Fox News Embroils Kamala Harris in an Insane (and Fake) International Incident

Fox News is scraping the bottom of the barrel in search of anything they can spin into a scandal. They’ve been doing that for the past four months since Joe Biden was inaugurated as President. Their desperation led to cringeworthy “news” alerts involving Dr. Seuss, Mr. Potato Head, and the horror of a Kamala Harris children’s book.

Fox News, Kamala Harris

Speaking of Kamala Harris, Fox News has been obsessed with the fact that she hasn’t been holding frequent press conferences, something that vice-presidents rarely do. Fox reports every single day on how how many days since her last press conference, but still hasn’t managed to spark any interest in that.

Consequently, Fox is now upping the ante with a story that is burning with international intrigue. It all began Friday when Harris welcomed the President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in, to the White House. This is the headline that Fox News composed to report this meeting: “Kamala Harris wipes hand after greeting South Korean leader.”

As you can see, Fox News, demonstrating their commitment to reputable journalism, was intensely focused on the substance of this summit and how it affects the American people. They even included a video of the Harris “gaffe” that they plucked from Twitter.

The article states that “Harris was caught on camera Friday immediately wiping her right hand on her jacket after shaking hands with South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the White House.” They assert that this is an unforgivably rude insult to President Moon. Never mind that Moon didn’t appear to even notice it. That may be because all Harris really did was briefly touch her jacket. But even if she had executed the alleged “wipe,” SO F**KING WHAT?

People are allowed to engage in whatever harmless personal hygiene activities they want. Especially during a deadly global pandemic. What if Moon’s hand was sweaty? Would Fox prefer it if Harris walked around with a wet hand for the rest the day? What do you think Donald Trump would have done? He probably would have ordered some KFC because, you know, it’s finger lickin’ good.

This isn’t the first time that Fox News has tried to manufacture a scandal about Harris. They previously accused her of disrespecting the Marines stationed at the airport when she boarded Air Force Two by not returning a salute. However, the Vice-President is not in the chain of military command and has no obligation to do so.

This is just another in a series of pathetic attempts to malign Harris, and by extension, President Biden and Democrats in general. And it’s further proof that Fox is not – and never has been – news.

UPDATE: This is now a two day story as Fox News’ Outnumbered devoted a segment to it on Monday.

GOP Rep Calls It By Its Name on Fox News: ‘A Trump-Inspired Insurrection on the Capitol’

On this Sunday morning truth got a twofer. It’s rare that honesty ever creeps into a story on Fox News. and it’s even more rare when the truth-teller is a Republican member of Congress. However, that political oddity occurred when the subject of the January 6th MAGA riots in Washington, D.C. came up during this week’s Fox News Sunday.

Donald Trump Insurrection

Chris Wallace interviewed Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who has been a frequent critic of his party confederates for sucking up to Donald Trump and promulgating the “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “stolen” from him. Kinzinger unleashed a flurry of honesty that is not often seen in Republicans, and almost never on Fox News (video below):

“The American people deserve the truth, and my party to this point has said things like it was hugs and kisses. It was Antifa and BLM. It was anything but what it was, which was a Trump-inspired insurrection on the Capitol. And I think now what’s gonna happen if this thing fails is that Nancy Pelosi will run a Select Committee and this could go all the way until 2024.”

That commentary is poles apart from anything that most of the GOP StormTrumpers are saying. McCarthy himself has tread on the surreal by insisting that “I don’t think anybody is questioning the legitimacy of the presidential election.” Somebody should introduce McCarthy to the former reality TV game show host who is pathologically obsessed with it.

During the segment the subject of the Democratic initiative to impanel an independent, bipartisan committee came up. The purpose of the committee would be to investigate the circumstances that led to the January 6th riots. Wallace asked Kinzinger whether the objections to the committee by House minority leader, Kevin McCarthy, were a conflict of interest since he was likely to be called as a witness. Kinzinger replied…

“I wouldn’t say it’s a conflict of interest because Kevin is the leader. There is probably a lot of people that are gonna be subject to be called in front of any investigation on this. Even criminal investigations.

