Trump Goes SCHIZO on GOP Senator for Shooting Down His ‘Big Lie’ About Election Fraud

One thing you can say for Donald Trump is that he is persistent. Or more accurately, as stubborn as a constipated mule. It’s been more than year that Trump has been flinging his utterly baseless allegations of election fraud. And for all of that time – and through some sixty court cases – he has failed to produce a shred of evidence.

Donald Trump

What Trump has done is to rant hysterically that he is the victim (as always) of the Crime of the Century.” He has watched as even ultra-partisan “fraudits” proved the election was fairly conducted. And he has chickened out of his own challenge to debate the subject.

On Sunday Trump got another dose of dishonor. During an interview on ABC’s This Week, Republican Sen. Mike Rounds of South Dakota told George Stephanopoulos that Trump’s “Big Lie” about election fraud was a fallacy, saying that…

“As a part of our due diligence, we looked at over 60 different accusations made in multiple states. While there were some irregularities, there were none of the irregularities which would have risen to the point where they would have changed the vote outcome in a single state. The election was fair — as fair as we’ve seen. We simply did not win the election as Republicans for the presidency.”

As you might imagine, this triggered Trump into another infantile Twitter tirade. In a tweet posted by his (Twitter ban defying spokes-shill), Trump unleashed an extended harangue of hatred aimed at the GOP senator who, in Trump’s view, was committing sacrilege.

Trump seethed that Rounds “just went woke on the Fraudulent Presidential Election of 2020.” He complained that Rounds ignored the nonexistent election fraud despite what Trump falsely said was “massive evidence to the contrary” Trump whined that Rounds “found the election to be ok—just fine. Is he crazy or just stupid?” And that was just for starters.

Trump continued saying that “The only reason he did this is because he got my endorsement and easily won his state in 2020.” So Trump thinks that he’s responsible for a Republican winning in the blood red state of South Dakota. He went on to affirm the cult status of his “movement,” saying that it’s “only the weak who will break away.” And then Trump dropped the pièce de résistance: “I will never endorse this jerk again. Which probably has the senator from South Dakota shaking in his boots.

Trump unloaded on what he regards as the source of the problem, saying that It’s “The Radical Left Democrats and RINOS, like ‘Senator’ Mike Rounds [who are] destroy[ing] our Nation!” But he may need to broaden his attack to include Fox News host Brian Kilmeade. The ordinarily obsequious Kilmeade told Fox News’ Howard Kurtz (video below) that…

“In life, you have to learn to lose [and that] If you did, in fact, get screwed out of this election, put together an A-team list of lawyers – not the ones we witnessed – and show us the districts and show us how. I have not seen any of that.”

So Kilmeade is maligning not just Trump, but also Rudy Giuliani and the rest of Trump legal hacks. That, however, is not an indication that Kilmeade or Fox News has moderated their partisan biases. Kilmeade also said that…

“It defies logic to think a President could win by seven million votes who never left his basement, who couldn’t put together a clear speech, who never engaged in any challenging interview, who really struggled through every debate, could actually win this election.”

None of that is remotely consistent with reality. But it does show that Kilmeade is still fully on board with Trump’s election fraud lies, despite his admission that there is no evidence of it. That’s exactly how a cult works. Believe whatever you are told to believe and don’t ask questions. And anyone who strays from the orthodoxy is an enemy.

Rudy Giuliani and OAN Sued Over Election Fraud Lies. What About Trump and Fox News?

As we approach the new year, the soap opera featuring Donald Trump and his “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged” continues unabated into its second insufferable season. And the cast of characters are thrust into evermore melodramatic scenarios as their nefarious acts are revealed to weary viewers yearning for the climax when they are all marched into prison.

Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump

The latest wrinkle in this script was played out Thursday with the news that Trump’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, and his propaganda mouthpiece, One America News (OAN), are being sued by two of the victims of Trump’s election deceptions. According to Politico

“Two former Georgia election workers are suing Trump adviser Rudy Giuliani, One America News Network and several of the network’s top executives for pushing a series of debunked conspiracy theories about the workers’ role in the 2020 election that they said put them in physical danger and threatened their livelihoods.

“Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, her daughter, worked as poll workers counting ballots at State Farm Arena in Fulton County, Ga., during the November 2020 election. […] ‘As a result of their vital service, Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss have become the objects of vitriol, threats, and harassment,’ they said in Thursday’s complaint, filed in U.S. District Court in Washington.”

Freeman and Moss were falsely accused by right-wing hacks of stuffing fake ballots into the election counting process. However, a fact-check at the time thoroughly debunked the sloppy and dishonest claims. Nevertheless, as Politico noted…

“Trump and his allies remained obsessed with the state, and with the lies they have spread about the election workers in Georgia. Trump mentioned Freeman by name in the now-infamous call he had with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in early January, where he tried to convince the election official to overturn his loss in the state.”

Trump’s Twitter ban defying spokes-shill, Liz Harrington, is still disgorging these lies. After Raffensperger posted an article that touted the accuracy of Georgia’s elections, Harrington sarcastically replied that it was “like Philly saying they’re the safest city in the country with the lowest murder rate.” But it was nothing like that at all. It wasn’t Raffensperger who assessed Georgia’s election efficiency. It was the ultra-conservative Heritage Foundation. Also, Harrington even got the info about Philadelphia wrong. It isn’t even in the top ten of cities with the highest murder rate.

All of this raises the question as to why Trump hasn’t been named in the lawsuit by Freeman and Moss. He has been relentlessly spewing accusations against the poll workers with no basis whatsoever. And his Ministry of Disinformation (aka Fox News) has been backing him up the whole time. In fact, Fox News has already been named as a defendant in billion dollar lawsuits filed by voting systems companies Dominion and Smartmatic.

Trump and Fox News have done real harm to individuals, companies, and the nation, with their flagrant and self-serving campaign of deliberate falsehoods. And they must be held accountable for that. The victims of their malicious mendacity have every right to be compensated for the damage done. And as these cases wind their way through the justice system, hopefully all of the evildoers responsible will be made to pay up – civilly and criminally. And first among them should be Trump and Fox News.

Poor Crybaby Donald Trump is Moping Around Mar-a-Lago Because Nobody Wants to Play with Him

This is going to be a sad Holiday season for Donald Trump. His seditious playmates are being invited to congressional “parties” for show and tell about how he incited a violent insurrection in Washington, D.C. Of course, they may not show up because Trump is suing to assert an executive privilege that he doesn’t have because he isn’t the executive anymore. But that’s only a small part of Trump’s Xmas woes.

Donald Trump

Trump’s propaganda ministers at Fox News were revealed to have been begging him to call off his StormTrumpers on January 6th. His Sexual Predators Tour with Bill O’Reilly was a big flop. And the Attorney General of New York is investigating his criminal real estate syndicate.

In the midst of these and other misfortunes, Trump has attempted to assuage his narcissism by announcing a “news” conference on the anniversary of the January 6th insurrection. His desperate yearning for adoration is likely to result in disappoint when no one shows up. And the same is true for another one of his pathetic attention-seeking ploys. Trump recently challenged anyone to debate his “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged” and “stolen” from him.

When Trump first issued his debate challenge he thought there was a reasonable chance that respectable persons would volunteer to get in the mud with him as he propagated bogus claims of election fraud that have been debunked repeatedly, even by rabidly right-wing partisans. Shortly thereafter, Trump posted a triumphant message asserting that nobody had stepped up to accept his challenge. In fact, many people did, but always the coward, Trump chose to pretend that they didn’t exist. Now, a month later, Trump is again falsely claiming that there were no takers:

“Has it been at all noticed that I offered to debate anybody, on television or otherwise, about the RIGGED Presidential Election of 2020. This was a publicly stated challenge – I have been called a ‘ratings machine,’ and therefore would be good for television economics – which have not been doing so well lately. With all the bravado out there, I have not had one credible person willing to stand up and debate me in order to defend the CROOKED election.”

Has it been at all noticed that Trump is actually bragging that “not one credible person” is willing to muddy themselves by debating his flagrant lies? Why on Earth would they? He has been brutally snubbed but is too self-obsessed to realize it. Nevertheless, he thinks that his exalted presence will rescue the supposedly dying television industry. Trump went on to delusionally proclaim that he won virtually every state in last year’s election. And then whined…

“So, after one month, a very public offer to debate, I have no takers – not even the sleazebags you see on the January 6th Commission who speak with such fake reverence about the day.”

