Ted Cruz Babbles that if All Firearms in America Were Eliminated there Would Be More Murders

Nine years ago Bobby Jindal, the Republican governor of Louisiana, admonished his fellow Republicans to “stop insulting the intelligence of voters” and to “stop being ‘the stupid party.'” Instead of taking that uncharacteristically sound advice, they chose to hitch their wagon to the Ignoramus Supremo, Donald Trump.

Ted Cruz, Making Machine Gun Bacon

Today the Republican Party seems to be hell-bent on affirming its commitment to the crackpot constituency. They display a decided preference for baseless blather and flagrant lies, rather than facts and reality. And among the best representatives of that political strategy is Texas senator Ted Cruz.

On Tuesday Cruz visited with right-wing pundit Michael Knowles of the uber-conservative Daily Wire to discuss the gun reforms being proposed in the wake of the Uvalde massacre in Cruz’s home state. To no one’s surprise, Cruz conveyed his knee-jerk opposition to any of the common sense reforms that are so popular among the majority of the American people, and that his governor callously dismisses.

RELATED: Nicolle Wallace Fact Checks Texas Gov. Abbott: We Are Not Gonna Let Him Gaslight Anybody Today

In an effort to grab the Dumbest Member of Congress crown from Rep. Lauren Boebert, Cruz unleashed a ludicrous rant that is sure to put him in the running. Cruz said that…

“Taking away every firearm that Michael Knowles owns would not have stopped this psychopath from murdering children in Uvalde. And by they way, we see that in Chicago and New York and D.C. and California, where they have very strict gun control and the criminals still have guns and still carry out murders. If you could wave a magic wand and eliminate all firearms in America, there would be substantially more murders than there are today.”

Cruz is absolutely right. Taking guns from Mr. Knowles surely wouldn’t have stopped the Uvalde murderer. However, national laws restricting access to assault weapons, mandating background checks, banning high-capacity ammo magazines, implementing red flag rules, etc., might very well have had an impact. It is just stunningly stupid for Cruz to make that utterly disingenuous suggestion about taking “all” guns away from a single right-wing blowhard. And while no one is proposing banning all guns, if that were to happen, only a world-class moron would believe that it would result in more murders.

Cruz is also absolutely wrong about the examples he gave of places where stricter gun laws are not having any effect. If he were to have done the slightest bit of research he would have found that the states with the most lax regulations are where the most gun deaths occur. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the ten states with the highest per capita mortality rate due to guns are…

  1. Mississippi (28.6 per 100k)
  2. Louisiana (26.3)
  3. Wyoming (25.9)
  4. Missouri (23.9)
  5. Alabama (23.6)
  6. Alaska (23.5)
  7. New Mexico (22.7)
  8. Arkansas (22.6)
  9. South Carolina (22)
  10. Tennessee (21.3)

That list tells a story all by itself. For the record, California and New York, which have among the nation’s strictest gun laws, rank at #44 (8.5 per 100k) and #46 (5.3 per 100k), respectively. These stats include fatalities due to suicide, which should not be dismissed out of hand. However, when only murders are counted, the rankings are nearly identical. What’s more, 79% of murders in the U.S. in 2020 involved a firearm.

Clearly, as revealed in a recent study, there is a direct correlation in states with weaker gun laws having higher rates of gun deaths. Furthermore, the study found that the need for national regulations is necessary because “Despite strong gun laws, some states still feel the effects of being close to a state with more lax regulations.”

RELATED: Tucker Carlson Emasculates Ted Cruz and Lies that ‘Not a Lot Happened’ on January 6th

All of this information was available to Cruz when he shot off his mouth. But he was too preoccupied with establishing his idiocy to care about being correct. And that’s true for most of the Republicans addressing this (and almost any other) issue. It would be a ripe vein for comedy if it weren’t for all of the corpses that are piling in our schools, grocery stores, temples, etc.

Fearful Trump Attacks Georgia DA Probing His ‘PERFECT’ Phone Call Threatening Election Officials

Donald Trump may be the most transparent politician in the modern history of the United States. That isn’t because he is forthright or sincere, and certainly not because he is honest. Trump is as far removed from those traits as is humanely possible.

