Trump’s Cult Cheers His Hope that Americans Suffer a ‘Great Depression’ While Biden is President

From his beginning as a fake real estate billionaire and reality TV game show host, to his abominable occupation of the White House, Trump has nurtured his tabloid celebrity and the inbred hostility of his followers to corral them into a pseudo-spiritual revival movement.

The shared animus of the Trump cult is a powerful glue that bonds the weak and ignorant together into a foreboding faith-like community focused on their fetish for all things Trump. Like all cults, there is only one source of knowledge and truth: the Dear Leader. And Trump followers are deeply indoctrinated into that worshipful state.

On Friday night, Trump presided over another one of his traveling salvation shows. For the most part it was a tedious rehash of everything he has been yammering about since he lost the 2020 election to President Biden. He whined about the election being “rigged and stolen” from him; the false depictions of Biden as corrupt; the ‘witch hunts” and “election interference” being orchestrated by Democrats and wayward Republicans; and his relentless self-exaltation as America’s savior.

For the record, Trump defines election interference as anything that is critical of him. It could be the 91 felony counts pending against him, or inquiries into his constitutional eligibility to run, or fact-checking his innumerable lies. Merely running against him is election interference, because it interferes with his aspirations of authoritarian dictatorship.

At Friday’s cult rally in South Dakota, Trump delivered his moldy oldies to an enrapt audience of true believers. Never mind that nearly everything he said was a flagrant, provable lie. Particularly his remarks about the U.S. economy and Biden’s success at salvaging it after the abysmal Trump term. But Trump ventured just a little farther out on the limb of lunacy with a dire, dystopian prediction…

“The fact is we’re probably heading into a Great Depression…I don’t believe I’ve ever said that before, and it’s a hell of a statement to make, and I hate to make it. The only question is whether or not it will be during the remaining months of the Biden administration. If it’s going to happen, let it happen then. If it’s going to happen, let it be during Joe. And then we’ll come in and we’ll straighten this sucker out.”

Trump’s analysis is firmly rooted in grade A, unadulterated bullshit. Under Biden’s stewardship, the American economy has flourished. He presided over the creation of more than 13 million jobs. Unemployment is at a record low. Wages are higher and exceeding inflation. And while there was a global spike in inflation last year, it has been declining in the U.S. for the past twelve consecutive months.

Biden and Democrats in Congress – with no help from Republicans – passed an infrastructure bill that is not only creating jobs, it is rebuilding and modernize the nation’s roads, bridges, airports and communications. They also passed a bills that brought technology manufacturing back to the U.S. and funded critical climate change mitigation. And all of this and more was done while providing aid to struggling families and reducing the deficit.

For his part, Trump left office with fewer Americans working than before he started. He accelerated off-shoring of manufacturing. He imposed tariffs that raised the cost of goods for American consumers, and triggered retaliatory tariffs on U.S. products. Not to mention his incompetence and negligence that resulted in more than a million COVID fatalities. And now he wants people to believe that he will “straighten this sucker out?” Puleeze!

In light of that, Trump told his cultists that he not only believes that a “Great Depression” is coming, but that he hopes it comes soon. As in within the next year while Biden is president. Trump is actually saying aloud that he wants the American people to suffer in order to boost his electoral prospects next year.

That’s a pretty repulsive campaign strategy. And what makes it even worse is that his cult disciples are all for it. They cheered excitedly as he proposed this sickly desire. Apparently they are willing to suffer themselves in order to return to the White House someone who obviously doesn’t care about them, and may be a felon at the time.

What’s more, it isn’t just the “Deplorables” in Trump’s audience who are comfortable with his criminality and the notion of putting a felon in the White House. At a recent GOP primary debate almost all of the candidates supposedly challenging him pledged to support Trump even if he is convicted. So the insidious influence of the cult has infected the whole of the Republican Party. Which makes it all the more imperative that every Republican be defeated at the polls next year. They must not have an ounce of authority, and they must be sent an unmistakable message that their hatred for America and its principles will not be tolerated.