Despite Trump’s childish ravings, the members of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection would actually welcome a debate with Trump. All he has to do is agree to meet with them, make his case under oath, and answer a few questions. He would be free to present whatever evidence he has. Although he’s a had a year to do that – and more than sixty court cases – and has failed to do so. His appearance before the Committee would surely produce the TV ratings he is boasting about.

That said, no one should hold their breath waiting for Trump accept this debate, or even to acknowledge that the Committee has agreed to it. He will find a way to chicken out because that’s what he always does. And deep down he knows that he doesn’t have the cerebral capacity to engage in intellectual combat with a panel of fifth graders, much less the members of Congress.

Trump’s Republican Coup Supporters are Attacking Adam Schiff for Accurately Quoting Jim Jordan

Things have really sunken to unbelievable depths when right-wing dimwits have to blatantly fabricate pseudo-scandals in order to diminish political foes that they don’t have the intellect to engage honestly. It’s bad enough that Donald Trump and his Republican confederates are relentlessly peddling lies about the January 6th insurrection, but now they are also pulling utter garbage allegations from their asinine imaginations.

Donald Trump, Adam Schiff

The ultra-rightist Federalist website published a ludicrous alleged “exposé” of what they considered a shocking misrepresentation of a text sent to Trump’s former chief of staff, Mark Meadows. They introduced this abomination saying that…

“During a hearing Monday night on the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, Adam Schiff claimed to have proof that a member of Congress texted former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to instruct former Vice President Mike Pence to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.

“Not only did Schiff misrepresent the substance of the text message and its source, he even doctored original text messages, which were obtained and reviewed by The Federalist in their entirety.”

The charge of “doctoring” is laughably over the top. What the Federalist is so outraged by is that the quote Adam Schiff read was slightly condensed for relevance and clarity. Here is both the quote as Schiff presented it, followed by the unedited text:

Schiff’s quote: “On January 6, 2021, Vice President Mike Pence, as President of the Senate, should call out all electoral votes that he believes are unconstitutional as no electoral votes at all.”

The unedited text: “On January 6, 2021, Vice President Mike Pence, as President of the Senate, should call out all the electoral votes that he believes are unconstitutional as no electoral votes at all — in accordance with guidance from founding father Alexander Hamilton and judicial precedence”

Note that the only difference is that Schiff’s version didn’t include the part about Alexander Hamilton, and it placed a period at the end. None of that changed the context or meaning of the quote. Nevertheless, the Federalist went berserk with charges that Schiff “doctored” the quote with some nefarious intent. Quotes are often edited to be concise and to focus on the subject at hand. For instance, no one expects a quote from the Declaration of Independence to repeat the entire document when the discussion only concerns the part that says “all men are created equal.”

The original intent of the text was to pass along a legal opinion that would justify throwing out electoral votes for Joe Biden simply because Republicans didn’t want Biden to win. That message was conveyed in both versions of the quoted text. In Schiff’s remarks he affirmed that saying that…

“You can see why this is so critical to ask Mr. Meadows about. About a lawmaker suggesting that the former vice president simply throw out votes that he unilaterally deems unconstitutional in order to overturn a presidential election and subvert the will of the American people.”

Indeed, the purpose of the text was to advocate for overturning a valid election and installing Trump as an unelected, authoritarian dictator. While Schiff identified the author of the text as simply a “lawmaker,” the Federalist outed the author, revealing that it was Rep. Jim Jordan.

This triggered further outrage by the Federalist. They complained that Schiff attributed the text to a member of Congress, but that Jordan actually forwarded a text he received from the lawyer who wrote the anti-democratic legal opinion. In the view of the Federalist it was improper to attribute the text to the congressman. To the contrary, it was, in fact, an entirely proper attribution because Jordan was the person who sent it Meadows.

What’s important about this is that Jordan, a member of Congress, was advancing a dangerous and undemocratic legal theory, and passing it on to the president’s chief of staff. They were a part of the coup attempt that was being plotted by Trump and his traitorous accomplices.

However, since they couldn’t find anything wrong with the presentation of the evidence by Schiff, they built up a bizarre fantasy of some imaginary breach of ethics – and misplaced periods – and offered that as a distraction from the actual crimes committed by Trump and others in his cabal. Clearly they have given up trying to be rational, or even coherent.

