Fox News Faux ‘Experts’ Reject CDC Guidance For People Fully Vaccinated For COVID-19

The chasm between Fox News and reality continues to grow wider every day. Their hosts and guests are devoted to spreading flagrant falsehoods and easily refuted disinformation that contributes massively to the volume of sheer ignorance in America. But worse, it isn’t just idiocy-inducing, it’s dangerous, and even deadly.

Fox News, Covid

On Monday’s edition of Tucker Carlson’s White Nationalist Hour on Fox News (video below), he interviewed a frequent guest, Alex Berenson, whose primary credential for appearing on Fox is his facility for lying about subjects for which he has no knowledge or experience. In this case it’s the coronavirus pandemic. That’s a subject where studies have proven that watching Fox News actually increases fatalities.

Berenson’s prior Fox outings have seen him declaring that masks don’t work, asserting that lockdowns are ineffective and political, and advocating herd immunity by everyone deliberately getting infected. Were Berenson’s advice to be taken tens, maybe hundreds, of thousands more Americans would be dead. But that hasn’t stopped him from disgorging his anti-scientific blather, which Carlson eagerly agrees with.

Carlson introduced Berenson, noting that he was “baffled” by the new CDC guidance for those who have been fully vaccinated. Which might explain Carlson’s perpetual facial contortion. Berenson explained it to Carlson saying that the guidelines are “unrealistic” and that the vaccines themselves are phony:

“It is increasingly clear that the vaccines aren’t quite as effective as that 95% headline figure given. So the honest thing to do say is ‘Look vaccines aren’t 95% effective. They’re not gonna be the miracle that ends this tomorrow, or in a week or a month. We’re still gonna have to live with this on some level.'”

Berenson went on to offer the recklessly fatal advise that “You can drop a lot of the nonsense that we’ve been telling you need to do for the last year,” and that the CDC’s guidance is “totally unrealistic.” To which Carlson replied, in a moment of unintended self-awareness, “Yes, well, lying begets lying.” And who would know that better than Carlson?

Berenson has degrees in economics and history, but nothing relating to medicine or healthcare. Yet he he is presented as an expert on infectious diseases and pandemic management. His shoddy analysis contradicts doctors and epidemiologists with decades of actual relevant experience. But more troubling is that the Fox babble breeds public reluctance to get the vaccine that will not only protect them and their families, it will put the whole nation on a path to normality as virus transmission recedes and variants are suppressed.

Berenson and Carlson pretend to be interested in people being able to live more normal lives, but what they propose will only make that less likely, and only after more tragic loss of life. Why anyone would listen to Berenson is beyond comprehension. Last October he tweeted that projections of “500,000 US #Covid deaths by spring” was an example of the experts being “wrong over and over.”

Berenson may have a point. The actual number to date is more than 525,000, and it isn’t even Spring yet. That’s the sort of “expertise” that Fox News viewers are being fed on a daily basis. It’s a diet of dangerously ignorant lies driven by right-wing politics and ratings. And the sad part is that these cretins simply don’t care how many people suffer due to their egos and greed.

For good measure, in the same program Carlson displayed his rank bigotry by complaining about essential workers being prioritized for vaccine distribution. What bothered him about this is that many people in “essential” occupations are racial and ethnic minorities. Carlson concluded, therefore, that white people (who are currently way over-represented among those vaccinated) would be adversely affected. He called it “eugenics.” And aside from this being a disgusting display of overt racism, it’s also hypocrisy on a grand scale. After all, he doesn’t believe the vaccine is actually effective or needed. So what’s he bitching about? Other than his perception that people of color are being treated fairly for once.

UGH: Lindsey Graham Wants to ‘Harness the Magic’ of Trump While Ignoring His ‘Dark Side’

The perverse devotion of many Republicans to the disgraced, twice-impeached, former reality TV game show host, Donald Trump, continues to entrap them in a quicksand-like sinkhole from which there appears to be no escape. Each day provides more evidence that they are disciples of a cult whose principles consist exclusively of worshipping Dear Leader.

