Trump Takes Credit for Rupert Murdoch Retiring, then Takes Aim at ‘Democrat’ Mitch McConnell

This week the Mediaverse was startled by the news that Rupert Murdoch, Master of Fox News and myriad other right-wing propaganda, has retired. While this was an unexpected announcement, it is not particularly earthshattering. Murdoch had previously put his son Lachlan in charge and was not making day to day decisions.

However, the biggest beneficiary of Murdoch’s ultra-conservative Fox News Channel in recent years has undoubtedly been Donald Trump. They featured him on the air, covered his cult rallies, defended every criticism, and attacked his political opponents. For all intents and purposes, they had become the “Trump News Network.” And what did they get for it?

After having been the recipient of perpetual Trump-fluffing from the moment he descended on his golden escalator, Trump is now somewhat less than grateful. It took him 24 hours to even mention the retirement of Murdoch. And when he did so, he neither thanked nor praised Old Rupe. Instead, he took a backhanded slap by passively-aggressively taking credit for Murdoch stepping down…

“Many people are saying that,’You forced Rupert Murdoch into retirement!’ I do not believe this is so, but while we’re at it, how about getting rid of ‘Democrat’ Mitch McConnell, who gives the Radical Left Lunatics, together with his small band of automatic ‘yes’ votes, EVERYTHING they want. There is ZERO Republican Leadership in the United States Senate. MAGA!!!”

Don’t be fooled by Trump claiming that he doesn’t believe that he “forced Rupert Murdoch into retirement.” His cliché assertion that “Many people are saying…” is his way of pretending that it’s others – always unidentified – not him, who are giving him the credit that he so plainly doesn’t deserve.

There are other, better reasons for Murdoch retiring. For starters, he is 92 years old and has had some recent health problems. He is also likely to be seeking relief from all of the legal tribulations of Fox News. They just agreed to a 3/4 of billion dollar defamation lawsuit settlement, and more lawsuits are pending. Now he can dump all of that in Lachlan’s lap and set sail on his yacht.

Don’t expect much change at Fox News under Lachlan’s reign. He is at least as conservative as his father. However, when Rupert passes on, his voting shares in the corporation will likely be distributed among his four eldest children. And since James and Elizabeth are more left-leaning, their combined shares could be enough to oust Lachlan and take over.

Trump’s ungrateful neglect of Murdoch was made worse by his exploiting the opportunity to lash out at a different foe. Trump has been bashing Republican minority leader Mitch McConnell for several years. And now he is openly calling for him to retire. Which isn’t much of a stretch considering McConnell’s recent cognitive glitches.

However, Trump goes further with an utterly deranged description of McConnell as a “Democrat” who “gives the Radical Left Lunatics…EVERYTHING they want.” This is the same McConnell whose knee-jerk conservativism delivered three Supreme Court justices for Trump. Then Trump closes by insulting the rest of his congressional confederates as providing “ZERO Republican Leadership in the United States Senate.” That includes reliable Trump toadies such as Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, and Tommy Tuberville.

All of this is further evidence of how deeply disturbed Trump is and how rapidly his decline is accelerating. He can’t distinguish between rational Democrats and extremist Republicans. He is obsessed with even the slightest bit of perceived criticism, and he has forsaken his most adamant admirers at Fox News. He is becoming more and more isolated in his own anxieties and fantastical delusions. And yet, he remains the leading candidate for the Republication nomination for president. Which tells you all you need to know about the Republican Party, Trump, and Fox News.

Squeaker McCarthy Laments Learning that the GOP’s Mission is to ‘Burn the Whole Place Down’

The chaos and incompetence that marks the Republican Party’s alleged management of the House of Representatives is spiraling ever downward. The GOP’s razor-thin, and likely short-lived, majority is proving that their party is utterly unfit to govern.

In the eight months that Republican leader Kevin McCarthy has been in charge, the GOP agenda has been narrowly focused on defending their Dear Leader Donald Trump from his dozens of pending felony charges, and on struggling to magnify Hunter Biden’s personal troubles into a monstrous political scandal. They have failed pitifully on both counts. Not that they care, since their overarching goal from the start has just been to smear President Biden and other Democrats.

The latest example of the GOP’s flaming ineptitude is their inability to pass the defense appropriations bill. That’s usually one of the easiest congressional tasks that garners bipartisan support. And with only days before a government shutdown would be invoked if the legislation – or a Continuing Resolution – isn’t passed, the GOP stalemate persists.

