Hunter Biden Follows Through with Threat to Sue Fox News for Disseminating ‘Revenge Porn’

Two months ago, Hunter Biden sent a “cease and desist” letter to Fox News demanding that they retract false stories that they have been disseminating for more than a year about President Biden’s son. Never mind that the network never had a shred of evidence to support their libelous “reporting.” Of course, lacking evidence has ever stopped Fox News from lying to smear their political opponents before.

CNN reported at the time that “Lawyers for Hunter Biden are telling Fox News to correct the record on bribery allegations made by a discredited FBI informant or face a defamation lawsuit.” The letter also “accused Fox of profiting off of a fictionalized show streaming on Fox Nation called “The Trial of Hunter Biden,” and of violating revenge porn laws.”

On Monday Hunter Biden followed through on his threat to sue Fox News. The lawsuit charges that Fox News engaged in distribution of “revenge porn” and unjust enrichment and intentional infliction of emotional distress. As reported by NBC News…

“Hunter Biden is accusing Fox News in a lawsuit of distributing ‘revenge porn’ by broadcasting nude images of him as part of a miniseries that was available on the conservative outlet’s streaming service, Fox Nation. […]

“In addition to the unlawful commercial exploitation of Mr. Biden’s image, name, and likeness, ‘The Trial of Hunter Biden’ unlawfully publishes numerous intimate images (both still and video) of Mr. Biden depicting him in the nude [and that] Fox published and disseminated these intimate images to its vast audience of millions as part of an entertainment program in order to humiliate, harass, annoy, and alarm Mr. Biden and to tarnish his reputation.”

NBC News reports that while Fox News removed the program from their website, they retained promotional reels and clips online, and failed remove the program from third-party streaming platforms.

This lawsuit will add to the legal troubles that Fox News has been facing. They have already agreed to a $787 million settlement for defamation as a result of a lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems. Without even going to trial, that suit revealed the myriad lies that Fox News hosts and guests told about Donald Trump’s “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged and stolen” from him. The revelations that emerged included emails that showed that Fox knew that what they were reporting were lies while they were telling them. Fox News is also facing a similar defamation lawsuit by the voting software firm, Smartmatic, for $2.7 billion.

Hunter Biden’s case against Fox News is pretty solid and, if the network doesn’t settle with him, Biden’s legal team could begin the discovery process. That’s the same process that allowed Dominion to get access to Fox’s internal communications and resulted in a great deal of humiliation for the network and its personnel, including hosts Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, and more.

The mounting legal cases that Fox News is fighting will only bring them further financial and reputational costs. And their defense on First Amendment grounds is unlikely to succeed. The First Amendment does not shield them from engaging in defamation, publishing known falsehoods, or disseminating purposefully “fictionalized” stories that contain stolen, private images. Will Fox News cave and settle this suit as well? Stay tuned.

Justice Sotomayor’s Blistering Dissent to the Supreme Court’s Gift of Immunity to King Trump

After an interminable, deliberate, and unwarranted delay, the MAGA majority on the Supreme Court has finally ruled that convicted felon Donald Trump has some measure of immunity for so-called “official” conduct as president. It was a 6-3 ruling on predictably ideological lines.

What this means in practice is that the president is now unbound by the rule of law and may commit crimes at will with little to no consequences. In other words, what was once the office of the presidency is now the throne of a king. The court did not so much decide on immunity as impunity. And they did so with an election coming up that could return a recidivist criminal (Trump) to office.

The majority opinion delivered to Trump almost everything that he hoped for. And he thanked them in a series of posts on his floundering social media scam, Truth Social.

However, Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote a dissent that not only shredded the brazenly biased opinion written by Chief Justice John Roberts, it also sounded the alarm for the imminent danger that the nation faces in the event of the election of a president who takes advantage of the new totalitarian license provided by a court whose own members (Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito) are themselves legally and/or ethically tainted. Sotomayor wrote (with emphasis added) that…

“Today’s decision to grant former Presidents criminal immunity reshapes the institution of the Presidency. It makes a mockery of the principle, foundational to our Constitution and system of Government, that no man is above the law. Relying on little more than its own misguided wisdom about the need for ‘bold and unhesitating action’ by the President, the Court gives former President Trump all the immunity he asked for and more.” […]

“The President of the United States is the most powerful person in the country, and possibly the world. When he uses his official powers in any way, under the majority’s reasoning, he now will be insulated from criminal prosecution. Orders the Navy’s Seal Team 6 to assassinate a political rival? Immune. Organizes a military coup to hold onto power? Immune. Takes a bribe in exchange for a pardon? Immune. Immune, immune, immune.

“Let the President violate the law, let him exploit the trappings of his office for personal gain, let him use his official power for evil ends. Because if he knew that he may one day face liability for breaking the law, he might not be as bold and fearless as we would like him to be. That is the majority’s message today.

“Even if these nightmare scenarios never play out, and I pray they never do, the damage has been done. The relationship between the President and the people he serves has shifted irrevocably. In every use of official power, the President is now a king above the law.”

So what now? First and foremost, Trump must be soundly defeated in November. If reelected he has promised to exact “retribution” on his political foes. That means anyone who is less than unflinchingly loyal to him among members of Congress, judges and prosecutors, state officials, business leaders, private citizens, and journalists and media organizations.

Secondly, Congress must act to undo the atrocity that the Supreme Court has imposed. They must pass laws that explicitly hold the president accountable for crimes that he commits. They must reform the Supreme Court by adding new members, placing term limits on them, and enacting a code of ethics with real consequences for violators.

Finally, they should proceed to impeach Trump for the third time. That’s right. There is nothing that prohibits an impeachment for a former president. And if successful in the House, it can proceed to the Senate, giving them another opportunity to convict Trump and forbid him from holding any federal office. That would at least provide some protection from this particular criminal from becoming president again and committing more crimes under the Court’s now rules.

Does that sound like anyone you know? Convicted Felon Donald Trump has been documented to have told more than 30,000 lies during his occupation of the White House, and for the years that have followed. Many of those lies involved beliefs that are demonstrably untrue, such his claim that everybody, including liberals, wanted Roe v Wade reversed; his insistence that China paid billions in tariffs; his assertion that Democrats favor abortion after birth; his “Big Lie” that he won the 2020 presidential election; and too many more to enumerate.

On Sunday morning, Trump’s daughter-in-lawlessness, Lara Trump, who he installed as co-chair of the Republican National Committee, visited with the Fox News Senior Trump-Fluffer, Maria Bartiromo. Part of their televised mutual admiration group therapy session included Lara revealing another one of Trump’s delusions of grandeur…

“You also heard whenever [Trump] was in Virginia at that campaign rally, him say ‘to anyone out there who is considering doing anything before I become president again, don’t even try it.’ The fact you have Donald Trump is leading the country right now when he is not officially yet back in the White House speaks volumes to the American people and, I think, to the rest of the world.”

That statement does, indeed, speak volumes. But not in the way that Lara thinks. It speaks to Trump’s delusional perception of himself as still possessing the powers of the presidency. It speaks to his authoritarian aspirations to wield that imaginary power with impotent threats that he has no ability to carry out. It speaks to his anti-American tendencies to obstruct any progress on behalf of the people unless it is overseen and sanctioned by him.

What’s more, Lara is actually advocating that Trump add to the list of felonies he is already guilty of. In saying that “He is leading despite the fact that Joe Biden is technically the President,” Lara is confessing that Trump is violating federal law (the Logan Act) that prohibits “negotiation by unauthorized American citizens with foreign governments.”

Trump himself has confessed these illegal acts in comments wherein he implied that he can personally arrange negotiated solutions with Vladimir Putin to problems with Russia, such as the war in Ukraine and the incarceration of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich. Trump has said that those problems would be resolved after the election, but only if he is the winner. So he’s virtually conspiring with Putin to hold U.S. objectives hostage and to obstruct resolutions unless his demands to reoccupy the White House are satisfied.

