Fox News Spreads Blatant Lie that the ‘FBI Paid $3.5M To Suppress Hunter Laptop Story’

For the past couple of weeks Elon Musk has been dispatching his flagrantly biased and incurious yellow journalists to propagate obvious falsehoods about Twitter’s previous management. His intent has been to discredit them as disreputable Trump haters and submissive servants of clandestine FBI handlers.

Fox News, Fake News

After seven tediously long document dumps of what were private, internal communications, Musk and Company pitifully failed to prove their predetermined conclusions, or whatever they imagined was their point. To the contrary, these much ballyhooed excretions of mostly random and irrelevant emails actually proved that Twitter’s Trust and Safety team acted responsibly to protect the website – and the nation – from documented propaganda and disinformation by Russia and other hostile foreign actors.

Musk’s minions only succeeded in showing that Twitter’s staff was not biased against Trump. In fact, they were decidedly fair in their analysis and decisions. But that didn’t stop the right-wingnut echo chamber from latching onto Musk’s muckrakers, especially Donald Trump…

RELATED: Trump Unleashes Vile Threats in Tantrum Over Elon Musk’s ‘Twitter Files’ Farce (Part 6)

The latest batch from the “Twitter Files” trash heap (Part 7) continued in the tradition of the previous six. This episode’s author, Michael Shellenberger, promised that he would “present evidence” that the FBI sought to “discredit leaked information about Hunter Biden.” Not only did he present no such evidence, he actually presented evidence of the opposite. Such as one email wherein “Twitter debunked false claims” of foreign influence. And another wherein “Twitter’s [Yoel] Roth has pushed back against the FBI.”

Despite that demonstration of fairness and good judgement, Fox News ran with a particularly deviated narrative. The headline for their “reporting” said that the “FBI Paid $3.5M To Suppress Hunter Laptop Story.”

To the surprise of no one who has watched Fox News for more than a few minutes, that headline – and the accompanying story – was just plain untrue. What Fox News used to craft their false framing was one of Shellenberger’s points where he claimed that “The FBI’s influence campaign may have been helped by the fact that it was paying Twitter millions of dollars for its staff time.” He elaborated with a quote from an unnamed Twitter staffer who reported that “we have collected $3,415,323 since October 2019.”

Fox News is deliberately misinterpreting that as the FBI paying Twitter to get them to suppress a story about Hunter Biden. In reality, the FBI is reimbursing Twitter for the time they spent working on requests for information by the FBI. That is a legally mandated payment that requires that “a governmental entity obtaining the contents of communications, records, or other information … shall pay to the person or entity assembling or providing such information a fee for reimbursement for such costs as are reasonably necessary.”

As if that weren’t enough, there isn’t even any connection in the emails that were released between the FBI reimbursements and any story about Hunter Biden. Musk and Fox News just totally manufactured that.

Furthermore, the reports that the FBI “demanded” certain actions be taken by Twitter, and that Twitter obediently complied, are also untrue. And, once again, the facts were tucked away in Musk’s own document dump that disclosed that the FBI’s requests could not be remotely characterized as demands. They were merely notices about “accounts which may potentially constitute violations of Twitter’s Terms and Service for any action or inaction deemed appropriate within Twitter policy.” (emphasis added)

This is the sort of manipulation that Fox News engages in on a daily (hourly) basis. They have no regard for the truth. They are only interested in disseminating distortions that advance their ultra-conservative agenda. It’s how they can take mundane irrelevancies and magnify them into explosive pseudo-scandals.

FOR INSTANCE: Fox News Lies: Falsely Accuses Michele Obama of ‘Pressuring’ Twitter to Ban Trump

UPDATE: The FBI responds: “The correspondence between the FBI and Twitter show nothing more than examples of our traditional, longstanding and ongoing federal government and private sector engagements. […] As evidenced in the correspondence, the FBI provides critical information to the private sector in an effort to allow them to protect themselves and their customers. […] It is unfortunate that conspiracy theorists and others are feeding the American public misinformation with the sole purpose of attempting to discredit the agency.”

Trump Renews Whining that Mike Pence is a Deep State Traitor for Not Overturning the Election

It’s only Tuesday, and yet this has already been been a terrible week for Donald Trump. It’s week that follows several wherein he has been brutally and deservedly chastised for having dined with racists and anti-Semites, and for calling for the “termination” fo the Constitution, and for hawking his ridiculous NFT trading cards.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump, Deep State

As if that weren’t enough, the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection that Trump incited has issued criminal referrals to the Justice Department citing at least four charges that they recommend be brought against him. Needless to say, he didn’t take that well.

RELATED: Crybaby Trump Throws a Tantrum in Response to the House Select Committee’s Criminal Referrals

True to form, Trump is lashing out wildly in every direction. He is attacking every perceived foe in his twisted mind, including the January 6th Committee, Special Counsel Jack Smith, the FBI (that was headed by his appointees), Hunter Biden, and the ever present and nefarious “Deep State,” that is supposedly populated by Democrats and Republicans conspiring to destroy Trump.

