Herr Trump Is Trying to Quash the Netflix Deal to Buy Warner Bros as a Favor to His Oligarch Pals

The boots of Donald Trump – swollen cankles, bone spurred feet and all – are once again stomping down on matters where they don’t belong. They have already trampled on everything from the Kennedy Center, to the Caribbean shores of Venezuela, to American cities with Democratic leaders that he regards as “the enemy within.”

Donald Trump and Media - ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, FOX

The latest victim of Trump’s tromping is the pending merger of media giants Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) and Netflix. The WBD board has already accepted the bid from Netflix that it deemed superior to the one by the Paramount-Skydance conglomerate. But unsatisfied with not having having his tiny thumb pressed firmly into the pie, Trump is openly lobbying against Netflix. That wouldn’t be because his friends David and Larry Ellison are the owners of Paramount and have promised to make make changes that Trump wants, would it?

Setting aside the fact that it is both legally and ethically improper for Trump to interfere with the business affairs of these companies in a free market economy, Trump’s favoritism is transparently biased and aimed at benefitting himself and his wealthy comrades. On Sunday he posted a comment on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, that said simply “Stop the Netflix Cultural Takeover.” The post linked to an article disparaging the pending merger on the ultra right-wing website, One America News Network (OAN), by disgraced attorney John M. Pierce. The article said that…

“Netflix’s bid to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) is not simply another Hollywood deal. It is an attempt to consolidate unprecedented cultural power inside one of America’s most ideologically aggressive corporations — a company that has repeatedly used its global platform to elevate progressive narratives while suppressing dissenting viewpoints.”

That is, to use a technical term, bullshit! There is no evidence that Netflix has any political ideology, much less one that is “aggressive” and is “suppressing dissenting viewpoints.” That’s an opinion that even Trump disagrees with. Trump recently met with Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos in the Oval Office and came away saying that Sarandos is “fantastic” and that “I have a lot of respect for him. He is a great person.”

The article’s main argument against the Netflix/WBD merger is that it would would weaken competition. That’s true, But it’s just as true – if not worse – if WBD were to merge with Paramount. The article’s position that WBD accepted the Netflix bid due to some ideological bias is ridiculous. First of all because the Netflix bid is markedly better. Secondly because the real bias would be if the Trump regime forced Netflix to accept the bid from Paramount, whose owners are devoted Trump fluffers. Then the article claimed that…

“Handing this machine control over Warner’s franchises and future output would allow one company to rewrite characters, retell history, redefine social norms, and control which ideas reach audiences. […] It is time to say no to a woke media monopoly before the damage becomes impossible to reverse.”

For the record, Paramount would be the “machine” that could “control which ideas reach audiences.” It already owns Paramount Pictures, Paramount Television, CBS Entertainment, CBS News, Showtime, MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, TV Land, BET, Country Music Television, and 46 owned-and-operated TV stations across the country. Netflix is primarily a program producer and distributor. It doesn’t own any TV stations or, more importantly and unlike Paramount, any news networks.

Paramount has already demonstrated that it will bend the knee to Trump in its CBS News reporting. They recently censored CBS’ 60 Minutes, nixing a segment on the El Salvador gulag that Trump has been sending migrants to. They hired a right-wing blogger, Bari Weiss, to run their nightly news program with a decidedly more conservative bent. And they also canceled Stephen Colbert’s top rated late night comedy program. Just think what they would do if they acquired CNN, which is currently owned by Warner Bros and would be part of the merger with Paramount, but not with Netflix.

This would be a good time to examine the character of the OAN article’s author, John M. Pierce. He is an disreputable attorney with a long history of supporting Trump. He has been accused of making “threats against Department of Justice personnel.” And in September of 2021 NPR reported that…

“Pierce, a controversial lawyer with pro-Trump politics, has taken on more defendants related to the [January 6th] Capitol breach than any other attorney.”

[And that] “Court records from his divorce show that he has dealt with substance abuse and mental health problems for several years. His ex-wife has previously obtained two domestic violence restraining orders against him.”