Lindsey Graham, Donald Trump

Among the most spiritually bound Trump-vangelists is Sen. Lindsey Graham, a convert who once described Trump as a “kook,” “crazy” and “unfit for office.” Over the years Graham’s position changed as he concluded that his own fortunes were tightly knitted into Trump’s. He recently issued a bizarre call for the impeachment of Kamala Harris. And the depths of Graham’s devotion was affirmed again in an interview with Jonathan Swan of Axios. In this interview (video below) Graham is seen clinging desperately to Trump and his continued friendship like a security blanket. “Donald Trump was my friend before the [Capitol] riot,” Graham says, “and I’m trying to keep a relationship with him after the riot.”

Graham refers to the Trump Insurrection at the Capitol as “a dark day in American history,” but nevertheless dismisses it as something from which we should just “move forward.” That’s like just moving forward from 9/11 while remaining friends with Osama Bin Laden. To date, Trump still refuses to take responsibility for the Capitol riots. And Graham himself fails to take responsibility for unlawfully pressuring Atlanta election officials to overturn the state’s results by throwing out valid ballots.

Graham believes that the best way to move forward with the “values” of the Republican Party is “with Trump, not without Trump.” Never mind that Trump has embarked on an aggressive campaign to attack Republicans who he has deemed disloyal to him, and to oppose their reelection. And the Party is going along with him.

When Swan directly questions Graham’s support for Trump despite his continued propagation of the Big Lie that the election was “stolen,” Graham dodges the question entirely. In his way, Graham is adopting the Big Lie himself.

Graham says that he wants to “harness the magic” of Trump’s “movement,” while ignoring his “dark side.” He could say the same thing about Satan. Then he claims that Trump is a “cross between Jesse Helms, Ronald Reagan, and P.T. Barnum,” as if it’s a good thing to be like a notorious racist, a disgraced president who traded arms for hostages, and a professional showman and huckster.

Graham praised Trump as the only person he knows who “can make [the Republican Party] bigger.” [GOP registration dropped from 31% in 2016 to 26% currently]; “He can make it stronger.” [Trump still has the lowest approval rating of any modern president]; “He can make it more diverse” [Trump has exacerbated racism, misogyny, homophobia, and xenophobia]; “And he also could destroy it [Okay, we’ll give him that one]” For some reason, Graham thinks that the best way forward for the GOP is someone who presided over the loss of the House, the Senate, and the White House.

Graham is typical of the Republican bootlickers who are too afraid of angering the Orange Menace for fear that he will sic his rabid QAninnies on them. But that fear will doom them to a perpetual minority status on the political landscape if the GOP even manages to survive without breaking apart. And while this is good news for Democrats in the long term, it still holds short term perils for the nation as Trump’s hostilities are spread like a virus through the body politic by infectious agents like Fox News.

SO WHAT? The Dumbest Man on Fox News Isn’t ‘Inspired’ By Biden’s Schedule

Viewers of Fox News have always been suckered into an alternative reality that advances the interests of ultra-rightists and conspiracy crackpots. And that mission is still being pursued by Fox News as they attempt to construct a world in which President Joe Biden doesn’t even exist. it’s a fantasy that feeds the yearnings of Fox’s most avid followers.

In the six weeks since Biden’s inauguration, Fox News has struggled to come up with legitimate, or even plausible, criticisms. Biden’s nascent presidency has already succeeded in profound ways that the American people are solidly in favor of. Consequently, Fox’s hysterical efforts to malign Biden have produced nothing but ludicrous faux outrages and well deserved mockery. How else to respond to relentless and utterly false contrivances about Dr. Seuss and Mr. Potato Head?

Into this torrent of turpitude comes Jesse Watters, widely recognized as “The Dumbest Man on Fox News.” And that’s not an easy dishonor to achieve. On the Saturday evening episode of his program, Watters sought to belittle Biden’s work ethic:

“The President hasn’t been working up a sweat. He calls lids early. He goes to bed early. He takes weekends off. I see his schedule. It’s not inspiring.”

