Al Franken Shows How to Make Republican Hacks Squirm By Using this One Little Trick – Truth!

CNN has not exactly been dignifying itself lately. It’s new management appears to be shifting its editorial direction more to either an artificial neutrality or downright conservativism. They have fired honest journalists like Brian Stelter and John Harwood. And sources say they are pushing remaining personnel to be more “Republican-friendly.”

Al Franken, GOP Elephant

However, on Saturday one of the remaining bright lights at the network, Jim Acosta, invited Al Franken on to debate GOP strategist April Stewart about the legitimacy of the Supreme Court. To put it mildly, it didn’t go well for Stewart.

RELATED: Fox News Putin Puppet Tucker Carlson’s False Flag Fiction Gets Ripped By CNN’s Jim Acosta

The discussion began with Acosta playing a video of Vice-President Kamala Harris lamenting that the current Supreme Court is “an activist Court” as exemplified by its decision overturning Roe v Wade. Acosta then turned to Franken, who pointed out that if the Court’s reputation was suffering, it was because of Republicans disrespect for the institution. Franken cited as examples how they refused to take up the nomination of Merrick Garland due to the proximity of a presidential election, which was a year away, but then confirmed Amy Coney Barrett within a few weeks of an election.

Franken began by stating flatly and factually the circumstances that led to the confirmations of Justices Gorsuch and Barrett as having been “stolen.” What followed was an exchange that exposed the utter vacancy of the GOP’s position. Stewart attempted to revise history with a false argument about why Garland was snubbed. But Franken wasn’t having it (video below)

Franken: They’ve stolen two seats: the one that Merrick Garland wasn’t given a hearing for, and the one that Coney Barrett, where she was seated a week before the election. That destroyed the legitimacy of the court.
Stewart: To throw some accuracy in what Al said there, Merrick Garland was held up because we had divided government, a Democrat in the White House, and Republicans in control…
Franken: That’s not what McConnell said.
Stewart: But that’s the way historically this has been. When you’re in close to an election year and you have divided government….
Franken: No, that’s not the way it’s been historically done.
Stewart: When you have divided government, there typically is inclination to…
Franken: Tell me when this happened before. Tell me when it happened before.

Stewart ignored Franken’s question and tried repeatedly to push a narrative that had no resemblance to reality. And each time she did, Franken interrupted to ask her again to simply “tell me when it happened before.” She never could. And finally, Franken explained to her why she couldn’t cite another example…

Stewart: I can’t give you an exact example when this happened in the past.
Franken: You know why you can’t? Because it hasn’t happened before.

Stewart’s humiliating stammering as she sought to spread a wholly fictional account of the Republicans’ deliberate poisoning of the Supreme Court’s credibility is emblematic of how little regard the GOP has for the Court and the Constitution. But Franken’s dogged defense of historical honesty is a master class in how to handle right-wing propagandists. Hopefully we will see more of that as the midterm election advances – and beyond.

Tucker Carlson Hypes Steve Bannon Conspiracy Theory that FBI is ‘Purging’ Trump Supporters

You know for sure that you’re scrapping the bottom of the barrel when you’re reporting “news” based on what Steve Bannon says. And that’s where Tucker Carlson of Fox News found himself on Friday. Not that Carlson’s sources for news have ever been credible, or even sane.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Bullshit Factory

Carlson’s Friday episode of his “White-Wing Power Hour” featured a segment that began with the moth-eaten “Fox News Alert” banner that adorns every story on the network, from immigrant caravans full of diseased gang members, to Democrats desexualizing animated candy characters..

RELATED: OH NO! Tucker Carlson is Turned Off By ‘Less Sexy,’ ‘Unappealing’ Cartoon M&Ms

Carlson was in his typical state of confused hysterics over another sensationalized event he heard about from one of his crack (addicted?) stringers. According to incorrigible felon, Steve Bannon, the “jack-booted Gestapos” of the FBI are on a rampage, “raiding” the lairs of dozens of “innocent” Trump cult followers at the direction of President Biden. Never mind that there is no evidence whatsoever of any such raids. That doesn’t deter Carlson from reporting this fake atrocity as fact…

“So a remarkable story… A Fox News alert for you. We don’t know the parameters of it but apparently the FBI has launched a full-scale purge of supporters of Donald Trump. That would be Joe Biden’s likely opponent in the upcoming presidential election. And that purge has intensified significantly today. So Steve Bannon just said that yesterday alone, the FBI raided the homes of dozens of Trump allies.”

