CNN’s Jim Acosta Comforts the Fox News Deplorables: The Circus is Hiring Clowns

The Trump Cult is preparing to greet Dear Leader this evening at his first rally since he was evicted from the White House by a significant majority of the American people. Donald Trump’s devotees are all atwitter (in more ways than one) in anticipation of witnessing another tediously repetitive harangue about the “fake” news, the “crooked” Democrats and, as always, how horribly he’s been mistreated by everyone.

Donald Trump, Pennywise

How Trump’s disciples tolerate his relentless whining is a mystery. But not only do they tolerate it, they admire it. Their cognitive processes are so defective that they soak up his fear and self pity and disgorge it as some twisted form of courage. They are primed for an extravaganza that promises to fulfill their most ardent wet dreams.

However, what Trump delivers is the type of “entertainment” one would expect to behold from under the Big Top. It’s all pomp and circus stance, complete with a soundtrack by the Village People.

CNN’s Jim Acosta made the same observation in a commentary that addressed some of the recent rhetorical aberrations of Fox News cretins Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham. They both attacked the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark Milley, for having defended the military’s commitment to diversity and equity. Carlson, a coward who never served, called Milley “stupid” and “a pig.” Ingraham proposed defunding the Pentagon, leaving America defenseless.

“The Trump circus is back on tour again,” Acosta began. And “the former president is certain to roll out a clown car full of lies to the outrage of supporters.” Acosta then built up to a climax that roasted Carlson and Ingraham in epic fashion (video below):

“Pvt. Ingraham, Pvt. Carlson, what is your major malfunction? The General seems to have touched a nerve. Here is what is so threatening about Trumpism. It’s not just the ‘Big Lies.’ It’s about pitting one set of Americans against another. Over the election, over Critical Race Theory, or whatever the next unserious outrage theory that comes out of Fox News or Mar-a-Lago.

“If we stop fighting each other, and start embracing the truth, these guys over here, they’re gonna run out of things to talk about. And maybe even run out of money too. But hey, they could run off and join the circus. I hear they’re hiring clowns.”

The problem with Acosta’s assessment isn’t that he’s wrong. It’s that “fighting each other” isn’t merely collateral residue of Fox’s media strategy. It’s the preplanned intention. They are determined to create as much division and irrational hatred as possible. And they are having some limited success. A recent poll shows that 30% of Republicans believe that Trump is likely to be reinstated to the presidency this year, a constitutional impossibility. That’s far from a majority, but still a disturbing minority of acutely disturbed cultists.

Hopefully, Trump’s disciples will abandon their delusions in much the same way that children learn that the circus is a fantasy world created to provide some comedy and excitement to a comparatively staid existence. But expecting Trump’s already adult cult followers to grow up may be too much to hope for. Especially while he’s still peddling his shitshow as the “The greatest Witch Hunt in US history.”

Sniveling Trust Fund Baby Tucker Carlson Calls Joint Chiefs Chairman a Stupid Pig

Did you think you’d heard it all? After Donald Trump tried to prosecute Saturday Night Live for mocking him; or that he trusts Vladimir Putin more than his fellow Americans; or that his Capitol insurrectionists posed zero threat? Well, Tucker Carlson of Fox News wasn’t about to be outdone.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, QAnon

The Fox Network’s Senior White Nationalist has been on a streak lately. Just last week he unfurled a bizarre conspiracy theory that the FBI had orchestrated the January 6th riots in Washington, D.C. But now he’s going after the military, specifically, General Mark Milley, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (video below):

“Mark Milley is the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He didn’t get that job because he’s brilliant or because he’s brave or because the people who know him respect him. He is not and they definitely don’t. Milley got the job because he is obsequious. He knows who to suck up to, and he’s more than happy to do it. Feed him a script and he will read it. Here’s Milley yesterday, the man in charge of this nation’s weapons, explaining his working to understand a concept called “white rage.”