Under McCarthy’s “leadership” the House has now failed twice to pass even a vote to bring up the defense bill for debate. And following the second humiliation, McCarthy vented his frustrations to the press saying that…

“It’s frustrating in the sense that I don’t understand how anyone votes against bringing the idea up and having the debate. And then you’ve got all the amendments if you don’t like the bill. This is a whole new concept of individuals that just want to burn the whole place down. That doesn’t work.”

To be clear, the “individuals” that McCarthy is referring to are members of his own caucus who are hell-bent on sabotaging the legislation unless they get their way. That means weighing down the bill with unrelated irrelevancies such as mandating single-subject appropriations bills, subpoenaing Hunter Biden, and commencing impeachment hearings. Never mind that any bill with anything like those matters in it will never pass in the Senate and the government will be forced to shutdown. Which is what many in the Republican Party actually want.

What’s curious about McCarthy’s whining is that he seems to be learning for the first time that Republicans have always been the party of government failure. Their long-time platform and campaign slogan has been that government doesn’t work. And whenever they have held any measure of power, they did their best to prove it. It is hardly, as McCarthy complained, a “new concept.”

Not to be left out, Trump made his interests known in a posting on his failing social media scam, Truth Social. After making a superfluous aside about his fabled border wall, Trump got to the point of his directive, which typically was focused solely on himself…

“A very important deadline is approaching at the end of the month. Republicans in Congress can and must defund all aspects of Crooked Joe Biden’s weaponized Government that refuses to close the Border, and treats half the Country as Enemies of the State. This is also the last chance to defund these political prosecutions against me and other Patriots. They failed on the debt limit, but they must not fail now. Use the power of the purse and defend the Country!”

So Trump is insisting that his minions in Congress “must defund” what he calls a “weaponized Government.” And if that wasn’t clear enough that he wants them to interfere with the duties of the Justice Department, he elaborated saying that this is “the last chance to defund these political prosecutions against me.”

Unfortunately for Trump, he is too self-obsessed and ignorant to know that the Office of the Special Counsel is funded independently and the House of Representatives has no authority to unilaterally obstruct its operations. So Trump’s desperate yearning to impose his will on Congress and evade accountability for his crimes is just more wistful wailing into the void.

This is the environment within which McCarthy must find a way to keep both the government and his speakership post active. And given his demonstrated impotence, it’s unlikely he can succeed. His excuse is that his majority is just too small to work with. But Nancy Pelosi had the same small majority and managed pass numerous significant bill, including the American Rescue Plan to restore the economy and create jobs; the Infrastructure Act to rebuild America’s roads, bridges, airports, and communications; the Inflation Reduction Act that also advanced projects to mitigate climate change; the CHIPS Act to bring technology manufacturing back to the U.S.; and the PACT Act to expand veterans health care.

That’s what can be achieved by a party that believes that government is there to pursue the interests of the people. And McCarthy’s moaning about his mini-majority won’t fool anyone that he’s interested in serving the people.

In Trump’s Addled, Alternate Reality, Biden Spoke at the United Nations and ‘Nobody Showed Up’

The United Nations is currently holding its annual General Assembly meeting in New York City wherein diplomats from around the world congregate to discuss shared interests and advance the cause of peace and unity. This year is a particularly notable one due to the ongoing war by Russia against its neighbor Ukraine.

On Tuesday, President Biden delivered an impassioned speech that addressed many pressing issues, including the Ukraine matter and Russia’s unprovoked aggression and war crimes. Biden was received with respect and admiration from the audience of international ambassadors (video below).

It was quite a contrast from the waves of laughter that Donald Trump triggered with his preposterous assertion that he had “accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country.” Even funnier was how Fox News tried to clean up after him the next day.

Biden was forthright in his advocacy of American values and the reasons that our aid to Ukraine is so important. Among the moving passages from his speech were the following…

“Russia alone bears responsibility for this war. Russia alone has the power to end this war immediately. And it’s Russia alone that stands in the way of peace because Russia’s price of peace is Ukraine’s capitulation, Ukraine’s territory, and Ukraine’s children.”

“If we abandon the core principles of the U.N. Charter to appease an aggressor, can any member state feel confident that they are protected?”

“We have to stand up to this naked aggression today and deter other would be aggressors tomorrow.”

Naturally, Trump was feeling neglected because the spotlight of media attention had shifted away from him. So he unleashed a bitter and bizarre commentary on his failing social media scam, Truth Social, in a desperate attempt to steal some of Biden’s thunder. Trump whined that…

“Biden just finished his surrender (‘speech’) at the United Nations, and nobody, despite all we give them, showed up. No respect for America any longer!”