Notice that Carlson is asserting this nonsense as fact despite admitting that he doesn’t “know the parameters” of the fiction he’s disseminating on national TV. He portrays this imaginary injustice as a “full-scale purge” of Biden opponents whose homes were pillaged by rogue agents of the law. Purged from what, he doesn’t say.

Carlson went on to interview an attorney who said that she represented the alleged victims. But by her own count they were only three of them, and none of their homes were raided. They merely received subpoenas for information relating to crimes involving alternate electors, illegal fundraising, and the January 6th insurrection that Trump incited.

Throughout these segments, Carlson displayed chyrons on screen that said “FBI Reportedly Raids Dozens of Trump Supporters” and “Up To 50 Trump Supporters Raided Across the U.S.” Once again, there were no credible reports of any raids, even by the victims’ lawyer. The only “report” came from Bannon, who said without any verification that…

“There were 35 senior members of MAGA, Republicans, supporters of Donald Trump that the FBI rolled in on.”

This whole horror story appears to have been hatched after ABC News reported that a federal grand jury is investigating Trump’s ridiculously named “Save America” PAC for potentially unlawful fundraising schemes…

“A federal grand jury investigating the activities leading up the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol and the push by former President Donald Trump and his allies to overturn the result of the 2020 election has expanded its probe to include seeking information about Trump’s leadership PAC, Save America, sources with direct knowledge tell ABC News.” […]

“The subpoenas, sent to several individuals in recent weeks, are specifically seeking to understand the timeline of Save America’s formation, the organization’s fundraising activities, and how money is both received and spent by the Trump-aligned PAC.” […]

“Trump and his allies have consistently pushed supporters to donate to the PAC, often using false claims about the 2020 election and soliciting donations to rebuke the multiple investigations into the former president, his business dealings, and his actions on Jan. 6.”

From that seed of truth, Bannon and his confederates in the Trump propaganda factories, manufactured these allegations of non-existent raids. And Carlson was only too happy to pick up the ball and run with it. Yet somehow this sort of crapola is allowed to be aired on a network that claims to report the news, by a host who has argued in court that he can’t be held responsible for defamation because “no reasonable person” would ever believe what he says. Unfortunately, there are way too many unreasonable persons watching – and believing – Tucker Carlson and Fox News.

Fox News Publishes Brutal NY Times Story that a GOP House ‘Could Plunge US and World Into Chaos’

In recent weeks Donald Trump has been sinking ever farther into the quicksand of his inbred criminality. The Department of Justice is investigating his theft of highly sensitive national security materials and hoarding them at his Mar-a-Lago bunker. A federal grand jury is probing his phony “Save America” PAC. A Georgia prosecutor is close to indicting him for election interference. And these don’t even include his real estate and tax fraud matters.

Donald Trump, Republican, GOP

As the shroud of corruption envelopes him, some of Trump’s associates and accomplices may be getting antsy about continuing to stand behind him for fear they won’t see the oncoming bus. They have been testing the waters to see if they can safely distance themselves from what is becoming increasingly obvious is a crumbling foundation of flagrant felonies. And among the nervous nellies are some of the folks at Trump’s Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News.

RELATED: Trump Threatens to Sue Fox News For Airing Lincoln Project Ad that Reveals the Victims of His Grifting

On Friday the Fox News website published an article that was mostly a re-post of an in-depth analysis of the Republican Party’s descent into Trumpian madness. The NY Times article profiled a handful of GOP House candidates who have consumed copious quantities of Trump’s Kool-Aid. And the conclusion was that these Ultra-MAGA extremists threatened to “plunge the U.S. and the world into ‘chaos.'” Fox’s re-post of the article said that…

“In his report, published Thursday, [New York Times congressional correspondent Jonathan] Weisman claimed that the potential influx of new GOP lawmakers that have ‘fringe positions’ and who have ‘espoused conspiracy theories’ could hamper the government in its ability to do everyday tasks. The piece went so far as to say that these future right-wing politicians could plunge the country and the world at large into ‘chaos.'”