Lara’s comments not only expose the unlawfulness that is inherent in the Trump family, they reveal a toxic strain anti-Americanism that has infected the whole of the MAGA cult. They support Trump’s criminality, just as they have supported it when he was convicted of 34 felonies in Manhattan; and when he was found liable for $454 million for financial fraud; and when he was adjudicated as a rapist and ordered to pay $88 million to his victim. Not to mention the fraud he engaged in with his phony university and charitable foundation.

To describe Trump’s activities as akin to a crime syndicate would be unquestionably accurate. It would also be monstrously disturbing due to the fact that he is the chosen candidate of the Republican Party for president. And it doesn’t help matters to know that Fox News continues to buttress the depraved corruption of both the Trump family and the MAGA GOP.

Trump Whines that the Media Didn’t Praise Him Enough After His Lie-Riddled Debate with Biden

The first presidential debate of 2024 is now history – in more ways ways than one. It is the first ever presidential debate where one of the candidates – Donald Trump – was a convicted felon, with 54 more felony charges pending, and was ordered to pay $454 million for financial fraud, and who incited a violent coup, and was adjudicated as a rapist.

Those uniquely distinguishing characteristics of Trump, however, were not the only things that guaranteed the CNN debate with President Biden a place in the history books. It was also a debate wherein Trump likely set a new world record for telling the most lies in a 90 minute slice of political television. And the record he beat was probably his own.

In the days following the debate, the media has decided to place their focus on what many of their pundits are describing as the substandard performance of Biden. Ordinarily, when the press is criticizing your opponent, most politicians would be satisfied to let that criticism go on without interruption. But Trump is most certainly not “most politicians.”

Consequently, Trump is complaining about the bad press that Biden is suffering. Not because he thinks it is unwarranted. But because it is deflecting media attention from himself. And there is no greater offense one can commit against Trump than to fail to be thoroughly engrossed with his every word and deed at all times. He is the most sickly, egotistical, manifestation of Glenn Close’s character in the movie “Fatal Attraction,” who declared that “I will not be ignored.”

On Saturday morning Trump took to his floundering Social media scam, Truth Social, to lash out the press for failing to obsess over him. He wrote that…

“As I walked off the stage on Thursday night, at the end of the highly anticipated ‘Debate,’ anchors, political reporters and all screamed that I had had the greatest debate performance in the long and storied history of Presidential Debates. They all said, effectively, ‘Trump was fantastic!’ This theme was universal, even at CNN & MSDNC, but by Friday evening it was all about the poor performance of Crooked Joe, and not so much about how well I did. Oh well, that’s the way it is but, importantly, the result is the same!!!”

There is so much wrong with that puerile outburst that it requires a deeper dive into its derangement. Beginning with Trump’s utterly delusional assertion that all of the anchors and political reporters “screamed that I had had the greatest debate performance” in history. He was probably right about the screaming, but not for the reasons he suggests. And they surely didn’t regard his litany of flagrant lies as “fantastic.”

What’s more, how would Trump know what CNN and MSNBC – two networks that he insists he would never watch – were saying about Biden’s debate performance? If he had watched them he would have seen them talking about both Biden’s shortcomings and his own brazen and shameless dishonesty.

However, Trump makes it clear that his biggest problem with the press coverage of the debate was that it was “not so much about how well I did.” One explanation for that might be that he didn’t do what any rational person would describe as “well.”

More to the point, Trump is exhibiting his flaming narcissism by squealing about the press failing to devote all of their attention to him, even at the expense of their determination to bash Biden. Meanwhile Biden, while not delivering his best performance, was at least honest and, unlike Trump, stuck to the facts in his responses that actually related to the questions he was asked.

