Tucker Carlson Mocks (and Lies About) the January 6th Committee Hearing that Featured Fox News

On Thursday the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection that Donald Trump incited held its eighth session. It was the second session that was broadcast in primetime. The primary focus of this hearing was to provide details about the 187 minutes that the former reality TV game show host did nothing while Congress was under attack by his StormTrumpers.

To be accurate, Trump didn’t actually do nothing. He was earnestly engaged in what is perhaps his favorite pastime, watching television. Specifically, he was watching Fox News for hours and cheering on his army of violent seditionists. He certainly wasn’t performing his duties as president. And the Committee masterfully documented Trump’s blatant and lethal negligence. As Rep. Kinzinger noted…

“Whatever your politics, whatever you think about the outcome of the election, we as Americans must all agree on this: Donald Trump’s conduct on January 6th was a supreme violation of his oath of office and a complete dereliction of his duty to our nation.[…] President Trump did not ‘fail’ to act during the 187 minutes between leaving the Ellipse and telling the mob to go home. He ‘chose’ not to act.”

That’s about as righteous a condemnation of Trump’s criminal misconduct as has been articulated since the hearings began. But Trump wasn’t the only subject of condemnation. Fox News was featured in much of the Committee’s presentation. Which is ironic considering that Fox News almost entirely ignored the hearings. Just as they did for the first primetime session, Fox refused to air it live. They are consumed with the fear that their dimwitted viewers might be exposed to some truthful information about their Dear Leader’s malfeasance.

Consequently, Fox banished the hearings to their low-rated business network, where it couldn’t do much harm to their ultra-MAGA narratives. However, there was a brief mention of the hearings by Fox’s Senior Propagandist, Tucker Carlson. Taking a break from delivering another of his deadly anti-vaccine rants, Carlson babbled that…

“If you’ve ever been in a TV control room, there’s a huge bank of monitors that shows everything that’s on TV. And one of our producers just said that on every other channel they’re playing some kind of January 6th hearing. January 6th? As if that’s the biggest thing going on in America right now.

Now why are they doing this? No one wants to watch it. You know what happened on January 6th. Some guy in Viking horns wandered around on mushrooms and made weird noises, and that was kind of it. It was an ‘insurrection,’ where none the insurrectionists had guns. But it makes the people covering it feel like they lived through Vietnam. More lifestyle liberal narcissism. That’s really the key to everything.”

Not surprisingly, Carlson’s critique was littered with lies. First of all, he’s pretending that his producer had to inform him that the January 6th hearing was in progress. He obviously knew that and was prepared with his pre-packaged and cartoonish put-downs. Secondly, Carlson also knows that the hearings are a major news story because prior broadcasts have garnered huge ratings and their impact has registered in polling.

So Carlson’s assertion that “No one wants to watch it,” is pure bullpucky. As is his belittling of the rioters as harmless characters who “wandered around on mushrooms and made weird noises.” Carlson left out that they broke windows, battered down doors, terrorized members of Congress and their staff, and injured more than 140 law enforcement officers, including five who died.

Carlson also lied about the insurrectionists not having guns. Numerous reports document that the rioters were armed at the Capitol and had more weapons stashed nearby. Trump even admitted that he was aware that they were armed and didn’t care because “they aren’t here to hurt me.”

Sean Hannity also briefly covered the hearing, just long enough to call it “a one-sided political smear,” and to blame Democrats for the riots. But if the hearings are one-sided, it’s because almost all of the witnesses giving their accounts under oath are Republicans who worked for Trump. What’s more, Hannity had no evidence to support his contention that Democrats were to blame for the riots that were populated solely by Trump supporters.

It’s too bad that Fox News declined to let their audience see any of the hearings. Because they were referenced several times. Most notably when Committee Vice-Chair Liz Cheney said that…

“We know from employees this TV was tuned to Fox News all afternoon. Here you can see Fox News on the TV showing coverage of the joint session that was airing that day at 1:25. Other witnesses confirm that president Trump was in the dining room with the TV on for more than two and a half hours.”

So although Trump could watch Fox News while the insurrection was in progress, Fox’s viewers couldn’t be told that fact. Not that they would have watched if it were shown. While the ratings for MSNBC, CNN, and the broadcast networks all spiked sharply during the hearings, When Fox aired them during the day they actually lost viewers. Their audience simply can’t handle the truth. It’s a condition that Fox has nurtured in them over many years of cult indoctrination.