And that…

“It could also mean that the government will struggle to perform such mundane tasks as keeping itself from defaulting on its debt and plunging the global financial system into chaos.” […] “At the same time, a Republican-led stream of impeachments, as some lawmakers have promised for the attorney general, the homeland security secretary, the education secretary and the president, could serve as an endless string of distractions for the executive branch.”

Indeed, a Republican majority in the House would implement a preposterous agenda that consisted mainly of exacting revenge on the Democrats who they believe offended Dear Leader Trump. And we know this not by speculation, but by the public promises of Republicans hoping to gain majority control, such as Jim Jordan and Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has already filed articles of impeachment against President Biden.

Republicans have also promised committee hearings into long ago debunked non-scandals involving Hillary Clinton, Merrick Garland, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Hunter Biden, and more. Trump has even said that he wants the FBI to search Joe Biden’s house – aka the White House – for evidence of some unidentified, and surely imaginary, crime.

It is on the basis of these promises that Republicans are asking Americans to vote for them in November. Forget about the sort of productive accomplishments that Democrats have achieved in the past two years – Infrastructure bill, American Rescue Act, Gun safety, healthcare, tax reform, climate change, etc. – Republicans are offering pure, unfiltered vengeance.

That’s what the GOP is promising the American people. It’s a platform of political payback on behalf of a wannabe authoritarian tyrant. And it’s what the Republicans swear they will devote their time to if given the opportunity. At least when they aren’t cutting taxes for corporations and the wealthy, and eliminating Social Security and Medicare.

What’s more, that’s what Trump thinks is a winning campaign strategy. However, based on this NY Times article that Fox re-posted, you have to wonder: Does Fox News think so?

Tucker Carlson Spews Toxic Misogyny as He Mocks AOC for Being Honest About Women in Politics

The Senior Misogynist at Fox News, Tucker Carlson, is once again demonstrating how he rose through the ranks of Rupert Murdoch’s empire to distinguish himself as a world-class woman hater. That was no easy task at a network known for demeaning, exploiting, and abusing women. But Carlson has earned his reputation and is likely proud of it.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, STFU

What set Carlson off on this occasion was a cover story in GQ Magazine about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Just the blasphemy of featuring a woman on the cover a publication for gentlemen must have triggered a severe psychotic spasm for Carlson. In obvious distress, he sought remedial therapy from his colleagues at Fox and Friends, where he unloaded this vile invective while cackling maniacally…

[Impersonating AOC] ‘They’re trying to kill me. They hate me. They don’t like women.’ Really? Who hates women? [Laughing again] I’ve never met anyone who hates women. Most men actually really like women, as far as I know.”

Carlson was reacting to comments AOC made in the article about how she was treated by some of her peers when she first came to Congress. She said that…

“My lived experience here is as a person who is despised. Imagine working a job and your bosses don’t like you and folks on your team are suspicious of you. And then the competing company is trying to kill you.”

That’s objectively true. She was regarded by Republicans as a radical socialist. And some of her Democratic colleagues considered too liberal. And, of course, along with others she was sought after by violent rioters during the insurrection on January 6th that Donald Trump incited.

Carlson utterly misrepresented AOC’s remarks. She was referring to political differences, not being hated as a woman. But Carlson’s misrepresentation exposed his own hatred. Imagine the cognitive disconnect to assert that he “never met anyone who hates women.” All he had to do was look in the mirror. And his very next line that “Most men actually really like women,” is drenched with sexist sexual connotations.

It’s highly unlikely that Carlson even bothered to read the article. Had he done so he would have seen AOC’s remarks that “There are amazing men in this world,” and that “It is the presence of good men that has shown me what kind of men are possible in this world.” But he surely prefers to reside in his domain of faux masculinity. It’s a state of psychosis that he has displayed repeatedly on his program. For instance…

Tucker Carlson of Fox News Attacks Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in a Grossly Misogynistic Diatribe
Carlson demeans AOC by denying her heritage, infantilizing her name, and dehumanizing her: “There is no place on Earth, outside of American colleges and newsrooms, where Sandy Cortez would be recognized as a, quote, woman of color. Because she’s not. She’s a rich, entitled, white lady. She’s a pampered, entitled, ski bunny.” See also: Big Baby Trump Says AOC has ‘the Mind of a Child’

Tucker Carlson of Fox News Hurls a Nauseating Trivialization of Rape and Sexual Violence
After AOC remarked that she had feared being raped by the rioters who attacked Congress on January 6th, Carlson told her to “Get a therapist, honey. This is crazy.”