Whereupon, Carlson ran a video clip of Gen. Milley explaining the importance of being informed and conscious of the diversity in the ranks and the nation. Carlson dismissed it all as an attack on “white rage,” Something that, for personal reasons, Carlson wasn’t going to stand for. Milley said that…

“I do think it’s important for those of us in uniform to be open minded and be widely read. The United States Military Academy is a university. And it is important that we train and we understand. And I want to understand white rage. And I’m white, and I want to understand it. So what is it that cause thousands of people to assault this building and try to overturn the Constitution of the United States of America? What caused that?”

For the record, Gen. Milley served in combat in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He holds advanced degrees from Princeton, Columbia, and the Naval War College. He earned the respect of his colleagues as he was promoted through the ranks over a 30 year career to his current role as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Meanwhile, Tucker Carlson is a trust fund baby who never served, and the heir to a frozen TV dinner fortune, who was fired from three television networks (CNN, PBS, and MSNBC) due to low ratings, before landing on Fox News where his brand of racist hate-speech finally succeeded because “he knows who to suck up to, and he’s more than happy to do it.” Carlson’s rancid rant continued…

“Notice he never defines white rage. And we should know what it is. What is white rage? Well, like drapetomania, it’s one of those diseases that only affect people with certain melanin levels. It’s a race-specific illness. […] So Mark Milley reads Mao to understand Maoism, he reads communists to understand communism. But, interestingly, he doesn’t read white supremacists to understand white supremacy. Why not? Go to the source.”

If Carlson really wants to know what white rage is, all he has to do is watch his program for a few minutes. In the comment above he literally exhorts his audience to read white supremacist literature. Carlson is using his show to actively recruit for his Ku Klux cause.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that it took Milley’s defense of the Critical Race Theory (CRT) to trigger Carlson and Fox News to descend to the point where they are attacking the military. CRT is an academic study defined as an “attempt to understand how victims of systemic racism are affected by cultural perceptions of race.” But Carlson and Fox News aren’t about to permit that sort of understanding to be taught.

Carlson wasn’t alone in his assault on Milley. Fox’s Laura Ingraham joined in to propose defunding the military because of its attempts “to weed out so-called ‘extremists,’ which just means conservative evangelicals as far as I can tell,” It’s funny how any time someone mentions extremists or racists or traitors, right-wingers like Ingraham immediately assume that they are the subject of the discussion.

Not willing to be left out (of anything, ever), Trump also weighed in. During an interview on Newsmax Thursday evening, Trump, a five-time draft dodger, complained about Milley saying that “I watched his statement, it was pathetic!” That’s Trump’s way saying “Thanks for your service.”

It’s hard to imagine how Fox News can continue to provide a platform for the sort of rhetorical excrement that is the hallmark of Carlson’s program. Like Lou Dobbs before him, Carlson has driven away virtually all of his major advertisers, leaving just the MyPillow guy and a collection of reverse mortgage lenders and personal injury lawyers.

Unlike Dobbs, Carlson’s Anti-American Hour of Hate is still on the air. Which means that the Murdoch’s must be so enamored of Carlson that they don’t even care that they’re losing money. And that tells you all you need to know about Fox News.

Tucker Carlson Exposed as an Anonymous Source Who Sucks Up to the Media He Hates

For years there has been a debate about whether the hacks on Fox News actually believe the lies they tell every day. Some people think they are just spreading disinformation because it advances their right-wing agenda. Others say they are just in it for the money. For the Murdoch family that runs Fox News there’s no doubt that it’s both. But the “entertainers” on the air could swing either way.

Tucker Carlson Fox News

However, a new report in the New York Times sheds some light on one of Fox’s primetime propagandists. Their Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson, has emerged as the network’s foremost purveyor of unadulterated bullpucky. His strident tirades have run the gamut of conspiracy crackpottery from paranoid delusions that COVID vaccines don’t work and “they” aren’t telling you, to reckless accusations that the FBI orchestrated Trump’s Capitol Hill insurrection.