Click here to Tweet this article

Trump Fear

However, Trump can be unintentionally candid on occasion due to his uninhibited ego, his unfiltered ignorance, and his utter inability to comprehend what he actually says. A good example of that was on display Monday when Trump posted a message to his failing social media site, TRUTH Social. Trump’s “truth” was framed as an attack on District Attorney Fani Willis of Fulton County, Georgia. But instead it revealed just how frightened he is of Willis and her investigation. Trump whined that…

“The young, ambitious, Radical Left ‘Prosecutor” from Georgia, who is presiding over one of the most Crime Ridden and Corrupt places in the USA, Fulton County, has put together a Grand Jury to investigate an absolutely “PERFECT” phone call to the Secretary of State. Many lawyers, from both sides, were knowingly on the call. I also assumed it was taped. I called to fight a Rigged and Stolen Election, and they go after me instead of the people that Rigged and Stole it. God Bless America.”

It’s cute that Trump went out of his way to remind everyone of his “perfect” phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wherein he committed the extortion that led to his first impeachment. Although he has softened his view of Willis, saying only that she is a young, ambitious, lefty. He has previously referred to all of the prosecutors on his trail – many of whom are Black – as racists.

More to the point, Trump is flagrantly lying about the phone call that he made to Georgia Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, and other election officials and lawyers, who he threatened in order to coerce them into altering the election results. As Trump notes, the entire call was recorded.

RELATED: Trump’s Impotent and Insane Letter Asking Georgia to ‘Decertify’ the 2020 Election

But if Trump is telling the truth about knowing that the call was being taped, he’s even dumber than we thought. Because it would be extraordinarily stupid to say on a recorded line that “All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes.” That just happens to be the precise amount he needed to prevail over the actual winner, Joe Biden. And that’s all he wants. It would be even more idiotic to descend into mob boss behavior by overtly threatening to prosecute Raffensperger, saying…

“You know what they did and you’re not reporting it. That’s a criminal offense. And you can’t let that happen. That’s a big risk to you and to Ryan [Germany], your lawyer. That’s a big risk. They are shredding ballots in my opinion, based on what I’ve heard. And they are removing machinery, and they’re moving it as fast as they can. Both of which are criminal finds. And you can’t let it happen, and you are letting it happen. You know, I’m notifying you that you’re letting it happen.”

So Trump officially gave notice to these Georgia officials that he intended to hold them criminally liable for the fake offenses he is accusing them of. That notice was clearly meant to scare them into submission. And by his own admission, his demands to overturn the election were based entirely on rumors and “what I’ve heard.” And he delivered that threat on a call that he “knew” was being recorded?

Now that Trump is facing justice for his criminal acts, he is lashing out frantically and incoherently. He is undoubtedly spooked by the news that a special grand jury was seated Monday in Willis’ probe. And she said that her office is also looking into the fake Electoral College certifications that Trump’s team contrived in an effort to illegally overturn the 2020 presidential election. As reported by CNN, Willis said that…

“‘We’re going to look at anything connected with interference with the 2020 election. I’ve allowed that to be a broad scope, not just the (former) President’s phone call that you played there but other things that indicate that there may have been interference with that election, to include fake electorates.'”

As the evidence of Trump’s guilt piles up, he is exposing his fear. He can’t help it. And he actually thinks that his hysterical ravings are helpful to his dire legal circumstances. But the truth is that he is just making himself appear more feeble, frightened, and guilty. And in that respect, Trump could not be more transparent.

Now Trump is Calling the January 6th Insurrection ‘a Hoax…Just Like Russia Russia Russia’

There is a disturbingly impressive capacity for delusion among the the cult followers of Donald Trump, also known as the Republican Party. Like any other cult, they revere Dear Leader unwaveringly, and believe everything he says, no matter how bizarre and disconnected from reality.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump, QAnon, Dictator

On Saturday Trump held another of his traveling salivation shows. This one was in Wyoming where Trump is trying to oust Rep. Liz Cheney, a fellow Republican who he has declared insufficiently worshipful. Cheney committed the deadly sin of recognizing that Joe Biden obviously won the 2020 presidential election, and that Trump’s attempts to undermine democracy deserved a fair hearing and legal sanctions if criminality is proven.

RELATED: Liz Cheney: The ‘Supreme Dereliction of Duty’ By Trump Could Warrant Criminal Referral

Trump’s address in Wyoming, like nearly all of his public rants, was a rehashing of the tedious playlist that he regurgitates on auto-spew. So naturally he devoted significant time to his obsession with the allegations of voter fraud for which he has been unable to provide a shred of evidence after sixteen months, more than sixty court challenges, and a new crocumentary by an actual felon who was convicted of voter fraud.