OH NO! Tucker Carlson is Turned Off By ‘Less Sexy,’ ‘Unappealing’ Cartoon M&Ms
Carlson confesses his perverse sexual attraction to cartoon candies: “The brown M&M has transitioned from high stiletto’s to lower block heels. Also less sexy. That’s progress. M&M’s will not be satisfied until every last cartoon character is deeply unappealing and totally androgynous. Until the moment you wouldn’t want to have a drink with any one of them.”

Macho Poser Tucker Carlson’s Journey from ‘Dancing With the Stars’ to ‘The End of Men’
Carlson produced a special on Fox News about “The End of Men.” By all appearances it seems to be an in-depth exploration of Carlson’s deep-seated insecurity about his pitifully lacking masculinity and flaming impotence. He laments that declining testosterone levels are “One of the biggest stories in our lifetimes.”

This might be a good time to remind everyone that Fox News ha always been a hotbed of misogyny. Their founder and CEO, Roger Ailes, was fired for sexual harassment. So was their top star, Bill O’Reilly. And there were many more. It’s a good thing we have a specimen of masculinity like Tucker Carlson to remind us of what a real man looks like…

Trump Threatens to Sue Fox News For Airing Lincoln Project Ad that Reveals the Victims of His Grifting

Poor crybaby Donald Trump is all verklempt again Thursday morning. It isn’t because his criminal cohort Steve Bannon was indicted again for stealing money from Trump supporters. And it wasn’t because the law is “persecuting” him for his treasonous theft of highly sensitive national security materials, instead of President Biden or his arch-nemesis Hillary Clinton.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump, Fox News

Nope. What is eating Trump up this morning is that Fox News apparently ran an ad by the Lincoln Project, a group of relatively sane, non-MAGA Republicans. And as he is known to do, Trump freaked out over that act of betrayal of Dear Leader. In Trump’s dystopian world, no one is allowed to express an independent thought, especially if it is even marginally critical of the cult master. So in retaliation for Fox’s disloyalty, Trump posted the following comment on his floundering Twitter rip off, Truth Social

“The Perverts and Lowlifes of the Lincoln Project are back on, where else, Fox News. I thought they ran away to the asylum after their last catastrophic campaign, with charges made against them that were big time sleaze, and me getting many millions more votes in 2020 than I got in 2016. The Paul Ryun run Fox only has high standards for ‘Trump’ ads, but not for anyone else. The Perverts should not be allowed to ‘false advertise,’ and Fox News should not allow it to happen. See you all in Court!!!”

It’s ironic that the guy known for spanking porn stars and coveting his daughter is calling others “perverts.” It’s also curious that he’s so bug-eyed over a television ad by people he thinks suffered a “catastrophic” defeat in their last campaign. But it’s typical – and tedious – that he’s still bragging about getting more votes in 2020 than he did in 2016, while ignoring the fact that it was seven million fewer votes than Biden got.

RELATED: Trump’s Obama Envy May Be Tormenting Him Even More than the Possibility of Prison

More notable is that Trump is, once again, threatening to sue the object of his hostility. This time it’s his own Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News. Setting aside that he thinks that Paul Ryan (whose name Trump can’t spell) is running the network, Trump has the preposterous notion that he can sue Fox for false advertising.

First of all, it is the Lincoln Project’s ad, not Fox News. So he’s threatening to sue the wrong party. Secondly, the ad isn’t false. It is simply reporting factually that Trump has blatantly and repeatedly ripped off his own followers. See for yourself…

“Trump told you the election was stolen to rip you off; to sucker you; to take your hard-earned money and shovel it into his pockets. […] It was a sucker’s game all along. And you know who the sucker is? It’s you.”

If Trump were serious about suing (which he rarely is), he would find himself in court having to go through discovery, wherein he would have to provide the Lincoln Project with personal documentation that would likely prove the accuracy of the ad. The case would also force Trump to sit through the Lincoln Project’s defense that would include voluminous proof of Trump’s illegal and unethical grifting.