But the common thread that weaves through virtually every screwball notion Carlson disgorges is that the media is behind a coordinated plot to deceive innocent Americans by way of deliberate, manufactured falsehoods. To be fair, if he’s talking about Fox News, he’s 100% right. But suffice to say that he’s aiming his baseless invective everywhere else. And the report in the Times reveals that Carlson has been working both sides of the battle:

“Tucker Carlson of Fox News is a ‘go-to source’ for the US political media he claims to ‘hate’ and has called ‘cowards’ and ‘cringing animals not worthy of respect’ – according to a columnist for the New York Times.”

“Ben Smith, a former editor-in-chief of BuzzFeed News, outed Carlson as ‘the go-to guy for sometimes-unflattering stories about Donald J Trump and for coverage of the internal politics of Fox News (not to mention stories about Mr Carlson himself)’.”

It’s good to know that while Carlson is mouthing off about how evil the establishment media is, he is simultaneously feeding them gossip behind the scenes. Never mind that most of what Carlson would have to divulge is probably untrue. After all, the lawyers for Fox News defended him (successfully) in a defamation suit by insisting that ‘no reasonable person” would believe anything he says.

So what’s in it for Carlson? Aside from the high he gets from pretending that he’s important and people care what he has to say, he also gets to build a shield against potential criticism. The Times reports that one of the news publications that Carlson spills to explained that “If you open yourself up as a resource to mainstream media reporters, you don’t even have to ask them to go soft on you.” Which makes sense. Journalists aren’t in the habit of burning their sources.

Based on his past behavior, it isn’t surprising that Carlson would be so flagrantly two-faced as he lambastes the press at every opportunity. It’s fair to assume that he is likely dishing dirt about his colleagues from one side of his crooked mouth, while sucking up to his handlers for gentle treatment from the other. So Carlson is both a backstabber and a self-serving coward. Who would have thought it?

Fox News Ignores Questions About Tucker Carlson’s Crackpot FBI Conspiracy Theory

It’s standard operating procedure for Fox News to stonewall any attempt to get them to validate the dystopian fantasies that they pass off as “news.” They do that for two reasons: 1) They can’t validate it. And 2) They don’t want to. Their fictionalized reporting is a deliberate decision on their part to construct a version of unreality that advances their political agenda.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Bullshit Factory

Recently Fox’s Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson, contributed to his litany of lies with what may be his most perverse and dangerous diatribe to date. He pontificated tediously about his preposterous, and utterly dishonest, conspiracy theory that the FBI actually participated in and organized the January 6th riots on Capitol Hill by Trump’s insurrectionists. His half-baked (at best) theory asserted that the existence of “unindicted co-conspirators” translated to FBI operatives. This is some truly ripe bull manure. For one thing, the FBI would never characterize their own people as conspirators. More likely they are suspects who are cooperating with law enforcement. But Carlson would never allow reason or reality to interfere with his fractured fairy tales.

After being ridiculed by most credible journalists, and much of the Internet, Carlson stubbornly doubled down on his wankery. And he succeeded in fertilizing the wingnut mediasphere with his ravings. He even got some Republican lawmakers to parrot his mind-numbing nonsense, including (of course) Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-QAnon), and Matt Gaetz (R-Pedophile). Which prompted CNN’s Brian Stelter to pose some basic journalism questions to Fox News…

“Did anyone vet Carlson’s reporting? Did the Fox newsroom go through his reporting? Did they examine it ahead of time? Why haven’t they followed up on it since? Carlson alleged this explosive story. He’s claiming this is an incredible bombshell. Where is the Fox newsroom? Why isn’t Special Report with Bret Baier covering this every day? Why isn’t Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace covering this incredible claim right now?

“We know why, right? Because Carlson is out there on his own. Carlson Island. He does own an island. He’s out there on his own, claiming to be telling the truth to viewers. And the defense from Fox is that it’s an opinion show and everyone knows it’s an opinion show. But it looks like news, it smells like news, and his fans think it’s news. They trust Tucker more than they trust real reports.”

