Trump Threatened to ‘Blow Up the Company’ if Truth Social Execs Didn’t Give Their Shares to Melania

Two days after the January 6th insurrection that Donald Trump incited, Twitter permanently suspended his account “due to the risk of further incitement of violence.” That eventually led to the creation of the Trump-branded Twitter clone, Truth Social, where he could mouth off interminably and unconstrained by facts or decency.

Trump Baby on Cash Pile

Ever since, Truth Social has proven to be another pitiful failure in the Trump stable of ego-driven business ventures. That, however, didn’t stop him and his minions from pretending that it was not only a success, but an Earth shattering advance in the evolution of the human race. In reality, it was a fiasco on every level. It lost money, failed to attract users, betrayed its promise of free speech, stiffed its vendors, and is mired in multiple legal quagmires.

Adding to the unfolding apocalypse of Trump’s social media scam and its parent company, Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), is a new report revealing the expanding scope of Trump’s greed and corruption. One of TMTG’s executives, Will Wilkerson, has emerged as a whistleblower with allegations that he and other company principals were pressured by Trump to “give up some of his shares to Trump’s wife, Melania?” According to the Washington Post…

“Trump Media, the owner of the fledgling social network Truth Social, had just been boosted by a huge merger agreement and a flood of investment that had made the stake worth millions of dollars. Trump had already been given 90 percent of the company’s shares in exchange for the use of his name and some minor involvement, leaving everyone else to split the rest.

“[Company co-founder Andy] Litinsky tried to brush it off, telling Trump ‘the gift would have meant a huge tax bill he couldn’t pay,’ Wilkerson said in an interview. ‘Trump didn’t care. He said, ‘Do whatever you need to do.'”

The Post goes on to report that “Five months later, Litinsky, who first met Trump in 2004 as a contestant on the TV show “The Apprentice,” was abruptly removed from the company’s board.” Furthermore, Trump embellished his pressure campaign in an email wherein he threatened to “‘blow up the company’ if his demands are not met.” Now Wilkerson has filed a whistleblower complaint with the SEC “alleging that “the company’s bid to raise money … relied on ‘fraudulent misrepresentations … in violation of federal securities laws.'”

The Post’s article details at length the soap opera melodrama that went on at TMTG for months. That includes episodes where company founders were terminated and replaced by Don Trump Jr, and associates of Trump’s hand-picked CEO, former GOP congressman and ultra-right-wing Trump-fluffer, Devin Nunes, who had no experience whatsoever in the technology field.

With the company reportedly in violation of SEC regulations and other laws, and investors backing out, its offices were moved from a prestigious commercial building to a mail box at a UPS store. Shares of the shell company that was formed to take TMTG public, Digital World Acquisition Corp (DWAC) have crashed from a high of $175.00 to less than $18.00.

This is a story that would make a compelling fictional drama. But it’s facts are meticulously researched and well documented. It is also easy to believe considering the history of Trump’s unscrupulous business practices.

Like virtually everything else in Trump World, Truth Social and TMTG appear to be geared toward fattening Trump’s wallet through shady machinations. And like virtually everything else in Trump World, it’s failing miserably, and taking down everyone connected to it. But it’s hard to feel sorry for people who so willingly signed on to a sham operation by a known fraudster like Trump.

The GOP’s Not-So-Secret Plot to Sabotage the Economy if They Gain Control of Congress

With the 2022 midterm election now less than a month away, this may be a good time to ponder what the Republican Party would do should they manage to win a majority in the House, the Senate, or both. And in some respects they have been helpfully candid as to their plans should their aspirations come to pass.

It isn’t exactly a pretty picture. Among the more brazenly shameless admissions on the the part of leading Republicans have been Sen. Lindsey Graham’s promise to advance legislation to ban abortion nationwide, and Sen. Rick Scott’s agenda proposing to sunset Social Security and Medicare.

However, the most harrowing scenario cooked up by the power mad GOP is their plan to take the nation’s economy hostage by demanding that Democrats submit to their policy demands or else they will refuse to negotiate the debt ceiling. Those GOP proposals include cutting taxes for corporations and the wealthy, and slashing benefits for seniors and healthcare recipients.

