Tucker Carlson’s QAnon Creed Comes Out as He Calls Democrats a ‘Child Sacrifice Cult’

The continuing outpouring of abominations expressed by Fox News Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson, is reaching ever more noxious depths. That might seem impossible for someone who has already so despicably demonstrated his overt racism, misogyny, and fondness for fascism and fascists. But if you didn’t think Carlson could do it, you don’t know Tucker.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, QAnon

On Monday’s episode of his nightly hate mongering sermonette, Carlson unleashed an outraged rant (video below) over Democrats angered by the Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade. He almost immediately contradicts himself to assert that Democrats were actually thrilled by the decision because, in Carlson’s warped mind, it provided them with a political issue.

Carlson claimed that Democrats have no other issue to run on in the midterm election. He must have missed the passage of the popular American Rescue Act, the Infrastructure bill, the Inflation Reduction Act, and legislation that addressed gun control, gas price gouging, access to healthcare, climate change, voting rights, and more.

RELATED: For Those Wondering What Biden and Democrats in Congress Have Been Doing the Past 16 Months…

Carlson’s tunnel-blind view that Democrats were fixated on abortion because they had no other issue to run on was patently absurd. Nevertheless, he hammered on it incessantly. And then he got to what he thought was a profound point. He accused Democrats of hypocrisy saying that…

“…there was a problem with the messaging. So COVID had just ended. And people not being entirely stupid still remembered that this very same Democratic Party, the same people had forced the entire population to wear paper masks like children, and then to take the shot as a condition of going outside. So women have the right to control their own bodies? Hmm, they used to tell us that.”

Carlson went on to describe the COVID vaccine as “experimental” and to mock the the slogan “My body, my choice.” However, his attempt to malign Democrats as hypocrites was logically perverse and it swung back to smack him right in his smug face.

There is no rational equivalency between the government’s interest in abortion rights and COVID mitigation. Women who want to preserve their right to decide whether or not to carry a fetus to term will not infect other women around her at the grocery store or the post office. A deadly virus, though, does spread in exactly that way.

So there is no governmental interest in mandating abortion decisions which are private and personal. But there is a government interest in preventing the spread of deadly viruses that can – and tragically have – killed more than a million Americans. Many due directly to Fox News in general, and specifically to Carlson’s reckless and callous campaign of deliberate disinformation.

RELATED: Tucker Carlson of Fox News Says ‘Vaccines Don’t Work and They’re Not Telling You’

So Carlson’s argument fails on every level. He is intellectually incapable of comprehending that women who have had abortions won’t cause other pregnant women standing behind them in line at the dry cleaner to spontaneously abort. But someone with COVID could transmit the virus to anyone within proximity to them. And in his ignorance, Carlson concluded his idiotic harangue with an insane, QAnon inspired delusion…

“Abortion politics is a total fixation of Democratic donors. It’s the main thing they care about. Why is that, by the way? It’s a religion. It’s a child sacrifice cult.”

That’s right. Carlson has been fully indoctrinated into the QAnon cult that believes that Democrats feast on the blood of babies. And this nauseating perspective is permitted to be aired on Fox News, a network that is seething with heinous allegations and crackpot QAnon conspiracy theories that have a high potential of leading to violence. And once more, after their role in exacerbating a deadly pandemic, Fox News will have blood on their hands.

GOP Senator on Fox News Backs Assault Against 72 Year Old Volunteer Abortion Clinic Escort

The Republican Party of Donald Trump has spent months (years, actually) normalizing acts of violence in pursuit of their extremist, authoritarian quest for power. From the very beginning of Trump’s political adventurism he explicitly advocated violence. He even urged his supporters to “knock the crap out of” protesters at his rallies and promised to pay their legal fees.

Fox News, Terrorism

On Sunday morning the Fox News Senior Trump-fluffer, Maria Bartiromo, invited Republican Senator Mike Lee of Utah to discuss the GOP’s plans should they win a majority in the 2022 midterm election. Bartiromo wanted to know whether they would conduct an inquisition of the Justice Department and the FBI on behalf of Trump following the search of his Mar-a-Lago bunker where he had illegally hoarded highly sensitive national security materials.