It is illustrative of the bizarre nature of our times that a candidate who appeared somewhat slow and detached during one debate is being urged to drop out of the race, but not the candidate who has been convicted of 34 felonies, surrounds himself with fellow felons, lies pathologically, exudes hostility and racism, and was affirmed by a judge to be a rapist. When these pundits start to call for Trump to drop out, we can start to take them seriously.

FTR: Felonious Trump Gave 3 Times as Many False Statements as President Biden in the CNN Debate

Lets get this out of the way… President Biden had a bad night, and it was a serious missed opportunity. That said, Donald Trump is still a convicted felon, a rapist, a bigot, a flaming idiot, and an aspiring authoritarian who is an imminent threat to democracy. And, as emphatically demonstrated in last night’s debate, Trump is a also pathological liar.

Trump Lies

So after the CNN debate, the choice for president remains one between an honorable, intelligent, elderly man with a poor memory who stutters, or a psychotically hostile wannabe dictator with the morals of an alley cat. That shouldn’t be a difficult choice for most Americans. And the coming days will affirm Trump’s unfitness for office as he is sentenced for the 34 felonies he was recently found guilty of, followed by the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a city he regards as “horrible.”

There are factions within the Democratic Party that are panicking and now believe that Biden should step aside. Meanwhile, Republicans are ecstatic about Trump flooding the zone with flagrant falsehoods. Something is very wrong with American politics if Democrats will panic when Biden stutters a bit, but Republicans will celebrate when Trump lies constantly.

CNN made the astonishingly irresponsible decision to refrain from fact-checking during the debate. That played into Trump’s hands, allowing him to lie incessantly for 90 minutes without consequence. After the debate, CNN got around to fact checking, and the results, while predictable, couldn’t be worse for Trump. They found that Trump lied at least 28 times – about once every three minutes. Which means that virtually every response he gave contained a lie. Biden, on the other hand, was found to have made only nine disputable comments.

The difference between the character of the falsehoods was also notable. Trump’s were serious misstatements of irrefutable and consequential facts. However, Biden’s contained some items that clearly didn’t belong on a list of false statements. For instance…

  • CNN disputed Biden’s claim that Trump wants to get rid of Social Security. But Trump has said that he would make cuts to the program that he falsely claims is an entitlement.
  • CNN disputed Biden’s claim regarding Trump’s proposal to inject bleach as a cure of COVID. But Trump did make such a suggestion, just using the word “disinfectant,” rather than “bleach.”
  • CNN disputed Biden’s claim that billionaires pay 8.2% in taxes. Which is true if you factor in their unrealized investment income. And often they pay less, or even zero.

The list of Trump’s lies, however, was far longer and more substantive, including…

  • Trump’s lie that “everybody” wanted Roe v. Wade overturned, including Democrats.
  • Trump’s lie that Democrats support killing babies “after birth.”
  • Trump’s denial that he had called fallen soldiers “suckers” and “losers.”
  • Trump’s claim that his 10% tariff on all imported goods would not raise prices on Americans.
  • Trump’s lie that Biden and his Justice Department were behind his four indictments.
  • Trump’s relentless repetition of his “Big Lie” that the 2020 election was “rigged” and “stolen.”
  • Trump’s attempts to blame former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for the January 6th insurrection.
  • Trump’s taking credit for the Veterans Choice health care law that was signed by Obama.
  • And 20 more lies…

The disappointment over the performance of Biden during the first debate will dissipate in a matter of days. And Biden will have more opportunities to demonstrate his wisdom and compassion. But the lies that are continuously being disgorged by Trump will persist in the minds of voters who actually care about the welfare of the nation. And on November 5th they will reject him, just as they did four years ago.

Trump’s Refuttle to Biden Calling Him a Threat to Democracy: ‘I Know You Are, But What Am I?’

The first presidential debate of 2024 is just hours away. And the candidates are preparing for it in their own unique ways: Biden by studying the issues and polishing his message. And Trump by studying his cult rally rants and giving interviews to Fox News and other MAGA media.