That’s the caliber of author recruited by OAN to write this article attacking Netflix. And it’s why the article is so blatantly biased and counterfactual. There are some good reasons to oppose a WBD merger with either Netflix or Paramount. Corporate consolidation often harms both consumers and employees. But in this case the author leans heavily to one side, which invalidates his arguments entirely.

In the final analysis, Paramount would be far worse than Netflix as a partner for Warner Bros. It would cater to the whims of Trump, and deliver more conservative programming in both the entertainment and news divisions. And Trump’s cheerleading for Paramount is further proof of his bias and ignorance of proper conduct as president.

Generally the Foxies are pushing ultra conservative propaganda in support of the right-wing’s vile and exclusionary political agenda. But they also disseminate vicious and insulting cultural dogma aimed at maligning Democrats and liberals and anyone they regard as “woke.” And perhaps the worse purveyor of that rancid bullshittery is Jesse Watters.

On Thursday’s episode of Fox’s “The Five.” Watters had something he needed to get off his chest about women. And true to form, it was unflinchingly contemptuous and chock full of hate. He led it off as if it were a criticism of men, saying that…

“Here’s the problem with guys: They take women too seriously. You don’t really listen to these women. They will say things. Just goes in one ear and out the other. We are toxic? Here is a drink, babe. That’s done. They love that. They are beautiful little creatures. We just have to adore them and shower them with love and attention. That is really all they want…You love attention and drinks.”

You have to wonder how the “little creatures” at the table with him – and those watching at home – felt about that description. He believes that women are brain dead wind-up dolls that can be – and should be – manipulated by flattery and alcohol. Which shouldn’t surprise anyone who remembers that Watters slashed the tires of a much younger former coworker to get her take a ride home with him. He later left his wife and children to marry her.

It is particularly offensive for Watters to express these despicable thoughts at time when a couple of profoundly troubling stories are in the news that involve women. There are the files of child sex trafficker, Jeffrey Epstein, that Watters has defended Trump for refusing to release. And there is the ICE agent who murdered a young mother, that Watters believes deserved to be killed, despite the video evidence that she posed no threat.

The views that Watters expressed are consistent with those of many other men at Fox News. Their former president, Roger Ailes, was fired for sexual harassment. So was their biggest star, Bill O’Reilly. Even Trump’s current Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, had an inappropriate relationship with a younger Fox co-worker, which eventually broke up his marriage to his second wife.

It’s fair to say that a pattern is apparent. And that pattern fits the example made by Trump, the Pussy-Grabber-In-Chief. It seems like sexual misconduct is a prerequisite to work for either Trump or Fox News. It would be nice if the women there – particularly those on the same show as Watters – would speak out against that gross behavior. Because he surely doesn’t deserve the platform he’s exploiting to disparage women while he’s spewing partisan political nonsense.

Sean Hannity of Fox News Makes a Darn Good Case Against Trump and His Racist White Nationalism

It was just a matter of time. Donald Trump has been expressing his virulent brand of bigotry for decades. His blatant prejudice is one of the most compelling factors for his popularity among his MAGA disciples who share his inbred hatred for people of color and non-European immigrants. So no one should be surprised that his media mouthpieces are parroting his reprehensible rhetoric.

Trump has long disparaged immigrants who come from what he calls “shithole” countries. And this week he has made a point of maligning American citizens who migrated from Somali, calling them all criminals and pledging to have them them thrown out of the country. In fact, he says he is terminating all immigration from third world countries and reviewing the status of those currently in the U.S.

On Monday’s episode of his radio program, Sean Hannity of Fox News weighed in on this subject. Although he intended to praise Dear Leader Trump, the actual content of his monologue was ironically critical. Hannity began by saying that…

“I’m not going to get in the gutter with some people and what they’re saying. The left is insane enough. But when I hear and listen to some people that claim to be MAGA and Trump supporters and the things that they utter are so insane.”

Well then. That’s actually a pretty rational assessment of the MAGA community. You have to wonder what took Hannity so long to notice it. However, as he continued he seemed to lose the plot. In a series of comments intended to exalt Trump, Hannity actually provided opportunities to expose the vile racism that has been such a prominent part of his character, or lack thereof. What follows are Hannity’s observations with relevant annotations.