In a typically unhinged harangue Tuesday morning, Trump unleashed his rage at those responsible for what he still calls the “rigged and stolen” presidential election of 2020. Although now that Congress is about to pass the Electoral Count Reform Act, he is now focusing on that aspect, and the role that he believes his former vice-president, Mike Pence, had in betraying him and his tyrannical aspirations.

In a series of posts on his floundering Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, Trump laid out his laments over Pence choosing not to violate the Constitution by failing to certify the election results. Trump whined that…

“They said the Vice President has ‘absolutely no choice,’ it was carved in ‘steel,’ but if he has no choice, why are they changing the law saying he has no choice?”

And that…

“it is because the Vice President did have a choice, and looking back at it now, the 2020 Voting Fraud was far greater than anyone thought possible, with even our Government, through the FBI, changing the results of the Election by millions and millions of votes.”

And that…

“John Eastman and others were correct in stating that the Vice President of the United States had the right to do what should have been done. […] The whole thing is one big Scam!”

And that there was a…

“highly successful effort made by the FBI in illegally changing the results of the 2020 Presidential Election.”

Trump’s infamously ignorant grasp of government and laws is evident here as he demonstrates his failure to understand the Constitution’s directive regarding the vice-president’s largely ceremonial role in certifying the Electoral College count. Trump thinks that because a bipartisan majority of members of Congress seek to clarify some of the archaic language in the original Electoral Count Act of 1887, that the old law permits the vice-president to unilaterally discard any of those votes that he chooses.

That, of course, is absurd. And cleaning up the language is just being done in order to prevent future corrupt leaders like Trump from trying to misinterpret the law in order to assume dictatorial control of the government.

What’s more, Trump is alleging – without any factual basis – that the FBI played some sort of role in “changing the results of the Election by millions and millions of votes.” As usual, Trump doesn’t provide a shred of evidence to support his allegations. However he does manage to get his toadies in Congress to go along with him. James Comer, the incoming chair of the House Oversight Committee said this on the subject…

“We need to halt everything with the FBI. All funding. Until they come forward and explain to Congress exactly what they were doing, why they were doing it, and who gave them the authority to do it.”

So now Republicans are openly advocating to defund the police. Someone needs to ask them how an unfunded FBI will investigate Hunter Biden’s laptop. Or the election “fraud” that put Joe Biden in the White House. How will the FBI probe the FBI’s corruption on behalf of the “Deep State” cabal in the FBI? It’s all so very peculiar. Which, in the MAGA mind, is proof that it must all be true. And now according to Trump, it’s all Mike Pence’s fault.

Crybaby Trump Throws a Tantrum in Response to the House Select Committee’s Criminal Referrals

It was a long time coming, but the House Select Committee investigating Donald Trump for inciting an insurrection on January 6, 2021, has finally completed its work. And the first order of business was to issue criminal referrals to the Justice Department for Trump’s well documented crimes.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump

The Committee is recommending that charges be brought against Trump for obstruction of an official proceeding, conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to make a false statement, and incitement, rebellion or insurrection. It’s a historic and unprecedented action taken in response to the historic and unprecedented acts of a rogue president. And Trump predictably lashed out at the Committee (that he was too chicken to testify before) with all the determination of a bratty six year old denied a toy that he wanted. On his pitifully floundering Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, Trump said that…

“The Fake charges made by the highly partisan Unselect Committee of January 6th have already been submitted, prosecuted, and tried in the form of Impeachment Hoax # 2. I WON convincingly. Double Jeopardy anyone!”

There’s a surprisingly large amount of bullshittery in that brief statement. Let’s explore it…

  1. The charges are not “fake.” They are very real and histoically profound.
  2. The Committee was not “highly partisan.” There were two conservative Republicans on the panel.
  3. It was a Select Committee, not as Trump calls it in his infantile manner, the “Unselect Committee.”
  4. The charges have never been “submitted, prosecuted, and tried” before in any court.
  5. Trump survived conviction, but he cannot by any stretch of the imagination honestly say that he “WON convincingly.”
  6. A congressional impeachment is not the same as a court trial and thus there was no “Double Jeopardy.”

Poor Donald Trump is struggling desperately to absolve himself of his obvious guilt with a pathetically ignorant comment that totally avoids facts and rational analysis. He wishes the charges were “fake” so that he could go on pretending that there is no imminent legal peril in his near future. And no matter how much he tries, he can’t shake the fact that the Congress of the United States has found that there is sufficient evidence to prosecute him for multiple crimes.

Consequently, Trump fires up his imagination to create a false recollection of what has taken place since the insurrection that he incited. Contrary to his lies, the House voted to impeach Trump by a 232–197 vote, with all 222 Democrats voting to impeach, joined by ten Republicans. In the Senate Trump survived due to the two-thirds requirement for conviction. The final vote was a majority of 57 guilty to 43 not guilty, including seven Republicans, but short of the two-thirds threshold.

Failing to make a coherent legal case for his innocence, Trump took a detour to rely on the devotion of his cult followers, as if that has any relevance under the law. And he repeated another couple of lies that he has been telling for nearly two years, saying that…

“These folks don’t get it that when they come after me, people who love freedom rally around me. It strengthens me. What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger. Americans know that I pushed for 20,000 troops to prevent violence on Jan 6, and that I went on television and told everyone to go home.”