Putin Puppet Tucker Carlson: Gas Prices are ‘More Significant’ than the Lives of Ukrainians

Two and a half years ago Donald Trump was impeached – the first time – for having unlawfully attempted to extort Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and coerce him into trying to dig up dirt on Joe Biden. From that day forward Fox News has sought to malign and undermine Ukraine, even as they have been subjected to the genocidal aggression of Vladimir Putin’s increasingly imperialistic Russia.

Leading the Fox News attack on Ukraine has been their Senior Putin Apologist, Tucker Carlson. He has been a relentlessly reverential spokesperson for Putin’s aspirations of world domination. Carlson and his Fox colleagues, have so closely aligned the network with Russian interests that it is essentially serving as the U.S. bureau of the Kremlin’s Ministry of Disinformation.

On Saturday Carlson was the keynote speaker at the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa. The conference is sponsored by an organization founded by radical right-wing evangelist, James Dobson, with a mission to “inspire Christ-like leadership in the home, in the church, and in government.” So naturally, the event featured the hypocrisy and blasphemy that is emblematic of Trumpism.

Carlson was an inspired choice for keynote speaker, and his audience surely wasn’t disappointed by his rancid rhetoric. Intent on fomenting division and political animus, Carlson made a point of lambasting Democrats with deliberately dishonest characterizations. For instance, Carlson lied that it’s “absolutely true” that Democrats…

“…are promoting the idea that your family is worthless compared to loyalty to your employer and a political party. That is the sickest message I can possibly imagine. Totalitarian message, by the way. They don’t want the competition.”

That is indeed a sick message. But it wasn’t difficult for Carlson to invent it in his perverse imagination. It’s a common tactic by Carlson to describe some loathsome behavior that is resolutely Republican and falsely attribute it Democrats. But no Democrat has ever hinted at such an agenda. To the contrary, it is Republicans who exalt corporations by giving them preferential tax benefits, exempting them from regulations designed to save lives, and even referring to them as “people” who are entitled to the same rights as human citizens.

However, Carlson was just getting started. He also found a way to slip in some pro-Russian propaganda into his harangue, saying that…

“I’m not a Putin defender, despite what you may have heard. I don’t really care one way or the other because he’s not my president. He doesn’t preside over my country. And what he does in Ukraine – I think historically significant, certainly significant to Ukrainians – is not more significant to me than what gas costs. In fact, it’s not even in the same universe.”

First of all, Carlson is the epitome of a Putin defender because of what you have heard. He has repeatedly used his primetime Fox News platform to venerate the murderous Russian dictator. Here are just a few examples of his unabashed admiration and unequivocal support for Putin’s terrorism:

Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, in an interview on the Kremlin sponsored RT (Russian Television) cable channel, lavished praise on Fox News as a singular voice for Russia’s interests, saying that “only Fox News is trying to present some alternative point of view.” Alternative meaning anti-American.

EU Bans Russian Propaganda TV Networks, While Fox News Still Peddles Putin’s Lies in the US
“Why do I care about what’s going on in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia? And why shouldn’t I root for Russia, because I am.”

And there you have it. Carlson – in his own words, on his own program – has explicitly declared his support for Russia and Putin. So why would Carlson leap to Russia’s defense in this debate? Well, remember that Russia eagerly helped the Trump campaign in 2016 and 2020. Carlson and Fox News surely appreciate that. Ukraine, on the other hand, declined to help Trump steal another election after they were threatened by Trump with the loss of military aid if they didn’t submit to his demands.

For his trouble, the Kremlin distributed a memo ordering Russian media to “feature Tucker Carlson in their coverage of the #Ukraine war ‘as much as possible,’” because he “sharply criticizes the actions of the United States [and] NATO.” Consequently, clips from Carlson’s program are replayed almost nightly on Russian-state TV. Such patriotism as this could not be ignored by Stephen Colbert:

Tucker Carlson of Fox News Blames Mass Shootings on – Women? (Also Drugs, Porn, Video Games)

The horrific incidents of mass shootings have reached epidemic proportions in the United States. Even patriotic events such as 4th of July parades in sleepy upscale suburbs are not immune. But despite the lives lost and families shattered by this senseless violence, the Republican Party, and their enablers on Fox News, still refuse to take action against the tools of the terrorist’s trade – guns.