True to form, Trump doesn’t believe that he needs any preparation because, in his warped and ego bloated mind, he is the greatest orator that ever lived and can beat “Sleepy Joe” with his eyes closed. Which is how he thought he would beat the 34 felony charges he was convicted of in New York where he was caught repeatedly falling asleep. That obviously didn’t work. So now Trump is embarking on a full-scale refuttle with the tired PR tactic of trying to coerce the debate moderators to swing his way…

Furthermore, after spending years viciously and falsely maligning Biden as a walking corpse who “can’t put two sentences together,” Trump is now afraid that “Jacked Up Joe” will slaughter him with the help of performance enhancing drugs to supercharge his debating skills. Never mind that such drugs don’t exist and, if they did, why wouldn’t everyone be using them? Including Trump. (Perhaps he is).

Consequently, the Trump campaign team has settled on a strategy that they are confidant will lead to victory in November. It’s a simple strategy that is often employed by elementary school bullies who have no intellectual recourse when confronted by substantive criticism. It’s the old “I Know You Are, But What Am I?” gambit. And Trump himself trotted it out on his floundering social media scam, Truth Social, the morning of the big debate raging in all caps that…

“JOE BIDEN IS A THREAT TO DEMOCRACY, AND A THREAT TO THE SURVIVAL AND EXISTENCE OF OUR COUNTRY ITSELF!!!”

Sound familiar? That’s because it is what President Biden and every patriotic Democratic politician and pundit have been saying about Trump for months. It’s a visceral warning of an imminent threat that is supported by Trump’s own words and actions. In fact, it has not been just Democrats issuing this warning. It has also been delivered by dozens of the people who know him best: His own staffers and former officials in his administration…

That is just the tip of the iceberg. Just a few of the Trump associates who have sounded the alarm include his former Chief of Staff (John Kelly), Secretary of State (Rex Tillerson), Secretary of Defense (Mark Esper), Attorney General (Bill Barr), National Security Advisor (John Bolton), U.N. Ambassador (Nikki Haley), Communications Director (Alyssa Farah Griffin), and many more.

Trump’s “rubber v glue” ploy has been in effect on a variety of policy issues. Whenever he is criticized on matters related to jobs, the economy, Social Security, immigration, etc., he immediately mirrors the attack, swatting it back to Biden with no factual basis whatsoever. He does the same thing with matters of character. Despite being notorious for lying, criminality, and cognitive decline, Trump tries flutily to paste those personality defects onto Biden.

This isn’t a new strategy either. Recall in 2016 when Trump regurgitated Hillary Clinton’s charge that he was “puppet” of Vladimir Putin, and his pitiful reply was “No puppet. You’re the puppet.” What a comeback!

Trump is so devoid of any shred of intelligence that he can’t even come up with an original criticism of Biden. He merely attempts to bounce his own flaws back to the President, who clearly has none of the problems that plague Trump. It’s a rather pathetic display of ignorance and impotence. But neither Trump nor his team have any other options. So look for more of that feeble framing in the debate, and the campaign going forward.

Newsmax Lies that FBI Planted Evidence at Mar-a-Lago – Trump Posts it and Misspells His Own Name

Two years ago the FBI executed a legal search warrant at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago bunker, seeking classified materials that he stole when he left the White House. The warrant was served after more than a year of haggling with Trump who blatantly lied to the FBI about the documents he still had.

Somehow, Trump is still obsessed with what he calls a “raid” at his home, despite the fact that the FBI recovered hundreds of top secret items that Trump said he didn’t have. So on the day before the much anticipated debate with President Biden, Trump leans on a new story by the propaganda purveyors at Newsmax, the MAGA-fied network that recently sought to dox the jurors at Trump’s “Hush Money” trial…

The story that Newsmax reported was based on the release of new photographs that the FBI took during the Mar-a-Lago search. They showed the boxes of highly sensitive materials strewn out in disarray with the contents spilling onto the floor and mixed in with personal items such as golf shirts and diet soda cans.

