Trevor Noah is Leaving the Daily Show – And Creating a Huge Opening for Media Satire

Late night TV comedy is getting significantly shaken up with the news that Trevor Noah is quitting as host of “The Daily Dhow” after seven years. He made the announcement on Thursday night in an emotional statement (video below) that recalled his unexpected selection to take over from Jon Stewart, and his early days in the anchor chair.

Trevor Noah

There was no timetable given for his departure, and no indication of who might succeed him. Noah thanked his staff and crew and audience saying that…

“I’ve loved hosting this show. It’s been one of my greatest challenges. It’s been one of my greatest joys. I’ve loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh even when the stories are particularly shitty on the worst days.”

Noah was never in an easy position as the guy who had to follow in Jon Stewart’s footsteps. He had some hits and some misses during his tenure. But he eventually put his own stamp on the show and connected with a new audience. His focus leaned more heavily on racial politics and international affairs. He said early on that he didn’t want to continue doing jokes about Fox News and other media. That was unfortunate in my view.

Jon Stewart’s Daily Show was not, as many people assumed, political satire. It was media satire. The whole premise was one of a fake news show with a fake anchor and fake correspondents, who mocked the failures and absurdities of the corporate television press. Naturally, Fox News was a frequent target given its abundance of material to ridicule. It is a feast of bias and lies and propaganda. But much of the mockery of that has receded during the Noah years. Which is too bad because there isn’t any other program on TV that is dedicated to media satire.

When Comedy Central selects its next Daily Show host, here’s hoping that they return to those roots and take on the media again. There is more reason to do so now than ever. Fox News has veered much farther into the fringy far right with their embrace of the loopy cult of Donald Trump and his QAnon-flecked following. Add to that Newsmax, the One America News Network, and an emerging crop of wingnut streaming and podcasting, and you have a severely unbalanced press pool that is screaming out for satirical spankings. Even CNN with new owners is lurching to the right.

So who are the most promising prospects to take over the Daily Show? There is actually a pretty deep a bench. It includes inspired comics like Jordan Klepper, Amber Ruffin, Samantha Bee, Roy Wood Jr., Desi Lydic, and Hasan Minhaj. However, it isn’t certain that Comedy Central will even continue the program. That would be a shame. In the meantime, we still have Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel and, of course, Jon Stewart, to lighten the load.

UPDATE: Trump weighed in on Noah’s announcement with a typically asinine comment saying that “Trevor Noah was a waste of time, no talent, no anything. Jon Stewart was only slightly better, but highly overrated.” He went on to advise Comedy Central not to do political comedy. But if they do, it should be all conservative. Sure, because Dennis Miller is cracking them up in whatever comedy graveyard he’s working in.

Crybaby Trump Dumps on His Favorite New York Times Reporter for Telling the Truth About Him

The Great Meltdown of Donald Trump continues to sweep over the nation as his legal peril escalates and his grasp of reality declines. Trump’s psychotic breakdowns are the most predictable aspects of his noxious character, or lack thereof. And they always build to a climax when he is legitimately criticized by politicians or pundits who know him all too well.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump, Maggie Haberman

On Friday morning Trump lashed out at New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman whose new book, “Confidence Man: The Making of Donald Trump and the Breaking of America,” recounts the depravities of Trump’s presidency and personality.

RELATED: Big Baby Trump Whines to Fox News that Reporter ‘Maggot’ Haberman Revealed His Poor Potty Training

Haberman has been both one of Trump’s favorites and one of his foes. On his floundering Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, Trump once again turned against Haberman writing that…

“Here we go again! Another Fake book is out, this one, supposedly very boring and stale, by self appointed head case, Failing (unfunded liability!) New York Times writer, Maggie Hagerman. In it she tells many made up stories, with zero fact checking or confirmation by anyone who would know, like me. In one case she lies about me wanting to fire my daughter, Ivanka, and Jared. WRONG, pure fiction. Never even crossed my mind. Just have to fight trouble making creeps like Maggie, and all the rest!”