Really? First of all, who cares if Watters is “inspired” by Biden’s productivity? It is a foregone conclusion that he – and the rest of his Fox confederates – are going to be dismissive of everything that Biden and the Democrats do. But more to the point, Watters is so wildly off base it’s laughable. Every point in his mini-rant is patently false. Leaving out his his infantile reference to presidential perspiration, let’s look at each of Watters’ assertions:

  • Watters apparently doesn’t know what a “lid” is. For the record, it’s a term used by the White House communications office to indicate that there won’t be any public statements or events for the remainder of the day. It isn’t invoked by the President, and it doesn’t mean he/she isn’t working.
  • Watters has no idea what time Biden goes to bed, and it isn’t something that is reported on the White House schedule. Although sufficient sleep is critical for good health. Trump’s team brags about his long hours, but sleep deprivation diminishes mental acuity, produces hallucinations, and causes anxiety and psychoses. There’s a reason it’s used as a form of torture.
  • This weekend Biden was working on his COVID relief and stimulus plan, which passed in the Senate late Saturday. He also signed an executive order on expanding access to voting. He also presided over vaccine production and administration. And, by the way, he spent some quality time with his family.

If Watters wants to take a president to task for hardly working, he missed his chance while Trump was occupying the White House. Watters never once complained that Trump played golf at least 298 times (an average of once every five days) at a cost of $145 million taxpayer dollars (paid to his own golf resorts). Nor was Watters bothered by Trump’s “executive time,” which consisted primarily of tweeting and watching hour after hour of Fox News. And who can count the wasted hours Trump spent performing his psycho-comedy routine for the cultish followers at campaign rallies that Watters effusively praised?

While Watters claims to have seen Biden’s schedule, his vision must have been severely impaired during Trump’s term. In fact, Watters was perfectly satisfied with Trump’s schedule when it said only that “President Trump will work from early in the morning until late in the evening. He will make many calls and have many meetings.” And not a peep about how much he sweats. Meanwhile, on Fox News…

Newsmax Loses Half Its Addled Audience as Prophecies of Trump’s Resurrection Wane

As the thrill of sedition passes from the glazed-over eyes of Trump’s Insurrectionist Brigades, the appeal of ultra-rightist, Trump-fluffing “news” sources fades significantly. Newsmax had a brief dalliance in the sunlight of Trump’s ego-driven plugs, but the sun has now set and Newsmax retreated to the darkness of its wingnut lair.

Donald Trump Messiah

Not only have the hopes of the QAnon crackpots dwindled as every one of their loopy prophecies failed to materialize, but their Patron Saint of Mar-a-Lago can’t even promote the network on the social media platforms from which he’s been banished. Consequently, the fortunes of Newsmax have declined precipitously:

“In the weeks following the election, Newsmax saw ratings highs as viewers, disappointed by Donald Trump’s loss to President Joe Biden, turned to Newsmax for comfort, as the network continued to perpetuate baseless claims of voter fraud. […] But in the last week of February, Newsmax had lost 51% of its audience in total day [55% in primetime] since its viewership peaked the week of November 16, 2020.”

That’s right. With the crumbling of the QAnon-sense yearnings for Trump to be inaugurated for a second term blown away by the harsh winds of reality, the network that was most prominently propagating the Big Lie that Trump won the 2020 election (and is being sued for defamation) and that he would soon return victorious to the White House, has seen its viewers scamper away to their dens of idiocy.

In the last days of Trump’s Twitter tirades, he spent an inordinate amount of time and energy bashing Fox News. As an alternative, Trump offered up Newsmax and One America News Network (OANN) where the crazy was still in abundant supply. But now those days are gone. The conspiracy theories have all been exhausted, not that they ever had any credibility – or sanity.

Meanwhile, Trump is still hiding out in his Mar-a-Lago bunker. And due to his banishment from Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, he can no longer prop up the screwball networks that championed his messianic mission. It’s a pathetic tale of woe that would surely tear at the heartstrings of the Trumpian cultists, if they had hearts.

Stupid Reporter Tricks: Question About ‘A Lot of Americans,’ Turns Out to Be Just Trump

Joe Biden’s Press Secretary, Jen Psaki, has brought back the daily press briefings that were canceled during the anti-press administration of Donald Trump. This White House no longer believes that the press is “the enemy of the people.” But that doesn’t mean that the questions posed are going to be particularly enlightening.