How can this problem be solved when Republican representatives in Congress can’t even acknowledge that guns are the primary cause of the body count in these massacres? Instead, they struggle to change the subject or avoid it entirely. Donald Trump hasn’t even mentioned the July 4th shooting. But he did obsess about himself and his legal tribulations.

While the recent gun reform bill that just passed makes some incremental progress, it left out critical measures such as banning military-style weapons, implementing universal background checks, manufacturer liability, and age limit restrictions on purchases. And even in that compromised form the vast majority of GOP senators voted against it.

It is not a coincidence that the cowardice of the ultra-conservative Republican Party is reflective of the propaganda disseminated by right-wing media, particularly Fox News. Their editorial stance on the issue has been consistently pro-gun. And with each new mass shooting they reiterate that position and seek to shift the blame to other alleged causes, despite the absence of evidence to support their deflection.

Chief among the NRA-theists is Fox’s Senior Misogynist, Tucker Carlson. On Tuesday night he delivered a monologue that went to great lengths to absolve guns of any liability for the death toll (video below). Instead, he blamed drugs, schools, porn, video games, and – women!?! That’s right, the notorious woman-hating, ball-tanner, is now asserting that mass shootings are the fault of the “mostly women” authorities in the lives of the shooters…

“Look at Robert ‘Bobby’ Crimo. Would you sell a gun to that guy? Does he seem like a nutcase? Of course he does. So why didn’t anyone raise an alarm? Well, maybe because he didn’t stand out. Maybe because there are a lot of young men in America who suddenly look and act a lot like this guy. That’s not an attack; it’s just true. Like Crimo they inhabit a solitary fantasy world of social media, porn, and video games. They’re high on government endorsed weed. Smoke some more it’s good for you.

First of all, Carlson is making the argument that mass shooters can be recognized by the way they look. And even though gun fetishists like Carlson generally object to any restrictions on purchasing firearms, he now thinks that looks would be an acceptable criteria. After all, would you sell a gun to this guy (See Carlson’s photo above)?

But Carlson was just getting started. He went on to describe shooters as waifs for whom it is “guaranteed” “their lives will not be better than their parents’,” and that they have been deliberately drugged by evil school counselors. Which makes you wonder what kinds of schools little Tucker attended. And judging by the following remarks, you also have to wonder about the women in his life.

“They are numbed by the endless psychotropic drugs that are handed out at every school in the country by crackpots posing as counselors. […] And yet the authorities in their lives – mostly women – never stop lecturing them about their so-called privilege. ‘You’re male, you’re privileged.'”

Carlson concluded by reiterating that “A lot of young men in America are going nuts. Are you surprised?” This is a common, femophobic fixation for Carlson who has disgorged elaborate harangues asserting that there is some sort of clandestine government plot to deplete the testosterone of American males. He even produced an entire crocumentary on the subject – “The End of Men.” – that played out more like a soft-core gay porn paean to the supremacy of patriarchy.

Carlson is not alone on Fox News as a propagator of these preposterous hypotheses. Laura Ingraham also sought to deflect from guns by asking her viewers to look into the eyes of “some of the mass killers who have reportedly been regular pot users.” After which, she has the gall to accuse the media of “fear mongering on fake issues.”

Every reputable expert on gun violence has debunked the conspiracy kooks who point their bony fingers at drugs, porn, and video games as the causes of mass shootings. Every other developed country on the planet has all of those influences, but not anything close to the frequency and fatality of the gun violence that occurs in the U.S.

The efforts to cast blame on those behaviors is just the Republican’s way of protecting their benefactors in the NRA and the gun industry. It is also their method of keeping their dimwitted constituents scared and submissive. But Carlson’s addition of women to the list of culprits is both perverse and dangerous. And it says much more about his own insecurities and impotence than it does about the women he fears and hates. After all, he is the same deviant sicko who laments the declining sex appeal of cartoon M&Ms…

Ted Cruz Lies to Fox News that Democrats are ‘Encouraging Violence’ After Roe v Wade Ruling

In the wake of the appalling assault on the Constitution by the Supreme Court ruling that overturned Roe vs Wade, Republicans and their mouthpieces in right-wing media immediately set out to malign pro-choice advocates and protesters. It was a coordinated strategy to deflect from the fact that the vast majority of the American people oppose the decision and are committed to correcting the historic and unprecedented legal blunder.