Ironically, Carlson is notorious for asking “questions” that are actually thinly disguised accusations. But he’s too cowardly to answer any himself. And there is no way that Fox News will do anything that resembles responsible vetting of this malarkey. Not only is it unverifiable due to being completely contrived, but Fox wants the disinformation to persist and to spread.

What Fox News sometimes refer to as their “news side” programs won’t fact-check Carlson because they’re afraid of him. They know that his disciples will viciously attack them (rhetorically and potentially physically) if they dare to correct their Prophet of Prevarication.

Remember, Fox News lawyers actually defended Carlson in a defamation case (successfully) by asserting that Carlson…

“…cannot be understood to have been stating facts, [and that] given Mr. Carlson’s reputation, any reasonable viewer ‘arrive[s] with an appropriate amount of skepticism’ about the statements he makes.”

Let that sink in. The argument by the lawyers that are on Carlson’s side is that no reasonable person would buy his BS. In other words, only idiots would believe that anything Carlson says is true. Which is convenient because idiots make up the majority of his viewers.

UPDATE: CNN’s Jim Acosta, who recently rebranded Fox News as the Bullshit Factory, has named Tucker Carlson the BS Factory Employee of the Month:

Tucker Carlson Insanely Accuses the FBI of Orchestrating Trump’s Capitol Insurrection

Three weeks ago, Republicans in Congress blocked the formation of a bipartisan committee to investigate the circumstances that led to Donald Trump’s Capitol Hill insurrection. They did this despite the fact that the they themselves were the targets of violent insurrectionists.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, QAnon

Never mind that they also did it to protect themselves and Trump from the disclosure that they were complicit in the deadly riots. And forget about their gaslighting allegations that the rioters were really members of the fictional Antifa group disguised as Trump supporters, which the investigation could have looked into. The GOP was too afraid of what the probe would reveal to allow it to proceed.

Meanwhile, Fox News has done it’s best to muddy the waters around the atrocities that took place on January 6th. And on Tuesday Fox’s Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson, turned the crazy up to eleven. Carlson began his tirade with a story about a Black murder suspect who allegedly said that he was targeting white people. Which is just the sort of rare story that bigots like Carlson love to bring up, even though they they never talk about the much more common incidence of white racist hate crimes.

Carlson lashed out at Attorney General Merrick Garland, who he called “thoroughly craven.” He claimed that Garland said that “we must now use law enforcement and military force to arrest, imprison, and otherwise crush anyone who leads opposition to Joe Biden’s government.” Which, of course, Garland never came anywhere close to saying.

But this was just a teaser for his main subject that had nothing to do with his intro. Instead, he launched into a bizarre series of totally unfounded accusations that the FBI had orchestrated the insurrection (video below). There’s actually more evidence that the Trump White House was behind it. Ignoring reality, Carlson said that…

“We know the government is hiding the identity of many law enforcement officers who were present at the capitol on January 6 […and that…] According to the government’s own court filings, those law enforcement officers participated in the riot. Sometimes in violent ways. We know that because […] some people who participated in the riot haven’t been charged. Look at the documents. The government calls these people “unindicted co-conspirators.” What does that mean? It means that in potentially every case, they’re FBI operatives.”

HUH? Carlson is connecting dots in his warped imagination. First of all, there are no government court filings that say that “law enforcement officers participated in the riot.” But Carlson “knows” because of the existence of “unindicted co-conspirators,” who, for some unexplained reason, must be FBI operatives.

Carlson mistakenly believes that two people identified only as “unindicted co-conspirators” were, by some deranged logic, “almost certainly working for the FBI.” This is astonishingly stupid, even for Carlson and Fox News. The government isn’t in the habit of tagging their own operatives as unindicted co-conspirators. Also, that designation is most often used when suspects are cooperating with law enforcement, or when the case is still under investigation.

Carlson repeatedly, and falsely, asserts that government documents admit their participation in the insurrection. There are no such documents. What’s more, Carlson lied that “the FBI director admitted the bureau is infiltrating as many dissident groups as it possibly could.” Which the FBI director actually never said. According to Carlson himself, Director Wray only said that “Any time there is an attack […] we are focused very, very hard on how could we get better sources, better information, better analysis” to prevent it from happening again.