RELATED: Trump Rips Off His Gullible Cult Followers, Spends $650K of Their Money on Portraits of Himself

For its part, one of the Lincoln Project’s founders, Rick Wilson, “double dog dared” Trump to sue them. And it’s all you need to know about their attitude toward the lying, frightened, and impotent, twice impeached, Putin loving, traitor, and former reality TV game show host…

Rick Scott is the Best Chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee the Democrats Ever Had

The 2022 midterm election season officially started this week with Labor Day. And there is an abundance of political ingredients swirling in this year’s stew. Most notably is that the leader of the Republican Party, Donald Trump, is sloshing around furiously as he attempts to avoid being indicted for a broad array of crimes.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump, Republican, GOP

Democrats are enjoying a bit of a late surge following the successful passage of a flurry of popular bills addressing everything from infrastructure to gun safety, to climate change, and much more. Consequently, the down ballot Republicans are suffering nervous breakdowns as they try to navigate the perilous waters between being sufficiently worshipful of Trump, as he demands, and dodging the toxic animosity and controversy that the flailing Trump is splashing on his GOP colleagues.

RELATED: Wannabe Dictator Trump Decrees a Delusional Demand that He Be Anointed American Messiah

Sen Rick Scott of Florida is currently serving as the chairman of that National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), which is tasked with getting more Republicans elected to the Senate. He was a curious choice considering that in his pre-Senate career he was the head of a hospital chain that was fined billions of dollars for engaging in fraudulent activities.

Not surprisingly, the NRSC is now undergoing some financial hardship. This was brought up during an interview of Scott on Fox News by Martha MacCallum. MacCallum read to Scott from a report in the New York Times that asked “how a record cash haul vanished for Senate Republicans.” She elaborated saying that…

“It says ‘By the end of July National Republican Senatorial Committee had collected a record $181.5 million, but had already spent 95% of it.’ Then it goes to August where you have just $23.2 million left that is ‘less that half of what the Democratic Senatorial Committee had’ ahead of the really intense stage of this whole race that we’re now heading into. How did that happen? Where did all that money go?”

Scott’s reply illustrates just how much trouble the GOP is in under Scott’s mismanagement of their campaign.

Scott: We did the right thing. We spent early. Here’s the problem with campaigns. If you wait until the last month there’s too much static, too much noise out there. so what we did, as soon as out candidates got through their primaries we started helping them. We put up ads with them. Talked about what they believe in. And we started early on to define the Democrats. That’s put us in a position right now that we can not only keep our fifty Republican seats, we also can pick up probably as many – doesn’t mean we’ll get that many – but we’ve got six competitive states where the Democrats are… all the Democrats are underwater.
MacCallum: But Senator, you see a lot of these races that are tightening up in Florida, in Ohio, and these candidates are in need of money. at this point. some of them are pointing fingers at your leadership and saying that it’s not working. What do you say to them?
Scott: Well, Let’s look at the numbers. … Ron Johnson’s gonna win.
MacCallum: He’s behind by about five points right now, right?
Scott: Ron Johnson is either up a little or tied or down barely.

Well, thanks for clearing that up Ricky. So Ron Johnson, the incumbent senator from Wisconsin, is either ahead, tied or behind. That narrows it down to every conceivable possibility. Never mind that even MacCallum knows that Johnson is losing, although she understates the margin. The latest poll has Democrat Mandela Barnes ahead by seven points. Democrats are also leading or competitive in Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, and Scott’s own Florida.

Scott goes on to cite the 2020 Georgia senate race between Sen. Raphael Warnock and the then-incumbent Kelly Loeffler. He said that Warnock won because Republicans failed to define him early and that that Loeffler was expected to win easily. That’s revisionist recent history, because that race was always close and ended up being decided in a runoff.

So Scott is citing a race that Republicans lost in 2020, and a current race where a Democrat is ahead of their incumbent, as examples of how he is doing everything right. Fine. Let’s not tell him. Poor guy can’t even fool Fox News.

Marco Rubio Agrees that Trump Hoarded Classified Documents, But Only Cares that He Got Caught

With new and increasingly ghastly stories about how Donald Trump has betrayed America coming out every day, his servile toadies in the Republican Party and the rightist press are finding it more difficult to manufacture excuses for his rampant criminality and deceit. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t still trying.