Jen Psaki

We can rely on Fox News to ignore the Biden presidency (as they have been doing thus far). Likewise, Fox will continue to be antagonistic toward Biden and the Democrats (as their CEO admitted is the network’s mission). But they won’t be alone. On Friday CBS News reporter Weijia Jiang had an interesting framing for her questions:

Jiang: A lot of Americans are saying that, you know, the [immigrant] surges are happening under President Biden’s watch after he reversed some previous policy. So does the administration take any accountability for what’s happening?
Psaki: Who are the Americans?
Jiang: Well, I know you don’t want to answer to him, but the former President just released a statement saying that, “The Biden Administration must act immediately to end the border nightmare that they have unleashed onto our nation.”
Psaki: Former President Trump? We don’t take our advice or counsel from former President Trump on immigration policy, which was not only inhumane but ineffective over the last four years.

OUCH! That was a rookie mistake trying to pass off Trump as “a lot of Americans.” The White House press corps needs to come better prepared than that for future interactions with this press secretary. Psaki obviously isn’t the airhead propagandist that they became accustomed to under the Trump regime.

Fox News Obsesses Over Biden Press Conferences – That They Refuse to Air

For four years Fox News covered virtually every public utterance by Donald Trump live and uninterrupted. They aired his cult rallies, his Coronavirus Task Force briefings, his staged, photo-op bill signings, his random and rancid rants, his lie-riddled “chopper talks,” and more. The network could have been re-branded as a 24/7 Trump Channel.

Donald Trump Fox News

Now that Joe Biden is residing in the White House, Fox News has adopted an entirely different editorial approach to covering the President of the United States. And it isn’t just the blatantly negative bias against Biden that Fox’s CEO recently admitted is the core of their mission. That bias is remarkably strained because Fox has so little of substance to complain about. Consequently they focus on absurd and irrelevant distractions like Biden’s dog, Neanderthals, Mr. Potato Head, and Dr. Seuss. That’s emblematic of Fox’s editorial priorities.

Meanwhile, there has been a flurry of verbal venom aimed at Biden for his alleged reluctance to face questions from the press. However, while he hasn’t held a formal news conference, he has taken questions on numerous occasions addressing such critical and diverse subjects as containing the COVID-19 pandemic, and providing relief and stimulus; racial equity; climate change; healthcare; and immigration.

Clearly Biden has a lot on his plate following the calamitous tenure of Trump. These are matters of profound importance that need to be tackled with an appropriate sense of urgency. There will be plenty of time for press conferences once the nation’s stability and security have been restored. Jen Psaki, Biden’s press secretary, has indicated that a press conference will be scheduled before the end of March. But that hasn’t calmed the dread that is consuming Fox News. For the past few days they have demonstrated just how obsessed they are with this non-scandal as seen in these headlines:

  • Hidin’ Biden – still no presidential press conference but Dems like basement strategy
  • White House ‘protecting’ Biden by not scheduling press conferences: Karl Rove
  • Biden team ‘has zero confidence’ that ‘absentee president’ can handle press conference
  • Biden still hasn’t held a press conference after 43 days in office
  • Psaki says Biden will hold press conference ‘before the end of the month’
  • Kayleigh McEnany: Biden vowed ‘transparency’ but has still not held a solo press conference

How many times do they have to do the same story? McEnany, Trump’s fourth and final press secretary who has already been hired by Fox News, “bragged” about Trump’s availability to the press saying that “He was always willing to take questions, always willing to go to the podium, always willing to stop on his way to the helicopter.” What she left out was that Trump spent most of that time lying and insulting the reporters.

On another segment McEnany wondered “Where’s Joe? It’s been 41 days.” Her new Fox colleague, Sean Hannity, similarly asked “Where is our commander-in-chief? You know, that new guy?” But what has the pungent stench of hypocrisy is that Fox News wouldn’t cover Biden’s press conferences if they were being held.

