Voters are More Likely to Support Democrats When Told They are Running Against Trump, MAGA

As the midterm election approaches, President Biden and the Democratic Party continue face challenges in their quest to retain majorities in the House and the Senate. While the economy is strong, wages are growing, and job creation is booming, many people are struggling with inflation and higher gas prices, neither of which is controlled by any president.

Donald Trump Walking the Plank

The importance of maintaining – and even expanding – the Democratic caucus in Congress is critical to a wide array of issues including gun regulation reform, reproductive choice, fair taxation, health care, and the environment. What’s more, congressional probes into the criminal activities of Trump and his cronies would be summarily halted if Republicans were to seize power. And GOP leaders have already promised to initiate persecutorial probes of Biden and other Democrats.

Consequently, the need to persuade voters to back Democrats and cast ballots in the midterm election could not be more crucial to advancing the interests of the American people, and to democracy itself. The question is how best to achieve that goal.

RELATED: BIDEN: Americans Have a Choice Between Two Very Different Sets of Values: Ultra-MAGA or Sanity

A new poll by Priorities USA, a Democratic SuperPAC, is shining some light onto a path forward for Democrats. They surveyed “persuadable” voters in swing states and found that…

“Democrats would lose narrowly to Republicans among targeted voters when people were simply asked if they wanted a Democrat or a Republican in office. On that generic ballot question, Republicans got 44% of the surveyed – which include battleground state persuadable voters and those who are at least somewhat unmotivated to vote this fall – while Democrats got 41% support. That small difference could be pivotal in Senate and gubernatorial races in those states.”

However, “when Trump and his Make America Great Again [MAGA] agenda are brought into the picture, it brightens for Democrats, the polling found” that when…

“Asked if they’d prefer a Democrat who supports Biden or a Republican who supports Trump, those polled preferred the Democrat to the Republican, 41% to 31%. On that question, the hypothetical Democrat got 11% of GOP voters who picked the Republican in the generic ballot question and 32% of third-party voters who initially went with the GOP contender.”

This is affirmation of America’s aversion to the twice-impeached reality TV game show host and failed real estate huckster. His repugnant personality, inflated ego, callous insensitivity, incessant lying, overt bigotry, and unrepentant criminal tendencies, have clearly had an effect on the population at large. And Democrats would be well advised to make note of those “qualities” in their campaigns between now and November.

For his [part, Trump continues to exhibit symptoms of his malignant narcissism in posts to his failing social media website. On Wednesday he delusionally ranted that “It is being stated by almost all that Joe Biden is the worst President in history.” Naturally, Trump offered no support for that wildly fictional claim, because there isn’t any. The truth is that, according to a survey of presidential historians, Trump is the 4th worst president in history. And according to several other rankings, Trump came in either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd worst.

RELATED: Trump’s Irrelevance is Increasing, as are His Pitifully Delusional Attempts to Pretend it’s Not

All of this drives home the point that Trump is a dead weight around the neck of the GOP. And that should be featured prominently in ads supporting Democratic candidates. However, giving Trump the whacking that he so richly deserves should not be done to the exclusion of positive portrayals of Democrats and the Democratic agenda.

Voters still need to have an affirmative reason to go to the polls. And if Democrats can balance the Trump bashing with affirmations of Democratic accomplishments, they might just avoid the typical losses that occur for the party in power during the midterms.

POLL: 44% of ‘Law and Order’ Republicans are Totally Cool with All the Mass Shootings in America

To any of those who still refuse to acknowledge that unfettered access to guns are an existential threat to American society, they should let this fact sink in: There have been thirty-three mass shootings in the United States just since the massacre in Uvalde, Texas, two weeks ago. And 246 mass shooting so far this year.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump, Republican, GOP

These horrific crimes have resulted in untold pain and grief. Many of the victims have been children. The vast majority of the American people have had enough and are disgusted by the failure of their representatives to do something about it.

RELATED: Ted Cruz Babbles that if All Firearms in America Were Eliminated there Would Be More Murders

However, let’s be clear about who is obstructing the path to common sense solutions that most Americans support. A new CBS News poll has affirmed what every previous survey has found to be gumming up the works. When asked if mass shootings are “something we have to accept,” 44% of Republicans say that it is. Contrast that with only 15% of Democrats and 27% of Independents who believe that such slaughter is tolerable.