Apparently Trump defines “surrender” as being committed to fighting for the sovereignty of free nations and defeating imperialistic tyrants like Trump’s pal, Vladimir Putin. As for his ridiculous claim that “nobody showed up,” maybe he just means nobody cracked up, like they did when he spoke. And he has a concept of respect that is clearly distorted by his malignant narcissism. The one thing that’s certain is that Trump is in a severe state of mental decline, and it’s getting worse by the hour.

HUH? Fox News Can’t Figure Out Why Democrats Support Democrats Over Republicans for President

The bitter and blatantly partisan biases of Fox News have been evident since its inception nearly thirty years ago. But despite the fact that their political prejudices are well known, they still persist in pretending that they are a legitimate journalistic enterprise. They aren’t fooling anyone.

Nevertheless, Fox News continues to make believe they’re just like other mainstream media outlets. And that futile effort just becomes more conspicuously preposterous every day. You might think that after three decades of dishonest propaganda, Fox News would have gotten pretty good at it. But that is clearly not the case. Even with their hyperactive coverage of the bogus Biden impeachment inquiry being pushed by the Republicans in the House of Representatives, Fox can’t produce a coherent argument to support their position.

On Monday morning the cast of Fox’s “Outnumbered,” wherein four conservative women and one right-wing man bash President Biden for an hour, did a segment on a recent CNN poll that found 67% of Democrats were open to candidates other than Biden for president. Setting aside their newfound respect for “fake news” CNN, the Foxies found themselves in a quandary regarding the question on Democratic voter preferences. Their confusion manifested in the following exchange between co-host Harris Faulkner and fellow co-host Kayleigh McEnany (who is also Donald Trump’s former press secretary)…

McEnany: What we are seeing in polling is that 67% of Democrats are say they want a different candidate than Joe Biden.
Faulkner: The problem with that are the 33% that actually want Biden. And the 67% aren’t saying that they’ll take, as I like to say, anybody but Biden. They might not take a Republican. And that is the challenge here. Yeah, they might take a Gavin Newsom or a Gretchen Whitmer, we can’t figure out why, but they might over a Republican.”

So Faulkner and her confederates “can’t figure out why” Democratic voters would prefer Democratic candidates for president over Republicans? Let’s see if we can’t help them out a bit, shall we?

To begin with, Democrats are Democrats. That ought to end the debate right there. But Fox News and Republicans are so ideologically isolated, and so far removed from reality, that they can’t imagine anyone supporting the party that has brought more liberty, equality, and prosperity to the United States than any other party.

So let’s give them a little more to chew on. The examples that Faulkner gave as possible Biden alternatives – Gavin Newsom of California and Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan – are two of the most successful and effective governors in America. They could be joined by Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, Andy Beshear of Kentucky, Wes Moore of Maryland, and any number of Democrats in other state and federal offices. And that includes Vice-President Kamala Harris. The Democrats have a decidedly deep bench if they need one. Which they don’t, since Biden is running with a record of unprecedented success.

Perhaps the best reason for, not only Democrats but all Americans, to vote for a Democrat is the person currently leading the Republican Party’s primary contest, Donald Trump. The nation certainly doesn’t need a twice-impeached, four-time indicted (on 91 felony counts), ultra-rightist, financially corrupt, Putin-loving, pathological liar, and rapist, who led a violent insurrection to overthrow the government, to be given another opportunity to advance his authoritarian aspirations.

What’s more, the rest of the GOP field (DeSantis, Ramaswamy, Haley, Scott, Pence, etc.) aren’t any better. They are all conservative extremists who oppose the American people on most issues, including abortion, taxes, immigration, guns, climate change, education, etc. They also pledged to support Trump if he is the eventual nominee, even if he is convicted of numerous felonies.

Yet somehow, the folks on Fox News can’t comprehend why anyone would support Democrats for president or any other office. That’s because the Foxies and GOP politicos don’t really give a damn about America or the American people. They are fixated solely on their quest for power and personal greed. And on that measure, they have many candidates who will satisfy them. So expect Fox News to remain loyal to the greediest, most corrupt, power seeker of them all, Donald Trump. In fact, Fox News is just as culpable for the crimes of Trump as Trump is himself.

Trump Bombs on Meet the Press, Behaving Like a Petulant Toddler Who Couldn’t Stop Lying

In what will come as a surprise to virtually nobody with a functioning brain, Donald Trump humiliated himself in another interview wherein he tried desperately to defend his twisted perceptions of a world that only a severely malignant narcissist could manufacture.