Trump Threatens ‘Weak’ Republicans in Congress: ‘We Will Put Them All In Jail Where They Belong’

The furious hostility and seething animus of Donald Trump are perhaps the most quintessential characteristics of his perverse personality. The only times that he isn’t lashing out malevolently at his perceived enemies is when he is lavishing wholly undue praise upon himself.

The targets of Trump’s tantrums are generally Democrats and political foes, including President Biden, former President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and leaders in Congress such as Nancy Pelosi. More recently Trump has made it his mission to viciously malign the judges and prosecutors connected to his multitude of criminal indictments and felony charges of crimes against America. His behavior exposes nothing more than his festering fear of the consequences of his crimes.

However, Trump doesn’t reserve his vile vitriol for Democrats and justice officials. He is often equally disparaging toward his confederates in the Republican Party. He regularly attacks Mitch McConnell and other insufficiently worshipful GOP representatives. On Wednesday Trump went a bit farther than his ordinary measure of malice when he posted this comment on his failing social media scam, Truth Social…

“Right now Republicans in Congress and the Senate have to get tough, and put everything together in one big, neat package, because I will be President in one and a half years, and we will pick the strongest, toughest, and most respected Attorney General, and if guilty, we will put them all in jail where they belong, just as they are trying to do to me based on NOTHING.”

Trump has been whining that Republicans in Congress have been too weak with regard to defending him. He believes that the GOP in Congress have some role in reigning in the judiciary, despite the Constitution’s separation powers. He wants them to defund and otherwise hamstring the Justice Department and prosecutors investigating his criminal activities. In other words, he is promising to “weaponize” the Department of Justice.

Coming from another angle, Trump is disappointed with Republicans for not more fiercely attacking President Biden and seeking his immediate impeachment. Never mind that they don’t have a shred of evidence of any wrongdoing. They have no use for evidence, particularly when it reveals their own crimes more than anything else. But that hasn’t stopped Trump from castigating them and fantasizing about their incarceration. Some recent examples include…

“Any Republican that doesn’t act on Democratic fraud should be immediately primaried and get out.”

“They impeach me, they indict me. And the Republicans just don’t fight the way … they’re supposed to fight.”

“Biden is a Stone Cold Crook-You don’t need a long INQUIRY to prove it, it’s already proven. These lowlifes Impeached me TWICE (I WON!), and Indicted me FOUR TIMES – For NOTHING! Either IMPEACH the BUM, or fade into OBLIVION.”

“Republicans better get tough and they better get smart because most of them look like a bunch of weak jerks right now.”

“Republicans all, you must finally get tough. You’ve got to get tough and you’ve got to show them, when you arrest your leading political opponent, we no longer have a democracy.”

“Remember, all of these Indictments, Federal, State, and Local, were conceived and generated by Crooked Joe Biden and his staff of Radical Left Lunatics and Thugs for purposes of interfering with the 2020 Presidential Election. None of these trials should be allowed to begin prior to the Election. Republicans must get tougher and smarter, FAST!”

Clearly Trump is desperate and afraid, which is driving him to bully his fellow Republicans into more forcefully supporting his delusions and quest for power. He knows what he’s done, and he knows that he’s guilty, and that he’s likely to be convicted. Yet he appears to have forgotten what he thinks about candidates who are under felony indictments. So this might be a good time to remind him.

Adam Schiff Shames the GOP for its ‘Willingness to Debase Themselves in the Service of Trump’

Consequently, Trump remains the leading candidate for the GOP’s presidential nomination. And most of the other candidates have promised to support him, even if he is convicted of any or all of the 91 felony counts currently pending against him in his four criminal indictments. They are so proud of their fealty to the Party’s mob boss that they made their devotion known on national television.