“If you hear somebody that’s racist, that’s probably a good indication that they’re not worth your time.”
In Trump’s mind if you are a Black critic of Trump you are automatically a low IQ racist. That includes Kamala, Harris, Jasmine Crockett, Maxine Waters, Don Lemon, LeBron James, etc.

“If somebody’s a white nationalist, they’re probably not worth your time.”
Remember Trump’s support for “the very fine people on both sides” of the white nationalist protest in Charlottesville?

“If they praise Adolf Hitler, they’re probably not somebody that’s worth your time.”
Trump famously kept a book of Hitler’s speeches by his bedside, and he told members of his White House staff that “I need the kind of generals that Hitler had.”

“If they have a virulent anti-Semitic hatred, they’re probably not worth listening to.”
During the New York City mayoral race, Trump whined that “Any Jewish person that votes for Zohran Mamdani…is a stupid person!!!”

Hannity went on to complain about the MAGA minions who “have bizarre conspiracy theories” or are just “pure character assassins.” That doesn’t narrow it down very much. It’s pretty much all of them. And that’s particularly true with regard to his MAGA-sty himself, Donald Trump.

However, while Hannity appears to be on the verge of actually getting it, don’t expect too much of him. He’s a fully indoctrinated MAGA-tist and isn’t likely to see the light. He doesn’t even know that he’s shining the light on Trump’s racism. Or, for that matter, his own.

A CALL TO ACTION: Trump White House Launches a ‘Media Bias Offender Tipline’ – Let’s Use It

Last week Trump’s White House website debuted a “Media Bias” page, claiming that it would be keeping track of what Trump regards as “false, misleading, or biased” news reports. Of course, what Trump regards as “biased” is actually anything that is less than effusively flattering. As a result, the page consists solely of the very same media outlets that Trump regularly bashes as “fake news” simply because they dare to report honestly about Trump warts and…well, more warts.

This week Trump is expanding on his anti-free-press theme with the addition of a brand new “Media Bias Offender Tipline.” It was announced with a “A CALL TO ACTION” and an opportunity to “Submit ‘Media Bias’ Tips” online.

The announcement describes the mission of the page as “to combat the baseless lies, purposely omitted context, and outright left-wing lunacy of the Fake News Media,” and asserts that “That’s why the White House is calling on everyday Americans to support the truth and hold the Fake News accountable.” Elaborating, the page says that…

“So-called ‘journalists’ have made it impossible to identify every false or misleading story, which is why help from the American people is essential. The days of the Fake News Media controlling the narrative with lies, fake anonymous sources, and willful bias are over.”

Notice that the only alleged lies that the page is supposedly combatting are from the “outright left-wing lunacy.” And there is no mention of the fact that it’s Trump’s rampant dishonesty that makes identifying all of the false stories impossible. Even worse, Trump is declaring that the days of “willful bias are over,” as he cheers for the government to assume the role of “controlling the narrative with lies.” Which, to be fair, is something that Trump’s regime has proven to be pretty good at.

Trump’s Media Bias Tipline page provides a short form for his MAGA cult disciples to report any left-wing lunacy that they come across so that they can “HELP EXPOSE THE WORST OF THE WORST” And it warns, “Don’t let them continue to spread lies. Fill out the form below.”

Well, that seems like pretty good advice. Perhaps we should all bookmark that form and use it to report all of the media bias that we encounter. (Feel free to use a fake email address to avoid getting spammed — or surveilled). There is plenty of it from outlets like Newsmax and One America News, and far too often from the corporate media networks as well. Of course, there’s also Fox News, which is the only “news” enterprise that has paid out 3/4 of a billion dollars to settle a defamation lawsuit for having repeatedly lied on Trump’s behalf.

So you all know what to do. And as Trump’s page says, “Don’t let them continue to spread lies.”