Not exactly. Setting aside the overt threat in Trump’s comment, the truth is that Americans know that he never pushed for any troops on January 6th to protect the Capitol – from his own supporters. That doesn’t even make sense unless he expected his cult followers to riot. And he didn’t go on TV for almost three hours after the assault was in progress and many people, including law enforcement, were injured. When he did make a statement, he told the rioters that he loved them.

SEE THIS: Trump’s Lame Address to His Terrorist Coup Plotters: “Go Home, We love you.”

Furthermore, Trump is still showing support for the traitors who stormed Congress, promising to halt their prosecutions or pardon them, if he returns to the White House.

Trump posted several other comments on his website that were equally riddled with flagrant falsehoods and devoid of any substance. He raged about “Radical Left Democrats (Communists),” and non-existent election fraud, and “the Massive number of CRIMES committed by JOE & HUNTER BIDEN” that reside only in his twisted mind.

Trump also posted a video clip of Nazis being sentenced from the film “Nuremberg” with Alec Baldwin. But somehow he didn’t get that most Americans will associate Hitler’s henchmen in the clip with him and his cadre of traitors. That’s how oblivious he is to reality in his current state of derangement.

Mealy Mike Pence Tells Fox News that He is Against Indicting Trump – Who Nearly Got Him Hanged

After months of hearings, with evidence provided by hundreds of (mostly Republican) witnesses and millions of documents, the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection that Donald Trump incited is preparing to release their final report.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump, Mike Pence, Hanging

Along with that report, the Committee is also issuing criminal referrals to the Justice Department for a cadre of Trump cohorts, as well as for Trump himself. The charges include Trump’s role inciting and/or assisting the insurrection, obstruction of official Congressional proceedings, and conspiracy to defraud the United States. In anticipation of the Committee’s conclusions, a frightened Trump has been acting out in his typically infantile, and ultimately impotent, fashion.

RELATED: Trump Being Too Scared to Testify Under Oath, Files Lawsuit Against the January 6th Committee

On Monday morning Trump’s former vice-president and certified toady, Mike Pence, visited Fox News for another softball interview. In this outing Pence affirmed his allegiance to his former boss whose response to the insurrection contributed to the mob’s hostilities and their fevered chants to “Hang Mike Pence.” As an expression of his gratitude for nearly getting him killed, Pence told Fox News that “Few Americans are paying attention” to this Committee. He then elaborated on his opinion that Trump should be allowed to get away with his treasonous crimes…

“I would hope that [the Justice Department] would not bring charges against the former president. I think the president’s actions and words on January 6 were reckless, but I don’t know that it’s criminal to take bad advice from lawyers and so I hope the Justice Department is careful.”

Actually, Pence, who practiced law before his political career, does know that it absolutely can be criminal to take bad advice from lawyers. If your lawyer advises you to commit a crime – say rob a bank or lie under oath or incite a riot – and you take that advice, you are definitely criminally liable. And so, by the way, is your lawyer.

Even Fox News co-host Dana Perino shot back at Pence’s reference to Trump’s shady lawyers saying that “There might be criminal referrals on that too.” She was referring to reports that criminal referrals are likely to be issued for Trump-associated attorneys John Eastman, Jeff Clark, and Rudy Giuliani. Pence then continued saying that…

“I hope the Justice Department understands the magnitude, the very idea of indicting a former president of the United States. I think that would be terribly divisive in the country at a time when the American people want to see us heal.”

Pence doesn’t have to worry about whether the Justice Department “understands the magnitude” of indicting a former president. It’s obvious that they do. However, he might want to pay more attention to the magnitude of a former president trying to undermine democracy and overthrow the government.

He may also want to consider the necessity of holding such criminals accountable, not just to punish their unlawful acts, but in order to deter others from committing similar acts in the future. Trump is already advocating absolution for his insurrectionist hordes.

RELATED: Trump Promises to Halt the Prosecutions of the January 6th Mob He Incited to Attack Congress

What’s more, Pence is misinterpreting – or more likely lying about – the American people’s desire to “heal.” They surely do. But a majority of them favor prosecuting Trump as the path to that healing.

For his part, Trump is behaving precisely as would be expected of a self-serving, narcissistic, wannabe dictator. He posted on his floundering Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, that…

“Republicans and Patriots all over the land must stand strong and united against the Thugs and Scoundrels of the Unselect Committee. It will be a dark period in American history, but with darkness comes light!!!”

The darkest period of modern American history has already passed. It ended when Trump was evicted by the American people from his occupation of the White House. The light emerged with the election of President Biden. But sadly, Trump continues to cast his corpulent shadow over the nation. And the only remedy for that is the for the law to be finally and fully enforced without fear or favor. Whether Pence wants it or not.