RELATED: Trump Returns to the Scene of the Crime at Mar-a-Lago – and Freaks Out About the FBI’s Shoes

Lee immediately steered the conversation to what he regarded as “overreach” on the part of law enforcement. This despite their having found hundreds of classified documents that Trump repeatedly lied about having. However, Lee’s examples of this alleged overreach wound up serving as support for the perpetrator of a vicious assault on a senior citizen…

Lee: In the last few days we’ve seen some pretty glaring examples of what appear to be instances of overreach […] You’ve got a Catholic father of seven who formed a group designed to encourage young men to be faithful to their commitments, who was arrested in front of his seven children.
Bartiromo: Crap!

Lee repeated that he regards this as an “instance of overreach” that Republicans will be looking into. Bartiromo added that another line of inquiry should include the Justice Department and the FBI’s alleged “deep hatred for Donald Trump and the way they treat the former president.” In the view of Lee and Bartiromo, treating a suspect of serious federal crimes, including espionage, like a suspect is a akin to deep hatred.

What Lee failed to mention was that the Catholic father who was arrested was charged with assaulting a 72 year old volunteer reproductive healthcare clinic who was escorting patients through a gauntlet of anti-choice activists. According to the local ABC news affiliate

“A Pennsylvania man has been charged for allegedly assaulting an elderly Planned Parenthood volunteer. […] According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Mark Houck is alleged to have twice assaulted a 72-year-old man because he was a volunteer reproductive health care clinic escort.

“The charges stem from two separate incidents […] In the first incident, the man was attempting to escort two patients exiting the clinic when Houck forcefully shoved him to the ground. In the second incident, Houck allegedly confronted the man and shoved him to the ground in front of the Planned Parenthood center, causing injuries that required medical attention.”

That is the sort of behavior that Sen. Lee is defending. And Bartiromo is fully on board with it. The assailant, according his page on a Catholic speakers website, “is the Co-Founder/President of The King’s Men,” a non-profit organization “seeking to unite and build up men as true leaders […] with the goal of eliminating pornography.” The page also says Houck is a “chastity educator!”

Soon Houck may be able to add convicted felon to his resume. And Fox News can continue its mission to promote violence against their political opponents, up to and including insurrection. It’s a strategy that has become even more pronounced as Trump sinks ever deeper into legal peril. It’s a path that they appear to hope leads to civil war.

Fox News Recklessly and Purposefully Puts the Life of an Indiana Abortion Doctor at Risk

Last week a heart wrenching news story broke about a ten year old girl in Ohio who was raped and became pregnant. Making the ordeal that she and her family were facing even more traumatic, the family had to take the girl to Indiana because law in Ohio would force her to carry the baby of the rapist to term.

Fox News, Bullshit Factory

True to form, Fox News falsely asserted that the story of of the girl was fake. Tucker Carlson flatly said it was “not true.” Jesse Watters interviewed the Indiana attorney general who said that he’s investigating the Indiana doctor for unspecified misconduct. Pedophile-enabler, Rep. Jim Jordan, tweeted (and later deleted) that the story was “Another lie.” Fox’s view across the board was was that the story was a hoax aimed at “promoting” abortion and criticizing the recent Supreme Court decision that reversed Roe vs Wade.

RELATED: Jon Stewart Nails It: The Supreme Court is Now the Fox News of Justice

This week the alleged rapist was apprehended and pleaded guilty. Consequently Fox News shifted their coverage to feature assertions about the suspect’s immigration status, and attacks on the Indiana OB-GYN to whom the girl was referred.

In both cases they demonstrate that they are fixated only on the politics of the issue and have zero concern about the welfare of the child. They issued no apologies or retractions for any of the prior claims that the story as fake. Even worse, Fox News has now been identifying the doctor by name and photo, a reckless act that could put her life at risk.

There is a long history of violence against doctors and reproductive healthcare clinics. Reporting by Fox News has certainly contributed to these horrific statistics. Fox knows this, and yet they still engage in this sort of irresponsible and dangerous so-called journalism. Forbes reports that it’s getting worse…

“Abortion providers have been subject to thousands of criminal incidents since abortion became legalized in the 1970s, according to the National Abortion Federation, including 11 murders, 42 bombings, 196 arsons and 491 assaults since 1977.”

Indeed, it will get worse if Fox News gets its way. Their coverage of the issue is inciting radical right-wingers to commit more crimes, just as their coverage of Trump’s “Big Lie” does. And they are pushing those hostile themes even as they falsely accuse Democrats of promoting violence.