Newsmax host Greg Kelly was appalled. But not because of the breach of national security or Trump’s violation of the law. He launched into a preposterous rant accusing the FBI of planting the classified documents. Never mind that he had no factual basis whatsoever for that accusation. He went to say that the FBI is “a thoroughly corrupt organization,” and he recklessly slandered special counsel Jack Smith for “CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR.”

Kelly’s tirade caught the attention of Trump who shortly thereafter posted it on his floundering social media scam, Truth Social. But he was so frazzled with fury that the “stable genius,” who isn’t at all mentally failing, actually misspelled his own name

Greg Kelly, Newsmax: “This is out and out corruption. It’s the worst thing the FBI can do. The FBI BROUGHT IN papers in order to take out President Trump. They BROUGHT IN scandalous looking material TO TRY TO GET DONALD TTUMP IN TROUBLE, FALSELY. There is no doubt, the FBI is a thoroughly corrupt organization, which cannot be trusted.”

Newsmax ought to be more careful about slinging obviously defamatory lies around. They have already been sued for having done so previously. And they are clearly nervous about getting caught doing it again. They recently conducted a phone interview with Trump wherein they displayed a chyron that read “Newsmax Accepts the 2020 Election Results as Legal and Final.” That was in anticipation that Trump would again peddle his “Big Lie” about having lost in 2020.

For some reason Newsmax was concerned about not being held liable for that falsehood. But they are apparently not concerned about falsely accusing the FBI agents who conducted the search of serious criminal activities.

The fact that Newsmax would put out a story like this without a shred of evidence to support it confirms that it is not really a news network at all. And Trump hyping the fake story confirms that he is scared witless of the potential consequences he faces for all of his pending criminal cases.

While none of that really seems sufficient to justify the stupidity of both Newsmax and Trump for clinging to such a crackpot conspiracy theory, it is sufficient to establish the degree of desperation that they are suffering. Trump and His MAGA Minions are ‘Working the Refs’ for the CNN Debate. Will CNN Fall for It?

The pre-game banter in advance of the big Biden/Trump debate has begun and is consuming an inordinate amount of airtime on every news network. For the most part that time is spent with partisans and pundits speculating wildly about how they think the debate will unfold and who will emerge victorious.

Biden, Trump Debate

The Biden team has been conspicuously quiet throughout this promo extravaganza. That’s because the President is too busy being President for such games. And when he isn’t performing his duties as Leader of the Free World, he is preparing for the debate in a responsible manner by studying the issues and polishing his message. Meanwhile, Trump and his team are preparing by reenacting his rally rants, engaging in puerile propaganda, and demonstrating just how truly terrified they are of facing Biden.

Much of the focus of Trump’s tirades is aimed at the debate hosting network, CNN. That should come as no surprise as Trump has been attacking them for years as “fake news” and has relentlessly predicted their failure. Which, like every other Trump prediction, has not come to pass.

As debate night approaches, Trump and company are furiously laying the groundwork to explain why Trump is going to lose the debate to Biden. Among other things, they are accusing him of using performance enhancing drugs. Although if there were drugs that could improve a person’s intelligence and communication skills, shouldn’t we all be using them? Certainly every president should be required to use them.

However, that isn’t the only objective of the StormTrumpers. They are also “working the refs.” They believe that by accusing moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash of being biased against Trump before a single question has been asked, they can influence (i.e. intimidate) the moderators to alter their questions so that they can’t be criticized for allegedly favoring one candidate over the other.

What that means in practice is that they would formulate questions that are overtly hostile for Biden. In order to project a phony sense of “balance” they might require Biden – but not Trump – to comment on whether he is too old to serve. Or they might ask him about the conviction of his son Hunter, which has nothing to do with the presidency or the welfare of the American people. And again, they won’t seek any comments from Trump about his corrupt family that has been found liable for running a fraudulent charity, university, and for receiving billions of dollars from a Saudi prince.