Fox News Fanboy Tucker Carlson Oozes His Perverse Trump Love at Right-Wing Cult Festival

For more than six years Fox News has served as the de facto Ministry of Propaganda for Donald Trump and his Republican Party. Their hosts and guests have marched in lock-step to the beat of Trump’s dystopian drum, even after he incited a violent insurrection in Washington, D.C., or stole and lied about hoarding classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, or called for the “termination” of the Constitution. And that only scratches the surface of his overtly illegal and anti-American offenses.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Donald Trump

The devotion to Dear Leader Trump has been unshakable at Fox News no matter how hostile he becomes toward the principles of America or the values of its citizens. And the competition for the most adoring Trump-fluffer at Fox has been fierce with the likes of Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Jeanine Pirro, and Jesse Watters among the slobbering contenders.

RELATED: Fox News Lauds Trump as ‘Unbeatable in 2024’ Following His Dystopian Campaign Announcement

This weekend, however, Fox’s Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson, moved into a leading position. He spoke at the devoutly Trump worshipping affair, Americafest, put on by the ultra-conservative Turning Point USA in Phoenix, Arizona. The roster for this event was a rogues’ gallery of right-wingers that included four Fox News hosts and five GOP members of Congress, along with crackpots like Mike Lindell, Steve Bannon, and Trump spawn, Donnie Jr.

In his address to the Trump cultists in the audience, Carlson literally professed his love for Trump, who he says “completely changed my view of everything.” It was an extended sonnet of his sickly sentiment toward the twice-impeached wannabe dictator. You have to wonder how he managed to discretely wipe the drool from his mouth. The infatuation began after he was asked a straightforward that he never actually answered (video below)

Question: Who do you plan to support, Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis?
Carlson: Well, as you’ve noticed, my endorsement means a lot to the American people. […] Donald Trump completely changed my view of everything. Donald Trump is why I left Washington. And he did it in a really simple way by asking questions that no one around him could answer.

Questions like “Are stealth bombers really invisible?” And “How many birds do windmills kill?” And “Can you inject bleach to cure COVID?” And “Why don’t we nuke hurricanes?” And “Why shouldn’t I believe Vladimir Putin over U.S. intelligence agencies?” And “Who needs elections when you should just install me as President-for-Life?” Carlson actually provided his own examples of Trump’s ignorant queries…

“[Trump] showed up and said things like, ‘Why do have a border?’ Shut up! Or my personal favorite, he says, ‘What’s the point of NATO?’ I wouldn’t have known any of that until Trump showed up and started asking these kind of like simple autistic questions like ‘Why are we doing this that way?’ And sort of exposed the whole thing. And I’m so grateful to have seen that.”

So Carlson is bragging that Trump is his mentor who informs him about all of the important bullcrap that a good propagandist needs to know. Especially about ways to advance Putin’s agenda by weakening the United States and its alliances around the world. But then Carlson sinks into his flagrant fixation on the “animal joy” he derives from the object of his depraved affection…

“Also I should also add, since why not, I actually love Donald Trump as a guy. I think he’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever talked to in my life. I think he’s got this unbelievable life force to him. But talking to Trump is one of the great animal joys of life because he exudes this sort of animal joy. Trump is like totally charming and engaging, and fun, and interesting. And the last thing I’ll say about Trump that I really love is that his insights into people, which are always expressed in this like – Trump expresses in this way that’s like totally original.”

Get a friggen’ room, Tuckums. This is Olympic-grade sucking up. But it’s no wonder that Carlson is so enamored of Trump. He has a disturbing affinity for narcissistic totalitarians who seek to rule as tyrants. For instance, in addition to his consuming kinship with Putin, the strongman-smitten Carlson embraces Victor Orbán of Hungary. So it’s apparent that Carlson’s obsession with neo-fascism runs deeper than just his passion for Trump. It’s in his oh-so-pure, white supremacist blood.

OH-MY: Trump Unleashes Vile Threats in Tantrum Over Elon Musk’s ‘Twitter Files’ Farce (Part 6)

For the past couple of weeks Elon Musk has been hyping a series of pathetically shallow “Twitter Files” document dumps. He has characterized it as an “exposé” of Twitter’s prior management’s alleged cabal against aspiring tyrant and insurrection inciter, Donald Trump. Now episode 6 continues to expose only Musk’s own craven biases and dishonesty.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump Angry

Consistent with the previous episodes, the latest installment only manages to prove that prior content moderation decisions were actually responsible and that Twitter’s Trust and Safety team (who Musk recently fired) acted in good faith to protect their platform – and the nation – from the deliberate incitements to violence of Donald Trump and his “Big Lie” confederates.

RELATED: Elon Musk’s ‘Twitter Files’ Farce Fails Pitifully in Portraying Poor Trump as a Put Upon Victim

Teasing the release of the sixth batch of what were private internal communications, Musk tweeted “And soon, ladies & gentlemen, the coup de grâce,” followed the single word “KABOOM,” which ironically is an accurate descriptor of his latest bomb. It is hardly the “coup de grâce” that he is bragging about.