To be clear, the debt ceiling defines the government’s limits on issuing credit in order to pay its bills. If it isn’t appropriately adjusted, the result would be the U.S. government falling into default. That would create an economic crisis in the U.S. and around the world. It is the equivalent of the “nuclear” option for the economy. And Republicans are threatening to drop that bomb if they don’t get their way.

This isn’t idle speculation. Leading Republicans in Congress have openly expressed their intentions to deploy this political weapon. Bloomberg News reports that “‘The debt limit is clearly one of those tools that Republicans — that a Republican-controlled Congress — will use… ‘ said Rep. Jason Smith (R-Mo.).” And that… “House Republicans are openly threatening to cause an economic catastrophe in order to realize their obsession with slashing Medicare and Social Security,” Henry Connelly, a Pelosi spokesman, said in a Tuesday statement to Bloomberg Government.”

It should come as no surprise that this economic terrorism is being ignited by the GOP cult messiah, Donald Trump. For months he has been chastising Republican Senate minority leader, Mitch McConnell, for not issuing debt ceiling threats to allow a default. As recently as last month Trump whined on his floundering social media scam, Truth Social, that…

“Mitch McConnell is giving the Democrats everything they want. He is their lapdog! He didn’t stop trillions of dollars in spending by refusing to use the Debt Ceiling as a negotiating tool. He gave it up for nothing. […] in order to destroy America.”

Republicans have already been acting to tank the economy. They have voted against several bills that would have eased inflation, and lowered the costs of gas and healthcare. The threat of that betrayal, and the devastating default that Republicans are embracing, has not been getting the media attention that such catastrophes merit. Virtually the only recent television coverage has been on MSNBC by Chris Hayes, who warned that…

“If the economy is the number one issue to voters, then there is one party that will have an incentive to make it better. And that party is the one that has the presidency. The Democrats.

“The other side, the Republicans, have an explicit incentive to make the economy worse. And I will tell you, having covered the Tea Party Congress of 2011, amidst the recovery from the financial crisis, i feel confident in predicting that if Republicans win control of one or both houses of Congress, they will do everything in their power to sabotage the economy to best set them up to retake the White House in 2024.”

And Hayes’ guest during this segment, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, concurred, saying that…

“The Republicans are loud and clear about this. They’ve already said, for example, that they will use the debt ceiling negotiations. […] There are already Republicans saying that if they can get control of the House or the Senate then they’re going to hold hostage things like Social Security and Medicare.”

Republicans are aiming a weapon of mass economic destruction at the United States and all of its citizens. And there is little being done about it by the media, whose job it is to keep people informed of threats such as this. What the GOP is plotting would produce more harm than the recent hurricane in Florida. But there aren’t any hourly updates about the path of this disaster. That needs to change – and fast!

Trump’s 14 Page Response to Being Subpoenaed By the January 6th Committee is Laughably Pathetic

As the January 6th Committee investigating the insurrection at the Capitol winds to a close, they took a step to complete the record of evidence by issuing a subpoena for the last, and most conspicuously guilty, witness that has yet to testify. That, of course, is Donald Trump, who incited the deadly riots and for three hours did nothing to stop them.

On Friday morning Trump posted his interminably drawn out fourteen page response (pdf) to the Committee’s subpoena in a long and utterly substanceless screed that was signed by him alone (i.e. no attorneys). It was essentially a ponderous elaboration on his knee-jerk hissy fit on Thursday.

The protracted version of Trump’s psychosis was predictably incoherent and devoid of any relevant facts. It just another obvious deflection from the subject of the hearings and as tedious rehashing of his baseless reasons to assume that voter fraud took place. The tirade began with Trump wallowing in his victimhood and lashing out at his perceived persecutors:

“The same group of Radical Left Democrats who utilized their Majority position in Congress to create the fiction of Russia, Russia, Russia, Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax #2, the $48 Million Mueller Report (which ended in No Collusion!), Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine, the atrocious and illegal Spying on my Campaign, and so much more, are the people who created this Committee of highly partisan political Hacks and Thugs whose sole function is to destroy the lives of many hard-working American Patriots, whose records in life have been unblemished until this point of attempted ruination.”