On Sunday morning Rep. Adam Schiff was interviewed by Jen Psaki on MSNBC. And he had some pertinent points to make about the Republican embrace of purposeful and depraved lawlessness. Psaki approached the discussion with a question about the GOP’s enthusiasm for shutting down the government. She specifically referenced Marjorie Taylor Greene’s utterly inane promise to halt critical federal activities – including Social Security and veterans benefits, law enforcement, financial aid for low income families, etc. – if her colleagues refuse to go along with her obsession to impeach President Biden for no discernible reason…

Psaki: Shutting the government down has implications on the public broadly. What is your reaction to her tying a government shutdown to an impeachment inquiry?
Schiff: It just shows the extreme lengths they’ll go to carry water for Donald Trump. They’ll shut down the government. They’ll do whatever they can to initiate an impeachment of Joe Biden. And part of the motivation here, of course, is to distract from Donald Trump’s multiple indictments. Part of it is to somehow try to dilute the stain of Trump’s impeachments. But the common denominator is just this unswerving, undeniable willingness to debase themselves in the service of Donald Trump. (Emphasis added).

Indeed, debasing themselves has become a routine part of today’s Republican Party. Whether they are defending the violent January 6th insurrectionists, seeking to criminalize abortion, organizing book bannings and beer boycotts, imposing racist restrictions on voting, and as always, kissing Trump’s – let’s just say ring. Schiff then continued…

Schiff: I think that many of them would like to shut down the government anyway. This will just give them further leverage to try to shut down the government, having failed to default on the nation’s credit. Many see this as the next demonstration of their commitment to god knows what. So I fear that we are on a path to government shutdown because there are enough members of the Republican conference who want it, and Kevin McCarthy will do whatever it takes to remain Speaker one more day, or one more week. That’s his sole motivation.

Clearly Kevin McCarthy and the Republican Party has given up entirely on advocating an agenda that has any appeal to the American people. They are wholly focused on slandering Biden and his family over baseless allegations for which their evidence is so thin that even some at Fox News aren’t buying it. Meanwhile they are propping up Dear Leader Trump whose crimes are well documented and mostly affirmed by other Republicans and members of Trump’s staff. All they have left is Trump worship and Biden hatred.

Democrats, on the other hand, are delivering for the American people on matters of great importance, including jobs, reducing drug and healthcare costs, restoring the nation’s infrastructure, supporting abortion rights, mitigating climate change, and defending democracy around the world. It’s a platform that broad majorities of the public support in principle. Democrats just need to better connect the dots between their popular policies and their President. Then let Republicans continue to sabotage their own electoral prospects by clinging to their abhorrent agenda and a soon-to-be convicted criminal candidate.

Kevin McCarthy Can’t Even Lie Well About His Wretched Record as Squeaker of the House

It’s been seven months since Kevin McCarthy was selected by his caucus to become the Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives after a torturous fifteen vote marathon. In order to finally secure the post that he had craved for years, he traded away virtually all of the authority that normally comes with it.

McCarthy’s deeply unethical promises to the fringiest faction of his caucus has obligated him to concede to the demands of crackpots like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz in order to keep his speakership. That obligation now includes entertaining unwarranted and evidenceless efforts to impeach President Biden. It is such a brazenly political charade that even Fox News has criticized it.

Having nothing to present to voters as resembling an accomplishment, McCarthy is embarking on a press tour to disseminate flagrant falsehoods and fantasies. In furtherance of that agenda, he told one television interviewer that…

“Someone did an analysis of this Congress versus the last Congress. And in the last Congress the Democrats controlled the House, the Senate, and the presidency. But this Congress has actually produced more bills. More become law, which makes it more difficult. But the bigger things we also changed is we opened the House back up. Members now have to come to work.”

First of all, it’s likely that the “someone” who did the analysis that McCarthy referenced – but conspicuously failed to identify – was probably Sean Hannity or some similar right-wing toady. But more to the point, the alleged analysis is wholly unrelated to reality. Here are the facts:

“The 118th United States Congress, which began on January 3, 2023, and will end on January 3, 2025, has enacted 13 public laws and zero private laws.”

“The 117th United States Congress, which began on January 3, 2021, and ended on January 3, 2023, enacted 362 public laws and 3 private laws.”

Now some observers may object to that because the current 118th Congress has only just begun, and it’s unfair to compare it to the 117th Congress, when Nancy Pelosi was Speaker, and had two years to complete their work. But even if you just count the bills from the 117th that were passed in the same seven month period, there were still 39 bills, which is three times as many as McCarthy is bragging (lying) about.