Click here to Tweet this article

Marco Rubio, Donald Trump

On Wednesday morning GOP Sen. Marco Rubio visited Trump’s Ministry of Disinformation – aka Fox News – to unfurl more of the unabashed BS that he is so infamous for. However, he encountered some unexpected questioning that caused his robo-apologia to malfunction. It’s a condition that has afflicted other Trump-fluffers attempting to absolve Dear Leader of any and all wrongdoing.

RELATED: Fox News Frantically Struggles to Exonerate Trump After Release of the Redacted FBI Affidavit

During his interview on Fox and Friends, Rubio was asked by co-host Steve Doocy to explain why Trump would ever have sensitive national security materials stored insecurely at his Palm Beach resort hotel/home. Rubio’s response was typical of the cringeworthy alibis emanating from the League of Devoted Trump Defenders:

Doocy: “Highly classified documents at Mar-a-Lago that only a cabinet-level officer or higher could even look at… That doesn’t seem like something you should have in your post-presidential drawer.”
Rubio: “Well, let’s break this down. First of all, we really don’t know. Let’s go back and understand that all this information is coming from one side and one place. and that is sources with knowledge of the investigation. Well, who are the sources with knowledge of the investigation? The FBI and Justice Department. And they are leaking to the media.”

Doocy was putting it mildly to suggest that such documents ought not to be kept in a desk drawer at a hotel that welcomes unvetted guests from all over the world. But Rubio couldn’t even address that relative softball. He dodged the question about the legal and ethical failures by Trump entirely, instead devoting the next two minutes to complaining about alleged leaks.

In other words, Rubio was more worried that Trump had been caught, than by the crimes he committed that put America at risk. Although Rubio did affirm the existence of classified materials at Trump’s resort. By asserting that the info came from “sources with knowledge of the investigation,” he is conceding the legitimacy of the charges against Trump that he’s whining were leaked.

What’s more, the substance of Rubio’s complaints had no basis in reality. He asserted as fact that information had been leaked by the FBI or the Justice Department for political purposes. But he has no evidence of that. There could be other sources for that information, including people who Trump might have shown the documents to, or who participated in moving them to Mar-a-Lago, or had helped him review and catalog what he stole from the White House.

This isn’t the first pitifully lame effort by Rubio to exonerate Trump. On Monday he told an NBC reporter that the whole scandalous controversy was “just a storage issue, [and] I don’t think a fight over storage of documents is worthy of what they [the FBI] have done.” Of course. Because why should anyone be concerned that Trump had illegally taken national security materials from the White House, lied about having them when asked, and even subpoenaed, and stored them where unsavory characters could access them?

RELATED: SEMI-FASCIST? Trump Wants the FBI to ‘Raid’ the House of Joe Biden – AKA the White House

Trump has been making many of the same arguments. He is outraged that the FBI took some personal items from his office at Mar-a-Lago. But he makes no attempt to explain why had more than 11,000 documents that are the property of the United States government. But in his defense, the only reason he doesn’t try to explain it is because he’s guilty, and he knows it. Other than that…

Peter Doocy of Fox News Flops Trying to ‘Gotcha’ White House Press Sec Karine Jean-Pierre

The recent history of Donald Trump’s crusade to promulgate the “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged” and “stolen” from him has been validated by numerous sources from across the political spectrum. Even members of Trump’s own administration declared the election legitimate and its results conclusive.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Peter Doocy, Karine Jean-Pierre

That, however, has not deterred Fox News from perpetuating blatant falsehoods and attempting to deflect from the facts with their circus sideshow stunts. The ringleader for these antics is Fox’s White House correspondent, Peter Doocy.

On Tuesday afternoon Doocy demonstrated once again how distant he is from practicing actual journalism. In an exchange with White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, Doocy was dissatisfied with the relevant questions that other reporters were asking, so he interjected his own ludicrous diversion. But, as usual, it was so weak that he was quickly whack-a-moled back into his hole…

Doocy: You tweeted Trump stole an election. You tweeted Brian Kemp stole an election. If denying election results is extreme now, why wasn’t it then?
Jean-Pierre: Let’s be really clear. That comparison that you made is just ridiculous. I was talking specifically at that time about what was happening with voting rights, and what was endangering voting rights. That’s what I was speaking to at the time. And here’s the thing. I have said Gov. Kemp won. President Trump won the election of 2016. And I’ve been clear about that. What we are talking about right now…Let’s not forget what happened on January 6th, 2021. We saw an insurrection, a mob, that was incited by the person who occupied this campus, this facility, at that time. And it was an attack on our democracy. Let’s not forget, people died that day. Law enforcement were attacked that day. That was the danger we were seeing at the time. That was what the President has called out. And that’s what he’s gonna continue to call out.”