It’s nice of Trump to itemize all of the illegal and unethical activities he has engaged in over the years. Never mind his perpetually hollow denials of any culpability. He went on to whine that…

“This memo is being written to express our anger, disappointment, and complaint that with all of the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on what many consider to be a Charade and Witch Hunt, and despite strong and powerful requests, you have not spent even a short moment on examining the massive Election Fraud that took place during the 2020 Presidential Election, and have targeted only those who were, as concerned American Citizens, protesting the Fraud itself. Those who committed the Fraud, thereby having created the Crime of the Century, go unblemished and untouched, but those who fought the Crime have suffered a fate that was unthinkable just a short time ago. We have a two-tier system of Justice in the United States that cannot be allowed to continue.”

Here Trump is appalled that the Committee is responsibly adhering to the topics that it was established to investigate. He is dismayed that they aren’t veering off into the fantasy world of imagined offenses against Trump. He is outraged that the Committee isn’t humoring him about election fraud that didn’t take place, and for which he and his minions have failed to provide evidence for nearly two years. And he is projecting his own fears unto his cult followers, attempting to make them believe that they are victims.

The ridiculous document goes on to complain that he got “millions more votes in 2020 than I did in 2016.” Someone needs to tell Trump that the objective in an election is to get more votes than your opponent, not more than yourself four years earlier. Similarly irrelevant is his observation that “almost the entire Republican Party feel that the Election was Rigged and Stolen.” That’s merely more evidence that the GOP is pitifully delusional and indoctrinated into the Cult of Trump.

Trump repeats his totally false assertion that he “recommended and authorized thousands of troops to be deployed to ensure that there was peace, safety, and security at the Capitol.” No, actually, he didn’t. But it’s interesting to note that this lie suggests he thought that the Capitol needed protection from his own supporters. PolitiFact’s detailed analysis documented that there is no record of Trump authorizing troops, no evidence that Pelosi denied such an authorization, and that she doesn’t have the authority to do so in the first place.

Trump also lied that the Committee hearings had “very poor television ratings.” To the contrary, the hearings from the very start broke viewing records. With over 18 million viewers, they had a larger audience that the Game two of the NBA Finals.

In closing, Trump said something that was actually true. He noted that “The people of this Country will not stand for unequal justice under the law.” Indeed, the majority of Americans want to see Trump indicted and prosecuted. And finally, nine of the fourteen pages of his response were devoted to an appendix that was entirely composed of flagrantly false allegations of election fraud – all of which were debunked many times, long ago – and nonsense such as references to Hunter Biden’s laptop.

The Committee’s chairman, Bennie Thompson, summed up the hearings saying that…

“[Trump] tried to take away the voice of the American people in choosing their president and replace the will of the voters with his will to remain in power. […] He is required to answer for his actions. He is required to answer to those police officers who put their lives and bodies on the line to defend our democracy. He is required to answer to those millions of Americans who’s votes he wanted to throw out as part of his scheme to remain in power.”

As for Trump, his lengthy reply failed to state whether he would comply with the subpoena. If the past is any indication, he will try to delay any testimony by challenging the subpoena in court. Failing that, he will try to run out the clock and hope that Republicans gain control of the House and disband the Committee. But even if he were to appear, he would almost certainly refuse to answer questions by pleading the 5th Amendment, as he did more than 400 times when deposed by the New York Attorney General.

According to New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, Trump told aides “that he’s not opposed to the idea of testifying before the committee, as long as it’s on his terms.” By which he specified that the testimony be aired live. That’s been done with many other witnesses, so the Committee would surely agree to it for Trump. And since it would likely result in Trump embarrassing and/or incriminating himself even further, all that would be missing is the popcorn.

Trump Lashes Out Impotently After January 6th Committee Votes to Subpoena Him

The January 6th Committee investigating the violent insurrection in Washington, D.C. that Donald Trump incited, held what is likely their last hearing before publishing their findings. Much of the hearing consisted of summations tying together the evidence that Trump knew about the violence taking place at the Capitol and not only approved of it, but deliberately inflamed it.

After doing nothing but watching the deadly riots on television at the White House for three hours, Trump eventually released a statement telling the rioters that he understood their anger and that he loved them. Further testimony found that he wanted to join them in their coup attempt, and that he knew that many of them came armed and prepared for battle.

The success of the bipartisan hearings in the the House drove Trump to attack them frequently, and even to threaten to sue them.

The most noteworthy news coming out of this hearing was that the committee voted to subpoena Trump to testify. There have already been hundreds of witnesses, most of them Republicans and veterans of the Trump administration. And the case against Trump is regarded by legal experts as overwhelming and airtight.