Carlson somehow stretched that innocuous statement into the wildly left field charge that the government was “paying people to organize a violent action.” And Carlson went on to reprise the crackpot conspiracy theory that the FBI was also complicit in the 9/11 attacks, saying that “They’re using the same tactics.”

It’s endlessly fascinating how the ridiculous right can reinterpret their own dishonest propaganda. They have claimed that the Capitol Hill insurrectionists were actually Antifa or Black Lives Matter. They have also claimed that the insurrectionists weren’t rioters at all, but just ordinary tourists. Trump said that they “posed zero threat.” So long as you don’t count the five dead, and dozens of injured, Capitol police. Carlson himself characterized the insurrectionists as peaceful protesters.

These are all positions that they share with Vladimir Putin. And now they claim that the whole affair was an FBI operation. They really need to make up their lying minds. Or maybe not. After all, Fox News has (successfully) argued in court that, given his reputation, “no reasonable person” would believe his bullpucky. Unfortunately, that doesn’t make him less dangerous or his goals, and those of Fox News, less onerous.

Fox News Vigilantes, Lara Trump and ‘Judge’ Pirro, Issue Call to ‘Arm Up’ to Shoot Migrants

There is a harrowing pattern of advocating violence that is indelibly integrated into the modern, Donald Trump diseased, Republican Party. It was evident in Trump’s rhetoric that glorified hostility toward his critics at his his cult rallies. It was inbred in his attacks on Democrats and the press as “the enemy.” And it recently manifested horribly at his Capitol Hill Insurrection.

Fox News, Lara Trump

As if all of that weren’t bad enough, now his progeny is joining in the reckless call for innocent blood. And Fox News is, of course, the bullhorn for this abhorrent talk. On Saturday’s episode of Justice with “Judge” Pirro, her guest was Eric Trump’s wife, and Fox News contributor, Lara Trump. The discussion was filled with the typical animus of the televised Hate Channel. However, it devolved into a vile assault on the already troubled community of migrants. And then Lara Trump dug even deeper…

“I don’t know what to tell people that live on the Southern border. I guess they better arm up and get guns and be ready, and maybe they’re gonna have to start taking matters into their own hands.”

Lara Trump, with the assistance of Fox News, is now openly advocating murder and vigilantism. The victims of Trump’s dangerous and heartless proposal would be refugees from Central American countries fleeing violence and poverty. Most of them are women and children. What’s more, how would the untrained, fear-driven vigilantes know the difference between refugees and Latinx U.S. citizens? They wouldn’t know or care. Its a recipe for more unspeakable savagery and grief.

This is the sort of racist hate mongering that produced that mass murder of 22 mostly Latinx shoppers at a Walmart in El Paso in 2019. The shooter confessed to “targeting Mexicans,” and his writings mirrored the xenophobic rhetoric of Donald Trump, Lara’s bigoted father-in-law.

Just prior to Lara Trump’s promotion of domestic terrorism, Pirro complained about unverified reports that migrants damaged fences and left garbage. Even if true, those are hardly capital offenses. Trump herself acknowledged that the migrants were predominantly children.

After her heinous comments, Pirro simply changed the subject with no pushback whatsoever on Trump’s call to shoot unarmed refugees. And for good measure, both of them disparaged Vice-President Kamala Harris, who just returned from a diplomatic mission to the region. Their catty assertion that she was unqualified for the job is ludicrous. Harris was the Attorney General and senator of the largest state in the country, California, which is also a border state.

No one should be surprised by these remarks. Fox News is notoriously drenched in xenophobic hate-speech. Their Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson, has attacked immigrants repeatedly. And he unabashedly promotes the racist “white replacement theory” that fear mongers about people of color being brought into the U.S. to “pack the electorate” against the soon to be minority whites. So the Piroo/Trump tirade is just the next sickening step in the Fox News/Republican battle plan.

