wiggle room wherein his opposition was described as “Where I’m at right now.” Which implies that he could be somewhere else in the future. He also said that “This is a no on ‘this’ legislation.” Which implies that a different version of the bill might be acceptable. These are admittedly small cracks in what has been his consistent resistance to legislation that is broadly popular among his colleagues in Congress, and even his own constituents in West Virginia.

RELATED: Kamala Harris Goes Biblical on Charlamagne Tha God After His Republican Spun Question

It is inexplicable how Manchin could continue to obstruct this bill to the detriment of his state, his party, and his country. However, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki released a response to Manchin’s latest defiant stand against the welfare of the American people. And she wasn’t mincing words. The statement began by noting that…

“Senator Manchin’s comments this morning on FOX are at odds with his discussions this week with the President, with White House staff, and with his own public utterances. […] Senator Manchin promised to continue conversations in the days ahead, and to work with us to reach that common ground. If his comments on FOX and written statement indicate an end to that effort, they represent a sudden and inexplicable reversal in his position, and a breach of his commitments to the President and the Senator’s colleagues in the House and Senate.”

Okay, Psaki did mince her words a little bit, Had she been less diplomatic she might have accurately accused Manchin of dishonesty and betrayal. However, her statement then went on to dismantle Manchin’s expressed concerns point by point. Some of the highlights include…

  • “The Build Back Better Act will have virtually no impact on inflation in the short term, and, in the long run, the policies it includes will ease inflationary pressures.”
  • “Build Back Better lowers costs that families pay. It will reduce what families pay for child care. It will reduce what they pay for prescription drugs. It will lower health care premiums. And it puts a tax cut in the pockets of families with kids.”
  • “The plan is fully paid for, is the most fiscally responsible major bill that Congress has considered in years, and reduces the deficit in the long run.”
  • “Build Back Better will produce a job-creating clean energy future for this country—including West Virginia.”
  • “Manchin will have to explain to those families paying $1,000 a month for insulin why they need to keep paying that, instead of $35 for that vital medicine.”
  • “He will have to explain to the nearly two million women who would get the affordable day care they need to return to work why he opposes a plan to get them the help they need.”
  • “Maybe Senator Manchin can explain to the millions of children who have been lifted out of poverty, in part due to the Child Tax Credit, why he wants to end a program that is helping achieve this milestone.”

Hopefully there is some chance that Manchin can still be swayed. If not, Democrats will have to pour more of there energy into passing the voting rights bills, and to electing more Democrats next year. Biden is walking a decidedly unstable tightrope. The last thing Democrats need is to shove Manchin into the eager arms the Republican Party, which would saddle us with Mitch McConnell as majority leader.

RELATED: The Biden Boom is Well Underway. Will the Media Honestly Report On It?

It’s a sad state of affairs when a Democrat is the barrier to other Democrats achieving the goals that they ran and won on just one year ago. But we must not forget that 48 of the 50 Democrats in the Senate support this bill. Zero of the 50 Republicans support it. It is the GOP that is the problem, not Democrats. And the solution is not to bash the Democratic Party and complain that they suck. The solution is to elect more and better Democrats.

Crybaby Trump Lashes Out Incoherently at Democrats Who Are Making America Great Again

Poor Donald Trump. He’s stuck in his Twitterless world being forced to watch helplessly as President Biden continues to preside over a nation that is making significant strides under difficult circumstances. Trump hates to see the country enjoying successes that he was never competent enough to achieve. So he behaves like colicky toddler throwing a pathetic tantrum that only makes him look worse.

Donald Trump

After the disastrous four years that Trump spent occupying the White House, America is moving forward. The Labor Department announced that 531,000 jobs were added in October. And the unemployment rate dipped to 4.6 percent. Also, the jobs numbers for August and September were both revised upward.

Contrast that with Trump’s record as the first president to have a net loss of jobs during a single presidential term since the Great Depression. His job creation record, even before the pandemic, averaged about 187,000 per month. Biden is doing better than three times that. And that’s while the pandemic is still a prominent drag on the economic recovery. Although Biden’s efforts to get more Americans vaccinated has produced a significant decline in infections, hospitalizations, and deaths. Which in turn has benefited businesses and workers.

So naturally, Trump, who spends his waning days rooting against America, which he says is “going to hell,” has unleashed another Twitter rant via his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill. Liz Harrington. He whined that

“The Democrat politicians of this Country spend 99% of their time fighting Republicans and no time thinking about making our Country great.”

Once again, Trump is projecting his own psychological sickness onto others. He’s the one who can’t stop bashing his political foes. It’s the Democrats who have been working tirelessly on behalf of the American people on the issues that impact their lives. And despite getting nothing but flack from Trump and his Republican obstructionists, they are making real progress. But Trump wasn’t finished ranting…

“If [Democrats] would spend half of that energy fighting China, Russia, Iran and even the European Union, where the U.S. just dropped all tariffs, we would go back to greatness again.”