Indeed, Doocy’s question was ridiculous for the reasons Jean-Pierre stated. But at least he sort of conceded that “denying election results is extreme.” However,l that isn’t what Jean-Pierre did. She never sought to undermine faith in democracy itself. She was speaking narrowly about the means by which Republicans sought to make voting more difficult for citizens that they assumed would vote against Republicans.

They did this through gerrymandering, closing polling places in Democratic districts, limiting, or cutting entirely, early voting, reducing access to polling places and ballot drop boxes, and other nefarious methods of suppressing the votes of non-Republicans. They even made it illegal to offer food or water to voters who were forced to wait in lines for hours, which only seemed to happen in Democratic precincts.

For the record, the tweets that Doocy referred were posted by Jean-Pierre before she her White House employment. And they were not remotely equivalent to Trump’s wholly fictional allegations of election fraud. One was a response to a bizarre Trump tweet advising that China be allowed to keep an American drone that they had recovered:

The other tweet was a response to an admission by Brian Kemp that he had badly misunderstood the scientific facts about COVID-19.

In both cases Jean-Pierre was making the point that the elections in question were marred, not by fraud, but by dishonesty and efforts to distort the process. And she never disavowed or disputed the outcomes, as Trump and his cohorts in politics and the press are still doing.

Doocy likely knows the difference, but doesn’t care. He thinks that he has latched onto something that he can use to embarrass the White House. Unfortunately for him, he’s only embarrassing himself by dredging up ancient tweets that had nothing to do with the Biden administration, and are utterly irrelevant to Trump’s “Big Lie” about the 2020 election. He is, once again, wasting the time of everyone in the Press Room. And he’s only succeeding at affirming how pitifully unprepared he is for the job he got because his father is a Fox News host.

Fox News Producer Warned Network to Stop Putting Hosts on Air to Spew Election Conspiracy Lies

It’s been almost two years since Joe Biden decisively defeated Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election. And for all of that time Trump has stubbornly insisted that he was the real winner and that the election was “rigged” and “stolen” from him. Never mind that he couldn’t provide a shred of evidence to support his claims and that he lost dozens of lawsuits in a futile and delusional effort to cling to power.

Donald Trump, Fox News, Lies

Trump’s belligerent dishonesty has had numerous deleterious effects on the nation. Most notably, it led directly to a deadly assault on Congress by his cult followers attempting to stage a violent coup and obstruct the peaceful transfer of power. His relentless lying about the election contributed to undermining faith in democracy and fomenting fear and future violence by glassy-eyed StormTrumpers. It also resulted in billion dollar lawsuits against his Ministry of Disinformation – aka Fox News – for spreading election fraud conspiracy theories.

The case of one of the plaintiffs against Fox News, Dominion Voting Systems, has been progressing steadily. It has compelled depositions from Fox News hosts such as Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, Maria Bartiromo, Lou Dobbs, and Jeanine Pirro. And in new a report it has been revealed that the network was well aware that their hosts were disseminating false allegations that Dominion’s voting machines were designed to suppress Trump votes and/or switch them to Biden. NPR reports that…

“The November 2020 email from an anguished Fox News news producer to colleagues sent up a flare amid a fusillade of false claims. The producer warned: Fox cannot let host Jeanine Pirro back on the air. She is pulling conspiracy theories from dark corners of the Web to justify then-President Donald Trump’s lies that the election had been stolen from him.”

Fox News not only let Pirro back on the air, they promoted her to a co-host of Fox’s “The Five,” a top rated daily program. They also continued to allow Hannity, Carlson, Bartiromo, and many others on the air to spread Trump’s lies. NPR continued to say that…

“Dominion’s attorneys have obtained emails, texts, WhatsApp messages and more, documenting how the network’s executives and journalists behaved and acted behind the scenes, as well as determining what they actually knew about the claims, according to three people with knowledge of the litigation. Witnesses have been pressed about the degree to which the Murdochs and Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott were involved in making editorial decisions or kept in the loop.”