In the 45 tweets of Episode 6 Musk’s “correspondent” (aka puppet), Matt Taibbi, began by making a couple of wholly unsupported conclusions that were supposedly based on the messages he posted. However, there was nothing in those messages that affirmed his predetermined conclusions. He began…

3. Twitter’s contact with the FBI was constant and pervasive, as if it were a subsidiary.
4. Between January 2020 and November 2022, there were over 150 emails between the FBI and former Twitter Trust and Safety chief Yoel Roth.
5. Some are mundane […]
6. But a surprisingly high number are requests by the FBI for Twitter to take action on election misinformation.

What Taibbi is portraying as “constant and pervasive” is 150 emails sent in a period of three years. And many of those were, by Taibbi’s own account, “mundane.” So, doing the math, there were likely only one or two a month that were relevant. That’s a rather tortured definition of “pervasive.” Particularly when considering the fact that the FBI and other law enforcement agencies were rightfully concerned about disinformation being spread by hostile foreign entities. Consequently, they stayed in touch with the social media platforms that those entities were exploiting to keep them apprised of the situation. That is, in fact, their job.

Taibbi later grossly misrepresented an email from the FBI to Twitter, saying…

[13] “HELLO TWITTER CONTACTS”: The master-canine quality of the FBI’s relationship to Twitter comes through in this November 2022 email, in which “FBI San Francisco is notifying you” it wants action on four accounts:

Taibbi’s characterization of the FBI being the “master” of the “canine” Twitter staff was invented by Taibbi and not reflected in any actual message. What’s worse is how Taibbi deceitfully edited the FBI’s email to imply that they were demanding “action.” The unedited email actually reads…

“FBI San Francisco is notifying you of the below accounts which may potentially constitute violations of Twitter’s Terms and of Service for any action or inaction deemed appropriate within Twitter policy.”

So the FBI explicitly stated that the accounts they referred to Twitter only “potentially” violated Twitter’s rules, and then merely asked Twitter to take appropriate action, or none at all, as per Twitter’s policy. How is that by any stretch of the imagination a demand or reflective of a “master-canine” relationship? That is only reflective of Taibbi’s intent to deceive.

Taibbi closed his tweet storm with a Trumpian reference to the “deep state” as a “tangled collaboration of state agencies, private contractors.” Which is just another biased conclusion that is unsupported by his own “evidence.”

For his part, Trump went bonkers over the latest episode of the “Twitter Files” nothingburger. He posted on his floundering Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, that…

“This (the FBI’s wild and crazy relationship with Twitter) is absolutely a coordinated effort to change Election Results! Rachel Campos-Duffy…and it worked, but they got caught. This is why people protested in Washington. Our 2020 Presidential Election was Crooked, Rigged, and Stolen, and yet the Unselect Committee of Political Hacks & Thugs didn’t spend any time investigating this outrage!”

And that

“Our Country is SICK inside, very much like a person dying of Cancer. The Crooked FBI, the so-called Department of ‘Justice,’ and ‘Intelligence,’ all parts of the Democrat Party and System, is the Cancer. These Weaponized Thugs and Tyrants must be dealt with, or our once great and beautiful Country will die!!!”

Naturally, Trump is continuing to whine about having decisively lost the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden. But in more than two years and 60 court cases he has failed to provide a shred of evidence that the election was “rigged” or “stolen” from him. He nevertheless maligns the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection in his typically infantile and patently dangerous manner.

More worrisome is what exactly Trump means by demanding that members of the justice and intelligence communities, as well as Democrats, “must be dealt with”? Especially when combined with the warning that if they are not “our once great and beautiful Country will die!!!” It comes off as an unambiguous threat and/or a command to his StormTrumpers to take action.

This is why Trump must be held accountable for his crimes as expeditiously as possible. He is still inciting violence and fomenting an insurrection against the United States, whose Constitution he recently said should be “terminated.” The longer that accountability is delayed, the greater the risk.

Breaking on Fox News: Democrats Put Forward Bill to Bar Trump From Holding Public Office Again

The media has of late been abusing the word “Breaking” to describe anything that they happen to be reporting on at that moment, whether or not it is particularly important or has any significance to the public. Every story is being treated as if it’s a 9.0 earthquake, even if it’s just 9 year old eating cookies.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump, Fox News, White House

However, the “Breaking” descriptor in the headline of this article is entirely appropriate. Not because of the news about the Democratic legislation to bar Trump from holding office again, but because it is being covered by Fox News in manner that is relatively accurate and fair. That’s a breaking scoop on any day.

RELATED: HUH? Senior Fox News Misinformer, Tucker Carlson, Declares that ‘Misinformation Can Be True’

The article on the Fox News website (not on their cable network) reports that Democrats in the House of Representatives introduced legislation that would bar Donald Trump from reoccupying the White House. According to Fox News…

“Rep. David Cicilline, D-R.I., one of the House Democrats who led the second impeachment effort against Trump, introduced legislation Thursday with 40 Democratic co-sponsors that would invoke Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to prevent Trump from returning to the White House, or holding any other office.

“The amendment states, ‘No person shall … hold any office, civil or military, under the United States … who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States … to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.'”