Let’s set aside the bizarre and infantile ranting that Haberman appointed herself a “head case,” and Trump’s cranky review of her book as “boring and stale.” What Trump is really upset about is that Haberman has so accurately revealed some of the humiliating moments of his occupation of the White House that he would prefer remain private. She interviewed more than 250 People, including Trump – three times. And specifically with regard to the Ivanka and Jared revelations, CNN reports that…

“Trump raised the prospect of firing Ivanka Trump and Kushner, who were both senior White House aides, during meetings with then-chief of staff John Kelly and then-White House counsel Don McGahn, Haberman writes. At one point, he was about to tweet that his daughter and son-in-law were leaving the White House – but he was stopped by [Chief of Staff John] Kelly, who told Trump he had to speak with them directly first.”

Additionally, Haberman’s book reveals that Trump “resisted denouncing White supremacists,” “made light of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s declining health, “[Kelly] described Trump as a “fascist,” and that his staff “found documents flushed down the toilet.”

The book also exposes just how ignorant Trump was and is of government, and his authoritarian aspirations. When confronted with news of his first impeachment, Trump babbled, “I’ll just sue Congress. They can’t do this to me.” He also believed that Republicans in the Senate “could block legislation by skipping votes,” and that “The vice president’s vote doesn’t count. It doesn’t count. You might want to check this,” And after losing the 2020 election “Trump vowed to aides that he simply wouldn’t leave the White House.”

RELATED: It’s Time for the Media to Cover Donald Trump as the Messiah of the QAnon Cult

So naturally Trump is berating Haberman. But the only real complaint should be that she withheld this information from the public so that she can profit from it in her book.

Still, the last thing Trump wants is for factual accounts of his childish, hostile, and ignorant behavior to be documented and published. And, as usual, he provides no basis whatsoever for his criticisms. It’s just another tantrum by a paranoid narcissist who can’t handle the truth.

UPDATE: Later the same day Trump felt it was necessary to make sure that everyone knows just how emotionally stunted and immature he is, so he posted another comment calling his NY Times nemesis “Maggot” Haberman. He’s still stuck significantly below the eight year old level.

Idiots at Fox News Downplay Hurricane Damage ‘In Our Country’ vs Puerto Rico

As Hurricane Ian rumbles over Florida and much of the south eastern seaboard, leaving human and material destruction in its wake, the coverage of this unnatural product of climate change by Fox News proves to be just another opportunity to propagate disinformation and amplify ignorance.

Click here to Tweet this article

Hurricane Shooter

On Thursday morning, host Martha MacCallum responded to comments by her colleague Bill Hemmer regarding the the state of the power grid in Florida following the hurricane’s landfall. Hemmer noted that 200,000 people were reported to have lost power, and that that number was likely go up in the next few hours. MacCallum agreed and added that…

“You know you feel terrible for people in Puerto Rico who were just hit, in Cuba who were just hit. Thank God we have better infrastructure in our country. We’ve put a lot of investment into making sure that we’re ready for these things. But it’s an act of nature and you never know exactly what to expect.”

Who wants to tell MacCallum that Puerto Rico is “in our country”? This is a “mistake” that is often made on Fox News, where they seem loathe to concede that the mostly Latino citizens of Puerto Rico are, in fact, Americans.

However, as bad as that was, it wasn’t the only ignorant blunder made by both Hemmer and MacCallum. Their praise for authentic, unadulterated, American infrastructure neglected to notice that there are actually more than two million Floridians without power. So the failures of the energy facilities on the mainland were no less severe than those on the tiny and distant island. Even though they have the advantage of being connected to the broader national power grid.

This might be a good time for a reminder that the vast majority of Republicans in Congress voted against the passage of President Biden’s Infrastructure Bill.

RELATED: Crybaby Trump Whines Impotently About Passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill

What’s more, Donald Trump has been a prolific promoter of purposeful lies with regard to past natural disasters. Following his infamous paper towel throwing affair in Puerto Rico, Trump sought to make the tragedies of Hurricane Maria disappear. He tweeted that…

“3000 people did not die in the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico. When I left the Island, AFTER the storm had hit, they had anywhere from 6 to 18 deaths. As time went by it did not go up by much. Then, a long time later, they started to report really large numbers, like 3000. This was done by the Democrats in order to make me look as bad as possible.”

Actually, Democrats had nothing to do with the casualty estimates. And Trump doesn’t need anyone’s help to make him look bad. The 3,000 fatalities were verified by both non-partisan government agencies and independent researchers at George Washington University. They were also affirmed by the Republican governor of Puerto Rico.