To date Fox News has not aired a single White House press briefing, which the Biden team has returned to doing daily. Nor have they aired a single press conference by the White House COVID-19 Response Team. Recall that Fox News aired every similar event during the Trump administration. Fox didn’t even air the congressional hearings on the January 6th Trump Insurrection.

Given their disinterest in what President Biden has to say – unless they can distort it to make him look bad – the complaints by Fox News about press conferences are irrelevant and should be ignored. We know that when Biden does hold a press conference, Fox will be covering the “canceling” of a Muppet, or a shady pillow huckster, or some other ridiculous, politically partisan, culture war demagoguery. It’s what they do.

Fox News CEO Murdoch Admits that the Network Opposes Biden – For Ratings

When Fox News launched twenty-six years ago, its mission was to advance the interests of conservatives and Republicans, and to serve as a partisan counterweight to credible news enterprises and honest journalists. While that was no secret, it’s founders – right-wing newspaper magnate Rupert Murdoch and GOP media consultant Roger Ailes – pretended to be “fair and balanced,” a slogan that falsely implied that other news operations were not (and which Fox ditched four years ago).

Fox News, Joe Biden

This week Rupert’s son, Lachlan Murdoch, who is now the network’s CEO, spoke at a Morgan Stanley investor conference where he said the quiet parts out loud. Apparently, in the Era of Trump and QAnon, it is no longer necessary to veil their biases in cheesy slogans. Murdoch said that…

“‘The main beneficiary of the Trump administration from a ratings point of view was MSNBC … and that’s because they were the loyal opposition,’ Murdoch said of the rival cable network. ‘That’s what our job is now with the Biden administration, and you’ll see our ratings really improve from here.'” […]

“‘Seventy-five million people voted for a Republican president, sometimes in spite of his personality at times,’ Murdoch said. ‘That’s what we represent. We’re going to stick to the center-right. That’s where our audience is.'”

Murdoch was obviously making excuses for the fact that, since the election last November, Fox News has slipped to third place in the cable news wars, behind MSNBC and CNN. Rachel Maddow is now the number one program in all of cable, not just cable news:

However, Murdoch’s explanation is peculiar in that he is also admitting that Fox News is “the loyal opposition” to the the administration of President Joe Biden. That’s wholly inappropriate from a journalistic ethics standpoint. Plus, it implies that they were affirmatively supporting Donald Trump for the past four years. Of course, anyone with a functioning cerebrum knew this, but it was rarely stated explicitly in public by Fox News executives.

What’s more, Murdoch is also saying that the reasons for his network’s blatant bias is for ratings. That’s also improper in the news business, where truth is the standard to which honest journalists aspire. Truth, of course, was the first casualty of Fox’s mangling of the reporter’s craft.

And as if that weren’t bad enough, Murdoch went on to concede the repugnant nature of Trump’s personality, or lack thereof. Yet he is still supporting him because of the voters he hopes to keep as viewers. Murdoch outright slams Trump’s noxious demeanor and, in the same sentence, declares that that’s what Fox News represents, and will continue doing so.

The position that Murdoch is taking is not acceptable for any enterprise that purports to be in the news business. And while he seemingly spoke for MSNBC, NBC didn’t appreciate that presumptuousness:

“A spokesperson for NBCUniversal News Group, which includes NBC News and MSNBC, said in response that ‘our role, and the role of any legitimate news organization — whether it includes an ‘opinion section’ or not — is to hold power to account, regardless of party.'”

And therein lies the difference between Fox News and its competitors. While other news networks may have opinions, they are based on facts and applied uniformly. At Fox News their overt negativity is always aimed the Democrats and the liberals whom they regard as enemies (as conveniently illustrated by Tucker Carlson) this week. Fox’s extreme political prejudice has even irritated other members of the Murdoch family. Lachlan’s big brother James complained about the “toxic” politics practiced by Fox News:

“Those outlets that propagate lies to their audience have unleashed insidious and uncontrollable forces that will be with us for years. […] Spreading disinformation – whether about the election, public health or climate change – has real world consequences.”

That pretty much says it all. And it comes from a source that is embedded well inside the Fox bubble. Unfortunately, James has nothing to do with the network any more, other than being a shareholder. But when Daddy Murdoch is “off the air” that may change. And then, so may Fox.