Fox News goes on to note that the amendment was “adopted in the 1860s to prevent former Confederates from occupying positions in the federal government after the Civil War,” and that Democrats believe that “it should be applied to Trump, who they allege incited an insurrection against the United States on Jan. 6, 2021.” All of which is true. Fox quotes Cicilline saying that…

“Donald Trump very clearly engaged in an insurrection on January 6, 2021 with the intention of overturning the lawful and fair results of the 2020 election. You don’t get to lead a government you tried to destroy.”

This is a surprisingly unbiased account of the facts. And that justifies it being regarded as a “breaking” news story. In the past Fox News would have framed it as “radical liberal Democrats in Congress pervert the Constitution to stifle Trump!”

It’s likely that Fox News is softening their editorial adulation of Trump in favor of Trump-wannabe, Ron DeSantis. Also, in the wake of the midterm election last month, wherein his endorsed candidates suffered historic losses, Fox may be looking for a more electorally viable alternative to this year’s biggest loser.

Ever since the GOP’s midterm debacle, Trump seems to have descended into an abyss of depression as he hunkers down in his Mar-a-Lago bunker. That has led to behavior that can only be described as bizarre and desperate. Including…

Look for Fox News to continue winding down their fixation on Trump, but not their ultra-rightist agenda and propaganda. Simultaneously, look for Trump to become ever more maniacal and mentally unstable as his electoral and legal tribulations mount. Which will accelerate Fox’s dissociation, Trump’s animosity toward Fox, and the unstoppable downward spiral. In other words … Good times ahead!

Trump’s Real ‘MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT’ Has Nothing to do with His Pathetic Trading Cards Scam

On Wednesday night Donald Trump posted a comment on his floundering Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, teasing a “MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT” coming on Thursday. The post declared that “America needs a superhero,” and included a picture of him as a Bizarro World cartoon crusader.

Trump Trading Cards

Trump’s fantasies of himself notwithstanding, his big reveal turned out to be even more pathetic than anyone could have imagined. It was nothing more than another opportunity to pick the pockets of his glassy-eyed cult disciples with a sham offering of “Trump Trading Cards” at $99.00 a pop. But they are not even real cards, they are just digital NFT images. He starred in his own telemarketing ad to hawk his latest sucker bait…

“Hello everyone, this is Donald Trump. Hopefully your favorite president of all time. Better than Lincoln, better than Washington, with an important announcement to make.”

Whereupon Trump declared that he is selling NFTs – digital trading cards that “feature some of the really incredible artwork pertaining to my life and my career. It’s been very exciting.” He further revealed that any purchase enters the buyer into a contest with “prizes” (?) like dinner with Trump, who regards himself as something just short of a messiah. However, it’s notable that these cards are produced by a third party that is not owned, managed or controlled by Trump. He is simply licensing his name and likeness in order to fleece his flock. Which is so like Trump…

That said, there was another announcement posted on his website shortly after the trading cards pitch. And it actually has more of the “majorness” that he attributed to the digital card con. In a lengthy video, Trump laid out his plan to “shatter the left-wing censorship regime.” And he would do it by imposing his own totalitarian control of free speech. What follows are annotated excerpts of his uncomfortably high-decibel harangue. He began…

“If we don’t have free speech, then we just don’t have a free country. It’s as simple as that. […] That’s why today I’m announcing my plan to shatter the left-wing censorship regime and to reclaim the right to free speech for all Americans..”

Never mind that the only free speech deniers in American politics are Trump’s Republicans. They have literally banned books in schools and libraries, and have sought to silence critics of Trump in their ultra-biased MAGA media. And notice that he doesn’t provide a single example of alleged censorship by the fearsome left-wing regime. Undeterred by reality, Trump continued…

“In recent weeks, bombshell reports have confirmed that a sinister group of deep state bureaucrats, silicon tyrants, left-wing activists, and depraved corporate news media have been conspiring to manipulate and silence the American people. They have collaborated to suppress vital information on everything from elections to public health. The censorship cartel must be dismantled and destroyed and it must happen immediately.”

What Trump is referring to here is the wholly manufactured and bogus “Twitter Files” “scandal” that was orchestrated by Elon Musk and purported to expose left-wing bias by Twitter when it suspended Trump’s account. After five data dumps, Musk and his cohorts failed utterly to achieve their goal of smearing the left. In fact, they actually proved that Twitter’s Trust and Safety team (who Musk recently fired) was exceedingly fair and conscientious in their deliberations and decision making.

Then Trump gets to the meat of his whining with the articulation of his five-point plan…

First, within hours of my inauguration, I will sign an executive order banning any federal department or agency from colluding with any organization, business, or person to censor, limit, categorize or impede the lawful speech of American citizens. I will then ban federal money from being used to label domestic speech as mis- or disinformation.”