What’s more, a huge majority (72%) of Americans believe that mass shootings are preventable. But again, the partisan divide shows that that is broken up into 85% of Democrats and only 56% of Republicans. Meanwhile, 60% of voters overall say that laws covering gun sales should be more strict. And 46% say that the U.S. would be safer with fewer guns. And when asked why the U.S. has so many more mass shootings than many other countries, a majority (54%) say it’s due to the greater availability of guns.

So why on Earth would 44% of Republicans say that mass shootings are an acceptable part of living in America? They are, in affect, advocating tolerance of domestic terrorism. Would they say the same thing about other crimes. Are rapes just a “something we have to accept”” What about child abuse? Bank robberies? Crashing jets into office towers?

Obviously Republicans are not so hostile to laws addressing those crimes. Nor do they object to laws prohibiting reproductive choice, or immigration, or banning books about race or slavery. So what’s the difference? Is it that they only want to avoid laws that regulate gun ownership?

The GOP has a perverse interpretation of “law and order.” They have a distinctly political criteria for when it should be observed. For instance, when it comes to Hillary Clinton, Republicans want to “lock her up,” despite the fact that they can’t identify a single law that she has broken. But the same Republicans want to set free the January 6th insurrectionists who violently stormed the Capitol to help Donald Trump overturn the 2020 presidential election.

RELATED: POLL: Half of Republicans are Psycho Trump Cultists Who Believe Capitol Riots Were ‘Peaceful’

While 44% of mass shooting tolerant Republicans is a significant chunk of the GOP, they are a miniscule portion of the American population. Registered Republicans are a mere 27% of the electorate. Which means that they are less than 13% of the U.S. population at large. And yet, due to the preposterous, and wholly undemocratic idiosyncrasies of American politics (i.e. the electoral College, senatorial representation, gerrymandered congressional districts), they have an oversized influence on what laws can be passed.

Unfortunately, that means that nothing substantive will change with regard to guns (or abortion, or racism, or voting rights, or fair taxation, or the environment, etc.) until that imbalance is corrected by either reforming the political system (including the Constitution), or electing more Democrats. Let’s hope that there is some progress on the latter this coming November.

Ted Cruz Babbles that if All Firearms in America Were Eliminated there Would Be More Murders

Nine years ago Bobby Jindal, the Republican governor of Louisiana, admonished his fellow Republicans to “stop insulting the intelligence of voters” and to “stop being ‘the stupid party.'” Instead of taking that uncharacteristically sound advice, they chose to hitch their wagon to the Ignoramus Supremo, Donald Trump.

Ted Cruz, Making Machine Gun Bacon

Today the Republican Party seems to be hell-bent on affirming its commitment to the crackpot constituency. They display a decided preference for baseless blather and flagrant lies, rather than facts and reality. And among the best representatives of that political strategy is Texas senator Ted Cruz.

On Tuesday Cruz visited with right-wing pundit Michael Knowles of the uber-conservative Daily Wire to discuss the gun reforms being proposed in the wake of the Uvalde massacre in Cruz’s home state. To no one’s surprise, Cruz conveyed his knee-jerk opposition to any of the common sense reforms that are so popular among the majority of the American people, and that his governor callously dismisses.

RELATED: Nicolle Wallace Fact Checks Texas Gov. Abbott: We Are Not Gonna Let Him Gaslight Anybody Today

In an effort to grab the Dumbest Member of Congress crown from Rep. Lauren Boebert, Cruz unleashed a ludicrous rant that is sure to put him in the running. Cruz said that…

“Taking away every firearm that Michael Knowles owns would not have stopped this psychopath from murdering children in Uvalde. And by they way, we see that in Chicago and New York and D.C. and California, where they have very strict gun control and the criminals still have guns and still carry out murders. If you could wave a magic wand and eliminate all firearms in America, there would be substantially more murders than there are today.”

Cruz is absolutely right. Taking guns from Mr. Knowles surely wouldn’t have stopped the Uvalde murderer. However, national laws restricting access to assault weapons, mandating background checks, banning high-capacity ammo magazines, implementing red flag rules, etc., might very well have had an impact. It is just stunningly stupid for Cruz to make that utterly disingenuous suggestion about taking “all” guns away from a single right-wing blowhard. And while no one is proposing banning all guns, if that were to happen, only a world-class moron would believe that it would result in more murders.