The Trump White House Website Now Has a Page to Attack Media that Tells the Truth About Him

Presidents throughout history have had some rocky relationships with the free press. It’s a natural conflict given the media’s mission to report truthfully about everything that a political leader does and says, and the leader’s determination to always present a positive image.

However, no president has had as hostile an attitude toward the media as Donald Trump, who frequently refers to them in Stalinist terms as “the enemy of the people.” Trump’s animus toward honest journalism is evident in his knee-jerk and meritless lawsuits, and his infantile insults. Just this week Trump has maligned reporters as “creeps,” “stupid,” and “ugly,” just because they dared to tell the truth about him.

In a desperate response to the consistently bad press that Trump gets and deserves, he had his White House social media flunkies develop and post a new web page on the White House website. It is ostensibly a page intended to track what Trump regards as media bias. Although what it is in reality is just another platform to exhibit his hatred for the free press.

The White House web page currently features as its top alleged exposé, under the headline “MEDIA OFFENDER OF THE WEEK,” a story about the recent video that several members of Congress – all veterans of the military or intelligence community – who reminded American soldiers that the Uniform Code of Military Justice requires them not to obey an illegal order.

However, the video posted on Trump’s page is an edited version that inserts a text stamp declaring that the patriots in the video are “SEDITIOUS” because “The president has never given an illegal order.” Which is patently false. Trump has issued numerous orders that have been deemed illegal by federal courts and judges, including some who were appointed by Trump.

The web page then goes on to what it calls its “Offender Hall of Shame: A Record of the Media’s False and Misleading Stories Flagged by The White House.” In this section it simply complains about stories by news organizations that Trump has already demeaned for failing to be unflinchingly adoring and supportive. They include the Washington Post, CBS News, CNN, and MSNBC (MS NOW).

There is also a section on “Repeat Offenders” with 21 news sources listed. But it doesn’t include the Trump-fluffers at Newsmax, One America News, or Fox News. For the record, Fox is the only “news” enterprise that has paid out 3/4 of a billion dollars to settle a defamation lawsuit for having lied on behalf of Trump.

It is profoundly improper for the White House to post a web page that does nothing but attack media outlets that Trump disagrees with. It is the sort of thing that only occurs in authoritarian regimes like Russia and North Korea. But then, since those are the countries and leaders that Trump most admires and seeks to emulate, this shouldn’t surprise anybody.

HUH? Fox News Praises Trump for Being 80 Years Old and Severely Sleep Deprived

The endless flow of gushing adoration for Donald Trump by his devotees at his Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News, is one of the best indicators of an emerging authoritarian state wherein the aspiring dictator exerts total control over a compliant press corps.

Trump in Bed, Eating, Sad

However, the degree of Trump-fluffing that comes out of Fox News puts the state media mavens in North Korea and Russia to shame. The Foxies really should keep handkerchiefs handy to wipe the drool that’s dripping from their chins.

This was particularly notable in a segment on “The Ingraham Angle” Friday night (video below) when fill-in host Lisa Boothe raved about Trump’s allegedly abundant energy. Which is so far removed from reality that even the New York Times, that has been sucking up to Trump of late, has noticed Drowsy Don’s struggle to stay awake.

Boothe referenced the article in the Times to lead into her lazy opinion that Trump’s dynamism far exceeds the comparative lethargy that she ascribed to President Biden. As for Trump, she says that…

“The New York Times is claiming that he slowed down and is showing signs of fatigue.”

[Quoting NYT]: ‘Americans see Mr. Trump less than they used to. He has fewer public events on his schedule and he is traveling much less than he did by this point during his first year in office. Although he is taking more foreign trips. He also keeps a shorter public schedule than he used to. Most of his public appearances fall between noon and 5:00 PM on average.’.

“Well, the man is almost 80 but he’s also a machine. I mean, he barely sleeps, he works around the clock and he constantly talks to the press.

It was nice of Boothe to give the Fox News viewers a taste of the article that conducted a deep analysis of Trump’s physical and mental decline. However, her pro-Trump conclusion was hysterical in its portrayal of him as an elderly superhuman who doesn’t require sleep. To the contrary, lack of sleep is not a sign of strength. It is a debilitating condition that diminishes mental acuity, produces hallucinations, and causes anxiety and psychoses. Which explains quite a bit of Trump’s abnormal and dangerous behavior.