RELATED: Ted Cruz Lies to Fox News that Democrats are ‘Encouraging Violence’ After Roe v Wade Ruling

Democrats need to expose the callousness of Fox News and the Republican Party’s intent to encourage violent opposition to the rights of women and families. And a good start was made when Rep. Eric Swalwell righteously dressed down Jim Jordan, who was among those vilifying both the ten year old victim and her doctor…

The Crowd Goes Wild for Allegedly ‘Misread’ Comment Thanking Trump for ‘Victory for White Life’

It didn’t take long for the Supreme Court’s ruling that overturned Roe vs Wade to become part of Donald Trump’s cult rally ranting. On Saturday he included the decision in his spiel before his glassy-eyed disciples, and took credit for it saying that it was “only made possible because I delivered” three ultra-partisan justices. For which credit actually belongs to Mitch McConnell.

Trump Charlotsville

It’s important to note that the judges Trump is so proud of were put on the court by a president who lost the popular vote twice, was impeached twice, and tried to overthrow the U.S. government. And their ruling defied the will of the American people who are rarely more united on an issue than they are about preserving the reproductive choice rights provided by Roe vs Wade.

RELATED: Ted Cruz Lies to Fox News that Democrats are ‘Encouraging Violence’ After Roe v Wade Ruling

Trump held his rally in Illinois in order to support the reelection of Rep. Mary Miller. In her remarks she also addressed the Court’s ruling and praised Trump for his role in securing it. She fawned…

“President Trump, on behalf of all the MAGA patriots in America, I want to thank you for the historic victory for white life in the Supreme Court yesterday.”

It isn’t often that such unbridled honesty is expressed in political speeches. Miller’s remarks are consistent with the right-wing agenda articulated by the “white replacement” theory (a favorite of Fox News Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson) that fear mongers about an imaginary plot by Democrats to import dark-skinned foreigners to overwhelming the white electorate.

However, Miller later recognized the potential for backlash as she was severely chastised for her comments. So naturally, she had her spokesperson release a statement asserting that it was gaffe. “You can clearly see she is reading off a piece of paper,” he lied, saying that “she meant to say ‘right to life.'” But there are two things wrong with that sorry attempt at an excuse.

First of all, it isn’t reasonably possible to mistake the written words “right to life” for “white life.” They don’t look the least bit similar. She would have been better off saying it was a verbal gaffe, rather than a misreading.

Secondly, how does she explain the fact that the audience cheered effusively for what she actually said aloud? They couldn’t know if the written words were any different than the ones she spoke. They heard her say “victory for white life,” and they were thrilled by the sentiment that is so closely aligned with their racist principles.

Furthermore, Trump was standing right behind her when she it. He didn’t flinch, nor try to correct her. In fact, he smiled broadly with pride for his “white life” victory. And Miller didn’t attempt to correct herself either. Which should come as no surprise since she is the same person who once said that “Hitler was right on one thing. He said whoever has the youth, has the future.” That was a apparently her approval for emulating Hitler’s program of indoctrinating kids with propaganda. Part of the Republican “family values” platform?

RELATED: Tucker Carlson Smears Companies that Cover Abortion Travel Costs as Being ‘Against Families’

Given that Miller’s explanation doesn’t hold water, that the audience cheered wildly, and that no corrections were made at the time, it’s impossible to assume anything other than that it was intended. And the walk back only took place after they were flooded with criticism. Now they are trying to dig themselves out of a hole that they themselves dug with years of shoveling racist rhetoric. And they’re just upset that their true face is, once again, being seen by all.

Ted Cruz Lies to Fox News that Democrats are ‘Encouraging Violence’ After Roe v Wade Ruling

In the wake of the appalling assault on the Constitution by the Supreme Court ruling that overturned Roe vs Wade, Republicans and their mouthpieces in right-wing media immediately set out to malign pro-choice advocates and protesters. It was a coordinated strategy to deflect from the fact that the vast majority of the American people oppose the decision and are committed to correcting the historic and unprecedented legal blunder.

Fox News, Bullshit Factory

Naturally, Fox News was at the forefront of this propaganda crusade to slander peaceful protesters. And part of their plan included bringing on Sen. Ted Cruz to fabricate a phony chronicle of events. Cruz, of course, complied by spinning this utterly fictional account…

“I think there’s a real risk of violence. We’ve seen multiple Democrats now, including Maxine Waters, before that Chuck Schumer, before that the Biden White House, effectively encouraging violence. Chuck Schumer stood on the steps of the Supreme Court and threatened Justice Kavanaugh and Justice Gorsuch by name.”