The fact that Fox News is intent on callously discounting the hardship and grief suffered by victims of Hurricane Ian shouldn’t surprise anyone. They are the same network that stood behind Trump when he asked whether we could nuke a hurricane. And then there was the time that he described North Carolina’s Hurricane Florence in 2018 as “a tough hurricane. One of the wettest we’ve ever seen from the standpoint of water.” Both Florence and Ian were classified as Category 4. But maybe Trump declassified Florence with his mind, saving untold lives.

R U KIDDING? Trump Offers to ‘Head Up Group’ to Negotiate an End to Russia’s War on Ukraine

One of Donald Trump’s favorite reality defying rhetorical maneuvers is to insist that some recent circumstance would never have happened if he were still president. He’s used it to claim that there would have been no inflation, that the U.S. would have left Afghanistan peacefully, that COVID would have disappeared, and essentially that his perpetual occupation of the White House would mean eternal paradise on earth. He’d probably say that there would have been no hurricane if he were still king.

Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin

Perhaps more often than any other of these preposterous claims was Trump’s insistence that Russia would not have invaded Ukraine if he were president. Trump employs this sort of baseless speculation because it is impossible to disprove an imaginary past. However, it is easy to conclude from past behavior that if Trump were in office when Russia chose to attack Ukraine that he would have been on Russia’s side. And he surely would not have provided assistance to Ukraine, whose president he extorted in an attempt to get him to dig up dirt on then-candidate Joe Biden. Which is why he got impeached the first time.

RELATED: Trump Reveals He Talked to Putin About Invading Ukraine, But Stiffed Them on Military Aid Anyway

On Wednesday morning Trump posted a comment on his floundering social media scam, Truth Social, that once again asserted his fabrications as fact. And he went further to propose himself as the universal solver of any and every problem that humans face…

“U.S. ‘Leadership’ should remain ‘cool, calm, and dry’ on the SABOTAGE of the Nord Stream Pipelines. This is a big event that should not entail a big solution, at least not yet. The Russia/Ukraine catastrophe should NEVER have happened, and would definitely not have happened if I were President. Do not make matters worse with the pipeline blowup. Be strategic, be smart (brilliant!), get a negotiated deal done NOW. Both sides need and want it. The entire World is at stake. I will head up group???”

First of all, Trump’s perception of himself as “cool, calm, and dry” is downright hysterical. He is without peer as America’s most mentally unbalanced politician ever. Secondly, Trump’s concern about the Nord Stream pipeline explosion is difficult to take seriously. He has already blamed it on the Biden administration without any proof whatsoever. That, of course, is typical of his “Blame America First” tendencies. The last thing he would ever do is criticize his hero and mentor, Vladimir Putin.

However, the peak of Trump’s lunacy is revealed in his deranged proposal that he should “head the group” dispatched to negotiate an end to the Russian aggression against Ukraine. That would be like sending Himmler to represent the Allies in peace talks with Hitler. We know whose side Trump is on. He has already called for appeasement of Russia, including his solution to let Putin annex parts of Eastern Ukraine.

RELATED: Trump’s ‘Solution’ to the War in Ukraine is to Appease Russia and Quash Any Criticism of Putin

Trump’s latest comment is another suggestion that Ukraine “get a negotiated deal done NOW.” But why should Ukraine agree to any Russian demand for territory that doesn’t belong to them? Ukraine is winning this war and can prevail with the support of Western allies.

Trump, on the other hand, is is waving the white flag of surrender. And that’s the sort of cowardly, traitorous “leadership” that he has provided in the past and would provide in the future if he were ever to regain power in the U.S. He’s telling us so explicitly. We must not allow it to happen.

UH-OH: Trump’s New $3 Million Lawyer Has Been Sidelined Less than a Month After He Was Hired

The clown car of lawyers that have represented Donald Trump has been a source of much ridicule for years. The roster includes Hall of Shamers like Rudy Giuliani, Sydney Powell, Jenna Ellis, Alina Habba, and former OAN host Christina Bobb. Some have already had their law licenses suspended. Others are defendants in billion dollar defamation lawsuits. It’s a rogue’s gallery of legal losers.