Furthermore, if Trump is suffering from insomnia, it would be interesting to know what’s causing it. Some common causes are anxiety, stress, depression, and pharmaceutical medications such as Adderall. Lack of sleep doesn’t improve anyone’s ability to function. There’s a reason that sleep deprivation is often used as a form of torture. Missing these obvious caveats to her compliments, Boothe went on to malign Biden, lying that…

“Meanwhile Biden always slept, worked sometimes, and never talked to the press unless they were asking about ice cream flavors. But some people are still living in opposite world when it comes to these two presidents.”

[Video of Dr. Vin Gupta on the MeidasTouch Network]: ‘President Biden was active on weekends. Especially riding his bike in Rehoboth Beach. No one denies that President Biden, when he had his moments of being 80, 82, whatever it was. In this case the White House is not even willing to even acknowledge the president is showing obvious signs of age-related cognitive decline…He might take trips overseas in Air Force One. That doesn’t substitute for the lack of physical activity…There’s a reason to be worried based on that public performance.’

“Well, Biden also fell off that stationary bike.”

Once again, it was nice of Boothe to give the Fox News viewers a taste of Dr. Gupta’s analysis of the comparative vigor of Trump and Biden. Although she ended it with the lie that Biden fell from a stationary bike. Actually the standard bike that he had been riding fell over after he came to stop.

Boothe’s snarky aside does nothing to refute the substance of Dr. Gupta’s remarks. Also, she edited the full video of Dr. Gupta, leaving out the following diagnosis of Trump…

“It’s clear that there’s age-related cognitive decline…He’s confused a lot. He sometimes mumbles sort of incoherent nonsense when he’s asked a question in the Oval Office…Clearly they’re not getting MRIs just because, because that’s the moment that we live in. There’s a reason to be worried based on his public performance.”

People in Trump’s inner circle were already praising him for not sleeping during his first occupation of the white House, including his chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, and former GOP House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. But if they are really worried about Trump getting enough sleep, they can rest assured that he is resting plenty during all of the meetings that he has been caught sleeping through.

However, no one should be impressed that Trump doesn’t get sufficient sleep. They should be concerned about how it is degrading his ability to reason and function. Not that Fox News will notice. Which makes one wonder, are they getting enough sleep?

Democratic Senator Gets Bomb Threat After Trump Called for Her Execution – Fox News Blames Her

Democrats and Republicans are both warning that these are dangerous times that we are living through. Political violence has been on the increase. Democrats have been concerned about this for several years, but Republicans seem to have just taken note of it since the shooting of right-wing activist, Charlie Kirk.

Kirk’s murder riled up the MAGA confederacy, generating a relentless stream of accusations against Democrats as being responsible for the rising tide of violence. The right’s complaints have themselves risen to the level of potentially violent rhetoric. That’s especially true of Donald Trump. And they are in complete denial of the fact that most such violence, by far, is committed by conservative perpetrators.

This week Trump lashed out a group of Democratic members of Congress – all military and/or intelligence veterans – who produced a video to remind soldiers of their legal obligation, as stated in the Uniform Code of Military Justice, that requires them to refuse to obey unlawful orders. To which Trump and his MAGA minions immediately replied by accusing them of “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!”

Trump’s threat is despicable and inflammatory. The concerns of those in the video are not hypothetical. Trump has already issued orders that are plausibly unlawful, including those to bomb boats in Caribbean without evidence of any criminal activity, and his invasions of U.S. cities by military troops to quash peaceful protests. With regards to the latter, several court rulings have already found that those deployments are illegal, including one such ruling this week.