Fox News, Bullshit Factory

Naturally, Fox News was at the forefront of this propaganda crusade to slander peaceful protesters. And part of their plan included bringing on Sen. Ted Cruz to fabricate a phony chronicle of events. Cruz, of course, complied by spinning this utterly fictional account…

“I think there’s a real risk of violence. We’ve seen multiple Democrats now, including Maxine Waters, before that Chuck Schumer, before that the Biden White House, effectively encouraging violence. Chuck Schumer stood on the steps of the Supreme Court and threatened Justice Kavanaugh and Justice Gorsuch by name.”

There was no truth to anything Cruz was saying. Certainly no Democrats were doing anything that could be characterized as “encouraging violence.” Cruz’s comments were all out of context references from months or years ago. For instance, Chuck Schumer, reacting to a Court hearing on an abortion case, said in March of 2020 that Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh “have released the whirlwind and will pay the price.” That was more than two years ago. And Schumer even acknowledged at the time that “I shouldn’t have used the words I did, but in no way was I making a threat. […] My point was there would be political consequences.”

That concession was something that you would never hear from the Republicans fomenting violence, such as what occurred during the insurrection on January 6, 2021. But Cruz dredged up this old remark specifically to defame the pro-choice movement.

Cruz was joined in this campaign by Tucker Carlson who, following the Roe decision, said on his program that “Today you saw several elected members of Congress call for insurrection.” No, actually, no one saw that. But Carlson’s canard is reminiscent of his preposterous assertion that Stephen Colbert had engaged in insurrection when some of his staff performed a comedy routine in Washington.

Since the ruling was announced, the manufactured narrative from the ultra-MAGA politicians and pundits that pro-choice activists are engaging in an “insurrection” has just become more intense and bizarre. It’s a deliberately dishonest strategy contrived to both malign peaceful protesters and to trivialize the term that describes Donald Trump’s attempted coup on January 6th. And the GOP is stridently going even farther down the rabid hole. What follows are some examples of the wholly dishonest ravings of a desperate band of bullshitters:

Tucker Carlson Smears Companies that Cover Abortion Travel Costs as Being ‘Against Families’

The Supreme Court’s ruling that overturned Roe vs Wade is an unprecedented decision that, for the first time ever, removed a Constitutional right that had been affirmed numerous times for more than fifty years. And the judges responsible for the decision were put on the court by Donald Trump, who lost the popular vote twice and tried to overthrow the U.S. government.

The American people are rarely more united on an issue than they are about preserving the reproductive choice rights provided by Roe vs Wade. Nevertheless, the Republican, anti-democratic forces in Washington managed to subvert the people’s will in order to impose a religious standard on the nation, in place of a legal one.

On Friday night Carlson launched a new, and patently offensive line of attack. He lashed out at private companies seeking to provide benefits to help employees get the healthcare they need when dealing with pregnancy and family planning. In states where abortion is now – or will soon be – illegal, these benefits will reimburse employees for costs to travel to states where their health needs can be met. And despite conservatives ordinarily supporting free market positions, Carlson is hypocritically attacking companies for trying to do what they believe is best for their employees and their business. He raged that…

“It’s obvious why it’s so important to America’s corporations, almost all of whom immediately weighed in to say, ‘We’ll fly you to get an abortion at the state of your choice.’ Why? Well, of course, employees without families are loyal to the company and, of course, it’s much cheaper to pay for an abortion than it is to pay for maternity leave, or an extra name on the insurance policy. So, it’s all about the money for corporate America. It always is. Families are bad for big corporations, therefore they’re against families.”

That is glaringly wrong for so many reasons, Let’s begin with the fact that it isn’t necessarily cheaper to insure an employee who seeks an abortion. For one thing, Carlson is assuming that everyone who gets an abortion doesn’t already have a family. That’s false. It’s also flagrantly false to suggest that employees without families – by which he means children – are more loyal to their employer. As a frozen food empire trust fund baby, whose father worked for the State Department, Carlson has never had a job that wasn’t handed to him by virtue of his wealth and elite status. Where do you suppose his loyalties lie?