Donald Trump Circling the Drain

On Tuesday it was revealed that the newest member of Trump’s legal F-Team, Chris Kise, has already been sidelined from his role representing Trump in the Mar-a-Lago documents case. This is the case wherein Trump was found to have been illegally hoarding highly sensitive national security materials at his Palm Beach hotel/home. His attorneys thus far have offered laughably lame excuses for his having done so. And those excuses just seemed to get more bizarre with each new one offered. They ranged from claiming the documents belonged to him, to insisting that everything had been returned, to allegations that the FBI planted them, to his having declassified them with his mind, and more.

RELATED: WTF? Now Trump Says the FBI Was Looking for Hillary Clinton’s Emails at Mar-a-Lago

Kise was just hired by Trump a few weeks ago. It was reported that he was paid $3 million dollars in advance, because Trump is so well known for stiffing his attorneys. But now Kise is no longer working on the case. According to CNN

“The newest addition to former President Donald Trump’s legal team, Chris Kise, has been sidelined from the Mar-a-Lago documents investigation less than a month after he was brought on to represent Trump in the matter, two sources familiar with the move tell CNN.” […]

“The move is notable given Kise, the former solicitor general for Florida, was brought on to the team after a weeks-long search and struggle to find someone willing to take on the case who was also experienced in Florida law. The legal strategy for fighting the Justice Department following the August seizure of over 100 documents marked as classified was also in disarray.”

Trump’s spokesman, Taylor Budowich, told CNN that “Kise’s role as an important member of President Trump’s legal team remains unchanged.” However, he has not been observed at any of the other hearings for the pending Trump investigations, such as the January 6th insurrection or the lawsuit filed by the New York State Attorney General.

RELATED: Trump’s Spokes-Shill Admits that He’s Guilty of the Fraud Charges By New York AG Letitia James

Perhaps Kise made the fatal mistake of giving Trump some rational legal advice. That would surely have resulted in Trump souring on him and shoving him aside. Or maybe Kise outlined the legal peril that Trump is facing and he got depressed. Although Sean Hannity did the same thing a few days ago so, unless he’s blocking it out, Trump must know the trouble he’s in.

At least Kise got well paid for his month of work. And now he can watch from the bleachers as Trump guides his loony legal league through the quagmire that he’s created for himself. Look for Trump to seek new representation from the only “lawyers” who would still work for him – Fox News hosts Jeanine Pirro or Mark Levin. Barring that, he’d better call Saul (who Trump probably thinks is real).

Tucker Carlson Dumps All Over the GOP ‘Commitment to America’ – ‘There’s Nothing Real In It’

Just like Leap Year, Tucker Carlson of Fox News says something that is marginally coherent once every four years or so. Although when he does it is usually spiked with some ulterior political motive or the result of an accidental slip into the realm of reality. More often than not Carlson is steadfastly fixated on his white supremacist, pro-authoritarian points of view.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Tucker Carlson

On Monday Carlson diverged from his customary knee-jerk, Trump-fluffing screed to shower some pretty harsh criticism on the Republican Party he ordinarily props up. The tongue lashing delivered by Tuckums concerned the recently released “Commitment to America” – the GOP House minority leader Kevin McCarthy’s hastily cobbled together policy statement that he intended to boost the Republican’s waning prospects for the midterm election. Releasing this pitifully shallow rehash of the 1994 Newt Gingrich “Contract with America” just six weeks before the election was a clear act of desperation on McCarthy’s part.

RELATED: REALLY? Tucker Carlson Accuses Kevin McCarthy of Being ‘a Puppet of the Democratic Party’

McCarthy’s “commitment” included such vague banalities as creating “an economy that’s strong,” “a nation that’s safe,” “a future that’s built on freedom” and “a government that’s accountable.” Those goals, however, are diametrically opposed to what Republicans have done in practice. Particularly their record on producing weak economies and foregoing accountability for their lawless leaders (e.g. Donald Trump). Carlson appears to agree. He raged at Republicans saying that…

“House Republicans just spelled out what they’re running on. It’s a document called the ‘Commitment to America.’ It’s fine. Probably not much in it you disagree with. Have you heard of it? No. You probably haven’t. You probably haven’t read it. Nobody really cares. Why? Because there’s nothing real in it.

“There’s not a single word in that document about the attacks on the American family that you see every day. That’s at the center of most people’s concerns. How are my kids? Will they have a life that resembles mine? That was called the American Dream. Does it still exist? Will they be able to afford to live the way they grew up? Will they have the opportunities that we had? No! People are upset about that. Why wouldn’t they be? But nobody says it.”