There was no truth to anything Cruz was saying. Certainly no Democrats were doing anything that could be characterized as “encouraging violence.” Cruz’s comments were all out of context references from months or years ago. For instance, Chuck Schumer, reacting to a Court hearing on an abortion case, said in March of 2020 that Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh “have released the whirlwind and will pay the price.” That was more than two years ago. And Schumer even acknowledged at the time that “I shouldn’t have used the words I did, but in no way was I making a threat. […] My point was there would be political consequences.”

That concession was something that you would never hear from the Republicans fomenting violence, such as what occurred during the insurrection on January 6, 2021. But Cruz dredged up this old remark specifically to defame the pro-choice movement.

Cruz was joined in this campaign by Tucker Carlson who, following the Roe decision, said on his program that “Today you saw several elected members of Congress call for insurrection.” No, actually, no one saw that. But Carlson’s canard is reminiscent of his preposterous assertion that Stephen Colbert had engaged in insurrection when some of his staff performed a comedy routine in Washington.

RELATED: Stephen Colbert Hysterically Mocks Tucker Carlson’s ‘Comedy’ on the Arrest of His Staff in D.C.

Since the ruling was announced, the manufactured narrative from the ultra-MAGA politicians and pundits that pro-choice activists are engaging in an “insurrection” has just become more intense and bizarre. It’s a deliberately dishonest strategy contrived to both malign peaceful protesters and to trivialize the term that describes Donald Trump’s attempted coup on January 6th. And the GOP is stridently going even farther down the rabid hole. What follows are some examples of the wholly dishonest ravings of a desperate band of bullshitters:

Tucker Carlson Smears Companies that Cover Abortion Travel Costs as Being ‘Against Families’

The Supreme Court’s ruling that overturned Roe vs Wade is an unprecedented decision that, for the first time ever, removed a Constitutional right that had been affirmed numerous times for more than fifty years. And the judges responsible for the decision were put on the court by Donald Trump, who lost the popular vote twice and tried to overthrow the U.S. government.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, STFU

The American people are rarely more united on an issue than they are about preserving the reproductive choice rights provided by Roe vs Wade. Nevertheless, the Republican, anti-democratic forces in Washington managed to subvert the people’s will in order to impose a religious standard on the nation, in place of a legal one.

On Friday night Carlson launched a new, and patently offensive line of attack. He lashed out at private companies seeking to provide benefits to help employees get the healthcare they need when dealing with pregnancy and family planning. In states where abortion is now – or will soon be – illegal, these benefits will reimburse employees for costs to travel to states where their health needs can be met. And despite conservatives ordinarily supporting free market positions, Carlson is hypocritically attacking companies for trying to do what they believe is best for their employees and their business. He raged that…

“It’s obvious why it’s so important to America’s corporations, almost all of whom immediately weighed in to say, ‘We’ll fly you to get an abortion at the state of your choice.’ Why? Well, of course, employees without families are loyal to the company and, of course, it’s much cheaper to pay for an abortion than it is to pay for maternity leave, or an extra name on the insurance policy. So, it’s all about the money for corporate America. It always is. Families are bad for big corporations, therefore they’re against families.”

That is glaringly wrong for so many reasons, Let’s begin with the fact that it isn’t necessarily cheaper to insure an employee who seeks an abortion. For one thing, Carlson is assuming that everyone who gets an abortion doesn’t already have a family. That’s false. It’s also flagrantly false to suggest that employees without families – by which he means children – are more loyal to their employer. As a frozen food empire trust fund baby, whose father worked for the State Department, Carlson has never had a job that wasn’t handed to him by virtue of his wealth and elite status. Where do you suppose his loyalties lie?

More importantly, Carlson is making the repulsive argument that companies make employment decisions based on what it might cost to provide an employee with healthcare. By his own perverse logic, companies would (or should?) discriminate against an applicant who is diabetic, or has congenital heart defects, or suffers any other health challenges. Even those with families.

Carlson’s conclusion that corporations are “against families,” is not only exceedingly stupid, it ignores the fact that most corporate executives have families. He is also ignoring the broad diversity of the companies that offer the travel cost benefits. They include Meta (Facebook), Dick’s Sporting Goods, Amazon, Levi Strauss, JPMorgan Chase, Starbucks, and Tesla. Among media companies offering this benefit are Disney (ABC News), Warner Bros. Discovery (CNN), and Comcast (NBC News and MSNBC).