Vladimir Putin Joins Trump and Fox News to Defend the Capitol Insurrectionists

From the earliest days of Donald Trump’s entry into presidential politics, he was closely associated with Vladimir Putin and Russia. He had financial dealings prior to announcing his candidacy. He famously, and publicly, begged Russia to hack Hillary Clinton’s emails. And his collusion, or at least knowing tolerance of, Russia aiding his campaign was well documented.

Fox News, Vladimir Putin

Apparently the relationship between Putin and Trump is still in tact.. On Friday Putin spoke at an economic forum in St. Petersburg. He discussed a range of topics including the upcoming summit with President Biden. It’s a summit for which Sean Hannity of Fox News has already begun trying to sabotage Biden. During Putin’s remarks he also addressed the Capitol Hill riots staged by Trump insurrectionists. Reuters reports that…

“[Putin] spoke critically of the U.S. response to the Capitol attack, which took place as Congress prepared to certify that Biden had defeated then President Donald Trump in the November election.

‘They weren’t just a crowd of robbers and rioters. Those people had come with political demands,’ he said.

“Putin pointed out that the heavy charges against hundreds of participants in the attack were filed even as the U.S. and its allies strongly criticized Belarus’ crackdown on anti-government protests.”

Really? Putin is apparently getting his talking points straight from Trump, Fox News, and/or the Republican Party. His position is identical to that of Trump who told Fox News that the rioters posed “zero threat” as they strolled through the Capitol “hugging and kissing the police.” Putin agrees with Republicans like Sen. Ron Johnson and Rep. Paul Gosar, who insist that the January 6th riots were entirely peaceful and comprised of ordinary tourists. And Putin could sit in for Tucker Carlson, who dishonestly portrayed the rioters as decent protesters.

The absurdity of Putin’s remarks extend beyond the obvious lies casting Trump’s violent thugs as concerned citizens. There is also the flagrant hypocrisy considering Putin’s record of disregard for civil liberties and suppression of dissidents. A prominent Putin critic, Alexei Navalny, recently survived an assassination attempt by poison, and he is currently in prison. When Navalny’s supporters took to the the streets in protest, Putin had them rounded up and jailed by the thousands. He is not exactly an authoritative voice on these matters.

Nevertheless, Putin is now aligned with Trump and Fox News in spreading the same propaganda about January 6th. It’s a confederacy of like-minded totalitarians, all committed to the same brand of lies. And Putin’s participation only clarifies just how destructive and anti-American the Trump/Fox News cabal has been all along.

Tucker Carlson: Proof of Vaccination and Jim Crow Laws are Exactly the Same Thing

The ability of Fox News hacks to conflate wildly dissimilar subjects is pretty astonishing. And no one is more adept at this than Fox’s Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson. His arguments on any subject are generally devoid of reason and crammed with racial animus. But on his Wednesday evening Hour of Hate he may have outdone himself.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Klan

Carlson has been an ardent opponent of COVID-19 vaccinations for months. He railed against them as fake and ineffective. He spread conspiracy theories asserting that they don’t work and “they” aren’t telling you. He even ordered his dimwitted viewers to harass mask wearers and file false police reports.

Now Carlson is combining his two favorite tirades: Anti-vaccine hysteria and racism (video below). The segment featured a chyron that read conspiratorially, “This is About Finding Out Who Dissents.” And in a manically obtuse bit of blathering, Carlson bellowed that…

“Everybody agrees that segregation was the worst thing this country ever did. Forcing certain categories of citizens into separate, lesser accommodations, barring them from public places, treating them like lepers or untouchables, that was completely immoral and wrong. We were told that a lot and most of us strongly agreed. It was wrong.”

So far, so good. Never mind that Carlson himself never agreed to the proposition he’s making here. And while segregation was awful, there are arguably worse things that this country has done. For instance, slavery, Hiroshima, and more recently, Trump’s negligent and incompetent mismanagement of the coronavirus, resulting in the deaths of more than half a million Americans. But Carlson was just getting started…

“So imagine our confusion today looking out across the country. The very same people, literally the very same, who just the other day told us that segregation was immoral, are now enforcing segregation. Should we be surprised? Probably not, but we still are.”