Deranged Trump Declares that ‘I Developed the Vaccine’ in Lie-Riddled Twitter Tantrum

Donald Trump is, if nothing else, consistent. Although that isn’t a compliment considering that his consistency is related to his being a pathological liar. He distinguished himself as having told more than 30,000 lies during his single term in the White House.

Donald Trump, Insane, Straight Jacket

Since Trump lost reelection a year ago – a reality that he still isn’t able to grasp – he has continued disgorging flagrant falsehoods with unrivaled frequency and fury. Take for example this tweet in which Trump stuffed a surprising number of self-serving fallacies:

“America fell 340,000 jobs short of the very modest expectations set by economists. That’s because Joe Biden is a one trick pony, “Get the Vaccine.” But no one trusts this administration. I developed the vaccine when everyone said it wasn’t possible. Now without “Trump,” that’s their only solution. This administration is destroying America before our very eyes because there is no leadership. Besides my vaccine, this is the administration of no jobs and massive layoffs, high gas and energy prices, high crime, empty shelves, open borders, and a horrendous surrender and evacuation from Afghanistan. A lot of effort and money went into RIGGING the 2020 Presidential Election, only to destroy the Country. Was it worth it?”

If that isn’t a demonstration of someone tweaking on meth, then nothing is. Trump can’t seem to concentrate on a single subject for more than a nanosecond. There must be a medical diagnosis for this psychotic compulsion to enumerate every screwball thing that pops into his head. Never mind that he manages to get everything he’s ranting about wrong.

Trump begins with a criticism of President Biden’s record on job creation. But he immediately segues to the bizarre claim that “I developed the vaccine,” for the coronavirus. Does he also think he beat Neil Armstrong to the moon and wrote all of Shakespeare’s plays?

As for his commentary on jobs, he left out that “the unemployment rate fell sharply to 4.2% from 4.6%, even though the labor force participation rate increased for the month to 61.8%, its highest level since March 2020.” And that “Worker wages climbed for the month, rising 0.26% in November and 4.8% from a year ago.” In fact, as Biden noted on Friday, “in the first 10 full months of my administration, the economy has created 6 million jobs, a record for a new President.”

So Biden can hardly be called a “one trick pony.” And if there were only one trick, successfully reducing the harm caused by a deadly pandemic is a pretty good one. For the record, Trump left office with the worst jobs record in modern history.

The rest of Trump’s tweet was equally dishonest. Gas prices have only risen because the economy has rebounded so well. Crime is not higher relative to prior years. While there were product shortages due to global (not just American) supply chain issues, store shelves are once again full. The borders are not open. The “horrendous surrender” in Afghanistan was negotiated by Trump according to his own National Security Advisor. And Trump’s “Big Lie” about the election being “rigged” continues to be a dangerous fiction that undermines democracy.

The fact that Trump bothers to post tweets like this is further evidence of his emotional instability and his obsessive aspiration to return to a position of authoritarian power. He must not be allowed to succeed. American democracy and freedom depends on defeating Trump and Trumpism.

Chickensh!t Trump Dodges the Debate He Proposed After His Phony Challenge Was Accepted

On Sunday Donald Trump posted a tweet that purported to challenge journalists, politicians, or anyone else, to a public debate over his “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged” and “stolen” from him. Clearly the former reality TV game show host is still obsessed with his humiliating loss to President Joe Biden.

Donald Trump, Chicken

So Trump continues to whine petulantly while pressing his delusional assertions of voter fraud. Never mind that after over a year later he has still never been able to produce a shred of evidence of his charges. Had he done so he wouldn’t have lost more than sixty court cases that he filed, hoping in vain to overturn the election he lost decisively. Trump’s tweet (posted by his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill) boldly dared any comers to step forward to face off with him on the subject of “voter irregularities and fraud on a massive and determinative scale.” And he explicitly called out the “members of the highly partisan Unselect Committee of Democrats.”

Let’s set aside the fact that it would make about as much sense to debate massive voter fraud with Trump as it would to debate that the moon is comprised of green cheese. Both are preposterous premises that don’t deserve any serious consideration. And Trump would debate like a pigeon playing chess: He would just knocks all the pieces down, shit all over the board, then strut around like he won.