Cruz is also absolutely wrong about the examples he gave of places where stricter gun laws are not having any effect. If he were to have done the slightest bit of research he would have found that the states with the most lax regulations are where the most gun deaths occur. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the ten states with the highest per capita mortality rate due to guns are…

  1. Mississippi (28.6 per 100k)
  2. Louisiana (26.3)
  3. Wyoming (25.9)
  4. Missouri (23.9)
  5. Alabama (23.6)
  6. Alaska (23.5)
  7. New Mexico (22.7)
  8. Arkansas (22.6)
  9. South Carolina (22)
  10. Tennessee (21.3)

That list tells a story all by itself. For the record, California and New York, which have among the nation’s strictest gun laws, rank at #44 (8.5 per 100k) and #46 (5.3 per 100k), respectively. These stats include fatalities due to suicide, which should not be dismissed out of hand. However, when only murders are counted, the rankings are nearly identical. What’s more, 79% of murders in the U.S. in 2020 involved a firearm.

Clearly, as revealed in a recent study, there is a direct correlation in states with weaker gun laws having higher rates of gun deaths. Furthermore, the study found that the need for national regulations is necessary because “Despite strong gun laws, some states still feel the effects of being close to a state with more lax regulations.”

RELATED: Tucker Carlson Emasculates Ted Cruz and Lies that ‘Not a Lot Happened’ on January 6th

All of this information was available to Cruz when he shot off his mouth. But he was too preoccupied with establishing his idiocy to care about being correct. And that’s true for most of the Republicans addressing this (and almost any other) issue. It would be a ripe vein for comedy if it weren’t for all of the corpses that are piling in our schools, grocery stores, temples, etc.

Madison Cawthorn Threatens a ‘Dark MAGA’ Uprising After Losing His GOP Reelection Bid

Today’s Republican Party has become hopelessly immersed in the smarmy depths of the Cult of Trump. And there is no better indicator of just how deeply it has sunk than the response of one particular Donald Trump toady who lost his bid for reelection on Tuesday.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump, Fox News, QAnon

Madison Cawthorn made the unforgivable sin of casting a negative glow on his fellow Republicans when he exposed them as revelers in cocaine sex parties. Never mind his QAnon conspiracy theorizing, his efforts to undermine democracy, or his rabid racism. Cawthorn had to learn that maligning your GOP brethren is virtually the only thing that will get you cast out of the party.

RELATED: GOP Pipsqueak Madison Cawthorn Imagines that Rhodes Scholar Rachel Maddow is Afraid to Debate Him

However, after Cawthorn’s humiliating loss in the Republican primary, he demonstrated that he remains in the cold embrace of Trumpism with the release of a statement saying in part that…

“It’s time for the rise of the new right, it’s time for Dark MAGA to truly take command. We have an enemy to defeat, but we will never be able to defeat them until we defeat the cowardly and weak members of our own party. Their days are numbered. We are coming.”

That should send a shiver down your spine, or at least a hearty guffaw through your spinning head. Cawthorn is clearly adrift in the bowels of extremist crackpottery. He is among the irredeemable Deplorables of the ultra-right. And his reference to the cartoon villainy of “Dark MAGA” makes this a good time to reprise the following primer on the subject:

Dark MAGA? Is A Mash Up of Trump and QAnon Forming that is Even More Dangerous and Violent?

If you thought that the dystopian cult that sprung from Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) crusade was bad, you aint seen nothin’ yet. The messiah worship that is prevalent among the Trumpist wackos is continuing to evolve in the most foreboding fashion imaginable.

Newsweek is reporting on the emergence of an offshoot of the Trump Cult that has been anointed “Dark MAGA.” The article describes this budding Internet trend as…

“A small fringe of Donald Trump’s supporters [that] is calling for the former president to get back on the highest stage of U.S. politics with a vengeance with the motto: #DarkMAGA. More of a meme than a political slogan, Dark MAGA is a post-alt-right aesthetic that promotes an authoritarian version of Trump.”