On Sunday morning Trump’s interview with Kristen Welker of Meet the Press aired. It was an abbreviated version of the full encounter that was rife with lies, paranoia, and wholly undue self-exaltation. Trump behaved throughout like an obstinate child who didn’t get his way. He couldn’t answer a single question without diverting – over and over again – to tangential matters. He incessantly repeated his delusional distortions of reality as if in a broken loop. Welker had to keep dragging him back to the subject of her question as if he were a mental patient who refused to pay attention.

The failure of Trump to coherently express himself was not a result Welker’s masterful interviewing skills, She struggled to keep him track, missed opportunities to correct his blatant dishonesty, and showed him a measure of respect that is entirely inappropriate for a disgraced former leader who is under multiple criminal indictments on dozens of felony charges.

Nevertheless, Welker’s shortcomings didn’t prevent the real deficiencies of Trump from coming through. Anyone who has the time to waste should scan through the transcript to see how pitifully bereft Trump is of intelligence and integrity. He misrepresented the truth on every issue that was discussed. And NBC News only bothered to fact-check him in a separate article that was published only online. A few examples include…

On Immigration:
Trump: I saw some statistics and it said in 2019, there were no terrorists. They caught no terrorists. And now this year, it’s a record number like they’ve never seen before.
Fact: 216 people on the terrorist watchlist were apprehended this year. There were 280 in 2019 during the Trump administration.

On Pardoning January 6th Insurrectionists:
Trump: These people on Jan. 6. Some of them never even went into the building, and they’re being given sentences of many years.
Fact: Those who received the longest sentences were leaders of the insurrection, including Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio and Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes. And others who didn’t enter the Capitol had committed assaults on police officers outside.

On Election Fraud:
Trump: If this were ever before a court, we would win so easy. There is so much evidence that the election was rigged.
Fact: There were over 60 court cases that Trump and his allies lost for lack of evidence. And he hasn’t bothered to produced any in three years.

On Abortion:
Trump: The radical people on [abortion] are really the Democrat that say after five months, six months, seven months, eight months, nine months, and even after birth, you are allowed to terminate the baby.
Fact: No Democrats have ever advocated for abortion after birth. And late term abortions are extremely rare and only performed under dire circumstances.

On Ukraine:
Trump: They don’t report about the war [in Ukraine] anymore. You don’t find much reporting. That means that Ukraine’s losing. Okay?
Fact: HUH? Trump must only be watching Newsmax and reruns of The Apprentice.

One especially disturbing part of the interview was when Trump went on an extended rant about election fraud, alleging falsely that tens of thousands of ballots were stuffed into ballot boxes. Welker repeatedly told him that that wasn’t true and that those assertions – including the bogus “2,000 Mules” crocumentary – were all thoroughly debunked. But Trump was determined to persist with his lies even after Welker tried to move on to another subject ten times.

Another feature of the interview was Trump’s uncharacteristic reticence when discussing the January 6th insurrection that he incited. He made a few preposterous assertions such as his attempt to blame it all on former Speaker Pelosi. He told Welker that “They (the January 6th Committee) destroyed all the evidence about Nancy Pelosi.” That, of course, is a provable lie. But on several occasions he simply refused to answer direct questions…

Welker: Tell me how you watched this all unfold. Were you in the dining room watching TV?
Trump: I’m not going to tell you. I’ll tell people later at an appropriate time.

Welker: I want to know who you called on that day.
Trump: I don’t have — why would I tell you that?

Welker: Did you call military or law enforcement at the moment the Capitol was under attack?
Trump: I’m not going to tell you anything.

However, later in the interview, Trump may have said too much. Welker asked him about his personal responsibility and decision making with regard to his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. And while he frequently tries to shift any wrongdoing to others, on this occasion he seemed to confess, placing the blame on himself, where it actually belongs. Welker inquired as to who Trump took advice from on the matter. He replied…

Trump: You know who I listen to? Myself. I saw what happened. I watched that election, and I thought the election was over at 10 o’clock in the evening. […] I was listening to different people. And when I added it all up, the election was rigged. [NOTE: at 10:00pm ET polls weren’t even closed in the western U.S. Also, mail-in and military ballots in many states are not counted until after the in-person votes]
Welker: Were you calling the shots, ultimately?
Trump: As to whether or not I believed it was rigged? Oh, sure. It was my decision.