However, if Trump were really interested in engaging the members of the bipartisan House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection, he could simply volunteer to testify before it under oath. He could bring his alleged “evidence” with him and present it to the Committee on live television.

That access to a television audience is really the only thing that Trump is interested in. His tweet referenced it promising that “It will be a ratings bonanza for television!” Which is what he yearns for. Trump knows that his public profile has faded and he desperately wants to be relevant again.

However, Trump also knows that he can’t compete in a debate against anyone with functioning brain and an education beyond the third grade. Consequently, he followed up his Sunday tweet on Tuesday with one that said

“It’s really interesting, everybody wants me on television, I get the highest ratings by far, they need ratings to survive, and yet I put out a challenge to debate me about the massive election fraud, which took place in the 2020 Presidential Election, and there are no takers—think of it, zero takers for the so-called ‘ratings machine.’ The reason is, they know they can’t win. All I have to do is lay out the facts—they are irrefutable. I’ve supposedly won all my political debates, but this would be the easiest of them all! Swing state by swing state, they get decimated. This is the Hoax and the Scam and the Crime of the Century. Just remember, no takers!”

Poor baby. Trump seems to have lost whatever cognitive capacity he had left. First of all, he’s deluded himself into believing that everybody wants him on TV. But that’s only true if the program is live coverage of his trial and conviction for crimes against America. Even Fox News isn’t airing his cult rallies anymore.

Once again, Trump is babbling about “laying out the facts,” which he could do at any time if he actually had any. And he could do it without the reality TV trappings of a debate. As for his supposedly winning “all my political debates,” virtually every neutral observer who watched any of Trump’s debates scored them as embarrassing losses for Trump.

But the most ludicrous of his assertions in this tweet is his claim there are “zero takers” for his debate challenge. For sure, most politicians and journalists are not going to fall for this sham. Nor should they. They know it would be foolish to engage Trump’s lies and to feed his gargantuan ego. But there are takers, including Marc Elias, the attorney who argued and won most of the election cases that Trump or his minions filed. And there is Judd legum, a journalist who has covered Trump throughout his presidency. And there is also Hal Sparks, a noted political humorist. And there are many others who answered the call on Twitter.

The truth is that the Wimp of Mar-a-Lago never had any intention of showing up for the debate. Trump knew that he could just waive off whoever accepted as not meeting some unstated standard. Or he could do what he’s doing – just pretend that no one replied. Because Trump is a notorious coward who still avoids any interview that isn’t conducted by a bona fide Trump-fluffer. He confines himself to safe spaces like Fox News, where he fields softballs and is never challenged. And this fake debate offer was just the latest example of his spinelessness.

Snowflake Trump Issues Challenge for a Debate About His ‘Big Lie’ Promising ‘a Ratings Bonanza’

Among the most prominent character flaws of Donald Trump is his notorious cowardice. This is a big-talking bully who is spending his golden years hiding behind his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill to post messages that exalt himself, and lie and insult his multitude of perceived enemies. And he’s too scared to conduct an interview with anyone but his slobbering sycophants on Fox News, Newsmax, and other Trump-fluffing media hacks.

Donald Trump, Snowflakes

Consequently, it was surprising to see Trump’s tweet on Sunday wherein he issued a challenge for a public debate. Trump is still obsessed with his humiliating election loss more than a year ago. and he continues to press forward with his delusional assertions of voter fraud for which neither he, nor his cartoonish mouthpieces such as pillow magnate Mike Lindell, have ever been able to provide evidence. Undeterred by reality, Trump wrote that…

“The Fake News Media cannot stand the fact that so many people in our Country know the truth, that the 2020 Election was rigged and stolen, yet almost every article written contains the words the ‘Big Lie’ or ‘unsubstantiated facts,’ etc., always trying to demean the real results.”

There are good reasons that credible journalists use words like “Big Lie” and “unsubstantiated facts,” when referring to Trump’s fallacious election falsehoods. After a year, and more than sixty failed court challenges, Trump has produced nothing to support his bogus babbling. Continuing with his Twitter tirade, Trump said…

“I am willing to challenge the heads of the various papers or even far left politicians, who have perpetuated the Real Big Lie, which is voter irregularities and fraud on a massive and determinative scale. This includes members of the highly partisan Unselect Committee of Democrats who refuse to delve into what caused the January 6th protest—it was the Fake Election results!”