But I do think Kevin has failed to tell the truth to the Republicans and to the American people. […] The 74 million voters who voted for Donald Trump, a number of them believe that the election was stolen, believe it because their leaders have not told them otherwise. The people they trust have either been silent or not told them the truth.”

Kinzinger added that McCarthy’s positions have been strikingly hypocritical. He pointed out that McCarthy originally criticized Trump for failing to call off his insurrectionists. On the House floor McCarthy said that “The president bears responsibility for Wednesday’s attack on Congress by mob rioters. He should have immediately denounced the mob when he saw what was unfolding.” But instead, Trump told the rioters that he loved them. And shortly thereafter McCarthy made the pilgrimage to Mar-a-Lago to kiss Dear Leader’s… let’s just say ring.

Now McCarthy refuses to even answer questions about whether his caucus members were in communication with the rioters during the assault. That’s how most of the GOP has fallen in line behind Trump. Which makes Kinzinger’s contrary position all the more courageous.

GOP QAnon Rep Calls Pelosi Mentally Ill, Then Compares Face Masks to the Holocaust

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia has distinguished herself as the Fox News approved QAnon mouthpiece for congressional Republicans. Her manic raving is frequently so far over the edge that it’s impossible to imagine anyone could take her seriously. And yet she is sitting member of Congress with all of the rights and privileges that go along with that position.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, QAnon

This week Greene may have outdone herself during an interview by Real America’s Voice host, David Brody, on the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN). The subject was the mandate in the House of Representatives to wear face masks, a policy that is expected to remain in place per CDC guidelines, or until all members are vaccinated. Which is a problem because some Republicans are stubbornly and ignorantly refusing to get the shot. When Brody asked Greene about the policy it led to this chilling exchange:

Brody: This is Nancy Pelosi saying – literally talking about this idea of segregating – segregation – like literally putting unvaccinated House members in a different area.
Pelosi Video: We have to wait for them to be vaccinated. Because they are selfishly an endangerment to other people, including staff people here […]
Greene: This woman is mentally ill. You know we can look back at a time in history where people were told to wear a gold star and they were definitely treated like second class citizens. So much so that they were put in trains and taken to gas chambers in Nazi Germany. And this is exactly the type of abuse that Nancy Pelosi is talking about. […] This is a woman that is hyper-focused on her own power and control.

Brody was visibly disturbed at the notion that, in order to insure the health and safety of everyone, unvaccinated members would be socially distanced from others. But Green’s reply was what truly took this discussion over the top. Setting aside her infantile insult about Pelosi’s mental health, Greene’s analogy could not have been more nauseating.

Could Greene actually believe that there is any similarity between a requirement to wear a face mask that every health expert agrees will saves lives, and the genocidal murder of millions of Jews by Nazis in Germany? Well, actually, she does believe that. When asked later about her comment comparing mask mandates to the Holocaust she replied, “I stand by all of my statements. I said nothing wrong.”

So there you have it. Given the opportunity to correct or clarify her disgusting and deranged comparison, Greene doubled down. Now we know exactly where she stands on this issue. And as long she remains a member of the Republican caucus in the House, every one of her GOP colleagues shares responsibility for this position. They have the power to expel her, and if they choose not to, then they own her and her noxious ideas.

R.I.P. Irony: Fox News Shill Kayleigh McEnany Slams ‘Cuomo Nepotism Network'(CNN)

Before she had even stopped working for Donald Trump, press secretary Kayleigh McEnany had already been hired by Fox News. It was an easy transition since she would be doing essentially the same job: Lying about Trump and other right-wing politicians and policies.

Kayleigh McEnany, Donald Trump

Today McEnany is a co-host of Fox’s Outnumbered where four partisan, conservative women agree fervently with a conservative male guest. On Friday’s episode they did a segment on CNN anchor, Chris Cuomo, who was reported to have given advice to his brother, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. With all of the nonsense that Fox News has tried desperately to whip up into scandals, this one actually has some basis to it. While it is understandable that brothers would talk to each other, Chris should not have directly worked with Andrew and his statehouse staff.