What was new at this event was that Trump expanded his list of verifiable occurrences that he considers to be a hoax. In addition to his first impeachment, his second impeachment, his extortion of Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, the COVID-19 virus, the Mueller Report, climate change, the 2020 presidential election results, and his well-documented connections to Russia, Trump is now adding the January 6th insurrection. He repeatedly made the claim that it was a hoax in Wyoming saying that…

“[Russia] was a hoax. And now they’re doing it again with the January 6th.”

“As one of the nation’s leading proponents of the insurrection hoax, Liz Cheney has pushed a grotesquely false, fabricated, hysterical, partisan narrative. And that was the narrative of the day.”

“Now you look at the so called word insurrection. January 6th. What a lot of crap. And most of this country knows it. And you know who else knows it? The Democrats. It’s another con job just like Russia Russia Russia. This was made up by Hillary Clinton and the Democrats. A total fake story.”

So now Trump wants his glassy-eyed disciples to believe that the riots on Capitol Hill that everyone saw on live television, never actually happened. He has previously tried to gaslight his gullible groupies by saying that the rioters were merely peaceful protesters, or vacationing tourists, or even clandestine operatives working for Antifa and/or the FBI. But this appears to be the first time he has denied its existence.

RELATED: PolitiFact’s Lie of the Year: The January 6th Insurrection Disinformation By Trump and Fox News

Trump may have a difficult time selling this notion that the insurrection was a hoax to the populace at large. According to a recent Pew Research survey, 67% of the American people – including 41% of Republicans – said that Trump bears some or a lot of responsibility for the violence and destruction committed by some of his supporters when they broke into the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.”

Nevertheless, Trump will keep trying to peddle his pathetic lies. And his narrow assembly of Deplorables will eagerly lap it up. And as long as Trump can continue to fleece his flock, he will be satisfied. That’s the way of the Grifter.

UPDATE 6/8/2022: On Fox News, Lara Trump also calls the January 6th insurrection a hoax.

Insurrectionist Trump Toady Mo Brooks Warns that Guns Are Needed to ‘Take Back Our Government’

In the wake of the tragic massacre in Uvalde, Texas, the debate over how to prevent future such atrocities rages on in Congress and in the press. And as is common during these debates, there is an over abundance of hypocrisy, hyperbole and flagrant dishonesty.

Donald Trump Insurrection

Among the more repugnant reactions to this mass shooting at an elementary school is the one taken by Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Trumpist) of Alabama. Brooks is currently locked in tight Republican primary race for the Senate. Consequently, he is exploiting every opportunity to grab media exposure to offset the fact that he was recently un-endorsed by Donald Trump because “he went woke” by suggesting that Republicans should put the 2020 election behind them.

RELATED: At Trump Insurrection Convention GOP Rep. Mo Brooks Says to Prepare to Sacrifice Your Lives

Brooks, it should be noted, is not retracting his support for the “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged,” or altering his view that “Trump was robbed.” He’s just making a political judgment that moving on would benefit GOP candidates. And if there were any doubt about his devotion to the insurrection that he helped to incite on January 6, 2021, Brooks removed it during an appearance on Fox News Sunday:

Sandra Smith: Would you support any changes to the current gun laws on the books?
Brooks: Let’s, for emphasis, understand what the 2nd Amendment is about. The 2nd Amendment is designed to help ensure that we, the citizenry, always have the right to take back our government should it become dictatorial. That was a great fear of the Founding Fathers and, quite frankly, it’s a fear today. And as long as we enjoy uninfringed Second Amendment rights then we don’t really have to worry that much about the government ever becoming dictatorial. But the moment that we take from our citizenry our ability to take our government back is the moment that the ability of dictatorial forces increases to the point where perhaps they will try to implement a dictatorial government at the federal level.

Like every other right-wing 2nd Amendment fetishist and NRA-Theist, Brooks is misinterpreting what the amendment means. It had nothing to do with rising up against the U.S. government. It was intended to ensure that citizens could arm themselves, as part of a “well regulated militia,” to defend the U.S. against foreign invaders.

What Brooks is advocating is the violent overthrow of the U.S. government in the event that he and his neo-fascist confederates disapprove of the democratic will of the American people. In other words… Insurrection! He’s proposing that seditionists take up arms against the U.S. military and fellow citizens.