So Carlson is worried about whether the GOP plan will permit his children to enjoy the elitist life of leisure that he was born into. He can’t grasp that his questions make no sense to a low-income family that isn’t especially anxious for their kids to have a life that resembles theirs.

The crux of Carlson’s opposition to McCarthy’s folly is that it doesn’t restore the kind of America that Carlson hankers for. It’s an America that looks backwards to the one his parents lived in. Which is one where women and minorities were still second-class citizens who weren’t threatening the rightful superiority of his racial and social stratum. And he’s likewise worried that McCarthy’s plan doesn’t openly embrace the autocratic principles of his heroes, such as Vladimir Putin and Viktor Orbán.

SEE: Tucker Carlson of Fox News Rattles Off His Ridiculous Reasons for Why You Shouldn’t Hate Putin and Fox News Fascinista, Tucker Carlson, Cozies Up to Hungary’s Authoritarian PM Orbán

Another reason that Carlson might be averse to the McCarthy Doctrine is that he has an agenda that is more focused on political vengeance. He would rather see the GOP go after President Biden and the Democrats than to bother with the mechanics of governing. Which would put him in alignment with GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz who has explicitly adopted the revenge platform. “If we don’t engage in impeachment inquiries,” Gaetz rants, “our voters will feel betrayed “ So Gaetz concludes that “it should be investigations first, policy … as a far, far diminished priority.”

That also happens to be the overtly revenge-centered agenda of Donald Trump. At least when he isn’t whining about having lost the 2020 presidential election. The Trump Cult is laser focused on the issues that matter most to the cult devotees: Hunter Biden, COVID mandates, immigrants, Hillary Clinton’s emails, and Joe Biden’s opposition to right-wing fascists. And if that’s their closing argument for the 2022 midterms, election day can’t come soon enough for Democrats.

It’s Time for the Media to Cover Donald Trump as the Messiah of the QAnon Cult

The MAGA movement that Donald Trump started has always had the the most disturbing and dangerous attributes of a religious cult. It’s leader demands unflinching devotion. It’s followers declare unwavering loyalty. And most importantly, the flock is taught that only the leader will tell them the truth, and that everyone else is lying to them.

Click here to Tweet this article

Donald Trump Messiah

That’s the only explanation for how the MAGA Minions can buy into the preposterous scenarios spun by Trump in his messianic quest for power. Trump requires his disciples to believe that he won the 2020 Presidential election by a landslide – and that evil Democrats and traitorous Republicans stole his victory – despite never having been able to provide a shred of evidence. He insists that he’s innocent of a multitude of crimes – from bank and tax fraud, to extorting the president of Ukraine, to inciting the January 6th insurrection, to hoarding national security documents at Mar-a-Lago and lying to the FBI about it – despite abundant evidence of his guilt.

RELATED: LOL: Sean Hannity Thinks He’s Helping Trump By Scrolling a Long List of His Crimes on Fox News

In recent weeks the shape of Trump’s political activities have advanced beyond the mere appearance of cult behavior. He is now fully embracing the associated ultra-rightist confederacy of crackpots known as QAnon. These are freakazoids who believe that Democrats are Satanic pedophiles bent on destroying America and can only be vanquished by Trump and his anointed-by-God warriors. Sadly, that army is currently populated by much of the Republican Party.

At first Trump tip-toed into the QAnon swamp with subtle allusions to their doctrine and symbolism. But last week he made the connection unmistakably explicit. Amidst a flurry of fanatical postings on his floundering social media scam, Truth Social, Trump included some unambiguous invocations to QAnon. For instance, he posted a picture of Christ with the caption “Jesus is the Greatest. President @realDonaldTrump is the second greatest.”

That’s precisely what the QAnon-sense followers profess. And it elevates Trump from a politician to a deity. Another example was Trump’s posting of video that contained multiple references to QAnon through its iconography and slogans…

Given Trump’s deep dive into this mystical madness, it no longer makes sense for the media to cover Trump as a political figure. He is promoting himself as a religious leader and aligning himself with people who regard him as their savior. It is what the pseudo-scriptural phrase “make America great again” really means. Trump and his devotees (aka the Republican Party) define it as the greatness of divinity. And they intend to follow him to heaven, even if it means waging a civil war. Or more accurately from their perspective, the war of Armageddon.