That said, McEnany’s outrage over the issue was another nail in the coffin of irony. Her comments demonstrated that she is utterly lacking in both self-awareness and language skills. She said that…

“I agree with [Kyle Smith] at the New York Post, who said CNN now stands for the ‘Cuomo Nepotism Network.’ It is laughable that he did not either get fired or, in the very least, disciplined because there’s a lot more to this [Washington] Post story about him advising his brother on the sexual assault allegations.”

Let’s start with the fact that McEnany doesn’t know what the word “nepotism” means. It is the practice of favoring family members in employment. Chris and Andrew Cuomo are, of course, related, but they do not work for or with each other. So there is no nepotism whatsoever by CNN.

You might think McEnany would know this having worked for Trump, who gave his daughter, Ivanka, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, cushy White House jobs. To this day no one knows what the heck they did. Trump also hired the sons of his personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, and his Attorney General, Bill Barr. All of those hires are classical examples of nepotism. Meanwhile, her new boss, Fox News, gave the coveted position of White House correspondent to Peter Doocy, son of Fox and Friends co-host, Steve Doocy.

In addition to McEnany’s stunted vocabulary, she is also complaining about a news anchor inappropriately counseling a powerful politician. But she must know that her colleagues at her new employer, Fox News, regularly advised Trump. Sean Hannity was said to talk with Trump on the phone every night before bedtime. Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham, Lou Dobbs, Maria Bartiromo, and Jeanine Pirro, were also frequent advisors to Trump, and some even attended his traveling cult rallies.

The bottom line is that McEnany got everything wrong. She was wrong about accusing CNN of nepotism. And she was wrong not to notice that her old boss was guilty of it. And she was wrong to pretend that Fox News anchors weren’t far more involved with Trump on a political basis than Chris Cuomo ever was with Andrew. And she has no problem with lying about anything and everything. Which all goes to prove that Fox News knew what they were doing when they hired her. She is the perfect manifestation of everything that is wrong with Fox News.

Rep. Boebert Forgets (Forgives?) Hamas Attacks on Israel During Trump’s Term

The Republican supporters of Donald Trump share a psychological profile with the devotees of spiritual cults. They virtually worship Trump as a divine figure who is all-knowing and infallible. It’s why they continue to support him even after he admits to committing sexual assaults, cages babies that he ripped from their mothers’ arms, and whose negligent and incompetent mismanagement of the COVID pandemic resulted in the deaths of more than 580,000 Americans.

Lauren Boebert

One of Trump’s most ardent cult followers is Rep. Lauren Boebert, a Republican congresswoman from Colorado whose political doctrine is comprised of a reverence for guns and QAnon conspiracy theories. On Friday Boebert stepped up to give testimony to her Trumpian faith from her Twitter pew. She tweeted that…

Boebert has a sickly selective memory if she actually believes what she wrote. Things were not “quiet” at all in the Middle East during Trump’s term. In fact, there were numerous attacks against Israel by the terrorist organization Hamas every year that Trump was in office. These are just a few examples out of dozens:

  • 2020: Nearly 100 rockets were fired from 23 February until 11 pm on 24 February.
  • 2019: During the first week of May, 600 rockets were fired at Israel by Hamas or other terrorist organizations.
  • 2018: On July 14, 174 rockets or mortar shells were fired into Israel from Gaza.
  • 2017: Around 11pm, a barrage of rockets was fired from Sinai at Israel.

Boebert’s definition of “quiet” must be from the same GOP fictionary that defined the deadly Capitol Hill insurrection on January 6th as a normal tourist visit.” And her assertion that “Trump was the Peace President” is as deranged as – well, as Trump, who used the same phrase about himself last week:

“When I was in office we were known as the Peace Presidency, because Israel’s adversaries knew that the United States stood strongly with Israel and there would be swift retribution if Israel was attacked. Under Biden, the world is getting more violent and more unstable because Biden’s weakness and lack of support for Israel is leading to new attacks on our allies.”