More importantly, Carlson is making the repulsive argument that companies make employment decisions based on what it might cost to provide an employee with healthcare. By his own perverse logic, companies would (or should?) discriminate against an applicant who is diabetic, or has congenital heart defects, or suffers any other health challenges. Even those with families.

Carlson’s conclusion that corporations are “against families,” is not only exceedingly stupid, it ignores the fact that most corporate executives have families. He is also ignoring the broad diversity of the companies that offer the travel cost benefits. They include Meta (Facebook), Dick’s Sporting Goods, Amazon, Levi Strauss, JPMorgan Chase, Starbucks, and Tesla. Among media companies offering this benefit are Disney (ABC News), Warner Bros. Discovery (CNN), and Comcast (NBC News and MSNBC).

Conspicuously absent from that list is Fox News. Either they do not offer the benefit, or they don’t want anyone to know that they do and declined to respond to inquiries. So they are either callously indifferent to their employees’ well being, or they’re raging hypocrites. And it wouldn’t surprise anyone if it turns out to be both. After all, Fox News – and especially Tucker Carlson – have demonstrated that they don’t care about the health of their employees, or their viewers. Carlson recently endorsed nicotine addiction. No, really! And when it comes to COVID, Carlson was its biggest advocate. Those aren’t exactly pro-health, or pro-employee policies.

Tucker Carlson Boldly Endorses Nicotine Addiction, Because Without It You’re Fat and Passive

For most his tenure at Fox News, Tucker Carlson has proven himself to be an immanent threat to the health and well being of the American people. His seething white nationalism, his support for domestic terrorists, and his relentless promulgation of lies and propaganda have set him apart from even his conspiracy theory confederates at Fox News.

Carlson’s flagrant distortions of reality are frequently dangerous in direct ways. He has been a staunch opponent of COVID vaccines, likely resulting in severe illness and death for many of his dimwitted viewers who were foolish enough to follow his ignorant advice. And he has embraced Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s brand of totalitarianism.

On Wednesday night Carlson found a brand new way to make Americans sicker. He literally came out in favor of smoking cigarettes and/or vaping, a popular and lethal pastime for teenagers. Carlson’s rant was triggered by the news that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is cracking down on nicotine delivery products like those marketed (to children) by Juul. Carlson, of course, has a knee-jerk opposition to anything done by the Biden administration, no matter how unarguably beneficial. So Carlson unleashed the following idiotic harangue…

“Yesterday the FDA announced it’s planning to remove virtually all nicotine from cigarettes. Now nicotine is not the thing that gives you cancer. Nicotine is the thing – it’s addictive, but it also increases mental acuity. But they’ve taken that out. According to the Wall Street Journal, the agency will also ban Juul e-cigarettes. Now what happens when you get off nicotine? Well, your testosterone levels plummet, and you gain weight. Both of which the administration is for because you become more passive and easier to control.”

Where to start? How about with the fact that nicotine is not merely addictive, its addictive properties are artificially enhanced in cigarettes by tobacco companies to make their victims (aka customers) more physically dependent on them. Secondly, to the extent that nicotine affects mental acuity, it acts as a stimulant that has essentially the same temporary affect as cocaine or methamphetamines. Is Carlson in favor of those as well?

Carlson then asserts that when nicotine is stopped it results in a decline in testosterone. That’s false. In fact, some studies show that nicotine can actually “depress testosterone levels“ and are “another main cause of erectile dysfunction.” Furthermore, “smokers, compared to nonsmokers, had greater amounts of age-related brain volume loss.” Which would explain Sean Hannity…

Carlson also makes the preposterous allegation that the Biden administration wants people to be obese and to have lower levels of testosterone, because that would make them “more passive and easier to control.” WHAT?

Who wants to tell Carlson that nine of the top ten most obese states in the U.S. are in the blood red South? Does that mean that Republicans have manipulated America’s fattest populations in order to control them? Not surprisingly, the most populous – and bluest – states in the country (New York, California, Massachusetts) are among the ten least obese.