GOP Senator on Fox News Backs Assault Against 72 Year Old Volunteer Abortion Clinic Escort

The Republican Party of Donald Trump has spent months (years, actually) normalizing acts of violence in pursuit of their extremist, authoritarian quest for power. From the very beginning of Trump’s political adventurism he explicitly advocated violence. He even urged his supporters to “knock the crap out of” protesters at his rallies and promised to pay their legal fees.

Fox News, Terrorism

On Sunday morning the Fox News Senior Trump-fluffer, Maria Bartiromo, invited Republican Senator Mike Lee of Utah to discuss the GOP’s plans should they win a majority in the 2022 midterm election. Bartiromo wanted to know whether they would conduct an inquisition of the Justice Department and the FBI on behalf of Trump following the search of his Mar-a-Lago bunker where he had illegally hoarded highly sensitive national security materials.

RELATED: Trump Returns to the Scene of the Crime at Mar-a-Lago – and Freaks Out About the FBI’s Shoes

Lee immediately steered the conversation to what he regarded as “overreach” on the part of law enforcement. This despite their having found hundreds of classified documents that Trump repeatedly lied about having. However, Lee’s examples of this alleged overreach wound up serving as support for the perpetrator of a vicious assault on a senior citizen…

Lee: In the last few days we’ve seen some pretty glaring examples of what appear to be instances of overreach […] You’ve got a Catholic father of seven who formed a group designed to encourage young men to be faithful to their commitments, who was arrested in front of his seven children.
Bartiromo: Crap!

Lee repeated that he regards this as an “instance of overreach” that Republicans will be looking into. Bartiromo added that another line of inquiry should include the Justice Department and the FBI’s alleged “deep hatred for Donald Trump and the way they treat the former president.” In the view of Lee and Bartiromo, treating a suspect of serious federal crimes, including espionage, like a suspect is a akin to deep hatred.

What Lee failed to mention was that the Catholic father who was arrested was charged with assaulting a 72 year old volunteer reproductive healthcare clinic who was escorting patients through a gauntlet of anti-choice activists. According to the local ABC news affiliate

“A Pennsylvania man has been charged for allegedly assaulting an elderly Planned Parenthood volunteer. […] According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Mark Houck is alleged to have twice assaulted a 72-year-old man because he was a volunteer reproductive health care clinic escort.

“The charges stem from two separate incidents […] In the first incident, the man was attempting to escort two patients exiting the clinic when Houck forcefully shoved him to the ground. In the second incident, Houck allegedly confronted the man and shoved him to the ground in front of the Planned Parenthood center, causing injuries that required medical attention.”

That is the sort of behavior that Sen. Lee is defending. And Bartiromo is fully on board with it. The assailant, according his page on a Catholic speakers website, “is the Co-Founder/President of The King’s Men,” a non-profit organization “seeking to unite and build up men as true leaders […] with the goal of eliminating pornography.” The page also says Houck is a “chastity educator!”

Soon Houck may be able to add convicted felon to his resume. And Fox News can continue its mission to promote violence against their political opponents, up to and including insurrection. It’s a strategy that has become even more pronounced as Trump sinks ever deeper into legal peril. It’s a path that they appear to hope leads to civil war.

Fox News ‘Doctor’ Attacks Stacy Abrams for Fetal Heartbeat Comment that He Later Admits is True

Fox News has never been a particularly good source for medical information. To the contrary, with respect to COVID-19 they have a long record of disseminating crackpot conspiracy theories and fake cures that resulted in the deaths of untold thousands of people. They were literally killing off their own viewers.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Covid

Throughout the pandemic, Fox News was instrumental in spreading disinformation. When they weren’t denying that there was any serious public health issue at all, they were promoting quack cures like hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin. And among the most frequent distributors of deadly misinformation was their “Medical A-Team” “doctor,” Marc Siegel, who insisted that COVID was no more dangerous than the common flu.