Clearly Trump is the weak one who never supplied the “swift retribution” he brags about. And it was Biden who was thanked by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for helping to secure a cease fire during the recent hostilities.

Boebert’s deliberate omission of the readily available facts regarding attacks on Israel is typical of right-wing disinformation. But by editing the historical record, Boebert is, in effect, forgiving the terrorists for their attacks. She surely can’t hold them accountable for attacks that she doesn’t even acknowledge took place. And in her blind loyalty to Trump, she is only demonstrating her ignorance, dishonesty, and craven lust for appreciation from Dear Leader.

McCarthy Won’t Deny that Republicans Were Communicating with Capitol Rioters

It’s been more than four months since Donald Trump’s Insurrectionist Brigades stormed Capitol Hill in an attempt to prevent members of Congress from completing their constitutionally mandated duty to certify of the 2020 presidential election. It was a deadly and profoundly anti-democratic assault on the rights of the American people.

Donald Trump, Kevin McCarthy

The StormTrumpers were incited by the ex-president, along with his accomplices from the ranks of the Republican congressional caucus and the right-wing media. And in the months that have transpired since the atrocities of January 6th, none of those conspirators have been held accountable.

A bipartisan, independent commission was proposed to study what happened and to develop practices to avoid any similar events in the future. However, Republican leaders in Congress have have come out against it. It is isn’t hard to imagine why they would want to avoid such a study. What is already known through public remarks and accounts by witnesses is highly incriminating to GOP members of Congress and Trump. And that explains the nervous reaction by House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy when questioned about the matter on Thursday:

Question: Do you think it’s a conflict of interest for members to be voting on a Commission that they might have to potentially be witnesses for and provide information on?
McCarthy: No, because who knows what they’re gonna do on the Commission. So no, I don’t think so.
Question: Can you be absolutely certain that none of your members were in any communication with any of the people who stormed Capitol Hill?
McCarthy: Thank you for the question. Everybody have a nice day.

First of all, McCarthy’s lack of concern about any conflicts of interest completely ignores the question. For one thing, he knows exactly what the Commission will do. It’s purpose has been clearly defined. And it’s impossible not to notice the glaring conflicts of interest by people like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Sen. Josh Hawley who promoted the protests and cheered on the protesters. Not to mention Leader McCarthy himself who admitted that he spoke to Trump while the riots were in progress. His testimony would be mandatory for the Commission to complete its mission.

Thus, it isn’t surprising that when McCarthy was asked whether he could “be absolutely certain that none of your members were in any communication with any of the people who stormed Capitol Hill,” he chose to terminate the press conference and slink away. Had he answered he would have had to include himself, his fellow Republicans, and Trump, all of whom had such communications.

Consequently, the bill that passed in the House to create the Commission is almost certain to fail in the Senate. Trump has dictated that he is opposed to it, and his minions – McCarthy and Sen. GOP leader, Mitch McConnell) are nothing if not obedient.

However, there may be a silver lining to the failure of the bill. Afterward, the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, would be free to create a Select Committee to do what the Commission would have done. And she wouldn’t have to compromise with Republicans on the ground rules. She could have a majority of Democrats on the Committee, and control the procedures such as the issuing subpoenas.

So in the end, the Republican intransigence at the behest of Trump will only come back to bite him in the behind. But not to worry, he has plenty of GOP flunkies who will kiss it and make it better.

Trump Unleashes More ‘Witch Hunt’ Victim-Whining Over Criminal Probe in New York

Throughout the one-term presidency of Donald Trump, he has been implicated in numerous criminal activities. They include making hush money payments to porn porn stars, collusion with Russians seeking to interfere with an election, obstruction of justice, financial and tax fraud connected to his real estate business, swindling his charitable foundation, and more election misconduct in Georgia.

Donald Trump, Witch Hunt

Now out of office, the legal perils of the twice-impeached, former reality TV game show host continue to unfold. The New York Attorney General’s office has announced that that office’s civil investigations of Trump have been escalated to include criminal offenses. This significantly increases the severity of the charges against Trump and the potential sentences. Consequently, Trump is responding in a measured, rational, and intelligent manner to this difficult situation.