The last piece of the probe’s puzzle would be Trump’s perspective. Not that it’s necessary at this point given the volume of testimony and documentary evidence already compiled. But if nothing else, it would give Trump an opportunity to make his own case. So naturally Trump blew up and posted an incoherent response on his fatally floundering social media scam, Truth social. Trump whined…

“Why didn’t the Unselect Committee ask me to testify months ago? Why did they wait until the very end, the final moments of their last meeting? Because the Committee is a total “BUST” that has only served to further divide our Country which, by the way, is doing very badly – A laughing stock all over the World?”

Trump is exhibiting his notorious ignorance of legal matters in this comment. The principle targets of any investigation are always interviewed at the end so that their version of events can be compared to those of other witnesses. What’s more, Trump was actually invited to testify voluntarily, and told that he was welcome to come before the Committee at any time and at his convenience. He repeatedly declined and castigated the Committee with childish insults, including his pathetic nickname, the “Unselect” committee.

Trump is unlikely to comply with this subpoena without engaging in a drawn out and futile legal battle to quash it. That’s his modus operandi to pursue perpetual delays. To date his efforts to avoid subpoenas in other cases have all failed. So when he was ultimately forced to comply, as with the New York Attorney General, he showed up and pleaded the Fifth Amendment more than 400 hundred times.

Clearly Trump doesn’t believe that “the Committee is a total ‘BUST’.” If he did he would jump at the chance to appear with his allegedly irrefutable evidence of election fraud, and embarrass the Committee with his brilliantly constructed defense.

To the contrary, Cadet Bone Spurs is demonstrating again that he is a pitiful coward who is too scared to take a stand on his own behalf. Unlike his nemesis, Hillary Clinton, who testified before a Republican congressional committee for eleven hours, answering every question, and not complaining once about being persecuted, or calling her interrogators infantile names.

Trump’s comment closed with the accusation that the Committee is trying to “divide our Country” and has made it “A laughing stock all over the world.” As usual, he is projecting. Because that’s exactly what Trump himself has done. And now that he is being offered yet another chance to state his case, he will surely continue to refuse in favor of inducing more division and laughter at his own expense.

UPDATE: Trump posted a couple of additional similarly feeble comments. One asked “Why didn’t Crazy Nancy Pelosi call out the ‘troops’ before January 6th, which I strongly recommended that she do.” Of course, there is no evidence that he ever made such a recommendation, and Pelosi doesn’t have jurisdiction over that anyway.

The other comment said that the “Committee knowingly failed to examine the massive voter fraud which took place during the 2020 Presidential Election.” However, there isn’t a shred of evidence of any voter fraud. And if Trump were really interested in presenting some, he could do it in front of millions of Americans watching him testify before the Committee, which he’s too scared to do because he knows he’s got nothing to say.

UPDATE II: Trump also posted that “I will be putting out my response to the Unselect Committee of political Hacks & Thugs tomorrow morning at 8:00. Thank you!” That should be fun.

Tucker Carlson Maligns Women and People with Disabilities in the Most Cringeworthy Clip of 2022

From its inception, the mission of Fox News has been to advance the interests of wealthy white men. And that mission was tightly aligned with the goals of the Republican Party for which they served as their official Ministry of Propaganda. That relationship grew stronger over the years, and culminated with the invention and promotion of Donald Trump and his crusade against democracy.

Tucker Carlson Fox News

Leading the parade of anti-American hate and fear mongering at Fox News is their Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson. Every night Carlson manages to dig ever deeper into lunatic conspiracy theories and divisive rhetoric intended to foment discord and violence. And always present in his screeds is an overt contempt for all things liberal in general, and for people of color and women in particular.

On Wednesday night’s episode of his hate-fest, Carlson devoted much of the program to disparaging women and people with disabilities. Because it’s a hallmark of Republicans to punch down at those who are already suffering hardships. He began with a cringeworthy tirade against two inspirational young women – climate change activist Greta Thunberg, and National Youth Poet Laureate, Amanda Gorman, saying that…

“We’re supposed to accommodate Greta Thunberg’s disability, pretend her words are profound. Just like the fake poet at Biden’s administration. [Sarcastically] Oh, she was so great. We dare you to say she wasn’t. She was ridiculous.”