To top things off, Trump made a pitch for his reelection next year saying saying that “In six months to a year, many of the problems, almost all of the problems that you and I have just spoken about, will be solved.” Which makes you wonder, if it’s so easy, why he didn’t solve all of these problems in the four years he already had? And why would any sane person believe that he can solve them now?

Wannabe Messiah Trump Claims to Be Standing Up to the ‘Demonic Forces’ Destroying Our Country

That’s how Trump has been presenting himself and his mission ever since he descended from the heavens on a golden escalator. He views the country as being in a downward spiral that only he can prevent. America is, in his diseased mind, a hell-hole wherein its suffering citizens are too scared to venture from their besieged abodes into a world of terror and pain.

Coming to the rescue is Dear Leader Trump, who has been anointed by god to confront the evil that has enveloped the nation. And it’s a role that he takes on with pride in order to free his people from perdition and servitude. He told his cult followers at the “Pray Vote Stand” summit sponsored by the ultra-rightist Family Research Council that…

“I wanted to, and had to, stand up to the communists, the Marxists, and the atheists, and the evil and demonic forces that want to destroy our country. They’re destroying our country. I took their fire and I did it gladly. I’m protecting the people in this room, I’m protecting the people of this nation. And I have to tell you it’s not easy. But it’s something that’s such an honor to be doing.”

If anyone is a “demonic force” that is trying to “destroy our country” maybe it’s the guy who was impeached twice and is currently awaiting trial on four criminal indictments with 91 felony counts, including conspiring to overthrow the government and undermine democracy. And it’s hard to argue that you are “gladly” taking fire, when all you ever do is whine and lie and unleash hostile assaults on dedicated public servants in law enforcement, the Justice Department, the judiciary, the media, and any politician that doesn’t kiss your…let’s say ring.

As an example of Trump’s commitment to battling evil, consider his outburst on Friday at the same summit wherein he attacked special counsel Jack Smith saying that…

“He is a deranged individual and he wants to take away my First Amendment rights. They went to court to get an order that I can’t speak.”

What Trump is referring to is the special counsel’s request that the court instruct Trump to refrain from threatening and intimidating persons connected to his indictments. The motion asserted that…

“Like his previous public disinformation campaign regarding the 2020 presidential election, the defendant’s recent extrajudicial statements are intended to undermine public confidence in an institution [and] intimidate individuals — the Court, the jury pool, witnesses, and prosecutors. […] The defendant knows that when he publicly attacks individuals and institutions, he inspires others to perpetrate threats and harassment against his targets.”

It’s notable that Trump’s attack on Smith came after the special counsel’s motion. So in effect, Trump has bolstered the argument that his comments should be constrained. Also, contrary to his pathetic yelping and delusions of victimhood, Trump’s First Amendment rights are not being infringed. The Constitution doesn’t protect threats and intimidation, especially against court officers, witnesses, and potential jurors.

However, when you regard yourself as a holy warrior and disciple of god, anything you say and do is within the realm of divinity. And that is how Trump sees himself and his messianic mission. Or at least that’s how he wants his tiny klan of glassy-eyed disciples to see him. And sadly, too many of them do

Fox News and GOP Impeachment Chair Seek ‘Damning Evidence’ Against Biden, But Can’t Find Any

The Republican Party has given up entirely on even pretending to be interested in governing. Their sole purpose now is to smear President Biden and other Democrats with baseless allegations, insinuations, and wholly fictional conjecture. That includes most of the critical appropriations bills necessary to prevent a government shutdown. They have, however, held dozens of pointless and futile hearings with the intention of staining the reputation of the President. They have even admitted their purpose early on…

On Friday Fox News Senior Trump-Fluffer, Maria Bartiromo, advanced the pitiful platform of the GOP during an interview with Jason Smith, the Republican chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. That is one of the three committees that Speaker Kevin McCarthy just assigned to the task of conducting a bogus Biden impeachment inquiry. He joins Jim Jordan’s Judiciary Committee and James Comer’s and Oversight Committee in that purely partisan pursuit.

McCarthy had to break his promise – made just two weeks ago – to only empanel an impeachment inquiry after a vote by the full House. But he knows he doesn’t have the votes, even from his own caucus, to to get that passed. So he proceeded unilaterally.

Before the inquiries have even begun, Republicans have deployed to their positions on right-wing media to poison the public record with propaganda. And to that end, Smith appeared on Fox News with Bartiromo to engage in a revealing, and ultimately humiliating, exchange that began with this question…

Bartiromo: What I want to know is what you believe is the most damning evidence that you all have to suggest bribery – that the President was involved in bribery and money laundering. You’ve told us about the $20 million. Is it more than that? [GOP Rep] Nancy Mace told us that it could be $50 million. What were they getting paid for, and how come they set up twenty shell companies while he was Vice-President? What are these shell companies about?