If Trump were truly interested in engaging the members of the bipartisan House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection, he could just volunteer to testify before it under oath. Don’t hold your breath. His characterization of the riots in Washington as a “protest” affirm his support for the insurrectionists, and for violent and anti-democratic means to achieve his authoritarian goals.

What’s more, Trump’s pretend invitation for a TV dialog implies that he thinks media executives and politicians would be willing to lower themselves to indulge his psychotic fantasies. That’s unlikely, and Trump knows it, as he reveals in his next sentence, saying that…

“While I am willing to do it, they will never agree because they cannot argue that facts in states including Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, New Hampshire, and others such as New Mexico, where the Democrat Secretary of State changed the voting laws without legislative approval just prior to the Election, making it virtually impossible for the Republican presidential candidate to win.”

Needless to say, there are no facts that support Trump’s charges. If there were, he would have produced them long ago. Even the rabidly biased Cyber Ninjas who conducted the Arizona “fraudit” eventually concluded that Joe Biden had legitimately won the election by an even wider margin than originally reported.

However, Trump is admitting that he knew his debate challenge wouldn’t be accepted. Nor should it be. That would just be humoring a mentally disabled schizoid and his flagrant fallacies. In fact, a coward like Trump would never have suggested a debate if he thought that anyone would agree to it. Remember when he ditched a Fox News debate because Megyn Kelly was the moderator? Instead he staged a phony “telethon” for veterans, but tried to keep the donations for himself. But Trump still wasn’t through. He closed his rant saying that…

“If anyone would like a public debate on the facts, not the fiction, please let me know. It will be a ratings bonanza for television!”

Here we have Trump daring “anyone” to take him up on his debate challenge for the only actual reason he might consider it: Television ratings. That’s the currency with which narcissists barter. Trump desperately wants to be relevant again, and a televised debate would indeed put him in front of a large audience.

But it would still be a waste of time because Trump wouldn’t – and couldn’t – serve up proof of his claims in such a forum. It would just be another opportunity for him to disgorge lies and insults while shouting down his opponent.

That said, it would be interesting from an entertainment perspective. So while no serious journalist or politician should sink to accepting this offer, perhaps someone like Michael Moore, or Al Franken, or Wanda Sykes, could consider it. After all, Trump did say “anyone.” Odds are Trump would slink away in fear as fast as he could waddle should he get such a response.

UPDATE: Trump is now dodging the debate he proposed.

Ted Cruz Gets Fact-Checked While Advancing Trump’s ‘Big Lie’ on Face the Nation

Some Republican Trump-fluffers seem to be impervious to shame. They persist in making preposterous statements that contrast profoundly with reality, even after their lies have been thoroughly debunked. And no one has a greater ability to cast off being publicly disgraced than Sen. Ted Cruz.

Ted Cruz, Donald Trump

Cruz, after all, is best known for abandoning his freezing constituents in Texas to take a vacation in sunny Cancun. More recently he was shot down in a blistering Twitter war with his congressional colleagues.

Undeterred, Cruz was interviewed Sunday on CBS’s Face the Nation by Margaret Brennan (video below). When the subject of Donald Trump inciting the January 6th insurrection in Washington, D.C. came up, Cruz sought to take a superficially rational stand against violence. “If you’re right-wing, left-wing, or have no ideology at all,” Cruz began, “If you commit an act of violence, if you assault a police officer, if you’re violent against anyone, you should be prosecuted and go to jail.”

True to form, Cruz is merely mouthing what he believes is a politically correct stance against violence. And his talking points were utterly disingenuous and marred by insinuating that the violence on that day could have been committed by either right or left wingers. The truth is that, while the halls of congress were still stained with blood, Cruz made a plea to sweep the sedition under the rug and hold nobody accountable saying “We must come together and put this anger and division behind us.”

That is not exactly an appeal for justice to be served to the insurrectionists who stormed Congress and threatened its members, as well as injuring more than 140 police officers. But Cruz was just getting started. He followed up his anti-violence lecture with yet another endorsement of Trump’s “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged.” Which led to the following exchange with Brennan.