Carlson has been on a testosterone binge lately. He recently aired a segment on how distraught he is that the cartoon M&Ms were no longer “sexy” to him. He also produced a crocumentary that he called “The End of Men.,” which he described saying that “One of the biggest stories in our lifetimes is the total collapse of testosterone levels in American men,” and that it was “changing the way people are at the most fundamental level.”

True to form, almost everything in his film was blatantly false. Carlson’s fixation on testosterone is just the latest example of his hatred for women and his innate fear of inadequacy. And he is deftly injecting it into his sweaty obsession with lambasting all things Biden. The result being an advocacy of a deadly and addictive narcotic that is causing untold suffering among American adults and children. And this is something that Fox News, and its executive management, thinks is acceptable television?

Judge Rules that Fox News Acted With ‘Actual Malice’ By Spreading Trump’s Election Fraud Lies

The hearings of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection incited by Donald Trump have been effectively exposing the role of Trump and his confederates in politics and the press. It is now an inescapable fact that they knew that their attempts to undermine democracy and overturn the election were illegal and they just didn’t care.

On Tuesday a judge confirmed that Fox News was among those who knowingly spread lies and disinformation regarding the 2020 presidential election. The ruling came in a lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems who allege that Fox News (and Newsmax and One America News Network) defamed them with blatantly false reports of election fraud. The ruling rejected Fox’s motion to dismiss the case, and explicitly cited the network’s owners as justification to allow the suit to proceed. According to Bloomberg News…

“Fox News’s parent company can be sued by a voting-machine maker because Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch may have acted with “actual malice” in directing the network to broadcast conspiracy theories alleging the 2020 presidential election was rigged against Donald Trump. […]

“Dominion cited in its suit a report that Rupert Murdoch spoke with Trump a few days after the election ‘and informed him that he had lost,’ the judge noted.”

The judge further noted that…

“‘These allegations support a reasonable inference that Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch either knew Dominion had not manipulated the election or at least recklessly disregarded the truth when they allegedly caused Fox News to propagate its claims about Dominion.””

The evidence that Fox News purposefully maligned Dominion is overwhelming and irrefutable. The flagrant falsehoods promulgated on Fox include bizarre allegations that Dominion was created by deceased Venezuelan leader, Hugo Chavez; that their machines were rigged to switch votes from Trump to Biden; that Dominion was run by a George Soros associate; that Jewish space lasers operated by China altered the voter database.

Okay, that last one was not alleged in the lawsuit, but has been alleged by other Trump cult disciples. And the fact that it fits right in with the other real allegations says something all by itself.

In another defamation lawsuit filed by voting software company, Smartmatic, actual malice – exemplified by Tucker Carlson – was also cited when Fox’s motion to dismiss that case was rejected.

There’s a reason that these ruling keep going against Fox News. The network’s deliberate distortions of the truth have been a core part of their propaganda crusade to advance the “Big Lie” that Trump has been whining about for more than a year and a half. He has lost more than sixty cases challenging the election results, primarily because he has never produced a shred of evidence to support his charges.

Unfortunately, the efforts by Trump, aided and abetted by Fox News, have led to numerous episodes of violence, including the January 6th insurrection on Capitol Hill. And even that was predicted by a judge in a related case…

Stephen Colbert Hysterically Mocks Tucker Carlson’s ‘Comedy’ on the Arrest of His Staff in D.C.

Last week Senior Fox News Blow Hard, Tucker Carlson, went completely off the rails with a ludicrous segment accusing Stephen Colbert of having “committed insurrection” at the Capitol when members of his staff were detained during production of comedy routine featuring Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog. Carlson bizarrely asserted that it was “exactly like what happened on January 6th.”

Sure. It was “exactly” like the deadly insurrection by hundreds of hostile thugs incited by Donald Trump to break through barricades, injure more than 140 police officers, five of whom died, shatter windows and bust through locked doors, threaten to kill or hang government officials, and cause $30 million dollars in damages.