Who wants to tell Trump that the federal government is already prohibited from “imped[ing] the lawful speech of American citizens?” Trump is merely declaring his intention to issue an executive order that essentially repeats the Constitution’s First Amendment. Except, that is, for the last part where he proposes to punish those who exercise their free speech by alerting citizens to the dangers of mis- and disinformation. Trump, a major supplier of disinformation, wants to make sure he can keep on doing that. Moving on…

Second, I will order the Department of Justice to investigate all parties involved in the new online censorship regime, which is destructive and terrible, and to aggressively prosecute any and all crimes identified. These include possible violations of federal civil rights law, campaign finance law, federal election law, securities law, and anti-trust laws, the Hatch Act, and a host of other criminal, civil, regulatory, and constitutional offenses.”

Here Trump is threatening to force the Justice Department to – uphold existing laws? Yep. But let’s face it, when Trump makes this sort of threat, he intends that it be directed exclusively at his enemies. He and his administration are more prone to violating those laws, but he never bothered to hold any of those who violated them accountable when he occupied the White House. And there’s more…

Third, upon my inauguration as president, I will ask Congress to send a bill to my desk revising section 230 to get big online platforms out of the censorship business. From now on digital platforms should only qualify for immunity protection under section 230 if they meet high standards of neutrality, transparency, fairness, and non-discrimination. We should require these platforms to increase their efforts to take down unlawful content such as child exploitation and promoting terrorism, while dramatically curtailing their power to arbitrarily restrict lawful speech.

First of all, Trump has no idea what Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act is or does. While there is room to refine it, it is basically a protection so that online services aren’t held accountable for comments made by the public. Without it platforms like Twitter and Facebook couldn’t allow people to post comments at all.

Furthermore, Trump’s idea that platforms should have to “meet high standards of neutrality, transparency, fairness, and non-discrimination,” is an imposition on their free speech rights, as well as posing difficult questions about who sets those standards. The government? Trump wants to force private companies to allow all “legal” comments, even if they are racist, hate speech, or sufficiently vague incitements to violence. And he’s still not through…

Fourth, we need to break up the entire toxic censorship industry that has arisen under the false guise of tackling so-called mis- and disinformation.”

In other words, Trump wants to prohibit private Internet platforms from refusing to post purposefully false information that has the potential to cause real harm. He wants fake COVID cures and anti-vaccine propaganda to be readily available. He wants lies about election fraud to stir up civil unrest. He even explicitly brought up his own fixation with phony election fraud saying that “Once you lose those elections … you no longer have a country.” Which brings us to his fifth point…

Fifth, the time has finally come for congress to pass a Digital Bill of Rights. This should include a right to digital due process. In other words, government officials should need a court order to take down online content, not send information requests such as the FBI was sending to Twitter.” […] In addition, all users over the age of 18 should have the right to opt-out of content moderation and curation entirely, and receive an unmanipulated stream of information, if they so choose.”

To be clear, Trump is proposing the first law that would allow government – with a court order – to censor content, which would be unconstitutional. Remember, this is his plan for free speech and to end censorship. And while the FBI did inform Twitter about certain content that was false (and so did Trump and the GOP), they never had the right to force it to be removed. That’s Trump’s idea. And so is his suggestion that adults can “opt-out of content moderation,” effectively forcing private Internet platforms to post content that they regard as harmful, offensive, or otherwise contrary to their standards. Then Trump closed saying…

“The fight for free speech is a matter of victory or death for America and for the survival of Western civilization itself. When I am president, this whole rotten system of censorship and information control will be ripped out of the system at large. There won’t be anything left. By restoring free speech we will begin to reclaim our democracy and save our nation.”

The problem with Trump’s initiative is that it produces the polar opposite of what he claims is his intention. It would permit censorship, allow the government to force private businesses to post content they disapprove of, and shred the First Amendment. Which is all pretty much precisely what is expected of an aspiring authoritarian tyrant like Trump who has openly advocated banning websites he doesn’t like, such as Twitter and Facebook. America would be better off if his “major announcements” were all about trading cards and other snake oil ventures.

Trump Sues the Pulitzer Prize Board for Honoring Accurate Stories of His Russian Collusion

Last month Donald Trump announced that he is running for the Republican Party’s nomination for president in 2024. Since then a couple of dozen of his endorsed candidates lost their races, he has been convicted of tax fraud, he lashed out hysterically against the special counsel probing his criminal activities, and he dined with neo-Nazis at Mar-a-Lago.

No one, therefore, should be surprised that Trump’s poll ratings have cratered and he is exhibiting signs of severe depression and desperation. Consequently he is resorting to bizarre antics such as calling for the termination of the Constitution.

Now Trump has filed a lawsuit against the Pulitzer Prize Board that is profoundly frivolous. He is finally fulfilling a promise he made two months ago to file this suit in two weeks. Now he’s boasting about it on his floundering Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, with a link to an article on Fox News. Fox reported that…

“Former President Trump filed a defamation lawsuit on Tuesday against the Pulitzer Prize Board over the 2018 National Reporting prizes given to The New York Times and Washington Post for coverage of ‘now-debunked theory’ of alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.”

Of course, the allegations of Trump’s unsavory connections to Russia were not only never “debunked,” they have been affirmed repeatedly. Fox went on to quote from Trump’s filing saying that…

“The complaint made a series of points indicating why it feels the Pulitzer Prize-winning stories are unworthy of the honor, including Special Counsel Robert Mueller failing to find evidence of collusion.” [and that] At the time of publication, nearly every branch and agency of the federal government had examined this issue and reached the same conclusion: there was no conspiracy or cooperation between President Trump or the Trump Campaign and Russia.”