Just kidding! Naturally, Trump is flying off the handle with unhinged outbursts and preposterous countercharges. He posted his vexatious Temper TanTrump™ on the lame and poorly visited blog that he launched after being booted from Twitter and Facebook for lying. His rant began…

“I have just learned, through leaks in the mainstream media, that after being under investigation from the time I came down the escalator 5 ½ years ago, including the fake Russia Russia Russia Hoax, the 2 year, $48M, No Collusion Mueller Witch Hunt, Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax #2, and others, that the Democrat New York Attorney General has ‘informed’ my organization that their ‘investigation’ is no longer just a civil matter but also potentially a ‘criminal’ investigation working with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.”

First of all, the news of the criminal probe wasn’t “leaked.” It was released to the press publicly by the New York Attorney General’s office. However, it was nice of Trump to remind everyone of some of his flagrant misdeeds. It was also a nostalgic trip to the not-so-distant past to hear Trump yammering about the “Witch Hunt” again. Trump’s tediously long post also complained that…

“…the District Attorney and Attorney General are possessed, at an unprecedented level, with destroying the political fortunes of President Donald J. Trump and the almost 75 million people who voted for him.”

The evidence that somebody else wrote this for Trump is clear in the use of the third person to refer to Trump. This screed is also attempting to divert attention away from an investigation focused of his own perfidious behavior, to some kind of attack on those who voted for him. That’s pretty delusional, but not quite as delusional as his closing:

“Working in conjunction with Washington, these Democrats want to silence and cancel millions of voters because they don’t want ‘Trump’ to run again. […] No President has been treated the way I have.”

If Trump and/or his voters were “canceled” (a vapid and overused buzzword that has lost all meaning), it isn’t by this investigation. It was by the 81 million people who voted for President Biden. Trump still can’t accept that reality. So he continues to propagate the “Big Lie” that the election was stolen from him. That inflammatory rhetoric – which incited a deadly insurrection in Washington, D.C., – is all over his blog, even as his Republican sycophants in Congress obediently regurgitate it.

At least Trump is consistent in his ambition to be the most whiny and cowardly president in the history of the United States. He never stops playing the victim despite having been a privileged, trust fund crybaby who never worked a day in his life. How anyone can regard this relentless bellyacher as a leader with strength is confounding.

Fox News Ignores Biden’s Infrastructure Plans to Obsess Over His Wearing a Face Mask

President Biden has really been causing trouble for Fox News. For the past four months he has demonstrated a high level of competency and compassion as a leader. That is driving the folks at Fox nuts. And Biden, the swine, is probably doing it on purpose. Likewise he is striving to be “boring” as another means of tormenting the Foxies. Worst of all, Biden is achieving verifiable progress on the nation’s most critical issues such as the economy and the COVID pandemic. His success is evident in his high approval polling and the popularity of the Democratic agenda.

Joe Biden, Donald Trump Baby, Fake News

Consequently, fox News has had to struggle to come up with derogatory story lines on the President. You might think that they would be pretty good at this considering how much “news” they make up themselves. But their record is pretty sad. It consists mainly of trivialities like blaming Biden for sauce shortages at Chick-fil-A, and his fiendish plot to “take down America.” That’s when they aren’t dispensing flagrant racism or hyping abstract and artificial notions like “cancel culture” and “wokeness” that nobody really understands.

On Tuesday morning Fox News assigned their intrepid White House correspondent, Peter Doocy, to tag along with the President to a Ford plant in Dearborn, Michigan. While there, Fox News chose not to broadcast any of Biden’s speech (full video below) that covered salient portions of his infrastructure agenda, as well as plans to address the climate crisis and job creation. Instead, Doocy delivered this breaking news exclusive report:

“The President is saying a lot by showing us what he’s wearing. We have some new video. You can see at an electric vehicle plant in Dearborn, Michigan, he has got a face mask covering his mouth and nose. Which conflicts with the CDC guidance that you don’t have to do that, or socially distance indoors or outdoors as long as you are vaccinated. Which the President has been since before taking the oath of office.”