RELATED: SURPRISE! Those Who Trust Fox News, Newsmax, and OAN Believe the Most COVID Misinformation

On Friday Fox News brought in Siegel again to dispense his unique brand of bullpucky. The segment was about comments made by Democratic Georgia gubernatorial candidate, Stacy Abrams, on abortion and one argument in particular that anti-choice activists cling to. Abrams was addressing claims that a fetal heartbeat can heard in ultrasound exams. Host Dana Perino played a clip of Abrams saying that…

“There is no such thing as a heartbeat at six weeks. It is a manufactured sound designed to convince people that men have the right to take control of a woman’s body.”

That’s a factual statement that credible medical professionals will attest to. The ultrasound machine actually inserts sounds when it encounters certain fetal activity. It is a product of the machine itself, rather than amplification of any existing sound. But that isn’t how Siegel portrayed it in this interview.

Responding to Perino’s question, “Can you hear a heartbeat at six weeks in a pregnancy?” Siegel hedged at first, calling Abrams’ comments “outrageous,” followed by a short historical outline of how ultrasound was invented and it’s contribution to medicine. He seemed to be implying that Abrams was criticizing the existence of the machine, which is absurd. He eventually circled back to the question and his reply actually affirmed what Abrams had said (video below):

“I gotta tell you that you can see at six weeks that a fetus is forming. There’s no heart there, there’s no valves, but you are seeing a fluttering, a flickering of electrical activity. That’s the beginning of a heart. So you can debate all day when an actual heart occurs, but that is the beginning of flickering, of fluttering of life there where the heart is gonna be.”

So Siegel is acknowledging that there is no heart present at six weeks, and thus no heartbeat. He tries to contort his response into the Fox News narrative by talking about some future fetal development that hasn’t yet occurred. But the fact remains that Abrams was right and Siegel is reluctantly, but expressly, concurring with her.

That’s the sort of disreputable blather that Siegel has made a career on on Fox News. He was, after all, the guy Fox News turned to to interview Donald Trump about his infamous cognition exam where he claims to have correctly identified an elephant and recalled the five words “person, woman, man, camera, TV”

Siegel never bothered to interject that Trump’s assessment of that test was preposterous. He stood there and nodded blankly as Trump proclaimed that the test revealed his extraordinary mental prowess. It’s a moment in the media that exposed both Siegel and Trump as mentally deficient and brazenly dishonest.

Fox News is AGHAST that Hillary Clinton Accurately Compared Trump’s Rallies to Nazi Rallies

The similarities between the MAGA movement and the rise of fascism in 1930s Germany are too obvious to deny. Donald Trump has not been the least bit subtle about his aspirations to dictatorship. It’s what his denial of the 2020 presidential election results is all about.

Donald Trump Rally, Sieg Heil

Despite the clear parallels between Hitler’s Nazi regime and what Trump and his cult followers yearn for, Fox News continues to pretend that no such associations exist. They ignore Trump’s frequent expressions of admiration for, and envy of, murderous tyrants like Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Un, Xi Jinping, and Viktor Orbán.

According to Fox News, anyone who observes the resemblance of Trump’s MAGA cult to the Third Reich is delusional. And that recurring narrative by Fox was evident in their response to some recent comments by Hillary Clinton. At an event in Texas on Friday, Clinton connected the dictator dots, and it so disturbed Fox News that they broke into their live airing of “The Five” to berate her for it (video below). She said that…

“I remember as a young student, you know, trying to figure out, how did people get basically brought in by Hitler. How did that happen? And I’d watch newsreels and I’d see this guy standing up there ranting and raving, and people shouting and raising their arms. I thought, ‘What’s happened to these people? Why did they believe that?’

“You saw the rally in Ohio the other night, Trump up there ranting and raving for more than an hour, and you have these rows of young men with their arms raised. I thought, what is going on?”

Upon the return to the program’s panel, co-host Jesse Watters immediately dismissed reality saying “Did guys you see a Hitler salute at a Trump rally. I missed that.” Apparently Watters wasn’t paying very close attention. Or more likely, he was deliberately lying. Here is what he claims not to seen any sign of…

In addition to the criticism by the Trump-fluffers on “The Five,” Fox News published an article on their website that included a response by Trump’s spokesman, Taylor Budowich, who complained that Clinton was “using some of the most disgusting smears imaginable,” and was “pathetic” and “divisive.” Notably, he was unable to refute the accuracy of Clinton’s remarks. Perhaps because they described Trump and his glassy-eyed cult followers so accurately. Which is precisely what makes Fox News so appalled at her for having had the courage to speak out.