So now Trump wants the U.S. to fight “China, Russia, Iran,” and even our allies, “the European Union?” How exactly would that help to make America great? Trump is consistent, at least. He has always been a force for antagonism and conflict. And it proved to be a dreadful strategy that only brought failure during his term. And he continued…

“Instead, [Democrats] are weak with everybody except conservatives. Our Country has become the laughingstock of the world!”

It’s generous of Trump to compliment Democrats for being effective against conservatives. However, his complaints about the nation’s status in the world are, as usual, utterly divorced from reality. A recent survey of 46 countries found that…

“Six months into Joe Biden’s presidency, approval ratings of U.S. leadership around the world had largely rebounded from the record-low ratings observed during the Trump administration.”

Trump was undeniably a stain on America’s reputation. But we have been redeemed by Biden’s competency and compassion in less than a year. Which you know is gnawing at the former guy. Nevertheless, Trump can be relied upon to keep up his factless ravings because, what else does have to do? This is his life now. Unfortunately, it’s ours too until he runs out of gasbaggery.

Trump’s Feeble Attempt to Divide Moderate and Progressive Democrats Fails Spectacularly

Is there anyone in America who is waiting for Donald Trump to deliver his analysis of Democratic politics? His positions could not be more predictable and preposterous. In his view everything that Democrats and President Biden does is “disgraceful” and “disastrous” and is leading to the “total destruction” of the country and the world. And the pretty much exhausts his vocabulary.

Donald Trump

Never mind that Trump never has any facts to support his knee-jerk condemnation. Why would he, when the only thing he’s interested in is fomenting irrational hatred and dividing the American people? Trump is literally the last person that any sane observer would ask about Democrats. But that doesn’t stop him from giving his utterly worthless opinion anyway. In a tweet (posted by his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill), Trump actually gave some back-handed praise to moderate Democrats saying that…

“It’s wonderful to see the moderate Democrats take such total advantage of the ultra Liberal Progressives in the House. They promised the Progressives everything and are giving them nothing. No wonder AOC +3 are so angry!”

In Trump’s shrunken brain he sees a broad-based coalition in a political party as a fatal flaw. In his Republican Party everyone goosesteps to the tune of Dear Leader. Indeed, with respect to the Build Back Better legislation, Democrats have had to struggle to find a consensus among their diverse members. But Trump’s assessment of this process is an affirmation of his authoritarian aspirations. He can’t comprehend that free people can have different views.

What’s more, Trump is 100% wrong – which shouldn’t surprise anybody. First of all, moderates never “promised the progressives everything,” and they surely didn’t give them nothing. In fact, the chair of Democratic Progressive Caucus in the House, Pramila Jayapal, said that “the reality is that we have 50 votes that we need to get in the Senate [and that] out of something like nine priorities, we got seven or eight of them.”

In other words, the vast majority of the progressive’s priorities were agreed to. And if you need further evidence of that, take a look at what’s actually in the bill that will be voted on in the coming week. It states that it will…

  • …expand access to free preschool for more than 6 million children.
  • …provide that middle-class families pay no more than 7 percent of their income on child care and will help states expand access to high-quality, affordable child care to about 20 million children.
  • …improve Medicaid coverage for home care services for seniors and people with disabilities.
  • …provide monthly payments to the parents of nearly 90 percent of American children.
  • …save the average American family hundreds of dollars per year in energy costs. These measures include enhancement and expansion of existing home energy and efficiency tax credits.
  • …cut the cost of installing rooftop solar for a home by around 30 percent.
  • …lower the cost of an electric vehicle that is made in America with American materials and union labor by $12,500 for a middle-class family.
  • …help rural communities tap into the clean energy opportunity through targeted grants and loans through the Department of Agriculture.
  • …target incentives to grow domestic supply chains in solar, wind, and other critical industries.
  • …fund port electrification; facilitate the deployment of cleaner transit, buses, and trucks; and support critical community capacity building.
  • …create a new Civilian Climate Corps – with over 300,000 members that look like America.
  • …provide resources to farmers, ranchers, and forestland owners, supporting their efforts to reduce emissions.
  • …reduce premiums for more than 9 million Americans who buy insurance through the Affordable Care Act.
  • …deliver health care coverage through Affordable Care Act premium tax credits to up to 4 million uninsured people in states that have locked them out of Medicaid.
  • …expand Medicare coverage to cover hearing coverage.
  • …enable the construction, rehabilitation, and improvement of more than 1 million affordable homes, boosting housing supply and reducing price pressures for renters and homeowners.
  • …make a historic investment in rental assistance, expanding vouchers to hundreds of thousands of additional families.
  • …create more equitable communities, through investing in community-led redevelopments projects in historically under-resourced neighborhoods.
  • …extend the American Rescue Plan’s tripling of the credit for childless workers, benefiting 17 million low-wage workers, many of whom are essential workers.
  • …make education beyond high school – including training for high-paying jobs available now – more affordable.
  • …make historic investments in Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), and minority-serving institutions (MSIs) to build capacity.
  • …expand free school meals to 8.7 million children during the school year and provide a $65 per child per month benefit to the families of 29 million children.