Doocy is also “saying a lot by showing us” what he regards as newsworthy reporting. Never mind that Doocy didn’t bother to ascertain whether or not there was a company policy at the plant that required masks. That appears likely since everyone else in the video was wearing them. Doocy also didn’t address whether the other people in the video had been vaccinated. And Doocy misrepresented the CDC guidance which actually says that masks should be worn indoors with people who aren’t vaccinated.

This is what happens when a propaganda network is incapable of concocting “scandals” to denigrate their ideological foes. It’s a pathetic spectacle of futility that will fall flat for everyone except for their loyal and gullible regular viewers. But to what end? Fox already has them convinced that Biden is a radical socialist dictator. Does is it really make any difference if they also think he’s one of them mask wearing libruls?

GOP Sen. Tom Cotton Baselessly Accuses the Associated Press of Colluding with Hamas

There has been a measure of devolution observable in the United States Congress. Some of its newer members on the Republican side are adherents to preposterous conspiracy theories and have a disturbing aversion to facts and/or truth-telling. Names that rise to the top of that list include Lauren Boebert (who recently blamed President Biden for a shortage of Chick-fil-A dipping sauce), and Marjorie Taylor Greene (who is a committed devotee of QAnon).

Tom Cotton

Another Republican conspiracy crackpot is Sen. Tom Cotton. On Monday Cotton took the Senate floor to do his best Tucker Carlson impersonation. That’s a talent that consists mainly of asking a bunch of stupid questions without providing any answers, but making sure that whatever is being insinuated will stick in the gullible minds of his target audience.

Cotton’s topic was the Israeli bombing of a building in Gaza that housed offices of the Associated Press, and also, allegedly, a Hamas military facility. The bombing was highly controversial and was covered by the media in detail. However, the press missed some of the questions that Cotton raised, mainly because they were really stupid questions:

“Whys is the Associated Press sharing a building with Hamas? Surely these intrepid reporters knew who their neighbors were. Did they knowingly allow themselves to be used as human shields by U.S. designated terrorist organization? Did the AP pull punches and decline to report for years on Hamas’ misdeeds? I submit that the AP has some uncomfortable questions to answer.”

Let’s take this from the top. Whether the AP was sharing a building with Hamas is not an established fact. Cotton has no evidence of it, nor does U.S. intelligence (at least as far as they’re admitting). Israel says they have evidence but have delayed releasing it while they are preoccupied with the ongoing conflict. So Cotton’s first question is based on an assumption for which he has no facts.

Cotton goes on to make a back-handed compliment suggesting that the “intrepid reporters” at AP would know all of their neighbors. Again, there is nothing to support that assertion. And there is no reason to assume that the AP had investigated every other tenant in the building. What’s more, if Hamas occupied an office there, they would likely have kept it secret and wouldn’t have been running around with Hamas armbands or other identifying insignia.

From there Cotton makes a repulsive charge that the AP might have been allowing themselves to be used as human shields. WTHF? It is profoundly irresponsible and reckless to make such a charge without irrefutable proof. He is, in effect, accusing journalists of engaging in terrorism.

Finally, Cotton implies that because of the alleged proximity of a Hamas office, the AP would deliberately distort their reporting to benefit Hamas. Again, Cotton is making a horrific accusation without a shred of evidence. He doesn’t even supply any AP stories that he thinks might have soft-peddled Hamas. He’s just taking wild swings in the dark.

This is the sort of thing you would expect from a disreputable cretin like Tucker Carlson. But for a U.S. senator to be flinging unsupported allegations as serious as these from the Senate floor is a grotesque abuse of his position.

Unfortunately, that is what we have come to expect from a Republican Party that still believes that Donald Trump won the 2020 election and that his victory was stolen from him by a massive cabal of Democrats, Republicans, journalists, election officials, voting machine manufacturers, Venezuelans, Germans, and Ukrainians. So if anyone should have to answer some uncomfortable question it’s Cotton and his GOP confederates who actually did support the domestic terrorists who invaded Congress on January sixth.