This is, unfortunately, not the only ultra-idiotic opinion about guns that is emanating from the radical right. For instance…

As for Brooks, his persistent advocacy of insurrection could result in his being prohibited from holding elective office. A recent ruling by a federal appeals court found that “Candidates who take part in an insurrection may be barred from holding public office under the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution.” Upholding that ruling would go a long way toward ensuring that Trump’s brand of treason and tyranny does not threaten the principles that actually did make America great.

Trump’s NRA Speech Showed He’s Still Angry, Ignorant, and Severely Mentally Dysfunctional

History is repeating itself as the National Rifle Association (NRA) lacks the decency to postpone their annual convention taking place in Houston, Texas, just days after the tragic mass shooting of children at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. Before a single funeral has been held, the NRA is celebrating their sick and deadly obsession with gun culture and the manufacturers who profit from it.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump AR-15

The NRA’s decision to proceed with the convention did not have the universal approval of their participants. Many canceled their planned appearances, including cowardly politicians Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, and Sen. John Cornyn, as well as entertainers Don McLean, Larry Gatlin, and Lee Underwood. However, among those remaining on the schedule were Sen. Ted Cruz and, of course, former reality TV game show host, Donald Trump.

In the opening to his address, Trump exalted himself saying that “Unlike some, I didn’t disappoint you by not showing up,” Which is true. If anything, showing up was the actual disappointment. His speech was littered with tiresome tirades that have been festering within the pro-gun community for decades.

RELATED: Lauren Boebert Vies for ‘Dumbest Member of Congress’ Title: ‘We Didn’t Ban Planes’ After 9/11

For instance, Trump whined about what he called “a grotesque effort by some in our society to use the suffering of others to advance their own extreme political agenda.” Which, of course, is what he and the NRA are doing. The allegedly “grotesque efforts” he is attacking actually reflect the majority will of the American people to prevent future massacres.

Then Trump added that “Even more repulsive is their rush to shift blame away from the villains who commit acts of mass violence and to place that blame onto the shoulders of millions of peaceful law abiding citizens who belong to organizations, such as our wonderful NRA.” Which, of course, no one is doing. Rather, concerned citizens are acknowledging the role that lax regulations and access to military-style assault weapons play in the body count of innocent victims of the “villains.”

Central to Trump’s message to the NRA-Theists is the classic gun-nut doctrine of absolving firearms of having any connection to the harm they cause, and chastising Democrats for daring to want to do something about it. Trump babbled that…

“Whatever our differences may be on other issues, what on Earth is stopping Democrats from immediately passing measures to ramp up school security? How many more tragedies will it take until they agree to set aside their far left political agenda and do what is really needed and actually works.

This is not about virtue cycling, and signing. This is about blaming your enemies. No, we don’t wanna do that. This is about saving our children’s lives. Yes, that’s what we want to do. Surely we can all agree that our schools should not be the softest target. Our schools should be the single hardest target in our country.”

Let’s unpack that nonsense step by step. To begin with, Trump’s citing security cannot be taken seriously when the Uvalde massacre occurred despite the presence of many police officers who were too scared to confront a perpetrator armed with an assault weapon. Secondly, what Trump is maligning as a “far left political agenda” is actually the mainstream view of most Americans. Thirdly, what works are measures that restrict easy access to weapons of war. Fourth, accepting the definition of schools as “targets,” whether soft or hard, is patently offensive. They are learning institutions, not battlefields or prisons. The teachers are not soldiers and the students are not combatants.

What’s more, it’s hard to ignore how Trump stumbles in his remarks in a manner that exposes his mental frailty when he gets to the part about “virtue cycling, and signing.” The words he is mangling off of his TelePrompTer is the phrase “virtue signaling,” a derogatory reference to expressions of moral character. No wonder Trump is so agitated by it that he can’t even utter it correctly. But then he goes on to positively embrace the notion that “This is about blaming your enemies.” But when he heard himself make that gaffe, he pretended, as he often does, that he did it on purpose. This is the “stable genius” speaking?

Both Trump and the NRA refuse to acknowledge that guns are a significant factor in tragedies like the one that just occurred un Uvalde. They prefer to blame mental health, an issue that they are also resistant to resolving. In fact, they deliberately make it worse. The first bill that Trump signed when he began his occupation of the White House was one that reversed an Obama-era regulation that restricted gun purchases by people with mental illnesses. And Texas governor Greg Abbott cut $211 million dollars from mental health care services in his state.