RELATED: Trump Says ‘I Am the Chosen One’ After Tweeting that He’s ‘The Second Coming of God’

One has to wonder how “an authoritarian version of Trump” differs from the version that has been polluting American society for the past several years. Setting aside the obvious similarities, Newsweek goes on to paint a chilling, but accurate portrait of the Dark MAGA minions saying that…

“Dark MAGA supporters are calling for a ruthless, unforgiving version of Trump to take revenge on his political enemies at the 2024 election [and that] Many of the messages posted by Dark MAGA supporters incite violence and contain misogynistic and/or racist comments.”

Once again, how does that make these MAGAts in any way distinguishable from the standard variety of Trumpish pestilence? Is there some obscure Trump sect that is NOT ruthless, unforgiving, vengeful, and hateful? If so, they’re doing a darn good job of concealing their existence. And from their secret lair they still manage to promulgate the themes of MAGAism. Which are conspicuously similar to those of QAnon:

“According to [UNC Prof. Alice E.] Marwick, the result of this is a ‘heavy victim mentality’ among some Trump supporters. ‘The general messaging that the Democrats are evil, that children are under threat, that people may need to take extreme acts, even political violence to protect their children and their values, I think is consistent across the (far-right) spectrum,’ says Marwick.”

So the question as to the alleged dawning of Dark MAGA is this: Is it really any darker than what produced the January 6th insurrection? The promotion of white nationalism? The loss of 1,000,000+ Americans due to COVID? The treasonous embrace of murderous tyrants like Vladimir Putin? The contempt for the Constitution and the law? The spreading of racism, misogyny, and homophobia? The ceaseless lying? The undermining of democracy? The defiling of faith? The division of the American people? The assault on the free press and the media? And the march toward authoritarianism?

RELATED: Trump’s Cult of Republican Voters is Dwindling, but GOP Politicians and Press Remain Spellbound

MAGA is already a movement that has sought to sabotage virtually every institution that sustains a free society: government, law, media, arts, academia, science, religion, family, philanthropy, and economics. And the advent of Dark MAGA doesn’t alter that one bit. It is simply a new name for an old poison. It is nothing more than the already noxious manifestation of Dark Trump. And the antidote is still the glaring light of truth and a commitment to flushing Trumpism out of the body politic.

Donald Trump has been fomenting violence from the very beginning of his political career. And Cawthorn surely has a future in that Trumpian underworld where JFK Jr is still alive and will be Trump’s running mate in 2024. He may be angling for job at Newsmax or OAN. Either that or he’ll be moved into a serene rest home where his delusions can’t hurt anybody.

Either way, the future of Dark MAGA has its own unique path forward. Will it burn out in a year or two, or settle in with other conspiracy theories like the faked moon landing and the invasion of the Lizard people? Tune in next time. Same bat(shit) channel.

Democratic Truth-Teller on Fox News Righteously Rails on Republicans as the ‘Party of Hate’

If there is one thing that Fox News is good at, it’s managing their platform to make certain that only the most categorically conservative, ultra-MAGA propaganda actually makes it on the air. They do this by front-loading their bookings with reliably right-wing guests and cutting off the commentaries of their occasional lefties.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Bullshit Factory

However, every now and then they let their guard down and some inconvenient truths slip through their anti-reality radar. This rare occurrence took place on Thursday morning’s episode of the “Faulkner Focus” during a segment in which some recent political remarks by Elon Musk were discussed. Musk has been in the news lately as a result of his bid to acquire Twitter, which is rapidly going downhill.

RELATED: Elon Musk’s Bid for Twitter is in Big Trouble, and So is Trump’s TRUTH Social

In addition to making profoundly idiotic comments that put his Twitter bid and other businesses at risk, Musk thought this would be a good time to expose his political ignorance, dishonesty, and biases. So he tweeted that…

“In the past I voted Democrat, because they were (mostly) the kindness party. But they have become the party of division & hate, so I can no longer support them and will vote Republican.”

Comparing that comment to reality, we find that Musk actually donated heavily to Republicans. And notice the dates on these donations – January 4-8, 2021 – just before and after Donald Trump’s insurrection at the Capitol.

What’s more, Musk’s assertion that the Democrats “have become the party of division & hate” is utterly without foundation, and contrasts with all the available facts. Democrats are still the party that gave us healthcare, provides food and other necessities for the poor and middle class, protects the environment, fights for women and minorities, and defends democracy in the U.S. and around the world.