On Monday night Colbert responded to the preposterous ravings of Carlson with both humor and insight. In his opening monologue, Colbert was noticeably shocked by the pure idiocy of Carlson’s take on the incident. He allusively referred to Carlson’s latest harangue saying that…

“… a couple of the TV people claimed that my puppet squad had “committed insurrection” at the U.S. Capitol building. First of all…What? Second of all…Huh? Third of all, they weren’t in the Capitol building. fourth of all – and I am shocked that I have to explain the difference – Insurrection involves the lawful actions of Congress and howling for the blood of elected leaders all to prevent the peaceful transfer of power. This was first degree puppetry. This was hijinks with intent to goof.” […]

“Drawing any equivalence between rioters storming the Capitol to prevent the counting of electoral ballots, and a cigar-chomping toy dog is shameful and a grotesque insult to the memory of everyone who died. And it obscenely trivializes the service and courage of the Capitol Police showed on that terrible day. But who knows. Maybe there was a vast conspiracy to overthrow the United States with a rubber Rottweiler.”

For his part, Carlson spent the entire A-block of his show blasting Colbert and his “seven saboteurs” who Carlson said had “breach[ed] the Capitol grounds” on “a hunt for sitting members of Congress.” And if you think he was kidding – because Carlson’s delivery always seems too asinine to take seriously – he followed up those allegations by affirming that “That happened, ladies and gentlemen!” That, in fact, did not happen .

Carlson went on to call the Colbert comedy routine “a meticulously planned coup … under the direct control of an extremist called Stephen Colbert.” He claimed that Colbert’s team “trashed the place, committing violence against our democracy.” Which is an absurd distortion of reality. Then he mocked the trauma experienced by journalists and members of Congress who were terrorized by the hundreds of StormTrumpers who were marauding through the Capitol calling for their deaths.

Was Carlson joking? It hardly matters. So much of what he said was uttered with a straight face and followed by a statement of affirmation. If it was satire it was executed so badly that its alleged humor was totally lost. And if it were his perverse attempt at comedy, it was a nauseatingly callous display that belittled the serious physical and emotional injuries suffered by the victims of Trump’s seditionists on January 6th.

But then, does anyone expect anything from Carlson other than malicious dishonesty and crackpot conspiracy theories? His whole raison d’etre is to spread ultra-rightist propaganda and divide the American people with flagrant lies. Pretty much exactly what his Dear Leader Trump is best known for. After all, he was actually defended in a defamation lawsuit by Fox News lawyers who told the court that “no reasonable person” would believe anything he said.

Watch Tucker Carlson’s Insane Accusation that Stephen Colbert’s Staff ‘Committed Insurrection’

And on Friday night he was so incensed by late breaking news that he interrupted his regularly scheduled schizophonic schtick to report on a matter that would surely alter the course of humanity.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Bullshit Factory

As usual for Fox “News,” they were regurgitating a story that they picked up other from credible news organizations. Fox doesn’t actually do journalism. The story that titillated Tucker on this occasion was one that has international consequences. ABC News reported that several staffers for Stephen Colbert’s Late Show on CBS had been arrested for being in a congressional office building without proper authorization:

“In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS said the production team was at the Capitol Wednesday and Thursday to record a comedy segment featuring Triumph [the Insult Comic Dog].

“‘Their interviews at the Capitol were authorized and pre-arranged through Congressional aides of the members interviewed,’ the network said. ‘After leaving the members’ offices on their last interview of the day, the production team stayed to film stand-ups and other final comedy elements in the halls when they were detained by Capitol Police.'”

So this was essentially a case of having stayed beyond the period of time that had been previously approved. But to Tucker Carlson it was the same sort of domestic terrorism that was committed by Donald Trump’s shock troops on January 6, 2021. Carlson raged that…

“This is almost beyond belief, but just before this show aired we learned that last night producers for Stephen Colbert’s show on CBS committed insurrection at the United States Capitol. Adam Schiff, the congressman from California who spent the last year and a half telling you that unauthorized violations of Capitol space are a coup – Adam Schiff illegally gave producers from CBS access to the Capitol.

Then the group, which includes the show’s senior producer, director, comedian and writer, remained in the Longworth House office building after hours. And the point of them being there was for them to harass sitting members of congress. […] It’s exactly like what happened on January 6th, So, we’ll take a close look at what the punishments are.””

WOW! that is one heck of a deranged outburst, even for Carlson who is known for them. For him to equate what these seven comedy professionals were doing with the deadly insurrection by hundreds of hostile thugs incited by Trump is spectacularly preposterous. Colbert’s crew did not break through barricades and, in the process, injure more than 140 police officers, five of whom died. They did not shatter windows or bust through locked doors. They never threatened to kill or hang anyone. They didn’t vandalize the premises causing $30 million dollars in damages.