RELATED: Nicolle Wallace Fact Checks Texas Gov. Abbott: We Are Not Gonna Let Him Gaslight Anybody Today

The one constant in all of this is the determination of the right to shield guns, and the corporations that manufacture and market them, from any and all responsibility for the pain they inflict on innocent victims, including children. And Trump is only to happy to obediently subjugate himself to his corporatist masters in order to secure their assistance in his quest for wealth and power.

Nicolle Wallace Fact Checks Texas Gov. Abbott: We Are Not Gonna Let Him Gaslight Anybody Today

The parade of the protectors of assault weapons and their manufacturers continued in Texas on Friday as their Republican governor, Greg Abbott, held another press conference to run cover for corporations that profit from death. It was just more of the same stubborn defense of lethal firearms, and deflection of blame to inadequate mental health services, for which Abbott and his ilk are also responsible.

Click here to Tweet this article

Nicolle Wallace, MSNBC

On Thursday Abbott’s pro-gun presser was interrupted by the Democratic candidate for governor, Beto O’Rourke, who chastised Abbott for doing nothing to stop the “totally predictable” slaughters that recur way too often in America. Equally predictable is the coverage by Fox News and other right-wing outlets that are intent on shutting down the sort of dialogue that O’Rourke was attempting to encourage.

RELATED: In a Repulsive Political Rant Tucker Carlson Accuses Biden of Politicizing the Uvalde Massacre

On Friday Abbott’s affair was interrupted again. This time by Roland Gutierrez, the Texas State Senator whose district includes Uvalde, TX. Gutierrez pleaded with Abbott to take some proactive measures to prevent future bloodshed (video below):

“My colleagues are asking for a special session, you’re getting a letter tomorrow. We’ve asked for gun control changes, I’m asking you now to bring us back in two weeks. I apologize for interrupting your press conference about the needs of this community. […]

“I don’t know how to express the loss of the families that I’ve talked to. I know you feel it too. We have to do something. Your own colleagues are telling me, calling me and telling me, an 18-year-old shouldn’t have a gun. This is enough. Call us back. Just call us back.”

Abbott smugly ignored Gutierrez and asked if there were any other questions. But just at that moment, MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace cut into the telecast to deliver some pertinent background information about what was taking place. Saying that “We’ll listen, but we are not gonna let [Abbott] gaslight anybody today,” Wallace continued…

“I want to provide a little bit of context to the gentleman who stood up to Gov. Abbott right there inside this press conference. We believe that was Democratic State Senator Roland Gutierrez who called for a special session. He and others have pressed this governor of a state in which nineteen third and fourth graders were slaughtered by a weapon that Gov. Abbott doesn’t believe should be illegal, in a process that Gov. Abbott doesn’t think should be illegal, without a background check that Gov. Abbott doesn’t think is necessary.

“Gov. Abbott’s solution for making sure that the slaughter at Uvalde doesn’t happen again is mental health services. And, again, he slashed $211 million from the state’s mental health services. The state of Texas comes in 50th in terms of access to mental health care that it provides to its citizens.”

That’s precisely how these sort of self-serving “news” conferences should be covered. The dishonesty of bought-and-paid-for politicians like Abbott needs to be revealed at every opportunity, and right when it occurs. The cretins who keep trying to lay the blame on mental health know that it’s a phony excuse designed to shield the gun lobby from responsibility. Many other countries also have people with mental problems who are not butchering their fellow citizens.

However, even if you were to take their excuses seriously, the people clinging to them are the same ones who oppose providing adequate health care for their constituents. It’s the same story in Washington as it is in Texas. Republicans have obstructed every common sense gun reform measure for decades. Usually making utter fools of themselves as they struggle to articulate a coherent argument against reforms that the vast majority of Americans support. And, sadly, this will continue until voters manage to expel every one of these unrepresentative slimeballs from office.

Lauren Boebert Vies for ‘Dumbest Member of Congress’ Title: ‘We Didn’t Ban Planes’ After 9/11?

The contest for “Dumbest Member of Congress” is always a competitive affair that pits such legends of lunacy as Louis Gohmert, Matt Gaetz, and the eminently idiotic Marjorie Taylor Greene, against one another. The caliber of the crackpottery is so impressive that it’s near impossible to choose a winner.