Conspicuously absent from that list is Fox News. Either they do not offer the benefit, or they don’t want anyone to know that they do and declined to respond to inquiries. So they are either callously indifferent to their employees’ well being, or they’re raging hypocrites. And it wouldn’t surprise anyone if it turns out to be both. After all, Fox News – and especially Tucker Carlson – have demonstrated that they don’t care about the health of their employees, or their viewers. Carlson recently endorsed nicotine addiction. No, really! And when it comes to COVID, Carlson was its biggest advocate. Those aren’t exactly pro-health, or pro-employee policies.

Trump Shill Calls Violent Insurrectionists ‘Unwitting,’ Peaceful Abortion Protesters ‘Terrorists’

In the wake of the disclosure of the draft opinion that would overturn Roe v Wade, by the Supreme Court’s uber-conservative faction, the anti-choice extremists of America have embarked on a crusade to malign those who support women’s rights to safe and legal reproductive healthcare as radical thugs fomenting chaos and violence.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump Insurrection

The hostile characterization of the peaceful protests by abortion rights activists is as far removed from reality as Donald Trump’s delusional insistence that he won the 2020 presidential election (which he and his toadies at Fox News are still squawking about). However, Americans who are worried about the loss of liberties have been appropriately and responsibly protesting the Court’s perverse opinion that is utterly lacking in legal basis. As opposed to the right-wingers who are dodging the issue by fixating on the leak, rather than the substance.

RELATED: Biden Slams the ‘Extreme MAGA Crowd’ After Roe v Wade Leak. Fox News and Newsmax Prove He’s Right

Never mind that the identity of the leaker is unknown and is more likely to be a conservative than a liberal. The frantic and coordinated campaign to disparage the left is unfurling in a wave of wrath and fury. On Fox News Laura Ingraham even resorted to contriving an imaginary scenario wherein “mobs of people descended at the Court, screaming what could be described as threatening language toward some of the Justices.” Which, of course, never happened.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s Twitter ban defying spokes-shill, Liz Harrington, is busy posting tweets that seek to paint a grossly dishonest picture of the pro-choice protesters. Along with a supposedly incriminating video, Harrington said that…

“If people who don’t like election fraud and unwittingly enter a public building are ‘terrorists,’ what does that make these people?”

The first thing to notice about this blather is that Harrington is asserting that the deadly insurrection that Trump incited on January 6, 2021, was nothing more than some “unwitting” folks, upset by nonexistent election fraud, taking a tour of Congress. That’s true, if your definition of “unwitting” includes storming through police barriers, breaking doors and windows, vandalizing and stealing government property, and injuring more than 140 law enforcement officers. For the record, “unwitting” means “without being aware; unintentionally.” So Harrington thinks that hundreds of Trump supporters broke into the Capitol unaware or unintentionally? Really?

RELATED: WTF? Trump Brags that 67% of Americans Say He’s Responsible for the Violent January 6th Insurrection

What’s more, Harrington is absurdly implying that the pro-choice protesters are “terrorists.” However, the video that she included in her tweet was hardly proof of her irresponsible accusation. In fact, it proved that the protesters behavior was both lawful and restrained. It shows that they did not invade any private property, nor engage in any threatening acts. They merely conducted a legal demonstration and chanted slogans saying to “Keep abortion safe and legal,” and that “Pro-life is a lie. You don’t care if people die.”

Harrington’s comparison of this nonviolent civil action to the riots conducted by domestic terrorists at the Capitol is preposterous in the extreme. But it is exactly the sort of deceitful provocation that is expected of the ultra-rightists who aspire to foment division and incite more violence. And if there is one thing they’ve made clear, it’s that it is their intention to gag anyone who disagrees with their brand of conservative authoritarianism, and to suppress dissenters who prefer democracy over the tyrannical ambitions of wannabe dictators like Donald Trump.

Matt Gaetz Gripes that Women Supporting Roe v Wade are Too Smart and Too Old – For Him?

In one of this year’s most glaring self-owns, insurrectionist representative Matt Gaetz (FL-QAnon) posted a tweet that he surely thought would devastate the liberals that he hates so passionately. But, as usual, he could not have been more mistaken.