UH-OH: Former Trump Communications Director Blasts GOP as ‘Morally Reprehensible’

Among the many failures that Donald Trump presided over was the ethical wasteland that characterized so much of his administration. Trump has amassed a record for lying that will never be approached by future presidents. And in four years he has had an unprecedented number associates indicted, convicted, or otherwise fall under legal scrutiny. Most recently it’s his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani.

Donald Trump Circling the Drain

With his humiliating loss for reelection to President Joe Biden, Trump sought to pad his own disgraceful resume with a frenzy of delusional allegations about the election being “stolen” from him. Those wholly unsupported assertions led to riots in Washington, D.C. by his insurrectionist cult followers. And to its everlasting shame, the pitifully compliant Republican Party fell in line, for the most part, backing up Trump’s reckless alternative reality.

There are, however, some rare exceptions. Representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger have courageously called out Trump’s dishonest defamation of democracy. And now another truth-teller has come forward. Alyssa Farah was Trump’s White House Communications Director. She resigned shortly after the January 6th insurrection. And on Monday morning she was interviewed by Mehdi Hasan on the NBC streaming network, Peacock (video below):

Hasan: What has happened to your party. Your party has gotten more extreme, not less.
Farah: The GOP is careening down what I would say is both a strategically unwise path, but also a morally reprehensible one. Just to be completely candid with you.

Liz Chaney did the right thing. We shouldn’t be commending people for simply telling the facts. Facts matter. We need to tell the truth. She did the right thing. But that shouldn’t be brave or heroic. That should just be what our leaders do.

But unfortunately, here’s the problem the GOP is facing: This isn’t going away. Voters have not forgotten about January 6th. The Republican Party has a number of problems. We need addition, not subtraction, to be able to win back the principles that we actually care about. But right now there’s this decision that we care more about loyalty to the former president. Care more about trying to gloss over what happened with the election and then January 6th.

And my unsolicited advice to my fellow Republicans would be: the truth tends to come to the top. It’s better to address it now, to come to grips with what went wrong and accept it. Because we’re gonna be dealing with this going into the midterms. We’re gonna be dealing with it going into 2024.

Farah hit the nail on it’s head with phrase “morally reprehensible.” That could apply to almost everything Trump did in office. Recall his caging of children and separating them from their parents. And his overt racism and acceptance of support from racist hate groups. And his infantile insults directed at critics in politics and the press. And especially his negligent mishandling of the COVID pandemic. As for Farah’s remarks about Trump’s demands for loyalty, that could be observed in Lindsey Graham’s reverential devotion to Trump, despite the abuse he’s taken.

Farah does not fit the profile of a typical never-Trumper. She is the daughter of Joseph Farah, the founder and publisher of the rabidly right-wing conspiracy rag, World Net Daily. She wrote for WND for a couple of years, then went on to work for Laura Ingraham’s radio show and congressional Republicans Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan. She also served as press secretary to Vice-President Mike Pence before being promoted to the White House press office.

It is difficult to reconcile the penitence of people like Farah who were perfectly happy to tolerate the atrocities of the Trump presidency. But if progressives are going to make the argument that Republicans and Trumpists were wrong, then we have to be able to accept it when our arguments succeed. And just because we can appreciate when a hardcore right-winger sees the light, it doesn’t mean they are forgiven for all past sins. It just means that their contribution to bringing out the truth is welcome.

When a committed conservative Republicans like Farah and Cheney are willing to talk openly about Trump’s despicable personality flaws, it might be fair to assume that a corner has been turned. Perhaps the field is safe for other Republicans to speak honestly about Trump. Of course, that will only make Trump even more enraged and unhinged. But the more of that that the American people see, the better our chances of getting past this aberration in our political lives. Time will tell if Farah is just a harmless leak, or the harbinger of the dam being about to burst.