Another affirmation of the grotesque consequences of Trump’s outbursts is that one of those in the video, Sen. Elissa Slotkin, has already been the victim of a bomb threat. Fortunately, she and her family were not at home at the time, and no one was hurt. But the intent was clear. Except, that is, for those at Fox News, who reported on the incident and perversely twisted the facts to blame Sen. Slotkin for the attempted bombing of herself. The Fox News story reported that…

“Sen. Slotkin’s home targeted with bomb threat days after she told troops to defy ‘illegal’ orders.” [and that] “The video, which was posted on Tuesday by Slotkin, has drawn the ire of Republicans as well as the Trump administration.”

Did you catch that? Fox reported that the bomb threat occurred “days after she told troops to defy ‘illegal’ orders.” Which is technically true. However, it was just a few hours after Trump posted his incendiary call for Slotkin and her colleagues to be executed. Which is far more likely to have incited the bomb threat. Funny that Fox News didn’t mention that. What’s more, in Fox’s retelling, it wasn’t Slotkin who was the target of the bomb threat, just her home. Fox also only associated the violence with unnamed Republicans and the Trump administration, but not Trump himself, who made the reprehensible remarks.

Sen. Slotkin is not the only one who has been on the receiving end of MAGA malice. Another participant in the video, Rep. Jason Crow, has been getting profane phone calls threating him and his family. You can hear them here, if you have the stomach for it. His congressional office has also received a bomb threat.

To reiterate, these atrocious acts were triggered by patriotic veterans issuing a reminder about the duties that service members swear an oath to. And Fox News is complicit in the deliberate distortion of their intentions that makes the threat of violence toward these members of Congress more likely. Some people might call that seditious behavior. But if they did, Trump would surely pardon them, just as he did others who were actually convicted of it.

Fox News and GOP Senator Idiotically Claim ‘Democrats Are Calling For Treason From Military’

The rise of authoritarianism in the reign of Donald Trump has been an inescapable concern for the patriotic Americans who cherish the principles on which this country was founded. For the whole of his time occupying the White House, Trump has worked against those principles in order to advance his cravings for wealth and power.

In just the first year of his second term, Trump has wildly exceeded the anti-American aspirations of his first term. He is imposing retributive and inflationary tariffs on most of America’s allies. He is sending troops into U.S. cities to suppress peaceful, lawful dissent. He is directing his “Justice” Department to indict and persecute his political foes. He is attempting to muzzle the free press via government pressure and ludicrous lawsuits. He is trying to rig future elections with partisan gerrymandering. And that’s an abbreviated list.

In short, Trump is working tirelessly on poisoning the institutions that hold America together. He is hellbent on twisting every one of those institution – from governmental, legal, academic, diplomatic, legislative, and even cultural – into slaves to his personal obsessions. And among the most worrisome are his efforts aimed at the institution of America’s military.

In addition to Trump’s hostilities toward U.S. cities with Democratic leaders, he is escalating his war on members of the Democratic Party itself. He recently ordered his Attorney Genuflect, Pam Bondi, to investigate Bill Clinton and other Democrats over baseless accusations of associations with Jeffrey Epstein. And on Wednesday his Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News, aired a segment that explicitly accused Democrats of advocating treason.

The segment featured an interview with Tennessee Republican senator, Marsha Blackburn, that grossly misinterprets a video produced by several Democratic members of Congress encouraging service members to honor their oaths to the Constitution (Video below). The segment played above Fox’s preposterous and hyperbolic chyron that read “Critics Say Dems Calling For Treason From Military.”

Blackburn: It is inconceivable that you would have elected officials that are saying to uniformed members of the military who have taken an oath to protect and defend that they say would defy the orders that they have been given to execute their mission. I find it inconceivable, but that is what they have chosen to do, and we will see what the response to them from Democrats…I find this just so disturbing that they would say defy the orders if you do not like the orders.
Faulkner: I don’t think they understand the slippery slope of what that does to an already unpopular Congress.

“Inconceivable”? Blackburn says that twice. But as was noted by Inigo Montoya in “The Princess Bride,” “I do not think it means what you think it means.” For one thing, they never said to “defy the orders if you do not like the orders.” They referred only to unlawful orders. And the Uniform Code of Military Justice (Article 92), literally requires service members to refuse orders that are illegal, unconstitutional, or violate military law. But don’t expect anyone on Fox News, or among the MAGA GOP, to know that.