Click here to Tweet this article

Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene

On Monday an unauthorized release of a draft opinion by the conservative wing of the Supreme Court indicated that they would be overturning the abortion precedent set by the Roe v Wade ruling fifty years ago. The Republican Party immediately sought to ignore the harm done to the rights of American women, and liberty in general, and instead focused on portraying themselves as victims (again) of a plot to embarrass them by revealing to the public what they are actually doing.

While there were innumerable bad takes on this news by rightist partisans in politics and the press, none were as cringeworthy as the one from Matt Gaetz who tweeted…

“How many of the women rallying against overturning Roe are over-educated, under-loved millennials who sadly return from protests to a lonely microwave dinner with their cats, and no bumble matches?”

Seriously? Let’s set aside for the moment that Gaetz is disparaging adult women who had the audacity to get an education. What were they thinking? What’s truly nauseating about this comment is that Gaetz is exposing his own heinous predilection for girls with limited education because they were still in high school. He is currently under investigation for allegedly having sex with an underage girl who he reportedly paid and transported across state lines.

RELATED: Has Fox News Blacklisted the Sex Scandal Plagued Trump Toady Matt Gaetz?

Like his cult messiah, Donald Trump, Gaetz “loves the poorly educated.” Presumably that’s because they are the only ones who will fall for his bullsh*t. He is explicitly criticizing backers of Roe v Wade because of their academic achievement. That’s something that he appears to regard as a personality flaw that he discourages among his constituents. He’s also opposed to microwave ovens and pets, which further illustrates just how out of touch he is with most Americans.

Gaetz ought to be more concerned with “How many of the women rallying against overturning Roe” live in his district. Nationally, the support for Roe v Wade is more than 69%. Perhaps Gaetz is worried about millions of women – and men – rallying to defend reproductive rights because he couldn’t get a handful of supporters to show up at recent protest that he organized with fellow insurrectionist, Marjorie Taylor Greene.

RELATED: Snowflakes Gaetz, Greene, et al, Flee Their Paltry Pro-Insurrection Press Conference

The spectacle of a man who is being investigated for unlawful sex with a minor attempting to mock reproductive rights supporters for being educated adults is, sadly, all too typical of the Republican Party. And no one exemplifies that perversion better than Matt Gaetz. And for some puzzling reason, he does publicly as if he’s proud of it.

On FOX News Ingraham and Cruz Threaten to ‘CANCEL’ the Supreme Court if it Doesn’t Overturn Roe

The “Cancel Culture” rhetoric is an exclusively right-wing phenomenon intended to provide conservatives with a platform for whining about their imaginary victimhood. It is a thoroughly manufactured variant of what they used to call political correctness. Never mind that Republicans, Fox News – and especially the Undisputed King of Cancel Culture, Donald Trump – are more often the perpetrators of the alleged “canceling.”

Fox News, Laura Ingraham

Now Fox News is upping the ante with their cancellation fixation. While they frequently aimed their animus at targets like children’s toys, or sports figures, or even their own GOP confederates who they deem insufficiently obedient, they have now put the Supreme Court in their sights.

On Wednesday the Supreme Court heard oral arguments on a case from Mississippi that seeks to overturn Roe vs. Wade. Virtually every media analysis of the proceedings came away with the impression the six conservative justices were strongly leaning toward upholding the Mississippi law that effectively bans abortion. But for some reason, that lockstep concurrence with anti-choice dogma wasn’t enough for Fox News host Laura Ingraham and her ideological twin, Sen. Ted Cruz. They were both incensed about something that was unclear. Perhaps it was the Court’s failure to issue an immediate edict sending all women who have considered abortion to Gitmo for reeducation. You decide…

Ingraham: If we have six Republican appointees on this court, after all the money that has been raised, the Federalist Society, all these big fat cat dinners – I’m sorry, I’m pissed about this – If this court with six justices cannot do the right thing here, the constitutional thing, then I think it’s time to do what Robert Bork said we should do. Which is to circumscribe the jurisdiction of this court and if they wanna blow it up, then that’s the way to change things finally. Because this can’t stand. This is insane.
Cruz: I would do that in a heartbeat. As you know the Constitution gives Congress the authority to restrict the jurisdiction of the court. I think we should do that.

Wow! Ingraham is actually suggesting that the Supreme Court vote a particular way because of the financial contributions to that position. She believes that if enough money is thrown at a case, the court is obligated to rule in favor of the “fat cats.” Likewise, she thinks that the justices have obligations to the political party of the president that appointed them. She is articulating her vision of a Supreme Brothel that is comprised not of justices, but of obedient political prostitutes.