When NPR sought a comment from Fox News, they said only that they “were covering the most newsworthy story of that period — the president of the United States claiming election fraud.” Of course that is also a lie. The Fox hosts were not simply reporting what Trump had said. They explicitly alleged that the election was riddled with fraud and that Dominion was among those responsible.

Defamation lawsuits rest on the ability of the plaintiff to show that the defendant knew, or should have known, that what they were saying was false and that they acted with malice. The new evidence does a pretty good job of establishing that. Not that it was necessary. Fox News had been pushing the election fraud lies despite the fact that even members of Trump’s own administration had validated the election as legitimate.

They included Christopher Wray, FBI Director; Benjamin Hovland, of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission; director of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Chris Krebs; and even Attorney General Bill Barr. Barr went so far as to tell ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl (in his recent book “Betrayal”) that “My suspicion all the way along was that there was nothing there. It was all bullshit.”

With all of the legal tribulations bearing down on Trump and his media cohorts, it isn’t surprising that he is becoming ever more unhinged. And much of that lunacy is manifesting in his preposterous excuses for having stolen and hoarded classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago bunker. Look for Trump to sink farther into this abyss of desperation of his own making as the prospect of his being held accountable gets closer.

UPDATE: The lawsuit against Fox News by Smartmatic, a voting software company, is also progressing. A judge just ordered Fox “to start turning over files from a pool of millions of documents that the voting machine company demanded.”

Update II: NPR reports that Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott knew that the election fraud lies the network was promulgating were false. This helps substantiate the defamation case by Dominion against Fox. Scott told her staff, referring to election deniers, that “We can’t give the crazies an inch.” They did anyway. And still do.

SEMI-FASCIST? Trump Wants the FBI to ‘Raid’ the House of Joe Biden – AKA the White House

Last week President Biden delivered a historic speech alerting the American people to the threat posed to democracy by Donald Trump and his MAGA Republicans. It was a long overdue wake up call to take seriously the ultra-rightists who have already committed gross acts of violence in pursuit of a totalitarian, Trump-led dystopia.

Donald Trump, Constitution

Biden’s speech was predictably criticized by conservative politicians and pundits. Some (i.e. Tucker Carlson) excreted their knee-jerk disapproval without even watching the speech. They used what they assumed would be in it to further whine about Biden’s accurate assessment of MAGA’s anti-democratic thuggery. That included griping about Biden’s prior characterization of the MAGA crowd as “semi-fascist.”

Thankfully, Trump can always be relied upon to validate the critiques of his noxious behavior. Whenever he he is accused of some malfeasance, he will inevitably do or say something that proves it. Such was the case Monday morning when Trump took to his floundering Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, to fume the following…

“So they riffled through the living quarters of my 16 year old son, Barron, and the loved and respected former First Lady of the United States, Melania, but, despite proven high crimes and treason, and just plain common theft, all pointed out in the Laptop from Hell (and elsewhere), they never Raided or Broke Into the house of Hunter Biden or, perhaps even more importantly, the house of Joe Biden – A treasure trove! This is a Country that’s unfair and broken. We are truly a Nation in Decline!!!”

First of all, it is almost certainly a lie that the FBI “riffled” through Barron’s room. This is the first time in nearly a month since the search warrant was executed that Trump ever mentioned it. He now appears to be using his own minor son as a shield for his legal tribulations.

Furthermore, Trump is overtly lying about “proven high crimes and treason” by Hunter Biden, for which there is no actual proof. Trump is merely regurgitating tiresome and baseless accusations that he has been yammering about for years. And it takes an extreme measure of gall to complain about “common theft” when he’s referring to the laptop of Hunter Biden, which was literally stolen.

Finally, Trump concludes from this deranged sequence of non-events that Joe Biden’s house should be raided by the FBI. Biden’s house is, of course, the White House. So Trump wants the FBI to conduct some sort of search of the White House, looking for an unspecified “treasure trove” of evidence of some imaginary crime. And he doesn’t think there’s anything semi-fascist about that?

Evidence of Trump’s authoritarian aspirations are revealed more clearly with every passing day. He couldn’t care less about the laws that he is brazenly violating, whether having to do with his election interference, his finances and taxes, or his hoarding of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago bunker. He regards himself as above the law. And by that he means the law of man and God.