It is those principles that were featured in the brief remarks of Kristal Knight, a Democratic pundit who appeared on “The Faulkner Focus” on Fox News Thursday (video below). Responding to the wingnuts on the program, Knight said that…

“I think it’s very interesting that Elon Musk thinks that the Democratic Party is the party of hate when the Republican Party produced a failed insurrection on January 6th. This is also the party that supported the ‘Big Lie.’ We also see that Gregg Locke down in Tennessee has been preaching anti-Democratic rhetoric in the name of religion because he doesn’t like Democrats. We also have to remember the ‘great replacement’ theory, that has been spewed on this network alone – and the Buffalo shooter referenced it – these are all remnants of the Republican Party. That’s the party of hate.

So in about one minute Knight nailed some of the most flagrant flaws of the Republican Party. She even managed to slip in the fact that Fox News – via their Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson – has been America’s most prominent proponent of the “white replacement theory” that incited the mass shooting in Buffalo.

RELATED: White Replacement Theory Huckster Tucker Carlson Now Says He’s ‘Not Sure Exactly What It Is’

It’s unusual, and somewhat astonishing, that Knight managed to get through her commentary without being interrupted and cut off. Host Harris Faulkner and her other guest, conservative Charlie Hurt, must have been napping on the job, But they still wound up dismissing Knight’s criticisms and even condemned her for politicizing a massacre that was unambiguously political in its motivation and execution. Which is what they always do when they have no substantive response to the unvarnished truth – especially about themselves.

The Trump Effect: Ultra-MAGA PA Senate Candidate Refuses to Back GOP Nominee if She Loses

As the 2022 election cycle unfolds, Donald Trump continues to demonstrate his fetid influence on the Republican Party. His relentless fixation on nonexistent election fraud that he pretends cost him the 2020 election supersedes every other issue and is a prerequisite for receiving his toxic endorsement.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump Effect

In Pennsylvania the candidate that Trump endorsed for the Senate, Mehmet Oz, has not been especially popular with GOP voters in the state. He is currently struggling to hang on to a tiny lead in a three way primary race. Oz is running against another Trump-fluffing candidate, Dave McCormick, and the formerly fringe, now surging, Trump sycophant, and January 6th insurrectionist, Kathy Barnette.

Barnette was recently interviewed by Breitbart “News” and was asked a common and easily answered political question. And yet, she still managed to get the answer wrong:

Breitbart: If you do not win tomorrow, do you intend to support the Republican nominee whoever it is?
Barnette: I have no intentions of supporting globalists. I believe we have ran out of room on this runway for this spaceship. I believe we have very little rope left to just roll the dice and we’ll see how it all works out on the other end. […] I don’t think we have room to just vote for any old warm body with an R next to their name.

That’s great news for the likely Democratic candidate, John Fetterman. Particularly because the GOP’s Yellow Brick Road in Pennsylvania is currently leading toward Oz. If Barnette loses, the Trump cultists who support her could succumb to the poppy fields and sleep through the general election in November. And the Republican Party would have no one to blame for this but Trump.

RELATED: Trump Spokes-Shill Retweets Satirical Demand that ‘If We Can’t MAGA, Stay Home in November’

Trump has long demanded blind loyalty from his cult disciples. He insists that he is the only one who can fix America’s problems and that even other Republicans who aren’t unflinchingly faithful to him are cowards and/or RINOSs. He has even explicitly threatened the Party saying that if they don’t board the “Trump Train,” “Republicans will not be voting in ‘22 or ‘24.”

Trump has said that Barnette cannot win in the general election against Fetterman. But while Trump officially endorsed Oz, he also hedged his bet as he observed Barnette rising in the polls. He even praised her saying that if she won the primary “I will be behind her all the way.” Which is, surprisingly, more tolerant than Barnette herself who refuses to support her primary opponents if one of them should win.

Since Trump’s endorsement doesn’t seem to be pulling much weight in this race, Barnette’s supporters are more likely to follow her lead and sit out the general election. That’s a byproduct of Trump’s tunnel vision approach to party politics. It’s a “my way or the highway” strategy that is favored by aspiring authoritarian tyrants. And it is perfectly aligned with the Ultra-MAGA doctrine that President Biden aptly called the most extreme political organization that’s existed in recent American history.” So if Trump and his acolytes want to burn down the GOP, Democrats should just smile and say “please proceed.”