What’s more, among the bills passed in the first year of the 117th Congress were the historic “American Rescue Plan” that brought the nation out of the pandemic recession, and the “Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act” that created millions of jobs restoring America’s roads, bridges, airports, and communications. None of the GOP’s 13 bills in this session had anywhere near that level of benefit to the nation as those passed during Pelosi’s tenure.

Instead, while McCarthy has allegedly been in charge as Speaker, he has focused almost exclusively on ultra-partisan hearings aimed at maligning President Biden and other Democrats. They have sought to slander the Biden family, including his son Hunter and First Lady Jill. They are also seeking to impeach multiple members of the Biden administration, including Attorney General Merrick Garland, FBI Director Chris Wray, and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. In their spare time they are trying to defund the prosecutors and judges associated with the many criminal cases of Donald Trump.

All that McCarthy and the GOP have left at this point are lies, threats to tank the economy, meritless personal attacks, and boycotts of Barbie, Mickey Mouse, and light beer. Their agenda is so warped that Biden even used it in a satirical and hilarious mock campaign ad. Or maybe Republicans actually think that their doctrine of dystopia is what the public wants from their representatives in Washington. If so, that will work out well in next year’s elections – for Democrats.

Fox News Host Praises Trump’s Mugshot as Appealing to Black Voters Because They’re Pro-Criminal

Right-wing media have spent much of this year attacking the “radical leftist thugs” conspiring to destroy Donald Trump by holding him accountable for his multitude of crimes. They regard the four criminal indictments (to date) and the 91 felony counts (so far) as contrived and dismiss them as “election interference,” despite the abundant evidence of Trump’s guilt, provided mostly by Republicans and former Trump staffers. It’s all been a dreadful drain on Trump’s ability to pursue his lavish life of luxury.

Among the most atrocious acts by Democrats, according to the Trump cult, has been their forcing him to pose for mugshots. Of course, that’s a requirement imposed by local law enforcement authorities, not political operatives. However, since Trump’s first mugshot was published, the very same Trumpists have been celebrating it as a boon to Trump’s image and electoral prospects. They insist, falsely, that it is increasing his popularity, and they greedily engage in peddling mugshot merchandise at every opportunity.

On Monday, Fox News host Jesse Watters did a segment on the Trump smugshot that crossed the line from beatification to blatant bigotry. This should come as no surprise considering that Watters replaced Fox’s former Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson. Watters gushed that…

“The Democrats Soviet tactics has alienated their most loyal voting block. The mugshot has breathed new life into the Trump campaign and broadened his appeal to Black Americans. Over the weekend, with the help of mugshot merchandise, the Trump campaign raked in more than $7 million. Today my garbage man told me he’s buying mugshot t-shirts for everyone he knows this Christmas.”

According to Watters, Black Americans idolize anyone who breaks the law and has a mugshot taken. He is implying that they are by nature drawn to criminals. He states this matter-of-factly as if everyone knows that it’s true. Does that mean that they also admire James Earl Ray, and Charles Manson? Watters’ assertion that Black Americans have a knee-jerk appreciation for outlaws is racist on its face.

Watters is also asserting, without evidence, that it is Black people who are shelling out for Trump’s mugshot merch, rather than his rank and file cult followers. And as proof of his offensive political theory, Watters cites his garbage man, who we are supposed to assume is Black, because of course he is. We are also supposed to believe that this wealthy, elitist TV host regularly converses with sanitation workers. But Watters apparently couldn’t find a Black financial analyst or mechanical engineer or oncologist who is gifting Trump mugshot apparel for the holidays.

What’s more, Watters makes a preposterous and factually unsupported statement associating Democrats with “Soviet tactics” that are alienating Black voters. He thinks that by charging Trump with crimes and arresting him, Trump joins the group of minorities who have been discriminated against by racist institutions. Never mind that wealthy white men are actually least often the victims of such prejudice. That fact notwithstanding, Watters believes that Trump’s legal tangles will result in Black voters abandoning Democrats. Not only is there zero evidence of that, but recent polls show that Trump’s criming has caused a general collapse of his support.