Notice that Bartiromo planted her propaganda in the question with references to millions of dollars in alleged bribery and money laundering funds. She failed to mention that none of that was ever linked to President Biden, and wasn’t even illegal on the part of Hunter Biden. But Bartiromo nevertheless implies, without proof, that the money was for some nefarious purpose. And if you think that’s bad, the reply she got from Smith was even worse…

Smith: Those are all great questions that we need answers to. Unfortunately, since we released the testimony of the IRS whistleblowers, myself, Jim Jordan, Jamie Comer, have sent sixteen different investigative letters to the Biden administration asking questions and demanding answers. And the have stonewalled us this entire time. That is why we’re going to an impeachment inquiry. It’s because we need these questions answered. But guess what? Joe Biden and his administration is stopping us at every level.”

So the answer to “What is your damning evidence?” is “Those are all great questions that we need answers to.” Smith is confirming that he doesn’t have any evidence, damning or otherwise. Which means that here is no justifiable reason to hold any impeachment inquiry at all. Unless it is just to fish for potential morsels of mud that they can magnify into scandalous misconduct. That is not the mission of a congressional inquiry, which generally requires probable cause to initiate.

For the record, contrary to Smith’s complaint, the Biden administration has provided Congress with thousands of pages of documents per their requests. That includes memos, emails, and bank statements. Smith’s real problem is that there isn’t any hint of wrongdoing in any of that production. And the formation of an impeachment inquiry, without a vote by the full House, won’t have any additional authority to persecute Biden. So the best that they can hope for is to spread more rumors and lies.

When the chairman of the committee that is tasked with conducting an investigation concedes that he has nothing to warrant an investigation, you might think that the whole matter would be dropped. But not with this Republican caucus. They see this as an opportunity to cripple the President’s prospects for reelection next year. And they aren’t going to let up, no matter how much they embarrass themselves with failure.

A Befuddled Trump Both Admits and Denies that He Was ‘Waving Around’ a Classified Document

The debate over the fitness of elderly politicians has been raging in recent weeks. Some of the arguments have accurately pointed out Donald Trump’s glaring cognitive deficiencies. But for the most part it has been a feast of Republican Trump supporters falsely disparaging President Biden, despite his unprecedented record of achievements.

Donald Trump, Insane, Straight Jacket

The mental decline of Trump has been obvious to anyone observing him impartially. He disgorges rambling rants about subjects that often have nothing to do with whatever the topic of the conversation was. He repeats himself relentlessly (a symptom of logorrhea, a communication disorder that causes excessive wordiness and repetitiveness, which can cause incoherency). And he unleashes streams of anger, paranoia, and malignant narcissism, with every utterance or online comment. He is especially triggered by even the slightest criticism.

On Thursday Trump was interviewed by former Fox News host, Megyn Kelly. This was a particularly surprising event considering how viciously he has attacked her in the past, and that he even refused to participate in a Republican primary debate because she was a moderator. Apparently they are both desperately seeking attention, and are willing to debase themselves to get it.

The interview briefly touched on an interesting matter that involved one of Trump’s pending indictments. Earlier this year it was revealed that among the classified documents that Trump had stolen, was one that he took to his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf resort, and reportedly shared with others who had no security clearances. Which is a serious breach of national security and federal law. What follows is part of the exchange between Trump and Kelly that could keep both psychologists and prosecutors very busy in the coming weeks and months….

Kelly: Why would you be holding up a newspaper saying, “This is still secret. I could declassify it if I was president.”
Trump: I would have to look at it.
Kelly: But you told Bret Baier (of Fox News) that that was a newspaper or a magazine article.
Trump: I could have declassified it. I also told Bret Baier – as I remember, I don’t know, it was a long time interview – But I also told Bret Baier that it wasn’t a classified document.
Kelly: What were you waving around in that meeting? Because it certainly sounds like it was an attack plan.
Trump: I’m not going to talk to you about that because that’s already been, I think, very substantiated, and there’s no problem with it.
Kelly: Well, it hasn’t been substantiated. Jack Smith says it was an attack plan.
Trump: Let me tell you. Here we go again. I’m covered by the Presidential Records Act. I’m allowed to do what I want to do. I’m allowed to have documents.