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes Delivers a Righteous Rant Blasting Fox News for Advocating Starving Babies

The most predictable consequence of any crisis that America faces is that Fox News will waste no time trying to exploit it for purely partisan political purposes. And it won’t matter to Fox whether there is any truth to their exploitative endeavors, or how much rancid racism is ingrained in it.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump, Immigrant, Child

The current shortage of baby formula in the U.S. is the latest example of how Fox manipulates the news to create division and fuel prejudice. Rather than explore ways to address the problem, or even to offer a rational debate on the subject, Fox News went directly to blaming President Biden and the innocent babies brought across the border by refugees fleeing poverty and violence.

RELATED: Biden Trashes Fox News Hack for ‘Garbage’ Question About Immigrant Children

The abhorrent positions expressed on Fox News reflect the bigotry against immigrants that Donald Trump has enabled and exacerbated. But Chris Hayes, host of “All In” on MSNBC, wasn’t taking it lightly. And he let loose with an impassioned monologue that effectively dismantled the noxious Fox News narrative (video below). Hayes began by saying that…

“We have reached the point where prominent figures in the conservative movement, including Republican politicians, office holders, and Fox News hosts, are calling for the United States to intentionally starve babies in its care. That is not hyperbole, and it’s not satire. It is the actual stated position now on the right.” […]

“Causes and solutions are not what the modern conservative movement really does when faced with a legitimate governing crisis. What they do is sniff around, like a dog after a carcass, to find the grossest way to demagogue the issue. And they have certainly found that here.”

Hayes then did something that is anathema to Fox News. He provided actual facts. He noted that there are less than a thousand infants in the custody of immigration authorities, and that they are required by law to feed them. That’s a miniscule percentage of the more than 3.7 million babies in America. So the argument that “illegal” babies (as Fox News disgustingly refers to them) are depriving American babies of formula is a deliberate and despicable lie. But that doesn’t stop Fox News from dispensing such hateful commentaries, and Hayes offers up a damning video compilation of them doing so.

Hayes also mocked the Fox News narrative that “The right solution to this formula crisis and shortage is to stop feeding the immigrant babies.” Obviously, if all of the formula provided to immigrant infants was redirected to Americans it wouldn’t make a dent in the problem. But, as previously noted, Fox News isn’t interested in solutions, just casting blame and manufacturing outrage. And while Fox News and heartless Republicans (yes, that’s redundant) are lying about the reasons for the formula shortage, the Biden administration is actually working to solve the problem.

In one especially loathsome part of the video that Hayes played, Fox hate monger Jesse Watters asked “Why are we feeding illegal babies ahead of American babies?” Just stop and think for moment about the repugnancy of that comment pitting one group of infants against another for life-saving sustenance. Hayes responded with apt revulsion saying, “Because they’re babies, you doofus!” He elaborated saying that…

“It would be a crime against humanity, and mass murder, to intentionally starve babies that you have in your custody, not to mention blatantly illegal. What is wrong with you?”

What is wrong with the cretins at Fox News is that they have no moral core. They are so fiercely fixated on their ultra-rightist political agenda that even the welfare of helpless infants is beyond their capacity to care. They would prefer to see migrant babies starve to death than to look realistically at the problem and seek collaborative solutions.

RELATED: Fox News Vigilantes, Lara Trump and ‘Judge’ Pirro, Issue Call to ‘Arm Up’ to Shoot Migrants

These allegedly “pro-life” Republicans and Fox News hacks would literally take the food from a baby’s mouth in order advance their crusade of cruelty. It’s what they have always done. They are just more open about it now.

When Biden Shows Compassion for Struggling Americans, Trump’s Spokes-Shill Calls Him a Sociopath

President Biden was in Chicago on Wednesday to give a speech at the 40th Annual Conference of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). It was speech that affirmed his agenda, and that of the Democratic Party, that seeks to restore some semblance of fairness on behalf of working class Americans.