All of that is patently false. Mueller explicitly stated in his report that Trump was not exonerated. What’s more, he told the House Intelligence Committee that Trump and his campaign “welcomed and encouraged” Russian interference, and that there was sufficient evidence to indict Trump. A Republican-led Senate Intelligence panel found that Russia had an extensive program aimed at disseminating disinformation intended to benefit Trump and to harm Hillary Clinton. Even Vladimir Putin admitted, with Trump standing right next to him, that he wanted Trump to win and had helped him do so. Much of these sordid associations were catalogued in the book Russian Roulette: The Inside Story of Putin’s War on America and the Election of Donald Trump, by Michael Isikoff and David Corn.

The most likely outcome for this lawsuit is a quick dismissal by the court. The judge will surely notice that Trump isn’t even suing the news outlets that published the stories that won the Pulitzers. He’s suing the Pulitzer Board for awarding the prizes. Which they have every right to do. They even had an independent review conducted after receiving a demand from Trump to rescind the awards. That review found that “no passages or headlines, contentions or assertions in any of the winning submissions were discredited by facts that emerged subsequent to the conferral of the prizes.”

Look for Trump to continue to descend into an abyss of anxiety and madness as the prospects for his being held to account legally come closer to fruition. One of the signs of that descent could be revealed soon. Trump also posted a comment Wednesday that said cryptically that “AMERICA NEEDS A SUPERHERO! I will be making a MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT tomorrow. Thank you!” America is anxiously awaiting this announcement with popcorn at the ready.

UPDATE: Trump’s “Major Announcement” turns out to be just another grift. And a hysterically pitiful one: “MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT! My official Donald Trump Digital Trading Card collection is here! These limited edition cards feature amazing ART of my Life & Career! […] GET YOUR CARDS NOW! Only $99 each!” His glassy-eyed cult disciples should snap these up. Who wouldn’t want one of these?

Marjorie Taylor Greene: The GOP Will Govern Like the Mafia’s 5 Families in ‘The Godfather’

December, being the month of giving, behooves us all to express our gratitude for the gifts that crackpot Republicans provide due to their inbred asininity. While this sort of generosity is a year-round endeavor for them, there seems to be an uptick during the year end holiday season.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, Gun

So let us give thanks today to Marjorie Taylor Greene. On Tuesday morning she visited with her coup-plotting cohort, Steve Bannon, to discuss the changing control of Congress next year. It’s an issue that she has given a great deal of thought to. For the most part her thoughts have been of totalitarian domination. It’s a theme that the GOP has been fixated on, and one that Greene has personanlly taken to heart.

RELATED: Fascista Marjorie Taylor Greene: If I was Speaker of the House I Would Reign with an Iron Fist

During Greene’s banter with Bannon, she revealed the inside dope on the Republican Party’s plans now that they have a razor thin majority in the House of Representatives. Previously they proposed an initiative that consisted mainly of talking points that were stale when they were first proposed nearly thirty years ago by Newt Gingrich. Even Tucker Carlson of Fox News found it to be a hollow farce.

They also promised a flurry of revenge probes, staging phony investigations of everything from Hunter Biden’s stolen laptop, to the evil machinations of Dr. Fauci. But Greene had something even more profound in mind…

“We’ve been doing – and it’s really interesting – people are arguing, people are clashing, people are also starting to agree, and there’s a meeting that’s happening every week, and we meet in Kevin McCarthy’s office, and it’s called the “Five Families.” And the Five Families – you know my reference – are parts of our conference. All the different parts. And we are coming together and having discussions on how we are going to govern in the majority. And it’s literally my favorite meeting.”

So Greene is analogizing the Republican Party to the Mafia and the fragile coordination between various hostile factions of it. How appropriate that she associates the GOP with a crumbling crime syndicate. Bannon couldn’t help but notice that Greene’s analogy also spelled trouble for Republicans, saying that “I hope that those meetings turn out better than the Five Families meetings in ‘The Godfather.’ They went to war.”

The sour note in this soap opera is that Greene’s fantasy puts Kevin McCarthy in Marlon Brando’s role of Don Corleone. That stretches the willingness to believe a bit too far. However, Greene is at least being consistent with her affinity for violence and gun play. She recently told the crowd at a QAnon affair that the January 6th insurrection wasn’t an insurrection at all, and that “if Steve Bannon and I had organized that, we would have won. Not to mention that it would have been armed.”

So Greene thinks that the problem with the Trump-incited riots in Washington, D.C., aimed at undermining democracy, was that there weren’t enough guns. And that is why she is the new face of the Trumpian Republican Party.

Greene is already exerting her control over McCarthy, who needs her vote to become Speaker. He knows that the narrow margin of the GOP majority, and his unpopularity among his own caucus, means he has to kowtow to screwballs like Greene. And he isn’t the only one who knows this. Democrats are watching with a mix of glee and horror…