The brazen and purposeful dishonesty of Blackburn and Fox News is meant to bring the animosity of their viewers toward Democrats to a furious boil. It is meant to further divide the nation and potentially incite violence. It is intended to put a wedge between the military and the American citizens they serve.

As such, it is Fox News and Trump’s flunkies who are engaging in the most heinous sort of unpatriotic rhetoric that should be regarded as – not treason – but at least inconceivable in civil society.

FACT CHECK: Serial Liar Trump Unleashed a Fury of Flagrant Falsehoods (aka Lies) on 60 Minutes

It is a rare occurrence when Donald Trump allows himself to be interviewed by anyone other than one of the slobbering sycophants who populate the MAGA media outlets like Fox News or Newsmax or One America News Network. It is evidence of his innate cowardice, insecurity, and fear of being asked a question that is more difficult than “How did you become so handsome and brilliant?”

Trump Lies

Which may have sparked some curiosity when it was announced that Trump would be interviewed on “60 Minutes” by Norah O’Donnell. Although it shouldn’t have for reasons that will be dealt with in more detail below. On the surface, it seemed peculiar that Trump would appear on the network and program that he recently sued for alleged “election interference.”

True to form, Trump delivered a performance that was rife with deflection and dishonesty. When he wasn’t making up fantastical diversions from reality, he was swerving off into unrelated responses to questions he either didn’t know the answers to, or was too afraid to reply with anything resembling the truth.

Fortunately, CNN’s designated fact-checker, Daniel Dale, was on the job. He posted a pretty comprehensive summation of the many lies that Trump tried to pass off as coherent replies to inquiries on some serious matters. What follows are some of the more egregiously truthless Trumpisms itemized in Dale’s article…

  • It’s not true grocery prices “are down”; Trump told this lie even after O’Donnell told him they’re up
  • It’s not true “$17 trillion” is being invested in the US “right now” (this fictional figure is nearly double the White House’s own wildly inflated “announcements” figure)
  • It’s not true some recent former presidents invoked the Insurrection Act “28 times” (Ulysses S. Grant has the record because he invoked it on six occasions)
  • It’s not true Trump has ended “eight wars” (among other issues, his list includes two situations that weren’t wars at all
  • It’s not true foreign countries pay his tariffs (US importers make the payments and often pass on costs to consumers)
  • It’s not true Trump inherited the worst inflation of all time (it was 3% the month he took office, same as now, and even the 9.1% Biden-era peak in 2022 was not close to the all-time record)
  • It’s not true the 2020 election was “rigged and stolen” (his usual lie)
  • It’s not true the Presidential Records Act says he was allowed to have classified documents at his home post-presidency (it says all presidential records are to be in government custody the moment a president leaves office)
  • It’s not true Trump never instructed the Justice Department to go after Comey and James (he explicitly pressured the head of the department to do so in a social media post we all saw)
  • It’s not true Democrats are trying to give $1.5 trillion to illegal immigrants in the shutdown battle
  • It’s not true foreign leaders have emptied their prisons to somehow insert criminals into the US as migrants

It’s ironic that Trump is lying so profusely during a “60 Minutes” interview. He sued CBS over an interview they conducted with Kamala Harris that he said was election interference and “probably illegal.” CBS settled the lawsuit without apologizing or conceding any wrongdoing. But they still shelled out $16 million dollars for his presidential library, if there is ever is one.

That settlement was a more of a bribe that CBS was paying to insure that mob boss Trump wouldn’t block the merger that CBS’ parent corporation, Paramount, was trying to complete with Skydance Media, a company run by Trump pals, Larry and David Ellison. There was no legal reason to settle. The case had no merit whatsoever. Trump was alleging that “60 Minutes” had improperly edited the interview to favor Harris politically. They didn’t.