Let’s unravel that barrage of bullcrap, shall we?. When first asked, Trump claimed that the document he was wagging was one that he could declassify. Which would mean that it wasn’t already declassified. But since he was not president at that time, he absolutely could not declassify it and, therefore, it was classified when he was showing it to others.

Then Trump tried to claim that he couldn’t remember because it was a “long time interview,” whatever that means. Either he was trying to say that it happened a long time ago (it’s been a whole two and half months ago), or that the duration of the discussion was long (it was less than an hour). Either way, his excuse makes no sense.

Then Trump says that the document wasn’t actually classified at all. Which would make his claim that he could declassify it rather odd.

Then, when Kelly confronted Trump with the allegation that the document was an attack plan – which would surely have been classified – Trump bugged out and refused to answer her questions. Which suggests that either he knew that the document was classified, or that he was afraid he was about to incriminate himself. Or perhaps, both.

Finally, Trump resorted to his tedious fallback excuse that he was “covered by the Presidential Records Act (PRA)” and “allowed to do what I want to do.” Which is not at all what the PRA says. In fact, it states explicitly that “Presidential records automatically transfer into the legal custody of the [National] Archivist as soon as the President leaves office.” The law that grants him the right “to do what I want to do,” exists only in his diseased mind.

In short, Trump goes back and forth from asserting that the document was classified to insisting that it wasn’t. All the while inventing powers that he imagined he had, and eventually providing a badly twisted analysis of a law that he clearly doesn’t understand. And yet he wants people to believe that he is a “stable genius,” and that Biden is an incompetent and senile criminal mastermind. Which would actually be quite an accomplishment.

Squeaker McCarthy Breaks His Promise to Vote on the Sham Impeachment Inquiry of President Biden

Eight months into the Republican’s razor thin majority in the House of Representatives, GOP Speaker Kevin McCarthy has fulfilled his mission to upend democracy by calling for an entirely unwarranted impeachment inquiry of President Biden.

Never mind that in the prior eight months, the Republicans have failed utterly to produce a shred of evidence of any wrongdoing by Biden. It’s not for lack of trying. The GOP has held dozens of hearings in the Oversight Committee, the Judiciary Committee, and in McCarthy’s spanking new “Weaponization of Government” Committee, whose title perfectly describes what Republicans are trying to do.

In McCarthy’s address to the nation announcing the impeachment inquiry (video below), he outlined what he called “allegations of abuse of power, obstruction, and corruption [that] warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives.” However, each of the allegations he cited were made by ultra-partisan Republicans with no factual basis to back them up. In some cases they were flagrant lies and deliberate distortions of testimony given under oath by witnesses who actually affirmed that Biden had not done anything remotely illegal or even unethical. McCarthy then revealed that his inquiries…

“…would be led by Chairman James Comer of the Committee on Oversight, in coordination with Chairman Jim Jordan for Judiciary Committee, and Chairman Jason Smith on Ways and Means.”

Comer and Jordan are the very same GOP Clown Caucus leaders whose months of hysterical harassment has produced nothing but humiliation for the anti-democratic Republicans trying to impugn Biden. In the meantime, the GOP has neglected their duties to the American people. They haven’t passed a single bill of any importance, including the critical appropriations bills necessary to keep the government running. That will hamstring everything from Social Security to the military.

For the record, McCarthy’s rush to conduct a staged inquiry is a breach of his own promise to hold a vote on whether or not proceed with one. But he is being pressured by the fringiest faction of his party, including Trump, who has resorted to overt insults and threats. Less than two weeks ago McCarthy said that…

“To open an impeachment inquiry is a serious matter, and House Republicans would not take it lightly or use it for political purposes. The American people deserve to be heard on this matter through their elected representatives. That’s why, if we move forward with an impeachment inquiry, it would occur through a vote on the floor of the People’s House and not through a declaration by one person.”

And now McCarthy has ordered an inquiry “through a declaration by one person.” What makes this even worse is that McCarthy was appalled when former Speaker Nancy Pelosi floated the idea of an impeachment inquiry for Donald Trump. In response McCarthy complained that such an inquiry must not be made “by a unilateral decree of the Speaker.” He chastised Pelosi for “refus[ing] to seek approval of the whole House in this critical decision — as is longstanding practice of this body.”

Pelosi, however, did eventually bring the matter to a vote and it was agreed to by a majority of House members. McCarthy is unwilling to take that step that he was so adamantly in favor of because he knows that he doesn’t have the votes in his own caucus to get it passed. He is only making this unilateral move to conduct an inquiry because he is scared of his own party members – and as it turns out, even Trump – who are threatening his speakership post.