Watters isn’t the only Trumpozoid who is certain that his mugshot is a huuuge positive. MSNBC compiled a partial list of others espousing the same idiocy…

“Fox News contributor Raymond Arroyo told host Laura Ingraham that… Trump’s arrest gives him ‘cred among a new bloc of voters.'”

“Newsmax host Grant Stinchfield said Thursday that he believes ‘many Black men’ will find Trump’s arrest ‘endearing,'”

“Laura Loomer, a far-right activist [said Trump’s arrest made him] ‘the most relatable man on the ballot for the black community.'”

“Dinesh D’Souza claimed mug shots [made] Trump the ‘ultimate gangsta in our culture'”

For the record, it isn’t Black Americans who embrace felons as political leaders. It’s Republicans. And that isn’t conjecture. They actually admitted it on national television at the recent GOP primary debate where six out of ten candidates proudly committed to supporting Trump if he’s the party’s nominee, even if he is convicted of the pending charges.

So contrary to Watters’ racist remarks, it is his party – and his network – that favor criminals in politics. Which is convenient since it is his party, and his network, where most of the criminals reside.

GOP Debate Affirms It’s a Pro-Criminal Trump Cult that Wants to Put a Felon in the White House

The first debate for the 2024 Republican nomination for president is in the can. And it lived down to most of the expectations that people had for the roster of groveling also-rans who were mostly too scared and weak to challenge the party’s frontrunner, Donald Trump.

The debate began inauspiciously with a probing question about the government’s coverup of UFOs. Thank goodness Fox News has the courage to broach the issues that are uppermost in the minds of the American people. And from there the affair descended into whiny squabbles and attempts by the participants to ingratiate themselves to the most notorious non-participant.

Perhaps the most notable moment in the two hour snoozer was when the moderators sought to interject some Trumpiness into the discussion. They did this with a tangential reference to Trump’s legal tribulations. While it was encouraging that they raised the subject at all, they did so in manner that didn’t promote discussion of Trump’s crimes, but merely the other candidates’ political reactions to them.

Bret Baier: We’re all going to take a brief moment and talk about the elephant not in the room.
Martha MacCallum: Former president Trump was indicted in four different states on 91 counts. He will be processed tomorrow in Georgia at the Fulton County jail for charges related to the 2020 election.
Baier: You all signed a pledge to support the eventual Republican nominee. If former President Trump is convicted in a court of law, would you still support him as your party’s choice.

It’s important to note that the question was not simply whether they would support
Trump if were the nominee. It was if they would support him even if were convicted of crimes ranging from sexual harassment and rape, falsifying financial records, stealing and hoarding classified documents (and lying to the FBI about it), interfering with an election, and staging a violent coup.

Six of the eight candidates raised their hands indicating that they would indeed support Trump, even after he was found guilty by a jury of his peers. The only holdouts were Chris Christie and Asa Hutchinson. What this tells us is that most of the Republican Party is a pro-criminal organization that is comfortable with putting a recidivist and unrepentant felon in the White House.

Presumably, these wankers hold that position because they believe it is what the base of their party wants. They are desperately afraid of offending any of Trump’s cult followers. However, they might want to check with recent polling to see if their analyses are aligned with reality. For instance…

“The Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 45 percent of Republicans said they would not vote for Trump if he were convicted, while 35 percent said they would still cast their ballot for the former president. Another 20 percent said they were unsure of how they would vote.”

So a significant majority (65%) say that they would not vote for a convicted Trump, or are not sure. Meanwhile, Trump is hanging on to the same 30-something percent of dead-enders that he has had for months. And it’s on the “strength” of that public “support” that most of the GOP candidates are committing to back Trump, even if he’s running from prison. That message should be spread generously throughout the upcoming campaign, whether or not Trump is convicted or has even come to trial. Because it still represents their views embracing criminals.

For his part, Trump is busy campaigning on his failing social media scam, Truth Social, where he has posted 45 comments Thursday (so far). He was pretending to spend Wednesday night during the debate being interviewed by Tucker Carlson, but that was actually pre-taped days before.