What’s more, Trump acknowledged that he knew that CBS would be editing his interview. Which they did. It was whittled down from 90 minutes to about 28, in much the same way that he complained about for the Harris interview. And while it was in progress, Trump revealed that, not only was he aware of the editing, but he gave CBS permission to edit out specific parts that exposed the bias of the network’s new owners in his favor…

“You don’t have to put this on, because I don’t want to embarrass you. […] I think you have a great new leader, frankly, who’s – the young woman [Bari Weiss] that’s leading your whole enterprise is a great, from what I know – I don’t know her, but I hear she’s a great person. But ’60 Minutes’ was forced to pay me a lot of money because they took her [Kamala Harris] answer out that was so bad it was election-changing.”

So Trump sued CBS for what they did with the Harris interview, which is also precisely what he was now conspiring with CBS to do for his own interview. And the rest of the time he was lying. Of course, most of America – and the world – is already aware that Trump lies virtually every time he opens his mouth. But the reputation of CBS is now pretty much shot to hell. And unless the honest journalists who haven’t quit yet rise up to defend the free press, CBS can take their place in the MAGA Media Hall of Shame.

Fox News Flunky Jesse Watters Demands ‘Heinous’ Liberals Repent or Be Cast Out of Polite Society

From its very inception, the MAGA Republican movement has embraced the most vicious forms of denigration and defamation. They have taken their cues from their Dear Leader, Donald Trump, whose penchant for infantile insults and toxic tantrums are his most notoriously familiar character flaws.

Which makes it all the more preposterous that they are now posing as the heralds of decency and civility, and the paragons of purity. Those have never been among the personality traits that any rational person would associate with them. Especially Trump himself, who regularly lashes out at anyone who dares to make even a mild criticism of him.

Naturally, Trump’s Ministry of Propaganda – aka Fox News – is tirelessly on guard to defend Trump’s dishonor. And among the most ferocious defenders is the Fox News Senior Doofus, Jesse Watters. In an incredibly bizarre harangue, Watters unleashed his fury at everyone he blames for the increasing political violence in the country, including the shooting of ultra-conservative organizer, Charlie Kirk.

Of course, Watters blames Democrats and liberals, despite the fact that all of the available evidence proves that right-wingers are far more responsible for it. There was even a study conducted by the National Institute of Justice, an agency of the U.S. Justice Department, that confirmed that far right extremists were more violent. And in the midst of the current controversies, the DoJ disappeared the study. But none of that stopped Watters from raging that…

“These people are incapable of turning the temperature down. So it’s our responsibility to do it for them for the safety of the country and for their own safety. Their heinous movement should be politically destroyed, systematically dismantled. Their financial backing should be bankrupted, their media sponsors defeated [they will be] given one chance to confess and apologize. If they don’t, thrown out of polite society. […]

“And their acolytes in academia, behind the pulpit, in city councils and corporate America will be spotlighted and given one chance to confess and apologize. If they don’t, thrown out of polite society. We cannot live with people and work with people like this.”

Watters has some strange ideas about how to “turn the temperature down.” Apparently his recipe includes maligning his enemies as “heinous” and advocating for them to be “destroyed.” Although he generously offers them “one chance to confess” their sins. And if they submit and repent, then he won’t have them “thrown out of polite society.” How thoughtful. And not at all rhetorically hostile, is it?

It’s notable that Watters has aggregated every possible infidel in his decree. Teachers, pastors, politicians, businessmen, are all guilty of unspecified sins for which they must apologize. Because Watters and other good folks like him “cannot live with…people like this.” And who are the people like that? Well, Watters had decided before Kirk’s shooting suspect was even known. Last week he issued a declaration of war against some amorphous “they” who were responsible, saying that…

“They are at war with us. Whether we want to accept it or not, they are at war with us. And what are we going to do about it?”

Everything that Watters is saying is consistent with what Trump has been saying. The MAGA-verse couldn’t care less about lowering the temperature. They want to eliminate everyone who fails to subjugate themselves to Der Fuhrer. And they aren’t shy about admitting it. But unfortunately for them, the rest of us are not going to lay down for them or kneel before Trumpler. We will stand up for the principles of liberty and democracy that America was founded on. We will do so peacefully and with open hearts. And if they don’t want to join us, they can throw themselves out of polite society.