Consequently, we are stuck with his bogus inquiry whose only purpose is to stain Biden and the Democrats prior to the election next year. They’ll be disappointed when they learn that their impeachment attempt will fail and that such measures almost always hurt the party that engages in them.

Trump Suffers Mental Collapse Over Poll that Asks About His Obviously Collapsing Mental Health

With each new public appearance or posting on his sinking social media scam, Truth Social, Trump displays the depth of his dementia and desperation. His ranting grows more incoherent. His insults become more vicious and unhinged. His attempts to defend himself fall flat, and far outside the bounds of reality.

This weekend Trump went online to rage pathetically about a poll by the ultra-conservative Wall Street Journal that asked voters about the mental and physical health of both Trump and President Biden. The poll’s results actually placed Trump in a more favorable light. But just posing the question was too much for Trump to bear. Consequently he lashed out in a pair of comments that only made him look more deranged and decidedly weaker. In the first outburst he whined that…

“In a phony and probably rigged Wall Street Journal poll, coming out of nowhere to softened the mental incompetence blow that is so obvious with Crooked Joe Biden, they ask about my age and mentality. Where did that come from? A few years ago I was the only one to agree to a mental acuity test, & ACED IT. Now that the Globalists at Fox & the WSJ have failed to push their 3rd tier candidate to success, they do this. Well, I hereby challenge Rupert Murdoch & Sons, Biden, WSJ heads, to acuity tests!”

“Where did that come from?” Trump being confused about why the Journal would ask voters about the fitness of two septuagenarians to serve as president is in itself evidence of his “softened” mental condition. And it is similarly proof of infirmity that he reminds people of the test he took wherein he was able to identify an elephant and remember a few words. He gave as an example just some words of things that were immediately around him (person, woman, man, camera, tv). Contrary to his deliberate misrepresentation, it wasn’t an IQ test. It was a simple test given to people who were being evaluated for early signs of cognitive deficiencies.

Trump then goes on to issue a bold challenge to take on Biden and the family of Rupert Murdoch in some sort of competitive Cognition Bowl (Sunday on ESPN?). Setting aside the fact that he would certainly lose, the whole notion is asinine. But he doubled down in his next posting…

“Page 2: I will name the place and the test, and it will be a tough one. Nobody will come even close to me! We can also throw some physical activity into it. I just won the Senior Club Championship at a big golf club, with many very good players. To do so you need strength, accuracy, touch and, above all, mental toughness. Ask Bret Baier (Fox), a very good golfer. The Wall Street Journal & Fox are damaged goods after their failed DeSanctimonious push & stupid $780,000,000 ‘settlement.’ MORONS!!!”

So Trump insists on determining the time and place for his Psycho Sweepstakes. Lay odds that he will suggest one of his own hotel/golf resorts, and that he will charge admission to attend. It’s also cute that Trump thinks he would best Biden, an avid cyclist who regularly works out in the White House gym. Never mind that Trump is averse to any form of exercise, can barely walk down short ramp, and has trouble holding a cup of water. As for his golfing prowess, Trump is a notorious cheater who only seems to “win” his own contests.

It’s notable that Trump didn’t bother to post a link to the Wall Street Journal poll that triggered his tantrum. As usual, he just expects his cult followers to believe whatever he says without question. For the record, according to Newsweek…

“The poll found that 73 percent of Americans thought Biden was ‘too old’ to run for reelection next year, while 47 percent said the same about Trump, who is only three years younger than the president. Some 60 percent of respondents said that Biden was not ‘mentally up for the job of president,’ while 49 percent said the same about Trump.”

While the crosstabs for the poll were not published, the gap between Trump’s and Biden’s results is likely due to the lockstep views of brain-dead Republicans. Rational, free-thinking Democrats and Independents probably split on whether Biden’s age was a factor in their responses. But hive-minded Republicans have demonstrated their devoutly uniform anti-Biden biases and responded accordingly in obedient unison. With regard to Trump, Democrats and Independents probably also split, but cult-driven Republicans all vouched for his saintly perfection.

Additionally, the poll found that majorities regard Trump as dishonest (57%) and corrupt (58%). Biden numbers (50% and 48% respectively) aren’t anything to brag about (and are subject to the gap explanation above), but are far better than Trump’s. Which makes the GOP’s adoration of him all the more distasteful. They remain fervently faithful to their Dear Leader even though they concede that he cheats and lies. That’s not only a sick devotion to a messianic poser, it’s a dangerous signal for the future of American democracy.