First of all, what is up with that demonic cackle that he so frequently unleashes? Does Carlson really think that sane people relate to his screeching and fake attempt at emulating human laughter?

More to the point, Carlson is typically casting repulsive insults at two accomplished and gifted women. In Thunberg’s case he is attacking her for daring to be an articulate and effective advocate for the planet, despite having Asperger’s. She has spoken eloquently around the world, including at the United Nations.

However, Carlson was satisfied making asinine comments about Thunberg, so he dragged Gorman into his hate speech. Gorman’s offense, in Carlson’s eyes, is merely that she is Black.

Still not content with his outpouring of malice, Carlson went on to malign Vice-President Kamala Harris as “the dimmest person,” and President Biden as “demented” and “deranged.” Then he set off to spew scorn on Pennsylvania Senate candidate, John Fetterman, who is recovering from a stroke. Carlson outright lied about Fetterman using a computer to provide closed captioning during an interview because he is still having some minor auditory processing issues. According To Carlson…

“The guy’s reading his answers off a screen with a reporter three feet away.”

Carlson knows damn well that Fetterman was only using the computer to assure that he was hearing the questions correctly. There were no answers on the screen, which was shown during the interview. But that didn’t stop Carlson from lying about it. It’s just the latest dishonest attack on Fetterman by Fox News where they are afraid that Fetterman will defeat the Republican snake oil salesman and dog killer, Dr. Mehmet Oz.

Fetterman’s disability is temporary and he is expected to fully recover. But taking Carlson at his word, he is saying that a deaf person would be unfit to serve in Congress. That’s consistent with the right-wing view that people with disabilities, people of color, women, and anyone who isn’t rich, white, and male, is automatically disqualified. That’s the goal of the Republican Party and its mouthpieces at Fox News. And Carlson just keeps proving it in the most explicit terms.

Desperate and Dishonest Fox News Hack Says Fetterman ‘Is For Castrating Kindergartners’

With the majority control of Congress at stake, Democrats and Republicans are shaping their closing arguments for the midterm election. That means that Democrats are focusing their campaigns on critical issues like abortion, healthcare, the economy, and preserving democracy, while Republicans are doubling down on personal insults, fear mongering, and blatant lies.

The GOP’s Ministry of Propaganda (aka Fox News) is playing its part in this melodrama. Their entire schedule is jampacked with ultra-partisan rhetoric in support of Republican candidates, and flagrantly false assaults on Democrats. The network is a non-stop dispensary of despicable diatribes that go way beyond traditional political banter, into the realm of purposeful and perverse cruelty as they aspire to foment fear.

High on the list of disinformation propagation is Jesse Watters, co-host of Fox’s “The Five.” On Tuesday’s episode Watters sought to prop up the failing GOP candidate for Senate in Pennsylvania, Dr. Mehmet Oz. Naturally, his spiel leaned more heavily on attacking Democrat John Fetterman than on praising Oz. That’s probably because even Fox News flacks can’t find much good to say about Oz, a phony from New Jersey who pitches fake medicine and kills dogs. Watters raged that…

“Oz was down nine points a month ago and now he’s cut the lead in half and is just down four. And if Dr. Oz doesn’t beat Fetterman he won’t be able to show his face around town, because Fetterman is pathetic. This is guy who mooched off his parents until he was fifty; dresses worse than a wrestling coach; can’t talk because he just had a stroke. And his policies are even worse than his appearance. He wants to ban oil and gas, release 2nd degree murderers from prison, and he is for castrating kindergartners. Plus, he’s a liar.

The first item of note in that oratorical mess is that Watters is boasting that Oz is still losing despite having spent millions of dollars on his campaign. It’s also notable that Watters is warning Oz not to “show his face around town” if he does lose. Which shouldn’t be a problem because he’ll most likely be back at his mansion in Jersey.

Watters then rattles off some personal insults about Fetterman’s appearance, along with some lies about his policies. This coming from a sleazeball who had an affair with a much younger Fox News underling, then left his wife and children to marry her. And he caps it off with the zinger that Fetterman “is for castrating kindergartners.”

You have to be pretty deep in the woods of desperation to invent bizarre and depraved put downs like that, that have no basis whatsoever in reality. But that’s where the Republican Party is today. The are taking their cues from Donald Trump, an emotionally stunted basket case who can’t communicate above the level of a slow five year old.