Cruz: We right now have a substantial chunk of our country that has real doubts about the integrity of the election. And if we had had a credible electoral commission do an emergency audit, it would have enhanced faith in democracy. But instead Democrats and a lot of the press decided to just engage in incendiary rhetoric rather than acknowledge voter fraud is real, it is a problem, and the allegations of voter fraud needed to be examined on the merits.
Brennan: Senator there is no evidence of fraud that would have drawn the outcome of the election into doubt. You know that.

What Cruz purposefully fails to mention is that the “substantial chunk” of Trump chumps who have delusional “doubts about the integrity of the election,” was created by liars like Cruz himself, with an assist from Fox News. But Cruz went on to pat himself on the back for lobbying for a bipartisan electoral commission to study the wholly fictitious allegations of voter fraud. Maybe he would also like to form a commission to study the flatness of the Earth, because a substantial chunk of Americans believe in that too.

Cruz’s suggestion that an audit would have calmed everyone’s post-election jitters was already proven to be bogus. When the Arizona fraudit by the rabidly partisan Cyber Ninjas was released showing that Biden did indeed win the election, Trump had a hissy fit and his cult followers pretended it didn’t exist.

It was Trump who continued to spew the “incendiary rhetoric” that led to the January 6th insurrection. And contrary to his sudden interest in peace and bipartisan commissions, Cruz voted against the one that was proposed to study the Capitol Hill riots. So much for his claim that anyone who committed violence be prosecuted and jailed. That was just another falsehood on behalf of his Dear Leader.

SRSLY? Trump Threatens to Sue Pulitzers to Revoke Awards for Factual Russian Collusion Stories

Being the reigning heavyweight champion of the World of Whining, Donald Trump bears the burden of defending his title every day. And he wrestles with this responsibility as furiously as one would expect of a bona fide malignant narcissist. He wakes every morning with a commitment to feeding his insatiable ego.

Donald Trump

Among the most demanding tasks Trump faces is his obsession with the fallacy that he won the presidential election in 2016 all on his own. Never mind that he actually lost the popular vote by more than seven million votes. Trump is still fixated on the verified charges that Russia aided and abetted his campaign. Those charges were documented by exhaustively investigated stories in both the Washington Post and the New York times. Both papers won Pulitzer Awards for their reporting.

Recently Trump has been expressing his notoriously unhinged outrage at the Pulitzer Committee’s decision to honor the journalists whose work revealed how deeply the interests of Trump and his campaign were intertwined with those of Vladimir Putin’s Russia. Putin, when asked directly at a press conference with Trump standing next to him, admitted that he wanted Trump to win and helped him do so.

On Wednesday Trump sent a letter to the Pulitzer Committee demanding that they revoke the awards given to the Post and the Times. His request was triggered by reports that some of the material in the infamous Steele Dossier was provided by sources who were just indicted for lying to the FBI. Setting aside the fact that no one has been convicted, those indictments do not address nor refute the vast majority of what was reported in the Pulitzer winning articles. But that didn’t stop Trump from asserting a series of flagrant falsehoods in his letter to the Pulitzers. For instance, Trump’s letter began by stating that…

“…it has recently become apparent that the subject articles were based on incontrovertibly false information provided by dubious sources who were maliciously attempting to mislead the public and tarnish our client’s reputation.”

There’s a lot of wrong in that sentence. First of all, the articles were not “based on” the Steele Dossier. In fact, they were hardly mentioned. In the twenty articles that made up the series of awarded reporting, the Dossier was referenced in only two of them. And in both of those it was characterized as “unproved” and included Trump’s denials. One article noted that…

“…the [Steele] dossier produced last year alleged, among other things, that associates of Trump colluded with the Kremlin on cyberattacks on Democrats and that the Russians held compromising material about the Republican nominee. These and other explosive claims have not been verified, and they have been vigorously denied by Trump and his allies.”

The article also made clear the that Steele Dossier was not a significant source, saying that…

“U.S. officials took pains to stress that his report was not a U.S. government product and that it had not influenced their broader conclusions that the Russian government had hacked the emails of Democratic officials and released those emails with the intention of helping Trump win the presidency.”

The same is true for the other article that referenced the Dossier. It reported that…

“…the dossier had not been corroborated and that its contents had not influenced the intelligence community’s findings.”