Carlson’s tirade also accused Rep. Adam Schiff of “illegally” giving producers from CBS access to the Capitol. That’s a lie. Carlson claimed that the purpose of the visit was “to harass sitting members of congress.” That, too, is a lie. The only thing that Carlson accomplished with his histrionics is to reveal that he doesn’t know the difference between a violent insurrection and a harmless overstay of a permitted visit by a few funny people.

Then again, it is never Carlson’s intent to provide honest accounts of anything. He is always focused on spreading disinformation that advances his ultra-rightist agenda. And this harangue is no exception. It’s his way of belittling the actual insurrection on January 6th, which he has previously tried to pass off as a pleasant tourist outing where “not a lot happened.” He works overtime to disinform his already dimwitted viewers with blatant falsehoods covering a wide array of subjects. For example…

There’s much more where that came from. But listing every asinine thing Carlson has said would break the Internet. It will be fun to see what Colbert has to say about this on Monday.

Fox News Commits to Keeping Their Viewers Ignorant By Refusing to Air the January 6th Hearings

This week the bipartisan House Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection incited by Donald Trump will hold public hearings. They are expected to reveal evidence that documents the seditious attempt by Trump and his comrades to undermine democracy by preventing Congress from certifying the election of President Biden.

Donald Trump Insurrection

The riots on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021, were the result of Trump’s relentless lying that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged” and “stolen” from him. Five law enforcements officers died, and more than 140 were injured in what Trump and most Republicans say was a “peaceful” protest.

The House Committee spent ten months probing the insurrection and its causes, reviewing millions of documents and conducting more than a thousand interviews. Now they are prepared to make the case to the American people that Trump and his cronies were actively staging a coup to illegally seize power and install Trump as America’s first dictator.

The hearings are going to be aired live on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, and MSNBC. Notably missing from that list is Fox News. Because they are afraid of the truth and devoted to keeping their viewers ignorant, Fox News has decided not air one of the most historically significant congressional hearings of modern times. Instead, Fox will stick with their regular primetime Trump-fluffing consisting of Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham, and Sean Hannity.

This is more confirmation that Fox is not – and never has been – a news network. They were created to advance an ultra-conservative agenda and to promote Republican politics. And while the actual news organizations are informing the public, Fox News will be serving their master, Donald Trump, with counterprogramming that is nothing more than right-wing propaganda. It’s what Trump ordered his minions to do, and they are obediently complying.

Fox’s decision to blackout the hearings is not merely due to their blatant biases. It is also self-protection. That’s because their primetime hosts are more than just mouthpieces for Trump. They are also accomplices in his criminal activities. Consequently, they could be featured in the hearings when testimony is given about what took place as the insurrection was in progress. For instance, they were texting Trump during assault:

Hannity wrote: Can he make a statement, ask people to leave the Capitol?
Kilmeade wrote: Please, get him on TV. Destroying everything you have accomplished.
Ingraham wrote: Mark, the president needs to tell people in the Capitol to go home. This is hurting all of us. He is destroying his legacy.
Even Donald Trump Jr wrote: He’s got to condemn this shit ASAP. The Capitol Police tweet is not enough.

Never mind that within hours of these texts, the Foxies had retreated to their standard positions fawning over and covering for Trump. As for Carlson, no one has lied more about the insurrection than he has. He even produced the “Patriot Purge” crocumentary wherein he charged that the whole sordid affair was a “false flag” operation orchestrated by the FBI.

So Fox News has several dishonest and self-serving reasons for suppressing the news rather than reporting it. First, they don’t want to air anything that so clearly contradicts what they’ve been lying about for a year and a half. Secondly, they are devoted to keeping their glassy-eyed audience as ignorant and artificially outraged as possible. And finally, they aren’t about to give airtime to hearings that will reveal their own participation in Trump’s lawless scheme.

The result will be an expansion of the gap between the viewers of Fox News and the rest of the reality-based American people. And that could exacerbate rising tensions and lead to more violence on the part of the StormTrumpers. Which is exactly what Trump wants. And Fox News is, once again, aiding and abetting his treasonous aspirations.