Other biased questions that CNN’s moderators could be coerced into asking might involve Biden’s possession of classified documents, or his alleged profiteering from his White House position, or the flagrant lie that he supports open borders. Never mind that it is only Trump who deliberately stole and lied about having classified documents, willfully profited by extorting funds from foreigners, and brags about having killed a bipartisan immigration bill.

In light of all of that, it is patently absurd for Trump’s team to be working so hard to disparage the fairness of the journalists at CNN. Particularly when they have a virtual Ministry of Propaganda (aka Fox News) covering for them 24/7. Although, they are not even satisfied with that level of glassy-eyed sycophancy. If Fox fails to behave with unflinching adoration, they get hit by Trump…

One thing that can be relied on is that Trump, if he bothers to show up, will whine petulantly when he loses. He will blame everyone but himself. He will assert that the whole debate was “rigged” against him, just like the election, the polls, the trials, etc. That’s an argument that they are already planting in the press. GOP Speaker, MAGA Mike Johnson recently complained that he “expects that CNN is going to rig it as much as possible and make it as favorable as they possibly can for President Biden.” See? Everything is rigged. Trump isn’t is a loser. He’s a victim. And that’s something we’re supposed to want as a president?

CNN must resist these attempts to coerce them into skewing their moderation of the debate. It is perfectly acceptable to ask both candidates tough questions and seek responsive answers with directed follow-ups. But it is not acceptable to come down harder on one candidate because the other is a big, orange-hued baby who orders his cohorts to try to slant the playing field. Can CNN hold steady? We’ll see on Thursday.

CNN Bumps Flaky Trump Flack, Giving Steve Bannon and Trump Another Excuse to Dump Biden Debate

One of the most destructive aspects of modern media has been its casual tolerance of flagrant dishonesty by deliberately deceitful politicians and pundits. They justify their submission to liars as a commitment to “balance,” a phony objective that obscures a proper journalistic commitment to truth.

On Monday morning, Donald Trump dispatched his campaign press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, to unfurl a litany of lies on CNN. In her typical fashion, Leavitt attempted to dodge every substantive question and replace coherent answers with infantile insults.

Since the Trump team has no reality-based criticisms of President Biden, they have to rely entirely on childish personal attacks and wholly manufactured controversies that invariably complain that poor crybaby Trump is a victim of vast cabals that are “rigging” everything from elections to trials, and now to debates. On this occasion, Leavitt griped that Trump is…

“…knowingly going into a hostile environment on this very network, on CNN, with debate moderators who have made their opinions about him very well known over the past eight years and their biased coverage of him.”

So why did Trump agree to this debate, with Jake Tapper and Dana Bash as moderators, and all the rules, when he’s convinced that they are all aligned against him? He can’t claim that he’s bravely entering the lion’s den if he does nothing but whine about it. Which is all that Leavitt was doing. To her credit, Hunt replied, “Ma’am, we’re going to stop this interview if you’re going to keep attacking my colleagues.”

Leavitt did not budge from her mission to malign Tapper and Bash. And true to her word, Hunt ended the interview. That’s exactly how a credible journalist should deal with determined liars. They should do it more often. In fact, they shouldn’t even invite people known to dispense blatant lies on their programs in first place.

This so outraged Leavitt that she scampered off to the safety of Steve Bannon’s “War Room” Internet show to unburden herself of the unpleasantness she endured on CNN. And Bannon provided precisely the sort of sympathy and consolation that Leavitt was seeking in the following exchange…

Leavitt: CNN showed their hand with me on their network this morning. The fact that they cut off my microphone simply for repeating words that Jake Tapper himself has said. Lies about President Trump. […]

Bannon: CNN owes you an apology today. And if we don’t get that apology to Karoline Leavitt and to the Trump campaign and to MAGA today, President Trump should cancel this.