Click here to Tweet this article

Joe Biden, Tweet

Biden’s speech covered many of the tangible benefits already realized as a result of passage of the American Rescue Plan. He spoke of creating “8.3 million jobs in my first 15 months in office – a record.” He acknowledged that “the unemployment rate now stands at 3.6 percent, the fastest decline in unemployment at the start of any President’s term on record.” And he pointed out that…

“Under my predecessor, the great MAGA king, the deficit increased every single year he was President. The first year of my presidency – the first year, I reduced the deficit – literally reduced the deficit by $350 billion. First year. And this year – and this year, we’re on track to cut the federal deficit by 1 trillion 500 billion dollars – the biggest decline in debt ever in American history.”

Biden also spoke about the “Ultra-MAGA” plan proposed by Republicans that “raises taxes on 75 million American families” [and] “puts Social Security, Medicare … and Medicaid on the chopping block every five years.”

Sadly, albeit predictably, the only thing that the “Ultra-MAGA” crowd was able to focus on were the buzzwords and Biden’s compassionate demeanor. Trump himself was elated that Biden referred to him as “the Great MAGA King” which only affirms his lust for tyrannical power. But nowhere was the “Biden Derangement Syndrome” more apparent, and abhorrent, than in the reactions by the Republican National Committee and Donald Trump’s spokes-shill, Liz Harrington.

RELATED: Trump’s Spokeswoman Keeps Committing the Same Violations on Twitter that Got Trump Banned

The RNC watched a clip from Biden’s speech, which they posted to Twitter believing that his emotional tone of voice somehow made him look bad. Harrington agreed and retweeted the clip with her warped opinion that Biden’s heartfelt feelings were akin to sociopathy. Biden said…

“Remember those long lines you’d see on the television and people lining up in all kinds of vehicles just to get a box of food in their trunk? How quickly we forget people were hurting. And what did the MAGA crowd want to do? Forget it. Forget it. God, this is the United States of America. The idea that people would have to wait in line an hour or hour and a half to get a box of food in their trunk – it’s just unbelievable.”

And the RNC and Harrington replied…

So Harrington thinks that showing concern for the hardships that people endure, and wanting to help them, is “sociopathic”? That explains a lot. It explains why Republicans are so determined to provide benefits for the wealthy and for greedy corporations. Their definitions are severely distorted in a manner that makes them think that helping ordinary people is an abomination, and therefore, catering to millionaires and billionaires is an act of charity. Thanks for clearing that up, Liz.

BIDEN: Americans Have a Choice Between Two Very Different Sets of Values: Ultra-MAGA or Sanity

For the past few months President Biden’s approval ratings have been mired in the low 40s. It is a situation that has frustrated him and his fellow Democrats as the midterm elections approach. If his polling doesn’t improve it could portend severe losses and the nightmare prospect of Republicans assuming control of both houses of Congress.

Joe Biden, Donald Trump

On Tuesday Biden addressed the issue that is paramount on the minds of most voters: the economy. He held a press conference where he spoke about the burdens faced by the American people due to inflation and other economic pressures (video below). His speech clearly laid out the differences between his agenda and that of the Republican Party. And one segment of the speech encapsulated the message that could turn around the prospects of Democrats if it were effectively communicated. Biden said that…

“Americans have a choice right now between two paths, reflecting two very different sets of values.

“My plan attacks inflation and grows the economy by lowering costs for working families, giving workers well-deserved raises, reducing the deficit by historic levels, and making big corporations and the very wealthiest Americans pay their fair share.

“The other path is the ultra-MAGA plan put forward by congressional Republicans to raise taxes on working families; lower the incomes of American workers; threaten the sacred programs Americans count on like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid; and give break after break to big corporations and billionaires — just like they did the last time they held power when their top priority was a reckless $2 trillion tax cut going — the majority of that going to the very wealthiest Americans, which ballooned the deficit, and not a penny of it was paid for.”

That’s it. Democrats are for “lowering costs for working families,” and “making big corporations and the very wealthiest Americans pay their fair share.” Republicans are for “the ultra-MAGA plan” that would lower incomes, threaten Social Security, and give breaks to the wealthy and big business.

If Democrats can drive home those points to the people, they will win handily in November. And Biden also noted that “Republicans have offered plenty of blame but not a single solution.” In fact, the GOP is not merely lacking solutions, they actively oppose them. They prefer to let the American people suffer so that they can use their hardship as a political weapon against Biden and the Democrats.