Lauren Boebert

However, on Thursday one contender made a valiant effort to lead the pack. Lauren Boebert appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox News program to field some softballs from guest host Tammy Bruce. The subject was the massacre in Uvalde, Texas, that Fox News has been callously politicizing, while accusing concerned Democrats of being political. Bruce and Boebert discussed the potential of legislative initiatives to prevent future tragedies. Bruce asked Boebert “what the next step can be taken for some real change here.” Whereupon Boebert unleashed some stellar stupidity that assures she will remain a top contender for dimwit distinction:

“I want our schools secured. I want their children protected, and I want teachers that can protect themselves and their students. […] Sandy Cortez tweeting at me, but she hasn’t taken up my offer to meet an work together. And of course we saw Beto acted like a total jerk, and tried to use the deaths of these children as a prop to advance his political candidacy. When 9/11 happened, we didn’t ban planes. We secured the cockpit.”

Boebert joins the rest of the Republican gun fetishists in blaming everyone and everything for the tragedy , except for guns. She parroted the right-wing narrative that advocates turning schools into prisons and teachers into armed guards. She follows that up with some typically infantile insults aimed at Rep. Alexandria Cortez-Ocasio and Beto O’Rourke, who she whines won’t meet with her. Why would anyone want to meet with Boebert, whose childish behavior betrays her intellectual vacancy?

RELATED: FLAGRANT FOWL: QAnon GOP Rep Blames ‘Biden’s America’ for Chick-fil-A Sauce Shortage

Boebert’s repugnant personality notwithstanding, what truly sets her apart from the pinhead pack is her contention that “we didn’t ban planes” after 9/11. Really?

First of all, this is an utterly ludicrous analogy. There is no similarity whatsoever between the singular terrorist attack by Al Qaeda two decades years ago, and the horrifyingly frequent mass shootings that occur, uniquely, in the United States. Secondly, just as no one proposed banning all planes after 9/11, no one is proposing banning all guns now.

Although, even if we patronize Boebert’s bizarre analogy, she is making a great case for regulating guns. The truth is that air travel was broadly regulated after 9/11. Passengers have to provide government issued identification. They have to remove their shoes and belts and any metal objects from their pockets. They can’t carry aboard any common objects like scissors, or containers of liquids more than eight ounces. They and their baggage are screened with x-rays.

RELATED: QAnon Rep Lauren Boebert Has a Sad Over Biden Doing What He Was Elected To Do

In other words, the 9/11 incident resulted in the implementation of numerous strict regulations to increase public safety. So by Boeert’s alleged logic, guns should be similarly regulated, and for the same reason. But don’t expect her to grasp that. Her cognitive capabilities are too limited to understand what she’s saying. Which is precisely why she ranks so high on the imbecile scale in the first place.

Battle of the Goliaths of Gaslighting: Trump Calls Kellyanne Conway a Liar – and Vice Versa

The steady stream of smell-all books flowing from the ranks of former Donald Trump cranks continues to flood the literary bargain bins. The latest is Here’s the Deal by White House counselor, and “alternative facts” dispenser, Kellyanne Conway.

Click here to Tweet this article

Kellyanne Conway, Fox News

In her new book, Conway claims that she spoke with Trump following his decisive loss to Joe Biden and that she “may have been the first person Donald Trump trusted in his inner circle who told him that he had come up short this time.” If that’s true, Conway is revealing that Trump’s “inner circle” was comprised of either shameless, sycophantic cowards, or psychotics who were just as removed from reality as their Dear Leader. Or some combination of both.

RELATED: Trump Posts ‘Foolproof’ Evidence that the Election Was ‘Rigged’ But it’s Only Proof for Fools

The facts supporting Biden’s victory are overwhelming and confirmed by elections officials from all fifty states – including Republicans. No evidence of widespread voting irregularities were found after numerous recounts, audits, and more than sixty court challenges by Trump and his legal toadies.

So the fact that Trump even needed to be told that he was the loser says so much about the severity of his mental dysfunction. However, despite his having been apprised of his political belly-flop, Trump still hasn’t been convinced. And he is especially perturbed at his former PR princess for tattling on him. Trump posted his perturbance on his failing social media site PRAVDA …er… TRUTH Social:

“Kellyanne Conway never told me that she thought we lost the election. If she had, I wouldn’t have dealt with her any longer — she would have been wrong — could go back to her crazy husband. Writing books can make people say some very strange things. I wonder why? Got 12 million more votes than we did the first time, the most votes, by far, of any sitting President. The election was RIGGED. They used Covid to cheat and steal, and the evidence is massive and indisputable. See ‘2000 Mules.”