Fox News Projection: Tucker Carlson Rants Incoherently About ‘Fearful’ Liberals

Concluding a week wherein Fox News was obsessively consumed with their contrived “cancel culture” outrages over Mr. Potato Head and Dr. Seuss, their star primetime bloviator, Tucker Carlson, unleashed a sweaty assault on the liberals he despises. Unsurprisingly, it revealed more about himself than his targets.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson

The theme of Carlson’s psycho-sermon (video below) was that “Modern liberalism is not a coherent worldview […] It’s a deeply unhappy, high-strung personality type.” Anyone who has watched more than a few minutes of Carlson’s program recognizes that this is pure projection. It is also an accurate description of modern rightists as represented by Donald Trump, the Republican Party, and most of the talent(less) on Fox News. Carlson led off his rant by inventing a reality wherein…

“Liberals are a fearful group. The list of things American liberals are afraid of can fill an entire shelf of volumes. It would make an amusing reference set: The Encyclopedia of Liberal Neuroses Unabridged. Absolutely everything upsets liberals, agitates them, and inflames their allergies. Nature itself is a terrifying experience for liberals because they can’t control it.”

Really? If fear and anger are what’s triggering Carlson, he’s missing the real world by a light year or two. It isn’t liberals who have been whining about toys and children’s books for a solid week. It isn’t liberals who censured their own party members for thinking independently. It isn’t liberals who attended CPAC (the Conservative Political Action Cult), and cheered a hysterically angry and frightened Trump harangue. It’s obviously Carlson and his confederates who are upset, agitated, and inflamed, by anything and everything that even mildly criticizes their precious wingnut dogma. But Carlson really skidded off the tracks when he declared that…

“A lot of liberals were certain that March 4, was the day the right-wing revolution would finally begin. March 4, they believed, with something called ‘QAnon Inauguration Day.’ What is QAnon Inauguration Day? We have no idea, and we don’t know anyone who does.”

To be clear, Carlson is admitting that he’s an ignorant dickwad who has no comprehension of current events. That’s a distinct liability for someone on what purports to be a “news” network. He then goes on to describe how the crackpot QAnon conspiracy theory that he never heard of was actually very well known and even warned about by Republicans in Congress. Yet somehow, Carlson – and everyone he knows – never heard of it.

Carlson also belittles the efforts of law enforcement and the National Guard, who prevented additional violence by the StormTrumpers in the days following the January 6th Trump Insurrection. He likens the National Guard to martinets of third-world tyrannical regimes. Is that his way of thanking them for their service?

Carlson suggests that providing security in the face of credible threats, validated by the FBI and Capitol Police, means that the concept of ruling by the consent of the governed is obsolete and anti-democratic. He believes that members of Congress should remain vulnerable to attacks by radical white nationalists or they aren’t really representing their constituents.

That’s really the bottom line for Carlson. He’s fearful and angry that he won’t be able to use force and threats to advance his racist ideology. And somehow Fox News continues to allow him to air this crap.

Texas Governor Whines to Fox News, Blames Biden, After Recklessly Revoking COVID Rules

Much of the country is heaving a sigh of relief as President Biden’s program for increasing the availability of vaccines and the administration of vaccinations has resulted in fewer infections, hospitalizations, and deaths. But that real world sentiment isn’t seeping into the fallacy-sealed craniums of Donald Trump’s glassy-eyed cultists.

Fox News, Covid

On Thursday morning the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, visited Fox News for a typically lie-riddled rant wherein he sought to justify his risky abandonment of all COVID related regulations in the state. Local health officials, as well as the CDC, immediately condemned Abbott’s edict as “premature” and “reckless.” Experts overwhelmingly agree that maintaining the practices of social distancing and mask wearing is necessary to overcome the coronavirus and return to a state of normality. So naturally, Abbott dismisses the experts and the science in favor of awkwardly shifting blame to Biden. He told Fox News that…

“The Biden administration was releasing illegal immigrants into our communities who had COVID. The Biden administration was spreading COVID in South Texas yesterday because of the lack of constraint, of testing and quarantining people who come across the border illegally. The Biden administration was exposing Texans to COVID. That is “Neanderthal” approach to dealing with the COVID situation.”