As an example of the two paths that Biden spoke of, a reporter asked the President about remarks made by Sen. Rick Scott of Florida. Scott said that…

“The most effective thing Joe Biden can do to solve the inflation crisis he created is resign. He’s the problem. […] Joe Biden is unwell. He’s unfit for office. He’s incoherent, incapacitated, and confused.”

And those are the sort of infantile insults that are the core of the GOP’s political strategy. Scott is also the chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. It’s his job to design the policy agenda for the party. And the plan that he announced recently would raise taxes on working families and sunset Social Security and Medicare.

In other words, Republicans are, as usual, promising to give every advantage to the rich, while giving only unfulfillable promises of trickling down to everyone else. It has never worked in the past, and it won’t work now. Democrats need to get that message out quickly and repeatedly for the next six months if they hope to prevail in November. And it wouldn’t hurt either if Congress and the Department of Justice moved more expeditiously on indicting Donald Trump.

Trump is Outraged Over the DHS Disinformation Board – Because He Spreads So Much of It

Last week the Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, announced to Congress that the DHS had established a new working group whose purpose is to monitor foreign sources of disinformation that pose a threat to national security. And within minutes Republicans and Fox News pundits blasted the Disinformation Governance Board (an admittedly discomforting name) as an Orwellian “Ministry of Truth” that would suppress free speech.

Trump Lies

The predictably alarmist and fact-free response by the GOP and their own Ministry of Propaganda (aka Fox News) deliberately misrepresented the mission of the new group. Their response was, in fact, disinformation, although not the sort that this group would be involved with. For the record, the group’s purpose was accurately described in a report by the Associated Press:

“The Department of Homeland Security is stepping up an effort to counter disinformation coming from Russia as well as misleading information that human smugglers circulate to target migrants hoping to travel to the U.S.-Mexico border. […] DHS said in its statement that the board will ‘protect privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties’ as part of its duties.”

Clearly the role of this operation is focused on foreign sources of disinformation and has explicitly ruled out any activities that would infringe on anyone’s civil liberties. Donald Trump, however and as always, was undeterred by reality, He was also afraid of being left out of any opportunity to grasp at media attention over manufactured crises. So Trump unleashed his own hysterically over-the-top criticism saying that…

“Just revealed that the Biden administration, on top of all the other horrible things happening to our Country, will be putting a longtime political operative in charge of censoring Free Speech. They don’t go after Facebook, Instagram, China’s TikTok, or any of the others that are so unhinged, corrupt, or Radical Left. Our Fake News Media refuses to cover the facts as our Country spirals into Hell!”

Trump’s complaint was posted on his TRUTH Social twitter clone and reposted by a cult follower on Twitter. Presumably because he knows that such disinformation will be eagerly embraced there. So he’s comfortable slandering Nina Jankowicz, who will be heading the Disinfo Board.

Jankowicz has a distinguished record as a disinformation expert. Her resume on Wikipedia notes that she “was a Fulbright fellow in Kyiv, working with the foreign ministry of Ukraine. She has also served as a disinformation fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center and as supervisor of the Russia and Belarus programs at the National Democratic Institute.”

White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki, was asked about Jankowicz in a decidedly loaded question by Fox News reporter Jacqui Heinrich. Psaki defended her noting that the Board she is heading was “a continuation of work that began at the Department of Homeland Security in 2020 under former President Trump.” She also reiterated that the Board has a mandate to protect privacy and civil rights.

None of that, however, will prevent the disinformation disseminated by right-wing propagandists and professional liars like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who tweeted “Now that the Biden regime has a Ministry of Truth, what’s next?” Or Tulsi Gabbard who tweeted that “Biden is just a front man,” asserting that Barack Obama is behind all of this. She was parroting Tucker Carlson who recently ranted about a speech Obama gave that warned against the perils of disinformation.

It’s ironic that Republicans are so zealously opposed to the Biden administration working to counter disinformation, and falsely labeling it censorship. They are the ones who are actually passing laws to ban books, prohibit protesting, and roll back civil liberties. And they, along with their media accomplices, are the ones spreading so much disinformation about everything from COVID, to Russia, to immigration, to the economy, etc.

Perhaps the real reason they are so worried about this Disinfo Board is that they know that without disinformation they really have nothing to say.