The content of the interview was ridiculous in the extreme. They spent much of their time delving into critical matters such as whether his pedophile friend Jeffrey Epstein was murdered, his opinion on the possibility of his StormTrumpers starting a civil war, the prospects his being assassinated, and the tragic consequences of low water pressure. And based on that, it really was a shame that he didn’t participate in the debate so he could address those issues before the nation. Nevertheless, in typical Trumpian fashion, he’s bragging (lying) that he and Tucker won the night…

Fox News Liberal Calls Out Republicans – and her Co-Hosts – On Air for Their ‘Craven Lies’

Earlier this year Fox News was forced to settle a nearly billion dollar defamation lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems that documented just how flagrantly the network deceived their viewers with propaganda and pandering toward Dear Leader Donald Trump. Despite that costly and humiliating public rebuke, Fox News continues to lie on Trump’s behalf. They have not only failed to show any remorse or repentance for their dishonesty and betrayal of trust, they have actually doubled down by fortifying their primetime schedule with hardcore Trump-fluffers.

In addition to their new and rescheduled lineup cheerleading for Trump (even while he’s bitterly attacking them), Fox’s continuing shows remain staunchly under Trump’s banner. On the afternoon panel show “The Five” – which features four hard-right conservatives and one frequently interrupted liberal – the propaganda fest is in full swing with many of the same hosts and guests that were exposed in the Dominion lawsuit as liars.

However, occasionally the battered liberal, Jessica Tarlov, manages to squeeze out some truthful commentaries in the midst of the anti-Democratic mudslinging. That’s what occurred Tuesday when the panel discussed President Biden’s visit to the fire-ravaged island of Maui. As usual, the four right-wingers gleefully slandered Biden with false GOP talking points, until Tarlov responded saying that…

Tarlov: There have been so many craven lies told about the timeline of the response on this. Jesse just said his first comments were, “no comment,” which is categorically untrue. So that was on August 13th. The wildfires started on August 8th, on August 10th that’s when a major disaster declaration occurred. He got the call, the request from Hawaii to do that. It took him just 63 minutes to sign that.
Watters: He signed a piece of paper, I’m talking about significant public comments.
Tarlov: Just wait for it. Later that day, he was in Utah talking about something else. And he opened up by commenting on what was going on in Hawaii and how devastating it was. Listen to what the governor of Hawaii, Josh Green, said, “Within six hours, the administration met our needs with federal movement. I don’t think that’s ever happened before.” The Maui County mayor: “I wanted to say how our response to the president has been he called me, I asked for the help that we needed. And within two hours, one of his cabinet members called me to answer my question. We’ve been getting all the help that we need.”

Tarlov didn’t mince words as she attacked her co-hosts for telling “craven lies” and presenting information that was “categorically untrue.” Watters interrupted again, to try to throw Tarlov off balance, but that didn’t work. She just schooled him on the facts about what happened with quotes from the local officials who were pleased and grateful for Biden’s rapid, effective, and compassionate response to the crisis.

Tarlov also shot down Republican whining about Biben giving victims “only” $700.00 by noting that that is the FEMA limit. Tarlov’s Fox News colleagues either don’t know that, or are lying, or think that Biden should break the law and give them more (scratch that last one. Republicans would never advocate giving people who are suffering more of anything but grief).

Meanwhile, throughout the segment Fox’s chyron read “BIDEN’S DISASTER TOUR,” implying that the disaster was Biden’s fault or that his visit was a disaster. Neither of which was true. But the truth never stopped Fox News or the Republican Party they’re partnered with from spinning preposterous departures from reality in order to malign Biden and the Democrats. They spent much of Tuesday lying that Biden fell asleep at a service in Maui, and being outraged that he pet a rescue dog. That’s the depths to which Fox News has sunk. And they haven’t hit rock bottom yet.

IT’S A CULT! Poll Shows Republicans Trust Only Criminal Messiah Trump to Tell Them the Truth

The devotion of Republicans to their Dear Leader Donald Trump is astonishingly steadfast. He is leading his challengers in the primary for the GOP presidential nomination by substantial margins, despite his having been indicted a historic four times with a total of 91 felony counts.