And if that weren’t enough, these programs are being fully paid for “with savings from repealing the Trump Administration’s rebate rule, [and] by asking more from the very largest corporations and the wealthiest Americans.” The bill will…

  • …impose a 15% minimum tax on the corporate profits of large corporations with over $1 billion in profits.
  • …include a 1% surcharge on corporate stock buybacks, which corporate executives too often use to enrich themselves.
  • …adopt a 15% minimum tax on foreign profits of U.S. corporations, so that they can no longer claim huge tax benefits by shifting profits and jobs abroad.
  • …create a fairer tax system – a tax system that requires the wealthy to finally pay their fair share and rewards work, not wealth – by hiring enforcement agents who are trained to pursue wealthy evaders.

Is this everything that progressives wanted when negotiations began? Of course not. But it is still a historic achievement that provides more benefits for poor and middle-class Americans than even FDR’s New Deal did. And it restores some fairness to the tax laws that were grossly skewed in favor of corporations and billionaires during the Trump travesty.

Furthermore, there is nothing stopping Democrats from restoring items that were removed, such as paid family leave, free community college, dental and vision coverage for Medicare, and lower prescription drug prices. In fact, there is already talk of reintroducing some of those benefits in separate legislation. The only thing needed to complete the job is more Democrats in the House and Senate. And the opportunity to do that is coming soon.

HUH? Trump Opposes the Democratic Bills Because … They Will Elect More Republicans?

Democrats in Congress are battling with Republicans – and a couple of reticent Democrats – to pass a pair pf bills aimed at keeping the government from shutting down and defaulting on its debt. Republicans are demonstrating their customary hypocrisy with regard to the debt limit, and their blatant and reckless partisanship on funding for critical ongoing operations.

Donald Trump Angry

On Thursday morning there was some chatter in the press about agreements being reached to get the Continuing Resolution passed and keep the government open. But any signal that the government might function efficiently is an automatic trigger to Donald Trump, whose psychotic synapses force him into a perpetually hostile stance. Consequently, upon hearing the news, Trump had his spokes-shill, Liz Harrington (whose proxy Trump tweeting is violating Twitter’s rules against circumventing a ban), hammer out a couple of audaciously dishonest tweets in hopes of undermining the legislative progress.

The first tweet insisted that “This bill must be opposed!” Trump’s reasons for opposition were based on his utterly fictional analysis of the bill, along with a swing at xenophobic fear mongering:

“Snuck into the government funding bill, or CR, the Democrats are trying to pass, and just found, is unlimited money to random, unscreened, unvetted Afghan nationals. Republicans can’t let this happen. […] This is not a “clean” government funding bill. It’s a major immigration rewrite that allows Biden to bring anyone he wants from Afghanistan for the next year—no vetting, no screening, no security—and fly them to your community.”

Absolutely none of that is true. The only reference to Afghans is a clause that permits the federal government to continue operations in support of “individuals evacuated from Afghanistan.” These are the allies who worked with the U.S. military during the twenty year war. They are the same people that Republicans and Fox News complained were being left behind. Now Trump is portraying them as dangerous foes being surreptitiously planted in “your community.”

The second tweet also demanded that the bills be rejected. but this one took a more brazenly political posture:

“If Democrats are able to piece together their huge tax hikes, called by another name, it will mean an additional 40 Republican seats in the House and at least a few additional Republican Senators in the U.S. Senate.”

Without any warning, Trump appears to have changed the subject from the funding and debt ceiling bills, to the infrastructure bills. It is the reconciliation bill that contains a rollback of Trump’s prior tax scam that cut taxes for corporations and the wealthy. However, what is notable in his comment is his belief that those provisions are unpopular and would result in a red wave in the mid-term election next year.

Let’s set aside the fact that the Democratic bills are overwhelmingly favored by broad majorities of voters. If Trump actually believed that passage of the Democratic agenda would result in Republicans retaking both houses of Congress, wouldn’t he welcome that? It would pave the way for his return to the White House in 2024, and then the GOP could enact whatever right-wing wet dreams they have.

Obviously, Trump is rambling incoherently again. He has no idea how Congress works, or how the game of politics is played. His only strategy, no matter the circumstances, is to be virulently opposed to whatever his political foes favor. His one-note ideology can be summarized in the timeless words of one of America’s most renown statesmen…