Consequently, there are no grounds for defamation as alleged in Trump’s letter to the Pulitzers. For one thing, the Pulitzer Committee didn’t make any of the allegations that Trump is whining about. Those allegations were in the articles, and they were responsibly and factually reported. Nevertheless, Trump’s letter included his false assertion that the Pulitzers were somehow liable, and an impotent demand for redress, saying that…

“The Pulitzer Prize Board is actively advancing the false narrative contained therein and promoting defamatory statements against our client. […] it is hereby demanded that the Pulitzer Prize Board take immediate steps to strip the New York Times and The Washington Post of the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting. Pulitzer Prize Board’s failure to do so will result in prompt legal action being taken against it.”

Trump’s legal assault on the Pulitzer Committee is purely a function of his bruised ego and thirst for revenge against the media that he regards in Stalinist terms as “the enemy of the people.” It has no legal merit whatsoever, particularly since it is aimed at the awards committee, rather than the journalists. Trump is just exhibiting his raging jealously at never having received any of the awards that he craves, whether they be Pulitzers or Nobels or Emmys or the cover of Sports Illustrated’s annual swimsuit edition. [Editor’s Note: Apologies in advance for that visual] However, he does like making up phony awards and giving them to himself…

Crybaby Trump Throws Tantrum Over McConnell Plan to Nix Him from Biden Inauguration

Donald Trump has to regard the last couple of years as among the worst of his life. Not only was he impeached twice, an unprecedented achievement, but he also suffered a humiliating loss to Joe Biden for the presidency. Biden, you’ll recall, is the candidate that Trump maligned as a senile communist, but still couldn’t beat him.

Donald Trump, King

As it turns out, 2021 got off to a horrible start to Trump. In the very first week he incited a hostile insurrection in Washington, D.C., sending his StormTrumpers to assault the Capitol and threaten the lives of America’s representatives in Congress as they sought to carry out their constitutional duties.

It was a day that Trump cherished, describing it in the new book, Betrayal, by Jonathan Karl as “a very beautiful time with extremely loving and friendly people.” Indeed, it was the same “beautiful time” when fanatical Trump rioters broke through doors, shattered windows, and left more than 140 officers injured. They were the same “loving and friendly people” that Trump embraced rapturously, even as they were committing violent crimes against people and historically treasured property.

With another revelation from Karl’s book we now learn that Trump was not especially welcome at the inauguration for President Biden. Karl writes that Sen. Mitch McConnell had other plans for Trump:

“The then-Senate majority leader sought to have Trump disinvited from Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration on Jan. 20 […] According to Karl, McConnell ‘felt he could not give Trump another opportunity to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power.'”

Karl goes on to disclose that only after Trump heard about McConnell’s intentions did he fire off a tweet (the very last one before his Twitter account was permanently suspended) saying that he had decided not to attend.

Trump tweet

Naturally, Karl’s account of these events sent Trump into near hysterics. He rushed to post a tweet (via his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill) to refute Karl’s version of what took place. And of course, Trump reimagined it all in a way that put him in a more favorable, albeit fictional, light:

“From Election Day, November 3rd, the day I realized that the 2020 Presidential Election was rigged, I would never have agreed to go to Joe Biden’s Inauguration. This decision was mine, and mine alone. The old broken-down Crow, Mitch McConnell, had nothing to do with it. According to third-rate reporter Jonathan Karl of ABC Fake News, McConnell unsuccessfully tried getting a letter signed by others for me not to go. This was nothing I ever heard of and actually, if he ever did get it signed, I probably would have held my nose and gone. The Election was rigged, the facts are clear, and Mitch McConnell did nothing. He was probably too busy working on deals with China for his wife and family!”

So Trump is, in effect, validating “old broken-down Crow” McConnell’s concerns about Trump being likely to “disrupt the peaceful transfer of power.” He’s admitting that he didn’t regard the election as valid, so his presence could only serve to fuel more violence. And he further implied that, were he to go, it would only be to spite McConnell, not to respect the principles of democracy as enshrined in the Constitution.

Everything that Trump has done and said since then affirms his disgust for democracy and the rights of free people to govern themselves. To the contrary, Trump has been an avid advocate of the authoritarianism that he aspires to attain for himself. The American people better make sure that he fails – again.