It must be awfully painful to Watters (and Trump and Fox News) that Oz is still losing to someone that they are maligning as cognitively challenged due to a stroke. Just as it was devastating to Trump et al when he lost to President Biden, whose mental health they similarly lied about. But for some reason they have no problem with abortion financier, Herschel Walker. In fact, they regard his suffering multiple concussions as an asset. It’s just too bad that these washouts won’t keep their promises to go away after they lose.

Alex Jones Joins Trump and Fox News in Exalting Putin for Becoming More … Christian?

It takes real chutzpah for Alex Jones to continue to present himself to the public after having been ordered to pay nearly $50 million to some of the families of the children murdered in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre that he said never happened. He accused the families – even the children – of lying and faking the whole thing. Another trial is currently in progress on behalf of more victims’ families.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Alex Jones

Undaunted by anything resembling decency, Jones went on Steve Bannon’s podcast to resume spinning his fear and hate mongering conspiracy theories. During this episode Jones aligned himself with Donald Trump’s twisted Republican Party and his Ministry of Disinformation, Fox News. Their embrace of the barbaric dictator, Vladimir Putin, is one of the most reprehensible political confederations since the Nazi-supporting “America First” contingent in the 1930s.

Jones was appalled that Democrats have a negative opinion of such a virtuous sweetheart like Putin. He couldn’t seem to grasp why anyone would dislike the man who is currently slaughtering hundreds of innocent Ukrainian civilians in an egomaniacal attempt to illegally annex portions of that country. Jones ranted…

“Do you leftists really want to destroy the world in a nuclear fire because you have a fetish for hating Russians and Putin because they’ve become a little bit more Christian? Again, they don’t hate Russia because they’re the former Soviet Union. The Left hates Russia because they’re becoming more like the American Midwest. They’re becoming more conservative. They’re against transgenderism and teaching five year olds about sex and all the rest of this. So that’s why Hollywood and the Rob Reiners of the world literally have a fetish for destroying Russia.”

There’s a lot of putrid crackpottery to unpack there. Let’s begin with Jones’ preposterous assertion that it’s leftists who are threatening nuclear war. That was Putin’s idea. Apparently Jones thinks that Democrats are at fault because they aren’t cowering under Putin’s threat, as Jones would prefer America to do.

Jones then lauds the piety of Putin. He regards Trump’s pal Vladimir as a saintly figure who exemplifies the American ideal of Christianity. Never mind that he just happens to be engaging in heinous war crimes by murdering men, women, and children, because Ukraine won’t surrender their sovereignty to his tyrannical imperialism.

Like Trump and Fox News, Jones Favors Putin over American patriots who believe in freedom and democracy. The right’s perverse interpretation of Christianity veers off more toward totalitarianism and religious oppression and cult worship.

Yet that’s the dominant viewpoint of faith among the right-wing in America today. They have utterly abandoned the principles of both Christianity and the Constitution. And they aren’t the least bit shy about expressing these depraved ideas, or foisting their deranged doctrine on everyone else.

Crybaby Trump Bares His Ultra-Thin Skin in Tantrum Against Late Night Comedy Shows

Poor Donald Trump has suffered long from the trials and tribulations of being a malignant narcissist. His inability to cope with trifling jokes at his rather modest expense has been one of his most pronounced personality disorders. By some estimations, it is the reason he chose to enter politics, following jabs by Seth Meyers at the White House Correspondents Dinner (WHCD) (Video below).

Stephen Colbert & Trump Baby

During Trump’s occupation of the white House, he refused to attend the charity dinner all four years. That’s because he’s too big a baby to sit through a program where he might be the butt of a few jokes. Which is funny because he doesn’t seem otherwise opposed to being or having a big butt. Last year, for the first time in six years (it was postponed twice due to COVID), the dinner was attended by the President of the United States, Joe Biden. Trevor Noah was the featured comedian, and he didn’t shy away from Trump jokes.

On Monday morning, Trump took time away from his brooding and whining about having lost the 2020 election to complain again about the state of comedy in America. In a post on his floundering social media scam, Truth Social, Trump linked to an article on Fox News that roasted late night comedy as a declining format, which Fox blamed on the hosts mocking Trump. He wrote that…

“It was my great honor to have destroyed the ratings of Late Night “Comedy” shows. There is nothing funny about the shows, the three hosts have very little talent, and when Jimmy Fallon apologized for having humanized “Trump,” and his ratings soared, the Radical Left forced him to apologize—that was effectively the end of The Tonight Show. In any event, congratulations to Greg Gutfield!”