Clearly Republican voters do not regard respect for the law or the Constitution as requirements for public service. To the contrary, their dismissal of Trump’s criminality appears to be an extra incentive to cast their votes for him. They cling ever tighter to Trump, even as he himself seems to be descending into an abyss of psychological trauma, paranoia, and fear.

The first rule of a cult is to believe only what the cult leader tells you, and that everyone else is lying. Trump has made that explicit admonition himself in order to keep his followers in line, saying that saying that “what you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what’s happening.” Now, a new poll by CBS News confirms that the glassy-eyed Trump disciples have an allegiance to him that transcends all other influencers in their lives…

“Right now, the Republican Party would easily re-nominate Donald Trump for 2024. And it’s not close. The former president now holds his largest lead over his rivals. […] Trump’s voters hold him as a source of true information, even more so than other sources, including conservative media figures, religious leaders, and even their own friends and family.”

This is a level of trust generally reserved for prophets and messengers of God. But the trust that Trump’s followers have for him surpasses that of the people who are most often held in the highest esteem. Some of this absence of faith is explainable. A certain percentage of people will cease to believe their own spouses, parents, and siblings, because they may not be Trump supporters, and may even be (gasp) Democrats. Similarly, traditional conservatives can’t be trusted because some of them have recognized that Trump is a fraud and a loser and have disavowed him.

Perhaps the most surprising finding in this poll is how far down the list religious leaders have fallen. There is little of the sort of ideological treason among them that is attributable to family and pundits. Indeed, their motives are generally regarded as without political baggage.

So the only explanation is that pastors and priests, et al, are competition for Trump, who must be revered and worshipped above all others. It’s the same reason that wars are fought over differences of spiritual affiliations. And that is precisely what makes Trump – and his mesmerized minions – so intractable and, ultimately, dangerous.

Fox News is OUTRAGED at Biden for Raising Taxes on the Wealthy and Spending on Climate Change

The 2024 campaign for the presidency is shaping up to be one of the most contentious in modern times. While neither party has officially chosen their candidates, it appears likely that it will be a rematch between the current President, Joe Biden, and the whining loser, Donald Trump.

Republicans are intent on lowering the character of the political debate to infantile name-calling, and vengeance for the perceived persecution of Dear Leader Trump. They are falling in line with Trump’s campaign slogan, “I am your retribution.” Which they apparently believe is what the American people are clamoring for.

Democrats, on the other hand, are preparing to run on Biden’s record of accomplishments that include guiding the nation out of a deadly pandemic, and restoring the economy that was in a shambles after COVID and Trump’s tenure of incompetence and catering to right-wing extremists, corporations, and the 1% upper-crusters.

Fortunately, Republicans and their sycophantic media minions are proving to be among the best surrogates for President Biden’s reelection. Not only are they sabotaging their own prospects by embracing unpopular policies like abortion bans and impeaching Biden and half his Cabinet, but they are also tying themselves inextricably to Trump’s tedious “Big Lie” about election fraud and his obsession with relitigating the 2020 election that resulted in his humiliating defeat.

On Friday’s episode of Fox News’ “Outnumbered” they offered up some more reasons why the American people should vote for Biden in 2024. They came during a segment wherein Fox contributor “Doctor” Janette Nesheiwat surely thought she was crushing Biden with righteous criticism. She said that…

“I took a look at Bidenomics. I wanted to see what exactly was in it. My takeaway? Higher taxes, especially on the wealthy and corporations, and massive spending especially when it comes to climate change. And then they want to dump more money into COVID? Hello? I saw maybe three or four cases of COVID this entire week. So they’re just spending money, and they’re spending it recklessly.”

OMG! Biden is raising taxes on billionaires, who currently pay little or nothing. And he’s providing funds to mitigate climate change, which is threatening the lives and livelihoods of millions around the country and the world. Impeach him now! Never mind that broad majorities of Americans support these policies.