What we have here is Trump calling Conway a liar, while the revelations in her book make Trump out to be lying. And with two such formidable fountains of falsehoods, who is to be believed? Naturally, Trump’s remarks resort to infantile insults about Conway’s family. But his assertion that “Writing books can make people say some very strange things,” comes off as more of a confession considering that he just announced that he writing a new book, the title of which, “Crime of the Century,” also sounds like a confession.

It’s cute that Trump thinks that because he got more votes than he did in 2016, that it means he couldn’t have lost. Someone needs to tell him that the object is to get more votes than your opponent, not more than yourself four years earlier. And his allegedly “massive and indisputable” evidence that the election was “rigged” is based on the crocumentary “2,000” Mules,” apparently named for the numerous jackasses who are still trying to peddle the election fraud bullpucky.

RELATED: Tucker Carlson Hysterically Hypes Bogus Election ‘Fraud’ Film By Convicted Election Fraudster

Conway’s book is just the latest to disclose some of the aberrant details of Trump’s occupation of the White House. It follows tomes by his Attorney General, Bill Barr, and his Secretary of Defense, Mark Esper, and his communications director Stephanie Grisham, to name a few. And in each and every case Trump has lambasted his former confidantes as liars. So either Trump is an epically awful judge of character, or he is the king of the cretinous con artists. Or some combination of both.

For Those Wondering What Biden and Democrats in Congress Have Been Doing the Past 16 Months…

As the 2020 midterm election approaches, the Democratic Party is facing headwinds that threaten to leave the Party in the minority for the remainder of President Biden’s term. Biden himself is suffering inexplicably low approval ratings in most recent polls.

Fox News, Joe Biden

Sure, there are notable difficulties that are impacting the mood of the American people. Economic issues such as inflation and gas prices weigh on the minds of voters. But those are not matters that the President – any president – has control over. In fact, inflation and gas prices are high around the world. Which is proof that Biden, who isn’t president of any of those other countries, isn’t to blame. Not that that will stop Fox News from blaming him anyway.

Speaking of the world, the war in Ukraine casts a pall on U.S. foreign affairs. Tensions flair as refugees seek safety from the unprovoked assault by Russia. Add to this the high anxiety of the political divisions exacerbated by the knee-jerk partisanship and obstructionism of the Republican Party and the purposeful hostility manufactured by Donald Trump and his cult disciples. But again, those troubles aren’t Biden’s fault either.

So why is Biden polling so badly? And why are congressional Democrats at risk of losing seats in Congress? By all accounts the only explanation is that it’s a messaging problem. Despite the negatives addressed above, there are an abundance of positives that could be highlighted to raise the prospects for Democrats, including record economic growth growth, job creation, and progress on climate change, healthcare, and combatting COVID. Unfortunately, that message isn’t getting out very effectively. And, of course, Fox News and other right-wing media are deliberately suppressing it.

Which brings us to MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan. On his weekend program Hasan helpfully provided a concise compilation of reasons that the American people should be more appreciative of the work that Biden and Democrats are doing on their behalf. It went something like this (video below)

“In just 60 seconds, I listed the dozens of common-sense, hugely-popular Democratic bills that House Republicans have voted against: from baby formula money to free hearing aids to background checks to $1400 checks to many more.

“Over the past sixteen months since Joe Biden entered the White House and Democrats took control of both chambers of Congress, Republicans in the House of Representatives have opposed dozens and dozens of common sense, and often very popular, Democratic Party bills. Let me mention just some of them…”

  • Infant Formula Supplemental Appropriations Act.
  • Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act.
  • Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act.
  • Targeting Resources to Communities in Need Act.
  • Relief for Restaurants and Other Hard Hit Small Business Act.
  • Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act.
  • The Affordable Insulin Now Act.
  • Honoring Our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act.
  • America Competes Act.
  • Build Back Better Act.
  • Women’s Health Protection Act.
  • John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
  • Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act.
  • Bipartisan Background Checks Act.
  • American Rescue Plan Act.
  • Equality Act.

“The vast majority of House Republicans in their nihilism and denialism voted against each and every one of those hugely popular bills. So maybe, just maybe House Democrats, and not me on cable, should be pointing all this out.”