What’s more, both Ingraham and Cruz are threatening to impose legislative constraints on the Court to limit what kinds of cases it is allowed to hear. There does appear to be a constitutional provision that could permit Congress to impose such constraints. Article III, Section 2 says that…

“In all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, and those in which a State shall be a Party, the Supreme Court shall have original Jurisdiction. In all other Cases before mentioned, the Supreme Court shall have appellate Jurisdiction, both as to Law and Fact, with such Exceptions, and under “such Regulations as the Congress shall make.”

The phrase granting “such Regulations as the Congress shall make,” is the part that could be interpreted as providing the limiting powers of Congress. But the phrase referencing that “a State shall be a Party,” to the “original Jurisdiction” might mean that any litigation wherein a state is a litigant is exempt from the limiting powers that are only available in matters of “appellate Jurisdiction.” (Constitutional lawyers, feel free to comment).

However, if Congress were to pass legislation dictating what the Court can consider, it would be opening up a Pandora’s Box of controversy. It would mean that the ever changing partisan majorities of Congress could exploit this legal loophole to impact matters as diverse as abortion, guns, civil rights, immigration, religion, voting, etc.

Ingraham and Cruz are clearly eager to risk that future of see-saw constitutionality for what they believe is in their near-term, partisan interest. They could come to regret that. But their support for treating the Court as beholden to money and party politics is unambiguously grotesque and un-America. Which also makes it unmistakably consistent with the Trumpian Republican brand.

Late Wednesday night the Supreme Court handed down an unsigned opinion that allowed Texas to implement the most extreme abortion law in the United States. It prohibits abortion after only six weeks, by which time most women don’t even know they are pregnant, allows total strangers to bring legal action, and has no exceptions for incest or rape.

President Biden quickly announced a “whole-of-government” response to “to ensure that women in Texas have access to safe and legal abortions.” But in the meantime there will be severe consequences and irreparable harm for the women and their families who the radically right-wing members of the Court so callously disregarded.

Not surprisingly, the subject came up at Thursday’s White House press briefing. Owen Jensen of the Eternal Word Television Network asked a question that was focused more on the politics than the legalities. He entered into this exchange with Press Secretary Jen Psaki:

Jensen: Why does the President support abortion when his own Catholic faith teaches abortion is morally wrong?
Psaki: He believes that it’s a woman’s right. It’s a woman’s body and it’s her choice, He believes that it’s up to a woman to make those decisions with her doctor. I know you’ve never faced those choices. Nor have you ever been pregnant. But for women out there who have faced those choices, this is an incredibly difficult thing. The President believes that right should be respected.

Anyone who has covered Biden, or any other pro-choice Democrat, for the past fifty years already knew the answer to Jensen’s question. It was a deliberate attempt to demean the President and to draw Psaki into a pointless debate. Of course, Psaki doesn’t suffer fools gladly. Just ask Peter Doocy of Fox News. So she schooled him on why American women will be more disturbed by this decision than partisan men from evangelical “news” outlets.

The question about pro-choice Catholics in politics is one that keeps getting asked no matter how many times it is answered. But for some reason no one ever asks anti-choice Republicans a similar question. For instance, Donald Trump suddenly became rabidly anti-choice when he ran for the GOP nomination for president. However, he grew up in the Presbyterian church that has a pretty liberal view of abortion. According to their website

“[T]he artificial or induced termination of a pregnancy is a matter of careful ethical decision of the patient . . . and therefore should not be restricted by law.” […]

“When an individual woman faces the decision whether to terminate a pregnancy, the issue is intensely personal, and may manifest itself in ways that do not reflect public rhetoric, or do not fit neatly into medical, legal or policy guidelines.”

Many other denominations have a similar position, including Episcopalians and Methodists. So why don’t we ever hear a reporter ask “Why doesn’t Trump support abortion when his own Presbyterian faith teaches that abortion is a decision of personal morality?”

This is just another reason why the separation of church and state needs to be fiercely defended. Hypocrites masquerading as believers will always try to force their beliefs onto others. These are the same people who decry Big Government. They are the people who are opposing mask and vaccine mandates that actually do save the lives of actual people. But mandating women to carry fetuses to term against their will is just fine with them. Because that’s how religious fanatics roll.