Once again, Trump is attempting to take credit for something that he had nothing to do with. He’s also assuming incorrectly that anyone regards his analysis of comedy as having any merit or insight. What’s more, the article he links to is profoundly lacking in any grasp of the TV business or program performance.

In order to make their argument work, Fox compared the current ratings of the late night shows hosted by Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, and Jimmy Kimmel, to their ratings – not last year – but six years ago, before Trump took office. That’s a long time in TV land. Fox completely ignored the fact that the television landscape had changed significantly during that time frame, with the advent of streaming and other methods of time-shifting. That’s what had the biggest impact on ratings. And it was an impact that occurred across every part of the TV schedule.

The article asserts instead that the ratings decline was due to the abundance of Trump jokes. However, it contradicts its own premise by noting that Colbert and Kimmel substantially increased their ratings when they told more jokes about Trump. Fallon, on the other hand, lost viewers with his less political style.

The Fox News article also took this opportunity to promote their own show with right-wing pseudo-comic, Greg Gutfeld. But it is deliberately dishonest to compare his ratings to the network late night shows. Those shows are shown at 11:30pm local time (tape delayed) across the country. Fox News airs Gutfeld at 11:00pm Eastern time nationwide. That means that Gutfeld is on at 8:00pm in Pacific time, 9:00pm Central, etc. Therefore, most of the nation sees Gutfeld in prime time when there are more people watching television. So when the article brags that Gutfeld’s 2.2 million viewers edged out Colbert’s 2.1 million, it’s missing the fact that Colbert actually drew a much higher percentage of the available audience.

Throughout the article Fox accuses the late night hosts of delivering Democratic talking points. But they never offer a single example to support that charge. If Fox has a problem with the leftward slant of the humor by these hosts, then their real problem is that, as Colbert once noted (at the WHCD in 2006), “Reality has a well known liberal bias.”

The article also ignores its own brazenly partisan perspective. The only quotes the author bothered to include were exclusively from washed up conservative “comedians” (Jimmy Failla, Tim Young, Joe Piscopo, Rob Schneider). There was no effort to get any statements from the shows that the author was maligning, their hosts, or their networks.

That won’t surprise anyone who is familiar with the purposeful dishonesty of Fox News. And it’s affirmation of the popular meme that has circulate for many years that says “I get my news from Comedy Central and my comedy from Fox News.”

Trump’s Fear Mongering Lies About ‘Streets Drenched in Blood’ Reach New Depths of Depravity

The desperation of Donald Trump and his warped revision of the Republican Party becomes more evident with each passing day. The upcoming midterm elections, which were once predicted to be highly favorable to the GOP, now appear to be trending more to the Democrats than anyone thought possible.

Consequently, Trump is stepping up his cult rally schedule, as well as his rancid rhetoric. While crime has been an issue that Republicans have long sought to exploit, Trump’s take on it diverts farther from reality than any prior rendering. In Trump World America is a vortex of perpetual violence that threatens every man, woman, and child, twenty-fours a day. No, really. He told his Deplorables at his latest traveling salvation show that…

“If we are going to make America great again, we have to make America safe again. It’s the only way. You can’t walk down a street in a Democrat-run city without being shot or mugged or knifed. Under Steve Sisolak, your crime-loving governor, and the radical left Democrats, the streets of our once great cities are drenched in the blood of innocent victims. That’s what’s happening in all of these Democrat-run cities. And I would say just about all of them.”

First of all, nearly all large cities in the U.S. are “Democrat-run” cities. That’s because most people appreciate honesty and intelligence, and policies that benefit working people that grow the economy from the middle, out. So Trump is saying, in effect, that the majority of the American people can’t walk down a street without being slaughtered by a homicidal maniac. Which is, of course, preposterous. But it serves Trump’s purpose to frighten people into holing up in their basements and shooting at anything that moves outside.

What’s more, Trump accuses Democrats of being “crime-loving” civic leaders. Which is ironic coming from someone who is currently being investigated for multiple federal, state, and civil crimes- far more than any other president or high-ranking public official.