First of all, Leavitt was not simply repeating Tapper’s words. She was purposefully mischaracterizing them and sanitizing Trump’s noxious adoption of Hitlerian rhetoric. Surprisingly, an excellent example of this was posted by White nationalist Jack Posobiec…

Furthermore, Bannon’s threat that Trump should back out of the debate with Biden if MAGA doesn’t get an apology is a transparent excuse for Trump to chicken out. And the frequency with which Trump’s sycophants keep coming up with these excuses is the best evidence that he is scared witless and is desperately searching for an escape clause, or at least an explanation for why he’s going to lose. That’s a pretty thorough campaign of complaining and excuse-making for someone who wants to present himself as a strongman taking on a senile commie. And it’s equally notable that Biden is the one who appears to be confidant and strong and mentally stable. He doesn’t need to do any of this pathetic whimpering because he knows his stuff. And he knows that Trump has always been a coward and weakling and he will be seen as such by the nation on Thursday’s debate.

Donald Trump and his sycophants in Congress and the MAGA media are working feverishly to explain why Trump is going to lose the upcoming debate with President Biden. They are apparently aware – and terrified – at the prospect of Trump engaging with the President for 90 minutes without a TelePrompTer.

Considering the performances Trump has been delivering at his recent cult rallies, the fears of his handlers and supporters are fully justified. His rambling raves have included musings about being killed by electrocution or sharks, telling his devotees that he has more than enough votes and doesn’t need theirs, claiming to have more “wounds” than any president ever (e.g. Kennedy and Lincoln), and repeatedly praising “the late, great, Hannibal Lector.” That’s not exactly a promising prelude to the big debate on Thursday.

Joining the Trumpsters who are pre-conceding that Biden is likely to prevail in the debate, is his former White House “doctor” Ronny Jackson, who is now an ultra-MAGA congressman from Texas. Jackson rushed over to Fox News for some emergency rehabilitation of Trump’s sagging public profile. And in an interview with Fox’s Senior Trump-Fluffer, Maria Bartiromo, he offered the following diagnosis of a candidate “jacked up” on drugs that sounds very much like Trump…

“Those drugs are out there. They treat the cognition part of it. They try to make it where he can think straighter and he’s not lost and confused as much. And then there’s drugs that actually treats alertness like Adderall and other amphetamine type drugs. Maybe Provigil and things like that. And then there’s a host of drugs that try to take the agitated edge off most of these cognitive disorders.

“So I feel like they’re probably giving him a little bit of all of this. They just have to get a little bit of distract. They all have different times of onset. They have different durations. They interact with each other. So it’s a challenge. But they have no choice with what they’re working with. They don’t have much to work with.”

Absent any identification of the subject to whom Jackson was referring, it could easily be assumed that he was talking about Trump. Every word of that rant describes Trump’s psychoses: his cognitive decline, his waning alertness (he kept falling asleep at his own criminal trial), and his constant state of hostile agitation. And without the deceitful editing of “cheap fake” videos, Biden exhibits none of those problems.

Jackson may not be the best surrogate for Trump on these matters. After all, he was known as “The Candyman” for the way he freely dispensed prescription drugs while working in the White House. He was also alleged to have prescribed drugs for himself. And he was demoted by the Navy from Rear Admiral to Captain for similar misconduct.

What’s more, Jackson is the “doctor” who allegedly administered the infamous cognitive test that Trump keeps bragging that he “aced.” You know, the one where he was asked to identify an elephant and count backwards. And despite being Trump’s doctor in the White House for four years, Trump couldn’t even remember his name, calling him Ronny “Johnson” twice at a recent rally.

In the same interview with Bartiromo, Jackson said that has sent five letters asking that President Biden submit to a cognitive test. According to Jackson they were all ignored by whoever he sent them to (he doesn’t say). And now he says he is sending another letter to the current White House physician “demanding” that Biden “submit to a drug test before and after the debate.” Or what? He has no authority to make any demands. And notice that his impotent demands don’t apply to Trump. Perhaps Jackson knows something about Trump that he doesn’t want to become public.

Not to be left out, Trump himself is joining the throng of Trumpists slandering Biden. And true to form, he is doing it in the most noxious and profane way possible. But could we expect any else from Trump?