Abbott’s brazen dishonesty puts him on par with the former Liar-in-Chief, Donald Trump. The Border Patrol is processing asylum requests according to the law, and the law hasn’t changed in the past six weeks. So nothing about that can be attributed to the Biden administration. What’s more, it’s interesting to note that Abbott is asserting that Texans are now facing greater exposure to the coronavirus, but he’s still eliminating the safeguards that would protect his constituents.

However, Abbott’s lies are even worse when taking into account the most recent COVID data in the state as it relates to immigration. Local officials reported that…

“Since the City [of Brownsville] started testing the migrants on January 25, there has been 6.3% of positive cases. The Cameron County positivity rate is 13.8%.”

So immigrants are testing positive at a lower rate than native Texans. The positivity rate statewide is 12.7%. And new cases rose 27% in the past week. These statistics show not only that Abbott is purposefully lying, but they also show the foolishness of his policy to remove the restrictions and allow the virus free rein to infect – and kill – more people in a state that is already near the bottom with regard to COVID cases and fatalities.

One can never underestimate the callousness and cruelty of power-mad Republicans like Abbott. After all, he has already gotten his vaccination, and he lives in a highly secure mansion where he doesn’t have to mingle with the riff raff he rules over, and who he is forcing to live in a more dangerous world. Just like his colleague “Cancun” Ted Cruz. That’s business as usual for the GOP (Greedy One Percent).

Where’s Trump? And Why Isn’t He Ordering His QAnon Troops to Stand Down on March 4?

It has been less than two months since Donald Trump’s Insurrectionist Brigades attacked Congress and the very heart of American democracy. Five people died, and many dozens more were injured. Trump’s incendiary rhetoric in the months and hours prior to the attack clearly show that his role was instrumental in inciting the violent mob.

Trump Charlotsville

Now there is another threat that looms over Washington, D.C. The same criminals who conducted the traitorous riots on January 6th are threatening more violence for March 4th. CNN reports that…

“US officials on Wednesday alerted lawmakers to a potential threat against the US Capitol on March 4, for which security has been enhanced as a precaution, less than two months after the Capitol complex was stormed and lawmakers’ lives were threatened by rioters.

“Information provided by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security warned of increased chatter among extremists, including members of the Three Percenters extremist group, discussing possible plots against the Capitol on March 4, a date that conspiracy theorists have focused on, according to sources familiar with the matter.”

This news raises more questions about where Trump stands in this war against America. We know that he did nothing to stop his seditious supporters on January 6th. And he’s being equally negligent now. Jake Tapper of CNN raised this question, asking Republican congressman Michael McCaul whether Trump has a responsibility to intervene:

Tapper: It seems to me that, whether we’re talking about the attack on January 6th or this possible attack tomorrow, President Trump – these people, these attackers worship him. They love him. They think that they’re doing this in his name. Do you think Donald Trump should be saying more forcefully, clearly. ‘I’m not gonna be inaugurated tomorrow. Joe Biden was elected fair and square.’ That could potentially quell a lot of these violent threats.
McCaul: President Trump has the responsibility to tell them to stand down. This threat is credible. It’s real. It’s a right-wing militia group that believes that because the original inauguration date was March 4th until the 20th Amendment passed, they think that this is the true inauguration day and that President Trump should be inaugurated tomorrow. And that is the threat we face right now.

Exactly! And yet, Trump is nowhere to be found. He could have a significant influence on the glassy-eyed disciples of his perverse cult. They are awaiting his orders. He could prevent more violence and harm. But he’s holed up in his Mar-a-Lago bunker and, not unlike his gross and deliberate inaction on January 6th, he’s probably enjoying the prospect of a horde of StormTrumpers breaking down doors, smashing windows, and shedding blood.

All Trump needs to do is stand before a camera and insist that his goons stay home and refrain from any violent activity. But Trump isn’t making that simple gesture. Why do you suppose that is?