More to the point, Trump is, as usual, wrong. Studies show that crime is actually higher per capita in Republican areas. One such study by the centrist Third Way organization found that…

“Murder rates are actually higher in Republican, Trump-voting states that haven’t even flirted with ideas like defund the police. Eight of the ten most lawless, high-murder states are not only Trump-voting states, but GOP bastions for the last quarter of a century. A more accurate conclusion from the data is that Republicans do a far better job blaming others for high murder rates than actually reducing high murder rates.”

Furthermore, the study found that even cities run by Republicans often had worse crime rates than comparable cities run by Democrats. In one amusing example they found that…

“Jacksonville, a city with a Republican mayor, had 128 more murders in 2020 than San Francisco, a city with a Democrat mayor, despite their comparable populations. In fact, the homicide rate in Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco was half that of House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy’s Bakersfield, a city with a Republican mayor that overwhelmingly voted for Trump.”

Don’t expect to hear Trump or any other republican acknowledge these facts. And don’t expect to see any of them on Fox News. Because Trump and the GOP, and the propagandists at Fox, are too fixated on spreading lies intended to scare the bejeebers out of everyone within earshot. It’s the only thing they have left since fully adopting the lunacy of QAnon and abandoning the real world that the rest of us inhabit.

James Carville Whales on CNN’s GOP Pundit and Republicans Who Worship Putin

One of the most bizarre perversions of rational policy making in the era of Donald Trump has been the embrace by Trump, and his tainted Republican Party, of Russia and its murderous dictator, Vladimir Putin. From the outset of Trump’s occupation of the White House he was taking Putin’s side against the U.S.

The reasons for Trump’s reverence of Putin likely include his feelings of indebtedness for Putin’s helping him to win the 2016 election, and his craving for the sort of financial rewards that Putin could lavish upon him during and after his term in office.

That’s what accounts for Trump telling the world that he believed Putin over his own American intelligence agencies about Russian interference in U.S. elections. It would also account for Trump serving Russia’s geopolitical interests by attacking and weakening NATO, scrapping the Iran nuclear pact, and supporting Brexit and the dissolution of the E.U. And then there is also Trump’s constant praise for Putin as a “strong leader” and a “genius,” while he maligned the U.S. and President Biden.

On Saturday one of CNN’s Republican pundits, Scott Jennings, was asked about the recent announcement by OPEC that they intended to cut oil production in order to increase the price. Jennings responded by predictably blaming it on Biden and, just like Trump, accusing him of being weak. Whereupon, CNN’s liberal analyst James Carville laid into him with some logic and actual facts…

“You know who doesn’t think Biden is weak? Vladimir Putin. The Republican hero of the United States. The man that the Republican Party worships is getting the crap kicked out of him right now with U.S. Support and a Joe Biden-led coalition. If they want to love the Saudis that’s their business. The United States is making a successful stand in what, in my opinion, is the most successful foreign policy initiative since World War II.”

Indeed, Ukraine is executing a successful defense against the invasion by Russia. They have repelled Russian forces and they are retaking regions that Russia had occupied. And the military assistance from the U.S. and other allies has been critical to that success. That assistance has been opposed by Trump and many Republicans who criticize Biden for providing it. Biden’s critics must be even more troubled because it is working so well.

In the meantime, Trump is still siding with Putin and making preposterous claims that Russia would never have invaded Ukraine if he were still president. Although, that could be seen as true if you acknowledge that Russia wouldn’t have needed to invade because Trump would have handed Putin everything he wanted to annex the entire country.

Even worse, Trump is now claiming that the U.S. is responsible for the Russian invasion of Ukraine. His “Blame America First” theory is that the U.S. “taunted” Putin into invading:

The fact that Republicans have adopted Trump’s pro-Russia positions and his traitorous affinity for Putin tells us that the GOP is now a party wallowing in the cultism of Trump. They can no longer be depended on to pursue the interests of the U.S. And the cult disciples that are following Trump and his disfigured GOP (Grovelers Over Putin) are likewise lost to Trump’s anti-democratic aspirations for a Putin-style dictatorship.

This makes the upcoming midterm election more important than any in decades. So be sure to vote, and to get as many democracy-loving patriots as you can to vote with you. Because if Republicans manage to eke out a victory, it may be the last time you get to vote in free election.