As usual, Carlson doesn’t identify the “very same people” he’s referring to. He’s also lying that anyone is “enforcing segregation,” as the term is commonly understood. Using Carlson’s alleged logic, quarantining Ebola victims is a form of bigoted segregation. He continued…

“Just this morning the New York Times informed us that unless you can prove that you’ve taken the injection that the Democratic Party demands that you take, you are no longer permitted in bars, comedy clubs, even some dance competitions, in the state of New York. You’re too dirty to appear in public. You’re not welcome near normal people.”

Naturally, Carlson is politicizing this matter by falsely asserting that the Democratic Party is “demanding” vaccinations. To be sure, Democrats have been far more responsible about measures to mitigate the spread of a deadly pandemic. But many of the more sensible Republicans have advocated getting the shot. Even Carlson’s boss Rupert Murdoch bragged about getting vaccinated. It isn’t about people being “dirty” or “normal,” It’s about people being smart and having concern for others. But he still wasn’t finished. Carlson whined that attending sporting events would mean that…

“…you will be sitting in your own roped off section, marinating in your shame with the other disobedient bad people. Medical Jim Crow has come to America. We still have water fountains. The unvaccinated would have separate ones.”

And there you have it. The fabled conflation of vaccine disinformation and outright racism. Carlson thinks that protecting people from a very real virus that is killing people is equivalent to the forced suppression of civil liberties based on skin color. In one fell swoop Carlson has diminished both the deadly consequences of the COVID pandemic and the overt bigotry of Jim Crow laws. And this is an achievement that you can rest assured he is proud of. It’s the sort of nauseating bullpucky that made him the number one show on Fox News. Which says a lot about Fox News – and it’s audience.

Watch Fox News Hack Smear Doctors, Teachers, and Soldiers in Less than 30 Seconds

It must be be difficult keeping up with the demands of an audience that hungers for ever more grotesque misrepresentations of reality. But never underestimate the ability of Fox News to more than satisfy the cravings of the dystopia-loving Trump cultists who make up the bulk of their viewers.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson

Topping the charts at Fox News is their Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson. He has supplanted Trump’s BFF (Bootlicking Fanboy Forever), Sean Hannity, as the network’s biggest draw. Which only proves that the more you embrace racism, and disseminate COVID conspiracy theories, and support violent, anti-American insurrectionists, the better your prospects for success on Fox News.

On Monday Carlson presented a special Memorial Day edition of his Hatefest Hour. And he managed to cram a surprising quantity of kook sauce into his recipe for rancid right-wing radicalism. He babbled a plaintive lament for a past wherein his white, European forefathers were still firmly in charge:

“So much has changed in the United States in the last year that it’s hard to keep track of it all. Our public health experts have been exposed as frauds, as incompetent and dishonest. Our schools are now openly teaching racism to our children. Our military at times does not seem interested in protecting the country. These are big changes. They have real ramifications. Most newspapers don’t want to cover these stories, the real stories. They occupy themselves with frivolities. But we do want to cover them. We think it’s our duty.”

Literally none of that rant is true. But you have to give Carlson credit for maligning doctors, teachers, and soldiers in one brief excretion of unadulterated bullpucky. Public health experts like Dr. Anthony Fauci are among the most respected people in the country. He’s polling at 60% favorable, along with Biden at 58%. Meanwhile, Trump is wallowing at his usual and dismal 37%.

Carlson doesn’t offer any proof for his claim that schools are “openly teaching racism.” He must be thinking about himself, because he spends more time on teaching his viewers to be racist than on any other subject. And he has been urging his audience to take their children out of schools, presumably to make sure they remain stupid enough to watch his show and the rest of the Fox lineup.