Biden has recently made more of an effort to articulate the accomplishments of his administration. But there doesn’t seem to be any coordinated effort on the part of Democrats to accentuate the positive. And the media isn’t helping by focusing almost exclusively on the downside. They, of course, are not obligated to cheerlead for Democrats. But they do have an obligation to be fair. And fairness demands some recognition of the good works that Democrats have and are engaging in.

The House committee investigating the January 6th insurrection will begin holding public hearings soon. That’s an important development to expose the sedition and corruption of the GOP and Fox News, where lying about the Capitol riots continues unabated. But there must be a positive case for voting Democratic as well. And hopefully the politicians and pundits will devote more time and effort to that endeavor, for the sake of the edification of voters, and for democracy itself.

In a Repulsive Political Rant Tucker Carlson Accuses Biden of Politicizing the Uvalde Massacre

Fox News, and the Republican Party for which it stands, has established a nauseatingly predictable response to the sort of tragic event that occurred on Tuesday in Uvalde, Texas. To the cretins on Fox there is never a good time to discuss the causes of, or solutions to, mass shootings. And any effort to do so is characterized as politicizing a tragedy.

The problem with that is that it guarantees that there will be more carnage and grief for which right-wing partisans will only offer “thoughts and prayers” – again. They seem to be hell-bent on preserving a status quo wherein victims – even children – are repeatedly slaughtered in order to avoid offending the National Rifle Association (NRA) or, even worse, cooperating with President Biden and the Democrats to implement solutions that will save lives and that most Americans favor.

Leading the charge of the callous crusaders is Fox’s Senior White Nationalist and bootlicking Putin puppet, Tucker Carlson. And on Tuesday evening he demonstrated his determination to advance the NRA’s ammosexual agenda. In a tiresome tirade seeking to portray Biden as politicizing the shooting, Carlson shamelessly politicized the shooting:

“The president of the United States, frail, confused, bitterly partisan, desecrating the memory of recently murdered children with tired talking points of the Democratic Party, dividing the country in a moment of deep pain rather than uniting. His voice rising, amplified only as he repeats the talking points he repeated for over 35 years in the United States Senate, partisan politics being the only thing that animates him. Unfit for leadership of this country.”

Carlson’s analysis of of the speech that Biden gave on Tuesday (video below) is not just childishly insulting, it’s profoundly at variance with reality. Nothing that Biden said could be coherently described as “desecrating the memory of recently murdered children.” Nor was it “dividing the country,” that is united in support of the reforms that Biden and Democrats in Congress have proposed. But Carlson was just getting started:

“What a moment this would’ve been if he had stopped a sentence in and said we’re gonna pray for these families and let’s let this marinate for a minute. Let’s stand respectfully before a tragedy. And Joe Biden has lived tragedy so he can say that with some credibility. He moved immediately into some DNC rant off a cue card. That’s the president?” […]

“To stand before the image of murdered children, and your first impulse is, ‘I can be more powerful if only I leverage this in the right way.’ I am in shock having seen the president on the United States call for more power for himself. That is his answer?”

So Carlson’s solution is to “let this marinate for a minute”? Whatever that means. And he continues to accuse Biden of having ulterior motives of securing “more power for himself.” However, Carlson never explains how enacting common sense gun reforms that are broadly popular makes Biden more powerful.

Carlson’s guest, Fox and Friends co-host Will Cain, complained that funds were spent on Ukraine and COVID that should be used on “protecting schools” instead. Seriously? The shooting in Texas was unquestionably horrendous. But comparing tragedies to one another is the province of a sick mind. Tens of thousands of lives have been lost in Ukraine and millions of people have become refugees in this battle for democracy. As for COVID, which Carlson has dismissed as a distraction or a hoax, the United States recently passed the one million mark of fatalities. A decent and humane country has a heart big enough to care for all of these matters.

In the speech that Carlson was “shocked” by, Biden showed compassion and commitment to stemming the epidemic of gun violence. And perhaps that’s exactly what bothers him so much.

“I had hoped, when I became President, I would not have to do this again. Another massacre. Uvalde, Texas. An elementary school. Beautiful, innocent second, third, fourth graders. And how many scores of little children who witnessed what happened. […] As a nation, we have to ask: When in God’s name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby? When in God’s name will we do what we all know in our gut needs to be done? […] For every parent, for every citizen in this country, we have to make it clear to every elected official in this country: It’s time to act.”