Nesheiwat went on to complain about spending on COVID, because she has only seen “maybe three or four cases of COVID this entire week.” Keep in mind that she is more of a TV commentator than a practicing physician. Still, she considers her personal observations a valid statistical sample. The CDC, however, using more credible methods, reports COVID hospitalizations of 10,320 for the past week, an increase of 14.3%.

What’s more, the Fox News analysis of Bidenomics couldn’t be more off target. There is ample evidence that Bidenomics is benefiting most Americans and especially the working-class. It is improving the U.S. economy, which is leading the world. The Biden administration is responsible for the nation’s record job growth, restoration of domestic manufacturing, inflation that has been declining for the past twelve consecutive months, expanding healthcare and making it more affordable, and much more. All while reducing the deficit.

So if Fox News wants to complain about Biden making the rich pay their fair share, or saving the environment, let them have at it. It’s reminiscent of a recent episode where GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA-QAnon) tried to take a swipe at Democrats, but wound up starring in a Democratic campaign advertisement. The ad replayed video of her complaining about Biden and his…

“…government programs to address education, medical care, urban problems, rural poverty, transportation, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps and welfare […] And he still was working on it, the largest public investment in social infrastructure and environmental programs that is actually finishing what FDR started, that LBJ expanded on and Joe Biden is attempting to complete.”

Heaven forbid that Democrats would help Americans with education, healthcare, infrastructure, the environment, and more. Democrats better be careful or they will fall behind on the issues that Republicans are working so hard on, such as banning books, restricting reproductive healthcare, enriching corporations, and suppressing democracy.

Trump Chickens Out of the Fox News GOP Debate, Will Be Fluffed By Tucker Carlson Instead

The first debate for the 2024 Republican nomination for president will be televised on August 23, on Fox News. It is sure to be rip-snoring affair with the likes of Mike Pence, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Tim Scott providing the GOP juice. Only Chris Christie is likely to wake the audience up from time to time.

Donald Trump, Chicken

A major disappointment for Fox News and the Republican National Committee, who are sponsoring the debate, is the news that Donald Trump will not be participating. They made a full court press to persuade the former guy to play along, even jetting down to Mar-a-Lago for in-person begging. All to no avail as Trump is now reported to have officially bowed out. Although it was fairly predictable considering Trump’s animosity toward his GOP challengers, and even more so, toward Fox News…

Consequently, Trump has decided to take a stab at upstaging the debate by scheduling an interview with ex-Fox News Trump-fluffer, Tucker Carlson, at the same time. It’s his way of chickening out of having to address his four criminal indictments and 90+ felony counts. However, this feeble attempt at counter-programming is a strategy that’s likely to fail since Carlson’s reach on his new Twitter “show” has been sinking like a stone. And to make matters worse, he has received a “cease and desist” letter from Fox News asserting that he is in breach of his contract.

Undeterred, Trump and Carlson are pressing forward with their political performance. Rest assured that Trump’s legal problems will not be covered in any substantive way. They will both babble about weaponized justice, corrupt prosecutors, and election interference. It will be interesting to see how they try to pretend that they got more viewers than the Fox News debate, even though “views” on Twitter are counted when anyone just scrolls past a video without watching it all.

It’s not as if anyone would be compelled to sit through a Trump/Carlson interview because something unexpected or newsworthy might happen. The whole program could be summarized beforehand as being filled with friendly or leading questions, and tediously incoherent replies that are unrelated to reality. In short, Carlson will suck up, and Trump will dodge and lie.

Meanwhile, over on Fox News, the rest of the GOP roster will be struggling to grab some attention without offending Dear Leader Trump in absentia. They will take some swipes at each other, while tip-toeing around the orange elephant that isn’t in the room. Except for Christie, who will be spitting into the windbags surrounding him, and getting booed by the in-studio audience of Trump cultists. But at least he will offer some dramatic friction.

I’m going to predict that neither Trump’s cavorting with Carlson, nor Fox’s formal fare, will break any records for viewership. There really isn’t much need for anyone to watch either live. America can catch up on what happened in post-program soundbites, that will probably still be too long and dull. The nation already knows what they will say, because they’ve said it all before. And wasn’t of any importance the first (or fiftieth) time.