However, the most offensive part of Carlson’s tirade is his charge that “our military at times does not seem interested in protecting the country.” He has the gall to insult the women and men, who are putting their lives on the line to protect the nation, on Memorial Day. And once again, he doesn’t bother to support that heinous comment with anything resembling a fact. However, he has advocated stockpiling AR-15s to use against our soldiers. Just like Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-QAnon) and Trump’s former National Security Advisor, Mike Flynn, Carlson views the American government as the enemy.

These are the sort of stories that Carlson considers it his “duty” to cover. Not frivolities like whether President Biden wore a face mask, or how Vice-President Harris shakes hands, or a gay Lego set. Those were all “non-frivolous” stories covered by Fox News. And let’s not forget Carlson’s own coverage of the allegedly sham marriage of Joe and Jill Biden. With stories like these, Tucker and Fox News are clearly leading the way on journalism that’s meaningful and pertinent to the American people.

GOP Sen. Tom Cotton Baselessly Accuses the Associated Press of Colluding with Hamas

There has been a measure of devolution observable in the United States Congress. Some of its newer members on the Republican side are adherents to preposterous conspiracy theories and have a disturbing aversion to facts and/or truth-telling. Names that rise to the top of that list include Lauren Boebert (who recently blamed President Biden for a shortage of Chick-fil-A dipping sauce), and Marjorie Taylor Greene (who is a committed devotee of QAnon).

Tom Cotton

Another Republican conspiracy crackpot is Sen. Tom Cotton. On Monday Cotton took the Senate floor to do his best Tucker Carlson impersonation. That’s a talent that consists mainly of asking a bunch of stupid questions without providing any answers, but making sure that whatever is being insinuated will stick in the gullible minds of his target audience.

Cotton’s topic was the Israeli bombing of a building in Gaza that housed offices of the Associated Press, and also, allegedly, a Hamas military facility. The bombing was highly controversial and was covered by the media in detail. However, the press missed some of the questions that Cotton raised, mainly because they were really stupid questions:

“Whys is the Associated Press sharing a building with Hamas? Surely these intrepid reporters knew who their neighbors were. Did they knowingly allow themselves to be used as human shields by U.S. designated terrorist organization? Did the AP pull punches and decline to report for years on Hamas’ misdeeds? I submit that the AP has some uncomfortable questions to answer.”

Let’s take this from the top. Whether the AP was sharing a building with Hamas is not an established fact. Cotton has no evidence of it, nor does U.S. intelligence (at least as far as they’re admitting). Israel says they have evidence but have delayed releasing it while they are preoccupied with the ongoing conflict. So Cotton’s first question is based on an assumption for which he has no facts.

Cotton goes on to make a back-handed compliment suggesting that the “intrepid reporters” at AP would know all of their neighbors. Again, there is nothing to support that assertion. And there is no reason to assume that the AP had investigated every other tenant in the building. What’s more, if Hamas occupied an office there, they would likely have kept it secret and wouldn’t have been running around with Hamas armbands or other identifying insignia.

From there Cotton makes a repulsive charge that the AP might have been allowing themselves to be used as human shields. WTHF? It is profoundly irresponsible and reckless to make such a charge without irrefutable proof. He is, in effect, accusing journalists of engaging in terrorism.

Finally, Cotton implies that because of the alleged proximity of a Hamas office, the AP would deliberately distort their reporting to benefit Hamas. Again, Cotton is making a horrific accusation without a shred of evidence. He doesn’t even supply any AP stories that he thinks might have soft-peddled Hamas. He’s just taking wild swings in the dark.

This is the sort of thing you would expect from a disreputable cretin like Tucker Carlson. But for a U.S. senator to be flinging unsupported allegations as serious as these from the Senate floor is a grotesque abuse of his position.

Unfortunately, that is what we have come to expect from a Republican Party that still believes that Donald Trump won the 2020 election and that his victory was stolen from him by a massive cabal of Democrats, Republicans, journalists, election officials, voting machine manufacturers, Venezuelans, Germans, and Ukrainians. So if anyone should have to answer some uncomfortable question it’s Cotton and his GOP confederates who actually did support the domestic terrorists who invaded Congress on January sixth.
